Happy Anniversary

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 09:50 AM PDT

A day after mid autumn festival is my parent wedding anniversary. This year it's a bit different... mom is requesting to have a dinner together. So, what i need to do is to get out from work as early as i could today. Dear colleagues, no late work for me tonight.

BTW, I have no idea where we should have dinner tonight and what type of food... Chinese? American? Italian? Iranian? Indian? etc... I think it's better to let my parent decide. All i need to do is to be the driver :p

So, how you celebrate your wedding anniversary? Of cause I'm not asking those single out there, I don't think you could answer the question.

Anyway, if you want to answer the question... go and get married then wait for a year. By then you will be eligible to share with us on how you celebrate your wedding anniversary... WINK~

MCA – political tool of british colonial power?

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 10:38 AM PDT

hmm… very interesting and revealing facts about MCA from DAP's ronnie liu. can we believe entirely what ronnie said about MCA here?

———————————

The true colours of MCA

By: RONNIE LIU

SOMEONE hides behind an anonymous name (Lovely Jin) accusing me for misleading the public about the 'great' history of MCA.

The writer shows a serious lack of knowledge and understanding of the role of MCA in the pre-Independence era.

Not only MCA was a political tool of the British colonial power, other Alliance parties like Umno and MIC were also political tools of the British. The British made use of MCA, Umno and MIC to fight the Malay Left and Malayan Communist Party in order to protect its economic interests in the then Malaya.

Your browser may not support display of this image. The million-dollar lottery owned and operated by MCA in the pre-Independence era was granted specially by the British colonial 'master'. All winners of lottery must join MCA as a member.

As a deal, MCA must spend some of the profits from running the lottery on the Chinese living in the new villages (under the Briggs' plan). MCA losts the lottery concession shortly after Merdeka under the pressure of Umno. It was replaced by the state-run Welfare Lottery for some years before the former PM Tun Dr Mahathir given the exclusive right away to businessman Ananda Krishnan. Ananda changed the name of the lottery to 'Big Sweeps'.

The Chinese were confined to various Chinese New Villages under the Briggs' plan to curb the influence of the MCP. MCA was then granted a license to run the Million Dollar lottery by the British authority to make easy money from the Chinese community. As a deal, MCA must use part of the profit to win the hearts of the Chinese in the new villagers. This strategy worked well to serve the interest of the British master during the pre-Independence days.

When the time has come to give Independence to Malaya, the British kept its promise by working only with Umno, MCA and MIC. On the other hand, the real independence fighters including some prominent Malay Left leaders were arrested and locked up in prisons. And the war against the MCP continued with greater intensity.

But true leader like Tan Cheng Lock was sidelined by other MCA and Umno leaders in the run up to the Independence negotiations. Tan Cheng Lock has promised the Chinese community to present the General Demands of the Chinese Community to the British. When his intention was known, he was barred from attending the final round of talks in London.

The MCA was instead represented by traitors like H.S. Lee and Tahir Tan Tong Hai. According to the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (in one of his writings), Tan Tong Hai threw the entire General Demands document into a waste paper basket in the London hotel room instead of bringing it up to the negotiation table!

That's the reason why I often tell the young people that the betrayal of MCA could be traced back to its inception. As a result of this unforgivable sell-out, Malaysian Chinese were treated like second class citizens in our land. The Chinese were now stuck with the 'Non-Bumiputra' label thanks to MCA.

It was people like Leong Yew Koh who instigated Tunku to strip the citizenship and teaching license of the foremost Chinese education pioneer Lim Lian Geok. Check with Cikgu Loot Ting Yee. He is one of the mother tongue education pioneers who could testify my story.

The entire history of MCA is filled with betrayals, crimes and sins. They have failed to preserve and protect the interest and rights of the Chinese community which they have claimed to represent. Take a closer look at these scandals; deposit-taking-cooperative scandals, Chang Min Thien Fund scandal, Aik Hua Holdings scandal, MCA JE Fund scandal… it's a never-ending list.

