Standing at 6ft 6ins and weighing 34 stone, this woman has been dubbed a modern-day giant - and, alarmingly, she is still growing.Tanya Angus, who suffers from a rare growth condition, is already one of the tallest and heaviest women on the planet. Now doctors say she is the only woman in the world whose growth cannot be halted by medication.
L iving tall: Tanya Angus towers over her mother, sister and stepfather thanks to a rare growth condition Suffering from a rare disease known as Acromeglia, a condition often referred to as 'gigantism', (which means her body is producing too much growth hormone), Tanya rocketed from a slender 5ft 8ins at the age of 18 to a massive 6ft 6ins and 34 stone.'I'm staying hopeful,' says 30-year-old Tanya, from Nevada, USA. 'Without hope you don't have anything. I hope they can stop me growing one day so I can try to live as normally as possible.'Tanya's troubles began in her late teens when she noticed that her feet, face and figure were continuing to grow at an alarming rate.'I started to feel unhappy with my appearance. I started spending a fortune on make-up, trying to make myself look better. I couldn't understand why my face didn't look as attractive any more,' she said.
Tanya, now living with her half-sister, finds it difficult to walk - but won't give up hope Tanya also began suffering severe migraines and felt run down and depressed, as if she was suffering from constant flu. But though she kept going to see her GP, he believed the 20-year-old was just an attention-seeker hoping to be given anti-depressant drugs, and refused to help.Even more shockingly Tanya's figure started to alter. Her once-womanly body became larger overall, and straight up and down - like a man's. 'Someone at work actually asked me if I used to be a man,' she said.'My voice had also changed and become deeper. I was devastated and started to feel very shy and insecure.'
Tanya as she used to be, before her condition changed her world.
Things finally came to a head when her own boyfriend also asked her about her new shape, and got his mum to ask her whether she'd had a sex change. 'I was heartbroken and I decided I didn't want any more to do with him,' she said. 'I phoned my mum and said I wanted to come back to Nevada.'As soon as my sister saw me at the airport, she knew I'd changed, and she called my mum and told her we needed to see a doctor.
'The family GP immediately recognised the signs of gigantism and referred Tanya to a specialist. At that stage she was 6ft 1ins tall, and a size 14 to 16, with a size 10 feet.An MRI scan eventually showed a tumour the size of a grapefruit in her brain which had wrapped itself around her inner carotid artery, causing an overproduction of growth hormone. It was so big, doctors at first said there was nothing to be done. But Tanya's mum Karen, EMT-1 medical professional and firefighter, searched the Internet and medical publications until she finally found a doctor who said he could operate.
In 2003, she Tanya finally underwent surgery to remove most of the tumour, although small parts of it were too difficult to separate from her brain. She was then given a cocktail of drugs to try to control the huge amounts of growth hormones still in her body.Tanya had a count of 3,000 of the hormones, compared to an average person's of just 250. Doctors were anxious to bring the level down to less than 1,000, but they were barely able to do that. Her height had crept up to 6ft 3ins, and she was now a size 20.Unable to walk properly, she had to live with her mother and stepfather. She barely went out and was subjected to stares and make rude comments in the street.'It was horrible,' she said.
'My whole life had to change, and I couldn't do anything for myself any more. 'The hardest thing is that people kept thinking I was man, and calling me sir, which really annoys me. I try to dress in feminine clothes and wear make-up to look nice, but it's really hard when you're my size.'Two years later in 2005, the hormone levels again began to soar, and Tanya's mum sought out a second specialist who discovered the tumour had grown again and was now the size of an orange. 4Tanya with her many bottles of medication - and still doctors cannot find the combination of drugs that will stop her growth.
She underwent further surgery, and fat from her stomach had to be used to pad out areas of brain tissue from where the tumour had been removed.Tanya was put on another set of medication to reduce the growth hormone, but her levels have never sunk to below 900 and are now over 1,000. She is now one of the world's tallest women, and also one of the heaviest. Then two years ago, Tanya also suffered a stroke, caused by the pressure her massive body was putting on her heart. She had to learn how to walk and talk again, and now suffers hearing difficulties. She recovered and went to live with her sister, but still struggles to get around, and now uses a wheelchair.
'Doctors just say there is nothing we can do for her,' said Karen. 'You don't know how many doctors we have called to try and help us. We've spent all our savings, over $200,000 (£122,300) trying to help her.'One doctor even told me that my daughter had only two months to live. That was eight months ago, but I refused to believe it. 'I won't stop until we can find something to halt the growth.'Now Tanya has a new doctor, who she's been seeing for three months, and he is hopeful of finally finding a drug combination to slow down her growth.'I'm doing this story because I want people to understand why I'm this way,' she says. 'It's not my fault I ended up like this.
'People even in my home town are still so hurtful, and I'd like people to be educated so they can treat me as a real person at last.'

