Meet Ah Wei, a Chinese in a Malay house

Meet Ah Wei, a Chinese in a Malay house

Meet Ah Wei, a Chinese in a Malay house

To those racists out there, I have something to tell you. Either you are Malays, Chinese, Indians or Sikh or what, lets see if you can do this. I am not ringing my own bell but I think I am more 'Malaysian' than you people who bicker about race, religion and color.

After 53 years of Independence, we should be as one - living in harmony, solid cooperation and trust. And to our Prime Minister Najib, your 1Malaysia is nothing new to me. Why? I have been practicing it long before you introduced it to our Malaysians.

With special reference to the Chinese and Malaysians in general, meet this chap - Ah Wei, 29, born and brought up in Raub, Pahang. Got married at the age of 21 to a beautiful lady who later left and deserted him for another guy, a few months after giving birth to a baby girl. Yee Ling, now in standard one at a SRJK (C) in Cheras (not in picture) never met or knew her mom.

Ah Wei took her to Kuala Lumpur when she was three, leaving her to one babysitter to another. Sweet girl she is now (and brilliant), she joins her father on weekends and school holidays.

Their meeting point is my house. Why? Ah Wei has been staying with me for almost three years now, in our single-storey terrace rented house. I saw him and Yee Ling in 2007, sitting at a canteen for hours, without eating nor drinking. My heart was more for the small girl who was crying then. I approached them, asked questions and that was how it started.

Ah Wei has two other siblings who live 'quite OK' in KL but they refused him because he is a bit illiterate and doing odd jobs. His talent is more in air-conditioning maintenance but it was not easy for him to get a job. He used to run a small business but his partner screwed him all around. It left him destitute, without a dime for a room and food.

So I offered him a room. My family objected then but after convincing them that we must be human, they finally agreed. Nope, I never collected a single sen for the room. I help him, instead in getting small contracts so that he can afford his daughter's monthly allowances and her babysitter's fee.

He eats what we eat. Unless he needs his own type of food, he will have it outside. As a blogger, I am not rich but I support both of them within my capability and affordability. We became good friends and he is nice to us. His brothers will come and visit him once in a while but they never invited him to stay with them. On my part, he is free to go when he is okay, financially but I never ask him to. His Bahasa Malaysia has improved much (ha ha) and we keep on learning Mandarin from him.

Almost three years with us, none of my family members has tried to persuade him to embrace Islam. The only thing about Islam that he asked me was when he followed me to pay tithes last week, and I explained. He is still very much a Chinese and a Buddhist. I am glad that we dont talk race, religion or color. And we are all happy.

So, to some readers who accused me of being a racist in their comments, I appreciate it. However, you dont really know what racism is. I dont think you understand what 1Malaysia is all about. And I dont think any Chinese out there can take a Malay to stay with you. I will salute any of you who dares to challenge me to talk 1Malaysia or to offer Ah Wei a job or a shelter. Anybody? Will you do the same? I doubt it.

So, stop accusing me of being a racist and mirror yourself. After 53 years of Independence, your prejudice gets thicker and thicker!

Prominent media hosts equate Christian and Muslim violence By Dennis Prager

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 08:21 AM PDT

There was one thing more than any other that turned this New York, liberal, Jewish, Columbia University graduate student away from modern liberalism: its use of moral equivalence to avoid confronting evil during the Cold War.

There was a time when liberalism was identified with anti-Communism. But the Vietnam War led liberals into the arms of the Left, which had been morally confused about Communism since its inception and had become essentially pacifist following the carnage of World War I.

After the Vietnam War, even liberals who continued to describe Communism as evil were labeled "right-wingers" and "Cold Warriors." And the United States, with its moral flaws, was often likened to the Soviet Union. I recall asking the preeminent liberal historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr., in a public forum in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, if he would say that the United States was a morally superior society to the Soviet Union. He would not.

