I'm sick, I need rest...

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 08:00 AM PST

I left early this afternoon from work... Not to go to gym. Not to be lazy. But...

Picture captured from www.highere.com

I'm sick. I need rest... I started to lose my voice, my hand was cold under the full blast air con. My head was spinning and my body temperature was unstable. I felt those since morning when i stepped into the office. So after lunch my body temperature climbed up... slight fever i belief.

Anyway, by 3pm i started to feel cold in the aircon. Whenever i feel cold in the air con room, it's the time to announce i'm Sick. I could tolerate very cold temperature if i'm not sick. So i decided to wrap up my work and left my office early.

While heading to my car @ the carpark, i made a call to my mom and told her i was going back for dinner. So once i reached home at about 4:30pm, took a shower and straightaway hit the bed... Slept like a pig :p

Unfortunately, my colleagues called me and woke me up to complaint another colleagues regarding she has not getting any reply from the person that she needed them today... Sigh~ She knew i was sick and she still buzzed me for this...Can i get a few hours off to recover from my sickness so that i could continue to work today... Sigh Sigh Sigh...

Man... what can i do now... Ciao~

military non malays: in defence of the indefensible

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 08:23 AM PST

excerpt:

Why have our ministers, politicians and civil servants gone so sour on our non-Malay Malaysians? What have the non-Malays done to deserve all the abuse and humiliation heaped onto them?

The latest taunt by Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is irresponsible. He has not just insulted Malaysians but also mocked the memory of the thousands of non-Malays who died defending Malaya, as it was then, from the Japanese invasion and also the communists in the Emergency. Was their sacrifice in vain?

This trend of making the non-Malay feel small, unwanted and irrelevant is on the rise. The sad thing is that the non-Malay component parties in BN have not come to the defence of the non-Malay Malaysians.

If they have done so, then their efforts are not very effective, as the unfair criticisms of our fellow non-Malay Malaysians keep recurring with alarming regularity and intensity.

if you have not read this excellent article yet by mariam mokhtar of the malaysian mirror, do read it now as i recommend it to you.  although you will be able to read it there (unlike malaysiakini, where you can't unless you are a subscriber), i will still CnP the article here in my blog.

mariam's article came about after the defence minister, zahid, had accused non malays of being unpatriotic just because they don't join the military (but later on he denied that – as expected! so typical of umnoputera!).

a comment in the malaysian insider summed it up very well:

The main reason why non Malays do not want to join the gomen services is because of rampant racism with almost impossible chances of promotion. Period.

and in malaysiakini too, there are several comments similiar to that.  there is even someone, who himself experienced the racism in the military, posting his story.  actually years back, i had already heard about this. many non malays had complained about this, especially in the military or police, they said they feel so bad, when imagine their subordinates (who are malays), suddenly become their superior! (which means they were passed over for promotion because they are non malays, instead their subordinates who are malays, get the promotion).

well mariam said it in her article – this is a case of ketuanan melayu (malay superiority). sad.

Military non-Malays:   In defence of the indefensible

COMMENT Why have our ministers, politicians and civil servants gone so sour on our non-Malay Malaysians?

Zahid said in parliament that the non-Malay component in the 2008/2009 recruitment was only 1.2% whereas 98.2% of this recruitment was made up of Malays.

The explanation he offered for the low non-Malay figure was that there was "a possible perception that the armed forces offer a lower pay than the private sector."

He then said, "The reasons could be because of a fear towards a tight discipline. It could be because of a low spirit of patriotism. It could be because certain ethnic groups had a negative perception of the armed forces and did not encourage participation."

These remarks are outrageous. Even if they had been made by a common person, who is functionally illiterate, then they are still not acceptable; That they were made by a minister, makes Zahid's position untenable.

Has the minister forgotten that he is a senior politician and a member of the Cabinet in His Majesty's Malaysian government?

Zahid has overstepped the mark. As a defence minister he is supposed to rally the troops and motivate the people to come to the defense of the country in times of conflict.

However, it appears that Zahid is causing conflict by calling non-Malays 'unpatriotic' and 'lacking in discipline'.

How does he justify his reasoning with his pathetic explanation about patriotism and discipline?

Discipline is the instant willingness to obey all orders, have respect for authority, to be self-reliant and be part of a team. It is also the ability to do the right thing, even when no one is watching.

It is not just the armed forces or security services that values discipline. Even simple everyday acts and jobs, have some measure of discipline in them. A self-employed person has to have a lot of discipline. A dedicated student has to be disciplined to work hard and study.

Zahid's false assumption is that Malays join the armed forces because they are more patriotic and very disciplined.

