Pahang Artists Art Exhibition @ TV3

Pahang Artists Art Exhibition @ TV3

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 11:00 AM PDT

After almost a week from it's opening on 21st October 2009 that Pak Zawi managed to get to TV3's Sri Pentas to see the art exhibition by Pahang Artists. Since it was being organized by a fellow blogger Datin Mamasita of the famous blog Mamasita Mamamia, Pak Zawi felt compelled to attend the exhibition not only to lend support for her monumental effort but also to learn a thing or two about arts from the many works of the many fine artists of Pahang. I promised to attend the show on the previous day but a mini gathering of my classmates from the class of 1968 Sekolah Menenggah Sultan Ibrahim Pasir Mas at a friend's house somewhere in Ampang had consumed the better part of the afternoon leaving Pak Zawi with little time to visit the exhibition.
It was a blessing in disguise really as visiting the exhibition on Tuesday 27th. of October 2007 had better offerings than the previous day. For starters Datin Mamasita had promised that another fellow blogger such as Dato' Jaffar Lamri of Jaff Points and Puteri Kamaliah of Kata Kama would be attending too. I was anxious to meet Dato' Jaffar as my last meeting with him was the first meeting at Kinokuniya KLCC where Awang Goneng had his GUiT book signing which was almost two years ago. Puteri did not attend todays event for some reasons or other, afteral she had attended it earlier on the first day. Dato' Jaffar came to collect his precious Ayam Serama painting which he had purchased at his first visit on the opening day.
The early arrival for the afternoon are Pak Zawi and Dato Jaffar came shortly after. Here we posed for a photograph with Datin Mamasita being the organizer and one of the prominent artist from Pahang Osman Limat.

From left to right: Pak Zawi, Osman Limat, Dato' Jaff and Datin Mamasita.

The lobby of Sri Pentas where the exhibition was held.

Dato' Jaff was taking his duly wrapped Ayam Serama to the car when Pak Zawi insisted to see the painting which he willingly complied.

Such is the beauty of the painting of the pair of Ayam Serama which Dato' Jaff bought.

Another great piece at the exhibition was Melombong by Osman Limat or Pak Man as he is affectionately known.

Melombong carried a tag of RM15,000.00. It was later bought by The Malaysian Ambassador to the United States YB. Dato' Jamaluddin Jarjis.

Another exquisitly beautiful piece being displayed. Pak Zawi had requested another beauty from TV3 to pose beside it.

A bit later another great painter by the name of Yusof Gajah came with his wife Puan Zakiah. We adjourned to the cafeteria for some teh tarik. Pak Zawi made the most of the situation to learn a thing or two from the master himself whose single painting could fetch a whopping RM100,000.00. Pak Zawi would be more than happy to receive one hundredth of that for his own painting let alone RM100K!

Pak Zawi listening attentively from the master himself.

Datin Mamasita took care of Puan Zakiah, the wife of Pak Yusof Gajah. Puan Zakiah was the pillar of strength that supported Yusof Gajah's career as a painter. Read Mamasita's blog to learn more of her contribution to their success where Yusof Gajah had risen from the brink of failure.

The discussion between Dato' Jaff and Yusoff Gajah was so interesting that Pak Zawi had to bring himself closer to know what it was all about.

Dato' Arif Sabri of the popular Sopo blog Sakmongkol AK47 is Datin Mamasita's other half. Here he was seen to be holding court while Dato' Jaffar, Yussof Gajah and yours truly listened with interest. Dato' Sak as we affectionately called him was the man behind the exhibition as he was keen to help budding Pahang Artists to succeed.

My son Azrin who had been acting as Pak Zawi's photographer had a shot of himself with such luminaries as Dato' Jaff, Dato' Sak and Yusof Gajah.

At 5 PM we gathered at the entrance to the TV3 lobby to wait for the Bigspender in the form of the Malaysian Ambassador to the United States of America YB. Dato' Jamaludding Jarjis who happened to be a close friend of Dato' Sak as they had grown up together in Pekan. It was at the invitation of Dato' Sak that Dato' JJ came to the show. Such is the influence of Dato' Sak, the man with the AK47.

