Penang free wifi, phase 2

Penang free wifi, phase 2

Penang free wifi, phase 2

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 11:24 AM PDT

You know, when the Penang government first announced the launch of the Penang Free Wifi service almost two years ago, I was a little sceptical that it would ever happen. Something for free? Come on.... But apparently, two years down the road, I'm told that there are already 750 free wifi hotspots scattered around the island and the mainland.

So that is why whenever I go into George Town, my mobile phone gets to detect a signal called "Penang Free Wifi" in many places. But I can be very forgetful. Embarrassingly forgetful. Although I had written about this service in the past, I had been wondering where it came from. The only thought that came into my mind was: "Is this a wifi service from the Penang Free School? Wah, their transmitter must be very powerful indeed!"

I'm better informed today. No, the wifi signal did not come from my Alma Mater. Yes, the wifi signal is the Penang Free Wifi service that the state government had said that they would launch. Unfortunately, it had been all too quiet. I hope Jeff Ooi & Company had not been waiting for buggers like me to publicise the service for them.

I saw on facebook that Lim Guan Eng had been asking his "facebook friends" to check out the free wifi locations on the REDtone homepage. I did, and it is indeed a long list.

You may say that I should be grateful for this service and I know that I should even if I haven't used it before, but I'm not. I'm disappointed with the lopsided attention given to its implementation. I actually did a count and I'm disappointed that out of the 750 wifi hotspots, there are only 209 on the mainland compared with 541 on the island. Say, the mainland is three times the size of the island. Still treating the mainland as the state's stepchild? I hope not.

That's why what I want to tell the state government is this: I know that you are investing RM8.5 million over the next five years for the second phase of this project to double the number of hotspots but since you are going ahead to launch it anyway, please give us mainlanders more consideration now than in the past. Okay? Can? Just tell me "yes" and we can move on....

Stop dancing to Anwar's tune!

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 10:27 AM PDT

Anwar is gaining political 'strength' (here) out of the sex video which links him. Why?

1. PM Najib has quashed at Nazri Aziz's earlier statement that the Datuk Trio would be protected under the Official Secret Act (OSA). So, Nazri is making himself looks very stupid, acting on his own and without the PM's consent.

2. Rumors that PM gave his 'full blessing' for Rahim Tamby Chik to expose the video and have a good preview to members of the media, is definitely wrong. Why should Najib do so? The rumors itself provide a morale booster to Anwar.

3. AG Gani Patail's rebuttal that RTC and Gang would be free from any kind of prosecution also adds strength to Anwar (here). As RTC was pinpointed to be the mastermind in the sex video, he can be charged as 'intruding' into someone's personal life, making a clip video out of it, in possession of illicit materials and showing it to the media. As to whether it was really Anwar who 'acted' in the scene, the 'actor' can sue those involved as planning a conspiracy against him.

4. Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein too wants a part in it (here). He plans to sue Anwar for accusing him and the police of planning the set up and for supporting RTC and Gang. And a tip off that he will employ TS Cecil Abraham of Zul Rafique for the job is already raising a lot of questions since Abraham 'is a good friend of Anwar'. Suing Anwar too would make the whole government looks like its leaders speak different tones about the issue. I hope bro Hisham will not sue Anwar as all that happened is already backfiring us. Anwar made such an allegation to provoke Hisham. The more we sue him the more political mileage Anwar gets.

So, I think the best way is for every BN leaders, media and bloggers to stop riding the issue. Just let the police conduct proper investigation while the AG office consider appropriate actions to settle it.

In other words, all should SHUT UP! Let Anwar do whatever he likes. Court cases and libel suits are nothing to him.

Its time to separate the men from the boys...

Video Seks: Siasat Juga Siapa Yang Seiras Tapi Tak Serupa Itu!

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 10:42 AM PDT

Siapa?

Percanggahan pegangan moral Eksay pasti menimbulkan pelbagai persoalan.

Publisiti murahan

Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) sering menunjukkan ketangkasan luar biasa dalam menyiasat kes- kes membabitkan pemimpin Pakatan Rakyat walaupun alasan mereka mencurigakan.

-mk

THIS WONDERFUL PRAYER WAS PASSED ON TO US SO WE ARE PASSING IT ON. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS!

Dear God, I just want to say THANK YOU,
Because this morning I woke up and knew where my children were.

Because this morning my home was still standing,
Because this morning I am not crying
Because my spouse, my child, my brother or sister and my parent do not need to be buried
or to be pulled out from underneath a pile of concrete,
Because this morning I was able to drink a glass of water,
Because this morning I was able to turn on the light,
Because this morning I was able to take a shower,
Because this morning I was not planning a funeral,

But most of all I thank you this morning because I still have life and a voice to cry out for the people of Japan .

Dear God, I cry out to you, the One that makes the impossible, possible,
The One that turns darkness in to light,
I cry out that You give those mothers strength,

That You give them peace that surpasses all understanding,
That You may open the streets so that help can come,
That You may provide doctors, nurses, food, water, and all that they need in a blink of an eye.

Please pass this on to your friends. Let us continue to pray for them and also to be thankful for what we have and where we are in our lives.

TAIB’S BALINGIAN IS THE EPICENTRE OF HIS LAND GRAB CORRUPTION – EXCLUSIVE EXPOSE !