And guess what; most of the victims of these scandals were MCA members and supporters. Mind you, it was MCA that instigated the closure of the original Bai Xiao (SJKC Damansara ) in Petaling Jaya. It was also the efforts of SOS Damansara Action Committee and the pressure mounted by DAP, Dong Jiao Zong and the entire Chinese community that brought about the unprecedented speedy construction of the new SJKC Damansara in Tropicana.

It's a great shame that MCA leaders do not even bother to get accreditation for the certificates, diplomas and degree courses offered by TAR College. Recently, a young Malaysian Chinese boy's application was rejected by the PDRM simply because the academic qualifications he obtained from the MCA sponsored TARC were not recognized by both Public Service Department and National Accreditation Board.

Under the current MCA leadership, the Chinese community can only request for a new Chinese primary school when one was 'dead'. And all these years, the allocation of fund to the Chinese primary schools remains unfair and unjust; only about 2.4% of the total budget was given to the Chinese stream and about 1% given to the Tamil stream. The rest was all given to the Malay (National) primary schools. None of the MCA 'taikohs' (mainly Chinese educated) dare to make noise on this subject.

Yes, Lee Kuan Yew was not totally wrong. The Umno-led BN government has been systematically marginalized the Chinese and other Non-Malay communities. And what did MCA leaders like Ong Ka Ting and Chan Kong Choy do about it? And why were they keeping so timidly quite when Umno ultras like Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin making all sorts of racist remarks and even waved the Malay keris time and again shamelessly?

MCA is indefensible. That's why none of the MCA leaders dare to show up for the debate in Machap. And for the same reason, none of them have the courage to rebut me on all those historical facts I raised in my book entitled, 'Coward? Culprit? Accomplice? The role of MCA in the Chinese Community.'

"Ganyang Malaysia" Bergema Semula Di Jakarta

"Kami bukan ingin mencuri, kami bukan ingin mengambil barang di mall tapi kami hanya ingin mengusir warga Malaysia," kata Mustar Bona Ventura, coordinator Bendera.

– Bernama

Demonstran Datangi Rumah Dubes (Kedutaan) Malaysia

-kompas

Paris sent home from Japan

Paris Hilton denied Japan entryAmerican party girl Paris Hilton was sent home after a short stay in Japan. She was denied entrance by the Japanese immigration due to her poor drug offence records in the United States.

Japan has strict immigration laws against those convicted of drug offences, and Ms Hilton has just pleaded guilty of drug possession in Las Vegas a couple of days ago, making it an easy decision for the Japanese authority to send her home.

Paris Hilton was supposed to have an Asia tour to promote her fashion and fragrance lines, including an event at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur which is just 15 minutes of drive from my home lol. It's all cancelled now.

- Bernama

Remaja kembar hilang ditemui

Ulasan GB

Now I see who Idris Jala is! He is nothing more than a PR prattler!

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 07:56 AM PDT

Please go to Lim Kit Siang's blog and read an article by Kee Thuan Chye - 'If it's a problem, don't recognise it'. Very well written and worth noting, it appeared in Malaysiakini on Sep 22, 2010.

Read it. We need to be alert and not be conned by "sales talk". Basically, the article zoomed in on Idris' speech at UCSI about Malaysians moving from merely tolerating each other to celebrating the differences or celebrating diversity.

He also talked about two two types of issues and in his own words, "in life, there are only two types of issues". They are problem and polarity - the former is something that can be solved while the latter is something that cannot be solved but must be managed. He likened polarity to a relationship between husband and wife and illustrated by giving the example of his wife and him. She is fastidious in wanting him to place his socks in a proper basket for washing, but he is used to leaving them all over the house. Despite her repeated attempts to get him to conform, he is incorrigible. She on her part takes an inordinate amount of time to get ready when they have a function to attend. It annoys him that because she can't decide on what to wear, they often turn up late.

