For nine months Sarawak Report has been looking for Farok Majeed, last heard of working out of Sydney for the Chief Minister's brother Onn Mahmud.  We have been unable to trace Mr Majeed since he disappeared in the middle of a court case in which he was suing Onn Mahmud for over $15 million Australian Dollars.
Our previous report detailed how Farok was billing Onn Mahmud for "development and management" work on Australia's most expensive ever penthouse deal.  The court case also detailed numerous

Barry Wain reviews "A Doctor…"

BOOK REVIEW Throughout his public life, Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been almost predictably unpredictable.

He has delighted in being a maverick, breaking the rules whenever they appeared to make no sense, or got in his way. It was often politically risky and required courage, but it also glorified his image and caught his rivals off balance at times, opening opportunities that Mahathir seized. His 843-page book, 'A Doctor in the House: The Memoirs of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad', falls into this pattern.

At 85 years of age, Malaysia's longest-serving Prime Minister might be expected to reflect on the past, answer critics while underlining his achievements, mull unmet goals and mistakes, and no doubt settle a few scores but generally make peace with adversaries.

Not Mahathir. A polemicist to the end, he ignores much of the documented criticism levelled against him and his policies during 22 years as premier. He indulges in selective memory and advances a host of dubious propositions, while taking the credit for what he sometimes – though not always – deserves.

Like his spectacularly broken promise to stay out of politics after retirement in 2003, this book will do little to enhance Mahathir's reputation among researchers, analysts and informed readers.

But his ardent fans – who admire him for putting Malaysia on the world map, for his can-do approach to development and for his sheer cussedness – will love him all the more for thumbing his nose once again at convention.

Like a long political speech, Mahathir's book contains almost no supporting evidence, not even self-serving official reports, despite any number of loose assertions that require substantiation. The text is also peppered with factual errors and contradictions.

Imaginary Allegations

The harsh conclusion must be that sections of the book can best be described as faction – a word derived from "fact" and "fiction" – which is a literary genre that depicts real historical figures and actual events woven together with imaginary allegations.

For example, Mahathir claims that "eventually a group of Malay contractors was persuaded to build and operate" the North-South Expressway. Actually, United Engineers (Malaysia) Bhd did not take much persuading. The company was controlled – secretly, for a time – by his UMNO and given the contract to build the road and collect the tolls for 30 years to secure the ruling party's financial base.

Mahathir's contention that "nothing of significance resulted from" his first official visit to the United States in 1984 is no less egregious. In fact, in Washington, Mahathir approved the Bilateral Training and Consultation (Bitac) agreement, which was effectively a secret security pact.

It provided for US naval ship visits, joint military exercises and American training in Malaysia, and the establishment of facilities to repair transport aircraft and small vessels. Bitac, still undisclosed, makes a mockery of Mahathir's loudly proclaimed opposition to the US military presence in Southeast Asia.

Equally flagrant is Mahathir's claim that the dispute over Malaysia's railway land in Singapore is deadlocked, and likely to get further entangled in complications over plans for a so-called crooked, or half, bridge he proposed to replace the Causeway.

When he finally realises that the matter was settled by the leaders of both countries last year, he is going to get even angrier. His beloved crooked bridge is not part of the settlement, which is being implemented by a joint team.

Having presided over a socio-economic transformation, lessening Malaysia's dependence on commodities and deepening its industrialisation, Mahathir is entitled to claim considerable success. Driven hard by him, the country became the envy of the developing world, a favourite destination of foreign investment and an export dynamo.

A striking reduction in poverty and increasing affluence gave Malaysia the look and feel of a sophisticated, prosperous country, with a greatly expanded middle-class that included significant numbers of Malays.

Understandably, Mahathir takes pride in the North-South Expressway, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and some of the other physical infrastructure that would not exist without his obsession with creating a modern, fully developed and respected nation.

Incredible Claims

But sometimes he is too eager to declare victory. For instance, he pronounces himself satisfied with Malaysia's state-led stampede into heavy industry, even though the major elements of it, which he personally selected, floundered.

PROTON, the national car, is uncompetitive and doomed unless rescued by a global auto manufacturer. PERWAJA, the steelmaker, swallowed a fortune before being practically given away to a private operator in the late 1990s. And a cement factory on Langkawi also racked up losses and had to be sold during the Asian Financial Crisis.

