Islam says that not all religions are equal. So, some religions are equal lah!!

A 'religious' war has just started and it certainly looks 'politically' motivated.

Islam says that not all religions are equal, the federal government's main religious think tank Ikim clarified today, as Umno-linked scholars began an attack on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for promoting religious pluralism.
The Institute of Islamic Understanding's (Ikim) statement comes just a day after a forum organised by Islamic scholars accused the opposition leader of equating Islam with other religions for political mileage.

Why is Ikim afraid that Islam will be threatened by 'religious pluralism' if indeed Islam is supreme?

What is 'religious pluralism'? Is it in the Constitution?

Arrived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, then a transfer to London, Ontario, and the journey was about 25 minutes by a turbo prop. It was bump]y at the lower level but as soon as the plane reached 10,000 feet above sea level it was fine.
From above the whole landscape was covered with snow, and heard over the news many road had to be closed due to blizzard. And it ain't no winter wonderland for sure! But Za and Jen and Steve were ray of sunshine when we arrived, especially Za who said "Hello Atok"!

[Bergambar] Rumah Allah Di Lokasi Menakjubkan

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 09:17 AM PST

Call off talks with Singapore, ban Kausikan!

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 07:34 AM PST

"Simple analogy – imagine sitting with someone that you know who has been bad-mouthing you to others. How would you feel?" - by Mergawati Zulfakar of The Star newspaper under the headline Singapore's Disdain Exposed.

I agree.

She was referring to the Malaysia-Singapore meeting on Dec 22 where the Republic's most senior officer at the Foreign Ministry Bilahari Kausikan will lead a delegation to discuss KTM Berhad's land swap deal.

Malaysian officials will be sitting down with the very man who claimed, among others, that Malaysia was "confused and dangerous, fueled by the distinct possibility of racial conflict", as exposed by Wikileaks.

Now, where is our dignity? We have been 'bowing out' to Singapore on many occasions. The KTM land deal, the water concession (the cheapest in the world), our Woodlands naval base and most but not least the manner they won Pulau Batu Putih.

We have been very tolerance each time their jet fighters invade our air space and closed our eyes to their reclaimation of land across Johore which is environmentally-hazardous to our marine lifes and affecting the income of our fishermen.

What else? We help them becoming rich all this while and let them re-export of products with their 'Produce of Singapore' labelling.

There were never sincere as far as our two-way relations are concerned. They are selfish and only took us for a ride. To them, Malaysia is a low-class nation and will forever never be at par with them.'

Sickening! And we still want to say 'hello brothers' to them? Do we need to pretend our displeasure when both sides meet up next week? I think its better to call off or postpone the meeting indefinitely until someone apologizes.

After all, they have been treating us like cheapskates!

Children's Proverbs

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 07:08 AM PST

A first grade teacher collected well known proverbs. He gave each kid in the class the first half of the proverb, and asked them to come up with the rest. Here is what the kids came up with:

People in glass houses shouldn't . . . run around naked.

Better to be safe than . . . punch a 5th grader.

Strike while the . . . bug is close.

It's always darkest before . . . daylight savings time.

Never underestimate the power of . . . termites.

You can lead a horse to water but . . . how?

Don't bite the hand that . . . looks dirty.

No news is . . . impossible.

A miss is as good as a . . . Mr.

You can't teach an old dog . . . math.

If you lie down with dogs, you . . . will stink in the morning.

Love all, trust . . . me.

The pen is mightier than . . . the pigs.

An idle mind is . . . the best way to relax.

Where there is smoke, there is . . . pollution.

Happy is the bride who . . . gets all the presents.

A penny saved is . . . not much.

Two is company, three is . . . The Musketeers.

None are so blind as . . . Helen Keller.

Children should be seen and not . . . spanked or grounded.

If at first you don't succeed . . . get new batteries.

You get out of something what you . . . see pictured on the box.

When the blind lead the blind . . . get out of the way.

