COMMENT A lot of things have developed recently centring on the formulation and implementation of grandiose public policies under the Ketuanan Melayu leadership.

Public opinion and perception however say most of them have proven ill-conceived, poorly implemented or constructed, causing colossal wastage of life, money and other resources, and hardly ever comprehensively and professionally managed.

Many of them are even crooked and sinful in nature. Just look at the Maminco debacle, the forex fiasco in the 80s, the recent PKFZ controversy, faulty submarines, lost air force jet engines, abuse of public institutions, broken public institutions, and very recently the falling roof of a stadium in Terengganu and revelations of possible hanky panky with the construction figures of the new Agong's palace and with the Felda accounts.

It's the devil's free for all out there. When was the last time we got up in the morning, turned on the alternative communication media, read the latest exposure of government indiscretions and misconduct and not had our hair stand on end?

I am presenting this article hoping to understand the issue so as to enable us, the poor Malaysian citizenry, withstand the effects of failed Ketuanan Melayu policies. If we are to be run down by a bus, at least we should know what make it is.

Welcome to the C-string and the D list of Ketuanan Melayu thinking.

C for Contention

The C stands for 'Contentions' (or assumptions):

The basic assumption is that human thinking is divisible into two – the natural and the rational. There are several features of the natural norm:

i) It accepts all wisdom inherited from the elders, and that these are accepted without any criticism, doubt, or scepticism. Just look at the way the Malay accepts his culture and tradition, and even his religion to illustrate this point.

ii) Any inherited wisdom is considered the truth and the whole truth. It can never be wrong. Again take note of the Malay contention that the Malay race is the best, and Islam is the only one religion for mankind. His favourite ideology 'untuk agama, bangsa dan negara' says it all.

iii) It has no facility or avenue to realise its own mistakes. The Malay mind is not privy to alternatives so he is never wrong. So to follow his inherited wisdom as outlined in the illustrations on tradition, culture, and religion above is the right thing to do.

iv) It has no facility to solve its own mistakes on its own volition.

To illustrate the viability and credibility of these assumptions we might just look at this new institution called Perkasa under the leadership of Ibrahim Ali. We try to analyse the thinking underlying this institution's creation.

The objective mind can detect at least some of these assumptions, indicating the high probability that the Malay thinking norm belongs to this category.

The second is the rational or scientific norm, where all wisdom received from the past are first given evaluation, analysis, scepticism and doubt; where truth is based on observation, experimentation, deduction and induction. Nothing is accepted as the truth until it is proven beyond doubt that this is so.

Stringing the Cs

These four Contentions would produce the ensuing string of Cs:

i) Conformity:

The Malay accords high value to group (or Malay) interest, identity, influence and solidarity. Everything is done not in his name but in the name and interest of the family, and of course of the Malay race, the religion of Islam and (only) lastly, the country. The spirit of the individual in him is not fully developed. He pays scant regard to his individual interest.

ii) Conservatism:

The Malay penchant for conformity renders him supporting the status quo, to be conservative. Again his penchant to preserve and protect Malay tradition, language, and culture as an example of this feature.

iii) Comparison, lack of:

Malay thinking is unilateral ('Malay is the best race&#8217, judgmental ('My ustaz is the best imam around&#8217 and the tendency for syllogism ('Najib is our present PM. Our past PMs have been good. Therefore Najib is the best PM we ever had&#8217. It has tendency for hyperbolism, but not privy to alternatives.

iv) Control by a central authority:

The individual is under control of his parents in the family and by his ethnic society.

* The Malay polity is controlled by an autocratic body, in the form of a king or a strong personality.

* For religion, control has always been in the hands of a central body namely the priestly or ulama class.

* In a democracy, authority ought to be in the hands of the people, but this has been hijacked possibly by the elected governing body done by imitating the religious control exercised by the ulama. The government would almost automatically assume a superior role over the population.

Now, there is nothing silly or stupid about all these principles. Any and every culture would have undergone them at some point or other.

The moot point is they reflect the thinking norms of simpler days gone by and still found in simpler societies of today. But the world has become very complex and change comes quickly, so much so that they say you have to run in order to stay still.

Today humankind has a fairly firm understanding of nature and is able to control it. We live in a technical and scientific world buzzing with amazing technology.