Ahh...so, there you have it! The polarity in Malaysia is the Malays and non-Malays or the Muslims and non-Muslims. So, the Malays have to accept the non-Malays' way of life just as much as the non-Malays have to accept the Malays'. Don't change the status quo. Don't force one's view upon another. The Catholics have been using the word 'Allah' in the Herald publication for years. If talk about polarity and managing, then the Catholics should not be stopped from using the word 'Allah' - just like you don't stop your wife from taking an inordinate amount of time to prepare herself and she doesn't stop you from leaving your socks all over the house!

Clinic Duty and Raya Visit Round 2

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 06:51 AM PDT

I was on clinic duty again today, and this time I went a wee bit early with the hope of getting a proper parking space without having to go around the hospital a few rounds.

Well yes, I did get a proper parking space at a parking lot nearer to the Pusat Rawatan Harian, but much further to the specialist clinic where I was heading. But then, walking is a good form of exercise, no?

Immediately upon arrival I headed straight to the doctor's room to check with the nurse if there were any new cases to be referred today. There were supposed to be three, but none of them were there yet. So I just waited at the usual room, took out my netbook computer and did some work. Meanwhile I also observed the PLHIVs being counseled about their ARV by the pharmacists with whom we were sharing the room.

At one time a lady came in with her 7 year old son. While the mother sat at the table where the pharmacists were, the son was more interested to sit at the chair beside mine, since I was at that time using my netbook computer.

Boy: "I want to play your computer can or not?"

Me: "Cannot, I want to do some work."

Boy: "Got game or not? I want to play."

Me: "No, no game. I use this computer to work, not to play."

Boy: "I press ah?" (then put his fingers on the enter key)

Me: "Don't. I want to work, ok?"

Boy: "If I press, then?"

Me: (make donno)

Boy: "If I press, THEN WHAAAT?" (then he started pressing a few keys on the keyboard)

I gave him my usually deadly stare, but it didn't seem to work with him. Luckily the pharmacists were done counseling his mother, it was time for them to leave the room. But before they left, the boy pointed to my tudung and said, "Why you wear like that one? Take out la!"

Aiyo, this boy… luckily his mother is not one of our clients, otherwise whoever becomes the buddy would probably have their patience tested whenever he/she visits them at their home!

Anyway, although there were supposed to be 3 new cases, only 2 came. One, a young Malay guy, an ex-IVDU. Although it was his first appointment at Ipoh GH, his case wasn't really a new case. He had earlier done his follow-ups in KL and only recently moved to Perak and had his appointments transferred to Ipoh. So, there was not much I needed to explain to him as he had already gone through all the explanations before.

The other case was of a single Chinese lady in her thirties. She went to do her full blood tests recently, and it was then she found out that she had been infected. She suspects she must have got infected by her previous boyfriend as she couldn't think of any other way she could have been infected.

--------------------------------------

Yesterday I went for round 2 of my raya visits. The 3rd family on my list… Lin's. I had already bought 3 hampers on Monday, one delivered to Fuzi, one to Sofie, and the 3rd one was meant for Lin. This time I decided to go in the morning. As I reached her house at about 10 am, her 2nd daughter (the one studying medic overseas) was outside hanging her laundry.

"Baru mandi ke?", I asked.

"Hehe… belum lagi pun!" she replied, and then went inside for her bath.

Only 2 of Lin's 6 children were home. No. 1 and no.3 were back in Klang Valley where they're currently studying. No. 5 and 6 were in school. No. 2, the daughter whom I met oustide, is due to go back overseas soon. No. 4, Lin's 18 year old son, was all ready to go to work, but he was waiting for his boss to come fetch him. (Waaah, class gitu, nak pergi kerja boss yang datang ambik!)

