PLKN Experience: Buddhist Class

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 10:00 AM PDT

Don't bother about random post but I just found out that I have many things about my NS that happened in March to May this year that I haven't post up. So I know that many junior have been chosen for the national service a.k.a. PLKN and here you found a good place to know the truth and life about it in there.

Every NS trainee have to go for spiritual class to learn more about your religion. I am a Buddhist, so I attended the Buddhist class every Thursday and Friday night. There's teacher came from Buddhist society to our camp at night and give us speech and teachings.

DSC04302
Friday class.

On Thursday night, we learn about Buddhism, on Friday night, we learn about Di Zi Gui and how to live happily. It's quite fun and you know it's actually the funnest night of all week where it's not very hot, but wearing the uniform or call pakaian 2 still hot a bit and it's all Chinese there where we can communicate in Chinese, easily and happily. =D

Thursday class.

They actually have English class but majority is Mandarin speaking so there's only like 8 went to the Chinese class. This is the time we makes fun together and talk. And we have too many Chinese around 200 in the camp so our class is again divided into small group instead following our own squadron.

Khang, Chuen, me, Weng and Comel. =D

Another thing is on Saturday, we go to Chinese temple to pray which I will talk about it another time. =D Christian will go to church whereas the Hindu will go to Hindu temple. So NS is not all about physical training and stuff. It also try to train your mental.

Miss the days back in the camp. Hmm. :X

Kelantan julang Piala Malaysia, tebus kekalahan 2009

Ketiadaan tonggak utama Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Razak yang terpaksa dikeluarkan selepas mengalami kecederaan menyebabkan Negeri Sembilan semakin tertekan apabila ketinggalan 1-2.

Bagi mengukuhkan kubu pertahanan, jurulatih Kelantan B. Sathianathan mengambil tindakan bijak memasukan Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli dan Khairan Eroza Razali.

Strategi itu berjaya apabila tamat masa permainan menyaksikan Kelantan muncul juara Piala Malaysia musim ini selepas berjaya mempertahankan kedudukan 2-1 menewaskan Negeri Sembilan. -TMI

BERITA KELMARIN

Hadiah untuk Sultan Kelantan
Oleh KHAIRI MOHAMAD
khairi.mohamad@kosmo.com.my

katanya ketika dihubungi semalam.

-kosmo

Mount Everest now 'wired' for Internet, ready for Starbucks

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 07:36 AM PDT

Everest summit wired up with Internet
by Subel Bhandari Fri Oct 29, 3:54 am ET
KATHMANDU (AFP) – Climbers at the top of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, will now be able to make video calls and surf the Internet on their mobile phones, a Nepalese telecom group claims.
Ncell, a subsidiary of Swedish phone giant TeliaSonera, says it has set up a high-speed third-generation (3G) phone base station at an altitude of 5,200 metres (17,000 feet) near Gorakshep village in the Everest region.
"Today we made the (world's) highest video call from Mount Everest base camp successfully," Ncell Nepal chief Pasi Koistinen told reporters in Kathmandu on Thursday.
"The coverage of the network will reach up to the peak of the Everest," he added.
Climbers who reached Everest's 8,848-metre peak previously depended on expensive and erratic satellite phone coverage and a voice-only network set up by China Mobile in 2007 on the Chinese side of the mountain.
The installation will also help tens of thousands of tourists and trekkers who visit the Everest region every year.
"This is a great milestone for mobile communications as the 3G high speed internet will bring faster, more affordable telecommunication services from the world?s tallest mountain," said Lars Nyberg, chief executive of TeliaSonera, which owns 80 percent of Ncell.
The 3G services will be fast enough to make video calls and use the Internet, said the company, which also claims the world's lowest 3G base at 1,400 metres (4,595 feet) below sea level in a mine in Europe.
A total of eight base stations, four of which will run on solar power, have been installed in the Everest region with the lowest at 2,870 metres (9,400 feet) at Lukla, where the airport for the area is situated.
Company engineers braved low temperatures and winds to set up the infrastructure.
Mountaineers hailed the launch as ambitious and helpful.
"The erratic and expensive satellite connection that many times does not work for days will be replaced with this service, making it possible for all climbers to keep in touch with their organisers and family," said Ang Tshering Sherpa, a member of the International Mountain Protection Commission.
"This will also be helpful, possibly, when there is an accident or an expedition mishap," he added
Despite the installation in Everest, telecom services cover less than one-third of the 28 million people of Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world.
TeliaSonera said it planned to invest 100 million dollars in the next year to ensure that mobile coverage increases to more than 90 percent of the Himalayan nation's population.
The 3G network on Everest puts TeliaSonera ahead of state-controlled Nepal Telecom, Indian-owned United Telecom and China Mobile.
Around 3,000 people have climbed to the Everest summit since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to conquer the peak in 1953.