Dato' JJ shaking the hand of Osman Limat, the painter of Melombong

Datin Mamasita doing her level best to get Dato' JJ to buy as many paintings as possible. She must have suggested that Dato' JJ buy the most expensive one as a gift for President Obama himself.

Azrin's hand must have trembled so much having to photograph the Malaysian Ambassador with the guests that the camera shook. He was so awed by the moment that a few other guests and even his dad were left out of frame.

Before Pak Zawi left the premise of Sri Pentas, Mat Noor, the host of Jejak Rasul pass by and Pak Zawi asked for a photo with him which he and his friend obliged. Pak Zawi's wife is also an avid follower of Jejak Rasul.
Pak Zawi left Sri Pentas with a contented heart as on that day he had met so many fine artists from Pahang learnt so much from Yusof Gajah, another world reknowned artist from Pahang.
The next blog will be about another visit to a private Gallery of En. Hilmy Yusoff, the son of the famous artist from Kelantan, the late Yusoff Abdullah. Pak Zawi had the opportunity of a lifetime to be allowed to visit the private gallery which Pak Zawi did on the previous Saturday in Shah Alam, courtesy of another blogger Wan Asmadi aka Sangkelate.

Visit to mini recording studio at Starz Music Academy

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 09:30 AM PDT

Last Thursday, I went to visit my friends of the school's graduation team at the recording studio of Starz Music Academy at Hamilton Road. My school's is making a few piece of music to give along with the graduation magazine of my year, yes I am graduating high school in few weeks time, scared.

Thanks to the team for composing and writing the song and lyric for us. Because I am part of the graduation magazine team, so I get to see how their recording was.

Zhi Hong.

It's not what I expected, it's a small room with a recording vocal mic.

IMG_1716 by nicholaschan.

The other side of the room was just a small room too, with the computer for editing, mixer, speakers and keyboard. I thought it's like a professional recording studio with super pro microphone, lots of mixer and lots of screen. Perhaps recording is not their main job, it is a music school actually and do provides recording service.

'Pupils were jumping, playing on bridge before collapse'

KAMPAR, Tues: Between 30 and 50 pupils were on a newly built suspension bridge when it collapsed last night into the swift-flowing Kampar River at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang near here, causing one pupil to drown and two more are still missing.

A pupil, K. Mathivanan, 12, who held onto a rope and saved himself, said the bridge collapsed all of a sudden, about 10.30pm.

He said some of the pupils were crossing the bridge towards the school for their dinner, while others were returning to the campsite.

He said the bridge had swayed a lot before it collapsed as several of the pupils were jumping about and playing with one another.

"All of a sudden, we found ourselves thrown into the river. I managed to hold on to a rope. The current was swift but I managed to drag myself out of the water," he said.

Mathivanan said joy turned to panic as many of the pupils started screaming for help while others just cried.

He was one of the 298 pupils from 60 primary schools in Kampar, Tronoh and Batu Gajah who were to have begun a 1Malaysia Camp co-curriculum activity organised by the Kinta Selatan District Education Department there.

The bridge, above 50 metres long, was built about two weeks ago to replace an old one which had collapse, said a member of the school's Parent-Teacher Association.

The bridge links the campsite to the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang where dinner was held for the pupils.

A teacher, Mohd Safri Abdul Rafar, said he was not far from the bridge when it collapsed and quickly jumped over a fence and dived into the river in the attempt to rescue the pupils. -- Bernama

nizar najib altantuya: Teoh's family files exhumation application

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 08:51 AM PDT

UPDATED 5.05PM They want an exhumation so that a second post-mortem can be carried out by renowned Thai pathologist Pornthip Rojanasunand.

The application was made under Section 335 of the Criminal Procedure Code and filed by lawyer Gobind Singh at the Shah Alam Magistrates' Court registry at 3.35pm. The application was supported by an affidavit by Teoh's brother Meng Kee.

Gobind said that several questions had cropped up following Porntip's testimony last week, especially on matters relating to injuries to Teoh's neck and anus, adding that only a fresh post-mortem could clear all doubts relating to Teoh's death.

