Before the year ends: Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever amen

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 11:00 AM PST

Just want to thank God for a year of blessings. Indeed, God is the Giver of all good things.

Firstly, thanks to God for His protection. He has blessed all my travels on the road throughout the year. I remember one morning, while I was driving to work with my wife and kid in tow, I looked into the rear-view mirror and saw a big bee (or wasp!) crawling on the ceiling. It was coming nearer to the front. I was terrified. Quickly, I alerted my wife, turned on the hazard light and had to wind down all four windows. Trying to  be as calm as possible, I slowly drove to the emergency lane. Cut the story short, the bee had flown away before I could look for it and probably kill it. Thank God that He protected us from being stung by the bee!

There are many more things that I can thank God for - His faithfulness in good and bad times, health and healing,  sustenance, financial providence and the list goes on.

Now may the God of peace
who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead,
that great Shepherd of the sheep,
through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
make you complete in every good work to do His will,
working in you what is well pleasing in His sight,
through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Tamat separuh masa pertama!

Sikit jer lagi nak gol.

Comic book journalist retires

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 08:10 AM PST

Brenda Starr had been in the Malaysian newspapers since goodness knows when. I do remember reading this comic strip in the 1970s. The drawings were horrible but so were the story lines.

Then I stopped reading it for a long while when the local newspaper dropped it.

Brenda Starr came back into my reading horizon maybe about 10 years ago when The Star newspaper included the comic strip on its funny pages.

By then I had also begun following Brenda Starr online. Now I'm saddened because the strip's writers - June Brigman and Mary Schmich - have decided to retire our heroine. It's final. The last strip will appear on 2 Jan 2011.

Goodbye, Brenda Starr. Your readers in Malaysia will miss you.

Blogger to sue Hamid Albar

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 07:47 AM PST

We have heard some cases where politicians and businessmen took legal action against few bloggers. Rockybru against NSTP is still pending (and he might add another should Rais Yatim files his), RPK got a few while RBF was almost hooked.

However, this new case is rather different. Its a total turnaround. A blogger is considering legal actions against a former senior minister.

Its between Akramshah Sanusi against Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, a minister during Pak Lah's era, whom the blogger calls 'a failure and a non-performer' as a Foreign Minister and Home Minister then.

I believe he got every reasons to proceed.

Go on, bro...

An Unusual Breakup Letter *humor*

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 08:30 AM PST

Dear [insert screen name here] (if that is your real name),

I regret to inform you that, under a plan for the periodic removal of unpleasantness from my life, I must terminate our online affair.

This termination takes effect immediately, but only because I could not make it retroactive. Below, you will find the reasons for this action:

While our cyber**x sessions were, for the most part, competent, your constant use of "brb gotta pee" took some of the romance out of it.

Your use of the term "the ol' cyber ball and chain" to refer to me has hurt my feelings.

I've found another lover, one who knows the importance of punctuation.

Certain errors during cyber sessions indicate that you were less than honest:

You typed: "I remove my bra" when you claimed to be a man.

You typed: "I enter you" when you claimed to be a woman.

You typed your own name at the end.

Your supposedly original scenario, it turns out, is simply page 56 of a Jackie Collins novel.

Your repeated references to animals suggest that you are hiding something from me.

Your refusal to cyber until I submitted a recent AIDS test suggests a degree of paranoia that is, simply put, unhealthy.

I finally opened the file with your __ gif __ jpg __ police record.

I have no choice but to comply with the court orders unless I wish to face stalking charges.

Mommie says I need to spend less time on the computer.

Your mommie called me and yelled at me because of all the time you're spending on the computer.

I have established a more personal relationship with the Lord, and I would like to talk to you in great detail about what you can do to ensure a place in Heaven when the endtimes come. They are closer than you think.

The fact that you BCC all your love letters to me leaves me feeling less than special. As in cyber cheating, I finally read your profile, and the fact that you are only 14 violates the terms of my parole.

I am entering the witness protection program.

Please understand, __ [screen name] and/or __ that there is nothing personal in this. We've simply grown apart.

