Tips on How to Remain Connected

Recently, I came across this article written by Susannah Vila on 'How To Remain Connected if your Internet gets shut off". According to that article:

Burma, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and Tajikistan, and - most recently - Egypt and Libya, are all countries where governments have controlled access to communication technologies as a way to hinder social mobilization during periods of political unrest. If you live in a country where this is a possibility, consider preparing for it.

, one of my favorite websites, also featured an article on Get Internet Access When Your Government Shuts It Down.

That article by Patrick Miller, David Daw of PCWorld said:

These days, no popular movement goes without an Internet presence of some kind, whether it's organizing on Facebook or spreading the word through Twitter. And as we've seen in Egypt, that means that your Internet connection can be the first to go. Whether you're trying to check in with your family, contact your friends, or simply spread the word, here are a few ways to build some basic network connectivity when you can't rely on your cellular or landline Internet connections.
Do-It-Yourself Internet With Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi

Even if you've managed to find an Internet connection for yourself, it won't be that helpful in reaching out to your fellow locals if they can't get online to find you. If you're trying to coordinate a group of people in your area and can't rely on an Internet connection, cell phones, or SMS, your best bet could be a wireless mesh network of sorts–essentially, a distributed network of wireless networking devices that can all find each other and communicate with each other. Even if none of those devices have a working Internet connection, they can still find each other, which, if your network covers the city you're in, might be all you need. At the moment, wireless mesh networking isn't really anywhere close to market-ready, though we have seen an implementation of the 802.11s draft standard, which extends the 802.11 Wi-Fi standard to include wireless mesh networking, in the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) XO laptop.

2 ‘free’ radio stations and 1 ‘free’ paper

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 09:41 AM PST

first radio free sarawak, which was started sometime in november last year.   now, it's durian FM, just launched two days ago. the main DJ for durianFM is jamaluddin ibrahim (pic),  the mandarin-speaking  DJ from 98.8FM who was sacked in september last year.

another sacked person – hata wahari, formerly from the umno-controlled super racist paper, utusan malaysia will become the editor of a new paper called 'utusan rakyat'.  well, this paper has yet to be approved by the home minister. the application for publication was sent on 4 march, and it is understood that the approval will take about 2 months.  hmm… since this paper is supported by the oppostion, PR, i have a feeling the home ministry might dilly dally on the approval and it will certainly be more than 2 months! they might not even approve it at all!!

the government is running scared. scared of a free democratic voice. already they are now harrassing radio free sarawak. who knows, one day they might harass durianFM too and they might come up with all sorts of excuses not to approve the publication of utusan rakyat.

i always maintain that a country can call itself democratic only if it allows the opposition to operate a radio station, a tv station, a newspaper, FREELY. does malaysia do that? NO! so what is this about malaysia being a democratic country? total BS!!

Nowhere to run, NA... and... and...!

The truth is prevailing. As I had expected, the MCMC project scandal is not a lone ranger's job. For Rais special assistant NA to gain free access to the Commission and dictated the Board's decision, someone must have aided him.

And of course, he formed a formidable team with one or two MCMC's high ranking officials. The support letters purportedly came from the Info Minister added weigh.

The only thing I didnt expect was the scandal involves more than just two people. Only after MACC officials 'confiscated' some files and documents from MCMC hea dquarters in Cyberjaya recently, more 'shocks' were discovered.

I cant write what it is. Let the law takes in own course.

NA got nowhere to run. They will pick him up in a matter of days, and so is this senior official for the 'shocking' discoveries. I hope Datuk Rais didnt have a foot in it as I believe the documents were forged (probably cut and paste).

I know I am doing the right thing, After all, I am all alone, no support from my fellow bloggers and neither did I get a single sen out of it. Instead, I need to seek the police to protect me and my family.

Why the police? There is a double-agent inside the MCMC, a CIA-trained who boasts his close connection with the Agency.

Latest news, the MCMC has cancelled and freeze all projects indefinitely to assist MACC investigation.

Jennifer Peluk Islam Setelah Melihat Umat Islam Dilayan Buruk

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 10:10 AM PST

Jennifer Fayed merasakan perkawinannya suram.

Ia baru saja mengunjungi WTC sehari sebelumnya.

Jennifer terus memikirkan kehamilannya.