Following the delicious success of MBPJ's World Animal Day 2009 Dog Forum on October 11, Petpositive is WORKING OVERTIME to get some of the suggestions at the event in place with the local council and beyond.
One of them is free dog licenses for the disabled and the elderly.
Petpositive is getting a working paper done to strengthen our argument why such privileges are necessary for dog owners with disabilities and the elderly.
We are also concentrating on lobbying with MPs and ADUNS to get all the councils in Selangor to do this too. Currently only Shah Alam is giving dog licenses free to the disabled and half rates for the elderly.
Apart from visiting PET+BLOGSPOT, please also visit us on Facebook, and www.petpositive.com.my
Thank you for your continued support.
We are 127 on Facebook and still climbing. Please get all your friends to join us!

If you are a fan of Taiwan's singing competition TV show, One Million Star 超级星光大道, then you will know her. She is Lala Xu Jia Ying, the winner for the 3rd season of One Million Star. I was a little bit surprised when I knew her English name is Lala, the name is a little bit weird and funny.
She was here in Penang yesterday at Gurney Plaza to do a promo tour for her first new album and Penang was the last station for her to be in Malaysia. I was studying at home and decided to take a break from my reading and walk to Gurney Plaza to join the crowds and fan.
I like her songs a lot since she was in One Million Star. She wrote a lot of songs by her ownself and most of them are good. I like Shen Qi Bai Ma 身骑白马 and Shi Luo Sha Zhou 失落沙洲 the most.
I brought my gear with me and walked fast because it was already late. The mini concert promo tour thing started at 5.30pm and I was there just in time. She just got up on the stage. Everyone is tall and I am short, I found a good spot on the stairs and saw Min Xiang there too.
When she started to sing, it's like a sea of mobile phone and camera in the air. Everyone was so busy shooting with their camera and their mobile phone, so do I.
The MC is one of the DJ from local Chinese radio station, MY FM, didn't got her name but she got a good sense of humour.
Lala Xu Jia Ying sang 3 songs, Shi Luo Sha Zhou, Shen Qi Bai Ma and O Yi Xi, played some games with the fans and had an autograph session at the end of the mini concert. You can actually see the crowds started to disperse when she had finish her singing because most of them didn't buy her original album for autograph. Haha.
Last shot of her was to the back stage, waiting her to come out.
And here is she, looking tired and it's time to go back to Taiwan.
On the other hand, I took videos of the mini concert too. Enjoy.
Shen Qi Bai Ma.
O Yi Xi, dance with one of the fans. Funny.
Shi Luo Sha Zhou:
More video after the break.
Singing with fans.
Cont. with a very talkative fans.

Dear Health Minister YB Dato Liow,
You have the wrong priorities since taking over the ministry.
Instead of taking care of H1N1 you are taking care of your BiNi ( Lee Su Loo )!
Half million Ringgit worth of birthday presents you bought for your wife in January 09!
A Toyota Alphard costing 574,884.10 Ringgit. (Car number plate WSB 15)
Alas!!! Who paid for it? Axis Construction Sdn.Bhd, the company that always appear in your Ministry's winning tender list. God sent or dirty hand?
Mr. Health Minister, take care of the public's health not your bank account. You are no different from the rest of the corrupt officials that dip their fingers in the piggy bank.
Please tell us why your ministry's contractor paid for your wife's car down payment?
There was a cheque on January 2009, HLB 373727 ($ 324,884.10) from Axis Construction to the car dealer for the car WSB 15. Another cheque HLB 373727 paid to the seller. ($ 9,299.90).
Where is your clean heart? Gone to the Cigarette companies?
You also squeezed your contractor to pay for the Monthly instalments for that expensive gift to your BiNi!!
On the 19th of each month, Benny Ho of Axis construction will deposit $4,730 to your BiNi's bank account (Public Bank Saving Account Number 4487469902). Some of the check numbers are HLB 359666 and HLB 383393!
Our country is the worst hit country of H1N1 in the world, you have no idea what to do and all you care for is taking a cruise in your BiNi's ill gotten luxurious car!
........ God help us.

