Wesak Day Parade 2010 With Foyi In Penang

Wesak Day Parade 2010 With Foyi In Penang

Posted: 23 Jun 2010 10:58 AM PDT

It had been 2 years that I last joined the Wesak Day parade in Penang. Every year, during Wesak Day there will be floats parade and procession. Devotees walked around the city, with floats of flower and also many people came by to see. I went there once when I was Form 3, it was 3 years ago, last two years was really busy with study and now I am out of school, I get to join them again.

Have to be grateful that I was out from National Service (PLKN). I was expecting to meet my NS friends at the parade because they actually would be out to join the walk too but Deputy Komanden last minute didn't allow them to go. Sigh. No idea why, I just know it sucks.

I like the hair and camera.

I drove Kenny there. He came to my place to car pool with me because he was lazy to find parking. The place was Burma Road, somewhere near to Chinese Recreation Club. The whole road was closed on that day because of Wesak Day parade. When I was there, the parade was almost ready to start. I quickly went to the meeting place at CRC field to meet up with the Foyi friends.

Geared up my stuff and I am ready to walk and shoot. ^.^ I was really excited for that because it's really fun walking a long way and walking together.

There's us walking together with the float and a lot of people standing by the road side to see what's going on. There's also kind people giving out free water to those on the road.

At some point, I walked very fast to catch up with the front group to meet Frank, he was there too but with different group and was ahead of us. After saying hi, we stopped and waited for Foyi to pass by and joined in again. Tired but fun.

Short Tour of Penang National Park with NS Friends

2 weeks ago, on a Sunday, it's also the third day of a Penang trip with friends from NS (PLKN), some went home and some were still in Penang and so I brought them to National Park to take a short walk and lookaround.

IMG_4261 by nicholaschan.

Do you know that Penang has a National Park and it's the smallest in Malaysia? Many people still don't now. =D It's at Teluk Bahang following the trail in National Park will lead you to Pantai Kerachut, Muka Head and Monkey Beach, the 3 main attractions there.

IMG_4264 by nicholaschan.

We registered ourselves at the counter and started walking into the park. We just walked a little bit to the beach only because we were not prepared for hiking trail, it's just show them there's a national park in Penang. ^.^

It's low tide so we could go down the beach at there. The beach was not pretty because there's no ivory soft golden sand. It's hard.

It's pretty warm at that time, close to sunset, but it's still fun.

Wan Theng and Shan Shan.

4 of June, Wantheng asked me out for a movie, the movie was Nightmare On Elmstreet and it was pretty old movie by then because it's already started screening in the cinema for like few weeks ago. Since it had been quite a long time didn't meet her already and I was so free, so went out together to the cinema. There's Wan Theng, Shan Shan, Jia Ying, Chai Wei, Priscilla and her friend Man Yin, 4 out of 6 were tuition friends, and the other two were friend's friend.

IMG_2314 by nicholaschan.

Movie was at Prangin Mall's Cathay Cineplex. Still remember last time during high school, I always go there to watch movie after school, or go there to watch above 18 movie because there's no check. It was last time and now, Cathay Cineplex is like a last resort to me, because I still prefer GSC afterall.

After that was meal at Shua Shua Le, also a restaurant that I would normally go after school last time. Now seldom go because I seldom or not take the public bus already. Because last time come back from school by public bus, the bus will stop at Prangin Mall, then I have to make an interchange to other bus to go home. So while making the change, will go to the mall to eat and movie first before going home. Pretty fun. High school rocks.

Siapa di sebalik kemelut Istana Mahkota Kelantan - Bab 3

Posted: 23 Jun 2010 09:14 AM PDT

"Semasa mengiringi baginda, hati kecil saya berkata keadaan Tuanku tidaklah seteruk seperti digambarkan beberapa akhbar arus perdana....

"Saya berani kerana benar.

Semua takut!"

Free Photo At Switch World, Gurney Plaza

Switch World is a yearly event held by Switch, an Apple Premium Reseller here in Penang. Last time I always go check it out but now I don't already because it's just taking the whole Apple store out into a big place to show people what Apple has. I am an Apple fanboy and I think I know quite a lot about Apple already.

I was at Gurney Plaza during Switch World few weeks ago so I dropped by to check it out anything special. End out, I found an external battery pack for my Google Nexus One, and I bought it up. =D Upon buying anything there, we got a free photoshoot and photo printout. Pretty cool.

Every year, there will be a Mini Cooper, no idea why. But it's cool.

IMG_4233 by nicholaschan.

Many people don't know Mac being brain washed at there too. There's a way to tell people that Mac doesn't lag, that is they will open a lot of folder and tell you, "see, no lag", actually opening folder will not lag a computer. Haha.

