Talentime by Yasmin Ahmad

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 07:39 AM PDT

To those who have not watched Talentime, I urge all of you to grab a movie ticket in GSC Mid Valley/ Gurney this week to catch its limted rescreening.

Talentime

As I watched this endearing movie directed by Yasmin Ahmad, it stirred in me an emotion I cannot help but express in tears, both painful and yet freeing.

A movie filled with slices of Malaysian life and reflecting similiar afflictions that one in a multi-racial community may endure. I walked out of the cinema not just with puffy eyes, but with my heart tugged as well.

One of the boys performed this beautiful song 'I Go' written by Pete Teo, that carried simple and honest words in the lyrics.

I go by Pete Teo

So long, fare thee well
The dancer and the dancing days have taken leave and fell
So turn down this bed of stone
Quench me with the deadly nightshade from the rose that you belong

The long December rain is falling now
Running down on streets to nowhere
Music is my life youre my sweetest nightingale
But I cant hear it here no more
And I go
I go

Hush now, dont shake or break
Words have fallen silent like soldiers to the grave
No matter what they do or say
Lay me on the sleepy meadow by the tracks upon your face

If you have yet to catch any of the late Yasmin's work, do not miss out on this chance to savour one of her last magnificent brainchild.

najib altantuya: BN man ready to face accusations

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 08:42 AM PDT

UPDATED 10.30PM Barisan Nasional candidate for the Permatang Pasir by-election Rohaizat Othman is ready to face any attacks and allegations from the opposition parties.MORE

According to Malaysiakini, there was an allegation that Rohaizat was blacklisted by Malaysian Bar Council's.

In response, Rohaizat said that he was a lawyer but he had not been practicing since two years ago.

In the meantime, Ahmad Zahid, Umno vice-president, explained that Rohaizat's licence was revoked by the Bar Council due to problems incurred by the former partner in the legal firm. He also said that legally, Rohaizat was probably innocent, but morally, it could be questioned by his opponents
Hmm...so another question mark here? Rohaizat is probably innocent, not 100% clean? Aiyoyo...

MCA claims no record of Tiong's RM10m donation

By Neville Spykerman

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — MCA officials pledged their support behind embattled party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and claimed records show no donations received from Barisan Nasional (BN) backbenchers chief Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing last year.

Tiong, who is also CEO of Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) turnkey contractor Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB), had claimed this week that he had made a RM10 million donation to MCA through Ong.

His company also disclosed how Ong, the transport minister, had taken at least four flights on its private jets without paying for it.

Ong, who has built up an image of being clean and transparent, was forced to deny the allegations and called a special closed-door briefing for divisional leaders here today in an attempt to explain himself.

But his reputation is now in tatters following the allegations.

His position as party president is shaky with supporters of deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who was absent from today's gathering, expected to push ahead with plans to call for an extraordinary general meeting to remove him.

Yesterday, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers are believed to have questioned Tiong over the allegations.

Even if Ong is able to explain the RM10 million "donation" he will still find it hard to explain the free flights he took on KDSB jets, which are not allowed under the government's General Orders.

MCA treasurer Tan Sri Tee Hock Seng told reporters today the party had not received any donations from Tiong since he became treasurer last year.

"I have not checked previous records but since taking over there have been no donations from Tiong," he said, adding he was not sure if donations were received in the past.

He said the MACC had not yet contacted the party over the matter.

Tee, who is also the party's Federal Territory chairman, said party leaders were fully behind Ong and his decisions on PKFZ.

He said Tiong's allegations had tarnished the image of the party and its president.

They also supported a move for a police report to be lodged while calling on Tiong to explain and apologise within seven days or face legal action for defamation.

The embattled MCA president refused to take questions from the press after briefing the divisional leaders.

Instead, Ong said he would leave it to his members to tell the press if they were satisfied with his explanation during the closed-door meeting.

"The meeting was very interactive and there were a lot of sharp questions from members," he said.

The allegations were made after a special task force investigating the PKFZ found that KDSB, the turnkey contractor for the project, had made questionable claims of at least RM500 million. A police report was lodged last week.

Today, MCA secretary -general Datuk Wong Foon Meng claimed the grassroots were fully behind the party president and called on Tiong to prove his allegations.

"The burden is on Tiong to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt."

On the flip side, Wong said the party's constitution allows for donations to be collected.

It however does not specify the mode of how donations should be collected, he said.

