[Highlight] Malaysia's Day!

[Highlight] Malaysia's Day!

Malaysia's Day!

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 10:59 AM PDT

Cehh, I scolded several people today. Well, we might not realized our mistakes, but others can. Some of them in a denial stage, keep denying this and that and pretend they never did any mistakes. Where else I have observed them for a long time (I'm a good observer, ask Manji if you don't believe me). I hope these several people will take my SHARP advice (bullets, haha) not only to improve their work ethics, but also useful in working environment later. Outside world is harsh, my juniors...!

Ok, sorry I'm out of the topic just now. Today is 16th September, the formation of Malaysia, or some called it a Independence Day for Borneo states, Sabah and Sarawak. But I'm not sure free from what, British I guess. Ermm...

This date is least remember by most Malaysians, especially the Peninsular. Only after the wake up call of the recent GE, many people realized they had been fooled by the ruling government about the real date of formation of Malaysia.

Before this, they still shouting merdeka during 31st August and totally forgot the real date when Sabah and Sarawak ( Singapore) are ''forced'' joining with Malaya to form a country called Malaysia.

Sabah and Sarawak ''macam lembu dicucuk hidung'' celebrate Malaya's Independence Day too. Sigh. Stupid.

Nah, no need for me to rewrite how Borneo states are forced into Malaysia, since most of you may have read it in blogosphere.

Till then, SELAMAT HARI MALAYSIA!

Era Najib Altantuya : Harapan Untuk Melihat UMNO Berkubur Semakin Nyata (updated)

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 10:08 AM PDT

"Umno mesti mati kerana hidup mereka hanyalah dibuat-buat.

-Harakahdaily/TVPAS

Introducing A Few Pahang Artists..

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 10:14 AM PDT

It was my unexpected good luck that I was asked to chip in to help our Pahang Art Gallery last year. Gosh..I didn't even know how to use the computer then. What can I possibly do? There were 2 others at the Pahang Art Gallery. A very distinguished artist who was also the curator then and a young chap who did the odd jobs at the gallery.

After around 3 months I left. No..I was not fired. I just felt I did not attain the desired measure..I didn't meet the mark!

However, I did manage to do some good services for the Art Gallery. YB Dato' M was happy with my mumbo-jumbo efforts. However, I will not mention them. On the other hand, I will highlight the wonderful and proud experience of knowing a very talented and exceptionally creative pool of Pahang artists.

I have already made plans for them to hold an exhibition at the TV3 lobby in early October. Since Hari Raya is just around the corner, discussions with regards to the logistics had to be put on hold first. Any sponsors? The artists need a small lorry to transport their paintings. They also need to make some brochures and banners.

Fortunately, thanks to TV3's generosity, we will have an exhibition of the artworks by Pahang Artists as planned. Only the exact date is yet to be confirmed.

Here's a preview of some of the excellent artworks that will be on display for sale. We have around 40-60 very well-known Pahang artists.

For starters, we have Abu Yusof and Amin Daud.

Please enjoy the paintings. For the coming exhibition, if you'd like to come, please email me your name and address. I was told that only guests with invitations are allowed to come in and view the one month exhibition-cum-sale of the splendid local artworks.

From time to time, I will post on my blog some of the artworks that will be exhibited in October. The artists have planned to showcase around 60 artworks..you'll marvel at their talent..unbelievable!
p.s. Paintings are for sale with immediate effect..even before the exhibition!

meme: save yvonne’s sight

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 09:43 AM PDT

oh gee, it had been a long time i have not done a meme… er… actually it is a long time i have not heard/seen a meme done by any blogger. i remember at one stage meme was in vogue. i really don't like to do meme as i consider most of them kind of silly (and just for expressing this opinion, one blogger was mad at me!). well for sure there were silly meme and there were some good ones… even so good or bad i still consider meme kind of wasting time and what i dread was to tag others! they might not like to be tagged or when they were tagged, they do the meme out of obligation to me and not that they want to do it (because i guess they have the same view as me of meme!).

anyway just a few days ago i had been tagged to do a meme by ktemoc and this is one meme i wouldn't say at all silly or waste of time or did not want to do it. this is one meme i wouldn't miss for the life of me… because it is for a good cause, a very good cause – to save the sight of a young lady.

