A TARCIAN dinner

A TARCIAN dinner

A TARCIAN dinner

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 07:54 AM PST

To all my fellow TARCIAN readers... this entry is dedicated to you in regardless whether you have attended the dinner on last Saturday or just have give way to another wedding dinner... Anyway, enjoy the pictures that i have taken and do comment after reading eh~... :p

If you noticed i have posted another entry regarding the invitation card (do read my previous post) By now, you should be able to guess what time my mom and I arrived @ TARC. Yup! It's 5pm sharp... (hey we are not Kiasu, just that we thought it's only a short 2 hours mingling session... To my surprise it's a 8 course Chinese meal dinner. (Errrr... This was not my first time to attend this kind of dinner but it definitely was the first time to get an invitation stated 5:00pm for 7:00pm)...

This shots was taken on 5:30pm

Another hiccup was time management... the function should have started @ 7pm sharp... but the organizing committee has decided to wait for more late comer TARCIANS even the guest of honour has arrived about 6pm... so at the end, the function started @ 7:45pm... :(

Let's roll back to capture one very important statement earlier... I was sitting with a TARCIAN (Alumni) from Business faulty... he was so confident telling me that TARCIAN would defintely come 7pm sharp coz @ 6:30pm... the hall was not even 75%... I just gave him a smile and said "Let's See..."

The function started with the hip hop dance from the TARC student ... followed by the organizing chairman speech...

They are dancing lots of different songs including Lady GaGa's Poker Face
Do all of them looks poker face to you?

Principle of TARC speech was quite interesting... he full utilized his time to report out the progress of TARC

Oh! I like this program... it's a orchestra which formed with the mix of Chinese and Western music instruments

This are Chinese Instruments

First Course - the four season
Food was not very good but what do you expect, it was a charity event.
So have to bear with it.

The TARC choir performance led by Joseph, I was enjoying the song they sang

Joseph and his singing partner sang The Prayer, one of my favorite song...

This uncle was so talented with harmonica... big, small and all types of harmonicas
He even used his nose to blow... i meant the music instruments :p

This young dude was awarded Astro Talent Quest
errrr... I don't know which year and his name too
Just didn't pay any attention to what the MC said :p
Anyway, he is very talented as per said.

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to TARC
Happy Birthday to you

I didn't manage to stay throught the cake cutting celebration... the cake above was distributed to each of the tables in the hall... We left early as i have a trial exam the next day... That's it folks for all the report out on the 40th Anniversary of TARCIAN/Alumni dinner... Hope you enjoy eh~

Oh! one more thing... since Twilight Grandma was asking whether they served Shrimp and Oyster like YUEN... errrr... Grandma, the answer is in the picture... No Oyster only Shrimp... :(

Despite the two hiccups on the important items in organizing the events...Improvement needed... the overall dinner was good I meant the environment not the food and the entertaining talented TARCIAN who made the dinner so lively and enjoyable... I was so amazed with those talented TARCIAN since 1970s until today... :p

Awareness Campaign at Orang Asli Village

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 06:04 AM PST

As I had mentioned in a few of my earlier postings, this year for the first time, Buddies would be organising an event on our own in conjunction with the World AIDS Day. And our plan was to have an awareness campaign at an Orang Asli village in Perak.

Sunday, 6th December 2009 – D Day of the programme.

There were supposed to be 6 of us making a move from our centre in Ipoh, including one who already knew where the OA village was and would be showing the way. But he was feeling unwell, and although at first he figured he'd still go to show us the way, we told him to get a rest – we had already been given the directions to get to the place, and so we'd find our way there. Besides, Su Win, the lady who helped to disseminate the info to the kampong folks, could be contacted by hand phone and I had saved her number in my phone.

