Things You Might Have Learnt

...if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.

... just when I get my room the way I like it, Mom makes me clean it up.

... children and grandparents are natural allies.

... even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

... silent company is often more healing than words of advice.

... if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if you focus on your family, the needs of others, your work, meeting new people, and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.

... motel mattresses are better on the side away from the phone.

... regardless of your relationship with your parents, you miss them terribly after they die.

... you can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.

... the greater a person's sense of guilt, the greater his need to cast blame on others.

... life sometimes gives you a second chance.

... it pays to believe in miracles. And to tell the truth, I've seen several.

... you shouldn't go through life with a catchers mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.

... brushing my child's hair is one of life's great pleasures.

... wherever I go, the worlds worst drivers have followed me there.

... singing "Amazing Grace" can lift my spirits for hours.

... you can make someone's day by simply sending them a little card.

... if you want to cheer yourself up, you should try cheering someone else up.

... when I wave to people in the country, they stop what they are doing and wave back.

... although it's hard to admit, I'm secretly glad my parents are strict with me.

... you can tell a lot about a man by the way he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

... whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually make the right decision.

... if you want to do something positive for your children, try to improve your marriage.

... making a living is not the same thing as making a life.

... everyone can use a prayer.

... I like my teacher because she cries when we sing "Silent Night".

... there are people who love you dearly but just don't know how to show it.

... every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

... I still have a lot to learn.

Inilah Top 7 Keajaiban Dalam Islam

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 09:28 AM PDT

Kisahnya, Jabir bin Abdillah-radhiyallahu 'anhu- bertutur,

[HR. Al-Bukhoriy dalam Sohih-nya (3390), dan At-Tirmidziy dalam Sunan-nya (505)]

3 Untaian Salam Batu Aneh

Lalu meninggallah Bisyr bin Al-Baro' bin MA'rur Al-Ansoriy.

Kerana Nabi -Soallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam- tidaklah pernah berbicara mengikut hawa nafsunya, bahkan beliau berbicara sesuai tuntunan wahyu dari Allah Yang Mengetahui segala perkara ghaib.

Rasulullah -Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam- bersabda, "Kalian akan memerangi orang-orang Yahudi sehingga seorang diantara mereka bersembunyi di balik batu. Maka batu itu berkata, "Wahai hamba Allah, Inilah si Yahudi di belakangku, maka bunuhlah ia". [HR.

Najib's so-called 1Malaysia: Bibles released but 'censored' with serial no

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 08:16 AM PDT

Catholic bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing has denounced the two conditions imposed by the Home Ministry for the release of detained consignments of 'Al-Kitab' as "crass forms of censorship redolent of the communist era". The two conditions were that each copy should carry a serial number and should be stamped 'For Christians Only'.

bishop paul tanThe president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference, speaking to Malaysiakini in his capacity as titular head of the Malacca-Johor diocese, said the news of the government's release yesterday of the detained consignment was "welcome but the two conditions are plainly unacceptable and smack of crass forms of censorship redolent of the communist era when reading material was the monopoly of the reigning oligarchy".

Silicone, Don't Leave Home Without It!

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 07:17 AM PDT

Silicone, It just might save your life someday, especially if you've got them in your boobs and a snake happens to comes along and tries to get frisky with your boobs.
'Israeli model Orit Fox was attempting to lick a snake (lick a snake? I don't even want to ask why!) ...  during a publicity stunt for radio DJ Shmulik Tayar when the lucky serpent, presumably aroused, lunged forward and bit Fox's fake breast, sending witnesses into a frenzy.

Fox, who is rumored to have the largest bosom in all of Israel, was hurried to a hospital outside Jerusalem where she received a tetanus shot (only a tetanus shot? What about all that leaking silicon?) and was later discharged.

As for the snake, puckering up with a supermodel proved to be the kiss of death. The creature succumbed to silicone poisoning shortly after the incident. (well, at least the perverted little critter died happy ... LOL!)'
The moral of the story is silicone in your boobs can be a life saver, who knows a snake might just one day try to ... urrrmmm ... bite your boobs! LOL! At least you won't have to use any le creuset cookware to smack it on the head!

But seriously, if you asked me, I think the poor snake most likely died from fright and shock after looking at that hideous woman! Hahahah!

[Video] Mangsa Fitnah Khalwat Buat Laporan Polis

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 07:56 AM PDT

-buletinonline

World Day Against Cyber Censorship

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 07:13 AM PDT

Launched by Reporters Without Borders in 2008, World Day Against Cyber-Censorship (on 12 March 2011) is intended to rally everyone in support of a single Internet without restrictions and accessible to all.

