My very first Team Building in 2011

My very first Team Building in 2011

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 09:39 AM PST

I just switch to a new environment last week and they nominated me to organize this quarter team building.  I cracked my head to think what would be the more suitable activities for team building. So i started to check with the team members what have they done for the past. And at the same time check with my boss on the budget.

It's a half a day teambuilding. So i quickly shortlisted three choices for the team to choose
1. Karaoke @ Neway
2. Ice skating + meal
3. Archery + meal

Guess what? Majority has choosen...

Yup It's archery... I think everyone wanna to be Robin Hood. *wink*

TZ is going to Sunway Pyramid for Archery this afternoon for team building... but now let's hit the bed and have a nice sleep. :p

Press Conference Statement By Penang Chief Minister In Komtar, George Town On 19.1.2011

Penang Is The No.1 State For Total Capital Investments In 2010 Attracting RM 12,238 Million, Up Nearly 5 Times As Compared To RM 2,165 Million In 2009 And Comprising 26% Of Malaysia's Total Investments Of RM47,177 Million For 2010.

According to Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), Penang is the No.1 state for total capital investments in manufacturing projects in 2010 attracting RM 12,238 million, up nearly 5 times as compared to RM 2,165 million in 2009. This is the first time in history that Penang has topped the list of investments amongst all states and is the highest investment received ever. This success is due to the hard work by the 1.6 million Penangites together with state government leaders and agencies as well as federal government agencies from MIDA and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

Penang's investments were derived from new investments of RM 2,846 million and expansion by existing investors of RM 9,392 million. Clearly these figures only captured those industries that sought incentives from MIDA and not the new or expansion investments that did not require grants from the federal government.

The significance of this historic achievement is highlighted by Penang contribution of RM 12,238 million to Malaysia investment constituting 26% of Malaysia's total investments of RM 47,177 million of 2010. Yesterday Minister of international trade and industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed announced a 45% increase in Malaysia 2010 investment performance from RM 32,637 million in 2009 to RM 47,177 million in 2010. Penang moved up from No. 4 in 2009 to Nol 1 in 2010, increasing by 465% from RM 2,165 million in 2009 to RM 12,238 million in 2010.(see attached)

The 465% increase in investments in Penang reflects confidence in the energy, expertise and entrepreneurship of our human talent. Further this is an affirmation of the state government's strategy of promoting Penang as a location of choice based on 7 critical success factors(CSF) of growth:-

1. Ready availability of skilled human talent;

2. Effective and efficient supply chain management;

3. Competent and reliable logistics and communications hub

4. Strong Intellectual Property protection;

5. Good governance and effective leadership;

6. Building creativity and innovation in science and technology; and

7. Livable and intelligent city.

Penang believes that CAT governance of competency accountability and transparency has also built confidence that a government with integrity can make things happen and both execute and deliver. Penang was not only the best performer in managing state finances in Malaysia according to the Auditor-General Report for 2009 but also received accolades for anti-corruption from Transparency International.

As the newly-crowned champion amongst all states in attracting investments, the Penang state government wishes to congratulate the people of Penang. With the best financial performance, the best state in clean governance, the best green practices and now the top performer in investments, Penangites can now proudly say "Penang Leads!".

Thaipusam is dead in Singapore

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 08:48 AM PST

'Thaipusam and the fire walking ceremony in Singapore this year is dead. This is because the PAP government thinks that Indians here pray to demons and devils...'

I am proud to be a Malaysian. I can enjoy its well-diverse culture and heritage. We have the rights to our religions, schools, languages and believe. I swear, never did it cross my mind to be a Singaporean (or any other nations) although I enjoyed visiting relatives and friends during my school days.

Yesterday was Thaipusam in Malaysia. As usual, Batu Caves, Penang and other Hindu worship places throughout the country held similar ceremony and procession. Tourists flock it every year for its colorful and unusual event.

Even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was the guest of honor in Batu Caves to symbolise how Malaysians from all walks of life have recognised Thaipusam as a national event and celebration.

I feel sorry for our Hindu friends in the Republic. An article here explains everything.

'Looking at the Hindus walking down the road at midnight with no fanfare at all is like looking at zombies roaming from Serangoon Road to Tank Road...'

To our Malaysian Hindus, appreciate what we have. We may encounter some minor problems from time to time but everything can be resolved. There is no need to vent our anger by asking the Indian Government to severe all trade ties with Malaysia or things like that...