Despite the hands-on style that characterised his rule, Mahathir presents himself as somehow above the vicious, increasingly corrupt jungle of Malay – specifically UMNO – politics. Large-scale vote buying invaded UMNO in 1986, but "unfortunately" he could not stop it, though he managed to resist unspecified "attempts to corrupt me".

As UMNO president, Mahathir says he seldom tried to influence party elections, and "saw no great need to campaign" even when challenged for the leadership by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in 1987. "If I did involve myself, it was with a general, not a personal, objective," he says.

In reality, Mahathir secretly backed Musa Hitam against Razaleigh to be his deputy in 1981. After that, his open support for Musa ahead of another challenge by Razaleigh provoked widespread unhappiness that boiled over at the UMNO General Assembly in 1983.

With this sort of dissembling, readers may be "incredulous", as Mahathir concedes, when it comes to accepting his version of critical events.

Notably, readers are asked to believe that he, the elected leader of a constitutional monarchy, sacked the Lord President of the Supreme Court, Salleh Abas, in 1988 for no other reason than the Agong asked him to. Then, Mahathir says he had to overcome his "personal doubts and feelings" and defer to the "expertise of the Police" when detaining 119 people in Operation Lalang in 1987.

Corruption and Cronyism

As for his children, "They did not directly benefit from my years as Prime Minister." Perhaps not, though having a politically dominant father in an era whose hallmarks were corruption and cronyism was clearly no handicap. According to a recent edition of Forbes Asia, Mokhzani Mahathir, 50, is the 15th richest Malaysian, worth a cool US$560 million.

Mahathir is proud that he always insisted on looking into details, "taking care of the pennies", as he puts it. The trouble is that the pounds slipped through his fingers – and often into someone's pocket.

While he admits losses of "some RM600 million" in Malaysia's ill-fated attempt to manipulate the international price of tin in 1981, Mahathir shrinks from putting a price on three other world-class financial scandals that marred his tenure.

Foreign exchange speculation by Bank Negara in the early 1990s, which he concedes was a "second mistake" in the management of the country's finances, cost an estimated RM23 billion. PERWAJA, bled from within, lost RM15 billion or more, while the former state-owned Bank Bumiputra, routinely abused for years, dropped at least RM10 billion as it was bailed out four times. The total, RM50 billion or so in direct losses, would easily double if a full professional accounting were made.

Qalbu Tidak Menjadi Lidah

Ketika qalbumu tidak menjadi lidah,
lidahmu pula enggan menjadi suara,
apakah tugasmu masih satu ibadah
atau ia sekadar, ya, sekadar kerja?

Ketika janji manismu amat berdegah,
nasib bangsa dijanji kemerlip permata;
dikau tampaknya semakin bersilap mata—
ekuiti gergasi jadi sekangkang kera.

Lima dekad kau leka enak berkuasa,
tiba-tiba kau sengaja menjerit parah.
Katamu: "Bangsamu sedang terhasak hina."
Soalnya, kenapa kau yang memungkinkannya?

Ketika undimu terhimpun sangat sasa,
dan undi itu dikira sesedap rasa,
apakah tugasmu sebagai penguasa—
takek bahasa dan gunting lidah sastera?

Lima dekad dikau dewa segala dewa,
harum kasturi di dalam hanyir piala;
qalbumu mungkin berjaya menjadi lidah,
cuma, apakah tulus menjadi ibadah?

Hong Kong: I Love Mong Kok, Tai Kok Tsui and Sai Yeung Choi Street South

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 09:21 AM PDT

Hello people. How's your weekend doing? I am feeling tired because I slept late last night. Haha, to be exact is sleepy, but I feel like writing a blog now so today I want to bring you to Hong Kong again. Mong Kok, Tai Kok Tsui and place near there. =D So previously, I went to Western Market, after that I went back to North Point to meet my brother.

After meeting with my brother, we didn't want to waste more time in the hotel. We went to Kowloon right away, to Mongkok, to Tai Kok Tsui to meet my aunty at her restaurant. Tai Kok Tsui is somewhere near to Mongkok which is not accessible by MTR, though foot would be fine for us.