I bought something and there's 5 of us, me, Qonstance, Sumay, Hueisean and Tzou Xiong, and we went to free shoot at there. Free edit, free soft copy and a free print out. =D

So fun, but the person who edit our photo talked a lot, a little bit too much because I knew quite a lot about the software and he assumed we didn't know. OMG. Nevermind, still we get free printout! =)

FIVE YEARS DOWN THE ROAD...

Posted: 23 Jun 2010 08:08 AM PDT

This evening, I met up with one of my former students whom I had not seen for more than five years. When I saw him at the entrance of Winter Warmers @ Gurney Plaza, I was stunned that the young eighteen year old student I taught during my A-level years had grown into a fine young man and now known as Dr. Nicholas Aw. I was so happy to hear that his convocation would be held next month at Equatorial Hotel, Penang.

Originally, I suggested meeting @ Winter Warmers as I love the teas they serve there. However, after exchanging greetings, we decided to go to Segafredo for drinks before proceeding to Chicago Rib House for dinner. Here's a pic of Dr. Aw with Dato' Dr. T.S. Yee. Cool hair-style ya?

Nicholas' brother, Nigel, was my son's classmate for six years in primary school and three years in secondary school. He is a second year medical student at UCD in Dublin.

We talked for over three hours non-stop about many topics and it was certainly a very heart-warming experience for me to see how a former student of mine has matured exceptionally well. Nicholas had always been a brilliant scholar but more importantly, far beyond the fantastic academic results, here is one young man who writes and thinks beautifully. I still have his very long essay on the democratic system in Malaysia. In my entire life, I have only met a few who write impeccably and Nicholas is amongst the top five that I have taught in my entire lifetime.

Naturally, he asked me why I quit teaching and I shared with him from the bottom of my heart. I also encouraged him to continue writing and invited him to write a post for this blog. Of course, he declined politely saying that it has been a long time since he wrote anything serious on non-academic issues. Still, the offer stands :-).

Thereafter, we reminisced about the others in his cohort and how each of them is doing very well either academically or in their respective careers. For that cohort, a few became/are on their way to becoming doctors including Nisha, Seleen, Rachel and Wei-Lyn. A few such as Nadia, Nicole and Xinch have graduated and are working while others like Sian and Richard are doing their masters while Chris is working with Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. I am glad they were my last A-level students for this was certainly one of the best group of students I had ever taught in my life. They are beautiful persons in their own right and achieved their dreams and ambition because they dared to dream and to chase their dreams. Most of them are still in touch with me! What a blessing!

Nicholas demonstrates the sensitivity, beliefs, hopes, idealism and maturity of one far beyond his 24 years. We were able to discuss and share views of historical episodes in our country to hypothetical situations in the future. I was particularly touched by his love for Malaysia. He had the choice of doing his internship overseas or locally and he chose the latter. An articulate young man, Nicholas spoke candidly about the meaning of 'ambition' and his love for medicine while lamenting the way society has conditioned students into thinking that medicine is the best profession without considering whether they have the character or inclination. He hopes to be a surgeon in the future.

While we chatted over dinner, I asked him about Carpel Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms as I spend too much time in front of the computer and also about my forgetfulness :-). I must say Nicholas' response was most professional and I was indeed impressed.

Before we parted, I casually remarked that he must be happy that he is now no longer a student. Indeed, I was so proud to hear his response. He said that the journey is about to begin for him for what he has achieved so far is nothing compared to the many lessons in life's experiences that he will be learning. Dr. Nicholas Aw - I am very proud of you and wish you God's blessings in all your future undertakings! Take care and stay in touch!

Guna JI Untuk Paksa Sertai UMNO BN. Go To Hell UMNO!

Posted: 23 Jun 2010 07:58 AM PDT

Guna Jemaah Islamiah Untuk Beri Tekanan Kepada Dr.Asri Sertai Umno Barisan Nasional

Usaha Najib disambut oleh rakyat dengan jeritan "Go to hell UMNO!".

It's Coadjutor Bishop John Wong

Posted: 23 Jun 2010 07:02 AM PDT

Here it is, I reproduce herewith Archbishop Datuk John Lee's letter regarding the appointment of Rev Fr John Wong Soo Kau as Coadjutor Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu.

Yesterday, I wrongly reported it as Adjutant Bishop and I apologise for the mistake. I then based it on my hearing of what was announced only and I managed to lay hands on a copy of the letter only today.

As can be seen, the letter was addressed to all Clergy and Religious communities, and care-taker Parish Pastoral Councils of the Archdiocese.

As stated in the letter, the appointment was made by none other than the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI of the Vatican in Rome.