MACC's deputy chief commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed confirmed today that police had referred the case to the MACC and that the commission was looking into it.
More and more twists!

Ok, now I'm seriously getting annoyed with the opposite neighbour. As if the noise they made with the firecrackers last Saturday was not enough so this evening they start blasting away firecrackers non-stop for god knows how long. It's still going on even as I type this post.
Come on people, like I said in my earlier post. I'm not against celebration but be a bit more respectful of your neighbours who harbour peace and quiet. Go ahead and blast all the firecrackers you want but not for two or more non stop hours! Some of us want to enjoy a nice quiet dinner and also catch some TV. Some of us have to do colon cleanse reviews!
The noise you guys are making are really getting on my nerves. And the amount of smoke being generated by the firecrackers is so foul that wifey had to close all our doors and windows. I'm not even going to mention about the screaming and unruly kids throwing all kinds of sparklers here and there. I wonder which house they might just burn down!
Come on you overly insensitive morons, I'm already getting really pissed and if by the time this post is done, you guys are not through, I am going to have some nasty words for you. Pebbles is so terrified by the noise that she's running around in fright every time a firecracker explodes. Even trying to carry her is not doing any good as she kicking and scratching me wanting to go hide somewhere.
She's really terrified and even tried hiding out in my laptop bag, the poor girl. Here she is trying to find cover in my bookshelf and you can just see the fear in her eyes, so much so that she doesn't even want to eat her favourite treats offered to her, which is really rare. Ah good, the morons have finally stopped! Peace at last.

Last Friday the Company I am working with hosted a Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House in Wetland Park in Putrajaya. Among the things that I love about this Company and my job are no.1 the great intellectual people that I work with (Bani not included) and no.2 the food. Lemme tell you a secret, food has always been no.1 but on that day we didn't have lamb.
I love that place in Wetland, they have nice manicured gardens and green-green fields that are even suitable for garden weddings or any other outdoor events. Provided YOU DON'T HAVE A KID LIKE MIKI?!!
That boy was really something! He chewed on some satay and tried to put the meat back on the stick. He ran all over the field like nobody's business. He made me take off the decorative tutupat (ketupat) from the canopy. Mocked every word that people say and FLIRTS WITH MY HOT BABE COLLEAGUES. No, I am not talking about Azman, its Miki! Grrrr… (Nasib baikkk)
Of course, Miki is actually behaving just like every other kid in the world, if my child happens to be in a playground or field but not playing, then I think I should be dead worrying. But I didn't say active couldn't make Mummy blush with embarrassment, ok!? Lucky my skin color is a few shades lighter than that arang kayu yang diorang guna buat satay haritu kalau tidakkkkk…. I was so malu okk?
Miki ran up the gazebo where my colleagues are singing karaoke AND START DANCING! Not once but so many times. I didn't know what to do?! If I ran after him on the stage habisla one hundred people among the guests can see my flat shoes!!! Its not like I am so vain but the last time I had a facial, all the trees in Wetland Park was still little seeds in the nutsery kottt!? So I resolved to using my theater-performing voice aka suara bak halilintar "Mikiiiiiiiiiiiiii.. Mariii sinii!!!" I was louder than the loud speaker uolss.
Then I realized that the CEO and all the VP's where just next to me. And staring at me. I walked backwards slowly, sat next to Azman and shoved nasi beriyani in my mouth continuously without stopping.
Here is Miki running up to join Bani singing "Madu dan Racun". I wanted to film Bani's performance and I DID NOT PLAN FOR MY KID TO GO UP RUNNING UP THE STAGE! See he was malu-malu in the beginning but from the chorus part on wards terpusing2 menari!
Actually it was kinda funny. One time we had the Company's Korean counterparts on stage singing Korean song with about 4-5 of our staff. They stood in a line like a choir and Miki without hesitating went up the stage and stood straight with hands clasped together next to the Korean lady facing the crowd dengan muka senyum-senyum. EEiii anak sapa la tuuu???

