Bajet 2010 Pahang, Kerajaan Negeri Harus Belajar Menerima Kesalahan

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 09:36 AM PST

Pemimpin PR Selar UMNO Pendekkan Penggantungan Ahmad Ismail

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 09:09 AM PST

-TVS

WEEKEND VIEW: Sharizat and Rodziah on International Disabled Day

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 08:00 AM PST

LAST week was truly a fantabulous week.
The world celebrated the United Nations-sponsored International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3rd as usual – and so did we in Malaysia.

I was most privileged to be at two great local events to commemorate the occasion.

The first was last Saturday with nearly 3000 people, scores of them in wheelchairs and white canes in Kuala Lumpur.

The event, put together by the Women, Family and Community Development Minister not only included a spirited speech by Minister Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil but also a full day carnival on disability.

Visitors could enjoy some of the exciting competitive games as well as learn about the latest services available for the disabled and the good work done by various NGOs to help them.

Although much more modest in size but not to be outdone in any way, more than 200-people gathered at the e@Curve Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya sponsored by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) on the actual day of IDPD last Thursday.

The occasion was opened by Selangor State Welfare, Women Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee Chairman Rodziah Ismail who equally delivered an impassioned speech on disability in Malaysia.

What I thought was particularly spot-on about this year's events were several points made in both of the politicians' speeches that indicate that they not only had listened closely to the voice of the handicapped in Malaysia but also most sincerely had their interests at heart.

1. Disabled need jobs: YB Rodziah said it was high-time that all sectors in society, the private as well as the government go all out to employ the handicapped in the workforce. To do this there must be a deep and sincere sense of commitment from all parties, she added, pointing out that councils like MBPJ and others start filling up the one percent quota in employing the disabled as a start.
On her part, Datuk Seri Shahrizat said that each disabled person should be seen as people with abilities and talents by everyone – not their handicapping conditions – and what they are able to contribute towards society.
2. Time for local councils to get serious: Datuk Seri Sharizat questioned the lackadaisical attitude of local councils throughout the country for not implementing disabled-friendly access at their levels even though the By Laws have been gazetted since the early 1980s. Although it won't be necessarily an easy task, the Minister promised to check on local councils and make sure that they create disabled-friendly town and cities so that the handicapped throughout Malaysia can got to work, study in schools etc in order to become equal citizens with Malaysians without disabilities. YB Rodziah said that for a start she will get each local council in Selangor to set up a special disability team that meets at least once-a- month to ensure that disability access is top on the agenda of the various local authorities.
3. Mindset Change – disability is everyone's concern: Datuk Seri Sharizat reminded all decision-makers about the importance of including disabled people in their committees, especially in matters involving them. They are in the best situation to give useful input about their lives and needs, she said. YB Rodziah solemnly pointed out to the non disabled community to be mindful that planning for the disabled and elderly is prudent as we may all become disabled one day through accidents, disease or old age.

One of the striking highlights at both the IDPD events was the fact that people with learning disabilities – who often get the least notice among the disabled category – was honoured with special awards during the celebrations.

The MBPJ event, through help from the Dyslexia Association of Malaysia, honoured children in PJ who successfully completed their year six exams. They also gave a special recognition to young adults with learning difficulties who held jobs as laundry workers.

As wonderful as both the celebrations were, there was still room for further improvements for future IDPD events.

Here is some of the feedback I received:

1. Let's have some disabled speakers instead of only the able-bodied giving speeches as the day is really for the disabled.
2. Please cut down on able-bodied performers no matter how popular they may be and give disabled undiscovered artistes to showcase their talents. (And please pay them for their services instead of expecting them to do it for free.)
3. Kindly give front seats to the disabled and let the VIPs sit behind the disabled instead for IDPD. Also can we do away with VIP-eating areas, please and mix VIPs with the rest of the disabled so that the VIPs can get a better chance to meet disabled people and even take pictures with them which will be a terrific lifetime memory for the handicapped in their photo albums.

The End

Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis) -- MedicineNet.com

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 08:32 AM PST

Bacterial pink eye

Staphylococci and Streptococci, among others, are types of bacteria that commonly cause pink eye. Symptoms of bacterial pink eye include

  • eye pain,

  • swelling,

  • redness, and

  • a moderate to large amount of discharge, usually yellow or greenish in color.

The discharge commonly accumulates after sleeping. Affected children may awaken most unhappy that their "eyes are stuck shut," requiring a warm washcloth applied to the eyes to remove the discharge. Bacterial pink eye is treated by repeated warm washcloths applied to the eyes (try applying these to your child's eye one eye at a time during a favorite video) and requires antibiotic eyedrops or ointment prescribed by the doctor.

Picture of Pink Eye or Conjunctivitis
What does pink eye look like?

Be careful not to use medication prescribed for someone else, or from an old infection, as these may be inappropriate for your current infection or may have been contaminated from other infections by accidentally touching the medicine bottle to infected areas. A safe, effective, and potentially less frightening method of putting drops into the eyes involves asking your child to lie down flat, with instructions to merely "close your eyes," and placing the recommended number of drops in the inner corner of the eye, next to the bridge of the nose, and letting them make a little "lake" there. When your child relaxes and opens the eyes, the medicine will flow gently into the infected mucous membranes without the need to "force open" the eyes.