The fight for online freedom of expression is more essential than ever. By creating new spaces for exchanging ideas and information, the Internet is a force for freedom. In countries where the traditional media are controlled by the government, the only independent news and information are to be found on the Internet, which has become a forum for discussion and a refuge for those who want to express their views freely.

However, more and more governments have realised this and are reacting by trying to control the Internet. Never have so many countries been affected by some form of online censorship, whether arrests or harassment of netizens, online surveillance, website blocking or the adoption of repressive Internet laws. Netizens are being targeted by government reprisals. Around 117 of them are currently detained for expressing their views freely online, mainly in China, Iran and Vietnam.

World Day Against Cyber-Censorship pays tribute to them and their fight for Internet freedom. Reporters Without Borders will mark the occasion by issuing its latest list of "Enemies of the Internet."

Abused & Afraid - 2

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 06:44 AM PDT

When I first met Shidah during my clinic duty some time in December last year, her case wasn't referred to me by SN or the doctor because she had been a patient there for more than 2 years. Usually SN would only refer new cases, or, even if they were old cases, SN would only refer the ones she knew were problematic, especially single mothers with financial constraints.

In Shidah's case, she didn't have any children, and neither did she mention anything to SN about her problems at home.

It was only when she was given counselling by the pharmacist on her antiretroviral that she somehow mentioned about being beaten up by her husband at home. The pharmacist immediately told her to see me as we were sharing the same room.

During that meet, I gave her not only my number, but also the number of a friend of mine in Perak Women for Women (PWW). PWW handles quite a lot of these cases so they should know better what to do.

Shidah never called. And the one time that I called her, she said she was okay.

I did get missed calls from her once, but when I returned call, nobody answered. I figured maybe she didn't dare answer because her husband was around when I returned call.

2 days ago Shidah called. She said she was beaten up again and she wanted to see me at the hospital on Wednesday (today).

I wasn't on clinic duty today but since the only chance for me to meet Shidah is at the hospital, I decided to go. Coincidentally, a trainee volunteer who happened to be free, asked if I was on clinic duty as she'd like to join. Although we don't usually handle domestic violence cases, I figured it would be good exposure for her, so yep, I told her to join me at the clinic to meet Shidah.

Shidah asked to meet up at 10 am, and so although I got to the hospital 15 minutes early, I didn't dare call as I was afraid she may still be with her husband. I waited until about 10.10 am before I called. Shidah was already at the hospital, but was still waiting to get her blood test done. I told her I'd wait in the same room where we spoke the last time.

The moment she saw me, she held and kissed my hands. She didn't look like someone who had been abused, which was probably why earlier on SN or the doctor at the HIV clinic never knew about her problems.

I asked her how bad she was beaten up this time. She showed me some marks below her knee. It seems Shidah couldn't take it any longer and asked her husband to allow her to go back to her home country. That got the husband mad and he ended up hitting her again. However I think this time he used his hands to hit her, the marks didn't look too bad. Shidah had shown me photos of her bruises when she was beaten up earlier. The husband must have used some hard objects to hit her with back then…

IMAG0203 IMAG0207

However, earlier on Shidah never went to get any medical report. She didn't have anyone here she could depend on and she didn't know who to talk to or where to go. Worse, her husband held her passport, and so she didn't even dare lodge a police report although her own mother-in-law advised her to do so.

Apparently, of late, Shidah doesn't even have access to her handphone. She only gets to hold the phone when she goes to the hospital. Her husband would send her to the hospital and she'd use the phone to call her husband to fetch her once she's done.

So how did she manage to call me on Monday?

"Saya curi talipon. Lepas tu saya delete nombor kakak."

Oh dear. So now I can no longer call that number either as her husband may suspect something.

Anyway, I tried to get the friend from PWW to join me at the hospital to meet and talk to Shidah, but the friend already had an earlier appointment, to bring another lady in distress to the legal aid bureau. She however did advise me to tell Shidah to lodge a police report. However, she did also warn me that being a foreigner, Shidah may not be covered by the Domestic Violence Act.

I asked the doctor at the HIV clinic, she advised me to bring her to the pondok polis at the hospital, after which she should get a medical report from a doctor at the emergency department.