This buzzing 'new world' is featured by change which unfortunately the conservative and conformist mind is not privy to.

v) Change:

There are two issues here. Change is an elusive concept and takes place only in the mind.

More importantly it takes place only if you are aware of it taking place. If there is no awareness, there is no change, only evolution.

My contention is that the mainstream Malay mind has not got sufficient awareness that change is taking place. His natural thinking has not developed to scientific thinking. So here comes the following Cs:

i) Conflict.

When heat meets with cold, when plus meets with minus, when black meets with white then sparks are created. There are very many plusses colliding with minuses in Malay life. The changing demands of an urban life with that of his pastoral past is a immediate example.

ii) Corrosion.

Malay beliefs and values are corroded. For example, the case of culture again. The 'old' Malay wants his traditions to be preserved, but modern life is eroding it at an alarming rate.

iii) Contradiction.

Vast amounts of contradiction are produced.

iv) Consistency, or lack of:

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's leadership has been labelled by an irate public as flip-flopping, showing wobbly and inconsistent thinking. Remember when he cancelled an international inter-faith meeting to be held in Kuala Lumpur? The cancellation was so last minute participants including the Archbishop of Canterbury had to cancel their travel plans.

v) Criticise and condemn:

All new knowledge especially those that do not fall within the ambit of Malay perception of truth are criticised and condemned (and eventually rejected). The non-Malay segment of the citizenry are marginalised and termed 'pendatang' (immigrants), prostitutes and beggars. Political opponents are harassed and intimidated.

vi) Coercion:

This is where Malay polity believes very strongly that his views are right. He uses the central authority 'bestowed' on him to subdue the people.

These situations arise:

The individual is coerced to be loyal and show respect his elders, race and religion as a matter of sacred duty. The Malay mind is not privy to the modern day wisdom that loyalty and respect must be earned.

Society is coerced to adhere strictly to religious tenets and principles. The Islamic religion is full of dogmas to ensure this in any case.

The people are compelled to be loyal to the Ketuanan Melayu leadership and government of the day.

Those who do not conform are intimidated, penalised and punished. This is very easily done with the very long list of laws like the ISA, OSA, PPPA, and the Sedition Act.

vii) Corruption:

When the people are suitably intimidated, coerced into subservience and submission then the axiom that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely comes to full fruition (no illustration needed here).

We are fairly done with the C-string of the Malay mind. Feel free to add more, for there can be many more not yet touched upon.

D for Denial

Now for the D standing for 'Deny' or 'Denial'.

To the Malay mind, any and all that does not come within its known parameters are suspect. The Ketuanan Melayu will hardly ever voluntarily admit to any short-coming, mistake, misgiving, or mismanagement.

Instead it thinks nothing of cheating, lying, hiding of facts, projecting half-truths, or cover-ups. When Khairy Jamaludin sarcastically called Ibrahim Ali (right) a 'jaguh kampung' or village champion, a deragotary remark, Ibrahim Ali turned it around by claiming it as a huge compliment!

This is a clear example that the Ketuanan Melayu institution and leadership is all about, firstly, its political and social survival following the axiom that politics is the art of the impossible; and secondly, not having to say sorry.

The features, purpose and method of denial are many, some of which are:

* Protecting the status quo.

* Not acknowledging the existence of established facts despite obvious evidence, like disputing the happening of the Holocaust.

* Conflict and contradiction are deemed to be the work of the devil or enemies of Islam.

* All myths and perceptions are constantly nurtured by constant repetition via the government controlled mass media.

* By constant indoctrination.

* By discrediting the messenger.

* By making the work of civic societies difficult. This is to deny all and sundry from volunteering information or feedback. Just ask the Sisters in Islam for proof. The notion that no Muslim or non-Muslim may even analyse and criticise any tenets of Islam is another illustration.

Pygmalion effect

My rationale for listing this C-string and the D list is quite simple.

There is this item in human psychology known as the Pygmalion effect. Simply stated it means that a person will behave in the manner he is treated by another.

An illustration would be a teacher saying to his students that they are stupid and will not pass their exams. The students will somehow become stupid with many failing their exams.

Now the Ketuanan Melayu has been spoon-feeding the Malay, strengthening his crutches, giving accolades to his 'Third World' mentality.