Dari Tenang Terpaksa Ke Merlimau Pula - Hasrat SPR Tak Tercapai

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 09:36 AM PST

Namun, pilihan raya kecil sepanjang tempoh selepas Mac 2008 hingga sekarang bukan kali pertama negara menyaksikan pilihan raya kecil yang banyak jumlahnya.

Fakta:

Jumlah Pengundi: 10,471
Peratusan Kaum: M:64.69% C:21.11% I:14.16% L:0.04%

Don't Take Cyberspace for Granted!

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 07:33 AM PST

Whilst IT has broken down geographical and cultural barriers, it has also enabled ordinary citizens like you and me to keep an eye on what is happening locally and internationally. Advances in telecommunications such as text messaging, social networking and the Internet have allowed many to share ideas, hopes and even to unite many in their political aspirations. The 2008 GE bears testimony to the power of cyberspace but alas, the times, they are a-changing and as the next GE looms round the corner, we cannot take cyberspace for granted.

In the last decade, countries such as Philippines (2001), Ukraine (2004) and Lebanon (2005) organized demonstrations via text messages/emails/twitter in their respective countries. Note that it was only in democracies that communications objectives achieved their objectives. Countries such as Columbia, Myanmar, Zimbabwe and Iran that used cell phones, Facebook and Twitter for their revolutions/protests etc. merely managed to embarrass the government but failed to remove it from power.

In other words, Opposition parties had better start cracking with regards to their strategies and election machinery and not think that cyberspace and netizens can still weave their wands for the same 2008 tsunami. Whilst they may have reaped some advantages in the last GE, one thing for sure is that cyberspace is certainly a very complicated society. One can never replace human wisdom by the digital world/space.

Since 2008, while net usage may have increased due to greater broadband penetration, we have to bear in mind that this may have changed over time. Netizens may be using cyberspace differently and for their own ambitions/appetites such as on pop culture, social networking, marketing and other reasons than that of advancing their own political philosophy which may even be absent/deficient!

The period before and after the 2008 GE saw many research studies being carried out on the impact of IT on the democratic system. In fact, I had a research proposal on the same topic but never saw it through as my father passed away just before the deadline. What I realize of late is that many may have forgotten that modern communication is a neutral place. Whilst we may have the freedom to use these avenues for our own devices, this freedom may not be promoting other forms of freedoms. It is the person who gives meaning to the message so how a message is formulated may not achieve the desired effect. Each of us interpret messages according to our frame of experience, past experiences, expectations and many other factors. Thus, for the next couple of months, the Opposition had better work hard to convey the right messages to increase voter confidence in their respective parties!

Theoretically speaking, use of the net may expose netizens to the harsh realities of the world they live in such as the increasing cases of corruption, leakages, injustice etc. and at the same time, provide avenues for them to request for change.

But is there any guarantee that all or many will react to the advantage of the Opposition after reading exposes? Granted that some may vote for change to put to an end authoritarianism or corruption but how can we guarantee that communication of messages via the net can elicit the reaction that is desired?

Exposes may create negative reactions such as anger, frustration, rationalization, hope and so on. While the messages are sent, there is the certainty that it will reach a particular target audience but the numbers can never be definite, neither can the reactions. The Net is a very mysterious place. While it may make it easier for those of us with similar political inclinations to hob nob, and to engage with others with similar beliefs, there is no guarantee that the content can persuade them to change their minds to voting a particular way for the collective good of the nation.

That is why the same government has been voted back over and over again for the past few decades even though many are aware why this should not be the case. We read outrage comments here and there about this. Such trends point at a very alarming fact.

There has to be a change in the way we reach out to the citizens of the country to elicit change. To use known and old methods is a sure way of sabotaging the journey to Putrajaya which at the moment, sounds like a pipe dream to me.

Many do not realize that the status quo is working very hard to recapture lost ground. They have at their disposal experts and consultants to boost their public image, prepare persuasive speeches, launch public relations blitz or even to manipulate the topic of discussion for the nation. They started their election campaign the minute the 2008 GE was over. The strategies, plans, blueprints were rolled into action after serious thought, discussion and debate. What about the Opposition? Complacency, disunity and to a certain extent, foolishness in the way some messages/policies were communicated. I have said it many times and am saying again - Pakatan Rakyat must really get together to plan. Enough small talk, pipe dreams and failed visions. Time to shape up and really deliver before the next GE!

The rakyat will not just accept lock, stock and barrel messages about how we need to vote for change or how Pakatan wants this or that, especially if Pakatan Rakyat cannot pakat amongst themselves.