MB Kedah Sampaikan Anugerah Gelaran Penaung LIFE Dan First Insaniah-IRTI 2010 Kepada Mahathir

Speaker Senget, Ahli Parlimen PR Pula Fokus Hal Wikileaks

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 06:03 AM PST

Speaker gagal kawal perjalanan sidang Dewan Rakyat

Dinafi hak pertahan diri

Panggil mereka, ambil keterangan dua jam," katanya.

Kuasa majoriti

Usul gantung 3 MP PR

Pagi tadi, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz membawa usul menggantung ketiga-tiga ahli parlimen terbabit kerana beberapa kesalahan.

Tiada Kes Untuk Babitkan TGNA & Ariffahmi - SPRM

10 out of 20 Simple Ways to Get Happy

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 04:34 AM PST

1984 single "Happy Song", Hansa Reco...

Image via Wikipedia

State of Mind. There are many ways to swerve off the path of anxiety, anger, frustration, and sadness into a state of happiness once or even several times throughout the day.

1. Practice mindfulness. Be in the moment. Instead of worrying about your checkup tomorrow while you have dinner with your family, focus on the here and now — the food, the company, the conversation.

2. Laugh out loud. Just anticipating a happy, funny event can raise levels of endorphins and other pleasure-inducing hormones and lower production of stress hormones.

3. Go to sleep. Taking a daily nap or getting into bed earlier one night can do more for your mood and outlook on life than any number of bubble baths or massages.

4. Hum along. Music soothes and is also relaxing.. music activates parts of the brain that produce happiness — the same parts activated by food or sex.

5. Declutter. It's nearly impossible to meditate, breathe deeply, or simply relax when every thing in your room, on your desk and in the cupboard is full and messy.

Block and Focus

6. Just say no. Eliminate activities that aren't necessary and that you don't enjoy. If there are enough people already to handle something, just say no and let someone else handle things.

7. Make a list. There's nothing like writing down your tasks to help you organize your thoughts and calm your anxiety. Checking off each item provides a great sense of fulfillment.

8. Do one thing at a time. People who multitask are more likely to have high blood pressure.

9. Garden. Not only will the fresh air and exercise provide their own stress reduction and feeling of well-being, but the sense of accomplishment that comes from clearing a weedy patch, watching seeds turn into flowers, or pruning out dead wood will last for hours, if not days.

10. Tune out the news. For one week go without reading the newspaper, watching the news, or scanning the headlines online. Instead, take a vacation from the misery we're exposed to every day via the media and use that time for a walk, a meditation session, or to write in your journal.

I had made a gist and minor edit. Please read all (20) in detail at the Sourse_Readers Digest: 20 Simple Ways to Get Happy. Take control of your mood and improve your health Home

Parlimen: Usul Gantung Tiga Wakil Rakyat Pembangkang Kerana Hina Dewan

- BERNAMA

Account for the Spike in RELA Membership!

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 03:07 AM PST

Feeling bored this evening, I surfed the net for news and came across this article in The Star HERE (Sunday December 12, 2010) about how the membership of the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) has swelled within the past 18 months, hitting the two million mark as of Oct 31.

Mind you, RELA only had 556,286 members in April last year but the number has since gone up to 2,042,215.

That means that in 18 months since April 2009 till Oct 2010 ( about 547 days), 1, 485, 929 persons joined RELA!! That is an increase of 267%!!!

That means 2716.5 persons JOINED RELA EVERYDAY for the period shown!!!

How can it be? Even with a recruitment campaign by RELA, it is quite unlikely that public response to volunteer can be that overwhelming!

Check out the official web HERE.

The application is easy as can be seen HERE.

Check out the role of RELA HERE.

According the The Star report HERE:

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said movements such as Rela could play a significant role in helping the Government keep peace and safety of the nation.

"Rela members who worked in 'hot spot' areas would have had the experience to curb crime rates in non-hot spot areas," he said in a statement yesterday.

Hishammuddin said volunteer groups such as Rela were the foundation for the launch of a programme known as "1Platun, 1Kampung, 1Taman."