Yes, 80% likelihood that Teoh was strangled and sodomised to death! Click here to read 'Teoh Beng Hock - most likely sodomised and murdered!' at *SUSAN LOONE's Blog*.

Race Me

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 07:58 AM PDT

Race is not an issue where love is concerned – that is the stand of sexy Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova.

"(Malaysian men are) very cute but at the end of the day, it is all about the person and it has nothing to do with the race," she said when asked what she thought of Malaysian blokes at the launching of the Showdown of Champions 2009 – The Grand Slam here yesterday

The Star, 27/10/09

Why must there be questions about race in the first place?

Malaysian reporters always ask the most stupid questions, don't they?

I have often wondered why the forms in our country, be it government agencies' forms or otherwise, must have a column for race at all. There have been occassions when I felt very embarrassed when a foreign client wondered what they are supposed to write in that column.

A Bangladeshi client filled up his as 'Sunni'. A Canadian Turk wrote 'Caucasian'.

Neither one of those are actually a race in the strictest sense, but I suppose in their countries, Sunnis and Shiites do differ in terms of culture and practice, and clashes between them are always referred to as a race issue.

Still, they, as did I, wondered why they have to write that at all.

Can't we just do things without putting race in the mix, for once?

I am reminded of a commercial, I think it was one of the late Yasmin Ahmad's, where a boy was asked what was the race of his friend.

He asked, What's a 'race'? You mean, 'race car", ah?"

Smart boy.

'MACC arrests former top civil servant for graft' reports The Malaysian Insider, Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Is the top civil servant a former KSU of a ministry? And who could that person be? The answer will only be known in the next few hours from now, when he will be brought before the Shah Alam High Court to face the charges..

Will this be the beginning of a massive clean up of all government ministries, especially following the findings of irregularities and misappropriation of public funds that was revealed in the recent Auditor General's report? Would one believe that a laptop computer was purchased at RM40,000 a piece? This is just one example revealed in the report that does not make any sense.

But more importantly, will the authorities be willing to take punitive action on those responsible, or will it be another NFA? From what was observed on all previous Auditor General's reports, it will most probably be another NFA, because there will be too many people involved if the matter is being fully investigated. It is not surprising that the investigation may even lead right up the top echelon of government.

The Defence Ministry certainly is no exception, as huge amount of public funds are being utlised every year. In all probability, it is not the Armed Forces personnel alone that is mired in corruption, but they have to be working together with their civilian cohorts. I am told that officers of the Procurement Division (Bahagian Perolehan), need to be monitored closely, as they are the ones most likely to succumb to corrupt practice. Companies who are victims of corrupt officers would not normally want to launch a report, because they fear that they will be victimised for subsequent submission of tenders.

I have been told of a tailoring company that has a 'contract in perpetuity' with the Defence Ministry to provide the Armed Forces with tailoring services. The company has now ventured into other businesses as well, one of which is the bidding for bullet resistance vest for the army, while there is already a local company involved in the manufacture of the said equipment. With strong and firm 'cables' within the ministry, I am quite sure other likely competitors will be eliminated easily. And mind you, this tailoring company does not even have the facility to manufacture locally the equipment. One need also ask who else works for the company, where businesses from the ministry can just flow in easily. Officers of the Armed Forces knows this too well, but are just to afraid to speak out.

I am quite sure by now, the Minister, Dato Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is able to judge for himself the ongoings that is awfully wrong within the ministry. I trust the minister is bold enough to put a check to this, and if need be to 'throw the books' on those found guilty of any wrong doing........however trivial.

Seriously, I no longer have any faith left in the present leaders of the Armed Forces to do the checking, for they are themselves to be checked. And with the 'Whistle Blowers Act' to be proposed by the government, will this be a sure means of checking corruption in government? The answer is yet to be known.

Era Najib Altantuya : Langkah Terakhir TGNA Selamatkan PAS

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 06:35 AM PDT

"Tenggelam-tenggelam, timbul, kemudian dihidupkan.