So good hor. Chinese fight with Chinese. Why talk of fighting for the Chinese, when you MCA fellows fight with each other. Try to make up lah, Ong and Tiong. Chinese don't fight with Chinese ok. Same race. Don't kill each other! WUAHAHAHA

Anyway, she was on segment 2 and segment 1 was about the Mens Health magazine. They ran this Define & Refine campaign which put some men thru some physical and other trainings to make them "better man".

Anyway, when we went into the Quickie studio, it was pretty cold as the spotlights were not turned on. Those are heat machines that will warm up the place after a few tens of minutes.

I was nice when cold... alot more chilled.

This is how it is when the ligts come on.

There was a call during the Mens Health segment. This Chinese guy called and he went

"Hello"

Quickie host: "Hello, whats your name, and whr are you calling from"

"Err... my my name ahhh... the the lock, calling from Klang"

Quickie host: "Ah THE ROCKKKK... from Klang, now do you have any questions for the guest?"

Quickie host: "Ah.. you claim to be THE ROCK, and you want advise to be a stronger man huh?"

"Ahhh... yaaaa"

Wacana Semula Pemikiran Syed Naqiub Al- Attas

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 07:25 AM PDT

23hb JULAI: Powerful Ideas: Perspectives on the Good Society yang diterbitkan di Melbourne oleh The Cranlana Programme menghimpunkan pemikiran dan sumbangan 45 pemikir besar sepanjang catatan sejarah manusia dan Syed Naqiub Al- Attas adalah satu – satunya Muslim antara nama Plato sehingga John Rawls. Apa yang istimewanya dengan pengasas Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) ini sehingga diberi penghormatan demikian rupa? Syed Naquib Al Attas

Maka Barat kehilangan sisi spiritualnya.

Era Najib Altantuya : Apa Hak SPRM Guna Kekerasan?

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 06:23 AM PDT

Era Najib Altantuya : Wanita MCA Turut Terima Duit - Tiong

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 05:51 AM PDT

najib altantuya MACC man fed up with politicians

MACC man fed up with politicians

Accusations of bias, negative public perception and the immense pressure on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has got the better of its investigations chief, Datuk Shukri Abdull. An exasperated Shukri threw a bombshell yesterday: the MACC will stop investigating politicians, indefinitely.

Shukri, who is also one of the graft-fighting body's commissioners, said he and his men felt they could not carry out their duties effectively in cases involving politicians as they were being slammed no matter what they did.

He also said:
"We have been giving it our all, working seven days a week, even during Hari Raya, but the manipulations have affected us so badly that my officers and I just cannot go on like this."
(Source: New Straits Times)

Ya lah, we know MACC work hard 24/7, its building always abuzz with activities. Why and how then, someone DIED when MACC was so ALIVE with committted officials who even sometimes slept with witnesses?

Therefore, regardless if Teoh Beng Hock's death is more of suicide or homicide, MACC must be held responsible.

Era Najib Altantuya : Muhyiddin Dulang Paku Serpih

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 04:39 AM PDT

Kita tanya Lawyer khairuddin RM berapa hilang????

Kita Tanya Jahara Radzi projek perumahan Malwira Taman Guar Perahu yang memang tak siap-siap .bukan kerana dihilangkan projek tetapi duit sampai tak masuk akaun-Berapa Hilang????

AH1N1 - 56 death cases in Malaysia (Aug 14th 2009 - 8am)

Posted: 14 Aug 2009 09:10 AM PDT

The figure 56 has triggered me to think what has gone wrong in Malaysia. The reported cases has raised  over 20% which most of the country still maintain @ 10% ++ .... what i meant is the cases of H1N1 infected against the death cases... Is the citizen of Malaysia ignore on how serious is AH1N1? Or Malaysian lack of the knowledge to prevent the outbreak of AH1N1? I don't think the Malaysian were lack of the knowledge... So, what is the root cause?... What do you think?

I was a bit upset to see the death toll getting more and more... moreover, i did not see the government doing a drastic action to stop the outbreak... they still go with their own sweet pace... hey... please get some good solution to stop the death toll raising... Learnt from how Hong Kong and Singapore...

I did see some people start using the masks to cover their own... But still see someone who was sick roaming around the city... Is this a right way to do? For those who not feeling well... please DO NOT go out... stay @ home and got yourself quarantine...

Lots of question asking whether school need to be closed... What do you think?