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 03:02 AM PDT

Taib brings 'development' to his constituency in Balingian!
Taib Mahmud promised development, but has delivered disaster in his own constituency of Balingian.  Scores of  communities are at this moment reeling from the shock of the present wave of 'development devastation' in areas that were in many cases Reserve Forest lands.
Now, shockingly, our research into the companies behind the destruction shows that in every case the profits can be traced directly back to Taib, his immediate family or to key business cronies and nominees (people known to act as his regular proxy).
These pictures, taken during a tour of investigation just last week, resemble the aftermath of a tsunami – but it has been a tsunami of greed unleashed by one old man and his small army of cronies upon the people in his own backyard.  His own voters!
Everything for me – nothing for you

This was his land - he got nothing for it!
Taib has masked his land grabs by pretending he is benefiting the people through 'progress' and 'modernisation'.  He lectures them to 'be patient', while at the same time he impatiently tears out anything of worth from the lands where they have lived for generations.

On the spot researchers have confirmed to Sarawak Report that the only people who have been receiving compensation for the lands taken are the state-appointed headmen, who are now paid not to represent their longhouse folk, but to keep them compliant.

These individuals have been offered a pitiful RM 250 ringgit per acre for their communities' Native Customary Rights Lands - the rest of the people have received nothing for the loss of their traditional territories and livelihoods!  One 80 year old Iban has testified to his family having lived five generations on his land, clearing the trees and growing up fruit orchards, these were all swept away without compensation.  In one case the plantation company was narrowly prevented from bulldozing a longhouse into the ground.  Local people say they have lodged reports to the police, but that as ever such complaints are ignored.

Blantant exploitation - Empire Plantation offers a paltry RM 250 per acre to a local headman for his community's land. Also, while he is forced to 'relinquish all rights', Empire only 'tentatively' agree to pay up!
Needless to say RM 250 is a pitiful amount compared to the real worth of the wood and oil  palm concessions on these lands, which is demonstrated later in this article by the vast sums which have been paid to Taib family members by the public companies which acquired them.
Enrich my family and pay off my business partners in the name of 'development'!
Sarawak Report's investigations into the disposal of the lands in Taib's area of Balingian and Mukah have revealed a quite staggering level of graft.  Shoddy attempts have been made to conceal the amount of money made by family members out of most of these concessions, but we have been able to trace the links and provide damming evidence of Taib family corruption.

Some of the concessions handed out by Taib in his own constituency. Palmlyn and Golden Star-Ace went to brother Arip, Green Ace, Saradu, Miracle Harvest to sister Raziah, SLDB/Sarawak Plantation, Kub Sepadu to cousin Hamid Sepawi, Empire Plantations to son of Hamid Bugo (political crony) and Chiong family, Rinwood to the crony Hii family.... and much more

Lands taken by Arip Mahmud and also Taib himself through Mesti Bersatu
Just one example is the large chunk of Balingian, around 34,000 hectares, handed out in the early 2000s to Taib's closest sibling at that time,  the late Arip Mahmud.  We have identified 7 massive plots in the land registry, which were all handed to companies clearly managed out of the Lanco Plantation office, belonging to Arip.
Lanco Plantation Sdn Bhd is based at 458/459, Sublot 62, Padungan Road Kuching.  The Manager is Patrick Embol and the company's lawyer is Lim Jit Meng.  We have clear testimony that Hamni bid Juni

Jepun Nak Musnahkan Reaktor Fukushima, Malaysia Nak Bangunkan Loji Gebeng.

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 08:11 AM PDT

Pengarah utama Tepco Tsuneshisa Katumata (gambar) mengatakan reaktor 1-4 memang sepatutnya ditutup.

-BBC

Ulasan GB

Every Singaporean Son

Look at the National Service training program in Singapore, compare it to our National Service. Look at their standards in training, equipment, accommodation and food. Look at their quality of Instructors. Look at their evaluation techniques. Look at everything, after that you decide, whether our National Service is a waste of tax payers money, sheer waste of time, needless deaths of our young ones, what is the whole purpose of having it? You decide which of it is mediocre.

TOO OLD AND FORGETFUL? – TAIB FORGETS HIS OWN BUSINESSES!

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 06:02 AM PDT

Losing his memory and forgetting his businesses?

Taib Mahmud has been forced onto the defensive throughout the first first week of his election campaign, as he has fought to shake off allegations of landgrabs, corruption, nepotism and the siphoning out Sarawak's wealth into foreign banks, businesses and property companies.
His advisers had insisted that he face up and address these issues to restore his credibility with outraged voters.  A strategy was devised with a series of staged video interviews answering pre-prepared questions by friendly reporters (including one hired by a foreign PR company).  The edited answers were then put onto Taib's flock of new websites in an attempt to win back ground in the 'cyber-war'
Better to have kept silent?

