A Hellish Ride To and Fro Ipoh with Delicious Food in Singapore

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 08:03 AM PST

Try your best to avoid taking rides from this company or the other called Cepat Express. Gawd.. You could seriously get yourself killed while travelling. On my journey up to Ipoh last week, I took the Cepat Express bus. Bus supposed to take off at 8.30p.m but it got delayed without any notice until 9.45p.m. Along the journey, it make many stops and this caused me to arrive Ipoh at 3.45 a.m. Seriously wtf!

The journey back was even worst than going up. At first, got tickets from KKKL counter in Ipoh which says they're making trips from Ipoh to Malacca. But on that day, they divert us to another bus company called AB Express. This is a huge WTF! It's a scam! I'm fine with the changes if the bus is in good condition and I arrive safely. But, what the hell.. after an hour journey, the bus broke down out of nowhere and I got stuck in the middle of the highway for 3 freaking hours because those idiots had to send a bus from KL instead of getting buses from other stations.

Got fed up with excuses and I called the company and give them a piece of my mind. The bus came and the journey back was totally horrible. Couldn't sleep at all. That driver was speeding at 110-120 km/h, overshot few red lights, sped while cornering.. I could get myself killed that day. He make a 4 hours journey from Ipoh to Malacca into 2 hours. Great... That's why Malaysia public transport sucked badly. Puspakom officers around bus stations are just smoking their pipes off instead of checking the buses. No credibility, accountability, efficiency.. totally zero... Glad that there's now train to Ipoh..

As for Singapore.. I begin to think that there's more delicious, clean and cheap food there than in Malaysia..

This is a must try! Visit Boon Keng Restaurant.. Best Hainanese chicken rice.. Syok giler...

'Umno-linked contractors to blame'

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 08:47 AM PST

A Terengganu-based NGO says cosy ties between politicians and contractors have led to shoddy work on several new buildings in the state.

Majlis Permuafakatan Rakyat Terengganu (Mampat) blamed Umno-linked contractors for shoddy work on several new buildings in the state that have come to grief and its president Mohamad Fauzi Abdullah called these contractors OKU or Orang Kuat Umno (Umno supporters) when he was asked to comment on the collapse of the roof of the RM4.2 million bus terminal in Kuala Berang yesterday.

The Prodigal Son

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 08:06 AM PST

You know, I've been finding it real hard to get into the Christmas spirit. Slowly but surely I was succeeding in find a little of that lost spirit but this evening I heard something from my mom that kinda made me lose whatever little spirit I had found.

There I was in the midst of cooking my dinner when all of a sudden my mom comes into the kitchen and tell me she and my cousins were in Klang (a township not far away from where I live) and they happen to see my uncle walking on the streets going god knows where. Now that sounds normal enough, right?

Well, she then told me that he was wearing a torn t-shirt and a pants that was also torn but patched up in so many places that he resembled a beggar! They were shocked to say the least and they stopped to ask him where he was going. They were seriously taken aback by his outlook.

I'm getting a little too ahead of myself. Let me back track a little so you'll get a clearer picture of all this. Some of you, my long time readers would probably remember that I spoke about a cousin of my who delved into the world of drug addiction.

This guy is the only son of my uncle. He's been in and out of this drug business and I thought he finally got his act together. The last I heard, which was quite a while back, was that he was working in a hypermarket or something. Well, good for him, I thought. At least it'll lift the burden his parents has to shoulder. At least he's being responsible again. And by the way, he in his 30's.

Back to present day story. They stopped and asked him where he was going and why was he walking by the main road in the middle of the day. I don't really remember where my mom said he was going but that he didn't have money to take a bus! I felt my heart drop at those words.

Didn't have the money to take a bus? My god! My mom and my cousins asked him what happened to his son? How come he isn't taking care of you. That's when he told them that the useless bum quit his job and just sits at home and expects him (the father) to magically get money!

he looked kinda pale and weak and they asked him if he had eaten and he said no. So they took him and bought him some food. One of my other cousins wanted to go over to his house and bash up my useless bum of a cousin for being such a jerk and making his dad, which is close to 60 plus if I'm not wrong work while he sits at home shaking his legs! Unfortunately (or fortunately) he wasn't in.

