Always pray and not give up: The widow and unjust judge

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 08:26 AM PDT

Luke 18

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. 3And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'

4"For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, 5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' "

6And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

Dried fruit from 15 companies on Level 5 alert (Update)

By LESTER KONG

lester@thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has put dried fruit products, particularly plum and prune products, from 15 companies in China, Taiwan and other Asian countries, on Level 5 alert because of their high levels of lead.

Ministry staff will be on the lookout for these products under the Food Information System of Malaysia (FoSIM) at entry points for 15 manufacturers and distributors to ensure the products do not come into the country, Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said on Thursday.

With a Level 5 alert, the Ministry would hold the products to test them for lead content before they can be released into the market.

The highest alert, Level 6, involves an immediate rejection of the product.

Currently, dried fruit product by other manufacturers and distributors were permitted to be imported and sold in Malaysia, said Liow. "If these products (from the 15) are found in the market, they will be seized and sampled for lead analysis," he added.

A list of the 15 manufacturers and distributors can be found at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/foods/plumproducts.shtm.

Liow said the monitoring was started following an Oct 1 US Food and Drug Administration report warning people not to consume dried fruit, including dried plums and prunes, due to lead contamination.

"If a product by a manufacturer or distributor is found to contain more than the permitted two parts per million (ppm), legal action will be taken under the Food Regulations 1985," Liow told reporters after launching the ministry's management conference on Thursday.

It was learnt that products from the 15 contained lead levels of up to 30 ppm.

"We advise consumers not to buy products from the affected manufacturers and distributors while sellers who have them should report them to the district health office or the state health department," he said.

If convicted, guilty parties can be fined up to RM100,000, jailed for up to 10 years or both.

Lead, in cumulative amounts over time, causes nervous system disorders and distorts brain development, especially in children.

BN's Islamic push in Bagan Pinang is final thrust - najib altantuya nizar nizar nizar

BN campaign billboards showing a caring PM Najib visiting an invalid Nik Aziz in hospital...in 2004 hopes to portray the Islamic side of the coalition.

Below the billboard, part of a hadith (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad) has been quoted which says: "Ciri-ciri mukmin yang sejati ialah menghormati tetangganya, menyambungkan tali persaudaraan dan memiliki keprihatinan terhadap penderitaan yang dirasakan oleh saudara sekitarnya."

hehe...I am sure there were many others who were non-Muslims who visited Nik Aziz besides Najib. So, these non-Muslims also had the character of respecting their neighbour, and fostering good ties with one another and having concern for the hardship (calamity) that is felt by the community.

World Animal Day: PJ to launch 'Dog Forum'

good move
GOOD MOVE: Dr Sadiah (left) listening to Thanasayan explaining the purpose of the forum which will be held on Sunday

ARE dogs man's best friend, or worst enemy? The question triggers different answers. As a result, Petaling Jaya Municipal Council's Health Department is joining with the Department of Veterinary Services,
the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA), Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Pet Positive, local councils in Selangor and other NGOs to launch a forum, simply titled, "Dog Forum" this Sunday, Oct 11.
In conjunction with World Animal Day, the forum will be launched by Selangor Exco member Ronnie Liu and will see the council addressing problems faced by residents regarding dogs.
Canine Action Team committee chairman Anthony Sivabalan Thanasayan said the forum is a great ground as it brings all the forces together.
"The point of the forum is to educate residents, be it pet lovers or haters, how dogs should be treated. It's special to us because this is the first time a local council is working together with the NGOs and the city council is pleased to organise the event."
"This is important because the council will be able to get in touch with the residents directly. We want to educate them and make them understand so that everyone can work things out together," he said.
Thanasayan said some 200 participants are expected to join the forum which will feature four speakers.
These are the president of the International Movement for a Just World (JUST) Dr Chandra Muzaffar, SPCA chairman Christina Chin, Petaling District veterinary officer Dr Thiba Rajoo, city council's Health Department director Dr Sadiah Abdullah and Thanasayan.
Meanwhile, Dr Sadiah said the council faces the problem of many stray dogs on the streets that are not easy to catch.
"There's a technique to it and while most animal lovers find it cruel, that's when I'll come in to give a talk on how we do our job. Instead of being accused, we'd like to explain how we get things done by showing a video of us catching stray dogs. It's going to be a two-way communication," she said.
"We promise that all residents will be given a chance to talk about their problems. It's good to own a dog but owners should know their responsibilities and vice-versa.
"The real speakers are the residents themselves, we are just trying to address the problems and take opinions given into consideration," said Sadiah.
Thanasayan summed it up with the words: "Most people get dogs for the wrong reasons. "But people should know this, there are no bad dogs, only bad owners."

Era Najib Altantuya : Rakyat Tolak Politik Samseng UMNO

Kenyataan Akhbar N31 Bagan Pinang
8 Oktober 2009

Antaranya:

i. Lott tanah laut di Bt 3, Jalan Pantai, Telok Kemang antara Astana Hotel dan Corus Hotel milik syarikat yang dikuasai oleh Yb Ismail Taib (Adun Linggi sekarang) Exco Kerajaan Negeri dan Ibrahim Embi – rujukkan foto yang ada.

ii.