Facing up to the criticism - or just digging in deeper?
However, the old boy is clearly uncomfortable in the unfamiliar role of answering 'tough' questions on subjects he would far rather ignore like deforestation, his own wealth and the problems of native land owners – and the result has been a series of calamitous mistakes!
In the latest clanger Taib once again tried to put to rest allegations that his children and family have benefited from his money and political patronage.  However, his extraordinary excuses raised suspicions of impending senility and forgetfulness:
"My children are well-educated, they have gone to do business outside.  I had to do business outside more than 30 years ago.  Simple reason is I don't want conflict of interest to haunt me all the time.  [if] I do business inside the country, people will say I use my influence to enrich myself, so we did it outside the country"
What the old man seems to have forgotten, but the rest of Sarawak will definitely have not, is that his family and in particular his own children, DO own huge amounts of business in Sarawak.  What's more, most of that business was 'privatised' from the State of Sarawak into the hands of those family concerns by Taib himself and these businesses mainly benefit from the huge government contracts Taib makes sure always come the way of his family businesses!
Starting with CMS and moving on to Titanium Management!

No business in Sarawak? - The old boy forgot about the largest firm in the state, CMS, which belongs to his own family!
The tame interviewer, brought all the way over from the UK, was not being paid to do follow-up questions, otherwise he would have asked "But what about CMS and Titanium Management?!".
Cahya Mata Sarawak is now Sarawak's largest company and a major player in Malaysia – involved in businesses ranging from building to banking.
So who are its largest shareholders?   They are, of course, the members of Taib's own immediate family.  In fact, according to the company's latest on-line Annual Report for 2009 the biggest shareholder of all is dead – it is Taib's own late wife Laila!  She owned a massive 11.23% of the company's shares worth RM 94 million.

"If I do business inside the country people will say I use my influence to enrich myself" - Taib obviously discounted his own wife and children from this principle.
The other top shareholders are his two sons Abu Bekir and Sulaiman, followed by his two daughters Jamilah and Hanifah, who jointly own the company Majaharta.  So what on earth did Taib mean when he claimed that he and his children have taken so much care to do business only abroad ?  And what fiction does he expect the voters to believe about his ex-wife being the top shareholder of the company?!
From the latest CMS Annual Report - The new DUN building, contracted from CMS
Taib 'privatised' business after business from the state into the hands of his own company CMS from the moment he took power.
Likewise, he privatised the crucial monopoly over shipping licences into the hands of another family company Achi Jaya (run by his brother and business partner Onn Mahmud).  These abuses of power have lain at the foundation of his family's wealth alongside all the money he has taken from businessmen looking for timber and plantation concessions.
Voters will therefore be left wondering whether Taib is now bordering on senile to forget such things as this when he proclaimed in his interview that "I had to do business outside" [the country].
Taib abuses his decision-making role to enrich CMS
Far from avoiding conflict of interest, readers need only glance at the on-line CMS Annual Report 2009 to gain an understanding of how Taib has indeed thoroughly exploited his various key positions as Chief Minister, Finance Minister and Resources and Planning Minister to make sure that state money pours into his own family company.

Conflict of Interest - another huge contract given by Taib to his family company, the Borneo Convention Centre
Taib had the cheek to entitle his on-line cyber-movie "Financial Transparency in Sarawak", but in fact all the key contracts are 'negotiated' behind closed doors and in secret.  Time and again this is because, as the CMS Annual Report 2009 clearly illustrates, Taib has ended up negotiating with himself!
In one year alone State mega-contracts handed to CMS have included the new State Parliament Building, worth RM 296.5 million; the new Borneo Convention Centre, worth RM 195 million; the new Sarawak Energy Head Quarters, worth RM 232 million and a bridge over the Batang Strap Waterway, worth RM 20 million.
How could Taib have forgotten all these when he claimed to the foreign newsman that he had so carefully avoided conflict of interest in Sarawak?!
Son is a top Sarawak businessman !
Until Taib decided to put up his son Abu Bekir for a seat at this coming State Election, he had always maintained that his oldest son was too interested in business to get into politics.  But where is this business conducted?
Keep open your copy of the on-line CMS Annual Report for 2009 to find out.  Abu Bekir may also have activities outside of Sarawak, but the extent of his interests within Sarawak are jaw-dropping.  Not only is he on the Board of Directors of CMS, but he has numerous other businesses, which all benefit from the patronage of Taib in his role of Chief Minister.
CMS 2009 Annual Report. Taib's son, Abu Bekir Taib, is a major Sarawak Businessman - so what does Taib mean that his children went to do business abroad to avoid being 'haunted' by accusations of conflict of interest?
Not only is Abu Bekir Deputy Group Chairman of CMS (the Chairman is his brother in law, sister Hanifah's husband), he is also Chairman and major shareholder of Sarawak Cable.  He is also the Director and major shareholder of the private company Titanium Management, a company that has caused outrage because of the vast contracts it received from Taib Mahmud soon after incorporation, without any appropriate track record.
Yet another mega-project handed to CMS in 2009
The biggest scandal was the state-funded contract to build 384 bridges for RM 551 million.  Not only did Titanium fail to deliver all the bridges, but it ran into a 76% cost over-run totalling RM 947.8 million, which Daddy Taib generously agreed the State should pay out on!
Land Grabs too
Titanium Management and its subsidiary companies have also been one of the main benefactors of the land-grabs carried out by Taib Mahmud's BN government.  Abu Bekir has recieved lands (many of them in Native Customary Land areas) totalling an area greater than Singapore, according to our researches of the land records.
The decisions to hand the land to Abu Bekir's companies were made behind doors and not through any form of transparent open tender and they were made by Taib Mahmud.  Little Abu Bekir was not forced to pay either for these lands, because he received them as 'Payment in Kind'.
So, what can the old man have been thinking, when he claimed there has been no conflict of interest with his family doing business in Sarawak?  Everyone in the whole state knows otherwise!
Hangers on, like Awang Tengah