Memorandum Bantahan Kepada KPN Mengenai Penangkapan Dan Pemukulan K.Selvach

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 07:30 AM PDT

Tuntutan Kami

Ketua Polis Negara mesti:

a) melepaskan Selvach serta-merta dan membuat permohonan maaf secara terbuka kepada dirinya dan keluarganya;

b) mengambil tindakan tegas, termasuklah pendakwaan jenayah dan tindakan disiplin terhadap anggota polis yang menyerang dan menangkap Selvach;

c) menyokong penubuhan Suruhanhaya Bebas Aduan dan Salah Laku Polis (IPCMC), yang akan berfungsi secara bebas, sebagai lembaga luar yang akan menyiasat aduan terhadap anggota polis dan akan membuatkan pihak polis bertanggungjawab terhadap perilaku mereka;

d) menghentikan amalan menangkap dan tangkapan semula dibawah undang-undang tahanan pencegahan;

e) berjanji untuk menghormati hak rakyat untuk mendapat akses yang luas dan bebas terhadap khidmat peguam pada bila-bila masa;

f) mewajibkan pihak polis berpakaian biasa untuk memperkenalkan diri mereka dan memaparkan kad kuasa mereka apabila melaksanakan penguatkuasaan;

What the Fart?

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 05:23 AM PDT

The fart it is a pleasant thing,
It gives the belly ease,
It warms the bed in winter,
And suffocates the fleas.
A fart can be quiet,
A fart can be loud,
Some leave a powerful,
Poisonous cloud

A fart can be short,
Or a fart can be long,
Some farts have been known
To sound like a song....

A fart can create
A most curious medley,
A fart can be harmless,
Or silent , and deadly.

A fart might not smell,
While others are vile,
A fart may pass quickly,
Or linger a while......

A fart can occur
In a number of places,
And leave everyone there,
With strange looks on their faces.

From wide-open prairie,
To small elevators,
A fart will find all of
Us sooner or later.

That farts are all bad,
Is simply not true-
We must never forget....
Sweet old farts like you!

Kinda brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

Have a lovely evening, dear readers!

The Price of Freedom

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 05:01 AM PDT

Have you ever been tempted to cut a corner or to take the easiest route, though you know it may not necessarily be the best one? Or have you ever made a decision
because it was quick and simple, knowing that it might come back to bite you later?

I appreciate a parable Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard told about the dangers of taking the easy route. It is a story about a wild duck. Though life was difficult at times, the beautiful creature loved the boundless heavens and the endless stretches of wilderness. Soaring about treetops and towns, the duck symbolized to its tame counterparts, who could not fly, the epitome of freedom.

One evening during fall migration, he chanced to light in a barnyard where a farmer was feeding his ducks. The beautiful creature ate the corn the farmer sprinkled about and liked it so much that he stayed the night in a bed of warm straw. He ate the duck's corn again the next day. And the next. And the next....

When spring came, he heard his old companions flying overhead and an almost forgotten yearning awoke deep within him. The duck had all but squelched his instinct for freedom over the comfortable and easy winter. But now he yearned to join his comrades in the sky. He flapped his stretched wings as he strained toward the flock, but he had grown fat and indolent and unable to fly. The wild duck had become a tame duck.

The easy way through our problems, though appealing, may not be the best way. (Remember...the only place you will find success before work is in the dictionary!). It's always easier to borrow than to save; easier to jump in now than to do the hard work of planning; easier to postpone confronting a situation than to remedy it; easier to cut corners than to do it right; easier to remain the same than to make changes.