While Lin's first 3 daughters did quite well in their studies, her son didn't seem to do well. When he was in form 5, he was more interested to lepak with his friends. Lin had quite a tough time trying to discipline this son. But I was happy to note that the boy had improved quite a lot in his attitude. Despite not doing too well in his SPM, he managed to get a job and seemed keen. Maybe he has finally found something that interests him. And unlike during my previous visits when he'd just stay away, this time he was more talkative. Hmmm… big improvement I must say. His other siblings had always welcomed me to their home, and now with the changes I see in this boy, I felt even more comfortable visiting them.

Lin had been working hard during fasting month, sewing clothes especially for neighbors. In fact, some were begging her to do some last minute alterations, or to accept last minute orders.

With her no. 1 and 3 expected to finish their studies by next year, I believe Lin's financial worries should be over in the near future. Her first 3 daughters had always been supportive of her all along and after knowing them for more than a year, I believe they will help their mother and younger siblings financially once they can get themselves a job. I look forward to the day when Lin's wellbeing is taken care by her children instead of her having to worry about their wellbeing.

----------------------------------------

Tomorrow I plan to visit another family, and on Friday 2 more families…

UK worst place to live in Europe

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 06:49 AM PDT

Source_The Sun:UK worst place to live in Europe (Thanks Dr NAKyaw for the link)

THE UK and Ireland are the worst places to live in Europe – while France is the best, says a new study.

Brits have fewer holidays and pay more for goods than almost all other similar countries.

Our food and diesel prices are the highest and booze and fags cost above average.

UK spending on health and education has plummeted and now ranks alongside Poland, the Quality of Life Index showed.

Our net household income was previously the highest – but this year we rank fourth with £37,172.

Brits get the third fewest hours of sunshine a year – better than only Ireland and Holland. Life expectancy is BELOW the European average of 79.3.

uSwitch.com, which organised the index, compared 16 factors in ten countries.

Spokeswoman Ann Robinson said: "Last year Brits were miserable but rich.

"This year we're miserable and poor. Whereas some countries work to live, in the UK consumers live to work."

France topped the index for the second year in a row. Spain came second followed by Denmark.

Berapa Ramai Sebenarnya Yang Dah Dibunuh Peguam Berpuaka Ini?

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 05:57 AM PDT

Polis sahkan ahli perniagaan India dibunuh

Samson Nahar berkata.

- Bernama

Open letter to the Minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Department YB Datuk Sri Idris Jala

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 05:51 AM PDT

To

YB Datuk Sri Idris Jala

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department

The CEO of the Pemandu

The Performance Management and Delivery Unit

Dear YB,

Congratulations and thank you for the impressive ETP (the Economic Transformation Programme), your honour had launched for the GTP or the government transformation programme.

I am impressed and wish to refer to your statement, "It is Pemandu's role as a troubleshooter – or 'catalyst' in Idris' words – that will eventually transform the way the civil service and private sector do things. Every Friday we hold a problem-solving meeting. When someone comes to us with a problem in getting approval from a government department, we will write and ask why was it not approved (and work on those reasons). Nothing can be solved unless there is some form of feedback but for some, their solutions are the only solutions. As we implement the projects, we will force (through) the changes that need to take place in bureaucracy."  Reference_ Malaysiakini news: Pemandu cracks whip over civil service

I hereby wish to request to the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department YB Idris Jala to solve the Red Tapes created by Malaysian Medical Council and MOH on Foreign Doctors which are obstructing the Malaysian's aim to prevent Brain drain and achieving Brain Gain.

  1. If Malaysia needs the service of Foreign and Malaysian Professionals e.g. Medical Doctors, it needs to really offer all the means available that are legally offered in the newspapers and at the International Conferences such as World Trade Talks, if it wishes to effectively attract them.

2.  Even the newspapers reported on the front page that our PM YAB Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak, when he was a DPM, had said that he would grant the citizenship to even an Illegal immigrant if that stateless child could become a doctor.

                    i.      And the newspapers reported Professional spouses of Malaysian Professionals would be allowed to work in Malaysia.

ii.      And Malaysian representatives including International Trade Ministers had repeatedly promised at International Conferences that Malaysia would allow the foreign professionals to work and to change jobs in Malaysia.