The way she described how my uncle was dressed, with a torn t-shirt and pants, walking like a vagrant in the streets made me feel so awful. I mean I grew up and stayed with this uncle for god knows how many years and to know the condition he is in makes me sick to the core. The last I saw him, which was quite a while back, things looked fine.

I really don't know the entire story of why my cousin quit his job but knowing him, he's just too bloody lazy and is probably back into his drug taking ways. I really do not understand him. Everyone has tried their best to help him overcome his drug ways and help him get back on his feet and at one time he was doing good.

He had a job and had dreams and ambitions. Got married, had a kid, wanted to get a car but now suddenly he's back to square one. And he's the only child at that. How can he even put his dad through such hardship, god alone knows. I wonder what went wrong. Maybe I should recommend him some Philadelphia jobs.

I'm not rich and cannot give my mom a lot of things but at least I make sure she has a house to stay in and food to eat and not worry about having to pay rental and stuff like that. His dad is old and sickly and now works as a security guard in a church and not getting much and he has to pay the house rent, utilities and whatnots. How can someone deteriorate so much? How can someone even do something like that to ones own parents?

I was cooking a nice dinner for myself when my mom told me this and after hearing the story, I lost my appetite. There I was going to stuff my face with something nice and my uncle probably doesn't have enough money to even have a decent meal! What a Christmas it's going to be for him. And his wife (my aunty) well, she's another story altogether!

Whatever Christmas spirit I managed to find went down the drain again. Siggghhh ... Gee, I've been posting nothing but depressing posts the past couple of weeks. If I keep this up, I'll probably get the most depressing blog award soon. But then, with the way things are, how do I even post something cheerful?

Peralatan Tentera Lesap, Cermin Kepimpinan BN

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 06:55 AM PST

Kedua-duanta memberikan gambaran berkenaan Najib,"katanya Ahli Parlimen Bukit Gantang, Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin.

Agensi berita AFP melaporkan peralatan tentera bernilai jutaan ringgit dipercayai telah dijual ke pasaran gelap.

Peguam Negara Abdul Gani Patail berkata kecurian dua enjin pesawat tempur F-5E TUDM baru-baru ini dipercayai berlaku pada 1 November 2007.

Dibawa keluar dari Skuadron ke-12 Butterworth, dua enjin terbabit dipercayai hilang ketika menunggu giliran untuk diselenggarakan di Pengkalan Udara TUDM Sungai Besi.

Namun kecurian ini hanya disedari pada Mei 2008. Laporan polis hanya dibuat tiga bulan kemudian.

Che Det threatens to sue Mkini, Kit Siang and Wain

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 07:06 AM PST

UPDATED 10PM The former premier has 'reserved the right' to sue author Barry Wain, opposition leader Lim Kit Siang and online news daily Malaysiakini for defamation.

In his latest posting, Dr M has welcomed Lim Kit Siang's proposal for Najib to set up a royal commission on whether I burned RM100 billion on grandiose projects and corruption during my 22-year reign.

He said that
such a commission should not be made up of Government nominees but should have as members impeccable people including foreigners and members of Transparency International.

Also, Mahathir mentioned that the commission should not confine to one Prime Minister only but to Tun Abdullah Badawi's regime.

I had on three occasions ( August 30, 2008, March 30, 2009 and May 23, 2009) posted articles relating to Tourism Malaysia's Director General Dato Mirza Muhammad Taiyab corruption charges, in which he was alleged to have accepted settlement for his dental treatment costing RM13,000, and of which the court's acquitted him of all charges.

I was somewhat surprised to hear that the Kuala Lumpur High Court had recently allowed MACC to appeal against Dato Mirza's acquittal, and is thereby likely to drag the latter once again through a prolong and treacherous trial.

I think Dato Mirza has suffered enough through his previous trial, that saw the admittance of the owner of the dental clinic that Dato Mirza had no knowledge as to who actually paid for his dental treatment.