So 5 of us made a move from Ipoh in 2 cars. Madam Chair took in the passengers (all ladies) while vice-chairman, who could only take in one passenger because he had the projector screen in his car, drove alone. 3 other volunteers, who stays at other towns, were to meet up with us at the junction heading to the village. (Hey! How come the chair and vice-chair always ended up as the drivers? During our retreat to Cameron Highlands in June this year, we went in 2 cars and the same 2 became the drivers as well. I wonder if it's part and parcel of becoming the chair & vice-chair!)

The village we were heading to? Kg Sg Genting, near Chenderiang.

We took the PLUS highway, exited via Gopeng then headed towards Kampar. The junction would be before we reached Kampar, ie the junction heading to Sg Siput Selatan.

It was only when we were already on the way that I remembered to ask if anyone had taken along condoms for our condom demo. I was too busy putting in all the mechanical gadgets (projector, loud speaker & notebook) in my car, I totally forgot about the condom! Aiseh! No 7-11 on the way and definitely no shops selling condoms at the OA village.

When we got to the junction where we were supposed to meet up with the other 3 volunteers, I called up one of the volunteers and was told that he'd take another 10 to 15 minutes to get there. So our vice-chair waited at the junction while we ladies went to look for condoms! The small shops didn't look like they'd sell condoms (we saw kedai motor and kedai perabot and a mamak restaurant – we'd look real desperate if we had actually stopped and asked if they sold condoms!!) and so we decided to head to Tesco Kampar which was just about 10 minutes away. Imagine one of our ladies going there and queuing up just to pay for a pack of 3 condoms when the other shoppers were queuing with trolleys filled with loads of stuff!

Anyway, by the time we got back to the junction, the other volunteers were already there and so we continued our journey to Kg Sg Genting with me leading the way. The instruction I remembered most was that we'd be passing under the highway bridge once and the kampong would be right before reaching the next highway bridge. As such I drove until we saw the second highway bridge, stopped by the roadside and called Su Win. We weren't that far off, just turn back and find the first junction on the right, which was just nearby.

And so we finally reached Kg Sg Genting…

The building where the talk was held.

There were power sockets at the above building, but the electricity meter was not. Sudah kena potong I guess. But Su Win had kindly arranged for a long extension wire to get electricity supply from the nearby house. Only problem was, there was only one socket available. Thank goodness my notebook had been fully charged, and so should be able to last about 3 hours on batteries. Likewise, the loudspeaker too had been fully charged and should be able to last for 2 hours usage. And so, we had to give priority to the projector to get the electricity supply as the projector wasn't rechargeable.

Posing while waiting for the more OAs to come.

Explaining to the OAs about HIV and AIDS.

At least they seemed attentive enough…

Not to me but to the screen…

Even these kids were paying attention.

OK, listen up people! This lady here is gonna show you how to use the condom properly… with a real life… ermmm… BANANA!

Oh OK, so maybe the banana she bought was a wee bit too big…

See the smiles during the condom demo?

No questions asked during the talk itself but this group of ladies did ask me privately after the talk, during makan time. At least they were interested enough to know more.

Makan time!

Volunteers & Su Win in a group photo after the talk.

Packing up our gadgets after the talk.

OA11 OA12

With one of the OA families after the talk. This house was where we got our electricity supply from.

This was not only our first time organising our own World AIDS Day event, it was also our first time giving talks to OAs. We were not expecting any changes overnight. To us it was good enough that a group of OAs were willing enough to come and listen to the talk.

Hopefully that was just a start to more awareness amongst the Orang Aslis.

Selangor Basmi Penyangak Pasir Warisan BN

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 06:37 AM PST

- MOHD SAHRULNIZAM MOHD ZAIN (TVS)

Apa Muslihat Mahathir Pertahankan Modul BTN?

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 06:03 AM PST

-TVS

The Swiss ban on minarets was a vote for tolerance - By Ayaan Hirsi Aliand inclusion

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 05:25 AM PST

The bootlicker of UMNO Wong Chun Wai, writes his column titled "Swiss in the doghouse". Scoring points eh, Wong? Many people have demolished his arguement many a time. Look into Malaysia itself, it is a disgrace as far as freedom of religion is concerned and along with 56 other OIC countries. No amount of spin, Wong, will get you out of the dog house. The Swiss are a democracy. Then the "great" Farish spins with his The Pathologisation of Muslims As Everything That is Wrong With Europe.

