-fariszaz

Sarawak poll: 'Ngap Sayot' for BN?

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 08:25 AM PDT

BN today announced its candidates lineup for 17 constituencies (except Bakelalan), including 18 new faces for the April 16 state election challenge (read here).

PBB got most seats, at 35 while other components SUPP (19), PRS (9) and SPDP (8). Going by party memberships, it was a fair one (here). Only SPDP has yet to pick it candidate for N70 seat in Bakelalan.

The BN candidates were announced by PBB information chief Tan Sri Adenan Satem in Kuching.

The new faces from PBB are Dr Hazaland Abang Hipni (for Demak Laut), Martin Ben (Kedup), Aidel Lariwoo (Sadong Jaya), Razali Ghapor (Beting Maro), Razi Sitam (Saribas), Datuk Len Talif Salleh (Belawai), Dolah Saidol (Semop), Dr Annuar Rapee (Nangka), Ripin Lamat (Lambir) and Dennis Ngau (Telang Usan).

The first-timers from SUPP are Sim Kiam Chiok (Padungan), Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian (Pending), Sih Hua Tong (Batu Lintang), Ling Kie King (Meradong), Chieng Buong Toon (Bukit Assek), Datuk Tiong Thai King (Dudong) and Henry Ling (Kidurong). The sole newcomer from PRS is Stanley Unja for Pelagus.

Meanwhile, All the four leaders of the component parties of Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) will be defending their respective seats in the upcoming April 16 state election.

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is Sarawak BN chairman and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, will be defending his Balingian seat in Mukah. Taib, 74, won uncontested his first state seat in the Sebandi by-election in March, 1981.

He had been Sebandi assemblyman, now known as Asajaya, before moving to the Balingian state constituency in the 2001 state election.

Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president Tan Sri Dr George Chan, 74, who is also Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister, will be defending his Piasau state seat for his seventh term. Chan first won the seat in 1983 (then known as Miri) uncontested.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Seri Dr James Masing will be defending his Baleh seat in Hulu Rajang, also for his seventh term since first winning it in 1983.

As for Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president Datuk Seri William Mawan, he will be defending his Pakan constituency of Julau, which he has won six times consecutively since 1983.

The Election Commission has set April 6 for nomination day. Whether BN will register a 'Ngap Sayot' results this time around as compared to the last poll in 2006, depends on sentiments during the 10-day campaigning period.

FIRST TERM BN POLITICIAN GETS HIS DUE

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 08:15 AM PDT

For a paltry sum of RM2000, Lenggang assemblyman lost his pride and dignity. And for that sum too, a three years jail sentence and a fine of RM20,000 awaits him. That's the sentence pronounced by Session Court Judge on Lenggeng first term BN assemblyman Mustafa Salim. He was charged and found guilty of accepting bribe from a sand mining contractor two years ago, and will be appealing against the sentence.

Najib has said that he shall remain an assemblyman while pending a final appeal and it is unlikely that there will be another by-election, should Mustafa Salim fail in his appeal and goes to jail. Regardless of the final judgment, the pronouncement of his guilt by the Session Court Judge is enough for the assemblyman (if he has any morale left in him) to take immediate leave voluntarily from politics, and all those that uphold honour and dignity does not need to be sympathetic with him; this includes Najib himself. To remain a Yang Berhormat, in light of the sentence meted is a mockery, and I do not need to teach Mustafa Salim what it demands to be called a Yang Berhormat. And I believe Najib would have gain greater respect if he refrains from making any pronouncement concerning this case, least he be construed as showing sympathy and support for a corrupt assemblyman.

In neighbouring Indonesia, it was reported that the Ulama's has decreed that those Muslim corruptors shall not be accorded the customary religious rites upon their death. Some would say that this decree is the extreme that one would accord a dead Muslim. But others would argue that the punishment that awaits corruptors in death is even more severe and unimaginable suffering. I am quite sure all Muslims including Mustafa Salim knows this, but why have corruptors been blind to the fact that Islam forbids the practice of corruption? I am sometimes dumbfounded that Malays today form the majority of those that are involved in corruption, and I say this without inhibition or regret. If this statement of mine were to hurt the Malays (corruptors), then I say that I get a full sense of satisfaction and relief by hurting them, as this is the only language I think they fully understand. And can someone say that I am wrong and outlandish in making such a statement?