3.  Permanent Residence holders in Malaysia should be free to work legally anywhere without any restrictions as long as that is a legal work or business according to law.

4.  Permanent Residence holders are free from restrictions which are meant compulsory for the citizens only e.g. National Service or to do service for the government for certain number of years.

5.  Especially if Permanent Residence holders never took the Malaysian Government loans, scholarships or studied in the Government Universities which are subsidized but attended the Private Universities and fully funded by the parents should not be unfairly forced to serve with the Ministry of Health only.

6.  As a Permanent Residence holder with the recognized Medical degree and have done the compulsory two years Houseman-ship, who entitles the Full Medical Registration should be given the chance to work under the Ministry of Education Universities or under the Defence Ministry Hospitals or any other local or central government clinics even if MMC do not wish to allow to work at Private Sector.

7. If any professional couples especially with the infant less than one year of age is posted in different areas, there is a possibility of one of them would ultimately resign.

8.  Foreign doctors who wish to do Masters Programmes are not allowed to withdraw salaries given by the relevant government hospitals although they need to take all the duties and on-calls like their Malaysian doctors for at least four years during their training. So Malaysia lost the bright doctors who wish to study and work hard. If they are allowed to withdraw salaries, more foreign doctors would come in here and some of them may even decide to stay and serve Malaysia.

9.  Foreign doctors who just grab any legal works to be able to survive and to get a valid visa to stay in Malaysia are not allowed to transfer the job if they later got the better offer from the government Universities or the government hospitals. MMC refused to grant the registration and advises to wait for few years. At that time the vacancy was filled and the old job offer of appointment was already nullified.

10. Please read Tun Dr Mahathir's posting about Malaysian doctors about the Malaysian Medical Council and Ministry of Health selfish attitude here in 2009.08.21: THE DOCTORS

a. What their qualification confers upon them is not just a degree but as doctors they have been elevated to a special status and endowed with special powers. They would have in them the capacity to inspire confidence and trust in their patient. The confidence and trust are such that people would literally entrust their lives to them, allowing them to cut open their bodies and do things which could kill if done by others.

b.  The skill and the power they acquire owe much to the society in which they were brought up and their access to education up to the highest level. Not all human society can do this. A poor society, an unstable society, an uncaring society would not be able to give them even primary education, much less training to become a doctor. The cost borne by the society is high.Whether they get a scholarship or their parents pay for their education, they all owe a debt to society. It behoves them to repay to society through the service in which they are trained.

c. They should therefore be ready to offer their services to the society in which they lived. It may be by serving the Government or if this is not attractive enough, at least their country. They can earn a good income in Malaysia's private sector.

d.  But some easily forget their debt and are easily enticed by higher pay in other countries. These countries paid nothing for their education and training and yet for a little bit more money they get the services of the people we paid a lot to train whether in Government school and universities or in private ones. Quite often the countries which get the service of our doctors are developed and rich.

e. The nation loses a lot when the people we train opts to work in other countries.

f. But the association of doctors make matters worse by refusing entry to foreign doctors to practice. It wants to keep the opportunities for making money in this country to its members only. It does not mind Malaysian doctors going out but foreign doctors may not come in. Only if they work with the Government can they come in.

g.  The flow is one-way. Our doctors can leave the country but foreign doctors cannot replace them. We are losing the brains that we develop without the foreign brain coming in.

h. Despite all the Government's efforts we are losing especially the much-needed specialists.

i. There is something wrong here. If the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) wishes to close the country to outsiders then it should also object to Malaysian doctors from leaving the country. As it is the MMA seem to be wanting to have their cake and to eating it as well.

j. I am not suggesting that as we have embraced globalisation and the free flow of capital etc that we should now allow foreign doctors to come and open their hospitals here. But I do think that if local hospitals need to employ foreign doctors then they should be allowed to.