Here is how Muslim countries screw their minorities, read here It is okay for Muslim countries to ban bibles and trash their minorities...not okay for a Christian (Switzerland) country to ban minarets and here, The Problem of Islamic Religious Persecution. Minarets are a Symbol of Faith & Power. Here is how and why, After the Ottoman Sultan, Fatih Mehmet conquered the Byzantine capital of Constantinople in May 1453, one of his first acts was to order a wooden minaret added to the 900-year-old church of Hagia Sophia to signal its conversion into a mosque. The temporary wooden minaret was soon rebuilt in stone and three others added for good measure. As Mehmet and his successors built other mosques in their new capital, Istanbul's skyline came to be punctuated by dozens of slender, arrow-like minarets that gave the Ottoman capital a distinctive aspect and signaled to all that it was no longer the capital of Christian Byzantium but the new capital of an Islamic empire. Well, the West has yet to reconquer Contantinople? Remember Spain and the reconquista?

I am not as good as this lady, but she is definitely better than Wong or Farish. Listen to her rationale on the ban of the minarets. She is an ex-Muslim, I will not even talk about Lina Joy and the freedom to chose one's faith in Malaysia. The Malaysian Foreign Minister, needs to read alot.

In the battle of ideas, symbols are important.

What if the Swiss voters were asked in a referendum to ban the building of an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles as a symbol of the belief of a small minority? Or imagine a referendum on building towers topped with a hammer and sickle – another symbol dear to the hearts of a very small minority in Switzerland. Political ideas have symbols: A swastika, a hammer and sickle, a minaret, a crescent with a star in the middle (usually on top of a minaret) all represent a collectivist political theory of supremacy by one group over all others.

On controversial issues, the Swiss listen to debate, read newspapers, and otherwise investigate when they make up their minds for a vote. What Europeans are finding out about Islam as they investigate is that it is more than just a religion. Islam offers not only a spiritual framework for dealing with such human questions as birth, death, and what ought to come after this world; it prescribes a way of life.

Islam is an idea about how society should be organized: the individual's relationship to the state; that the relationship between men and women; rules for the interaction between believers and unbelievers; how to enforce such rules; and why a government under Islam is better than a government founded on other ideas. These political ideas of Islam have their symbols: the minaret, the crescent; the head scarf, and the sword.

The minaret is a symbol of Islamist supremacy, a token of domination that came to symbolize Islamic conquest. It was introduced decades after the founding of Islam. In Europe, as in other places in the world where Muslims settle, the places of worship are simple at first. All that a Muslim needs to fulfill the obligation of prayer is a compass to indicate the direction of Mecca, water for ablution, a clean prayer mat, and a way of telling the time so as to pray five times a day in the allocated period.

The construction of large mosques with extremely tall towers that cost millions of dollars to erect are considered only after the demography of Muslims becomes significant. The mosque evolves from a prayer house to a political center. Imams can then preach a message of self-segregation and a bold rejection of the ways of the non-Muslims. Men and women are separated; gays, apostates and Jews are openly condemned; and believers organize around political goals that call for the introduction of forms of sharia (Islamic) law, starting with family law.

This is the trend we have seen in Europe, and also in other countries where Muslims have settled. None of those Western academics, diplomats, and politicians who condemn the Swiss vote to ban the minaret address, let alone dispute, these facts. In their response to the presence of Islam in their midst, Europeans have developed what one can discern as roughly two competing views. The first view emphasizes accuracy. Is it accurate to equate political symbols like those used by Communists and Nazis with a religious symbol like the minaret and its accessories of crescent and star; the uniforms of the Third Reich with the burqa and beards of current Islamists?