Furthermore, it drums into the Malay mind that he is weak, needs help now and forever and is dependent on the government for his survival. Without this concerted help the Malay will not survive, it says again and again and again. It is creating the Pygmalion effect.

Because of this the Malay mind will be more deeply embedded in the changeless paradigm box of confusion, conformity, conservatism, contradiction, conflict, and always denying his shortcomings. The Ketuanan Melayu is also denying new ideas from rescuing the Malay from the box of the changeless status quo.

In this situation his leaders are busy involving themselves with the most rotten C of all – corruption.

Now I propose to name the make of the bus that is flattening the Malaysian polity. I wish to call it the 'Ketuanan Melayu Pygmalion'.

SPR Sedang melakukan Persempadanan Semula Untuk Kepentingan BN

-FMT

Leaders come and go but Umno politics stay: Then Anwar, now Muhyiddin

Muhyddin's recent rhetoric was business as usual for Umno, say analysts. — file pic
KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's recent use of increasingly strident race rhetoric is standard practice for Umno when faced with troubled times, say political commentators.
Political scientist Dr Farish Noor said Umno playing the race card was nothing new, and followed a pattern where the party would amplify parochialism whenever it was not strong enough to fend off challenges from the opposition or there was an internal leadership crisis.
"This use of ethno-nationalist discourse has always been part and parcel of Umno politics since the 70s," Farish told The Malaysian Insider.
He also said the deputy prime minister's constant harping on issues calculated to appeal to Malay voters was consistent with the historical role of his position as Umno deputy president.
"There's always been this history of this double act in Umno... It's not even a new script," Farish pointed out.
He said that Umno has to have two faces, with the prime minister acting as a "bridge-builder" to the non-Malays and the world while his deputy was responsible for unifying the party.
Farish pointed out that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim played a similar role as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's second before his fall from favour in 1998.

Najib and Muhyiddin's (left) seemingly opposing voices fit a long-established Umno mould. — file pic
"Anwar's task in the 80s was simple — to promote Umno's Islamic credentials and to harass PAS... [while] Dr Mahathir sold the idea of a developed Malaysia abroad," he said. "We can go back and read all their speeches. Anwar was doing then what Muhyiddin's doing now."
Farish added that this arrangement was likely to persist for the foreseeable future, citing Umno's "institutional inertia" and resistance to change.
"If Muhyiddin became PM tomorrow, he would need someone to play the role he's playing now," the political scientist said.
Monash University Malaysia political scientist Dr James Chin argued that this "division of labour" between Najib and Muhyiddin showed that Umno had not learned anything from its disappointing performance in Election 2008.
"They still think they can talk to different communities using different media," he told The Malaysian Insider.
"The new media operates totally differently — it operates in all languages. It doesn't matter if you speak it in Tamil like Samy Vellu or in Mandarin like the MCA... You can't specify your message to one particular ethnic community anymore."
However, Chin said the party will continue to tell Malays to unite under Umno or lose the Malay state they claim the Malay nationalist party had successfully built since 1969.
"It is consistent with the overall product that they're selling, which is 'Ketuanan Melayu' (Malay dominance)," he said.
He also said the stark warnings issued by Umno in recent weeks laid the ground for the coming general election, which he claimed was just around the corner.
"They're just positioning themselves [for the general election]," Chin said.
"The general election is crucial for Najib. If he loses further ground then Umno will only allow him to stay for one term. If he manages to win big, then he'll be there for at least two terms."
Merdeka Center director Ibrahim Suffian concurred with Farish's assessment that Muhyiddin's recent dire warnings to Malays was business as usual.
"I'm not sure if there's anything new there," he said of Umno's attempt at conflating Malay political and economic well-being with Malay unity.
"Ethnic unity in times of economic uncertainty strikes the strongest chord."
Ibrahim also identified the Najib-Muhyiddin double act as an attempt to strike a balance between its non-Malay supporters and investors, and its Malay-centric support base.
"The results of [Election] 2008 have prompted them to address the grievances of the minorities but they've realised a lot of the changes... are uncomfortable to their base," he said.
"They have to keep the base."
However, the pollster argued that while Umno's rhetoric struck a chord with many working class and lower middle-class Malays, there was still a disconnect between the party's words and the situation on the ground.
"Part of the rhetoric doesn't meet the reality they (the Malays) are confronted with," he said, citing rising inflation as well as the lack of job opportunities and access to government assistance for urban Malays.
"Malays living in urban areas generally fall out of the ambit of government assistance," Ibrahim added.
While he admitted that it will be hard for Umno to keep to race-based politics while leading a multi-ethnic coalition, Ibrahim nonetheless defended the Barisan Nasional (BN) solution as having the potential to occupy the centre ground of Malaysian politics through "best compromises".
"It (the coalition) is supposed to bring moderation and I think that's how it was designed by the country's forefathers."
"What becomes a problem is when representatives from one group see themselves as having greater rights than others," Ibrahim said.