Little has changed regarding the Left's inability to identify and confront evil. Its moral equation of good guys and bad guys was made evident again in recent weeks by hosts on three major liberal networks: ABC, National Public Radio (NPR), and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

First, on May 25, PBS host Tavis Smiley interviewed Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the ex-Muslim Somali writer and activist for human, especially women's, rights in Islamic countries. After mentioning American Muslim terrorists Major Nidal Hasan (who murdered 13 fellow soldiers and injured 30 others at Fort Hood) and Faisal Shahzad (who attempted to murder hundreds in Times Square), this dialogue ensued:

Ali: "Somehow, the idea got into their [Hasan's and Shahzad's] minds that to kill other people is a great thing to do and that they would be rewarded in the hereafter."

Smiley: "But Christians do that every single day in this country."

Ali: "Do they blow people up?"

Smiley: "Yes. Oh, Christians, every day, people walk into post offices, they walk into schools, that's what Columbine is — I could do this all day long. There are so many more examples of Christians — and I happen to be a Christian.

"There are so many more examples, Ayaan, of Christians who do that than you could ever give me examples of Muslims who have done that inside this country, where you live and work."

Then, on August 22, Michel Martin, host of NPR's Tell Me More, in discussing whether the Islamic Center and mosque planned for near Ground Zero should be moved, said this on CNN's Reliable Sources with Howard Kurtz: "Should anybody move a Catholic church? Did anybody move a Christian church after Timothy McVeigh, who adhered to a cultic white supremacist cultic version of Christianity, bombed [the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City]?"

And third, on August 26, ABC 20/20 anchor Chris Cuomo tweeted this to his nearly 1 million followers: "To all my christian brothers and sisters, especially catholics – before u condemn muslims for violence, remember the crusades . . . . study them."

I have known Tavis Smiley since the 1980s, when we both worked at the same radio station in Los Angeles. He is smart, and he is a gentleman who has accorded me great respect both on and off the air.

How, then, does such a man equate Muslims who murder in the name of Islam with Americans who "murder every day," none of whom commit their murders in the name of Christianity?

How does Michel Martin equate the thousands of Islamic terrorists around the world, all of whom are devout Muslims, with a single American (one who professed no religion at all)?

And how does ABC's Chris Cuomo claim that Christians cannot condemn Muslims for violence because of the Christian Crusades?

First of all, the Crusades occurred a thousand years ago. One might as well argue that Jews cannot condemn Christian and secular anti-Semitic violence because Jews destroyed Canaanite communities 3,200 years ago.

Second, it is hardly a defense of Muslims to cite comparable Christian conduct that occurred a thousand years ago.

Third, even if we do compare the Crusades with contemporary Islamic jihadism, there is little moral equivalence. The Crusades were waged in order to recapture lands that had been Christian for centuries until Muslim armies attacked them. (Some Crusaders also massacred whole Jewish communities in Germany on the way to the Holy Land, and that was a grotesque evil — which Church officials condemned at the time.) As the dean of Western Islamic scholars, Princeton professor Bernard Lewis, has written, "The Crusades could more accurately be described as a limited, belated and, in the last analysis, ineffectual response to the jihad — a failed attempt to recover by a Christian holy war what had been lost to a Muslim holy war."

So how did Tavis Smiley, Michel Martin, and Chris Cuomo make such morally egregious statements?

The answer is not that these are bad people, or that they are not repulsed by terrorist violence.

The answer is leftism, the way of looking at the world that permeates high schools, universities, and the news and entertainment media. Those indoctrinated by leftist thinking become largely incapable of making accurate moral judgments. They once regarded America and the Soviet Union as morally similar. Today, they claim that the people they call Christian "extremists" (who are they?) and Islamist terrorists and their supporters pose equal threats to America and to the world.

That is how bright and decent people become moral relativists and thereby undermine the battles against the greatest evils — Communist totalitarianism in its time, and Islamic totalitarianism in ours.

The only solution is to keep exposing leftist moral confusion. One problem, however, is that in countries without talk radio, an equivalent to the Wall Street Journal editorial page, conservative columnists, and a vigorous anti-Left political party, this is largely impossible.