Alight at Mong Kok station. Mong Kok stands for busy corner in Cantonese.

Nice HSBC Screen. =)

Few years back, we didn't really know the way to my aunty's place. My aunty runs a restaurant at Tai Kok Tsui and so we took the cab there. But now we knew the way around and we tried walking there, actually it's not really far, only 15-20 minutes of walk, and the cooling weather didn't make us feel uncomfortable.

Sleepy face Yikhung brother.

Nice crossing.

While on the way to Tai Kok Tsui from Mong Kok, we passed by many shops and malls and also stopped by for some bubble tea break. Bubble tea was nice and the feeling of the bubbles jelly were different, it's more chewy. =D

Dropped by at Langham Place to check out the shopping mall and it's a nice shopping place for the youngs one because the shops inside are cater for people like us. It's a super big mall but then the way of shopping is going up and has like 11-12 floors of shopping. There's many nice stuff to check out and truly recommend this place for shopping. There's a big H&M on the ground level too.

Then we continue our way and passed by a market that I have been to before 3 years back. It's still the same, still that many people on the street shopping for food and fruits in the afternoon.

Tai Kok Tsui

One weird thing about Hong Kong's weather when compare to Malaysian's weather is that I didn't really see the sun, it's hazy and always block the view of the round egg yolk-ish sun.

And we reached Pak Lam Restaurant! My aunty's Hong Kong's style restaurant. =) Had our lunch and afternoon tea at there and we were really very full after that cause she just keep serving us food non-stop. Haha. We spent like two hours in the restaurant talking with aunty and uncle.

We got to know that operating a restaurant in Hong Kong is not easy because there will be no break and rental is so freaking expensive. People coming in and out nonstop from morning till night and the restaurant is so small.

Pak Lam Restaurant, Tai Kok Tsui.

After saying good bye to uncle and aunty, we went back to Mongkok and proceed to shopping on Sai Yeung Choi Street, the most happenings street in Kowloon.

I guess I'll like the photo speaks. =D Construction site are nice to be photographed, ohh yum yum delicious construction site. =D

Small little super small petrol station.

Sai Yeung Choi Street South

And here we go, we came back to Sai Yeng Choi Street South, Mongkok area. The most happenings electronic and clothing street in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Full of people, a street that vehicle cannot go through and it's people everywhere on the street, students, worker, shoppers, tourists, anyone! I really like this happening street a lot. Especially the neon signboards and LED screen, real awesome. It's really a piece of art.

Handsome brother, we don't look alike though.

Construction site!

One thing that I always saw in Hong Kong is people having a chair in the middle of the road taking up a board writing "buying second hand gadget in high price", meaning they want your phone and gadget and willing to buy from you. I think some black market are running this, they are everywhere and I am sure people in need of money will go and look for them.

Well, the acid throwing incident that happened in the movie 72 Tenants of Prosperity that shown last year is true that the movie talk about life on this Sai Yeung Choi Street and there's people throwing acid fluid from rooftop. Really very dangerous.

Awesome. If Penang do have such street, it sure fail, because it's too hot here. Perhaps they could make an roof for it, then it will be damn awesome. Haha. Mong Kok rocks to the max man!

Dr. Pornthip Pertahankan Hujahnya Teoh Mati Dicekik

Pornthip: 'Teoh Beng Hock dicekik sebelum jatuh'

Pakar patologi Thai, Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand bersependapat dengan pakar forensik Britain Prof Dr Peter Vanezis bahawa Teoh Beng Hock masih bernyawa.

* dicekik dengan menggunakan tangan,

* leher mangsa dipukul dengan objek tumpul,

* ataupun leher mangsa ditekan kepada objek atau kedua-duanya sekali.

Govt to bear 80% repaint cost Offer extended to all state-owned flats

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 09:14 AM PDT

THE Penang Government is offering to bear 80% of the cost of repainting the exterior of state-owned high-rise flats with residents footing the balance money.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state government made the decision after receiving requests from residents that their flats were in dire need of a fresh coat of paint.

"The state will bear a substantial amount of money for the repainting work.

"I hope flat residents and their Community Development and Security Committee (JKKK) will meet to discuss the offer and get back to the state quickly, hopefully by end of the year," he said during a visit to Kampung Melayu flats in Air Itam on Thursday.