Sekian…

Why don't the Indons invade Bahrain instead of Malaysia, there is a better reason.....

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 03:26 AM PDT

Bendera, a nut job, fringe group from Indonesia made the threats to invade Malaysia following its disgruntlement with Malaysia over a number of issues, the latest being the alleged theft of a traditional Balinese dance.Protests in Indonesia saw angry locals torching Malaysian flags, while hackers defaced Malaysian websites. The poor treatment of Indonesian workers, especially maids being severely abused at the hands of their Malaysian employers, have also been a sore point. Malaysiakini in full....

Why not you scumbags, invade Bahrain instead, here is a good enough reason."Bahrain: An Indonesian maid was stabbed, strangled, got her throat cut, and died as a result of an... accident." Yes, a pure accident. At least this is how the defense presents it. Bahrain. A BAHRAINI accused of murdering a housemaid could have accidently killed her while disposing her body, thinking she was already dead, according to his lawyer.

The High Criminal Court was yesterday requested by defence lawyer Fatima Al Hawaj to summon a medical examiner to find the real reason behind her death. She said it was still not clear how the Indonesian housemaid died after the 38-year-old threw a screwdriver at her which hit her head. Prosecutors claimed he initially tried to strangle Ami Tursiya Takiyat, 29, but cut her throat when he couldn't kill her with his bare hands, then dumped her body on wasteland. The defendant was arrested after allegedly being spotted trying to dump the body on a wasteland in Sitra.

It is believed Ms Takiyat was still alive, but bleeding from a slit throat as her attacker dragged her from the family home near the Toyota showroom in Sitra. More... Hat tip : Eye On The World

Islamophobes urge Canadian government to ban burqas, niqabs in public

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 03:20 AM PDT

TORONTO — Middle Eastern garments designed to cover a woman's face are "medieval" and "misogynist" symbols of extremism with no basis in Islam, a Canadian Muslim lobby group said Wednesday as it urged Ottawa to ban the burka and the niqab. The Muslim Canadian Congress called on the federal government to prohibit the two garments in order to prevent women from covering their faces in public -- a practice the group said has no place in a society that support gender equality.

"To cover your face is to conceal your identity," congress spokeswoman Farzana Hassan said in a telephone interview, describing the issue as a matter of public safety, since concealing one's identity is a common practice for criminals. The tradition of Muslim women covering their faces in public is a tradition rooted more in Middle Eastern culture than in the Islamic faith, Hassan added.

There is nothing in any of the primary Islamic religious texts, including the Qur'an, that requires women to cover their faces, she said -- not even in the controversial, ultra-conservative tenets of Sharia law.Considering the fact that women are in fact forbidden from wearing burkas in the grand mosque in Mecca, Islam's holiest site, it hardly makes sense that the practice should be permitted in Canada, she said.

"If a government claims to uphold equality between men and women, there is no reason for them to support a practice that marginalizes women." The proposed ban would include the burka, an iconic head-to-toe gown with a mesh-like panel over the face that allows the wearer to see and to breathe, as well as the niqab -- a veil that leaves only the eyes exposed. Hassan said the ban would not extend to the hijab, a traditional headscarf that does not cover the face.

The proposed ban comes on the heels of reports that Sheikh Mohamed Tantawi, dean of Egypt's al-Azhar university and the country's highest Muslim authority, is poised to issue a fatwa, or religious edict, against the garments. Media reports Monday said Tantawi described the face coverings as "a custom that has nothing to do with the Islamic faith." Mohamed Elmasry, former president of the Canadian Islamic Congress, said he agrees the tradition has its roots in cultural customs rather than religious teachings, but that the issue is irrelevant in Canada where the practice is not widespread.

Elmasry disputed suggestions that the garments pose a security threat, saying only a minority of Muslim women living in Canada feel the need to conceal their features in public. He said he believes those women should have the freedom to decide whether they wish to cover their faces, and that a ban would limit freedom of expression. "People feel it's part of their identity, people feel it's part of their culture," Elmasry said. "It's not for you and me to decide." CTV News

Thank You, DIGI!

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 03:34 AM PDT

This month had been really hectic and mood destroyer. Really lack of sleep, even rest.. I'm mentally tortured.. Can't wait for STPM to come in approximately 47 more days and can't wait for it to end on 9th December. Had frequent mood swings, problems popping out one after another. Arghhh... frustrations!

However, after what I faced.. There are some good things that actually dropped by in my life. Nice people I met a long the way and even nice freebies. Gotta thank DIGI a lot too... It lightens up my mood for now.

Last weekend, I bought this from a mute girl. Pitied her and bought the craft cause it's quite sweet.. I hope it'll be a lucky charm for me.. Alright.. back to DIGI.. why do I need to thank them...