The other major problem is that the media that dominate American life have little problem — indeed, they largely concur — with the foolish and dangerous comments made by their mainstream-media colleagues. That is why these comments, worthy of universal moral condemnation, were ignored by the mainstream (i.e., left-wing) media. Instead, they directed mind-numbing attention and waves of opprobrium toward Dr. Laura.

Those who don't fight real evils fight imaginary ones. National Review

Now Najib has a diehard fan - Namewee, the 1Malaysia ambassador!

August 31, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 – Controversial song writer Wee Meng Chee presented himself to police here tonight in connection with a probe into whether he committed sedition over a music video he posted on Youtube, and declared himself the personification of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's 1 Malaysia.
Wee, better known as Namewee, had posted the video which contained trademark utterances of vulgarities and obscenities in response to  an incident involving a Johor school principal who allegedly made racist remarks to her pupils.
He arrived tonight at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station in a grey BMW accompanied by his lawyer at 9.20pm.
Namewee, wearing a green shirt with a white beanie cap, told reporters that he was not racist, in response to accusations from Umno politicians.
"It doesn't mean that If I see something wrong in my country, I will remain quiet because I am Malaysian. I am anti-racism and support 1 Malaysia," he said in the police station parking lot.
Late last night Namewee posted on his Facebook page that policemen in three patrol cars came to his house in Muar to arrest him.
"3 POLICE CARS FINALLY CAME TO MY MUAR HOME TO ARREST ME***** this happened 15 minutes before our 53rd National Day Celebration, YES, I'm still here but for how long more, I don't know ... my beloved MALAYSIA, where is our justice system?! (THIS IS NOT A JOKE)," said Namewee in a message that attracted more than 3,000 comments from Facebook users.
However earlier today Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Amer Awal told The Malaysian Insider that there has been no plan yet to arrest Namewee.
"Not true, not true, we are still investigating his case," Amer told The Malaysian Insider.
Namewee is under investigation for allegedly producing a seditious music video which was uploaded on YouTube.
The video was a reaction to SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra principal Siti Inshah Mansor's alleged racist remarks to her pupils.
He removed the video from the video sharing site following public disapproval.
The Taiwanese graduate first made headlines in 2007, after he produced a music video purportedly ridiculing the national anthem and the Islamic call for prayer.
The recent video resulted in calls for government to take stern action against Namewee, including arresting him under the ISA and revoking his citizenship.
Namewee said tonight that he believes he has the support of the public.
"This is why I am ready to cooperate with the police officers. I believe that the police will support me in anti-racism and I believe the country will support me," he said.
"I am mentally healthy, I have no injuries and I will not commit suicide," he said.

Muslim By Default By Scott Wheeler

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 08:11 AM PDT

Editors' note: this piece is co-authored by Buckley Carlson

The so-called "mainstream media" has spent the past week trying to determine how anywhere from one fifth to one quarter of the American people could conclude that President Obama is a Muslim. The commentary has almost universally condemned Americans as "ignorant," "ill-informed," "racist," or "bigoted," asserting disdainfully that it's "obvious" that Obama is a Christian.
"Obvious?" What IS obvious is what the media has overlooked: themselves, President Obama, and Muslims.

Author, and proud Muslim, Asma Gull Hasan wrote in February 2009 Forbes Magazine that "since Election Day, I have been part of more and more conversations with Muslims in which it was either offhandedly agreed that Obama is Muslim or enthusiastically blurted out. In commenting on our new president, 'I have to support my fellow Muslim brother,' would slip out of my mouth before I had a chance to think twice."

But the mainstream media is now mocking the increasing number of Americans who believe Obama is a Muslim. Well now that we shown that those Americans are in agreement with these Muslims, does this make the Muslims bigoted or the media?

Had they done their job investigating Barack Obama during the last election, then Americans might have a better handle on even the basic dimensions of America's 44th president. But the media completely abdicated its responsibility, failing to provide any coverage skeptical of the Obama campaign's own tightly scripted narrative.

So invested were they in Obama's victory, the mainstream media ignored, or in some cases, actively jeered at any story lines that called into question Obama's fitness for office. This included his shocking lack of experience; his decades-long association with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn and his anti-American "minister," Jeremiah Wright; his relationship with now-convicted tax-evader and all around sleazy character Tony Rezko or his father's Muslim heritage.