Salam to all & good day,

（But here is a case of

this evening onwards until friday afternoon, i will be away from office and home at a seaside holiday home – but no, i'm not on holiday (no such luck). it's work for me – being secretary to a week long AGM. i might not be able to access the internet, so there might not be any update in my blog for 5 days. hopefully i can piggy back to some free (unsecure) wi-fi, then can get on the net. even so i might have time to browse only, no time to blog. well i guess if i can't stand without internet, i'll have to use my PDA to browse with my mobile phone as modem… but this will cost me a bomb! what to do… if i'm that addicted. hehe.

BANGKOK – A highway billboard using a saluting to advertise a Thai wax museum has been covered up after complaints from the Israeli and German ambassadors, the museum's manager said Sunday.
"The idea came from a creative (advertising) agency, and we did not mean to cause any offense," said Somporn Naksuetrong, the manager of the Louis Tussaud's Waxworks in the seaside resort town of Pattaya.
The billboard, which insaid, "Hitler is not dead," had been up for several weeks on the main road from the capital to Pattaya and was meant to promote the museum's planned opening next month.
"We weren't showing his image to celebrate him," Somporn said in a telephone interview. "We think he is an important historical figure, but in a horrible way. We apologize for causing any offense which was not at all intended. We did not realize it would make people so angry."
The use of Nazi imagery does not stir the same emotional reaction in Asia as in the West, and Thailand has had past instances where icons of the genocidal German regime have been used for advertising and entertainment.
Thequoted German Ambassador Hanns Schumacher as saying he told officials in Pattaya, "this kind of utterly tasteless advertisement would hurt the feelings of many people" and asked that the billboard be taken down.
Israeli Ambassador Itzhak Shoham also was quoted saying he requested the same.
"It is totally unacceptable to have such a monster like Adolf Hitler on public display," he told the Post. "How this could happen is beyond my understanding and comprehension."
Neither diplomat could be reached Sunday for comment.
Two years ago, a Thai school apologized to an international Jewish human rights organization for its sponsorship of a celebration that involved a Nazi-themed parade for sports day. Photos from the event showed students with swastikas on their baseball caps behind a large sign with "NAZI" in shoulder-high letters.
In 1998, a commercial for potato chips depicted Hitler giving a Nazi salute and then showed a woman who cast a spell on him as he ate the chips, hoping to change his evil ways. A Nazi swastika morphed into the product logo as the transformation was complete.
The ad campaign by the Thai office of the U.S.-based agency was ended shortly after it began.
Also, a "Nazi Bar" opened in downtown Bangkok in the late 1980s, featuring photos of Nazi storm troopers and waiters wearing swastika armbands. The bar's manager said the theme had a "powerful, catchy and emotive appeal."
The bar changed its name to "No Name Bar" after bad publicity inBy AMBIKA AHUJA, Associated Press Writer and abroad.

i. Ahli mengundi
Cuba sogok 146,500 pengundi seluruh negara.
ii. Kuota kelayakan untuk bertanding

Hock Sheng, a classmate of mine, sits beside me in class was admitted into the hospital because of dengue fever. That's a little bit scary but it's not right not because he had already discharged from the hospital and is fully recovered.
Hock Sheng and Jin Jie.
Last Thursday, I and some classmate went to visit him at the hospital. I was thinking of going to see the newly built hospital at Macalister Road, but somehow, he was warded in the old wing of the hospital, so I got no chance to tour the new hospital building. Haha.
He was already OK when we went to visit him, can talk, can shout, can sing, can scream, can joke and was pretty well, just that the doctor wanted him to stayed for another night for monitoring.
I am not a fan of hospital. It's always give me a creepy feel and there's no pretty nurses. Haha. I wonder who likes hospital? Though, I like to watch medical drama like Grey's Anatomy and House.
Boys are always boys, we talked and played with anything that we can get our hands on in the room, the bed, the tv, etc.
Be healthy and don't fell sick is the best!