Now, what we read of the massive corruption in Sarawak involving a top politician is damning. Yet, nothing is seen to be done, and they say that the top politician goes on to plunder at will. Piles of report concerning this top politician have been made, and what else need to be served in order to get the authorities to commence the investigation. Our top leaders have remained tight-lip and the MACC has been evasive in answering questions relating to the case. The police seems not to know how and where to begin. And for all this, the top Sarawak politician in question walks a free man. I think, this top Sarawak politician has immunity to charges of corruption. Or is he some kind of angel that does no wrong?

Many had asked, "What if it was a top politician from the opposition led state. Will he get the same treatment as the top politician from Sawarak?". Honestly, I am lost for an answer. But taking the example of the treatment that the Kelantan Menteri Besar received from the authorities over the piece of birthday cake and the supposedly free trip to Mecca, then I would say that the entire weight of government i.e. MACC, police, the mainstream media and what have you, will be hounding the top politician till he/she is left high and dry. I cannot imagine what will happen if it were Lim Eng Guan or Khalid Ibrahim? There will surely be lots of protest by predominantly Malay groups that calls for both to resign from their position.

Sadly, this is how Malaysian politics works today………….gutter politics to say the least. And now with the state election in Sarawak drawing near, we hear reports that the military is being used to harass voters into favouring the state government. Hope this report is not true, as this will be fodder for the opposition to whip the state government.

CRUSADE AGAINST CORRUPTION

RM200k for a racquet

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 05:41 AM PDT

With RM200,000, one can either;

A. Buy an apartment
B. Pay up four new Perodua Myvis or a new Peugoet 308 CC (soft-top)
C. Own a brand new shining Harley Davidson Softail Custom 105 Anniversary
D. Get married (again)!

But a good Samaritan decided to spend that amount on the racquet world No 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei used to defend his All-England title recently.

The proceeds will go to the Hope and Smile 3-11 Earthquake and Tsunami fund raising campaign.

The exact amount raised has yet to be revealed. A quick check with the organisers state; "We're in the midst of calculating the overall funds received".

Among the other items auctioned off included;

Chong Wei's yellow jersey which he wore during the All-England final = RM 24,000
Chong Wei's black jersey (which I doubt he) wore during the All-England final = RM 26,000
Another racquet = RM 85,000

Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat played in an exhibition match at Juara Stadium. Chong Wei won 22-20, 19-21, 22-20.

It's all good...in the name of charity.

Astro Arena's Shaukei Kahar even announced - live on tv - NST writer Ajitpal Singh's upcoming wedding dinner on 11 Dec. It was due to a joke Norbakti Alias, Shaukei, Ajitpal and I had shared earlier

HD says: Someone told me that Chong Wei's All-England final racquet was handed to the first lady Rosmah Mansor. Ye ke?

Jambatan Gantung Hampir Siap Dibina Di Galas, Runtuh

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 08:34 AM PDT

Gua Musang: Sebuah jambatan gantung yang hampir siap dibina merentangi Sungai Galas di Kampung Pulai di sini runtuh malam tadi dipercayai akibat hujan lebat. Gambar fail.

Karpal: Screen sex video in Parliament, precedent set in 1992 in relation to the DP Vijandran sex video

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 07:34 AM PDT

Karpal Singh has called on the authorities to screen the Carcosa sex video in Parliament, as Parliamentary immunity will absolve the MPs from any criminal liability and added that there was already a precedent to such a move in 1992 in relation to the DP Vijandran sex video.

"Making the tape available for public viewing certainly falls foul of section 5(1) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 and section 292 of the Penal Code. However, screening the tape within the four walls of Parliament would give it Parliamentary immunity for all Members of Parliament from criminal or any other liability," said Karpal, a veteran lawyer, who is also the Bukit Gelugor MP.

SPRM Mandul Untuk Menyiasat Kes Libatkan Pemimpin UMNO BN

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 06:45 AM PDT

-FMT

I want to be free as a Tumbling Kelly (Pyit Taing Htaung) but not a Puppet (Yoke Thae Yoke) with strings

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 06:03 AM PDT

The puppets (or) marionettes of princes, princesses, clowns, orge, and horses are most common in Myanmar. Usually colored red or golden colour with a white smiling face. I never liked to be pulled up like the Puppets. I hate to see the any powerful authorities' trying to convolute even the nonvisible strings of me, Pyit Taing Htaung. I am always willing to talk back my superiors if they are wrong. I am not a very good obedient person. In Burmese,"Ah Htet Phar-Auk Phi" type of person. I don;t want to show off or give orders to my comrades and subordinates. I will work with them or I work the dirty, difficult and dangerous jobs infront of them so that they willingly participate that TASK to help me.