The Opposition must realize that the internet may have changed the world - but the truth is - that was in the past. Currently, it is the world that is changing the internet. Net usage even in Malaysia, has been changing. A look at various online portals can show you that many sites are trying to present their messages differently via different templates, writing styles, focus etc. but the fact remains that responses to these have been slowly but gradually dwindling. Not a good sign at all.

An overdose of articles with political slant can be too much to bear for some. I have noted before that political fatigue is in the air. People are tired of the nonsense that filled air space in the last six months and the fact remains that Opposition leaders are still not pulling up their socks. A surfeit of hammering personalities or the same issues over and over by the same personalities can actually be an overkill working to their own disadvantage. I am not sure if some are still floating away in their ivory tower with no inkling as to how the rest of the political landscape may have changed. Surely messages can be communicated differently. But are they even attempting to do that or are they contented to replay the same overused worn-out tunes that irritate our ears?

While there may be achievements in some areas, huge cracks and chasms seem to be driving parties apart from within and even in the wider society. Apathy, indifference and silence is on the increase. This must be arrested. Something must be done.

We cannot sing the same tune. There are just far too many factors at work to confidently predict or even hope that cyberspace can help bolster the position of the Opposition in the next elections. Suffice to say that it will certainly vary according to the motivation and agenda of those who seek to use them for their own devices.

Honestly, there has been so much talk of the imminent elections. The question burning in my heart is whether or not the Opposition parties have rolled their machinery, manifesto and shortlisted their potential candidates. They must reinvent themselves and communicate differently to change minds/attitudes/behavior and empower others to moot for change.

They had better start cracking or crack when the crunch comes!

"Fitnah" Dan "Lucah" Sudah Menjadi Darah Daging Blogger ProUMNO

Blogger Umno mula fitnah calon PAS

-harakahdaily

Hadapi blogger PEMFITNAH pro-Umno: Seru adakan solat hajat, dedah indentiti mereka setiap hari di alam siber

Koordinator Majlis Makan Malam Blogger bersama Menteri Besar, Tuan Guru Dato' Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat pada 15 Januari lalu, Tarmizi Mohd Jam menyeru semua ahli-ahli PAS, dan umat Islam dalam Pakatan Rakyat mengadakan solat hajat bagi dijauhkan daripada sebarang fitnah jahat para blogger PEMFITNAH pro-Umno yang bergentayangan di alam siber.

Seorang blogger PEMFITNAH pro-Umn, PAPAGOMO, antaranya kini sedang ligat memutarkan fitnah kononnya pertemuan blogger bersama Tuan Guru Nik Aziz Sabtu lalu, setiap blogger diberi RM500, laptop, broadband dan telefon mudah alih jenama Blackberry.

-sanggahtoksago

[Bergambar] Buaya Tembaga Ditangkap

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 05:20 AM PST

From Science Fiction to Battlefield Reality: Invisible Tanks, Planes and Armor Could Hit Battlefields in 5 Years

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 05:00 AM PST

In BAE Systems "eCamouflage" concept, images are projected on the hull of a combat vehicle that change in concert with the environment -- making the vehicle invisible.
(FOX News) Invisible tanks -- and maybe invisible soldiers -- may soon be charging onto battlefields.

A British weapons manufacturer is making good on the promise of Wonder Woman's invisible jet, describing an "eCamouflage" system that uses electronic ink to disguise combat vehicles by projecting videos of the countryside onto them -- electronic squid ink of a sort.

Using highly sophisticated electronic sensors attached to a vehicle's hull, BAE Systems plans to project images of the surrounding environment back onto the outside of the vehicle -- enabling it to merge into the landscape and evade attack, explained London paper The Telegraph.

Unlike conventional forms of camouflage, the images on the hull would change in concert with the changing environment, always insuring that the vehicle remains disguised.

BAE Systems is working with an unnamed Swedish company that makes a technology similar to the e-ink screens in digital book readers like the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader, explained Mike Sweeney, head of external communications for the company.

E-ink screens, as any e-book reader can attest, are both slow to refresh and black and white -- two clear obstacles to this technology. BAE has solved those problems, Sweeney told FoxNews.com.

"The guys in Sweden, together with some other companies we've been looking at, have the answer to that question," he said. BAE is starting with tanks, such as the CV90 (or Combat Vehicle 90, the Swedish equivalent of the Bradley tank) on which the first tests will be conducted. But the technology won't be limited to them, Sweeney said.

"We're also working on it for aircraft," he told FoxNews.com.