Dr Mahathir yang Sebenar: Kawan baik Yahudi dan Antek AS

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 08:31 AM PDT

Dari Just Gan

Soalan terkini RPK, Siapa agen AS?

polis batal hasrat 'geledah' Ibupejabat KEADILAN

Polis batal 'periksa' pejabat PKR

Abdul Rahim Sabri

Letter by John R. Malott ( the United States Ambassador to Malaysia from 1995 to 1998.)
John R. Malott
Minister of Information, Communications, and Culture Rais Yatim owes Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian people, and the US government an apology. Rais recently was named as one of three persons in Malaysia whose job it is to "thwart the dissemination of false news by irresponsible people." That is indeed a worthy goal. No one want to see false news disseminated. So one would have hoped that at the first opportunity he had to perform the job he was appointed to do, Rais would ensure that the news he received was true. But that was not to be.
Here's what happened.
On July 11, Utusan Malaysia published an article claiming (not for the first time) that Anwar is a CIA agent.Utusan quoted a blog in America that no one has ever heard of. Utusan falsely said that it is a "well-known" blog. and stooge. For its evidence, Rais didn't check the background of the blog's author, and I doubt he even read the blog before he spoke. Instead, he ran with what Utusan reported. If Rais had checked, then after a 15-second Google search, he would have learned that Utusan's "expert" says she has been struck by lightning 10 times - inside her house - and that the Queen of England is engaged in money laundering. She says she lives on a mountain in New York with her horses and cats and dogs and chickens. So how could she know anything about Malaysia and who is a CIA agent?
Before Rais disseminated false news from such a person, why didn't he check the truth and save himself from embarrassment? Why didn't he do the job he was recently appointed to do? But it is not just Rais and Utusan. It amazes me that today people in Malaysia still continue to disseminate the nonsense that "Anwar is a CIA agent" for their own political gain. I dealt with this issue 10 years ago in an article I wrote for Malaysiakini ('Anwar was never an American spy', Sept 2, 2000) in which I said categorically that Anwar is not and never has been an American agent.
If I was lying 10 years ago, then why couldn't Mahathir - after 22 years in control of the Special Branch - prove me wrong? And why hasn't anyone been able to prove it in the seven years since Mahathir left power? Why can't they prove it today, instead of relying on the ramblings of mountain top bloggers in New York? Why hasn't Anwar ever been arrested on espionage charges? It's an easy answer - because it is not true. Anwar is not and never has been an American agent.
I say this for the same reason I told then-foreign minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 1998: If you say that Anwar is an American agent, you also are saying - falsely - that America is interfering in the internal political affairs of Malaysia, and that is not true. As I wrote in Malaysiakini a decade ago (I had then said I went to 'a very senior official in the Malaysian government. I can reveal now that the official was Abdullah), I said that on behalf of my government, Anwar was not a CIA agent. And if the Malaysian government arrested Anwar and claimed that he was an American agent, we would immediately issue a denial of the strongest order and challenge the Malaysian government to issue any proof to the contrary.
I also bluntly told Abdullah that his government would be embarrassed because they could never offer any proof to the contrary – because it does not exist. I went on to say that the Malaysian government might have its internal political differences with Anwar, but if it made a false claim against the US, namely, that we have interfered in your internal affairs, that someone in the government is an American agent, then it is involving the US, and we will expose it for the lie that it is.
Today, twelve years after I met with Abdullah, Malaysia still has not offered any proof that Anwar is an American agent - because it is not true. Finally, there is one more person that Rais Yatim needs to apologise to, and that is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. That is because Najib has made a special effort to improve relations with the US. People in both countries think that so far he has succeeded. So why are you now undercutting your prime minister's efforts and claiming that the American government is interfering in Malaysia's internal affairs and supporting the opposition? And if the US government is happy with Najib's efforts, then where is the logic in supporting Anwar and the opposition?