"Saya menangis sambil terus memohon.

Ia kehabisan akal memikirkan kehamilannya.

Hari-hari berlalu, Jennifer sedang menyaksikan televisyen ketika sebuah siaran berita menngganggu acara.

"Mengapa anda mengenakan jilbab? Siapa yang anda yakini? Siapa itu Muhammad yang sering anda bicarakan?"

"Beberapa orang punya jawapan, namun sebagian besar tak tahu bagaimana menjawab pertanyaan saya.

"Saya takjub, inilah agama saya," fikirnya.

Ia hanya mengangguk malu.

"Saatnya melaksanakan solat. Ini solat pertama saya seperti seorang Muslim," katanya. Ia sebenarnya tak tahu apa mereka lakukan. Namun, seorang temannya mengatakan 'ikuti saja apa yang mereka lakukan'. Jadi, itulah yang ia lakukan.

Jennifer berkomat-kamit meniru jamaah lainnya.

Jennifer merasa belum melakukan cukup.

Jennifer tahu adiknya hanya bergurau.

Jennifer akhirnya memberanikan diri memberi tahu orangtuanya.

Netto on “A Doctor in the House”

March 9, 2011

Terence Netto on "A Doctor in the House"

COMMENT So Dr Mahathir Mohamad's memoirs are finally out. It's has a fetching title, 'A Doctor in the House'. The former prime minister would have made a good sub-editor. His previous book 'Blogging to Unblock' also sported a catchy title.

Months after retiring from the premiership in late October 2003, Mahathir was said to be making good progress on his memoirs.

Given his age – Mahathir was an advanced septuagenarian on his retirement – and speed of composition, his publishers were on course to launch his memoirs within two years of his leaving office. But distractions, like the effort of turfing out his apparently refractory successor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and the foray into bolstering Malay rights group Perkasa, must have slowed Mahathir.

'A Doctor in the House' is being published a good seven years and four months after Mahathir retired as prime minister. One would have thought that the long span between retirement from the public arena and the written self-description of a life lived in its glare would have been aids to rumination.

But no, Mahathir is not the ruminative sort. There is little in the book that smacks of reconsiderations; revisionary papering-over, yes (with respect to his use – he now says, it was the police who insisted on it – of the Internal Security Act), but no mediation by second thoughts, afterwords, and late perspectives, of episodes torn from the fraught and living moment.

Low vantage point

The unexamined life, said Socrates, is not worth living. When it is a long life, especially one filled with combat, and the teller, afterwards, speaks of it like he's in perpetual argument, you see the point of the Greek sage's stricture: a life lived in the trenches ought to be told from a vantage point more elevated than a peephole.

Mahathir's version of the cause célèbre of his tenure as PM – the sacking of his deputy, Anwar Ibrahim – does not rise above the level of the keyhole.

He extracts episodes from their dense context and, with nary a thought for their complexity, secretes them through the prism of his self-interested standpoint. The upshot: readers are saddled with a screed rather than a story, with canards more than chronicles.

The veracity of what is recounted in 'A Doctor in the House' would have to be juxtaposed with other accounts as may be available.

Take Anwar's account of when he first met Mahathir. It was in 1971 at a leading club in Kuala Lumpur. It was Ramadan; no prizes for guessing who was the more cognisant of the Muslim holy month's obligations when the stewards came around to take an order. There was no note of reproach or triumphalism when Anwar recalled the episode; only a knowing smile at the foibles of human nature.

The betting is it will stay that way when it comes time for Anwar to pen his memoirs, which would be a feat of nonjudgmental understanding, the greater would that be by reason of the travails he has had to endure on account of his imputed sexual orientation.

Crass partisanship

Take, also, the recall of a one-time head of the Election Commission who advised Mahathir on the need for changes to campaign rules. This man had trained under former deputy prime minister and home minister, the redoubtable Tun Dr. Ismail Abdul Rahman, and thus had a sense of fair play stronger than the pull of crass partisanship.

When he told Mahathir that some campaign rules unduly favoured the incumbents, the PM's riposte was that the fact the rules favoured the incumbents was not sufficient reason to change them.

Now Mahathir asks to be believed that he did not want to detain people under the ISA in 1987 and had indeed wanted the law amended or removed from the statute books against the objections of the police. These episodes are retailed here, not for the purpose of denigration of the once-and-still mighty.