Lim said the repainting of the two blocks of Kampung Melayu would cost RM600,000. There are a total of 966 units there.
In need of a facelift: The repainting of two blocks of Kampung Melayu flats in Air Itam would cost RM600,000.

He added that even though repainting work was not as urgent as upgrading of basic infrastructure, the state was willing to bear the cost.

"In 2009, the state began allocating at least RM10mil a year for the upgrading of facilities at the 15,000 state-owned units but the budget did not include repainting work.

"Before the new state government took over, there was no such allocation," he said.

For Kampung Melayu, Lim said the state spent about RM467,500 last year to undertake 13 upgrading works like rewiring of electricity cable in the units and corridors, replacing cast iron pipes, replacing rain pipes and re-attaching waste nozzle cap.

"Since we have done all these, we hope residents will pay up the more than RM150,000 maintenance arrears and about RM3,000 rental arrears," he said.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said there were 45 state-owned housing projects including terrace houses.

Wong, who is also Air Itam assemblyman, said the upgrading work at the Kampung Melayu flats undertaken this year included resurfacing of road and car park area, rewiring of electricity cable at Block A and replacing three lifts at the same block.

Meanwhile, Lim announced that the state government would repair the roof of a low-cost flat which was damaged by strong winds in Taman Bukit Minyak, Bukit Mertajam several days ago.

He said the state would fork out more than RM200,000 for the purpose.

"Those affected will be provided temporary housing till repair works are completed.

"The Penang Water Supply Corporation will also repair the water tank in the flat which was damaged during the storm," he said.

On Monday, strong winds blew off the roofs of more than 200 houses in three districts in Kedah and two in Penang.

Wardina Kongsi Tips Latih Anaknya Lekat Solat 5 Waktu.

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 09:46 AM PDT

Dear Mama, Ummi, Mum, Ibu, Bonda...

I have to share this with you... because i feel so happy and i feel that all my penat lelah paid off... I started to make my Amna to solat 5 times a day when she was 7, on her 7th birthday... we had a talk... (check note lama) tapi preparation since 6 la...

tapi dari kecik memang selalu ikut2 la kami solat.... she hasnt missed her solat since. Walaupun lambat, tetap solat. I made sure of that - because the key is SOLAT ni kalau tak tanam dari kecik memang LIAT nanti.... But it is very important to keep this in mind:-

1) kalau kita bagi dia tinggal WALAUPUN sekali nanti we are sending the wrong signal - kena make sure - every waktu without fail, walaupun penat, ataupun lambat

2)l Selalu kalau boleh solat together..mula2 memang kena solat together....kalau tak ada rumah make sure an adult in the house pastikan anak kita solat. (hari tu Amna pergi her reading class, i asked her teacher to take her to the surau) -lepas solat time tu lah peluk cium, senyum - i always kiss her at the head and say "Barakallahufiha" Ya Allah make my Amna a good Muslim Ya Allah....make her never miss her solat Ya Allah.....kuat2 bagi dia dengar....

ps:- kalau kena amik cuti ambillah - bukan waktu exam je amik cuti - buatlah STEP ini, yakni melangkah ke alam 7 thaun dan tidak meninggalkan solat A BIG Thing! "mama amik cuti hari ni sebab nak pastikan yang adik solat 5 waktu sehari!"

3)Selalu cerita how IMPORATANT it is to solat..how Allah is watching us... how we are good Muslims when we solat, how Allah loves us, Solat tu, untuk kita, bukan untuk Allah.....TAPI selalu jugak cerita yang akan ada orang TAK solat...acknowledge the fact that sometimes we feel lazy to solat....itu semua kerja SETAN! Fight them off....! I tell Amna that even some grown ups tak solat! I tell Amna that....we have to be strong.. we have to tell ourselves we will NEVER miss our solat.....

4)Awal2 subuh ni memang tak bangunkan, tapi as soon as dia bangun pagi, ill ask her to solat straight away.(yes memang leceh..but we have to, and we have to do it with LOVE diselang seli dgn strictness)

5)kalau dia tinggal - DENGAN sengaja, i take the rotan and hit her on her tapak tangan slowly, just as a reminder. After that i hug her and tell her i love her, and i just want her to remember - and guess what?? memang dia ingat!!! (3 kali baru, i think not bad, sampai satu hari dia terlambat solat, sebab keluar dan memang tak ingat, dia yang suruh rotan) But i tell her kalau TERLUPA atau TERTIDUR its ok...but kena solat terus bila bangun.