I still don'tknow what a Coadjutor Bishop is but I will find out and get back to you. Can't find the word in two major dictionaries. It must be a term used only in the Catholic world. But as I said yesterday the new Bishop must be somekind of a deputy to the Archbishop.

Once again, congratulations Rt Rev Fr John or rather Bishop John!

It just goes to show that the facts are out there but it requires a lot of digging to find them.

Licks balls 1 Malaysia and gets RM31 million

Posted: 23 Jun 2010 04:29 AM PDT

KUALA LUMPUR: The Shah Alam Hospital saga has taken an "Ali Baba" twist with revelation that the main contractor for the RM482 million project did not do any work at all and yet had made a handsome profit.

Opposition MP Tony Pua (DAP-PJ Utara) said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should look into this matter.

Speaking at press conference at Parliament today, Pua produced two documents which clearly showed that the whole project was being carried out by the sub-contractor, GM Healthcare Sdn Bhd, and not the main contractor, Sunshine Fleet Sdn Bhd.

One document stated that a letter of award was given to a sub-contractor, Isyoda (M) Sdn Bhd, a company which eventually had to opt out after it was delisted from Bursa Malaysia.

The project was subsequently given to GM Healthcare.

"In the letter of award, it was stated that RM451 million would be given to Isyoda while Sunshine Fleet (the main contractor) would receive RM482 million from the government.

"So the main contractor gets a net profit of RM31 million… this is a clear 'Ali Baba' project. The PWD needs to take action against Sunshine Fleet...," he said.

Pua said the fact that Sunshine Fleet is making a net profit without doing any work (since the whole project is handled by the sub-contractor) contradicts the terms of the contract awarded by the ministry.

Pua also said that a second letter by Isyoda to Sunshine Fleet showed that the former had promised a payment of RM46 million to the Sunshine Fleet chairman personally, and not through the main contractor.

'Unconditional payment'

The unconditional payment, according to the letter, was in consideration of Sunshine Fleet's "efforts to procure the letter of award to be issued to us in further consideration of your future contribution and cooperation to ensure the smooth operation and success of the project".

It also said that the RM46 million would be paid by instalments. From this amount, said Pua, Isyoda promised to pay 9.5% progressive interim payments to the Sunshine Fleet chairman totalling RM77 million.

"This is seen as a commission for this contract. But is it really a commission or a bribe? We have given this to the MACC for further investigation," he said.

Shah Alam Hospital is reportedly bogged down in a legal tussle between Sunshine Fleet and GM Healthcare, giving rise to fears that the project will not be completed on time.

But Works Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor dismissed such fears, saying that the project is on track.

Besides, he told Parliament today that the government is only responsible to the main contractor and has no authority over payments to the sub-contractor.

It has been reported that GM Healthcare has filed a petition to wind up Sunshine Fleet over a RM10 million debt.

Sunshine was served the notice on April 1 this year after it failed to pay the RM10 million owed to GM Healthcare. The RM10 million is the bond GM Healthcare had placed with the Public Works Department (PWD) on behalf of Sunshine Fleet for the design, construction, equipping, commissioning and maintenance of the Shah Alam Hospital.

'No action against Sunshine Fleet'

In reply to Pua, Shaziman said that as long as the project is on schedule, the PWD will not take action against Sunshine Fleet.

However, he said that a new law, Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act, will be introduced to ensure sub-contractors are paid on time.

"This will help protect sub-contractors who do not get any payment from the main contractor," he said.

Shaziman also said that the PWD has not detected any breach of contract allegedly committed by Sunshine Fleet.

"In view of this, the question of the project being delayed or the contract being terminated does not arise. This is because the project is on track and (the parties) have observed the terms of the contract agreed to by the government," he said.

The hospital, which was slated to be completed in November this year, will be ready by June next year.

Opposition MPs have repeatedly raised the issue, alleging that there were discrepancies in the contract PWD awarded to Sunshine Fleet through direct negotiation in 2007.

The situation took a turn for the worse when the board of directors of Sunshine Fleet, many of are related to the Sultan of Selangor, became involved in the legal squabble. - MT

Pesan Untuk Sahabat Yang Punya Masalah

Posted: 22 Jun 2010 07:38 PM PDT

- Al-Marhum Ustaz Mustafa Masyhur, Mursyidul Am kelima Jamaah Ikhwan Muslimin .

Presiden PAS Dikait Dengan Dr Asri, Wahabi & JI

Posted: 22 Jun 2010 07:37 PM PDT

KL. JUN 23 10:

(AK)

Dr Asri Dan Ulama Sertai Umno Demi Perlindungan Politik?