The programme will ensure every village and housing area had a team that was trained to ensure the safety of the place.

To keep Rela relevant to the society, Hishammuddin said its programmes and image would be given a re-branding.

I googled for "1Platun, 1Kampung, 1Taman" and was quite surprised to see that it was heavily reported in Malay MSM but not in other presses.

Shouldn't the police and the army be responsible for keeping law and order and maintaining the peace and safety of the nation?

In October this year, NST reported HERE:

Malaysia is developing a Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) to tackle criminal cases, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Abu Seman Yusop told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

"This is part of the long-term strategy to improve the capability of the police.

"We will also be increasing the number of policemen to investigate these cases," he said in reply to a question from Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) on the number of murder cases solved nationwide.

In July this year, AFP reported:

MALAYSIA'S plan to deploy personnel from a notorious volunteer task force to help enforce a crackdown on crime triggered criticism on Thursday from human rights campaigners.

The New Straits Times said the home ministry had enlisted 254 members from the Civil Defence Department and RELA, a 553,000-strong citizen corps that has been accused of serious rights abuses.

The report described the personnel as the 'cream of the crop' and said they were undergoing a two-week training programme before being assigned to crime hot spots next month.

However, human rights groups said that RELA officers were unsuited to the task, and called for the closure of the unit which has been accused of violence and extortion, particularly against suspected illegal migrants.

'They shouldn't be given enforcement power because they are volunteers - they are not trained, and have no background in law or how to handle criminals,' said Ms Temme Lee from leading rights watchdog Suaram.

'We have made it clear from the beginning that RELA should be disbanded and the use of RELA corps with barely any training in law and enforcement will lead to more rights abuses,' she told AFP.

Amnesty International Malaysia also spoke out against the plan. 'Why don't we hire more police instead? We should stop this temporary measure,' said its Malaysia executive director Nora Murat.

The US-based Human Rights Watch has accused RELA of harassing and abusing foreigners and said it was responsible for numerous cases of illegal detention.

With all the concerns and objections, why glorify RELA?

I support Nora Murat's call to hire more police and reduce the reliance on volunteers. At the same time, I hope the authorities concerned can account for this sudden spike in RELA membership!

“Money is only worthy if given to those in need”

This extraordinary woman thinks nothing of living a life devoid of luxuries in order to help those less fortunate than her By ESTHER LIANG

All she needs is food and a place to sleep. Everything else is a luxury. Chen Shu-chuAfter the morning hustle and bustle, the atmosphere at Tai-tung county's Central Market quietens as every stall shuts for the day and their owners return to the comfort of their homes. A lone lamp shines on a vegetable stall. With head bowed, Chen Shu-Chu silently sorts out the vegetable leaves as she waits for the occasional afternoon customer. Decades of hard work have caused the fingers on the right hand to curl and joints to swell; her feet have deformed slightly.

Chen leads her life with a daily routine – waking up at three in the morning, she makes her way to the vegetable wholesaler and sets up her stall, which she tends till seven or eight in the evening. Being the first to arrive and last to leave, the other stall owners have fondly given her the title of 'market manager'.

In the dark and damp market, Chen, nearing her sixties, holds the stall her father left her dearly. Yuan-Jin Vegetables is her everything. With her vegetables selling at "a bundle for 30 dollars, three bundles for 50", Chen earns only marginal profits. Yet, her frugality has allowed her to donate about NT$10 million ($321,550) towards various charitable causes, including helping schools, orphanages and poor children.

The selfless generosity of a woman with such humble income has placed her under the international spotlight. In March, Forbes magazine named her one of 48 outstanding philanthropists from the Asia-Pacific region. A month later, TIME magazine selected the year's top 100 influential people and Chen emerged under the 'Heroes of Philanthrophy' category. Fellow Taiwanese and Oscar-winning director Lee Ang wrote her entry personally. "Money is only worthy if given to those in need," he quoted Chen. He also wrote, "Amazing, but of all she has given away, her greatest gift is leading by example."