Awang Tengah - Taib's favourite No 2 in Resources and Planning
Meanwhile, of course there is the continuing scandal of Taib's Plantation pay-offs to keep ministers and cronies supportive.  The latest conflict of interest involving political partners of Taib Mahmud to emerge from our research of the land records (which we have now placed online for all to see) is the vast holding he has handed to his favoured 2nd Minister in the State Planning and Resource Ministery, Awang Tengah.
Tengah, who has issued many stern statements concerning the right of the State Government to 'alienate' Native Customary Rights Lands in past weeks, has been the fortunate beneficiary of over 6,000 hectares of land in Balai Ringin.  The person registered as the recipient of the land in the land register is his known assistant, Awang Matusin Awang Drahman.
Awang Tengah's share of the action - half of the ownership goes to Naroden Majais
Locals in Balai Ringin have been contacting Sarawak Report asking desperately for help to protect these lands from the rapacious YB, so once again Taib's 'policies of development' are bringing misery and anger, not the prosperity he claims in his set piece interviews.
The shareholder of United Teamtrade Sdn Bhd, turns out again to be Awang's assistant (Awang Matusin) and a company we exposed yesterday, called WFM Development.  WFM Development is in turn owned by the assistant of another wealthy YB, whom we exposed yesterday as another major landgrabber, Naroden Majais.
More land grabs by Ministers - United Teamtrade is owned by the assistants of Awang Tengah and Naroden Majais - could they be holding the land for their own boss Taib Mahmud?
It seems the more Taib says the more he exposes his own corruption.  Better keep quiet Taib!

[Video] Thailand Huru Hara Dilanda Banjir, 11 terkorban

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 06:32 AM PDT

MEJ NOR IBRAHIM RMAF – THE CRUSADER

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 05:48 AM PDT

Blogger Mej Nor Ibrahim Sulaiman, a retired officer of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has since 2009 been on a crusade for several officers and men of the RMAF who have since retired, to be awarded with the appropriate award in recognition of their gallant and outstanding service to the nation. Mej Nor Ibrahim believes that these brave and gallant officers and airmen have been deprived of their recognition, while some other not so deserving cases have been awarded.

Reading from the numerous writings in his blog (http://xnuripilot.blogspot.com), Mej Nor Ibrahim, despite having written to the appropriate authorities and individuals, is still not able to convince any one of them to consider his appeal in awarding those officers and airmen of the RMAF. I can sense the frustration in Mej Nor Ibrahim, a retired air force officer whose sole purpose is to seek what is due for the officers and airmen that had once been his comrade at arms. I can see no other retired military officer like him who has taken so much of time and effort to dutifully serve others. I now begin to wonder why the serving military officers at Mindef, and in particular the air force big-wigs have to 'insulate' themselves away from the cause that Mej Nor Ibrahim is trying to perpetuate?

In an article that Mej Nor Ibrahim wrote to the Berita Harian dated 10th February 2011, he questioned why wasn't any one of the 18 policemen that died defending the police station at Bukit Kepong, Negeri Sembilan during a raid by communist terrorist in the early hours of 23 February 1950, not being awarded a single gallantry award. The policemen were outnumbered by a ratio of 10:1 and stood against the terrorist until they were shot dead and burned. Are their actions not heroism? Or have they all to be alive to tell the tale and to prove themselves heroes?

In his blog, Mej Nor Ibrahim had made a comparison between the Bukit Kepong incident and that of the Bukit Jenalik/Sauk incident that occurred on 6 July 2000. I don't wish to describe the Bukit Jenalik/Sauk incident because this incident is well known to the military and police circle, and it has also been made into a documentary film by History TV channel that only speaks of individual exploits, and not the many others who were intimately involved in the planning and execution of the operations.

The Bukit Jenalik/Sauk incident is to me an act undertaken by a group of criminals that has made national heroes of six individuals; two being recipients of the gallantry award of SP, and the remaining four, the PGB. I am told that not a single shot was fired at the criminals, and I suppose this must be the reason why the six were awarded the nation's highest award for valour. In the case of Bukit Kepong where 18 of our policemen and including 4 police dependents were killed and burned, not a single person was awarded; not even the lowly rated KPK.
Are we to believe that the policemen did nothing to defend themselves? Are we to believe that they did not shoot a single round, but instead ran away, which is an act of cowardice? Are we to believe that they surrendered themselves for fear of being killed? And I think, it must be for these reasons that they were not treated as heroes.

Now, in the case of Bukit Jenalik/Sauk, was there a firefight with bullets sizzling over the heads of our heroes, and with them charging through to disarm and capture the criminals? Are we to believe that by pushing down someone who is already frightened and confused, should rightfully be called a national hero and be crowned the SP? And for being caught and shot dead, should that dead person be called a hero and deserve the PGB? Are we to believe that the criminals should be treated as enemies of the state, like we did for the communist terrorist and insurgents?