I then explained the situation to Shidah. However, for someone who had never handled such cases before, I couldn't give a guarantee to Shidah she'd be safe from her husband. I 've heard of a case where after lodging a report about her husband abusing her, a lady was sent back home and the husband was only "advised" not to beat up the wife any more. As a result, the situation turned worse.

Shidah was afraid her husband would beat her up even more if he finds out she went to lodge a police report. And being a foreigner who doesn't have access to her own passport, it was worse still. If she had access to her passport, all I had to do was to get help to finance her ticket to go back home. Without her passport, she'd probably be detained. The only document Shidah has with her is her kad nikah, and so if she gets caught, the authorities will probably get hold of her husband and "return" her back to him.

We were ready to accompany her today if Shidah decided to lodge a police report but in the end Shidah decided against it. She wasn't ready. We'd have to plan something before her next hospital appointment which is in 2 month time. I asked if she was willing to wait that long.

"Terpaksalah, kak."

But how was I supposed to contact her if her husband controls the phone?

"Saya ada sorok talipon lain. Suami saya tak tau. Simcard saya simpan tempat lain."

Great, at least there's a way for me to contact her. She gave me the phone number and told me the best time to call. However, I told her to make sure the phone is only on when her husband is not around. And I also told her to immediately call me if things get worse, or if she finally decides to lodge the police report before the next hospital appointment.

Tomorrow I'll be meeting up with the friend from PWW to discuss the best possible cause of action. Somebody advised me to get confirmation from the embassy about Shidah's citizenship before proceeding with the police report.

Whatever it is, we need to use the right strategy to make sure Shidah doesn't end up on the losing end. We don't want the husband to twist and turn stories to his advantage…

Logi Nuklear: Najib Dan Muhyiddin Patut Tanya Mahathir

Lebih Baik Tidak Bina Loji Kuasa Nuklear - Dr M

Bekas Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad mengulangi pendiriannya bahawa Malaysia tidak perlu memiliki sebuah loji tenaga nuklear. -illustrasi malaysiakini

"Sebaik saja dihidupkan, ia menjadi radioaktif.

Naiktaraf Tandas RM199 Ribu? Siapa Sudah Songlap?

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 05:50 AM PDT

Tandas awam bertaraf 'banglo' dakwa DAP

Nilai sebenar jelasnya, sekira mengikut harga pasaran hanyalah sekitar RM9,000 sahaja. -mk

Betul-betul kerja gila. Hal begini jelas pun SPRM dan PAC tak siasat. Semata-mata kerana negeri Melaka ditadbirkan oleh BN.

Segamat Dilanda Banjir Semula

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 04:30 AM PDT

Kejadian lalu berulang kembali

-SH

I Still Can't Believe It!

Malaysiakini reported HERE:

The minister in charge of nuclear power, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui, has deftly refused to state the government's stand on atomic energy for power generation despite the matter being directly under his purview.

Chin refused to affirm or deny the government's nuclear ambitions in the face of a possible atomic reactor meltdown in earthquake devastated Japan.

Cornered by reporters after a launch of a lithium-ion battery-powered motorcycle at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur this morning, Chin (left) said "no comment" several times when asked if the government was planning to forge ahead with its nuclear power plant plan.

He also muddled up the names of the agencies in the three-minute press conference, frequently referring to the Nuclear Power Corporation, an agency under the Prime Minister's Department,
as 'Nuclear Development Agency'.

Malaysia plans to build two 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plants by 2022. This was announced by Chin in December last year.

However, fears over the safety of nuclear plants have arisen with Japan, a major operator of such plants for electricity generation, being threatened with a meltdown at its stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant after reactors failed to cool down following last Friday's 9.0 earthquake in the Miyagi prefecture.

The transcript of Chin's press conference follows:

Reporter: What is the government's position on nuclear reactors? Are we proceeding with them?

Chin: Up to this stage, I think the best thing is for you guys to contact the Malaysian Nuclear Agency (MNA).

They have got all the reports from International Atomic Energy Agency and the IAEA doesn't contact (the ministry) because the focal point for our country is the MNA. So, best you get the latest from them.

What about Malaysia? Will we be proceeding with the two plants?

I think this one is something that we will have to look at because the (Nuclear Power Corporation) will have to come up with the paper, a report, and submit to the government for the government to evaluate the situation.

As to whether we will continue or not, that is not for me to say but for the cabinet to decide.

So, at the moment, does it mean that it's on?

Well, the government has not made any other decision, so I think we have to wait for the report to be presented by the (Nuclear Power Corporation) under the JPM (PM's Department), so...