If you want to fly, you may have to pay a price. But freedom is worth it -- at any cost!

Are you ready to soar?

What I like and what I don't like about Atkins

Posted: 28 Oct 2010 09:54 PM PDT

*I got the book for RM10 at Amcorp Mall flea market*

What I like:

1 - It teaches you about eating right. Cut the sugar. Eat good fat. Eat good carb. And lots of vegetables. Fresh preffered.

2 - You lose fat. Fast. My spare tyre is dissapearing in 2-3 weeks.

3 - It teaches you about controlling blood sugar. Good for diabetic prone Malaysians.

4 - It works.

5 - You lose your sugar/carb craving after sometime. But it would really test you.

6 - Many have sworn by its effectiveness. The testimonials are really motivating.

7 - You can eat all except sugary food and simple carb.

What I don't like:

1 - The promoted use of artificial sweeteners. And no, you can't convinced me with Splenda. Please google. And Stevia tastes like shite.

2 - Your food bill could go to the roof. I have three children.

3 - Recipes in the books are Westerns. Most of the ingredients are unavailable or expensive for local consumption.

4 - Induction phase was a real challenge. I mean real challenge.

5 - I didn't like the limited amount of fruits in the diet.

6 - Digestive trouble especially during induction. Constipation. Need multivitamin for that.

7 - Menu planning and home cooking are not easy for busy working mother.

What I did (and some modifications):

1 - I take no artificial sugar and never believe in them. I take sugar but twice a day the most. Mine was in the form of morning coffee and fruits.

2 - Eggs. Especially for breakfast.

3 - Rice, bread, potato, keledek, keladi - very minimum amount.

4 - Water. Plain water. Lots of it.

5 - When buying food at local canteen I usually skip rice and go for eggs, chicken and/or fish. There are plenty of cooked sayur. And no I'm not too cautious on the added sugar. If it's sweet then I'll skipped the soup. If it happened to be ayam masak merah when I thought it was ayam masak chilli then I'd just 'bedal'.

6 - Snacks: Water, cheese, nuts, seaweed. All three food mind you are quite pricey. OK not nut if you go for groundnut. Almond, cashew etc etc you know the price.

7 - Get the book on Atkins. Phase one or two is fine. As long as you grab the concept. There's plenty of information on the web too. Half of the books are usually menu plans. They are useless and impractical methinks. You have to modify or make your own. Tak percaya pergi check sendiri.

Mine you my induction was not so much of induction. I cheated a lot. But I am not going to go for induction again. I don't think that it is healthy to stretch your body to that particular extent. But then I think for my body weight, I 'd rather be burning slow and steady so phase 2 should be the best.

After some modifications, I am so far OK with this eating style. Boring betul! However afterwards bila timbang tadaaaa... I lost 5 kg so far. (Mind you, itu baru perut, yo. Banyak lagi nak kena bakar ni.) Sekarang sudah biasa sikit, so I am sort of used to what to eat and what not to eat.

Atkins, coupled with exercise, you'll lose weight faster. But I am yet to verify that. Baru semalam mula bersenam dengan betul-betul. Kah kah kah...

Just remember, simple carb is the enemy.

Driver Of Ill-fated Bus Had No Driving Licence: Is JPJ sleeping on the job?!

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 04:19 AM PDT

October 30, 2010 16:58 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The driver who was driving the ill-fated bus which skidded and overturned at KM38 Genting Sempah last night, killing seven and injuring 39 others, did not have a driving licence.

Selangor Public Order and Traffic Chief Supt Che Husin Omar said the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had confirmed that the driver did not have a valid driving licence.

"The driver had initially admitted to police that he had a driving licence but when JPJ conducted a search, it was found that he did not have one," he told Bernama when contacted here Saturday.

Che Husin said the driver who suffered a broken right leg and currently receiving treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital was detained for further investigations.

"He will be investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987, for reckless driving and causing death," he said.

Che Husin said police inspect the black box and also investigate whether the driver had any past record for traffic offences or driving without a licence.

The ill-fated bus with 44 youths aged between 14 and 25 from several villages in Baling, Kedah, was on an educational trip and had left Kedah at 11pm Thursday and arrived in Genting Highlands at 8am Friday.