There are several questions raised as to how could the six 'heroes' deserve the SP and PGB. They must be super heroes to outclass the British and Gurkha soldiers that fought in the Falklands. Please let me know how many of them were awarded the VC by the Queen? The Bukit Jenalik heroes must have even outclassed Kanang's act of bravery and valour.

I would like to appeal to the authorities and to all that reads this, to voice their support for what Mej Nor Ibrahim has been trying to do since 2009. Six awards for valour in just a single incident at Bukit Jenalik/Sauk, and not a single award for the twenty two who died defending their post against an overwhelming enemy force makes little sense to me.

CRUSADE AGAINST CORRUPTION

Go learn from PAS, you Pembela. You know not about Islam as PAS does!

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 07:14 AM PDT

How can lawfully defending one's religious rights amount to sedition, asks council leader who also tells the Muslim NGOs to 'go learn from PAS'.

The Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism has criticised a group of Muslim non-governmental organisations, calling itself Pembela, for its act of intimidation by lodging police reports against the council. Its president, Reverend Dr Thomas Philips, said MCCBCHST's action in protesting the desecration of the Bible in the Malay language was in accordance with the law and the constitution.

Referring to a report in the Star today, accusing the council of making seditious remarks on the issue of the Bible in Malay, Thomas said, "How can defending one's religious and constitutional rights through lawful means amount to sedition, as reported by certain media? The action by Pembela to lodge a police report against us is tantamount to intimidation and could be seditious because it appears to be calculated to confuse the people to act against the council. In fact, Pembela should not be involved, as the conditions imposed do not refer to their holy scriptures."

Even my Muslim colleague, a Malay, said those who opposed to Christians using 'Allah' were stupid! He told me a lot of other 'un-Islamic' things that Jais or other Islamic agencies were doing. He also said there was no need for Muslim converts to 'convert' their names as Islam taught its adherents to honor and respect the name of their father or family name - hence, retaining his own original name.

TI-Malaysia Sanggah Nazri: Bantuan Segera Pilihanraya Adalah Rasuah

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 05:29 AM PDT

"Banyak janji-janji ditaburkan seperti membina jambatan.

-mk

Nazri: Pemberian bantuan ketika pilihan raya bukan rasuah

— Bernama

Sexual Harrassment or Sexism?

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 04:28 AM PDT

It was really a delightfully entertaining experience to read the following post from Free Malaysia Today HERE:

Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin was yesterday accused of being a sexist when he said females are lousy drivers.

But today he turned the table on his critics when he claimed he is a victim of sexual harassment.

Bung Mokhtar, an Umno supreme council member, had said in Parliament that most women drivers were to be blamed for road accidents and that they do not concentrate on the road.

"After my statement, I have become the focus of the country's women including women's rights groups.

"I would like to ask for help from the Speaker because there has been sexual harassment against me," he said in Parliament today. CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Let's set the record right with regards to definitions:

1. Sexism:

Definitions of sexism on the Web:

* discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of the opposite sex

* Sexism, a term coined in the mid-20th century,Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, 6th edition is the belief or attitude that one gender or sex is inferior to, less competent, or less valuable than the other. ...

* sexist - male chauvinist: a man with a chauvinistic belief in the inferiority of women

* sexist - discriminatory on the basis of sex (usually said of men's attitude toward women)

* sexist - A person who discriminates on grounds of sex; someone who practises sexism; Unfairly discriminatory against one sex in favour of the other

* Behaviour and beliefs that rank the sexes (the physical characteristics that define male and female) and genders (cultural and psychological definitions of femininity and masculinity), placing more value on one over the other. ...

* Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on gender. Like the other "isms," sexism can be both personal and institutional.

2. Sexual harassment

Definitions of sexual harassment on the Web:

* unwelcome sexual behavior by a supervisor toward an employee

* Sexual harassment is intimidation, bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors. In some contexts or circumstances, sexual harassment may be illegal. ...

* "Sexual Harassment" is the second episode of the second season of the American comedy television series The Office, and the show's eighth episode overall. ...

* The following is an episode list for the MTV animated television series Beavis and Butt-head. The series has its roots in 1992 when Mike Judge created two animated shorts - "Frog Baseball" and "Peace, Love & Understanding" - which were later aired on Liquid Television.

* Sexual harassment is unwelcome behavior from either a coworker or advisor that targets others and interferes with a daily work routine. It can cause a hostile and uncomfortable work environment for any person involved.

* Sexual advances (like touching, grabbing) or sexual comments (that can be offensive and/or joking) that are not wanted or appropriate. This can happen in the workplace and a person can feel like they have no control over it. ...

* Harassment is an un-welcomed sexual advance by an employer or supervisor that becomes a condition of the employee's employment or represents a threat to the employee's continued employment. ...

* is interference, intimidation, hostility, or offensive behavior on the part of one person toward another based at least in part on the gender of the persons.

* Offensive conduct which is directed at a worker due to the worker's gender. Such conduct is actionable if it affects the worker's employment performance.

* Sexual intimidation at school, workplace, or other places of public accommodation.

* a form of sex discrimination that applies to employers of 15 or more employees and is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Tell me now - is it a case of sexual harassment or sexism?