So it's on track then?

What do you mean?

As in, are we in the tendering process, or is it halted...?

I have no comment on that, whether it is halted or anything like that. I will not comment on that.

Then what about the gag order on the nuclear agency? They were told that the minister has instructed them not to talk to the media.

I don't know. I have no knowledge of that.

So, have we finalised the plan? What is the time line?

We have already announced that the time frame is by 2021.

Will the time frame be delayed?

I cannot answer you at this juncture.

Has the decision been made whether to go ahead?

I do not know, this depends on the paper (to be) presented to cabinet.

When will the paper be presented?

I don't know, you have to ask them. That is why I said the best is, they are the focal point, so ask them, lah.
If a Minister does not know, who will know??? Who is the one in charge? Who are the ReAL decision makers?

I am just so horrified, appalled and disgusted that many, especially those in seats of power are NOT aware of/bothered by/concerned etc etc about the dangers of nuclear plants.

My heart goes out to Japan - her citizens and all who are affected by the recent earthquake/tsunami/nuclear reactor issues. How many are at risk? Too many and all who matter.

But do WE matter?

What is more important?

LIVES of PROJECTS?

A friend just called me an hour ago to say that her aunt, uncle and nephew perished in the earthquake. She is too distraught to do anything or eat anything. :-(

BBC News said:

It appears that for the first time, the containment system around one of the Fukushima Daiichi reactors has been breached.

Officials have referred to a possible crack in the suppression chamber of reactor 2 - a large doughnut-shaped structure, also known as the torus, below the reactor housing.

That would allow steam, containing radioactive substances, to escape continuously.

This is the most likely source of the high radioactivity readings seen near the site in the middle of Tuesday.

We're absolutely not looking at another Chernobyl"

End Quote Malcolm Sperrin Royal Berkshire Hospital

Under normal circumstances, the suppression chamber stores a large volume of water that can be used to condense steam produced in the reactor.

The industry newsletter World Nuclear News reports that a "loud noise" came from the reactor chamber, and that "the pressure... was seen to decrease from three atmospheres to one atmosphere after the noise, suggesting possible damage".

This pressure drop is consistent with the chamber cracking and releasing steam.

Once de-pressurised, material would probably be ejected at a slower rate. This is consistent with the swift fall in readings taken around the plant later in the day.

Another possible source was a fire and explosion in the building housing reactor 4.

At the time of the earthquake, reactors 4, 5 and 6 were shut down for planned maintenance.

During this period, fuel rods are withdrawn from the reactor and stored in a pool - looking like a big swimming pool - in the upper level of the reactor building, outside the containment vessel.

The water keeps them cool, and protects workers below from radiation.

Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

touchpad Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

So I got to see the HP TouchPad in action sometime back in February, and actually played with it for all of 30 seconds before the lady doing the demo realized that I had my grubby hands on it and politely pulled it away. From my brief time with the device, and the very extensive controlled demos by the presenters – here are my initial thoughts on what I really liked about the TouchPad which HP has just announced will be launched in June.

I have never been a big fan of the old Palm Pre phones. Always felt that the phones were much too small, especially when trying to handle all the touch gestures the palm interface demanded in order to use the phone. The new Pre 3 is a step in the right direction with decent 3.6 inch display…but the TouchPad however – that's a different ballgame all-together.

So why on earth would you ever consider holding out for an iPad 2? Here's a few reasons why:

1. You want grouped multi-tasking

Because all smartphones these days handle multi-tasking pretty decently, but handling anything more than a few apps is often a clunky user experience.
WebOS on the other hand, groups together related apps running in the background.

How is this useful?

On other platforms multi tasking is focused on helping you switch between apps quickly, not so much between tasks.
Some tasks require you to switch between related apps, For example – to calculate expenses you may want to switch between a calculator, notepad, and email app.
On WebOS, because apps are grouped together, you can quickly switch between groups of related apps all at once without hunting around.

Here's a video which shows you this feature or 'stacks' as Palm people call it (Tip: Forward to halfway through the video to see most of the action)

2. You want a wireless charging

touchstone Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

Because there's no more plugging in wires. Just place it on the dock, and it charges/syncs.

I don't think I need to say more.

3. You want an adjustable sized keyboard

palmkeyboard Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

Because not all fingers are the same size. For me, the keyboard is perhaps the most important aspect of any smart device (aside from touchscreen sensitivity), and perhaps one of the most difficult for manufacturers to get right. Making the on-screen keyboard adjustable really helps eliminate the compromise many keyboards make to get it to a one-size-fits all setup.