Remember, this is the media that so thoroughly browbeat a third-tier surrogate of the McCain campaign for referring to "Barack Hussein Obama", that John McCain himself subsequently declared, publicly, that his opponent's middle name was henceforth off limits. [And speaking of names, you would have been fortunate, indeed, to discover the fact that Obama had for decades answered to the groovy, 70's moniker, "Barry" until it became politically advantageous for him to adopt "Barack" as his ethnic-novelty name.]

But nothing earned the media's contempt during the '08 election quite like the suggestion, however muted, that Obama might be a Muslim...or might harbor Socialist ideals. Any purveyor of such outlandish rumors was met with fierce derision. This, even after Obama was filmed declaring his intention to "spread the wealth around," and even after he was taped at a wine and cheese party in San Francisco, attacking Christians for "clinging to their guns and religion."

So miserably deficient was the campaign coverage - and so deficient has been the ongoing "investigative" coverage of the man in office -- that the American people have simply been left to fill the void on their own...often with Obama's distortions and fabrications about Islam's greatness.

Obama's actions have led many Americans to conclude that he must be Muslim. Who can blame them? Not only did he declare that America was no longer a Christian nation, but he also claimed that America is the world's largest Muslim nation. He supports the Ground Zero Mosque, and he is on record saying he "will stand with them" whenever they face attack. Significantly, he refuses to acknowledge that radical Islam has declared war against us.

It isn't just Obama's overt Islamic advocacy. It's also that so many Americans now recognize his inherent dishonesty. They no longer trust him because he smears his critics with outrageous falsehoods, with the hope that he'll polarize the majority of people in his direction. Fortunately, he underestimated Americans' distrust of his fawning allies in the mainstream media.

And Americans' distrust of the media is so deep that if the media insists that Obama is a Christian, then a sizeable segment will automatically embrace the exact opposite position. So when the Washington Post demanded recently that Obama is a Christian (obviously!), the majority of the relative few who read it must have immediately concluded there was a good reason to believe otherwise.

Despite all the noise, diversion, and debate, we remain steadfast in our opinion: Obama may not be a Muslim...but he sure as communion couldn't be a true Christian; otherwise, the mainstream media and other Democrats would despise him. Town Hall

Apa Ada Pada Perkasa?

Lawan Perkasa Anwar bukan Nurul Izzah, kata Ibrahim Ali

Berhingus pun dah pandai jual maruah bangsa," kata Presiden Perkasa Datuk Ibrahim Ali (gambar).

Justeru, tambah Ibrahim beliau sebenarnya menentang pendirian bapa Nurul Izzah, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yang juga Ketua Umum Pakatan Rakyat.

"Lawan saya bapa beliau, bukan beliau (Nurul Izzah).

-TMI

Ibrahim perlu baca semula konsep 1 Malaysia, kata Umno

-TMI

Ulasan GB

Ibrahim kononnya pejuang bangsa. Ibrahim akan terjun dengan keris-kerisnya!

Will 1Malaysia PM do the right thing?

Ok, I just found out that the police have denied that song writer and young filmmaker Wee Meng Chee is under arrest, or that they are pursuing.

namewee name wee 1malaysia film 160310When contacted by Malaysiakini, Muar district police chief Mohammed Nasir Ramli said, "No, no, no. We are not going to arrest him."

Nasir confirmed that the police had indeed go to the youngster's house in Muar yesterday night, but said that it was for other purpose.

Before ending the telephone interview, he tersely said, "We just want to find out where he is."
Yeah, right. Nasir. How believable is that? Just to find out where he was? If he was in the house, then what? Just say 'Hi' and 'Bye'?!

Hare-brained Acts

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 03:40 AM PDT

Until today, I have not written any post about the two principals who made certain statements about a segment of the Malaysian population because I am so sick and fed up with racist issues. Unfortunately, Namewee joined the fray with his controversial YouTube video posting and is now being investigated for sedition.