So just because few Malays go into commerce, does not mean they are non-risk takers and are unwilling to work hard to make their business grow.

Just because more Malay men read religious courses at university does not make the Malay women any less religious.

Just because more women read engineering and scientific courses at university, does not mean the men are too stupid to comprehend the finer points of science.

Instead of motivating the people, Zahid has probably succeeded in making fewer non-Malays interested in a career in the armed forces.

Maybe he could care to look at the bigger picture. People enter a profession and expect to move upwards and improve themselves.

However, the unseen hand of ketuanan Melayu works in mysterious ways. Non-Malays cannot find promotion as easily or at all, as their Malay counterparts.

In the armed forces, there is also institutionalised racism. How can the non-Malay feel accepted and work together as a team and as one, if they are made to feel different?

It does not help when in public, they are referred to as si-sepet or kaki botol and classified as immigrants?

Zahid's callous insensitive remarks seem to be the norm in Malaysian politics today.
In addition to this, Malaysian politicians seem to champion empty, ostentatious displays and confuse these with patriotism.

A few months ago, in an overzealous display of patriotic fervor, Ipoh Mayor Roshidi Hashim warned businesses that if they neglected to fly the state flag on the Perak Sultan's birthday and the Jalur Gemilang on Merdeka day, they risked losing their business licences and will be issued with compound fines or even be blacklisted.

A few years ago, schools felt pressured by the political call to show patriotism by the number of flags flown. Teachers precariously perched on the roofs of the multi- story buildings, erecting hundreds of flags.

Apart from the safety hazard and the bad example set, the hollow message was that more flags equate with greater patriotism.

Ministers and politicians like Zahid, who risk dismantling the fragile fabric of our society with their arrogance and insults, are not fit for purpose.

Does anybody take them seriously? Why won't our politicians defend the integrity, good name and honour of all Malaysians regardless of race, instead?

Pelajar UPSR Lahirkan Anak Haram! Ibu Termuda Di Malaysia.

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 07:59 AM PST

Terengganu Pecah rekod lagi! Tahniah Datuk Mat Said kerana dapat 'cucu baru'.

Rasanya Datuk Mat Said boleh mohon Malaysia Book of Records bagi mnyenaraikan Malaysia Boleh. Terengganu Boleh. Kita memecah rekord ibu termuda di Malaysia!.

Itu belum ajar pendidikan reproduksi (seks) ke sekolah-sekolah tu!.. kalau start ajar nanti bertambah alim le... bertambah le praktikal. Makin ramai le anak 1 Malaysia!!!

Alahai! Apa nak jadi ni Datuk Mat Said??? Janganlah dok sibuk berebut jawatan pengerusi Perhubungan UMNO terlupa masalah rakyat? Rakyat dah bagi amanah tu.. janganlah para YB dok sibuk berbalah terlupa nak jaga amanah pulak! -ustazsaifulbahri

Zahid Hamidi is right!

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 07:34 AM PST

I have to come in support of Zahid Hamidi, our Defense Minister and Umno vice-president. Like it or not, the conservative mind of most Malaysians still lingers on the believe that the Malays' duty is to defend the country, the Chinese shape up the economy while the Indians flourish the commodity.

No, sir! I am not racist. Facts are facts. Zahid is neither a racist nor a Malay warrior. But what he said at the Parliament yesterday should not be misinterpreted, especially by MCA President Chua Soi Lek and the non-Malays.

Zahid was talking about the pathetically duty of the Armed Forces, the no-interest shown by the Chinese and the Indians. He was not questioning the loyalty and integrity of the non-Malays but their poor response to new intakes in the armed forces.

There were only 903 non-Malays in the Malaysian Armed Forces who had joined the service within the last two years. They comprised 82 Indians, 26 Chinese, while the remaining 795 were from other ethnic groups from Sabah and Sarawak (read here).

He was not being insensitive by attributing the 'less sense of patriotism' among the non-Malays for their poor response toward calls to join the armed forces.

"There was also a possibility that it was because of the fear of the strict discipline in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), less attractive pay compared to the offer from the private sector, lack of encouragement from family members, and that there was less encouragement to join the ATM among the ethnic community because of the various negative prejudices," he said.

The Chinese is the second largest community in the country compared to the Indians but their participation was the least. Why?

Such a question normally draws simple answer - that majority of the Chinese are more keen in business and building up their own economy. Making money and getting rich is their utmost objective in life, no matter where they are.