this meme has to do with… yes, as the heading suggest… saving the sight of yvonne fong. yvonne is one young spunky lady whom i got to know as far back as 2005. it was during the 2005 merdeka blogger project and 2005 blogathon, where i have to introduce blogs i like or new blog, that i introduce her blog. i also blog about her blogathon effort in which she raise funds for the eden handicap centre.

ah talking about raising fund, do you know that yvonne suffers from the rare disease neurofibromatosis (NF) and she had single-handedly raise funds for herself for her operations. six months ago she had lost her hearing and now she is in danger of losing her eyesight unless she goes for a surgery. the surgery in US will cost her a whooping RM158,000.000 (approx.)! She had already raised RM10,000 but of course this is not enough. she's still in the process of raising funds by selling her own book 'i'm not sick, just a bit unwell' and also her custom-designed t-shirts. you can help by buying her book (in english and mandarin) and her t-shirt. another way you can help is of course to spread this meme. it will give her exposure and publicity. it is very easy to do and spread this meme. follow the instructions thus:

#—–

1. Create a blog entry titled "Meme: Save Yvonne's Sight"

2. List three things you love to see. Add in the picture of Yvonne's book cover. The URL is http://www.yvonnefoong.com/images/banner/my-story.jpg

3. End with the line, "Yvonne Foong is in danger of losing her eyesight thanks to neurofibromatosis (NF). Please find out how you can help her by visiting her blog at http://www.yvonnefoong.com."

4. Tag 5 blog friends. Be sure to copy the rules, OK?

5. If you have a Facebook account, please check out Ellen's new invention, a "feme" pronounced FEEM, a meme designed for Facebook here. And if you want to blog about NF, that would be great too!

—–##

ok i had already done step 1, so now i'll do step 2.

the three things i love to see:

1. the smile of a baby

2. youngsters giving their seats to old people

3. rainbow!

yvonne

oh gee, now come the difficult part – to tag 5 persons! ok i'll 'ting tong tiang' choose and if you are tag and you are not free to do the meme, it's ok by me, but hopefully you will do it since it is for a good cause. if you had already been tagged, then just ignore my tag.

i'm tagging:

1. jimmy leow
2. bob jot
3. liewCF
4. simon talks
5. whatalulu

remember, jimmy, bob, liew, simon and lulu – copy the rules (from # to ##) in your blog, and make sure you do all the 5 steps (final step is optional). i thank you very very much, from the bottom of my heart if you do this meme. god bless you! however if you can't do it for some reason, i thank you all the same (for reading this!).

yvonne foong is in danger of losing her eyesight thanks to neurofibromatosis (NF). please find out how you can help her by visiting her blog.

Era Najib Altantuya : Kerana Bagan Pinang, Mereka Dibebaskan

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 09:55 AM PDT

Menjelang pilihan raya kecil Bagan Pinang, lima tahanan Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA) dilaporkan akan dibebaskan hari ini.

Ia sama seperti pembebasan pemimpin utama pertubuhan Hak Asasi Hindu (Hindraf), menjelang pilihanraya kecil Bukit Selambau.

-Harakahdaily

16th September 2009 is Malaysia Day

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 06:19 AM PDT

Happy Malaysia Day !!!

Malaysia was formed on that day, 16th September 1963. This is a speech given by Hon Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan MP MLA JPPresident of Sabah United Party (Parti Bersatu Sabah) extracted from, The Making of a Malaysian (1991). Some extracts, "The date 16th September 1963 is a very special date for all Malaysians. It was the day when the Federation of Malaysia was inaugurated. In celebrating the occasion today, we must keep in mind that when the idea of forming a larger federation comprising the then Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak was first proposed by Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1961, it did not materialize overnight.

The proposal was discussed and debated at great length by prominent leaders from all communities. The ordinary people of Sabah and Sarawak were also given a chance to freely express their views and to decide whether to be part of the new federation or not. "

Towards the end of his speech, "Finally, before I conclude, let me again stress the importance of this day - 16th September. Given the importance of this day in our history, I would make a request to the federal government. The request is that starting from next year, 16th September should be declared a national public holiday to mark Malaysia Day.