When you have an account as gaudy as 'A Doctor in the House', you have to trawl over a wide area and juxtapose what you may find against what is being put out and sieve the lot for telling tidbits that are more emblematic of character than entire tomes. Otherwise readers would be at the mercy of the one-eyed jacks.–www.malaysiakini.com

Ulasan GB

Mamak Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus accidentally murdered Teoh Beng Hock?!

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 07:35 AM PST

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) assistant enforcement officer Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus said today police tried to link him to Teoh Beng Hock's death.

He told the Royal Commission of Inquiry investigating the cause of the political aide's death that police interrogated him on July 18, 2009, two days after Teoh was found dead and said that he was  interrogated as if  he had killed Teoh when he asked by MACC lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah today about the questions that the police had asked about Teoh.

Earlier, Bar Council lawyer N Nahendran asked Mohd Ashraf if he was ever accused of any disciplinary matter in MACC, to which Mohd Ashraf answered "no". Nevertheless, when Nahendran asked if there were police reports lodged against him for committing violence during interrogations, he said "yes".

‘Violent’ MACC officer grilled over reports

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 07:05 AM PST

KUALA LUMPUR: A Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer today admitted that police reports have been lodged against him for using violence during interrogation.
However, assistant enforcement officer Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus, 27, told the Royal Commission of Inquiry investigating Teoh Beng Hock's death that he could not recall how many such reports were lodged.
"You don't remember?" the witness was quizzed by RCI chairman James Foong.
"Do u want us to remind you? We can refresh your memory, do you want us to remind you or do you want to tell us on your own?"
"Was it nine (reports)?" he added, but Ashraf shook his head and repeated that he could not remember.

Bar Council's N Nahendran had earlier asked Ashraf if he was ever accused of any disciplinary problems in MACC, to which the witness replied in the negative.
But the MACC officer answered "yes" when the lawyer asked if there were any police reports lodged against him for using violence during interrogation.
Nahendran then proceeded to ask Ashraf a series of questions:
"Did you at any time, hit Teoh on his head? Did you at any time punch or hit his chest? Did you at any time hit his left chest with a stick or rotan?
"Did you force him to sit on a block of ice? Did u use a neckhold or chokehold? Did you at any time press on or step on his hand ? Did you tie his hands to the chair?"
Ashraf replied "no" to all the questions.
No legal authority to interrogate
Today, it was also revealed that Ashraf, who had assisted another officer Arman Alias, in questioning Teoh on the night of July 15, 2009, had no legal authority to interrogate the DAP aide.
Bar Council's Edmund Bon revealed that an MACC complaints committee, which undertook an internal investigation after Teoh's death and reported its findings on April 26, 2010, found that Ashraf's interrogation of Teoh was illegal.
Bon: Do u know the law under which you interviewed Teoh?
Ashraf: Yes, Section 30(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009
Bon: Do you agree with me that this requires a statement be written during an interrogation?
Ashraf: I don't agree.
Bon: Please read it yourself, Section 30(8) of the Act says that in any interrogation, you need to have a written statement. Did you and Arman do this?
Ashraf: No
Bon: Do you agree that you have breached the law?
Ashraf: No
Bon: Okay my question is simple. You always tell the inquiry that you follow orders only. The MACC complaints committee says you have no powers to take 'intelligence' statements. Will you, knowing that today, do such a thing if ordered to do so even though it's against the law?
Ashraf: Not anymore.
Earlier, Bon also caught Ashraf contradicting himself.
"You had told the inquiry yesterday that after questioning Teoh, you had gone back to your office to rest and also do work, but why in three other statements (to the police, inquest, and internal inquiry) you had only stated that you wanted to rest? Why are your answers different?" asked the lawyer.
To which, Ashraf replied:" In my mind, I was resting as the work I was doing was not really investigations."
When asked, Ashraf told the commission that a civilian should not be in the MACC office without supervision and the person's every action should be monitored.
Even though he admitted to being the one who asked Teoh to wait, he said that there were no orders to monitor Teoh at the time.
Ashraf was also caught contradicting himself when Bon asked him when he had looked through Teoh's witness statement to MACC.
Bon: When did you go through Teoh's statement?
Ashraf: A week or two after July 16
Bon: You said in the inquest that it was immediately, don't tell me a few weeks, or else we would be investigating whether you have been coached to answer questions.
Ashraf: Yes, now I think I read the statement immediately.
Ashraf also told the commission that he was instructed by the Selangor MACC head of investigation unit Hairul Ilham Hamzah to complete investigations on that day itself.
"Because you were directed to do so, if Teoh tried to leave, you would have stopped him from leaving, yes?" asked Bon.
Ashraf initially said "no", but then conceded that he would be forced to ask Teoh to stay due to the instructions from his superior.
"In short, you were to complete investigations on Teoh come hell or highwater," interjected commissioner T Selventhiranathan.
"I could not have put it in a better way, Yang Ariff," added Bon.
Unhappy with police in interrogation