Thanking Your Honour

Yours Humbly

Dr Abdul Rahman zafrudin

Political Etiquette - Where Art Thou?

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 05:38 AM PDT

There seems to b a very unhealthy trend these days where politicians use the MSM as their platform to make statements about intra-party issues when these should be settled with just a telephone call or a simple face-to-face meeting. Political etiquette - where art thou?

To be a great politician, one should ideally have a healthy self-esteem and display a respectful demeanor to be a positive role model to party members. Confident intellect should be projected in the type of statements that one makes. The emblem of commendable political etiquette should be behavior and mannerism that stems from a heart humbled by one's own successes. A good leader must be undaunted by obstacles in the path and persevere in striving to meet objectives and promises without hitting out or demeaning another person in the process.

I long to see leaders who can, while leading and challenging members, also solicits healthy debate and discussion with open-mindedness to ideas and opinions which may differ from their own.

Is there then a need to hit out publicly at another person from the same party ? I can understand if statements are exchanged by members from opposing sides but what if the members are from the same party?

This evening, Joseph Sipalan wrote an article in Malaysiakini HERE on Don't insult the deputy president, Azmin tells Zaid. The report said:

PKR vice-president Azmin Ali today demanded that Zaid Ibrahim retract his statement published in an online news portal, where he called outgoing deputy president Syed Husin Ali nyanyuk or senile.

Azmin who is expected to face-off with Zaid in a two-man race for the deputy presidency, slammed the latter for his outburst, saying it is "shameful" to the party members and leadership.

Zaid was today quoted in the Malay section of Free Malaysia Today as calling Syed Husin senile for accusing the former of not being fully involved as Pakatan Rakyat coordinator when drafting the opposition coalition's formal policy.

"We cannot have new members offending senior leaders who have been tested in our struggle, unlike Zaid who does not understand the meaning of our struggle," Azmin told Malaysiakini.

"My advice to him is to look back at the Permatang Pauh declaration and understand its meaning. Don't be arrogant, don't act as if you know everything... stop the ego," he said, referring to party advisor Anwar Ibrahim's vision for Malaysia which he announced on Sept 12, 1998.

Both parties are wrong (not that I am judging) and should refrain from speaking to the press when it comes to minor conflicts such as this one. The greater good of the party should always super cede personality clashes.

Mutual respect, tolerance and social/political etiquette must be observed. It does not do much for party solidarity if members speak up publicly against another member. Party solidarity must be maintained and if there is a conflict or disagreement, reason together and come to an agreement without playing up on issues.

Let the democratic process take its course in the PKR elections without leaders influencing other members by their statements or responses.

Ideally, when standing for elections, candidates should tell voters what are their USP - unique selling proposition and why voters should vote them! So let's hear what Zaid, Azmin and whoever is standing for elections have to say about themselves, their qualities/experience/hopes and dreams and let the elections be one that leaves a fragrance in the air that few can forget!

Perhaps then, more rakyat will be convinced that indeed, this is a party capable of making the journey to Putrajaya.

Anak RPK Bebas Tanpa Dipanggil Bela Diri

Posted: 22 Sep 2010 12:46 AM PDT

UMNO Terkedu, Hipokrit Terdedah, Kamalanathan Masuk Masjid Pijak Tempat Sujud

Khalid Samad dakwa Umno hipokrit, benarkan MP MIC masuk masjid

Gambar: Ahli Parlimen Hulu Selangor P. Kamalanathan bersama ADUN Umno menyerahkan sumbangan cek di dalam Masjid Sungai Tengi Selatan, yang menurut Khalid Samad timbul persoalan pendirian Umno-BN dalam isu bukan Islam masuk kawasan masjid. — Gambar ihsan blog Khalid Samad

Kamalanathan memenangi pilihan raya kecil Hulu Selangor April lalu.

Namun Mursyidul Am PAS Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat mempertahankan tindakan Teo.