When you feel that you or your child might have bacterial pink eye, it is very important to see your doctor immediately for several reasons. First, if the cause is a bacterial infection, an antibiotic will be needed to help the infection-fighting immune system to kill this infection. Secondly, if you are experiencing other symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, earache, etc., there is a good chance that these symptoms are caused by the same bacteria, and an oral antibiotic may also be needed to treat this infection along with the antibiotic drops or ointment for the eyes. Finally, your doctor will want to exclude the possibility that the infection has spread to areas where the symptoms may not yet be recognizable.

Chlamydia pink eye

Pink eye due to infection with Chlamydia is an uncommon form of bacterial pink eye in the U.S., but it is very common in Africa and Middle Eastern countries. Chlamydia can cause pink eye in adults and neonates. It is a cause of pink eye in adolescents and adults that can be sexually transmitted. Chlamydia pink eye is typically treated with erythromycin (E-Mycin, Eryc, Ery-Tab, PCE, Pediazole, Ilosone) or oral tetracycline (Sumycin), except in children less than 8 years of age, because of possible discoloration of the teeth.

Nizar decries delayed justice - nizar nizar nizar

Ousted Perak menteri besar hits out at 'deliberate' stalling of decision over his status as head of the state.

Ousted Perak menteri besar Nizar Jamaluddin bemoaned the state of the judiciary after the Federal Court delayed its decision for six and a half months and denied him the maximum panel of judges for his lawsuit.

He added that the "deliberate" delay of a decision of his status as the rightful menteri besar is cause for speculation and alleged that "various inconsistencies" point to "hidden hands" influencing decisions made about his case.

He said that he would like to see a rule of law being implemented in this state and in this country but he realised that it was not happening.

Sibu In The Blue Ocean - Part 31

Innovation is the gist of Blue Ocean Strategy. In an uncontested environment, we outperform by being creative. Slashing against each other is really an outdated strategy.

It similarly applies to education. Tan Kee Hian formulated " Polytechnic" University as one of the five Blue Ocean Strategies aiming to take Sibu to the next developmental cycle.

Tan Kee Hian's Strategy (3) for "Polytechnic" University is as follows:

Initial faculties include:
-Faculty of Business Administration
-Faculty of Applied Sciences
-Faculty of Technology

Candidates for Multi-disciplinary Centres for Development and Applications include:
-Institute of Active Ageing
-Institute of Agri-business
-Institute of Tourism and Hospitality
-Institute of Entrepreneurship

Shopping for schooling needs – Round 1

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 05:47 AM PST

I had promised Sofie I'd be coming around 3 pm to bring her kids shop for their schooling needs. I actually reached their house at 3 pm sharp, only to see that there were 3 other people around and they were about to have lunch. Lunch? At 3 pm? Waaa… so late! Ika and Azman came out to help carry down some groceries from my car. Even Saiful came out, in his kain pelekat (he was just circumcised last week).

The other 3 people whom I had not met before were Sofie's sister, brother-in-law and niece who came all the way from up north to visit Sofie.

Today's visit exposed me to another thing about their family. Remember the older sister who Sofie had been staying with before this? Well, apparently Sofie wasn't the only one who couldn't really get along with that sister. This other sister couldn't either due to the older sister's mulut laser.

Although Sofie's nephew (the older sister's son) was the one that prompted Sofie to move out of the sister's house; the sister actually preferred Sofie to stay with her so that she and her family could 'tumpang sekaki' whatever assistance Sofie got. She particularly knew about the assistance we Buddies had been giving Sofie. After Sofie moved out of the house, the sister started telling her other siblings that Sofie never gave her a single sen (in actual fact, whenever Sofie got any assistance from us, she'd share with her sister's family). Now, even worse still, the sister had been telling the kampong folks that Sofie has HIV. As a result, Sofie stays inside her house most of the time, not wanting to show her face outside.

Sofie is now looking for another house – if possible she wants to move to another house in another taman – away from the present kampong where she stays.

As we were chatting, the older sister came (her house is within the same kampong). When she saw me, she started talking about her children not having any new clothes etc. I played dumb – an expertise I've been born with. :-)

Anyway, back to the purpose of my visit today - after about half an hour or so, they were finally ready to go out shopping. I was pleased to note that Sofie herself wanted to join us. Before this, due to her health, whenever I wanted to bring her children out anywhere, she never followed as she was too weak. Imagine the satisfaction I got upon seeing the improvement in the life of the lady whom I had been giving support to. Who says voluntary work doesn't pay?

We were very lucky today… not only did we manage to get a car park under the shade, it was also right in front of the supermarket's entrance! And the schooling needs too were placed right after the entrance. So, we didn't have to worry about Sofie, or even Saiful (for today we called him the budak dalam pantang), having to walk too far.