Americk Gesa Siasat Najib Kow Tow Kepada Singapura

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 08:08 AM PDT

Musa Gaji Tinggi Tapi Gagal Tangani Masalah Jenayah Semakin Serius

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 08:07 AM PDT

Death of PTD officer: Umno-linked company off the hook?

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 07:25 AM PDT

Free Malaysia Today

By Rahmah Ghazali TUE, 13 JUL 2010 18:00

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Izzah Anwar today questioned the government's decision not to charge the company responsible for training diplomatic and administrative officers with Nor Hashimah Wahid's death on May 31.

Nurul Izzah said the Umno-linked company, Tuntas Consultancy Sdn Bhd, was awarded a government contract to oversee the training centres and as such, should also be held responsible.

She said it was grossly unfair to only "transfer" the six government officers involved in the programme and "free" the company, which is owned by the off-springs of former Higher Education Minister and ex-Kuala Langat MP Shafie Salleh.

"Why are the government servants made the scapegoats?

"If it is true that the contract was given to Tuntas, why are their instructors let off the hook?" she asked.

She has also questioned the type of training provided by the firm and the quality of the instructors.

Nor Hashimah, who fell unconscious during the commando-style training, died after drifting in and out of consciousness for four days. She died of severe pneumonia with multiple organ failure.

Following this, many reports have indicated that the 30-year-old mother was "bullied" and was even made to drink a "stocking juice" by an instructor at Selangor Enforcement Training Centre in Jugra, Banting.

Nor Hashimah's family has alleged that the camp management only took her to Banting Hospital when her condition worsened and she had breathing difficulties.

She was warded for a day but was forced to continue with her training after her discharge.

Nurul Izzah also expressed her disappointment with the ex-gratia settlement paid by the government to the victim's family as compensation.

"The payment made is nothing out of the ordinary as it is usually paid to those who died of natural causes (unlike Nor Hashimah's)," she said.

Who actually lies here...Anwar, Muhyiddin or Rais?

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 07:24 AM PDT

Now... which is which. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday accused Anwar Ibrahim of paying the CNN for his interview in the 'Connect The World' programme, while the CNN today denied such an accusation, saying it was fabricated (read here).

In a related issue, former US ambassador to Malaysia Mr John Malott wrote in Malaysiakini that Rais Yatim and whoever accused the Opposition Leader of becoming a CIA agent should apologise not only to him but also to the US and Malaysian premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, arguing that Washington was never involved in any espionage mission in this country.

And of course those with the accusation were asked to come up with proof and tangible evidence, whether Anwar is really a CIA agent (here) and whether he really paid a sum of money to CNN just to have him interviewed on the programme.

A CNN spokesperson said today it was disturbing that no effort was made to contact the network and "independently verify these groundless allegations before they were subsequently reported as fact". Over the past few days, a number of people had commented about Anwar's appearance on the CNN programme.

They had based their comments on an article by Joshua Trevino in The Ledger, a US online publication, which was also quoted by one or two local newspapers in Malaysia. Trevino had only alluded to the fact that those who had been hired by Anwar to run his public relations campaign in the United States had solid media contacts.

Malott wrote, "...it amazes me that today people in Malaysia still continue to disseminate the nonsense that Anwar is a CIA agent for their own political gain. I dealt with this issue 10 years ago in an article I wrote for Malaysiakini ('Anwar was never an American spy', Sept 2, 2000) in which I said categorically that Anwar is not and never has been an American agent.

"If I was lying 10 years ago, then why couldn't Mahathir - after 22 years in control of the Special Branch - prove me wrong? And why hasn't anyone been able to prove it in the seven years since Mahathir left power? Why can't they prove it today, instead of relying on the ramblings of mountain top bloggers in New York? Why hasn't Anwar ever been arrested on espionage charges?"

And then, former premier Tun Dr Mahathir who said Anwar was not loyal to the country for associating himself with Jews and the CIA, has also been accused of 'not being loyal to Malaysia for engaging Salomon Smith Barney and Goldman Sach during the economic downturn in 1997, as reported by Malaysiakini titled Mahathir a creation of the US?.