Any additional correspondence you may direct to my attorney,

Sincerely,

Gleefully,

I have to go before the warden calls "lights out,"

Uh oh, my Real Life mate is coming up the stairs,

Good riddance,

I missed my happy childhood, playing Burmese traditional games in Meikhtila, at the age of 7-10 yr

I missed my happy childhood, playing Burmese traditional games in Meikhtila, at the age of 7-10 yr. My mother's cousin Ma Nwe' was staying with us. I used to help her washing dishes, even cleaning the bottom of the dark pots with the rough gr sand-soap powder, so that she could join us to play games with the children and teenagers from our Dahattan Quarters. I remember the daughters of Contractor U khin Maung who were like cousin sisters to my mother, playing together with us.

Source: Htote Si Htoe

Htote Si Toe or a border-crossing game is a pure Myanmar traditional past-time game played by young people of both sexes. It originated long ago in rural areas but has been enjoyed by both rural and urban children alike.

A table has to be drawn on the ground marking in it borders such as top, middle, axis and diagonal. The players are divided into two teams, with the players of one team staying on, and moving along, the borders while those of the other team try to cross the lines without being caught or touched by the opposition players.

The winning team is decided by whether it can successfully protect the borders or cross every line from start to finish then back to the starting point. The game involves much physical activity as one team of players has to block the border lines while the other team members have to run across them. Sharpness of eyesight, smart decisions and rapid movements as well as team spirit are crucial to the game.

The game has become less common in big cities as the children have turned to more modern pursuits.

1Malaysia in the doldrums, just a hypocritical slogan...

Malaysia: Church officials told to remove crucifixes and avoid hymn singing when Prime Minister attended Archbishop's Christmas party.

Maybe the aides were indeed "paranoid," but they were directing the Christians to behave according to traditional strictures for dhimmis in Islamic law: dhimmis -- primarily Jews and Christians under the "protection" of the Islamic state -- are "forbidden to openly display wine or pork, (A: to ring church bells or display crosses,) recite the Torah or Evangel aloud, or make public display of their funerals and feastdays" ('Umdat al-Salik, o11.5(6) ).

"'Paranoid' aides told church to remove crosses for Najib visit," by Debra Chong in the Malaysian Insider, December 29:

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 - Catholic church officials were told to remove crucifixes and to avoid hymns being sung when Prime Minister Najib Razak attended the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur's Christmas tea party last Saturday. The overzealous bid to protect the prime minister's Islamic credentials was described by sources familiar with what happened as "paranoid" and done without Najib's knowledge.

The sources also noted the actions of officials from the prime minister's office could have jeopardised warming religious ties. No kidding, really?

The Malaysian Insider understands that Najib's men may have been spooked by the National Fatwa Council's recent repeated announcements over Muslims at non-Muslim celebrations and had tripped over themselves to ensure his attendance at the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur's Christmas Day high-tea passed without a hitch....

Among the directives given were:

. To remove any overt Christian symbol, such as crucifixes, from the party premises

. That carollers not belt out hymns

. Not to quote from Scriptures or say any Christian prayer during the visit.

Similar conditions have been laid in previous Christmas celebrations, including those graced by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong himself, said a member of the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM), the umbrella body representing the various denominations.... Hat tip:Jihad Watch

This one requires some documentation. Here are the best numbers I could find in Arabs killing Arabs since 1948, mostly relying on Wikipedia.