There are those who alleged he was stirring up ethnic tensions in the multicultural nation and making a big thing about it the other two have been given paid leave.

Honestly, I wonder if some have any brains at all.

Before taking such severe action against Namewee, they ought to have known how the rakyat feel about the many cases of double standards in our country.

Just a few points that I want to raise this evening. I am trying to be as objective as I can in this situation.

A. The Two Principals

1. If the principals could just go around apologizing for what they said and come out of the scene unscathed despite over 20 police reports lodged against them, how come the same does not apply for Namewee?

2. Note that no disciplinary action has been taken against the two heads. As they are heads of schools, shouldn't there be disciplinary action to deter others, especially students, from following this disrespectful act?

3. How come there seems to be an eerie silence from many politicians about the two principals?

4. More has to be done by the authorities concerned with regards to these two principals. How can they continue to command the respect of staff and students alike in the light of the huge public outcry which has offset so many posts written online and in print media?

5. The authorities concerned must be aware of the deeper implications and not just allow an apology or two to persuade them to brush this off and yet flex their muscles with Namewee.

B. Namewee

1. The fact that he has a large fan base, predominantly youth, means he is an influential opinion leader and one who should espouse good values and NOT indulge in any form of implied or direct vulgarities. However, the video can be deemed as offensive even if his intention is good.

The fact remains that he should demonstrate exemplary behavior and speech to impact youth and Malaysians positively but has he? Has he thought of the effect of his raps on youth? In 2007, I had a tough time convincing my students that his version of Negaruku anthem was wrong. Many followed suit using his lingo much to my dismay!

We may feel strongly about certain issues but I firmly believe that we have to exercise responsibility in the way we express our feelings and not to sink to a lower level just because of a cause.

2. There are other ways to condemn racism elegantly without resorting to such connotations in the medium of communication. Tact, sensitivity and rational thinking are needed to communicate effectively without leaving a bad taste in the mouth of the audience.

3. The fact that he made national headlines three years ago over another YouTube clip mocking the national anthem which authorities also said was seditious ought to have made him wiser but it does not seem to have worked that way. Again, what sort of example is he setting? He apologised for that incident and in that respect took the same route as the principals but obviously apologies don't work!! So the authorities concerned should do more than just accept the apologies of the two principals but are they willing to go the distance?

4. Is it a deliberate attempt to partake in anti-establishment counterculture (which is definitely NOT Malaysian in nature) to ride on the wave of popularity? I have not let my son watch the video which I find vulgar, crude and disrespectful to various groups of people. However, is it seditious?

5. Knowing full well the implications of racism etc, what Namewee did certainly has not made the situation any better. In fact, it has exacerbated the situation very badly.

At the end of the day, whatever unfair action taken will certainly drive more Malaysians to the PR side instead of wooing them back to BN.

To me, BOTH the principals and Namewee have done wrong in many ways and I am not going to moralize about it.

The fact remains that this incident shows up the fact that many do not think before they speak or act. We live in a multi-cultural society and it is up to us to make it a better place for all.

Forget about hidden agenda or whatever moral crusade. This is our world and we had better be more responsible in the way we communicate and relate to one another. The time has come for the authorities concerned to remove the scales from their eyes and to be fair in the way they handle the situation lest it is blown out of proportion.

No more hare-brained acts or videos please! If one has a responsibility over others, execute these intelligently. If one has talent, use that talent elegantly in such a way that it impacts the population positively. There are appropriate channels to voice our grouses or to achieve fame.

And to think all this happened before our country's 53rd birthday!

Sighs.

Black-Listed: Rakyat Takkan Bayar Satu Sen Pun Kepada JPJ Dan Polis

Nak mengadu kat menteri, pergilah mengadu hatta PM sekalipun.

Apa lagi kamu nak? Nak bunuh semua rakyat yang tak nak bayar? Bunuhlah!

GB Jawab 2 orang Yang Menonjol Diri Sebagai Ulamak

Zul Noordin: Ironis bukan Islam masuk surau

Fathul Bari dituduh bawah Seksyen 53 Enakmen Jenayah Syariah 2003 Negeri Sembilan.