Excerpt:
"Mahathir reconciled with George Soros, a Jew he once despised, when Soros visited Malaysia a few years ago and openly declared (for reasons which are still a mystery) that Soros was not responsible for Malaysia's financial crisis.

Jack Abramaoff, a Jew, arranged a meeting between Mahathir and former US president George W Bush after Mahathir's government paid US$1.2m to the Heritage Foundation that was managed by Abramaoff.

These are just some of the instances of Mahathir-Jewish partnerships. So who is the good friend of the Jews? Mahathir or Anwar?"

FOOTNOTE: I would
like to ask the readers and Malaysians - Do you like all this?

FOR WHOM ARE THE BELLS TOLLING?

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 06:27 AM PDT

*Ding dong* The door bell rings. The clerk stops hammering the keyboard and heaves a soft sigh. She wipes the sweat off her brow, gets up from her chair, straightens her skirt and slowly walks to the door.

*Creaks* The door opens and lo and behold, who does she see?

Two officials with two documents in their hands asking for the person-in-charge.

Now is that the opening gambit of a novel I am writing? Nope. It is a fictionalized account from my fertile imagination of what might have happened this afternoon at the DAP headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Malaysiakini reports HERE that DAP's The Rocket was not spared by the Home Ministry in the ongoing crackdown on party organs of opposition parties. Two Home Ministry officials visited the DAP headquarters in Petaling Jaya this afternoon and handed two show-cause letters to Rocket's Chinese-language editor, one for the English edition and the other for the Chinese edition asking the party organ to explain within seven days why it continues publishing the two versions although their publication permits have expired. If the explanation is rejected by the powerful ministry, The Rocket could face suspension.

According to Malaysiakini, the permit for the English version of the DAP mouthpiece expired last month, whereas the licences for the Malay- and Chinese-language editions respectively expired in September and November last year. The fate for the Rocket's Malay edition is hanging in the air.

As we all know, two other opposition party organs have run into trouble - PKR's Suara Keadilan was suspended last week while PAS' Harakah is being issued two show-cause letters.

Also, PKR Supreme Council Member, Badrul Hisham Shaharin , who is also known as cikgu Bard, was detained at the Seremban Police headquarters last week.

Obviously, the bells are tolling and the muzzling has begun. Proponents of democracy believe that archaic methods of tight control which will not work in a borderless world. Such overtures are sending a different message to the populace and what are the deeper implications with regards to reporting? We can wonder and wonder and may never know the answers because once again, the sword of Damocles is hanging over our heads.

For whom are the bells tolling and what might happen next?

That Idiot Murphy!

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 05:45 AM PDT

If you're looking for a natural fat burner then I advise you join the advertising and print industry. Trust me, on a bad day, you'd probably be able to lose a couple of kilos just from stress alone!

Everything that could go wrong (and extremely at that) went wrong yesterday. Murphy's law really shone brightly for me yesterday. I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me whole.

I had an installation of a signage to supervise yesterday at one of my clients place, an international IT company. They wanted a signage that we did for them a while back rectified as it was showing signs of breakdown. An important overseas guest was arriving for a visit at their place the next day and they wanted the signage looking spiffy for this client.

Apparently the guest was pretty important cos everyone there was busy with preparations to welcome him. So there we were trying to fix the signage when I discovered that the printouts we made was not right. It was already 6pm by then.

So I informed the client that we may need to reprint it but may not have enough time to get it ready for his clients visit tomorrow. He was not at all pleased. He suggested maybe we could adjust the spot lights so that it wouldn't shine too much on the signage and nobody might notice the colours of the signage wasn't perfect.

As I was adjusting the spotlights, it just blew up on me with a loud pop sending the place into total darkness. Everyone came running out to the reception to see what caused the blackout and there I was on top of the reception table with a blown out spotlight unit in my hands.

Quite a few people were utterly annoyed with me cos they were working on presentations for tomorrows event and files were not saved and all that. That's when the boss came out and he was even more annoyed with the whole thing when he found out that there was a problem with the signage and the lights were out.

No big deal, right? Just switch the power back on, simple as that. But to everyone's dismay and my horror, the mains couldn't be switched back on. That's when things got really bad. The boss then looked at me, turned to his staff and said in the harshest voice he could muster,

'NOBODY LEAVES THIS PLACE UNTIL EVERYTHING IS FIXED!'