Meanwhile, Foong also noted that Mohd Ashraf has the "worse number of complaints" lodged against him in MACC compared to other officers.
Foong then asked: "After you were investigated by on these complaints, did you try to change your attitude and ways of interrogation?", to which Mohd Ashraf replied: "No, because after this I did not
interrogate anymore."
Foong also noted that the police had investigated Ashraf but was not questioned internally by MACC.
Mohd Ashraf told the commission of his experience being interrogated himself by the Selangor police the day after Teoh died.
"The police had interrogated me as if I had murdered Teoh. The interview lasted until 12am," he said.
Mohd Ashraf said the police at the Selangor police headquarters asked him if he had slapped Teoh or used any other objects to injure Teoh.
Asked how he felt to be subjected to the same treatment by the police on being interrogated, Mohd Ashraf said he merely felt tired.
"You've been trained to be an interrogator, you cannot feel how a public person would feel if called in for the first time and detained for questioning for hours by the enforcement authorities, but how would you feel, if you were in the position of Teoh Beng Hock?" asked Foong.
Ashraf: "I would feel stressed."
During questioning by MACC lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, Mohd Ashraf told the court  how he tagged documents (belonging to state exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah) that involved more than RM10,000 but did not find any quotations for them.
He said that the target was Ean Yong and that the objective of his questioning was to find out if there were any false claims.
Criticised over selective amnesia
On Teoh's appearance during interrogation, Mohd Ashraf added on to what he had said yesterday.
"Before the documents were shown, he leaned back and seem relaxed. And after he was shown the four documents and he straightened his body and didn't lean back until we finished. He also kept on sucking his teeth like someone with a toothache."
However, Mohd Ashraf's detailed description earned him a jibe from Selventhiranathan, who said: "Oh, so now your amnesia has dissappeared?"
Later in the afternoon, the commission heard from Mohd Nazri Ibrahim, the officer who recorded Teoh's statement before adjourning proceedings.
The inquiry continues tomorrow with MACC officer Arman Alias taking the stand.
Teoh, the political aide of Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong of DAP, was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam.
He had been interrogated the night before by MACC officers at their office, located on the 14th floor of the same building.
The MACC was investigating the alleged misuse of Selangor government allocations.
On Jan 5, coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas returned an open verdict in the inquest into Teoh's death, ruling out both suicide and homicide.
Subsequently, the government caved in to public pressure and established the commission now sitting.
It is investigating both the cause of Teoh's death and MACC's interrogation methods. The inquiry is scheduled to end on April 25.

Lori Tangki Terbalik Di Lebuhraya LEKAS

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 07:11 AM PST

Isu FLOM, Nazri Menipu Di Dalam Parlimen?

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 06:18 AM PST

-mk

Ulasan GB

This week’s new cases

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 05:38 AM PST

I was at home on Monday when SN called to ask if any of our volunteers could speak Mandarin as there was a Mandarin-speaking female PLHIV needing help. I couldn't give my answer straight away because while we do have a few female Chinese volunteers, some of them don't know Mandarin. Me? I only know Mandarin oranges…

So I texted a few of my Chinese volunteers and finally one of them reverted back to me saying that she's able to help out. So I immediately gave her the name and phone number of the said PLHIV.

Actually this wasn't a new case. She had been going for appointments at the Ipoh ID clinic since 2003, although maybe her case was never referred to us as her appointments were probably during the weeks when our volunteers weren't around. Despite being diagnosed for more than 7 years now, according to SN, she still seemed depressed. Which was why the doctor suggested that SN got hold of us Buddies and find out if we have any Mandarin speaking volunteers to talk to her.