I don't want to be a Puppet (Yoke Thae Yoke) with strings but always wish to be free like a Tumbling Kelly (Pyit Taing Htaung). I don't care if others kicked me or hit me or discriminate me. I will try always to rise up again as a Phoenix .

Pyit-Taing-Htaung is a Burmese version of weeble. Roughly translates to up-whenever-thrown or "that which always rights itself when thrown down." Usually they come in pairs.

It is a tumbling kelly or billiken. In Myanmar, a person who rises up again and again in the face of all vicissitudes of life is likened to a "pyit-taing-htaung." Pyit Taing Htaung always rights itself when thrown down.

The Burmese traditional toy, Pyit Taing Htaung (Tumbling Kelly ) is made of Papier-mâché (French for 'chewed paper'), It is a composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp, sometimes reinforced with textiles, bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch, or wallpaper paste. but usually colourful and attractive.

These toys are colourful, attractive and are usually sold on the stairways of the Pagodas all over Myanmar. They differ in size, style, idea, meaning and colour. Although these toys are no longer played by the urban children, as the plastic and electronic ones have replaced them. But they are still kept as souvenirs at home especially expatriate Myanmars who visited back their mother land and at tourist souvenir shops. However, in villages and smaller towns across Burma, rural children can still be seen playing with these toys. In addition to these papier-mache toys, earthenware and glazed pottery toys in the stalls at pagoda festivals.

Phoenix (mythology) From Wikipedia

The phoenix (Ancient Greek: Φοῖνιξ, phoínix, Persian: ققنوس, Arabic: العنقاء أو طائر الفينيق, Chinese: 鳳凰 or 不死鳥) is a mythical sacred firebird that can be found in the mythologies of the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Chinese, and (according to Sanchuniathon) Phoenicians.

A phoenix is a mythical bird that is a fire spirit with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (literally "sun-city" in Greek). It is said that the bird's cry is that of a beautiful song. The Phoenix's ability to be reborn from its own ashes implies that it is immortal, though in some stories the new Phoenix is merely the offspring of the older one. In very few stories they are able to change into people.

The Roman poet Ovid wrote the following about the phoenix:

Most beings spring from other individuals; but there is a certain kind which reproduces itself. The Assyrians call it the Phoenix. It does not live on fruit or flowers, but on frankincense and odoriferous gums. When it has lived five hundred years, it builds itself a nest in the branches of an oak, or on the top of a palm tree. In this it collects cinnamon, and spikenard, and myrrh, and of these materials builds a pile on which it deposits itself, and dying, breathes out its last breath amidst odors. From the body of the parent bird, a young Phoenix issues forth, destined to live as long a life as its predecessor. When this has grown up and gained sufficient strength, it lifts its nest from the tree (its own cradle and its parent's sepulchre), and carries it to the city of Heliopolis in Egypt, and deposits it in the temple of the Sun.

French author Voltaire thus described the phoenix:

It was of the size of an eagle, but its eyes were as mild and tender as those of the eagle are fierce and threatening. Its beak was the color of a rose, and seemed to resemble, in some measure, the beautiful mouth of Formosante. Its neck resembled all the colors of the rainbow, but more brilliant and lively. A thousand shades of gold glistened on its plumage. Its feet seemed a mixture of purple and silver; and the tail of those beautiful birds which were afterwards fixed to the car of Juno, did not come near the beauty of its tail.

This figurine has a low center of mass (represented by a bullseye) because it is mostly hollow with a weight at the bottom.
So it is clear that I don't like a CABLE to tie me and order my movement. Even if that were not physical CABLE but INVISIBLE CABAL, I would resist. Even sometimes Pyit Taing Htaung Toys have a string on the "nape of the neck" to hang or to be able to carry aroung. It may be like a CABAL, but I would rather politely refuse the "lifting up of my status" by telling in Burmese,"Pyit Taing Htaung Yoke-Kyo Ma Shoke Chin." I hate to see the any powerful authorities' trying to convolute even the nonvisible strings of me, Pyit Taing Htaung. Please do not try to tangle the strings of the Tumbling Kelly or Pyit Taing Htaung.