-MK

Ulasan GB

Ini betul-betul dua ekor ular dalam semak.

Pertama: Kedua-duanya menuduh YB Teo menyampaikan "tazkirah".

Nak kata apa lagi?

Kamu menuduh DAP kafir harbi.

For Merdeka Day

May we really embody the colours of Merdeka and not be hypocrites. We may say something but the media says something else. Especially media which panders to their own racial group and become 'batu api'.

May we really mean what we say when we say we are one nation. This nation consists of people who were never natives to begin with. We're all migrants, with mixed ancestries and blood. The only true natives are the ones who still need our help.

May we really honour each other and respect each other. I don't want to 'tolerate' you because in my mind, tolerate just means I need patience because I need to bear with you.

May we truly understand what being sensitive is about. Let's not be sensitive about the wrong issues. Why can't there be healthy discussion and debate? Why must everything be "you don't know, therefore you should not comment"?

May we truly be sincere when we say we want to become better Malaysians. That means stop bribing the cops, stop acting like the bourgeoisie that you are, stop pushing your kids to be top scorers, stop throwing rubbish, stop being stupid and juvenile.

May we understand that the enemy is not within. There has never been an enemy within. The enemy is all in your head.

May we live up to what Yasmin always imagined in her mini story adverts.

May we celebrate our freedom and independence from shortsightedness and mediocrity.

May we celebrate the uniqueness that we are Malaysian.

Selamat Menyambut Hari Merdeka to you and me. We need to remind ourselves what 53 years of independence really mean. Especially now. Especially when this is as much my home as it is yours.

Negara Dijajah Yahudi APCO, Mau Jerit MERDEKA Lagikah?

Kerajaan Upah 'Konsultan Luar', Negara Merdeka?

Benarkah Malaysia benar-benar merdeka ?

-TVS

Merdeka: Anwar selar 'pelampau peralat sentimen'

-mk

Malay Rights And A Malay Woman

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 09:04 PM PDT

Malaysia's future first woman PM, Nurul Izzah will be disappointed because Ibrahim Ali will not risk his Perkasa all in a single debate with a woman, of all creatures! Mind you this is not ONLY about Malay Rights. It is as much about the Malay Muslim Woman in Malaysia.

Come on Ibrahim! It is obvious you have the gall...let's see if you have the gumption.

This was in the Malaysian Insider:

Nurul Izzah wants clarification from Perkasa on where they are going with their agenda.

Nurul Izzah wants Malay rights debate with Perkasa By Yow Hong Chieh August 31, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar today invited Perkasa to a public debate on Malay rights, contending that the question of Malay special rights should be put to the King and the people of Malaysia.

Her invitation to the Malay rights group appeared to be an attempt to contain Datuk Ibrahim Ali's growing influence on policy by locating his discourse squarely within the democratic process.

Referencing Article 153 of the Federal Constitution - which Perkasa says grants "Malays rights" in perpetuity — Nurul pointed out that the article only specified that Malays be given a special position and should, in fact, to be interpreted in light of Articles 8(1) and 8(2) by the King or a body appointed by him.

Article 8(1) states: "All persons are equal before the law and entitled to the equal protection of the law"; and Article 8(2): "Except as expressly authorised by this Constitution, there shall be no discrimination against citizens on the ground only of religion, race, descent or place of birth in any law relating to the acquisition, holding or disposition of property or the establishing or carrying on of any trade, business, profession, vocation or employment."

"It would be ideal to have a mandated entity such as a Constitutional Court or at least a Constitutional Council appointed by the King to act as the final interpreter of any constitutional issues," Nurul said, adding that the judiciary, which already deals with constitutional matters, would also have a role to play.

Alternatively, she proposed a possible solution in the form of a legally binding referendum, while simultaneously challenging Perkasa to both a dialogue through open letters as well as a televised debate.

Nurul argued that "Malay rights", as envisioned by Perkasa, were an ideological and philosophical construct that was not rooted in either the constitution or law.