Er...I think he got the wrong end of the stick when he said "After my statement, I have become the focus of the country's women including women's rights groups." We all know that he has a brand new and young wife but when women's rights groups are focussing on him, he must realize it is the ISSUE and NOT THE MAN they are interested in at the moment!

And to ask the Speaker for help? Wow!!  What a man! :-)

Maybe someone *smiles* should listen to "CRY BABY CRY" made famous by The Beatles. :-)

Erdogan Terus Dekati Syiah, Bertemu Ayatullah Sistani di Najaf

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 01:39 AM PDT

Recep Tayyip Erdo─čan, pemimpin Turki kini berada di Iraq. Kelmarin beliau baru bertemu dengan salah seorang ulama besar Syiah, iaitu Ayatullah Sistani (klik sini). Erdogan juga menziarahi makam Saidina Ali. World Bulletin menggambarkan kunjungan bersejarah ini sebagai 'Turkish PM becomes first sunni leader to visit shrine of Imam Ali' (klik sini).

Queue etiquettes, morals, politics and Commercial Queuers

QUEUE or Cut queue without passively wait in line?

One of my friends (real close friend, FB friend and patient) Dr. Zuraidi Ishak (Ph.D. doctor) wrote, "Why, when we lined up at the post office, or at any place, another line must be fast moving faster? Why?"

(Dear friend Dr. Zuraidi Ishak, kindly allow me to write a blog posting based on your FB, QUEUE or passively wait in line?)

A queue in front of a shop – a common sight in the People's Republic of Poland during the 1980s.

Although it is just a simple question about minor things, that simple problem triggered my brain to write many comments as this is related to bigger problems such as:

  1. jumping queues,
  2. change queue lines,
  3. to stay put etc
  4. which could even the trigger the jumping of the political divide, infightings between No 1 & No 2's,
  5. migration,
  6. brain drain, brain gain
  7. and Recirculation of brain as the Talent Corp is trying.
  8. And in Burma under General Ne Win's Socialist system, there were shortage of all the consumer goods and the new business of COMMERCIAL QUEUERS and black market traders appeared. Even cinema tickets, train tickets counters were occupied by those "Tan Si Too Sars" or COMMERCIAL QUEUERS.

Mind your queues! Iqbal Judge in Spectrum, TRIBUNE. ALL of us have been taught to do it, right from play school to high school, yet standing in a queue is a habit we seem to 'unlearn' the minute we leave the school gates.

This quaintly spelt word implies order, discipline, patience and an ability to wait for your turn, which may or may not come. In today's world, when we are recklessly hurtling along a torrent of chaos, standing in a queue becomes the acid test of everyday endurance. The aggressive 'achievers' ridicule it as a sign of timidity and meek submission; for some, being able to get 'out of turn' favours is an indicator of their powerful status. The disciplined 'queue-er' is more an aberration than the norm nowadays.

Making people stop and stand in line is perhaps a strategy devised by the Universal Energies to slow us down and freeze us in our tracks, forcing us to relinquish our attempts to control our world; we are made to just s-t-a-n-d and b-r-e-a-t-h-e, even reflect a little. Often, the myth of civility explodes in our faces as we try to jostle and jump the queue, always wanting to be the first…

The distressing queues are those of the long-suffering, poverty/calamity stricken creatures, their harrowed, care-worn eyes and outstretched hands grimly tugging at our plenitude. The thought of having to line up for that meagre ration, those drops of water, turns the stomach in shock waves of sympathy for these poor little Olivers, who dare not even ask for more…

The well-heeled have to queue too… at traffic lights. See their harassed, petulant faces in the long lines of air-conditioned cars, helmeted men on their mean machines and spunky women on Sunnys and Kinetics deftly weaving their way through the maze of vehicles on the roads. Witness here the frowns and fretful glances at watches, the impatient blaring of horns, the volcanic eruptions of 'road rage', expletives, fisticuffs and sometimes the horrifying mowing down of hapless pedestrians.

In this feverish, diabolic race to be the first, the patient, law-abiding citizen more often than not finds that he is more slow than steady; somehow it is becoming increasingly difficult to believe that he will ultimately win, for the smart-alecky queue-jumpers are already gloating at the finish line, looking mockingly down at them. The only solace is the little glow of satisfaction at having done the right thing — minded his Q(ueue)s…

I commented: Murphy's law:"Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". But sometimes it may be the case of "The Grass is always Greener on the Other Side of the fence" It is just the our psychology: that we think that what we want is better than what we have and in many cases we could be wrong. The Grass is not always greener on the other side.

Dr. Zuraidi Ishak: That's right  but again, let's go to my original point … it's always the case …you choose one lane of Touch & Go … That lane and will be cursed with one Bloody Car that only realize that he / she has to top-up.  When he / she is approaching the T & G machine … gosh … it's so frustrating: (

I wrote: Because of that, some wise person invented the CHANGE theory, President Mr. Obama used that and our PM YAB Datuk Sri Najib started the gov. transformation programme. Nowadays governments R scared that if they do not change (for better) people would change them.

Content theory  explains why human needs change with time. Another theory that attempts to explain human behavior is Process theory. Content theory includes the work of David McClelland, Abraham Maslow and other psychologists as they attempt…ed to explain why human needs change, but not how they change.

May be, we try Game Theory whether to change our QUEUE lines.