Despite the honour of receiving the TIME award in New York, gaining global recognition, and a personal meeting with President Ma Ying-jeou, all Chen really cares about is her vegetable stall. If not for President Ma and the foreign minister personally convincing her to go, she would not have agreed to visit New York as she felt "this is not a competition and I did not win anything". Amid the frenzy of applying for a passport and preparing for the visit, Chen's main concern was that her regular customers would not get their vegetables.

Chen has become a celebrity in Taitung county. Local authorities decorated her stall with congratulatory posters and banners hailing her as the 'Pride of Taitung' and the 'Model of Philanthropy'. There are fans who turn up at the stall with a vegetable basket and a camera, hoping for a picture with Chen. Despite all the attention, Chen remains humble. "I have done nothing extraordinary and everyone who wants to can do it. There are many other charitable people; we just don't know about them." Chen, who is unmarried, adds, "I do not place great importance on money. When I donate to help others, I feel at peace and happy, and I can sleep well at night." She also feels for the poor having experienced hardship in her younger days.

Born in 1950, Chen lost her mother after completing her primary school education. Her mother was admitted to hospital due to difficulties in labour and the family had to pay an insurance of NT$5000 ($160) before medical attention could be granted. Chen saw her father asking their neighbours for money but it was too late to save her mother. The eldest daughter in the family, Chen had to grow up overnight. She gave up her studies and dedicated her life to helping at the vegetable stall.

When she was 18, her younger brother fell sick and the illness dragged on for over a year, gradually depleting the family's savings. Doctors suggested the family send her brother to Taiwan National University Hospital, but how could they afford the fees? Huang Shun-zhong, a teacher at Ren-ai Primary School, started a donation drive. Unfortunately, her brother could not be saved.

After experiencing the kindness bestowed upon her family, Chen made up her mind to help the poor once she was able. When her father passed away 17 years ago, Chen, a devoted Buddhist, generously donated NT$1 million ($32,140) to Fo Guang Shan Monastery. In 2000, she donated NT$1 million to her alma mater, Ren-ai Primary School, to set up an "Emergency Relief Fund" to help poor children obtain financial help.

Assisting in the setting up and maintenance of the fund is Li Guorong, who teaches Chen's nephew. In 2001, Li had a plan to build a library for the school and estimated the cost to be between NT$4 million and NT$5 million. When he approached Chen, in the hope that she might contribute NT$50,000, Li was shocked when Chen said she would fund the entire project. While the school was sceptical, Chen was determined. In May 2005, the two-storey library was completed and named "Chen Shu-Chu Library" in honour of the 'Vegetable Market heroine' alumnus. She had donated NT$4.5 million.

Chen's ability to donate such large sums of money has led many to ask, How can a mere vegetable seller earn so much?

"Spend only what you need, and you'll be able to save up a lot of money!" says Chen. Since 1996, she has been donating NT$36,000 ($1150) to help three children in the Kids-alive International organisation. To achieve this, Chen explains that she empties her loose change into three little cardboard boxes at home every night. "This is a simple act that can be done by anyone, isn't it?" says Chen.

Chen leads a very simple life without any luxuries. Neither does she have any desire for material gains nor any form of enjoyment. Work, she says, is her enjoyment. "I love my work. If I didn't, would I be able to work 16 hours a day?" All she needs is food and a place to sleep. Everything else is a luxury.

Has business improved after winning the award? "Business is as usual," Chen says. "I still need to sell my vegetables, not much has changed." Advertisers have approached her to film commercials, financial managers have offered to manage her finances and other well-wishers have offered to donate money. Chen rejects these advances politely. "It is easy to return borrowed money, but difficult to return a favour," she says.

"My philosophy in life is simple: If doing something makes you worried, then it must be a wrong thing. If it makes you happy, then you must have done the right thing. What others say is not important," says Chen. She is content with what she has and feels that as long as she "lives a life she wishes for and does the things she wants, that is good enough".