"My question to Perkasa is, has the concept of 'Malay rights' now become a permanent convention that supersedes even the written constitution in policy and practice that has to be accepted by all non-Malay citizens?" she asked.

"My question to Perkasa is, spiritually and intellectually, does a Malay accepts injustices, power abuse, corruption, racism, anti-democratic laws, state institutional degradation to ensure that the Malays are a Supreme Race in Malaysia, with first class citizenship privileges not to be shared with other non-Malay citizens?"

She added that it was important to note that the Reid Commission, which drafted the constitution, had seen Article 153 as temporary measure, subject to review after 15 years by Parliament, before it was institutionalised into the NEP following the 1969 race riots.

Arguing that Malaysia was at a "monumental cross-road", Nurul hammered home the point that it ultimately came down to the people to decide if Ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy) or Ketuanan Rakyat (people's supremacy) was going to define Malaysia.

"Once the next general election outcome is determined, and if 'Ketuanan Melayu' is victorious, then some may choose to vote with their feet (emigrate with massive brain drain and a diminishing tax base), and some will choose to vote with their wallet (domestic capital flight compounded with decreasing FDI that further stunts our economic growth), which in turn will indicate the makings of a potential failed state with irreversible consequences," she warned.

"What is left will be a shell of a former Malaysia that could have been a great example of a democratic and pluralistic nation to the world."

Now Nurul Izzah wants to start a newspaper

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 08:51 PM PDT

FreeMalaysiaToday By Teoh El Sen

MON, 30 AUG 2010 21:29

PUTRAJAYA: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar is planning to start her very own newspaper, which would be a Malay daily called "Utusan Rakyat".

The PKR leader earlier today submitted a letter of intent to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein at the latter's office to assist in speeding up her application for a publication permit.

Nurul Izzah's application comes in the wake of the Home Ministry's recent decision not to renew the permit of Suara Keadilan, a PKR news organ, after the permit expired on June 30.

The ministry had sent a show-cause letter seeking explanation over several articles, including the one entitled "Felda Bangkrap"(Felda bankrupt). Felda has since filed a suit against the paper over the "bankruptcy" allegation.

Asked if "Utusan Rakyat" was a revival or a spin-off from Suara Keadilan, Nurul Izzah said: "This is going to be different, it is not a party organ. We are going to be non-partisan. We will be free and independent."

She said the paper would focus on national issues alongside with another PKR-linked Malay weekly "Mingguan Era", which focuses on local issues in the Klang Valley. She also welcomed funds or contributions from writers.

Nurul Izzah, who will act as the editor-in-chief, said she was applying for a permit in her personal capacity as a citizen of Malaysia and not as an MP or politician.

She said the paper would be funded by several business individuals and activists.

Constructive engagement

Nurul Izzah said that her application form, which requires a mock-up of the first issue for the ministry, will be sent in by Sept 16.

"I hope the minister would grant us the licence," she said.

"After Umno leaders had alleged that I am a traitor and that I had jeopardised national security, I realised that we needed to have constructive engagement on policy issues," Nurul said, adding that the submarine issue was based on official information in Parliament.

Hishammuddin had said Nurul Izzah had bad-mouthed the country abroad when commenting on an interview she gave to an Indonesian newspaper recently.

In the interview, she was alleged to have belittled the capabilityof the country's submarines.

Nurul Izzah said the aim of starting the newspaper was to create a platform for constructive engagement of all parties to better develop the country.

"Also, our prime minister recently said that we now have better media freedom today, and I would like to challenge and put his statement to the test," she said.

She added that she would like to prove that freedom of speech really exists after 53 years of independence.

"The paper aims to raise the country's image by proving that Malaysia is truly democratic and also to increase the confidence of Malaysians as well as foreign investors," she said.

"This is also to fulfil my wish to not only speak out on foreign soil but also in our beloved Malaysia," she said.

SYABAS NIE CHING : UMNO BILA LAGI

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 09:23 PM PDT

Terkadang – kadang diperhatian lagak mereka laksana seperti kumpulan itik pulang senja sahaja.