Indonesia, the United States, Australia and Canada where many Chinese from the mainland had migrated a long time ago, the same pattern thrives. They are less concern in national security matters. When communal riots erupted in many parts of Indonesia in the late 90s, many Chinese millionaires fled the country for Singapore, Hong Kong and other nations.

So, what Zahid said is nothing new. He was reminding the needs for Malaysians (rpt, Malaysians) to come together in defending the country. I guess this is one of few major issues Prime Minister Najib got to address before he can claim success in his 1Malaysia. The other is to introduce 'Satu Sekolah Untuk Semua'.

There is no need for Chua and others to make a fuss out of it. It is a fact that the Malays are more concern for national security and defending the country. The number of Malays and Chinese in Malaysia is almost compatible, yet the Chinese is not keen (except for defending their money and property).

We cant blame them because they are such. In fact, its a good practice. The Malaysian Chinese have been sentimental in developing Malaysia's economy, and so are the Indians. The Malays, Chinese, Indians and other races of Malaysia have been living together with that 'understanding'.

But please dont accuse the police (where most of its members are also Malays) of being racist too. As records show more crimes are committed by the non-Malays, they (the non-Malays) are drawn to a conclusion that they police is always bias and racist in expediting their duty.

Lets not rekindle the past as to why their ancestors came to this country a long time ago. Did they come to defend Tanah Melayu, if one may ask? As far as I can recall, the Gurkhas did help defend Malaya!

My apology... but let us think about it.

24 Ketua Cabang PKR Tuntut Pemilihan Ditangguhkan

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 07:00 AM PST

Saya Cuma Minta Maaf Jika Berkecil Hati, Bukan Tarik Balik Suruh Bersara

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 06:15 AM PST

"Cumanya saya hanya memohon maaf jika beliau berkecil hati.

-mk

Terengganu dijangka berdepan banjir besar

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu dijangka mengalami banjir besar, bulan ini atau bulan depan, sekiranya hujan turun melebihi paras normal.

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pengurusan dan Bantuan Bencana (JPBB) Terengganu, Datuk Mazlan Ngah, berkata Jabatan Meteorologi meramalkan Terengganu akan mengalami jumlah taburan hujan 20 hingga 40 peratus melebihi paras normal pada musim tengkujuh sehingga Mac tahun depan akibat kesan Fenomena La Nina.

Ijazah Palsu, Fazley Letak Jawatan

-mstar

Khir Toyo Dimasukkan Ke Hospital Disyaki Demam Denggi

Perletakan Jawatan Zaid. Nurul Izzah Terasa Kehilangannya

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 02:30 AM PST

Waiting and Waiting

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 02:26 AM PST

Sorry for the silence. I am not myself today as the UPSR results will be released tomorrow. Waiting can be an ordeal.

Contrary to what some may think, I did not push my younger boy to study. Neither did I pore over the books with him. I did not mark his work with the exception of the occasional write-ups he did just before English exams.

The moment of reckoning will dawn soon and I am biting my nails and wondering if I did right.

From the time he went to nursery till the present, I told my boy that the best gift I can give to him apart from love and all the mothering he needs without smothering him, would be the gift of education. And I always impressed on him that he must study not for me, his dad or anyone but himself and his own future.

I do not believe in pushing children or students to work for the sake of results but I believe in teaching children/students to realize that education must make them a better person, change their perspective, honor their parents, morals and values and not forgetting ensure a better future for them.

The litmus test will come tomorrow.

My son asked me this morning...Mom, if I don't do well, will you scold me?

"Of course not," was my response. "You tried your best and that is what matters."

Honestly, it has not been easy for me to reach this point in my life. Years ago, I pushed my older boy LOTS cos I guided so many former students to ivy league universities and I thought I could do the same with my older boy! It was tough as I had not factored in his personality and how insensitive I was NOT to have considered his emotions. Being demanding and pushy, I drove him away from me when he went through his teenage angst while coping with my endless nagging for him to study!

And if I could turn the clock back, I would. I would want to do it all over again...but I cannot. Yet, I am thankful that despite my failings, my older boy and I have a great relationship now and he is doing what he loves best. It was not easy letting go of my dreams but what matters is that he is chasing his own dreams.

With that lesson learnt, I adopted a different parenting style with Nick who has turned out differently.

And yet, I shudder nervously as I know he is moving into his teens and things might get rough sometimes...

Here I am, waiting and waiting for tomorrow to come and to be there to tell my son that no matter what he gets, I love him and I always will...regardless!!!

Parenting is certainly not for cowards and is definitely the most difficult job in the world but one that gives lifetime dividends!

To all other parents whose children will be getting their UPSR results tomorrow, I wish you and yours every success.

Take care and God bless you all always!