-Amin Iskandar

Era Najib Altantuya : Keluarga Teoh Fail Permohonan Gali Kubur Mendiang

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 05:41 AM PDT

1Malaysia Disaster and Tragedy

Posted: 27 Oct 2009 04:19 AM PDT

Another 1 Malaysia project screw up. Who is the contractor responsible for the building of the bridge? I bet must be an UMNO crony. I wonder if any action will be taken or just swept under the carpet as a "technical matter" whilst corruption goes on unabated. Its time to take the Auditor General's report seriously. I pity the gutless groveling souls who decided to call this school excursion "1Malaysia Camp" just to bodek Najib's evil regime... and in so doing inviting the same disaster and misfortune that will befall a nation so utterly lacking in the rudiments of integrity and humanity.

1Malaysia camp: 1 drown, 2 missing after bridge collapses

One pupil drowned and two others are feared missing after a newly-built suspension bridge collapsed into the Kampar River as pupils participating in a 1Malaysia camp were walking across at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang near Kampar last night. About 20 pupils managed to hold on to the ropes of the collapsed bridge and saved themselves while several others were pulled out of the swift-flowing river by a teacher and a guard of the school in the incident at about 10.30pm.

Nineteen other pupils feared missing at first had been accounted for and were safe, police said. The accident happened after 298 pupils from 60 primary schools in Kampar, Tronoh and Batu Gajah had arrived to participate in a 1Malaysia camp organised by the Kinta Selatan District Education Department. Perak deputy chief police officer Zakaria Yusof said the body of the drowned pupil, identified as Dina Deve Nathan, was recovered at 8.30am and had been sent to the Kampar Hospital.

They had come yesterday for the registration and were walking across the bridge from the campsite to the school to have their dinner when the accident happened. The search and rescue operation involves 222 personnel led by the police, with assistance from the General Operations Force, navy, fire and rescue department, People's Volunteer Corps (Rela), Civil Defence Department and other agencies. In a related development, Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that a team will be formed by the ministry to probe the accident.

He said the team will be headed by the Education Ministry director-general Ali Muddin Md Dom. Meanwhile over at the Parliament, DAP's Ipoh Barat MP M Kula Segaran has also filed an emergency motion in the Dewan Rakyat to debate on the fatal accident.

Parents outraged

Parents of the pupils rushed to the school upon hearing news of the accident, and several of them became angry when they could not confirm the safety of their children even as late as 3am. Malaysiakini

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former secretary-general of a ministry for alleged graft involving a project worth more than RM10mil.

They said MACC had been investigating the man from early this year and was also expected to slap him with no less then eight charges under the MACC Act.

A MACC statement later confirmed the deatils and said that he would be charged in Shah Alam.

I believe at that time, most of the Malaysian bloggers were still in their coach, on the road coming to Singapore and hotel is only available for check-in at two, so we went to drop our luggage at the hotel that my parents were staying in Bugis first, it's easier as we need not travel to so many places with the luggage.

Ibis Hotel was the hotel that my parents stayed in and it's quite new and modern-looking. If were to compare to Link Hotel that I stayed, I like this more because of the location but somehow both are considered as budget hotel with rate at around 140S$ which consider low price already.

Hungry, we were, when we arrived there. We didn't get to check-in the hotel too, but they helped us to keep the luggage. Then, we went walking to Bugis area to look for food.

One of the flat at the area. It's still the old fashion way, hanging washed clothing outside the window. Sometimes, it's funny to see undergarment hanging out there, and try to imagine when you walk below, a bra or pantie fall of when wind blew. LOL!

Passed by some of the temple that I've never been to before. Although I did go to Bugis before, but it's always Bugis Junction and Bugis Street Market.

Had our brunch at a noodle house then we went window shopping.

Went in a new mall in town, Iluma and the interior of it looks very cool. The place looks young but didn't buy anything at there.

We then went back to my parents' hotel, checked-in, got our luggage, I and Alvin then took the cab to Link Hotel, which is the hotel sponsored by Nuffnang. The cab driver didn't really know about the Link Hotel and needed some guide from me and the GPS. OMG.

Next stop: Link Hotel, Outram Park and Vivo City.

Here's another photo of me at Bugis Junction. This was on the Saturday where I joined the Bloggers Tour by Uniquely Singapore and Nuffnang, there's a short stop at Bugis but we didn't take many photos because we were just there the day before!