A cable is two or more wires running side by side and bonded, twisted or braided together to form a single assembly. In mechanics cables, otherwise known as wire ropes, are used for lifting, hauling and towing or conveying force through tension.

Cabal. From Wikipedia

A cabal is a number of people greater than two, together in some close design, usually to promote their private views and interests in a church, state, or other community, often by intrigue. Cabals are sometimes secret societies composed of a few designing persons, and at other times are manifestations of emergent behavior in society or governance on the part of a community of persons who have well established public affiliation or kinship. The term can also be used to refer to the designs of such persons or to the practical consequences of their emergent behavior, and also holds a general meaning of intrigue and conspiracy. Its usage carries strong connotations of shadowy corners, back rooms and insidious influence; a cabal is more evil and selective than, say, a faction, which is simply selfish; because of this negative connotation, few organizations use the term to refer to themselves or their internal subdivisions. Amongst the exceptions is Discordianism, in which the term is used to refer to an identifiable group within the Discordian religion.

When the figurine is pushed, the height of the center of mass rises from the green line to the orange line, and the center of mass is no longer over the point of contact with the ground.

Okiagari-koboshi from Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima

Okiagari-koboshi. From Wikipedia, Okiagari-koboshi or Okiagari-kobōshi (起き上がり小法師?, getting-up little priest) is a Japanese traditional doll. The toy is made from papier-mâché and is designed so that its weight causes it to return to an upright position if it is knocked over.[1] Okiagari-koboshi is considered a good-luck charm and a symbol of perseverance and resilience.

Okiagari-koboshi has long been popular among Japanese children. It is mentioned in a 14th-century play called Manju-Kui,[3] and folklorist Lafcadio Hearn recorded a lullaby from Matsue in Izumo Province in the early 20th century that lists the doll as a gift for a young child:

Nenneko, nenneko nenneko ya!
Kono ko nashite naku-yara?
O-chichi ga taranuka? — o-mama ga taranuka?
Ima ni ototsan no ōtoto no o-kaeri ni
Ame ya, o-kwashi ya, hii-hii ya,
Gara-gara, nagureba fuito tatsu
Okiagarikoboshi! —
Neneko, neneko, nenneko ya!

Translated, it says:

Sleep, sleep, sleep, little one!
Why does the child continue to cry?
Is the milk deficient? — is the rice deficient?
Presently when father returns from the great Lord's palace,
Ame will be given to you, and also cake, and a hii-hii likewise,
And a rattle as well, and an okiagarikoboshi
That will stand up immediately after being thrown down.

Daruma doll of the okiagari-koboshi type

One kind of Daruma doll works on the same principle as okiagari-koboshi and is sometimes referred to by that name; whenever it is thrown down, it rights itself.[7] This depiction of the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma likely arose in connection with a legend that says that he once meditated for nine years, which caused his legs to either atrophy or fall off.[8] A 17th-century children's song shows that the okiagari-koboshi Daruma dolls of the time were almost identical to their modern equivalents:

Hi ni! fu ni!
Fundan Daruma ga
Akai zukin kaburi sunmaita!

Once! twice!
Ever the red-hooded Daruma
Heedlessly sits up again!

A wooden roly-poly toy

Roly-poly toy. From Wikipedia.

A roly-poly toy, tilting doll, tumbler or wobbly man is a toy that rights itself when pushed over. The bottom of a roly-poly toy is round, roughly a hemisphere. It has a center of mass below the center of the hemisphere, so that any tilting raises the center of mass. When such a toy is pushed over, it wobbles for a few moments while it seeks the upright orientation, which has an equilibrium at the minimum gravitational potential energy.

The toy can represent a person, an animal, or anything else. Different toy manufacturers and different cultures produce different-looking roly-poly toys: the okiagari-koboshi and some types of Daruma doll of Japan, the nevаlashka or vanka-vstanka of Russia,[1][2] and Playskool's Weebles. Traditional Chinese examples are hollow clay figures of plump children, but "many Chinese folk artists shape their tumblers in the image of clownish mandarins as they appear on stage; in this way they mock the inefficiency and ineptitude of the bureaucrats".[3]

A toy manufacturer recommends roly-poly toys for small children just developing motor skills; a child can bat at it without its rolling away.[4]

Most roly-poly toys are hollow, with a weight inside the bottom. A Gömböc is a roly-poly toy made of a uniformly dense material, where only the shape of the top half makes the center of mass below the center of the hemisphere.