The application of game theory to political science is focused in the overlapping areas of fair division, political economy, public choice, war bargaining, positive po…litical theory, and social choice theory. In each of these areas, researchers have developed game-theoretic models in which the players are often voters, states, special interest groups, and politicians.

For early examples of game theory applied to political science, see the work of Anthony Downs. In his book An Economic Theory of Democracy (Downs 1957), he applies the Hotelling firm location model to the political process. In the Downsian model, political candidates commit to ideologies on a one-dimensional policy space. The theorist shows how the political candidates will converge to the ideology preferred by the median voter.

A game-theoretic explanation for democratic peace is that public and open debate in democracies send clear and reliable information regarding their intentions to other states. In contrast, it is difficult to know the intentions of nondemocratic leaders, what effect concessions will have, and if promises will be kept. Thus there will be mistrust and unwillingness to make concessions if at least one of the parties in a dispute is a non-democracy (Levy & Razin 2003).

Faridah Hanum Abd Rahman commented: Perhaps the grass is owayz greener on the other side..?

Dani Zuraidi : maybe its not really going faster. u just feeling it cause ur so annoyed about queing… like in a traffic jam. the line next to you is always faster no matter how many times u change the lane…

Zuraidi Ishak: but when i change lane … then, my former line will be moving … very fast indeed.

I joked: But for you, no one will pay if you jump the political divide now. (Just joking only, I believe that you would not even think about that.) Your place is the best for you and for your family.

If there is a system giving queuing numbers and call accordingly, no problem in Banks, Post Office but Toll Plaza different. T& G is better but Smart Tag better. But as U say, sometimes if unlucky could be stucked.

Even in politics, although there is an official Q, if there is no term limit and if the No1 (in any party) never gives way, problems would follow.

You see, in US there is NO need to sabotage or backstabbing between Obama & Mrs Clinton. After 2 terms Obama will go.

I wrote: Dear Dr., sorry to made your simple Q system to International Politics.

As a foreigner here, I wish to see ALL the leaders from all the parties reduce infighting and do more for the country.

I hope and pray that Malaysia would progress, prosper and peaceful because I have already fall in love with your country.

Dani Zuraidi :D r, when you talk to me its always about politics? Just curious. I am also a young Malay men who has other interest besides politics. :)

Dr. Zuraidi Ishak: its becoz politics is in our blood my boy …( Dani Zuraidi is his son studying in USA and my former patient.

Ko Ko Gyi Aristotle addressed the city in his work titled Politics. Aristotle considered the city to be a natural community. Moreover, he considered the city to be prior in importance to the family which in turn is prior to the individual, "for the whole must of necessity be prior to the part".[43] He is also famous for his statement that "man is by nature a political animal."

Dear Dani Zuraidi. Sorry for always talking politics but you may understand later that you cannot runaway or avoid POLITICS. Allow me to tell you a story………

The boiling frog story is a widespread anecdote describing a frog slowly being… boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death. The story is often used as a metaphor for the inability of people to react to significant changes that occur gradually. According to contemporary biologists the premise of the story is not literally true; an actual frog submerged and gradually heated will jump out. However, some 19th century research experiments suggested that the underlying premise is true, provided the heating is gradual enough. …Sorry, this is also a political story.

Cutting in line, also known as line/queue jumping, butting, barging, budging, skipping, ditching, breaking, shorting, or pushing in is the act of entering a line or queue at any position other than the end……..

Etiquette=The act of cutting is generally frowned upon by most people. However, it has developed a set of rules to allow for "fair" cutting. These include asking for "cuts" – permission to enter ahead of the person that was asked, or "back cuts" – permission to enter behind the person who was asked….A negative response from the rear of the line is expected when someone has cut in line up ahead. According to one study, a person cutting in line has a 54% chance that others in the line will object. With two people cutting in line, there is a 91.3% chance that someone will object. The proportion of people objecting from behind the cutter is 73.3%, with the person directly behind the point of intrusion objecting most frequently.

Cutting is also present on roadways, especially restricted access highways, where traffic queues build up at merge locations. Drivers who bypass traffic by waiting until the last possible moment before merging are sometimes considered to be "cutters," and are frequent instigators of road rage. This behavior is not usually illegal in the US, unless the driver crosses a solid white line or uses dangerous merging techniques.

Legislature in Washington passed a bill that makes cutting in line to catch a ferry illegal. Cutters can be fined $101 and forced to return to the end of the line.

In the Medical field, especially in A&E or Accident and Emergencies Units we need to prioritize to attend the real urgent patients. Those who come for simple cough, cold, sore-throat or minor food poisoning and abrasive wounds need to wait for hours. Even in the clinics, emergencies like Asthmatic attacks, accident and bleeding patients or severe chest pain patients need to be attended immediately.Content theories explain the specific factors that motivate people. In other words, they answer the question What drives behaviour? It is important to remember that the following are theories, none of which have been conclusively shown to be valid. Nonetheless, they are helpful in providing a contextual framework for dealing with individuals.

Triage Information

This Accident & Emergency Department utilises the Manchester Triage System – a nationally recognised method of clinically prioritising each patient seen.

This system aims to ensure that you, the patient, are seen in order of clinical need, rather than in order of attendance.