Macam ni ceritanya, i told Amna, kalau Ummi ambik Amna dari sekolah lambat, Amna solat dulu Asar kat sekolah....tadi memang datang lambat... i was loking for her..and guess what????

She was actually praying her Asar prayers... sorang je kat dalam surau tu.... i wanted to pengsan and cry... she did all by herself.... i pun told her how happy and how proud i was of her... i tanya dia kenapa? dia kata "Amna ingat apa Ummi cakap"..... cair nya hatiku ini.

Apa lagi, Ummi ni peluk cium dia.... and called nenek at Australia... now im sharing with all of you!!! Because i want us to raise generation of good Muslims that are disciplined, smart, intelligent -that remembers Allah because the world so BADLY needs good QUALITY Muslims like this!!!

And the foundation is - to start them off right - solat at SEVEN! Yes just as how Rasulullah asked us!I love you all!!! Good night..... But the key to all this IS Mak Ayah KENA dan WAJIB solat dulu...anak ketam tak boleh diajar berjalan terus...fahamkan? -fb wardina

Ten Lessons from Japan

1. THE CALM
Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been elevated.

2. THE DIGNITY
Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

3. THE ABILITY
The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn't fall.

4. THE GRACE
People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.

5. THE ORDER
No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.

6. THE SACRIFICE
Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid?

7. THE TENDERNESS
Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak.

8. THE TRAINING
The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.

9. THE MEDIA
They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

10. THE CONSCIENCE
When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly!

Teoh Lee Lan, sister of deceased Malaysian political aide Teoh Beng Hock bursts into tears while talking to media at the Shah Alam Criminal court in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on January 5, 2011. A Malaysian coroner probing the mysterious death of an opposition aide Teoh Beng Hock, who fell to his death from the offices of the anti-corruption agency, recorded an open verdict today. Azmil Muntapha Abas said there was not enough evidence to prove either homicide or suicide in the case of Teoh.

Teoh Lee Lan, 30, the sister of Teoh Beng Hock, cries as she talks to journalists at the courthouse in Shah Alam outside Kuala Lumpur January 5, 2011. A court in Malaysia on Wednesday said that it could not determine whether the 2009 death of an ethnic Chinese opposition official Teoh was due to homicide or suicide. The open verdict delivered by the court threatens to raise political tensions in the Southeast Asian country.

Malaysiakini…

Teoh alive during fall, says Dr Pornthip

Teoh Beng Hock masih hidup ketika ia jatuh hampir sepuluh tingkat – Dr Pornthip

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Teoh Beng Hock was alive when he had fallen nearly ten floors, Thai forensic pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand told the royal panel investigating his death today.

But Dr Pornthip said she could not determine if the DAP political aide was conscious during his fatal plunge in 2009 outside the then Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam.

"He was alive on landing," she told the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) today.

Dr Pornthip also said Teoh's state of consciousness could not be determined based on the fractures in his feet.

"Landing on (the) feet means nothing… I cannot go to that conclusion (that he was conscious when he fell)," said the flamboyant forensic expert.malaysian insider

Teoh fully conscious during fall — Expert

Teoh masih hidup dan sedar sepenuhnya ketika ia jatuh – Prof Dr Peter Vanezis

KUALA LUMPUR: A British forensic expert reiterated before the Commission of Inquiry investigating Teoh Beng Hock's death that the political aide was fully conscious when he fell from the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on July 16, 2009.

"I am certain in my own mind, Teoh was alive and conscious when he fell. In my view, all the injuries I had seen on his body was the result of a fall from height," said Prof Dr Peter Vanezis.

In his first testimony during an inquest at the Shah Alam magistrate's court last year, he had testified that by referring to injuries found on Teoh's body, it indicated the victim had attempted to break his fall, prior to hitting the ground.

He explained that the injuiries sustained by the victim also revealed they were distributed around the body and appearances on the surface were typical of a fall from height.