Dynamogene Theater stages a performance called "Monsieur Culbuto", allowing the audience to interact with a human dressed as a roly-poly toy.[5][6]

The Noddy stories by Enid Blyton have characters Mr. and Mrs Wobblyman, who are based on this sort of roly-poly toy.

Weeble. From Wikipedia.

Weebles is a trademark for several lines of children's roly-poly toys originating in Hasbro's Playskool division on July 23, 1971. Shaped like eggs with a weight at the fat, or bottom end, they wobble when pushed, but never fall completely over, hence the name and the slogan "weebles wobble, but they don't fall down." Some Weebles were designed to look like humans. The "Weebleville" series of 2004 and 2005 looked more like anthropomorphic animals, but the "Storybook World" series of 2006 has returned to more humanlike faces for the figures.

The popular catchphrase, "Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down", was used in advertising during their rise in popularity in the 1970s and during the relaunch in the 2000s.

A wide range of accessories were available for the Weebles including vehicles, buildings and furniture. Some sets had a theme to them, such as the Weebles circus set.

Murid kena pukul meninggal, penyelia asrama ditahan

- BERNAMA

Ulasan GB

Innalillahi wainna ilahi rajiun.

Politics & not public interest, has always been priority of Umno-led BN govt

Lim: Putting public interest first ahead of political interest has always been the governing creed of the Penang PR state government.
GEORGE TOWN, April 3 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today public interest and not politics is his Pakatan Rakyat (PR) administration's motto, tossing out the likelihood that the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition could win back the state in the next polls.
But the first-term CM said the state PR would not rest on its laurels and would work redouble its efforts to improve service and counter the BN's challenge.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who had dropped in on the island state yesterday, declared the BN would wrest back Penang in the coming general elections, anticipated to be called later this year ahead of its 2013 due date.
Najib, who is also BN president, told reporters that during his day-long walkabout, many locals especially small-time traders had complained of discrimination by the ruling PR state government in business and economic terms, as well as being sidelined for facilities, compared to when BN was in power.
"Putting public interest first ahead of political interest has always been the governing creed of the Penang PR state government," Lim said in a statement today, refuting allegations of bias.
He said the Penang government treats and enforces the laws equally, and pointed to the state's booming economy, which he said had lifted investments to a record high of RM12.2 billion topping the national chart and created more jobs.
"The Penang PR state government will not compete with the federal government in improving the lives of the people as long as there is a public benefit," he added.
Lim repeated his previous stance yesterday that his administration would willingly work with Putrajaya so long as the public benefits.
"That is the principal reason why the Penang state government shelved our completed Penang Blueprint for Industrial Masterplan 2011-2015 in favour of the proposed Greater Penang Masterplan by the federal government," he stressed.

2 Pegawai SPRM Muaturun & Tonton Video Lucah Di Pejabat. Kenapa Tiada Tindakan?

Teguran Sinis Suruhanjaya Ibarat Leteran Emak

-mstar

Dua pegawai SPRM muat turun bahan lucah

Kilang Pertamina Cilacap Kebakaran, Pemadaman Melalui Udara

Ahad, 03 April 2011 11:06 WIB

Selain Minyak, Balak, Gas & Tanah, Di Sarawak Juga Ada Banyak Buaya - Guan Eng

Posted: 03 Apr 2011 01:26 AM PDT

"Lagipun, mereka (Taib and Chan) adalah menantu.

"Jika awak mahu Taib pergi, awak mesti pastikan BN ditewaskan,"
katanya.

Nurul Izzah, 30, said she started playing the guitar when her father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim bought her the instrument for doing well in SPM.

"I wanted to learn to play the guitar ever since I was young but my father rarely bought me gifts," she said, adding that "he bought me a guitar when I passed my SPM with flying colours."

Yesterday's 12-hour event was organised by the Bar Council in partnership with non-govern-mental organisations Frinjan and Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia.

It carried the message of the importance of elections and democracy to youngsters aged 18 to 35.