Upon reaching home after "perahing" my brains for 2 hours+ in the library immediately after school.. I receive a package from CITY-LINK (a courier service). Been wondering who sent it cause the last time I actually receive a parcel, it contains GSC Gold Class tickets and Coffee Bean vouchers from Kakiis.com. Today, it's from DIGI Telecommunication Sdn. Bhd. What's inside it then?

More movie tickets! Haha. Thanks a lot! Didn't know why they sent it to me cause I didn't join any competitions. At least it really helps in cheering me up a little after studying like crazy. No harm done for watching a movie in the cinema for 2 hours. I'm not that crazy yet compared to others who study day and night and not resting. Lol. Once again,

THANK YOU DIGI!

You're always the smarter choice!

Era Najib Altantuya : Bersama Talkinkan UMNO BN Di Bagan Pinang

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 02:54 AM PDT

Era Najib Altantuya : Banner TOLAK ISA Diturunkan MPPD, Polis

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 02:47 AM PDT

Era Najib Altantuya : Peneroka Dedah Wajah Sebenar Isa Samad

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 02:36 AM PDT

"Berpuluh tahun tanah jadi milik rakyat, satu sen pun tarif harga tanah naik.

Era Najib Altantuya : Bekas ADUN Dakwa Isa Khianati Masyarakat Cina

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 02:23 AM PDT

"Dia memang hero kalau dia bukan hero bagaimana dia berani jual tanah...Buat benda jahat boleh dipanggil hero, bukan hanya lakukan benda baik," kata Ah Ping -TVA

Era Najib Altantuya : UMNO Terdesak. Ceroboh Markaz dan Tetak Petugas PAS

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 02:14 AM PDT

Petugas- petugas Dewan Pemuda PAS (DPP) pilihanraya kecil Bagan Pinang cedera parah ditetak oleh sekumpulan 20 lelaki bermotosikal dipercayai penyokong UMNO Barisan Nasional kira- kira jam 3.30 pagi tadi.

Sibu In The Blue Ocean

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 01:41 AM PDT

Essentially, "Blue Ocean Strategy" is to provide a new way to make competition irrelevant. This strategy of the 21st century aims to create an uncontested new market place. Put it in a nutshell, the whole idea is to create and capture new demand (hidden or even not existing).

Sibu is presently in the midst of searching for a growth direction. What can we possibly do to break the trap?

Towards addressing the burning issue, MPI again took the initiative to organise a public forum to enlighten not only Sibuians, but also those in politics.

Mr. Tan Kee Hian has been invited to speak at "Sibu In The Blue Ocean", a forum scheduled to be held on Nov. 2 at 7:00 pm at kingwood Hotel, Sibu. If you wish to get a clearer profile of Kee Hian, you may read my posts under the labels of Public Forum On The Outlook For Sibu and The 9th Methodist Convention.
I strongly urge you to spare the evening for this highly relevant talk.

Backpacking Travelogy to Northern Thailand

Posted: 07 Oct 2009 11:50 PM PDT

I had just got back from my trip to the few part of northern Thailand. Will try to share my experience with those interested to visit the place. In fact, it was my second trip there. The very first time was part of the incentive trip with some dealers. Back then, it was pure tour guided trip and visited some major tourist attractions.

This time around, I am doing a backpacking. My destination is actually Doi Tung under the Mae Fah Luang province, about 20km from Mae Sai. The most ideal way to get to the place is of course flying to Chiang Rai which means you either fly direct to Bangkok from KL before taking domestic flight from Bangkok to Chiang Rai.

However, due to budget constraint, I took the direct flight from KL to Chiang Mai instead. Thanks to AirAsia, my one-way ticket to Chiang Mai was about RM150. Getting to LCCT had always been a headache but thanks to the new service by the KLIA transit, I took the option of traveling with KLIA transit train from KL Sentral to Salak Tinggi then commute the free bus ride to LCCT, all in total only cost me about RM12.50 per trip.

Reached Chiang Mai @ noon, 1PM to be exact. From the international airport, I opted for a taxi ride to the Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station. The fixed rate for my ride to the bus station cost me only about 150Baht. Upon reaching the Arcade Bus Station, I felt like a total stranger as it was crowded only with local, many gave a strange stare but very fortunately I manage to find someone who can speak an "OK" English. She guided me to counter No. 5, I bought the ticket for Chiang Mai en route to Maesai. The ticket cost me 212Baht. To make it easier for me, the ticket teller remarked on my ticket that I will stop at a place called Doi Tung. Since my bus will only be taking off at 3PM, I managed to bump into an internet cafe that serves some really bad food. After that particular session with the cyberworld, I am totally lost touch with it for about a week and I realized I am ok to be apart from Internet actually :)

The bus trip is good though long. It took me 3 hours to reach Doi Tung. Upon reaching there, it was already about 8PM. My host came and pick me up.

I will share more about the rest of my trip tomorrow :)

Stay tune!

PS: Today I also want to wish my very special brother a very happy birthday! Hey Ah Rim, Happy Birthday to you ya!