Each patient seen is placed into a category. This leaflet aims to help explain the group into which you have been placed and the target time to be seen within that group. Following your consultation with the triage nurse your condition has been categorised as:-

Priority Category                    Example   Estimated Patient Waiting Time

1 Immediate Cardiac arrest no waiting time

2 Very urgent Cardiac chest pain 10 mins

3 Urgent broken bones seen within 60 mins

4 Standard abdominal pains seen within 120 mins

5 Non-urgent minor wounds seen within 240 mins

How the System Works

The triage nurse has been trained to accurately assess patients attending with a presenting complaint. Their decision is based on the collection of relevant information within a specified framework of reference, remembering that each patient is unique.

Based on this assessment you the patient, are placed into an appropriate category with a desired target time in which to be seen. Your category has been ticked on this leaflet.

Although an estimated waiting time has been established, due to emergencies arriving into the Department, these times can vary. Unfortunately in the main waiting area you may not be aware of the events occurring, but we ask you to be tolerant of the situation.

We apologise for any excess of the time estimated and ask that you would consult a member of staff if you feel your condition greatly worsening during your wait.

Ucapan saya Menjunjung Kasih DYMM Sultan Selangor untuk Sidang DUN 2011

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 03:15 AM PDT

Seri Setia ingin menjunjung kasih atas Titah Ucapan DYMM Tuanku sempena Majlis Pembukaan Mesyuarat Pertama Penggal Keempat Sidang Dewan Negeri Selangor Ke-12.

Federalisme Abad Ke-21

IPT Selangor Zon Bebas AUKU

Roadmap Baru Untuk Flat Kos Rendah

Bila masjid naik, penduduk India panik akibat hasutan MIC.

Melebarkan Kemudahan Internet Di Selangor

Keputusan Pembangunan / Kemajuan Disegerakan

Selangor Terus Memimpin Perubahan

Yang Berhormat-Yang Berhormat Sekalian,

Seri Setia ingin mengucapkan tahniah kepada Kerajaan Negeri Selangor kerana beberapa dasar pembaharuan yang diperkenalkan. dasar-dasar seperti cuti bersalin 90 hari dan Hari Tanpa Beg Plastik kini turut diciplak oleh Barisan Nasional.

Ternyata selangor terus memimpin perubahan.

Seri Setia menyokong Titah DYMM Tuanku.

Eskay Ugut Untuk Dedahkan Lebih Banyak

Eskay mahu Anwar jawab lima soalan, dakwa video seks 'anugerah Allah'

"Saya mahu semua orang tahu.

Tetapi, saya suka bila pembangkang kuat supaya kepentingan rakyat terjaga," katanya.

Bagaimanapun blog itu memetik Shazryl Eskay berkata, "tetapi Anwar bukan manusia yang rakyat kenal. Cukuplah rakyat ditipu. Anwar kena berhenti dan letak jawatan."

Malah Eskay juga berkata, beliau tidak mahu penyokong-penyokong Anwar menyerangnya kerana jika mereka terus berbuat demikian, Eskay mendakwa dia akan bertindak balas.

"Jangan biar saya dedahkan lebih banyak,"
katanya.

"Sekarang awak semua tanya Anwar lima soalan," Shazryl Eskay dipetik berkata.

-TMI

Questions in the State Assembly

Posted: 30 Mar 2011 02:38 AM PDT

I asked a few questions during the State Assembly sitting today.

At first YB Wong Koon Mun (BN-Kuala Kubu Bharu) asked a question about the state's policy on water conservation.

YB Elizabeth Wong, the State Exco on Environment outlined some of the initiatives introduced, including rainwater harvesting, the gazetting of former mines and ponds, etc. SK Sri Kelana which is located in my constituency is one of the participants in the rainwater harvesting program.

She also spoke about recycling cooking oil intiative under Lembaga Urus Air Selangor. This has been implemented in mosques and flats across Selangor including in Desa Mentari.

I stood to ask a supplementary question about whether there are steps to improve the enforcement on the use of grease traps and promote the recycling of cooking oil widely. In MBPJ grease traps are a requirement for restaurants but in many enforcement exercises it is discovered that restaurants do not actually use the grease traps. This is a major source of pollution including in Kelana Jaya Park.

YB Elizabeth explained that there is a three-strike rule whereby premises that are found to be flouting health, safety and environmental regulations three-times in a row can be closed down. As for the recycling of cooking oil, this can be implemented together with Joint Management Bodies in commercial areas.

Next was my question whether the auxiliary police that was proposed by the Selangor State Government and MBPJ and rejected by the Home Ministry and Bukit Aman is a reasonable policy to fight crime.

YAB Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim replied to the question. He said that the auxiliary police was identified by MBPJ as one of the measures identified to fight crime in Petaling Jaya. Unfortunately the Home Ministry and Bukit Aman used the excuse of overlap of jurisdiction as a reason.

I asked a supplementary question on whether the Home Ministry and Bukit Aman veto was politically motivated as auxiliary police is a normal practice in Malaysia at FELDA Plantations, airports and other areas. Even Bandar Sunway has its auxiliary police provided by the developer. Yet MBPJ was refused!

Tan Sri Khalid, being the diplomatic man he is replied that he prayed that is not the case!

I also spoke about crime in my speech debating the Sultan's address that I will upload next.