Our further request is that as from next year, the period from 31st August to 16th September shall be specifically set aside for national unity activities and programmes. National unity celebration should commence on 31st August and close on 16th September.

I feel that these requests are reasonable and acceptable to the federal government. We believe that Malaysia Day serves as a powerful symbol of togetherness. It seems such a pity that Malaysia Day comes and goes every year unheralded and unsung in a nation that marks and commemorates so many other days which are far less significant than that historic day when Malaysia was proclaimed." The complete speech and source... (Well, dream on.....edit)

Here is the 20 Point Agreement for Sabah to join Malaysia :

1.Religion. While there was no objection to Islam being the national religion of Malaysia there should be no........... Continue to the 19 points....The original source.

I did live through those early years before and after independence. As I remember it, as an Anak Sarawak, Independence Day fell on September 16, in 1963. Such a day is well remembered by Sarawakians and Sabahans of my generation, but why should Umno and their millions of minions care? In the self-consciousness of Umno, as guardians and executors of Malay destiny in their Malay homeland, only they can make history. Their ideology of Malay dominance is first manifest in their dominance of the powers to write and interpret Malaysian history. Their natural psychological impulse is what the historian Eric Hobsbawm calls "official nationalism". In full..."Merdeka reflections" by Sim Kwang Yang in Malaysiakini - subscription required.

To one and all, Abdul Rahman happily took credit for the formation of the Malaysian Federation. As he puts it. "I am the father of Malaysia." But the Tunku (it means Prince) was the indispensable catalyst without whom Malaysia could not have been achieved. He wooed, bullied and cajoled the four other countries into the federation agreement, was the only logical choice to serve as the new nation's first Prime Minister.

Happy, Not Mighty. Unlike most other new Asian leaders, Abdul Rahman is no rabid nationalist. He has remained on close, friendly terms with the British, has no interest in pie-in-the-sky economic schemes. His political aims are simple: "Food instead of bullets, clothing instead of uniforms, houses instead of barracks.'' His new nation has a combat army of only seven battalions and an air force so small that the pilots often have trouble finding a fourth for bridge. "My ambition is not mighty Malaysia," says Abdul Rahman, "but happy Malaysia." Time Pgs 1-7

Faith Healing Risks Recovery - bbc online

Faith healing could jeopardise recovery from illness, research by the University of Ulster suggests

A belief in faith healing could jeopardise recover from illness, according to a new study by a University of Ulster researcher.

Dr Tony Cassidy said he believes that some people who put their trust in faith healing may be less likely to adhere to medical advice.

He will be presenting his research at a British Psychological Society conference in Birmingham.

The Coleraine-based academic's research team questioned 766 people on their belief in and intention to use faith healing.

They were also surveyed about their intention to adhere to medical advice.

"We found that belief and intention to use faith healing was a significant predictor of self-reported non-adherence to a medication," Dr Cassidy said.

"Participants who believed strongly in faith healing were also more likely to say they were less satisfied with their GP.

"Given that only about one-in-three people follow medical advice totally and about one in four put their lives at risk through non-adherence, it's important that health care professionals understand their patients' beliefs about alternative remedies, such as faith healing."

But one Belfast GP, Dr Paul Corry, believes that sometimes the opposite is the case.

"Often patients that do have a faith in God or have had a Christian healing prayer for them, show a better outcome because they are more positive," Dr Corry explained.

"They have hope where maybe they didn't have it before."

Anwar Kepada Najib Altantuya : Amarah Rakyat Tiada Penghujung

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 09:06 AM PDT

"Okay, dia kata hendak rampas Selangor macam hendak rampas Perak.

"Saya kata beza dia macam mana kita lihat negara kita. Umno kata dia Ketuanan Melayu, dia tolong Melayu. Saya hendak tanya mereka. AP sepuluh tahun berapa puluh billion.

"We will fight, we will never surrender, " katanya. -TVA

I accepted a job which I thought was lemon squeezy but after a glimpse of it I thought shiiiiiiiit...instantly I know a mountain of a task awaits me ahead.