If it is accurate, then Islam, as a political movement, should be rejected on the basis of its own bigotry. In this view, Muslims should not be rejected as residents or citizens. The objection is to practices that are justified in the name of Islam, like honor killings, jihad, the we-versus-they perspective, the self-segregation. In short, Islamist supremacy. The second view refuses to equate political symbols of various forms of white fascism with the symbols of a religion. In this school of thought, Islamic Scripture is compared to Christian and Jewish Scripture. Those who reason from this perspective preach pragmatism. According to them, the key to the assimilation of Muslims is dialogue. They are prepared to appease some of the demands that Muslim minorities make in the hope that one day their attachment to radical Scripture will wear off like that of Christian and Jewish peoples.

These two contrasting perspectives correspond to two quite distinct groups in Europe. The first are mainly the working class. The second are the classes that George Orwell described as "indeterminate." Cosmopolitan in outlook, they include diplomats, businesspeople, mainstream politicians, and journalists. They are well versed in globalization and tend to focus on the international image of their respective countries. With every conflict between Islam and the West, they emphasize the possible backlash from Muslim countries and how that will affect the image of their country.

By contrast, those who reject the ideas and practices of political Islam are in touch with Muslims on a local level. They have been asked to accept Muslim immigrants as neighbors, classmates, colleagues – they are what Americans would refer to as Main Street. Here is the great paradox of today's Europe: that the working class, who voted for generations for the left, now find themselves voting for right-wing parties because they feel that the social democratic parties are out of touch.

The pragmatists, most of whom are power holders, are partially right when they insist that the integration of Muslims will take a very long time. Their calls for dialogue are sensible. But as long as they do not engage Muslims to make a choice between the values of the countries that they have come to and those of the countries they left, they will find themselves faced with more surprises. And this is what the Swiss vote shows us. This is a confrontation between local, working-class voters (and some middle-class feminists) and Muslim immigrant newcomers who feel that they are entitled, not only to practice their religion, but also to replace the local political order with that of their own.

Look carefully at the reactions of the Swiss, EU and UN elites. The Swiss government is embarrassed by the outcome of the vote. The Swedes, who are currently chairing EU meetings, have condemned the Swiss vote as intolerant and xenophobic. It is remarkable that the Swedish foreign minister, Carl Bildt, said in public that the Swiss vote is a poor act of diplomacy. What he overlooks is that this is a discussion of Islam as a domestic issue. It has nothing to do with foreign policy.

The Swiss vote highlights the debate on Islam as a domestic issue in Europe. That is, Islam as a set of political and collectivist ideas. Native Europeans have been asked over and over again by their leaders to be tolerant and accepting of Muslims. They have done that. And that can be measured a) by the amount of taxpayer money that is invested in healthcare, housing, education, and welfare for Muslims and b) the hundreds of thousands of Muslims who are knocking on the doors of Europe to be admitted. If those people who cry that Europe is intolerant are right, if there was, indeed, xenophobia and a rejection of Muslims, then we would have observed the reverse. There would have been an exodus of Muslims out of Europe.

There is indeed a wider international confrontation between Islam and the West. The Iraq and Afghan wars are part of that, not to mention the ongoing struggle between Israelis and Palestinians and the nuclear ambitions of Iran. That confrontation should never be confused with the local problem of absorbing those Muslims who have been permitted to become permanent residents and citizens into European societies.

Siapa Blogger Celaka Dan Raja Segala Celaka Ini?

Siapa Blogger Celaka Dan Raja Segala Celaka Ini?

Ulasan GB

Rasanya tak perlu lagi GB mengulasnya panjang mengenainya.

So kita senyum. Itu jer kita dah tahu fikrahnya. "Mencelakakan" orang. Siapa yang mengajar kalau bukan Tok Gurunya sendiri. Betul hadith Nabi kata : agama rakyat mengikut pemimpinnya!

The news headline 'Large crowd for large book sale' caught my attention.

Curious, I just had to 'drop by' at Amcorp Mall the next day, Friday, November 27, 2009. It was a public holiday, thank God.