Teoh, 30, political aide to Selangor state exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the fifth floor corridor of Plaza Masalam, after giving his statement at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office located on the 14th floor of the same building.

Previously, Dr Vanezis had disagreed with Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand that marks (around the neck) were signs of strangulation or blunt force being applied, which could have rendered Teoh unconscious or caused his death.

Questioned by Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, acting for the MACC, on whether the bruises found on Teoh's neck were consistent with a typical case of strangulation, Dr Vanezis said he did not rule out the possibility of some kind of 'neck lock' that could have caused the bruises.

The expert also told the inquiry that the first post-mortem on the deceased, without doubt, would provide a better result as compared to the second (post-mortem).

He explained that on the second post-mortem, one was examining a body that had already been dissected and that there might be deterioration on the
body.

"It would be more difficult to take samples from the second post-mortem as even the samples might have deteriorated, and the existing bruises on the body could have become darker, causing misleading
details.

"These are such areas that could provide profound difficulties," said Dr Vanezis.

Earlier, Dr Shahidan Md Noor, of the Sungai Buloh Hospital, also stated that the first post-mortem on July 17, 2009, was more reliable since the body was fresh and more evidence could have been gathered as compared to the second post-mortem on Nov 22, 2009.

Dr Shahidan conducted the second post-mortem on the deceased, together with Dr Pornthip and Dr Vanezis.

At the end of the proceedings, inquiry panel chairman Federal Court judge Tan Sri James Foong Cheng Yuen thanked Dr Vanezis for his cooperation.

"On behalf of the commision, I would like to say 'thank you' and have a safe journey," he said.

The inquiry panel members also included former Federal Court judge Datuk Abdul Kadir Sulaiman, former Appeals Court judge Datuk T Selventhiranathan, Penang Hospital's forensic pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh and the dean of Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences, Prof Dr Mohamed Hatta Shaharom. — Bernama

Najib Pembela YB Rasuah

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 05:43 AM PDT

Video Seks Datuk T Itu Hitam Putih Jadi Tandatanya

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 07:31 AM PDT

Dua puluh empat jam serius. Tetapi dia masih ingat kisah-kisah lucu zaman bujang ketika sama-sama menyewa rumah di Jalan Raja Uda, Kampung Baru.

Dia belanja saya pagi itu. Sambil makan kita bercakap mengenai topik semasa paling hangat – video.

Malu saya kalau mereka tahu!

-SH

Upcoming Activities…

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 06:30 AM PDT

3 months passed by so quickly. We now have 3 more months to our Family Day (it's usually held on the first Sunday of August, but since August this year is fasting month, we've decided to have it on the first Sunday of July instead), and based on how fast the first 3 months of the year seemed to fly, we figured it's time to start planning for our Family Day immediately.

Before that, there are quite a number of activities we have to plan for. On the 17th of April, we're taking up an exhibition booth during the "Men Against Violence" campaign to be held at Dewan Serbaguna Chenderong. On the 23rd of April, we're taking up a booth during the Open Day of UniKL-RCMP here in Ipoh. I will also be giving a talk to the students on that very same day. Then, on the 29th of April, there will be a PLHIV gathering at Hospital Ipoh, sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. Actually a medical rep approached the doctor at the HIV clinic about the matter, and the doctor approached me to help organise the gathering. The pharmaceutical company pays… the HIV clinic staff takes care of the place and ordering the food etc, while we Buddies help to invite the PLHIVs and to organise the do. At the same time, I was also been offered 4 free places for "my children" to participate in a Leadership Camp to be held from 30th April – 2nd May.

So yeah, I've been doing lots of calling and running around. On Thursday, I went over to the HIV clinic to discuss with the staff nurse about the PLHIV gathering. I needed to be sure what we needed to do. So yeah, who's doing what is now settled.

Back from the HIV Clinic, I started calling/texting my clients to inform them about the gathering. I also approached 3 of my clients with children in forms 3, 4 and 5, asking if their children would like to join the leadership camp. Managed to get Sofie's 2 older sons (forms 3 and 5), Fuzi's form 4 daughter, and Aini's form 5 daughter. 2 girls and 2 boys. Perfect! Since I only got the forms for the camp on Thursday itself, I needed to visit these clients to get the children and their mothers to sign the form.