War Year started Low estimate deaths High estimate deaths
Algeria civil war 1954 150000 800000
North Yemen Civil War - Egypt 1962 100000 126000
Black September, Jordan 1970 2000 25000
Sahara war 1975 10000 24000
Lebanese Civil War 1975 130000 250000
Libya Egypt war 1977 500 500
Iraq under Saddam 1979 600000 800000
Hama massacre, Syria 1982 17000 40000
South Yemen civil war 1986 10000 10000
Iraq invasion of Kuwait 1990 1000 2000
Yemen civil war 1994 7000 7000
Yemen - Sa'adah Insurgency 2004 5000 8300
Hamas-Fatah fighting 2006 600 600
Lebanon Camps 2007 275 275
TOTAL
1033375 2093675
As you can see, estimates vary wildly for many of these events. I pretty much took the midpoints for the purposes of the chart, estimating about 1.5 million Arab deaths. (There have been perhaps 60,000 Arabs killed in all the Arab/Israeli wars combined including the intifadas.) I tried not to include Kurdish deaths nor those Arabs killed by the French during the Algerian war - much of that war was a civil war as well. I also did not include the Iran/Iraq war at all since that was not Arab on Arab violence, and Muslim on Muslim deaths is an entirely different set of numbers. Elder of Ziyon

The Way Forward

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 05:28 AM PST

With all the bickering going on in the political landscape, it appears that the powers that be have forgotten who will tip the scales in the next General Elections.

Have you read this post called East Malaysia: the REAL Third Force in Malaysian politics by RPK? There he argued that whoever gets to form the next federal government and whether it will be with a simple majority or a two-thirds majority will depend on East Malaysia.

In terms of facts and figures, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan control a total of 57 parliament seats out of a total of 222 seats which means 165 parliament seats belong Peninsular or West Malaysia are almost equally divided between BN and PR. You can see the breakdown AT THIS LINK. that outlines how PKR started off on a wrong footing in Sabah and Sarawak.

Realistically speaking, BN and PKR have been trying to make a headway in the East Malaysian scene. We are well aware of why BN has won most of the votes. However, PKR can forget about making a headway in East Malaysia for many reasons. Check out THIS LINK that gives quite a detailed explanation from the viewpoint of a Sarawakian.

Many of us who have been following online news portals are well aware of the challenging and pressing issues faced by our East Malaysian brethren but may not be aware of the way some are trying to impose their agenda on them without taking into consideration their background, culture, needs, motivation and so much more.

For far too long, Sabah and Sarawak have not been enjoying the attention or development that they rightly deserve despite making that decision to join Malaysia. Just imagine the indignation they feel with regards to their oil royalty, or the fact that despite being the states with the richest resources, there is much poverty and underdevelopment that persist.

Think of how their resources are being plundered, how the NCR land is being taken away from them including their ancestral land, temuda, pulau galau, pemakai meno etc. How much longer can East Malaysians continue to suffer the effects of controversial dams and charcoal plants? How much longer can they tolerate the manner in which the population ratio is being tipped in favor of foreigners who are given MyKads so easily?

Concerns have been expressed as to how they seem to have lost their 18/20 Points agreements and the older folk who are not connected still think the world of the ruling regime.

Just look at their infrastructure and compare these or what is lacking with the glam shots of socialites in Sarawak Report and I am quite sure your heart may bleed at the injustice of it all.

Honestly, I wish MPs in East Malaysia would rise to the occasion for the people of Malaysia and make that difference in the next General Elections.

I opine that the Sarawakians and Sabahans must rise up and reclaim their land. Currently, many are toothless in terms of fighting for the people. If they offer new leaders of calibre and WIN BIG TIME, this will surely tip the scale of power and BN will no longer be in power. I am well aware that there are many capable Sarawakians and Sabahans who can lead their state governments if only they are given the chance. Even if they are NOT given the chance to do so, by all means, set up your own party somehow and stand for elections!!! Or offer worthy and capable candidates who will fight for the people's rights and not that of a few persons with their own selfish agenda.

Most sincerely, I appeal to them to truly step forward. The time has come to move forward and with all the fighting that is going on in West Malaysia, it almost seems as though the last vestige of hope is in East Malaysia. And I believe it will happen if they arise and claim back what rightly belongs to them.

Allow me to end with a post written by my friend last year which first appeared in this blog and was subsequently carried by Malaysia Today and many other websites.

DAYAKS - ARISE, UNITE AND CLAIM BACK YOUR LAND

In the early 90's Taib came up with his so called visionary "Politics of Development". In various gatherings and speeches, he told Sarawakians then that his new found idea would transform Sarawak into a model state in Malaysia.