The volunteer said she'd call by this week, but I have yet to get any feedback.

Today I was on clinic duty. There was only 1 new case referred. Lai, a 20 year old girl, found out about her HIV after she donated blood during a blood donation drive near her place late last year. It was her first time donating blood. Staying with her family, Lai said none of her family members are aware of her HIV.

Me: Habis, you datang hospital ni family tak tanya ka pasal apa?

Lai: Tak, dia orang ingat saya keluar pergi pekan saja.

Me: Tak mau bagitau ka?

Boyfriend saya pun tau.

Me: Boyfriend sudah test?

Lai: Sudah, dia negatif.

Me: Dia okay tak? Bagi you support?

Lai: Dia okay. Sekarang apa2 pun saya cakap sama dia sajalah.

For the moment it looks as though she'll never tell her family. It was our first meet but yet she openly admitted she doesn't get along with her family at all. Although she still stays with them, she feels as though they don't love her, always blaming her for anything. Which is why most of the time she prefers to go out.

Not wanting to be too dependent on her parents, she has got herself a job, as an assistant at a kindergarten. Frankly, I think it is a matter of time before she decides to move out and stay on her own, or with her boyfriend…

A Moonlight Serenade Gone Awry!

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 03:46 AM PST

According to this report HERE, Putrajaya revealed today that while Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor did not have aides within the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), her husband's officers are occasionally seconded to assist her in her role as the prime minister's wife.

Interestingly, the original article was titled Nazri: PM's staff moonlighting for Rosmah at THIS LINK but it was updated and titled Nazri: Rosmah gets help from PM's aides at THIS SITE.

My guess is that some may have been rattled by the term 'moonlighting' the meaning of which can be accessed HERE.

Well, the series of reports/statements have been puzzling as usual.

1. In the Malaysian Insider report, Nazri said "There is no fixed or special contract staff for the prime minister's wife but officers from PMO will, from time to time, help her carry out her duties as the wife of the prime minister.

"The element of extra cost does not arise because they are the prime minister's employees," he said.

Nazri said that the officers would be assigned to help with correspondence and handle invitations for local and international events for Rosmah.

2. In THIS ARTICLE from Free Malaysia Today, it was reported that:

Loke did not seem satisfied with the reply. He pointed out to Nazri that the website of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) once listed the names of six officers holding specific posts at FLOM.

"Why does this occur if there are no officers designated to FLOM?" he asked

Nazri read again his reply from a prepared text and added that PMO was going through an updating process to avoid confusion on the matter.

3. In another article HERE by FMT, it was reported that:

The existence of a full-fledged First Lady of Malaysia (FLOM) division in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) proves that Najib Tun Razak lied to the Dewan Rakyat when he said his wife Rosmah Mansor had no staff of her own, opposition Member of Parliament Teresa Kok said today.

"The prime minister lied to the Dewan Rakyat in November 2010 when in his parliamentary answer to Bukit Bendera (MP Liew Chin Ton), he said that there are no full-time staff or contract staff specially assigned to his wife, Rosmah Mansor.

"Najib's statement has now been proven to be a pack of lies with the discovery that there exists a "FLOM division" in the Prime Minister's Office dedicated to serving Rosmah as evidenced by the PMO's very own staff directory web page.

"The fact that the web page was suddenly removed two to three days ago upon being criticised by the public makes the existence of this division all the more suspicious," said Kok, the Seputeh MP, in a statement.

4. In THIS ARTICLE posted by FMT yesterday, it was reported that:

A new unit in the Prime Minister's Department has set tongues wagging.

The unit known as FLOM, an acronym for First Lady of Malaysia, is a full-fledged department that looks into the operational needs of the Prime Minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Ensconed within the premises of the PM's Office, FLOM has a six-member staff headed by special officer Siti Azizah Sheikh Abod.

The rest of the unit comprises two personal assistants Saleha Mohd Rabani and Siti Zaiton Abdul Ghani and three assistant officers with special functions – G Vimala, Rizal Mansor and Nurul Rosemiemmy Kahsimi.