I arrived at Level 3 of Amcorp Mall to find the queue at least 'four-shop' long. Didn't relish the thought of queuing up for a long time. 'Will it worth the wait?' I thought to myself and walked away.

After a few minutes of walking 'aimlessly', I decided to check out the queue again. It was slightly shorter! So, I quickly joined the queue. Soon, came another 'queuer' behind me, a bespectacled lady whom I struck up a conversation with. After exchanging a few lines she remarked 'You don't look like you're a reader...' I thought to myself, 'Duh, does anyone has to look like a reader?' Courteously, I just told her that I came to check out some children books for my son.

Malaysia's illegal bookies all geared up for World Cup

Malaysia's illegal bookies all geared up for World Cup

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 4 (DPA) As football fans around the world wait for the World Cup finals next year in South Africa, illegal bookies in Malaysia are already preparing to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars from punters.

Football betting is big money in Malaysia, and every year a large chunk of the estimated 10 billion dollars made by illegal gaming syndicates comes from bets on international football matches.

All forms of sports betting in Malaysia are illegal, except for horse racing. But football bookies, in particular, have continued to flourish and go undetected every year by offering betting odds online.

'In the old days, when everything was manual and they used papers and pens (to take bets) it was much easier to detect, but now everything is online, so it gets more challenging,' said an officer from the triads, betting and vice department at the national Bukit Aman police headquarters.

The officer was speaking to DPA on condition of anonymity as he is not permitted to comment publicly.

Under the country's betting act, illegal bookmakers face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 200,000 ringgit ($57,150).

The penalty doesn't seem to be a deterrent, as the officer, who leads at least three raids on gambling and betting dens every month, said the number of betting syndicates and amounts involved have been increasing in recent years.

The most popular matches involve games in the English and Spanish leagues and, of course, the World Cup, which saw the group draw scheduled for later Friday in Cape Town.

World Cup matches generate considerable interest from Malaysian punters. In the months leading up to the 2006 World Cup in Germany more than 70 people were arrested and bets amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars were seized.

'We're intensifying our investigations in leading up to the World Cup finals next year,' said the officer.

He agreed that Malaysia was one of the main hubs for illegal sports betting, but said it was a problem of other Asian nations as well with a high population of ethnic Chinese, who make up the bulk of the bookies and customers.

Malaysian Chinese triad gangs have long been linked to gambling syndicates and attempts to fix football matches in Britain.

In the late 1990s, Malaysian criminals plotted to disrupt games in the English premiership by sabotaging floodlights at football grounds.

As certain bets can be paid out if a game is abandoned after passing half time, the syndicates stood to win millions of dollars from Asian punters with the disruption of games.

Malaysian gangs have also been implicated in attempts to bribe players in the English premiership to fix games.

'It's a growing problem, not only in Malaysia, but in countries like Hong Kong and Singapore as well,' the officer told DPA.

'A lot of these syndicates seem to be operating from Malaysia but they always have international links, so the police works very closely with our counterparts in other countries to keep tabs on these bookies.'

However, the authorities continue to be hard-pressed to control the betting operations as bookies find more ways to reach out to customers while escaping the hand of the law, including providing Internet and SMS alerts and telelinks.

'Bookies have been quite aggressive in promoting their services these past few months, and it will intensify as we approach the World Cup final matches,' said a better named Ng, a regular punter who personally favours English Premier League matches.

'Placing a bet is so convenient and easy that you sometimes forget it's illegal,' he said.

BTN : Mahathir Dedahkan Sikapnya Yang Sebenar

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 03:55 AM PST

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 03:10 AM PST

24-year-old killed on rain-soaked Mahameru Highway
Friday, December 4th, 2009 12:32:00

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver — and engine — were flung out of a vehicle in a fatal crash during bad weather along the Mahameru Highway not far from Istana Negara early this morning.