I do not understand the basis of MACC's appeal, but I believe there is a 'hidden hand' behind this case that wants Dato Mirza silence, and that he be found guilty as charged. I also cannot understand MACC's persistence over a case involving a mere RM13,000, whereas there are other bigger cases that requires serious attention that costs millions. I am just curious to know if the MACC have started serious investigations into the Khir Toyo's palatial RM24 million home (or thereabout). And what about the RM12 million former PM's home that is currently being constructed, and the money laundering acts of a state Menteri Besar and some 'big shots'. Are these not serious cases that requires urgent treatment, rather than going after a small fry like Dato Mirza?

I have every reason to believe that Dato Mirza is a victim rather than an accuse. I do not believe that he had done something wrong as accused. I sense that someone his superior is not too please with him for not towing the line. I believe some senor politicians are involved, and this is where the MACC should start doing some serious investigation. I am not implying that a former Minister is involved, but the least the MACC could do is to investigate, and to give Dato Mirza a fair trial.

There is nothing worse than to see Dato Mirza be found guilty through a miscarriage of justice. And as a Muslim, 'fitnah' is a grievous crime in the eyes of Allah, and the wrath of Allah is severe and extreme for those who are guilty of 'fitnah' against a fellow human being. MACC had better watch this.

Pakistan court orders ears and noses to be cut off

A Pakistani court has ordered that two men have their ears and noses cut off, as punishment for doing the same to a woman who refused to marry one of them. The two brothers were found guilty of kidnapping 20-year-old Fazeelat Bibi, one of their cousins, in September. The judge in Lahore also sentenced them to life in prison. Sentence was passed on Monday under a rarely invoked Islamic law dating from the 1980's. In the past similar sentences have been revoked on appeal.

'Eye for an eye'Government prosecutor Ehtisham Qadir said the punishment had been awarded in accordance with the Islamic principle of "an eye for an eye". Sher Mohammad and Amanat abducted Fazeelat Bibi as she returned home from work at a brick kiln in the Raiwind area of Lahore, the court heard. "They put a noose around her neck, and then cut off her ears and nose," Mr Qadir told the BBC. Three alleged accomplices are still being sought by police.

The crime was committed after Fazeelat Bibi's parents refused to give her hand in marriage to Sher Mohammad, Mr Qadir said. Islamic laws were introduced in Pakistan during the military regime of General Ziaul Haq in the 1980s. The BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad says punishments prescribed under the laws have rarely been awarded, and never carried out. Pakistani human rights activists have long campaigned for more to be done to stop attacks against women, which often include facial disfigurement. However, they also disagree with the type of punishment handed out in Lahore, correspondents say. BBC

But then it is expected of Pukistan, ooops Pakistan, On August 6 the judge Malak Saeed Ejaz of Multan Bench of Lahore High Court ordered for the medical examination of Saba Younas to ascertain her age. The medical report concluded that the girl is 16 to 17 years old and had reached the puberty; despite the fact her Catholic birth certificate plainly states she is 13. "After the medical report the chances of Saba's return are less" family lawyer Rashid Rehman says "because a 16 to 17 years old girl has reached puberty and 'is able' to get married'". Rehman noted another unfavourable factor was that on being questioned, the girl stated in the court that she is 17 years old and has 'converted to Islam and got married on her own will'". Pas Kena Buat Hisbah Penilaian Terhadap Ahli Parlimen Pas, Adun Dan Exco

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 04:53 AM PST

Pas perlu buat kajian yang lebih mendalam atau menghisbah seluruh Ahli Parlimen Pas, Adun dan Exco Pas sebelum dan selepas menang pilihanraya pru-12 supaya nampak lebih telus dan bersih sebagai memenuhi dasar Pas yang menjadikan Al-Quran dan Hadis sebagai dasar Pas. Perkara berikut wajib di ambil kira;

Arahan siapa? Arahan dari Allah dan RasulNya.

"Hai orang-orang yang beriman, penuhilah aqad-aqad itu"
Al-Maidah 1

Sabda Rasulullah s.a.w.

Jadi hubaya-hubaya. Kita dipandang dan dinilai dari segala arah.

Aceh Sharia forbids Chinese dance of the lions

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - Indonesians of Chinese descent are in revolt against the decision of the Religious Affairs Office of Aceh, which has banned the popular barongsay (the dance of the lions, ed) during the commemorations of the fifth anniversary of the tsunami. The authorities explain that it is clearly extraneous to local culture and they want to "maintain religious harmony." The descendants of the Chinese replicate by describing the decision as "ridiculous".