What these personnel actually do is anyone's guess and FLOM's mission and vision remain a mystery. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) official website too is not helpful. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.

4. In case you want to know more about FLOM, check out:

Finding F.L.O.M.

Last year, there was quite a heated debate about who is entitled to use the term First Lady of Malaysia wrt to a certain advertisement that appeared in a foreign country.

Check out what Wikipedia has to say about that HERE.

In the mean time, don't you think this whole issue should not have arisen in the first place? None of the other spouses of the previous PM's were so high profile but yet, achieved a lot during their tenure of service.

The sudden outbursts and statements sound to me like a moonlight serenade gone awry.

So what will happen next? What do you think?

If you love oldies, do click HERE to listen to Henry Mancini's version of MOONLIGHT SERENADE or a Frank Sinatra's version AT THIS LINK.

At least that is music to soothe our ears that hurt from all the 'serenades' and out of tune arrangements that are being played out for us - all gone awry!

Do leave a comment to share your views. Thanks. Have a lovely evening.

Anak Taib Mahmud Gemar Bersosial, Isteri Tuntut Fasakh

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 03:39 AM PST

- THE STAR/NORAFIFI EHSAN

-mstar

Will Taib now groom his 'other' son?

Political novice Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib is being urged to contest on his father's party ticket.

KUCHING: Is embattled "kleptocrat" Chief Minister Taib Mahmud engineering his exit?

Why otherwise would 13 villages in the Sadong Jaya constituency suddenly call for his eldest son, Mahmud Abu Bekir, to contest in the coming state polls?

Like his younger brother Sulaiman Rahman, who in 2008 won the Kota Samarahan parliamentary seat, previously held by Taib, Abu Bekir also has no political past.

Taib, who was rumoured to have identified Sulaiman as his political heir apparent, had in 2008 planned his son's political ascent. But Sulaiman subsequently lost interest in politics.

Desperate for a successor, sources within Taib's Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) are hinting that Taib may be now engaging his older son's interest.

While Abu Bekir's political history is limited to being the son of Taib, in the corporate world, he helms Sarawak's largest business conglomerate Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS).

CMS is directly owned by Taib's closest family members.

It is also one of 49 Taib-linked companies across eight countries blacklisted by the Swiss-based Bruno Manser Fund which has alleged that the extensive Taib-family wealth was derived from the alleged injustices against the indigenous communities in Sarawak and the massive raping of the Borneo rainforest.

According to PBB sources, Abu Bekir has shown "no real interest" in active politics, preferring the boardroom to the State Legislative Assembly.

"(Abu) Bekir can be described as a political greenhorn. He's has shown no interest in politics.

"But if his father (Taib) needs him, he will be there to support him, " said the source.

On Monday, Taib had reportedly met with several senior PBB at his headquarters in Jalan Bako to discuss the list of candidates. The meeting has since spawned rumours of an April state election.

PBB is expected to field 10 to 12 new faces in the state polls and speculations are that Abu Bekir may step out of his comfort zone to aid his embattled father.
Calls for Bekir

Interestingly enough, also on Monday, 113 residents from 13 villagers in Sadong Jaya constituency gathered outside the same headquarters and urged Taib to field his son in their constituency.

The villagers said they needed a "true leader" who could bring to Sadong Jaya the much-needed change and development.

"We know and we want a Sadong Jaya candidate who can bring about changes, development and progress to the constituency," said Kampung Semera Hilir headman Ain Mahli.

Ain said the Sadong Jaya constituents desperately want to see improvement in their socio-economic status.

He urged Taib not to trivialise their wish and asked that their proposal, which was handed over to PBB executive secretary Awang Bujang Awang Antek, be "viewed seriously".

"We want the chief minister to field only capable PBB candidates. Abu Bekir can bring the much needed development to Sadong Jaya," he said.

Sadong Jaya, however, is not quite the safe seat going by the majority polled by incumbent Wan Abdul Waham.

Taib might be less inclined to risk fielding his son here.

In 2006, four-term incumbent Wahab barely beat PKR to secure the seat. He took the seat by a 858- vote majority.

Wahab obtained 2,715 votes against Piee Ling's 1,857 votes.Wahab has since decided not to seek a re-election.

Sadong Jaya is one of the 10 PBB seats which will see a new face. -FMT