The 24-year-old driver, who smashed through the windscreen of his Nissan X-Trail, landed 16 metres away while the four-wheel-drive's engine block was detached from its bay in the 2.30am accident on the Sungai Besi-bound lane.

The wet and slippery conditions of the road were unfavourable for car salesman Ang Chee Tee from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, who died on the spot due to severe head injuries after he lost control of his 4WD and crashed into a lamp post on the divider.

After the driver was flung out, his car careened back into the middle of the highway, resulting in a 10-car pile-up.

Four cars were badly damaged, but none of their occupants were seriously injured and did not require any medical treatment.

Police and ambulance arrived at the scene about five minutes later. Ang's body was later sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary.

A witness, who didn't want to be identified, said: "I couldn't believe my eyes. The moment I saw the engine lying a few metres from the car, I knew it was really, really bad."

Kuala Lumpur public order and traffic chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said police have also taken blood samples from the deceased.

In the meantime, The Star Online reported car salesman Ang Chee Tee as Tan Chong executive director's son.

Cabinet declassifies Bukit Antarabangsa landslide report - nizar nizar nizar nizar

Posted: 06 Dec 2009 12:20 AM PST

On the leak of the report in the Internet, Shaziman said his Works Ministry has already lodged a police report on Dec 2.

TAMPIN, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) can now announce to the public the investigation report on the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide in December last year.

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the government had approved the MPAJ's request to publicise the report following the decision reached at the Cabinet meeting Friday.

"The decision was made to ensure that the interest and safety of the people in the area are safeguarded. I hope the MPAJ will not merely disclose the report but also understand and implement the recommendations made to improve the situation in the area so that the possibility of a recurrence can be reduced," he told reporters after a 'gotong-royong' programme to repair the houses of poor families in Kampung Baru Air Kuning Selatan, near here.

He said that on Nov 25, the MPAJ had written a letter to him requesting for the report on the landslide in the area to be declassified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972.

The application was made by the MPAJ after the Public Works Department had handed over the technical report on the landslide to the local authority, which would later be publicised.

In the incident on Dec 6, 2008, five people were killed and 14 bungalows destroyed at Taman Bukit Mewah, Bukit Antarabangsa, Hulu Klang.

Shaziman, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tampin, said the government had granted the request to publicise the report not because it had been widely reported in the internet, but following procedure that had been stipulated.

On the leak of the report in the internet, he said the ministry had already lodged a police report on Dec 2.

To ensure that the interest and safety of the people in the area are safeguarded? Yeah right! Why then, in the first place, the report was classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA)? Is it also to ensure that the interest and safety of the people in the area are safeguarded??

‘Mami jarum’ istilah sesuai untuk Umno

Posted: 05 Dec 2009 09:55 PM PST

Mami jarum.

-Mohd Zuharman

Nik Aziz: Umno makin lemas, lupakan Kelantan
Oleh Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

Sehari selepas mendoakan pemimpin kerajaan Barisan Naisonal (BN) "pecah perut" berhubung isu royalti minyak, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat yang berhadapan dengan siri isu kontroversi, malam tadi menyerang Umno dengan mendakwa parti itu seolah-olah terdesak untuk menggulingkan kepimpinan PAS di Kelantan.

Mursyidul Am PAS itu menegaskan Umno seolah-olah parti yang sedang lemas sehingga sanggup melakukan apa sahaja demi survival.

"Ceritanya ialah Umno sedang lemas, sanggup mengatakan apa saja termasuk membuat tuduhan terhadap saya.

"Mereka tahu bahawa mereka lemah.

, kata beliau lagi.

Ketika sedang berucap Nik Aziz berhenti sekejap sehingga mencetuskan suasana cemas di kalangan hadirin.

"Saya penat," katanya ringkas.

Good Governance Dan Persaudaraan Islam Menuntut Royalti Dibayar - Husam

Posted: 05 Dec 2009 05:23 PM PST

Catitan Imam Muslim.

Jika Perpaduan Islam asasnya, 95% rakyat Kelantan beragama Islam.

-Husam Musa