At 7pm Friday, the entourage left Genting Highlands for Kampung Melayu Subang to participate in a homestay programme but was involved in the accident.

During the accident, seven people were killed, 17 seriously injured while 22 others escaped with minor injuries, including the two bus drivers.

Meanwhile, Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh said the department and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) would carry out an investigation.

"The investigations results will be completed in two to three weeks and the report submitted to the cabinet before end November," he told reporters after launching a road safety campaign and exhibition called "Malaysia Unite For Road Safety" at the USJ Elite overhead restaurant here.

Investigation, investigation, investigation!
How many more lives must die before all these illegal and irresponsible bus drivers are rooted out?!

Harvested today from FB: IMM, biggest book and Aung Gyi

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 03:48 AM PDT

Today I got the pic of the Head of Medicine Prof Dr Aung Gyi's by cropping from Bo Bo's link. He was two years junior to me. He is very bright but simple, quite, soft and gentle not like us, Dr Than Win and me. Both of us used to be active, a little bit noisy, talkative and used to fight back any one if see any unjustices or if any one try to belittle us unfairly. We all got the best student awards (Lu Yae Chun) from different classes.

I heard that while studying for the MRCP examination in UK, he was the brightest student and all his compatriots could even used him as the Medical Encyclopaedia. You have raised the Prestige of Myanmar doctors infront of UK Medical authorities. Congratulations Dr Aung Gyi, you made me proud to be even able to write about you as my old friend. I hereby posted our Medical University's pic and world largest book pic together with your pic in your honour!

TQ Dr Zwe Lwin for the pictures.

Here, I got Dr Than Win's pic._

Ansari, Bakal Ketua Menteri Sabah Satu Hari Nanti

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 05:19 AM PDT

Patah Sayap Terbang Jua, Terkehel Tangan Berjuang Juga

Pemerhatian GB: Ansari bakal Ketua Menteri Sabah satu hari nanti.

Myanmar needs the Unity in diversity

Classroom in Myanmar

Image via Wikipedia

Taken and edited to adapt to Myanmar from_The Star:Unity in diversity AT YOUR SERVICE By TAN SRI ALIMUDDIN MOHD DOM

The spirit of unity should be instilled at a very young age to realise the United, peaceful progressive and prosperous Union of Myanmar objectives.

The children are_

  1. colour blind
  2. and not by nature prejudiced of other races.
  3. They are not born with injurious assumptions about people in any definable group.
  4. Children's intentions and thoughts are mostly, if not all the time, sincere.
  5. My point of contention is that we should instill the spirit of unity and togetherness at a very young age.

Since independence, national unity has always been the main agenda of the successive Myanmar Governments.

The unity concept aims to_

  1. strengthen the relationship among races,
  2. based on mutual trust
  3. and respect for each other.

This can begin in schools.

Unity in the whole Union of Myanmar concept is_

  1. not about creating a singular hegemonic society
  2. by assimilating all others into the majourity Burman Buddhists,
  3. who would lord over minority ethnic races and religious groups.

Instead, it is about_

  1. accepting the uniqueness of other races,
  2. appreciating the plurality of Myanmar
  3. and working together as one nation
  4. towards a better, harmonious future.
  5. Hence, the key to this concept is "unity in diversity",
  6. which ensures a healthy inter-personal relationship.

Racial and cultural diversity is_

  1. an excellent topic to teach our young children,
  2. who form many opinions about themselves and the people around them.
  3. This is when their natural curiosity about differences in appearance
  4. and cultural backgrounds really begins to come into play.
  5. As they develop, children are able to put cultural and racial differences into perspective.
  6. They can learn to appreciate or devalue others who are different from them.

Hence, this is a significant point of time to shape their attitudes about race and cultural diversity, to make them realise that diversity provides an assortment of benefits that can enhance any classroom.

Teachers are_

  1. one of the main pillars in delivering the aspirations of the Myanmar Unity concept.
  2. They bear the weight and responsibility of teaching and,
  3. apart from parents, are the main source of knowledge and values for children.