This isn't the first time the technology has been discussed. FoxNews.com wrote about invisible tanks in 2007, when they were merely a concept. And BAE isn't alone in its quest to make things vanish. Several companies have been working on similar technologies, all based on the same approach, as Sweeney was quick to note: They all use "a camera to capture the scene on the other side of the vehicle, then project that image on the other side of the vehicle so that it blends into the environment."

But BAE plans to make it happen, intending to test in Sweden at the end of the month a technology it calls "adaptive signature." And the next stage, Sweeney explained, will be transparent battle armor for soldiers.

The concept was developed as part of the Future Protected Vehicle program, which BAE's scientists believe will transform the way in which future conflicts will be fought.

A spokesman for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) -- the U.S. Department of Defense's research and development wing -- told FoxNews.com on Tuesday that a similar program that utilized "negative index materials" was scuttled in 2009 due to unviable research. Wrong on Rauf by Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 04:46 AM PST

Imam Feisal Rauf, the cleric behind the provocative Ground Zero Mosque (GZM) project, as one critic put it, "is no moderate. He presents himself as a peacemaking Islamic Gandhi, but he is in fact an apologist for the terrorist outfit Hamas, which he refuses even to identify as a terrorist organization."

You might be forgiven for thinking that came from Sarah Palin. If you've been reading NRO lately, you saw published here on Monday "Palin Libels Rauf," an essay by Henry Payne. Payne accuses the former Alaska governor of "libel" — his word — because she described Imam Rauf as a Hamas apologist who refused to identify that terrorist organization as a terrorist organization. But the quoted words were written by the editors of National Review. On August 4, 2010, as controversy raged over the GZM, NRO published an editorial describing Rauf as a wolf in sheep's clothing. Based on a number of disturbing facts that have not to this day been refuted, the editorial ("Not at Ground Zero") portrayed the imam as a faux moderate collaborating with Muslim Brotherhood front groups to build a huge mosque and Islamic center on what the editors described as "the gravesite of 3,000 Americans who died at the hands of Islamic radicals" — a prospect the editors quite rightly called "unseemly."

Now, I'm all for a good debate. That's what NRO is here for. But a debate is a discussion in which adversaries actually address their points of disagreement. Payne doesn't address any of the troubling matters that have been raised about Rauf, not only by NR's editors and Sarah Palin, but by many, many others. Allowed to exploit NR's megaphone, he treats our readers to a mendacious puff piece, leveling the weighty charge of libel while whitewashing the rich underlying basis for regarding Rauf as an apologist for Islamist terrorists in general, and for Hamas in particular.

According to Mr. Payne, Governor Palin "has spread libel herself about the Ground Zero Mosque imam, Feisal Rauf," by claiming that "Rauf refuses to recognize that Hamas is a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of our ally, Israel."

Libel, of course, is a legally actionable defamation, entitling the wronged party to sue for money damages against the alleged slanderer. That's serious business. In fact, to conclude that a public figure like Rauf has been libeled is to maintain that the purported slanderer made her baseless accusation either knowing it was untrue or in reckless disregard of its falsity.

Why does Payne claim Palin is guilty of libel? Because recently — as recently, in fact, as a radio appearance in Detroit last week — Rauf has taken to asserting that "Hamas is a terrorist organization. They have committed terrorist acts." So one might ask Mr. Payne, "You mean to tell me Rauf didn't refuse to call Hamas a terrorist organization? Are you saying that Palin knew Rauf had called Hamas a terrorist organization yet publicly claimed that he refused to do so?"

Don't hold your breath waiting for Payne's answers. They're sure not in his essay, which is just as cavalier about flinging libel accusations as he baselessly accuses Palin of being when it comes to Rauf. Not to mince words, the essay is an embarrassment. Its speciousness is betrayed in the first few lines. There, he acknowledges that Palin's remarks were made "on her Facebook page last year" — that is, many months before Rauf repackaged himself as the scourge (sort of) of Hamas.

Was Payne just singling out the controversial former governor and potential presidential candidate in order to draw attention to himself? Was she alone in taking Rauf to task over Hamas? Judge for yourself. Here is what NR's editors said last year about why they considered Rauf "in fact an apologist for the terrorist outfit Hamas, which he refuses even to identify as a terrorist organization":

Nor is Rauf exactly full-throated in his rejection of terrorism, offering only this: "The issue of terrorism is a very complex question." While he cannot quite bring himself to blame the terrorists for being terrorists, he finds it easy to blame the United States for being a victim of terrorism: "I wouldn't say that the United States deserved what happened, but the United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened."