We did not make it to the Ipoh pasar tani (farmers market) after all last Saturday. The front left tyre of the car hit a deep pothole somewhere in Taman Shamelin a short while after we started our journey. Stupid Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) never bother patch up potholes on the road. There was an obvious swell on the tyre wall. We had to replace it for RM180. That was the second incident with potholes in Kuala Lumpur and the third time the car tyres had to be replaced.
The first time was just a few months after we got the car. It happened at Taman Shamelin just outside Taman Pudu Ulu. There were piles of granite rocks on the roadside for building the perimeter wall for the park. We were following a Toyota Unser. The MPV avoided a rock that was lying in the road. We did not see until it was too late. The tyre was punctured and deflated immediately.
Anyway, we reached Ipoh at 12.30pm, just in time for lunch to celebrate with my father-in-law's birthday. Before we left Ipoh, we bought some Gunung Rapat hiong piah and then went to Tambum for some pomelos. We left Ipoh at 3.45pm and had expected to reach home just in time for dinner at 6pm. Somewhere along the North-South Expressway (NSE), I saw the road sign indicating exit to Bidor and Teluk Intan.
I have been to Teluk Intan once with my parents a long time ago. It was known as Teluk Anson then. Since we started driving up to Ipoh and Penang, I had wanted to visit this town again but never had the time for it. So when I saw the sign, and there was still a lot of daylight left, I took the exit, thinking that we would drop by for a short while and still make back it in time for dinner.
Little did I realise that Teluk Intan is nowhere off the NSE. We had to drive 40km to 50km through Route 58 to reach the town. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the journey. Kampung houses and durian, rambutan and mangosteen trees lined the road. Then there was a long stretch with oil palm on both sides and nothing else.

When we reached Teluk Intan, the GPS device provided some confusing directions. We turned it off and circled around for a while before we found a place to park near the tower. The sky was gloomy. It had rained before we arrived. There were puddles on the road. The clock on the tower struck 6.15pm as I was getting out of the car. Canopies for the weekend market surrounded the tower. We did not have an unobstructed view for nice shots.
Traffic around the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan.
Under the canopies were stalls selling colourful jellies, meatballs on skewers, clothes, toys and other knickknacks. A foodcourt offering Malay food was just across the road. Traffic around the area was heavy. A signboard beside the tower provided a brief history and description of this famous landmark. The tower tilted to one side but did not look precarious. It certainly did not look like it would toppled over any time soon. The architecture has heavy Chinese influence as evident from the roof and balustrade.

We moved around the plaza where the tower sits on, checking out items on display at the stalls. It was humid. The sky was getting dark. We decided to leave although we would have loved to sample some of the local food. The road out to the NSE was long and narrow. I did not fancy driving along the unlit road in an unfamiliar place. Darkness came quickly nonetheless.

Halfway out, it was already pitch dark except for the headlights of vehicles and lights from the kampung houses. The GPS device acted up again. It showed that we were off the road but driving parallel to it. It was a great relief when we saw the toll plaza to the NSE. We reached Kuala Lumpur two hours later than we had anticipated. Although it was fun, I am not sure if we want to brave the long drive to Teluk Intan again.

I was introduced to a blog owned by an ex RMAF Nuri helicopter pilot Mej Nor Ibrahim Sulaiman (B) (http://xnuripilot.blogspot.com) recently. Having browse through some of his postings, I was caught by an email posted by an ex Nuri pilot Lt Col Chong Keng Lay (B) who argues that recipients of the Pingat Tentera Udara (PTU), a meritorious and gallantry award for bravery and valour for RMAF personnel, should also be receiving a similar allowance announced recently by the government for recipients of the PGB and the SP.
I do not know the reasons why recipients of the PTU are deprived of the allowance since both are awards for bravery and valour and has been gazette as such by the government. Or is the PTU considered of a lesser award for bravery and valour; hence they are deprived of the allowance?
Lt Col Chong Keng Lay (B) is a course mate of mine who took the greater challenge to be a pilot, and to discard his army uniform. He has flown me on many trips into the jungle operational areas, and I know the sort of person Lt Col Chong is. He is a strict disciplinarian, loyal to the service and had served the nation well. I do not see any reason why his award of the PTU is subservient to the PGB.
I hope the new Chief of Air Force should take a serious look into this matter, that not only affect Lt Col Chong, but to all other recipients as well.