Good teachers are_

  1. the ones with enthusiasm for their work,
  2. and who are highly motivated, committed and resilient.
  3. They are the advocates and agents of reform.
  4. Teachers, therefore, need to be reflective, active and collaborative,
  5. able to take their students beyond;
    • text,
    • class
    • and school
    • to the community, nation and the world.

To ensure our young children embrace the Unity concept, teaching should not just be about merit in achievement. Teachers need to be innovative to develop a balanced educational experience.

They have to realise that teaching is like a living organism, constantly changing. The world is rapidly changing, and as conscientious teachers, they should be aware of this development.

Transforming the curriculum will effectively harness the potential of our students. Besides, the curriculum calls for progression of students based on achievement and proficiency, rather than academic and cognitive accomplishments.

The changes will cater for children with various abilities.

We must ensure access and equity to quality education is made available for all, which embodies the concept People First, Performance Now.

The unity concept, in light of education, is to ensure the evolving future needs of our children are effectively articulated.

Henceforth, teachers and school leaders need to work with the current environment that demands school organisations to be collaborative and inter-dependent, so that they can orchestrate a comparative yet competitive environment.

This, I believe, will help improve shared transformational leadership principles and inter-personal skills, to allow members of the school organisation, teachers and students alike, to be appreciative of the values and cultures of our country in the spirit of UNITY.

Ahmad Maslan Hina Sultan Kelantan

Pengelola istana Kelantan Datuk Abdul Halim Hamad semalam bagaimanapun menafikan desas-desus bahawa Sultan Kelantan akan menyertai kempen pilihan raya kecil DUN Galas.

Ulasan GB

Halt PKR election 2010 immediately

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 01:02 AM PDT

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

29 October 2010

We are gravely concerned about the manner in which the Parti Keadilan Rakyat election is being conducted by the Central Election Committee (JPP) and the party secretariat.

Today is the first day of polling where thousands of party members are eligible to vote at the polling centres in several Kedah and Kelantan divisions, which should have begun at 10:00 am. However, we have received numerous reports that members were unable to vote at several divisions this morning and many have left in frustration.

From the information we have received, the following problems were faced by local members at the respective divisions:

1. Kota Bharu, Kelantan: Although the ballot papers for the other positions were available, the polling did not proceed because the ballot papers for the position of Vice Chief of the Women's Wing were not available.

2. Tumpat, Kelantan: The ballot papers have not arrived as at 12:00 noon and the ballot boxes were also not ready. Thus, many members left for Friday prayers.

3. Langkawi, Kedah: The ballot papers arrived very late and registration of new members is taking place whilst the polls are ongoing, and it seems that some of these new members are being allowed to vote.

4. Alor Setar, Kedah: The ballot papers have not arrived as at 12:00 noon and many members left for Friday prayers without voting.

Three out of the four divisions mentioned above nominated Datuk Zaid Ibrahim for the position of Deputy President, and a sizeable number of members were mobilised to vote for him at the fourth division in Langkawi.

In light of these alarming logistical problems on the very first day of polling, we expect more serious problems ahead; especially considering that there are only 10 divisions polling today and there will be 79 more divisions polling during this weekend.

Although the JPP and party secretariat assured us that the election will be conducted professionally to ensure a free and fair election, the above problems have cast serious doubts on the entire election process.

After discussing these problems with Dr Molly Cheah (the Chairperson of the JPP) this morning, we are now even more disturbed as she claims that she is no longer involved in the management of the election process. Indeed, she said that she has no knowledge of the briefing of the candidates and/or their election agents that was conducted at the eleventh hour last night by the party secretariat. She also said that she regrets the problems faced by voters at the divisions mentioned above but she is unable to do anything about it.

In light of these serious concerns, the party election should be halted immediately and resumed only after all these logistical problems have been remedied. If the JPP and/or the secretariat proceeds without resolving these basic but fundamental issues, the party will lose the trust of its members and also damage its reputation as a party that fights for democracy and justice for all Malaysians.

Moreover, if the Chairperson of the JPP claims that she is no longer in control of the election process, then she should no longer hold on to the position and resign immediately. Similarly, if the party secretariat, which is under the responsibility of the Secretary General, is unable to perform their duties properly, then the responsibility for the conduct of the party election should be entrusted to others who can do the job.