So instead of getting straight down to it I procrastinated, and went wandering around the net and You-tubing for hours.

While at it I came across this video below which I find its groovy rhythm rather, how shall i put it...'interesting'?.

First time listening yet the sound was so familiar.

The intro especially should immediately hit the chord amongst the guys (and some women).

Kih kih...

Ok, gotta get back to work. But not before another round of Back and Forth...need to learn getting into the rhythm real quick...muahahahaha...

A MALAYSIAN MERDEKA?

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 08:14 AM PDT

MERDEKA. MERDEKA. MERDEKA. So what? As I mentioned last year and the year before, we cannot even stick to facts and figures, thus, what Merdeka are we talking about? Is it Merdeka or Malaysia Day? Sabah was Merdeka on its own for 16 days beginning 31 August 1963. Then, on Sept 16 that year, she helped formed Malaysia. But, we can debate till the cows come home and there will still be no end to it. Perhaps, my friend KJ John expressed it better in this rather lengthy article. And yes, I am proud to be Anak Bangsa Malaysia. (READ THIS TOO)

A MALAYSIAN MERDEKA

KJ JOHN

Tunku Abidin Muhriz made an interesting point in his column in The Sun (dated 11th September) about Indonesia having "fought for her independence and Malaya having earned it without a fight."

That makes the Indonesians able to "fight for their rights" including their reformasi movement to overthrow Pak Suharto.

Malaysians still negotiate using tai chi or silat where the movements are more show than reality; the underlying reality is more true and real but this can only be discovered by an astute cultural observer.

In Kelantan, they call this "wayang kulit" whereas in the screenplay reality is never the same as back-screen reality. The real 'truth' is always hidden from the common and public eye.
'Merdeka' was our Father of Independence's cry to the British on 31st August 1957.

But, was 'Merdeka' ever the cry of our Sabahans and Sarawakians?

Yes, they probably wanted their own 'Merdeka', but would never have thought that almost 46 years after their 'Merdeka' they are forced to accept the Merdeka of 1957, when they were still a British colony!

They, too, voted for independence in 1965 and together with the three other states of Singapore, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaya, agreed to form what is now known as Malaysia.

'East Malaysians' an upsetting term

It was never that Peninsular Malaya somehow morphed into Malaysia based on the Malay identity, culture, tradition and faith.

In fact, for the Malaysians of Sabah and Sarawak (they are not even 'East Malaysians' as this term upsets them).

Peninsular is only simply referred to as 'Semenanjong'.

It was called Malaya, with a people called Malays, but it was a totally different culture, people group or ethnicity and tradition, with a Muslim majority.
Therefore, 'Merdeka' for Malaysia is actually on the 16th September 2009.

I have decided to declare this day to my family as our real Malaysian Merdeka Day and I will from now onwards only fly the Jalur Gemilang on that single day.

There is still really nothing much to celebrate about this 'Merdeka' as our brothers and sisters from Sabah and Sarawak are still not treated with dignity and integrity yet.

Why is it so difficult for all of us to accept this 'truth in history'?

History never lies to anyone but the ignorant.

Those interested in finding the real truth will be willing to travel up to China looking for it!

The simple and known truth is that our Bapa Merdeka's version is only a Malayan Merdeka.

It will and can never ever become a Malaysian Merdeka day because our other brothers and sisters were not at the same celebration party!

Why, then, do we seek to exclude them through our ignorance of logic, history, and common civility?

Therefore, some of us have agreed to join others and fast on that day for 'Peace through Freedom' in Malaysia.

Unity not merely a slogan

Yet, most of us are also meeting together as Muslims and Christians to reflect on what values drive Malaysian morality and what responsibilities each community carries in ensuring a united Malaysia.
Unity cannot merely be a slogan.

Mathematical unity is ensconced into the integer '1'.

Therefore, the number on a base of 10 defines the integrity of all mathematics we know today from modern mathematics and science.

The zero also defines all such mathematics and provides the base of all computer science!

One plus one can be 2 but never 11.

And yet, in creative thinking, we teach that one plus one can be eleven.

The Lim Kok Wing University claims that they drive creativity - such arrogance and lack of integrity.