Under this noble idea, land will be developed and people will reap huge benefits and would improve their economic and social being, so he claimed!

However, large tracts of land are owned by the Dayaks who have acquired them through native customary rights which is provided for under Sarawak Land Code 1958.

Taib saw that the land code as a stumbling block for his "Politics of Development". So, he went on to change the provisions of the land code pertaining to Native Customary Land especially S5(2) not once but FOUR times. The manner in which he passed those amendments is akin to a boat owner fixing leaks in his boat!

The Amendments

In 1994 minister in charge of land matters was given the power to extinguish native customary rights to land.

In 1996, the onus was placed on a native claimant to prove that he has customary rights to the land

In 1998 mechanisms for assessment and payment of compensation were put in place in event of compulsory acquisition.

In 2000 the amendment deleted "any lawful methods" as set out in S5(2)(f).

In 2002 following Nor Nyawai case, Land Surveyors Ordinance 2002, was passed allowing only licensed surveyor to make, authorize or sign any cadastral map. It means only Land & Survey Department can come up with a map!

Following Nor Nyawai case, Taib passed another law relating to land matters - the Land Surveyors Ordinance 2002 which provides for only licensed surveyor to make, authorise or sign any cadastral map. It means only Land & Survey Department can come up with a map! So Dayaks can no longer prepare their own map of their own area by themselves or by a third party.

So by now, Taib has fixed all the leaks, and the Dayaks are in a fix!

The net effect of these amendments is to legalize the process of taking away native customary right land (NCL) and alienate them to politicians, cronies, relatives who in turn sell them to big time oil palm planters!

And so began the process of land grabbing by the State which is run by state Barisan National , led by party Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu of which Taib is the president.

As the laws are being changed, the process of giving away licences and provisional leases to whosoever Taib desires, began in earnest. A number of licences and provisional leases have been issued by Taib to his family members, cronies and who later sell them to local and private oil palm planters.

The provisional leases holders armed with the lease waste not time and start working on the land indicated in the lease with little regard to the presence of people's garden, farm house, farmed area, buildings/structures or even burial ground!. To them everything that stands on their new found land is theirs and can be removed or bulldozed at will. Past records have indeed proved that they could do it with impunity! They have the "papers" whereas the NCL owners have nothing to show other than the crops that they have planted for ages!

This is how some of the confrontations occurred between the new land owners the NCL owners who are 99% Dayaks. The number of cases that are pending court hearing is almost reaching 200. But some just gave up fighting against the might of Sarawak state government - a government who always claim that they care for the rakyat at least during election time!!

Where can the NCL owners turn to defend their rights?

Nobody, Nobody, Nobody !!!!

CLICK HERE FOR THE REST OF THE ARTICLE.

Seriously, I hope PR leaders and everyone else in the Opposition would stop washing dirty linen in public. The time has come to unite and to fight the common enemy who is laughing all the way to the poll station. East Malaysian brothers and sisters, please...spread the word and ensure that we work together to effect that change we need in this country!!!

To me, that is the only way forward...

Truly, it is NOW OR NEVER!!!

Piala Suzuki AFF: Indonesia 0 Malaysia 0

JAKARTA: Selepas separuh masa pertama berakhir sebentar tadi, kedudukan pertemuan Indonesia-Malaysia pada final kedua Piala Suzuki AFF di Stadium Gelora Bung Karno terikat 0-0.

Indonesia hampir mendahului selepas mendapat sepakan penalti pada minit ke-18 tetapi tendangan Firman Utina dapat diselamatkan penjaga gol Malaysia, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.

Sementara itu, beberapa insiden membabitkan pancaran cahaya laser turut dilakukan penyokong, termasuk ketika Khairul menghadapi tendangan sudut, sepakan percuma dan penalti.

Masih Seri, Penyokong Indonesia Baling Botol

Muhammad Ridwan berusaha menjangkaunya, tetapi didahului Khairul Fahmi.