4. You don't want to launch apps

justtype Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

Because you want to just type and go.

A feature called 'Just Type/Quick Actions' in webOS 2.0 will allow you to do things in apps, without ever having to launch the app. Doing things like search, compose email, set alarms, create calendar appointments, Facebook status updates, send text messages, update your blog etc. from anywhere on your phone without having to open an app and wait for it to load.

How useful this turns out to be though, lies in the hands of developers who build need 'Quick Actions' plugins for this to take off.

5. You Want Decent Speakers

beats Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

Because the iPad 2 has mono speakers. (Why Apple, why?)

…while the TouchPad comes with HP Beats Audio and stereo speakers. This setup possibly makes it the best audio system you will get for ANY tablet.

6. You want unobtrusive push notifications

pushnotificatios Why You May Want to Wait for the HP TouchPad Before Buying an iPad 2

Because while the rest of the smartphone world (Palm/Android/BlackBerry) has figured out how to do unobtrusive push notifications, iOS is using the worst push notification system in the world. It's in your face, forces you to look at everything, and forces you to unlock the phone to dismiss the notification.

WebOS notifications on the touchpad however are unobtrusive, easily dismissible if you don't want to attend to it right away, and provides a useful preview to boot, and is very well thought through.

What could be improved on the TouchPad

  1. Really wished it would come with a rear camera. If you've ever used a tablet for annotation, or tried taking photos of text/maps for use on a tablet you'd realize how truly important this is. Hopefully we'll see this in the next iteration.
  2. Also, the very obvious hole they have is their distinct lack of apps. Their porting platform, the WebOS PDK has been around for about a year. On one hand you've got nice testimonials of companies porting over 9 games in 5 weeks. On the other hand, the reality of the matter is that they have REALLY struggled to get publishers on board, and even the very new Windows Phone 7 Platform which is still extremely raw, has gotten further ahead of the game.
  3. Things are moving really slow in terms of product development and launch. Bear in mind the iPad 2 will take some steam away from the TouchPad launch, and if Apple really shifts their launch cycle for the iPad to ship in time for Christmas, the TouchPad could get swallowed up by iPad 3.

I did talk to Steven MacArthur who's the SVP of Apps and Services in HP about how slow everything has been moving, but his response was that it was early days in this market and he could afford to go slowly for now saying it did not matter in the grand scheme of things and long term strategy – citing how Apple and Android beat up the smartphone incumbents within a short period of time.

Truth be told, I disagree with him on this one. The iPhone was a ridiculously revolutionary device when it launched. Android bridged the gap and opened up solid smartphone capabilities to a whole other range of manufacturers.

Palm's devices however are at best incrementally better than existing systems, still has its shortcomings, and they will not license out their OS. In short – the market will be much less forgiving. Given that the Pre and Pre 2 hasn't done spectacularly well so far, this should already be a warning flag. Also, the unofficial price point is touted to be at the USD$499 point for the 16GB Wifi version which makes it on par with iPad 2 pricing, so it does not look to have an advantage there either. Meanwhile I'm crossing my fingers that a 3G version will follow quickly.

Hands-on video

Here's a full hands-on which was demo'ed in Shanghai. It gives a great look at the new WebOS devices which were launched including the TouchPad.

Video courtesy of Lowyat.tv

Conclusion

All that aside. The TouchPad did seem like a really snappy device. Interface looked well designed and slick. More than anything it has bucketloads of potential especially when WebOS starts being integrated into ALL new HP computers starting from next year. The tablet future certainly looks interesting doesn't it?

Ramai Kahwin Warga Asing Di Songkhla

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 04:04 AM PDT

Oh, DNA (Datuk Najib Altantuya)

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 01:41 AM PDT

"Sampai sekarang timbul makna baru DNA, tapi saya tak nak sebut," katanya.

"Riuh satu negara demonstrasi sana-sini... Itu menghina mahkamah.. Dulu waktu kita demonstrasi isu rakyat, pemimpin Umno dari Rembau (Khairy Jamaluddin) kata beruk-beruk di jalanan.

"Sekarang siapa beruk dan monyet ni...oh DNA, DNA,"
katanya. -HD

Gempa Bumi Susulan 6.0 Skala Richter Landa Pantai Timur Honshu

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 12:44 AM PDT

- Bernama