I FIRST received this piece of information on my handphone early this morning. And my heart cries. I sincerely pray that the affected families will find comfort. I also sincerely hope that those in authorities - in this case teachers - will be extra careful when taking care of our younger generation. We pray...

KAMPAR, Tues: Between 30 and 50 pupils were on a newly built suspension bridge (photo) when it collapsed last night into the swift-flowing Kampar River at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang near here, causing one pupil to drown and two more are still missing.

MORE

-Abdul A

A Month In Hong Kong

Posted: 26 Oct 2009 11:51 PM PDT

It's approaching my first month here in Hong Kong (HKG). I am not totally familiar as yet but today I am going to share a bit of the place where I am currently staying, my client's office and perhaps some tips if you are visiting HKG anytime soon.

Hong Kong is split into 3 areas; New Territories, Kowloon & Hong Kong Island. The name of the place that I am staying is Tung Chung which falls under the area of New Territories. So I will not indulge further on other areas as I am not that familiar as yet. Tung Chung is the city that is the nearest to HKG International Airport.

From the airport, one can take buses numbering S1 or S56 to get to Tung Chung MTR station. The cost is HKD3.50 which is approximately RM1.30 if I were to treat the rate of Ringgit half of the HKG Dollar. Tung Chung will be the last station on the most West side of the line. The subway services here are pretty easy, not as complicated as I first thought when I saw the MTR mapping.

Most of the time when I mentioned the name of the place, many of my friends would not know where is it. Therefore for easier understanding, normally I will tell them that I am one station away from Disneyland station which Sunny Bay.

So for the past 3 weeks or so, I only had the privilege to loiter around this small airport city. It took me approximately close to 40 minutes HKD18 to get to Central Hong Kong from Tung Chung plus my client's office is in fact in the HKIA itself so I need not travel that much actually.

Tung Chung from my observation is like Mon't Kiara or Bangsar in Malaysia because I can see many expats here, and most of the airlines stewardesses, stewards & pilots will stay around this area. There is nothing much to shout about here and the main attraction here would be the Ngong Ping 360, where there is this cable car bring you up a hill to see the big Buddha & Po Lin Monastery.

And for shopping, I had earlier mentioned about Citygate Outlets where it housed all the factory and warehouse outlets here. If you would like to know more, please check it out here. There ain't much to shout on the food though, most of the time I will just dine in the neighborhood cafeteria or in Cantonese, they normally call it "Char Chan Teng", just like Wong Kok Char Chan Teng (WKCCT) in Malaysia except that the food in WKCCT is crap food, con Malaysian food. Any cafeterias here that you go put them to shame really. Average cost per set meal here would be in the region of HKD28-40. Set meal meaning one main dish and one drink.

Hong Kong is a bit similar like Singapore, the people here do not have the privilege to live in a large house or landed property. You gonna be a multi billionaire if you wanna own a landed property here. So obviously myself, I am staying in an apartment as well. Yes it is an apartment and not a condo and see for yourself the apartment here is higher grade than the condo we have in Malaysia. The name of the neighborhood that I am staying is Caribbean Coast. I do not bother to count the number of blocks but there are many blocks and each blocks are made up with 65 floors. Crazy huh?

And if you think you gotta be a billionaire to own a landed property here, then to own an apartment here you better gotta be a millionaire. I am talking bout the billions & millions in Ringgit point of view. Guess how much the apartment I am currently staying now? A mere 800sqft with the current market rate in HKG, it's about HKD2Mil, that is approximately RM1Mil. A simple calculation, it's a whopping RM1,250 per -square-blardy-feet.

And in HKG, I smoke lesser than I do back home. Over here, there is dedicated, designated area for smokers unless you wanna be fined HKD5k you can opt to smoke anywhere you like.

Hmm... the weather around this time is cloudy and it can be pretty windy at night. If you plan to come around this time, do remember your cardigan & wind-breaker.

Until then, more update soon!

ps: Damn! I forgot to remind you guys to get an Octopus Card, it is a must! Don't ask me why, you will need it!