Then he looks at me and says,

'I DON'T CARE HOW BUT YOU FIND AN ELECTRICIAN AND GET THAT SIGNAGE DONE BY TONIGHT!'

Everyone just glares at me and having about 20 pairs of eyes that were giving you this death stare was worse than having to deal with a horde of angry elephants! As if that wasn't enough, the boss calls me into the conference room and gives me a chewing out that made me wish the floor would open and swallow me alive.

The worse thing was that I had to find an electrician to get to the place cos the building maintenance people had already left for home. I had no idea where to look for an electrician at that time of day. Next I had to tell my installer that I needed him to stay back and re-do the signage for me and he was none to pleased either. That made 21 pairs of eyes giving me the stare.

I honestly felt like crying and running away and hiding in some dark empty closet. But I think there was someone up there looking out for idiots like me cos one of the staff there came to my rescue by saying that her dad was an electrician and she would call him to come over and check out the mains ... phewwwwww ... the biggest problem taken care off.

To cut a long story short, it took about 3 hours plus to get the lights back which was somewhere around 10.00pm and then another hour or so to fix the signage and by the time everything was over, I was on the verge of collapsing. I don't even remember how I drove home. I was so stressed out and may have lost a couple of pounds from all that stress.

Like I said, if you're looking to burn fat, join the advertising and print industry and you'll be a scarecrow in no time! The moral of the story is don't ever wait till the last minute to do things cos if something bad was going to happen, it will!

Open Letter to My Son – Why don’t you just go watch TV

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 03:33 AM PDT

Dear Miki,

You are cute!

Yeah, I just wanna tell you that… because you always manage to make me melt. You have the ability to make me scream with anger too, but the next moment after the atomic bomb from inside my head exploded, you heal me back again with you cheeky antics.

I love you very much kid! Now you are 2 years and 5 months old. Very small you are but very smart and manipulative. You always have me wrapped around your finger to all of your advantages.

Miki,

I have the time to write this down because you have found a new hobby that keeps you so occupied I don't only manage to blog, I also get to shampoo my hair.Yeah, the clingy time has passed now you are much more interested in the TV.

To watch Spongebob Squarepant!

Sing it! Who lives in a pinneapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants!
Absorbent and yellow and porous is he? SpongeBob SquarePants!

Sorry..I…just… can't…get… that…song… outta…my..head…

Miki, I always let you have as much as fun as you want with the show not because the awfully annoying, dreadfully irritating, despicably nasal but  hilariously funny yellow absorbent creature WILL EVER BE A GOOD INFLUENCE but what the hell, you have been speaking English lately!

You are learning well, that's awesome! Who cares who the teacher is… Not all teachers are nice ok! Like have you not seen Karate Kid?

Ok, I know it's not fair to let an absurd cartoon character take my place in introducing you to your second language but hey! you gave me the e.p.i.s.i.o.t.o.m.y!! so we are even ok, baby?!

Here are pictures of different styles of you concentrating on Spongebob.

The "Gosh I can see Patrick's nose from here!" style.

The "Why is this pillow so hard, oh it's my Daddy's leg" style

The " I am not taking my eyes off Mr Krabs even when my Mom asks me to pose for picture" style.

The "Minum Susu while Menonggeng and see Spongebob flips Krabby Patties" style.

The "Suspense giler Spongebob jumpa hantu robot kat Kedai Toys maka aku menyorok belakang meja" style.

Miki, I liked to watch this cartoon myself but now I rather watch you watching it. It's really funny of you but I like the fact that you can understand a whole lot of stuff going on in that show even when they are in English. I want you to continue telling the story back to me in you own words because it really reflects your understanding and analytical thinking. But the funniest thing is when you get really nervous at the suspense parts in the show started to hide behind the couch or like the picture above, behind the leg on my coffee table.

Over ok? Tu katun je! takyah nak feeling-feeling bagai!

Miki, I am not gonna be hard on you. I think you are such an awesome kid. You are gonna have your childhood the fun way. You are a baby, so I am gonna let you be a baby.

Enjoy your life kid, Mummy and Daddy loves you very much! Be good!

Love,
Mummy

Inkues Teoh: Porntip Bersetuju Datang Ke Malaysia

Posted: 13 Jul 2010 03:27 AM PDT