Kim, an Indonesian of Chinese descent in North Jakarta, speaks of a "ridiculous and shameful" decision, in open violation of the five basic principles (the Pancasila) that "ensure full respect for cultural diversity." They are the five pillars of secular nationalism, on which the country has built its history since independence in 1945. "The decision to ban the barongsay - he adds - humiliates the various ethnic groups in Indonesia, including the Chinese people of Aceh."...

A. Rahman TB, an official of the Religious Affairs Office of Aceh - the most fundamentalist province of the country, where Islamic law is in force - justifies the decision stressing that the dance "has never been represented before" and the desire to maintain" religious harmony among the Muslims of Aceh and other ethnic groups in the province".

"It's stupid" replies Martini, a woman of Chinese origin who lives in Jakarta, based on "completely unfounded reasons". The Chinese community states that the barongsay has"no religious character", but is only a" cultural show ". Finally they add that they received all necessary permits from local authorities, including a police permit....Asia News . Hat tip: Dhimmi Watch

Sidang Media Rosmah Terencat Bila DiSergah Soalan Cepumas

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 03:25 AM PST

Sibu In The Blue Ocean - Part 38

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 03:55 AM PST

I met up with Philip Wong and Melvin Goh this afternoon at Cafe Palmelia for exchange of views over teh tarik.

Philip Wong is my long-time buddy. Way back in 80s, we were active in Sibu championing consumer rights. Philip is a developer now with his base in KL. Despite that, his heart is still tied with threads of passion for Sibu.

Melvin Goh is Business Editor of Eastern Times, a local English daily. Soft-spoken, Melvin Goh has his heart set on Sibu also, albeit in another way. He is currently on a project writing life story of a prominent entrepreneur in Sibu.

Melvin asked for my views on the subject which I obliged.

I grabbed the opportunity to share with them in greater detail "Sibu In The Blue Ocean". Sibu being close to Philip and relevant to Melvin (by virtue of his book -writing project) drew the three of us into a good moment of sharing.

Let's keep "Sibu In The Blue Ocean" moving!

The last few days, the new media is having a gala time reporting on the missing RMAF jet fighter engine, and instead of just one engine, now the number has increased to two. Just don't believe in that number as yet. It may be many more, because the bottom of the ice-berg can be 100 times larger than the tip. Isn't this the indication given by the Chief of Defence Force himself?

Now, I not going to blame anyone nor ask anyone to be jailed for the fiasco. But the many people that I met does not seem to be too happy at the way the government handles the issue, that is viewed as an act of treason by those involved in the theft of the engines. The punishment meted to those involved as reported, does not reflect the severity of the case. We are not taking about a motor car engine, but a jet fighter engine, and surely the original equipment manufacturer will be deeply concern as to which country gets possession the engine.

It was indicated in the main stream media of the likelihood that the engines had been shipped to a middle eastern country. My guess is a country under sanction by the US, and it was only upon the US having sensed that the engines could possibly be in the hands of a country under sanction, that our government decided to expose the theft. Hence, the two year long silence.

Another view as to why the government decided to keep the news under wraps at the time was because the country was nearing the 2008 General Elections, and exposing such an issues that impinge upon national security, would be disastrous for the ruling government. And to bring out the issue soon after the elections was not the right time either, because this will jeopardize the momentum that has been building up by pro Najib supporters, to ensure that Najib becomes the next Prime Minister, following BN's disastrous 2008 General Elections.

On hindsight, I believe that the government was wrong in keeping silence from public knowledge, this security related issue that has serious national and international repercussions. The government will now have to bear the brunt of public odium, and also possibly the loss of pubic confidence in the government's future handling of serious security related issues. Whatever reasons and justifications that the government has given now has little impact on building and reassuring public confidence, and this does not augur well for Najib's leadership.

Had the government acted promptly upon the theft being known in 2007, I believe public confidence would not have been badly eroded.

Dua Enjin Pesawat Lesap, Apa Kata Nizar?

Posted: 22 Dec 2009 01:31 AM PST

Kedua-duanta memberikan gambaran berkenaan Najib,"katanya.

Kita tunggukan.