Let us therefore be prudent with pure and refined mathematics which even defines modern musical instruments and make everything else a creative art!

True mathematics is not creative science; it is integrated logic which defines even artistic and modern music!

'Wayang kulit' no longer feasible

Therefore, the Federal Government driven by UMNO must realize that they cannot play "wayang kulit" anymore since Najib has mathematically defined the unity equation through his '1Malaysia' slogan.

It cannot also be '1Malaysia' where the grandson of Onn Jaffar (left) sits down with "uncivil members of our Malaysian family" (please see Marina Mahathir's column on this subject) and take it upon themselves to rewrite "yang tersurat dan tersirat".

There cannot be such doublespeak!

Then when the Indonesians do the same, we cannot accept it!

But it is not the Foreign Minister who protests but the Minister who specializes in misinformation and disinformation more than information.

Both of them need to review their mathematics and understand the '101' logic.
'Merdeka' means only one thing in the Malay language.

It cannot mean 'Merdeka' for Peninsular Malaya and subservience to Sabah and Sarawak at the same time.

That is precisely why Singapore, under Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew, was smart enough to leave.

They could not see the elusive Malaysian Merdeka ever taking form on Malaysia Day!

Hope belongs to the people

I have more hope that we can, but it belongs to the people.
Recently, a few months ago, brother Haris Ibrahim (right) started a closed e-mail group called 'Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia' (or SABM for short).

I believe there are about 70-80 of us in this e-group.

The language is English, and a British one at that.

We all agreed to 'breakfast' together on September 16th at our new 'home' in Malaysia.

We consensually agreed not to serve pork or beef out of respect for other religion sensitivities!

Now, my only prayer is that we can all also agree to the 'fast for peace' initiative and break fast with our Muslim brothers and sisters on that auspicious day and really celebrate our real Malaysian Merdeka!

I will even fly the flag for this one day!
I had a meeting with Tan Sri Bernard Dompok last week and we invited him to become the Patron of the Boys Brigade Malaysia.

In the conversation, he joked with us about talking to Sabahans and asking them, "when did you first come to Malaysia?"

To a Sabahan and Sarawakian there cannot be a greater insult than this.

They live in and own two-thirds of what is left of Malaysia and, even if we give a double portion to the oldest son they still own half of Malaysia!

Stop the insults and seek the true meaning

Therefore, we should stop insulting them and seek to establish the one and only real and true meaning of a Malaysian Merdeka on the 16th September, every year.
My honest and simple suggestion to Prime Minister Najib (son of Tun Razak) is to please declare a Malaysia Day holiday in the nation and let us truly celebrate this in a whole new way throughout the country.

The Merdeka of Malaysia celebrations can continue as it is but let us all become the real meaning of 1Malaysia and develop a single common day where we, as one big family, can all equally and commonly celebrate the real Malaysia Day.
Then, we are truly a 1Malaysia with no more slogans.

Further, when "this race-nonsense" is removed from registration forms the foundations of a one united Malaysia is then laid out.
Sir, only you have the audacity to undertake this because of your pedigree.

A Little Steam And Some Eggs

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 04:46 AM PDT

I love to eat, which probably explains my perpetually losing battle with trying to keep my weight down. I can't help it. Whenever I see food, my stomach takes over and start it's manipulative pull on my mind asking me to go stuff my face silly! And half the time I obey its every command without question. After all who am I to argue with my mind, right? LOL!

If it wasn't for wifey giving me the eye (and what an eye she has ... hehehe) I'd be scooping a mountain full of rice, spaghetti and whatnot's on my plate to the point that I would be so bloated after dinner that I'd start having breathing difficulties, well maybe not that extreme but you get my meaning. I think I'd be bigger than fat Albert if it wasn't for wifey keeping her eyes on my food consumption.

These days I also like cooking (Adrian, I can hear you laughing all the way from here) and am perpetually trying to cook up (pun intended) all kinds of stuff. Things that I see in shops or things that I've eaten before will always be on my list of experiments, mostly ruined ones mind you much to the exasperation of wifey.