Getting the uniforms and shoes weren't too bad. But when it came to the school bags and stationeries section, Ika, the youngest girl, went rambang mata! Her 2 older siblings seemed very responsible though… they told their younger siblings that certain stationeries like pencils, erasers, pens, etc would be cheaper if bought in one pack and shared amongst the 4 of them. If it was up to Ika, she'd want one of everything to herself!

The total amount spent for the 4 of them today? RM587-85. Definitely an amount Sofie wouldn't be able to afford to if it was up to her. Oh, her older sister's gonna be so jealous if she hears about this…

I had initially wanted to bring them for minum-minum after shopping, but due to Ika's 'rambang mata'ness, we finished rather late. So I just sent them home. As we brought the things down from my car, Sofie's sister (the one visiting from up north) and her husband, who were still around, said, "Terima kasihlah kak, tolong tengok-tengokkan dia orang ni. Harapkan kami, kami pun cukup makan je."

Well, that's one round of shopping done. Next round will be on Monday – for Yati's children…

Born Rich

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 06:50 AM PST

I had just finished episode 38, I was made to know that some of my friends are chasing it back in Malaysia, buying those DVD. It is really quite addictive and I have the privilege to watch this in HD here. More & more people died, not much suspense expected for the final episode this Sunday.

But overall it is quite a good drama, oh ya, it was called "富貴門" or in English it's called "Born Rich". Though the ending will be very much as per my prediction, I will still watch it this Sunday. TVB never fail to capture its audience through its dramas.

In meantime, enjoy the closing theme song by Gallen Lo.

Sleeping early tonight as I will be going to Cheung Chau tomorrow with Josie & Nick. A weekend breakaway from the busy city.

Ciaoz!

Nazim Razak: I've nothing to say - najib altantuya nizar nizar nizar nizar nizar

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 05:45 AM PST

UPDATED 7.45PM Just like his elder brother who dismissed private eye P Balasubramaniam's allegations as 'frivolous', Nazim also offers a brief and curt response.

After a series of unsuccessful attempts to get in touch with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's brother over the allegations raised by private investigator P Balasubramaniam, Malaysiakini had a little dose of luck this afternoon.

NONEOur journalists bumped into Nazim (in white shirt) at Masjid Negara in Kuala Lumpur, where he had gone to attend the Friday prayers.

The architect was visiting the grave of his father, second prime minister Abdul Razak, when approached.

Just like his elder brother who dismissed the serious allegations with two words 'frivolous statements', a startled-looking Nazim also offered a curt response.

When asked to comment on Balasubramaniam's allegation that he had met the second youngest of the five Razak brothers at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya, Nazim replied with a stern "I have nothing to say" before walking away.

Nazri Ayam Sabung UMNO - Mahfuz

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 04:29 AM PST

-TVS

DAPSY PP Pertikai Tindakan Pulihkan Penggantungan Ahmad Ismail

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 04:25 AM PST

-TVS

'Keling' - they helped make this country great

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 02:47 AM PST

By Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Idris Hassan. I refer to the Malaysiakini report Of noisy Indians and 'keling' blood: Utusan strikes again. The attacking of fellow Malaysians by the mainstream media Utusan Malaysia because of their race is unwarranted and most uncalled for. I remember in the late forties when I was a little boy living in my hometown of Raub, Pahang.

I used to pass road gangs of Tamil labourers toiling in the midday's scorching sun from dawn till dusk. Armed with only picks and shovels, they would be hacking at solid rocks to carve out roads along the mountain side.

They had no proper attire, just a withered white towel tied in turban form on their heads. They would wrap rags around their spindly legs to prevent the hot molten tar from scalding them as they went about their chores.

Yet they had time to smile and wave at passing cars. They used to be referred to as 'coolies' and their slave-like living quarters as coolie lines. My late father used to tell us that most of the roads in Malaya at the turn of the century were built solely by Indian labour.

They toiled in the malaria-infested rubber estates, living with their families in filthy inhuman conditions. The white 'tuan' treated them like slaves and allowed them to indulge in drinking toddy to forget their woes .

Yet again it was the same coolies called 'toties' who serviced our bucket system latrines until the early sixties as there were no takers for this job from the other races. I have seen for myself these 'toties' cleaning the rubber tubs at a stream not far from my house with their bare hands.

In short, when there was any dirty, menial job to be done, it was this Tamil coolie, then often called by the derogatory term 'keling', that did it for us.

Now times have changed and their offsprings have made much progress in all fields and want to take their rightful place in our society .Let's not pour scorn on them and laugh away their pride.

As a soldier I know that many of my Indian/Tamil friends who fought and died for this country . They all are a part of those who stood by us during the good and bad times, they have helped make this country great.

A country which rightfully belongs to all Malaysians.Malaysiakini

Rakyat Kutuk Tindakan Menukarkan Hakim-hakim

Posted: 11 Dec 2009 01:02 AM PST

Mengapa Sulitkan Orang Nak Kahwin?

Nik Aziz Bimbang Kenaikan Mas Kahwin Tambah Bilangan Anak Dara Tua
BERNAMA

[HR Imam Bukhari]

Hadis riwayat Sahal bin Sa`ad ra., ia berkata:
Rasulullah saw. bertanya: Apakah kamu memiliki sesuatu?