In my NRO columns, Corner posts, and public statements during the summer of 2010 — including an August 28 column called "Why They Can't Condemn Hamas" — I several times recounted that Rauf could not bring himself to admit that Hamas is a terrorist organization, and that he had contended the United States was more guilty of wanton murder than al-Qaeda.

Moreover, in a widely cited Corner post on August 9, 2010, NR associate editor Robert VerBruggen reported that "NRO has obtained yet another interview in which Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the leading figure behind the Cordoba House (the 'Ground Zero mosque'), explains away terrorism. 'They feel the need to conflagrate,' he says of Muslims who feel they've been 'humiliated' and 'ignored.'" VerBruggen concluded that as the GZM "project's supporters press on in the face of overwhelming public outcry, and as Rauf's beliefs come increasingly into the light, arguments that the community center and mosque are meant as anything but a finger in the eye of America become less believable." Not leaving it at that, NR later published a lengthy study, "The Two Faces of Feisal Rauf," by Ibn Warraq, who analyzed Rauf's "reluctance to call Hamas a terrorist organization," as well as Rauf's work with Hamas sympathizers, from the perspective of a renowned scholar of Islam who had read actually Rauf's scholarship.

We at NR were far from alone. Here, from his weekly column on August 17, 2010, is the Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens on Imam Rauf: "[A] man who claims to condemn all forms of terrorism yet refuses to call Hamas a terrorist group is not a moderate by American standards, which happen to be the relevant ones when you're trying to build a mosque two blocks from Ground Zero."

Anti-Muslim bias now the social norm: UK Minister

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 04:38 AM PST

Source_MInsider:Anti-Muslim bias now the social norm: Minister

Prejudice against Muslims has "passed the dinner-table test" and become socially acceptable in Britain, the Conservative Party's chairwoman will say today.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, the Pakistan-born minister without portfolio, will say in a speech at the University of Leicester that dividing Muslims into "moderate" and "extremist" fuels intolerance, according to prepared remarks published in the Daily Telegraph.

"It's not a big leap of imagination to predict where the talk of 'moderate' Muslims leads; in the factory, where they've just hired a Muslim worker, the boss says to his employees: 'Not to worry, he's only fairly Muslim'," the first Muslim woman in a British Cabinet will say.

"In the school, the kids say: 'The family next door are Muslim but they're not too bad'.

"And in the road, as a woman walks past wearing a burka, the passers-by think: 'That woman's either oppressed or is making a political statement'."

There are 2.9 million Muslims in Britain, almost 5 per cent of the population, according to an estimate last year by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

Britain has regularly been a focus of Islamist militant plots. In the worst attack in the country, suicide bombers killed 52 people on the London transport network in July 2005.

"Those who commit criminal acts of terrorism in our country need to be dealt with not just by the full force of the law," Warsi was due to say.

"They also should face social rejection and alienation across society and their acts must not be used as an opportunity to tar all Muslims."

Warsi's comments follow those made by Prime Minister David Cameron in his New Year message when he said Britain still faced a serious threat from international terrorism.

"We must ask ourselves as a country how we are allowing the radicalisation and poisoning of the minds of some young British Muslims who then contemplate and sometimes carry out acts of sickening barbarity," Cameron said. – Reuters

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 19 — Confidence in the energy, expertise and entrepreneurship of Penang's human talent made it the top state for capital investments last year with RM12.2 billion invested, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today.

This figure represents a 465 per cent increase from 2009 and made up more than a quarter of Malaysia's total investments of RM47.2 billion, according to figures released by the Malaysian International Development Agency (Mida) yesterday.
The DAP secretary-general claimed that with the best financial performance, the best state in clean governance, the best green practices and as "the newly-crowned champion amongst all states in attracting investments... Penangites can now proudly say, 'Penang Leads!'."
He credited Penang's success to the hard work of the state's 1.6 million residents, together with that of the state government as well as federal government agencies such as Mida and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
Lim said this was the first time Penang had led other states in investments and was the highest figure ever achieved by the state, totalling 26 per cent of total investments in the country.
He said the success affirms the state administration's strategy of promoting Penang based on the availability of skilled workers, efficient supply chain management, reliability as a logistics and communications hub, strong protection for intellectual property, good governance, building creativity and innovation in science and technology, and George Town as a liveable and intelligent city.
Yesterday, Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed announced a 45 per cent increase in Malaysia's investment performance from RM32.6 billion in 2009 to RM47.2 billion in 2010.