Wifey always does the cooking at home and she does a great job mind you but there are times when I wanna try a certain dish I've seen out there or see if I can make something that wifey has done previously on my own. Normally when I'm experimenting (and half the time ruining stuff) wifey will eventually take over and salvage my experiments though sometimes no amount of salvaging would help.

But last Saturday I managed to cook, well more like steam, something all by myself without needing any help from wifey. I love eggs and dishes that include eggs are on my list of all time favourites. So last week, I decided that I wanted to make steamed eggs, you know, the kind that you find in those Chinese restaurants that sells mixed rice.

I love this dish and if I happen to eat at any of these Chinese restaurants, I'd NEVER fail to order it. They come with different ingredients such as having salted eggs in some, or having minced pork or chicken or just plain eggs with sauce but I love it in any style. So, I pestered wifey to look up the internet for detailed instructions on how to make this dish and what ingredients I would need while I checked on the refrigerator water filters that needed some adjustments.

I know it's not the hardest dish in the world to make, in fact it's probably the simplest but you must remember, it's me we're talking about here. I can even ruin boiling water! But I must say that after getting all the proper ingredients and with lots of questions thrown to wifey as to what to do next, I managed to make the dish all on my own without ruining it. Heavens be praised! Miracles do happen. Urrrmmm, I'll just skip the part about the mess I made in the kitchen ... LOL!

Anyways, my first attempt at making steamed eggs turned out just perfect and tasty that even wifey enjoyed it. You should have seen me boasting about my culinary skill all day after that ... hahaha! It tasted exactly if not better than the ones you find in those mixed rice restaurants. I added bits of salted fish and minced chicken marinated with teriyaki sauce in mine which made it all the more awesome :D Suffice to say there wasn't a single piece left.

And I just couldn't resist posting a picture of Pebbles sitting and waiting patiently for her dinner and no, I didn't give her one bit of my yummy steamed eggs. I'm very possessive with my food ... hahaha!

Era Najib Altantuya : Dayasaing Malaysia Corot

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 07:02 AM PDT

- Suara Keadilan

Era Najib Altantuya : Mahkamah Tetapkan 29 Sept SPRM Cabar Pekeliling Kerajaan Selangor

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 06:38 AM PDT

""It is the responsibility of the menteri besar to take care of the safety and welfare of all state government officers, especially in light of the Teoh Beng Hock case,"

The 7th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment in action for all the wrong reasons

Posted: 15 Sep 2009 06:03 AM PDT

One month ago, on 3 August, Army personnel from the Bn 7 Rejimen Askar Melayu Di Raja swooped on Pulau Pandanan Kecil, off Semporna and ordered the villagers there to take down all the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) flags hoisted at their houses. When the villagers declined to comply, the army personnel brought the flags down for them. When confronted by a disgruntled villager on who ordered them to do so, the army personnel replied that it was an instruction from their 'boss', without giving any name.

Outraged by the incident, one of the villagers later lodged a police report at the Semporna district police station. The outrageous episode was videoed and photographed by a courageous villager and sent to me. Continue reading in Putt For Change

The sovereignty of Sabah is being dangerously compromised with the involvement of the Armed forces in politics. The intrusion of fully armed army personnel in demanding a villager Datu Pengiran Ahmad Datu Ali Alam, who is a member of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to take down the party flag which he proudly hoisted in his house, simply because the Minister of Defence, Datuk Zahid Hamidi was making an "Ops Pasir" visit is not only tantamount to abuse of power but complete erosion and violation of his constitutional rights and freedom of association with the political party of his choice.

In a magnanimous stand, Supreme council member, Hj.Ansari Abdullah and the state leadership of Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR) of Sabah called for the armed forces to keep out of the political realm of the country,at a press conference. The video clip on the press conference is presented to you here.

Part 1

For Parts 2 to Four and the whole write up go here to Ronnie Klassen's blog 'Putt For Change".

It has also been reliably learnt, that the police had forwarded the report made by Datu Pengiran Ahmad to the Army for their further action. I was also informed by Datu Pengiran Ahmad that, he was also approached by a third party to withdraw his police report and negotiate the matter amicably. What was there to negotiate is absolutely mind-boggling.