So on Friday afternoon, first I went to visit Fuzi. I purposely went in the afternoon so that Wina, the daughter would be home to sign the form. When I got there, Fuzi's 2 younger sons, Ijam and Iwan were playing outside. "Tak sekolah ke?" I asked Ijam, knowing that his school session is in the afternoon. Fuzi said he complained earlier that he wasn't feeling too well.

Anyway, Wina immediately filled in the form and signed it. She also helped to fill in the section for the guardian's permission. All Fuzi had to do was to just sign. She didn't even bother to read what she was signing.

After leaving Fuzi's house, I immediately  headed to Sofie's house. However, her 2 older boys were not home so I couldn't get them to fill in the form immediately. So I just left the form with Sofie and told her I'd get the forms from her when I bring Saiful to get his glasses which should be ready by early next week. (Just as I'm typing this out, a call came in on my handphone… "Akak, cermin mata anak akak dah siap dah." Nasib baik tak sempat nak cakap salah nombor, terus teringat it's Saiful's.)

This morning, after my usual pasar tani routine, I went over to Aini's house to get her daughter to sign the form for the camp. Unlike the 2 younger boys, the girl is not the type who likes to go out on weekends, so she was home. I managed to get her to fill in and sign the form on the spot.

2 forms filled in and signed. Now just to get the forms from Sofie's sons. I should be getting them when I fetch Saiful to bring him to get his new pair of glasses.

Later today, I went over to the center to meet up with a few fellow volunteers before going together to the suggested venue of our coming Family Day in July. Since we had never been to the place before, we figured it would be best if we could look around first to be able to decide on what kind of activities we should plan for the day.

I so love the place. So beautiful and serene. All 4 of us who went today agreed it was a perfect choice for this year's Family Day.

Now to raise funds for the event…

Not 1 but 2 MACC men watched porn. Not 2 but 3 Datuk Ts 'produced porn'!

April 02, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — An anti-graft officer watched pornography on his office computer hours before Teoh Beng Hock was found dead, the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) investigating Teoh's death said today.
The RCI secretariat released today its special investigator's analysis of Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer Raymond Nion's computer and the computers belonging to five other anti-graft officers.
The RCI revealed last Thursday that Selangor MACC assistant superintendent Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus had also viewed pornography on his office computer in the wee hours of July 16, 2009, after interviewing Teoh.
"Raymond Nion... Access to pornography sites, movies, music," said RCI special investigator Michael Leslie Squires in his interim report today.
"Used for access to Internet browsing overnight on 16/07/2009," he added.
Keeping and distributing pornography is an offence in Malaysia.
Ashraf has said he and another MACC officer, Arman Alies, had interviewed Teoh from 10.30pm on July 15, 2009 to 12.30am the following day.
Teoh's body was found hours later on the fifth-floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after the interview at the then-Selangor MACC headquarters on the 14th floor.
The anti-graft officers were investigating a claim that Teoh's boss, Ean Yong Hian Wah, was abusing state funds.
Ean Yong is a Selangor state executive councillor and Seri Kembangan assemblyman from the DAP.

Lawrence Arthur Collard Parr

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 04:33 AM PDT

It is with utter sadness that I learn of the passing of yet another chess pal, Larry Parr, this morning at 6.52am. Larry was a friend and familiar sight to many chess players, both abroad and in Malaysia. I first got to know him in the mid-1970s when he used to turn up at events organised by the Chess Association of Selangor. In the last 20 years or so, I would never fail to see him at chess tournaments whenever I went to Kuala Lumpur.

For a while, Larry was the editor of the U.S. chess magazine, Chess Life, and he contributed to this magazine right until the end of his days. For many years, he was working with Dato Tan Chin Nam and he co-authored Tan's autobiography, Never Say I Assume.

Larry was born in Seattle, USA on 21 May 1946 and he studied at Washington University. He had been warded at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre this past month. His family (wife Samboon, daughter Christiana and son Ian) were with him when he died. I understand that Larry's remains will be cremated and his ashes taken back to Seattle for burial.

Larry, I shall miss all your wonderful stories....

PARTNERS IN POLITICS AND BUSINESS TOO!

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 06:03 AM PDT

Mohammad Ali Mahmud - the CM's YB businessman brother!