Era Najib Altantuya : Pengajaran Utk Muhyiddin

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 04:43 AM PDT

najib altantuya: Fingerprints on MACC death note 'unclear' - nizar teoh beng hock

Posted: 15 Aug 2009 04:49 PM PDT

Four of the six fingerprints found on the note sent to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s chief commissioner Ahmad Said Hamdan did not match the fingerprints records with the authorities.

Selangor chief police officer Khalid Abu Bakar said forensic examinaton on the envelope sent to Ahmad Said showed no new evidence.

"Four of the prints were not clear enough while two others were still under analysis," he told reporters after an anti-drugs programme at Seri Kembangan today.

On July 24, Ahmad Said received a letter threatening death in revenge for the death of Selangor political aide, Teoh Beng Hock, after he was questioned by the MACC.

The letter was received through the post by the Selangor MACC office at Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam.

Wong probed for obstruction

On the refusal of Wong Chuan How, 50, aide to Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu, to cooperate with the MACC, Khalid said police have reports from both the MACC and Wong.

"The case is being investigated under Section 188 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public official from discharging his duty and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for verbally abusing a public official," he said.

Wong is being investigated by the MACC in relation to allegations of abuse of state allocations involving 234 projects worth almost RM500,000.

Pi Bani pi Bali - Part 1

Posted: 16 Aug 2009 03:23 AM PDT

Waiting for the Ipoh-LCCT shuttle bus, with our luggage... the bulk being our Buddy Bears.

As early as 2.30 am on Saturday, 8th August 2009, 7 of us were already at the at the Ipoh-LCCT bus station in Ipoh. Originally 9 of us were supposed to be going for ICAAP (International Congress on Aids in Asia and the Pacific) in Bali, but one had to back out at the very last minute as her husband was unwell. Another volunteer didn't have to take the Ipoh-LCCT shuttle bus as she was already in KL and promised to meet up with the rest of us at LCCT.

We reached LCCT at about 6.30 am. The counter for our check-in was not open yet and so we decided to have breakfast first. It was while we were having our breakfast that our other colleague came and joined us for breakfast.

Anyway, things ran smoothly, flight was on time and reached Bali on time. Upon our arrival, even before immigration clearance, there were already people there holding ICAAP placards so that the delegates would know where to go and whom to approach. Although there was quite a queue for immigration clearance (they only opened one counter for that purpose despite the many foreigners around), our luggage got through without a hitch despite our initial worries that our package of Buddy Bears could be rather suspicious looking.

Our transport to our hotel was arranged by the ICAAP organisers, so we didn't have to worry about getting taxis. The hotel that we booked was not in the list of ICAAP's official hotels (we cheapskates opted for a budget hotel) but there was an official hotel nearby so we were supposed to be sent to the nearest hotel in the official ICAAP transport.

Well, the moment we got into the van with our things and all, we managed to coax the driver to send us to our budget hotel - giving our loads of luggage as part of the excuse. The other excuse was we had a handicapped person on a wheelchair in our team. The driver didn't argue at all, he sent us to right to the reception of our hotel, and although he didn't ask for it, we gave him a small token.

Our hotel... quite comfortable I must say despite it being a budget hotel.

Initially we wanted to go to BICC (Bali International Convention Center) on the same day to register, but by the time we checked in and went out to get lunch, it was already 4 pm and registration for the day was only open until 5 pm; and so we decided to register on Sunday itself.

The long queue to get our delegates photo ID. Our friend here on the wheelchair managed to skip the queue. One of the organisers helped him out.

After registration and familiarizing ourselves with the convention center (which was quite a task I tell you... where was this room and that room... where was our booth at the Asia Pacific Village... where was my poster supposed to be put up etc) we went back to our hotel. We needed to get ready for the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Dinner at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana park in Jimbaran. We decided not to take the official shuttle bus for the opening ceremony. Thank God we for that. Imagine our horror when we got to GWK and saw that all vehicles (except for VIPs) were to park at the bottom of the hill and we were all supposed to climb up all the way to the park where the function was supposed to be held. Even our van was not allowed to go up initially but the driver helped to appeal to the security people, telling them that we had a wheelchair-bound person on board - how on earth was he supposed to go up the stairs all the way?

So yes, our van was given permission to go up; even then our friend still needed help getting around as there were still some steps we had to go through to get to the park. Luckily the security people there helped to carry our friend in his wheelchair.

A not so sweet looking Malaysian with 2 sweet looking Balinese.

The Buddies present chairperson and past chairperson in action... nice or not my body??

Performance on stage during the opening ceremony. Notice the moon?