Corrupt Barisan Nasional - Another Mahmud brother, another land grabber!  Taib was hardly going to leave his brother Ali out of the party.  After all Mohammad Ali bin Mahmud, is also slaving away as a State YB for Muara Tuang and a stalwart of Taib's PBB (part of BN).
However, Ali has clearly been anxious to disguise his involvement in the land grabs.  Could it be that he thinks that it could be regarded as wrong by his voting constituents?

Most other records in the land registry put the contact name and details clearly into the section where these are requested.  However, Ali just slipped in a telephone number for the company Tabaruk Abadi, which was registered in 2007 as having taken over 5,000 hectares in Sri Aman for oil plantation.
As an attempt at a disguise however, this was fairly blundering.  The number matches the one advertised for him on the website for people's representatives!  Likewise, the address for the company Tabaruk Abadi matches the address given for him on the people's representatives website, which is that of his company Mohd Ali Holding Sdn Bhd.
Tabaruk Abadi - the address and telephone number matches Taib's brother's!
Political allies join in business too
But it is not just Mohammad who is doing well out of Tabaruk Abadi, a company which has acquired numerous plantation lands over the years.  His close political ally the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Mohd Asfia Awg Nassar, is also a fellow shareholder in the business.  Handily for the two politicians the Welfare Board of Kota Samarahan has also engaged in the business, providing a good source of state funding for their enterprises!
Brothers in politics, partners in business!
With his wife Datin Fatimah, Mohammad owns 13,000 shares, the lion's share for the Mahmud family, of course. Yet, the two men are clearly close allies.  In fact Asfia named his son after Mohammad Ali.  It is clearly a partnership that has done him well, as he is now Parliamentary speaker and one of Taib's inner circle.  It goes without saying that he has an extremely large house.  This demonstrates that once again wealth and success in Sarawak relies on talent – talent in sucking up to the Mahmud family that is.
Speaker and plantation owner Mohamad Asfia bin Awg Nassar's grand residence
And so, of course, does his business partner and fellow YB, Taib's brother Mohammad Ali have a very nice big house too! (see below).
Wealthy YBs - access to those plantation is the route to wealth
The corruption at the heart of the Land Grabs
As this story and so many others we have researched over the past few weeks demonstrate, it is corruption through and through that drives Taib Mahmud's Land Grab policies.
The same number again 082 48 1645 ! Tabaruk Abadi Sdn Bhd is based at Mohammad Ali Holdings !
BN are welcome to put forward their political arguments that the State of Sarawak is in need of 'development and progress'.  They are also entitled to their views that, in order to achieve this, an "aggressive alienation" of Native Customary Rights Lands is necessary – although in fact this policy has now been ruled illegal time and again by the courts, who have been dealing with the hundreds of resulting land disputes.
But, it is in their manner of carrying out these policies that BN have revealed themselves to be insincere, greedy and corrupt.  They have shown their true motivation has nothing to do with 'progress' for the people of Sarawak  and everything to do with their personal ambitions to make as much money as possible out of the resources of Sarawak.
We can see this, because, instead of carrying out their policies honestly and transparently they have secretly handed out all these lands for themselves!
Corrupt practice
Mohammad Ali Holdings and Tabaruk Abadi Sdn Bhd share a sign outside the address which was given in the Land Registry!
If Taib was honestly attempting to develop Sarawak's lands in the best way for his people and the State, he would be openly auctioning off these vast concessions for the best possible price that could be gained by the government.  In this way the proceeds could be ploughed back into genuine development for roads, infrastructure and the alleviation of the widespread poverty of the people.
Measures to ensure that these lands are also developed sensitively and with due responsibility towards the environment and inhabitants could also be publicly written into such contracts, given a proper, honest approach to government.
But Taib has, of course done none of the above.  He has instead handed out all the parcels of land dirt cheap and via secretive deals to his own family, friends and political allies.  They have then sold them on for millions in profit to ruthless plantation companies to do what they like or developed them themselves.  There could have been no grubbier, greedier and more lawless approach to the business and, as we well know, any protests by local people have been dealt with by armed thugs hired by Taib's cronies. So much for the good of the people.
Taib Mahmud has behaved like some sort of evil Sultan, treating the resources of Sarawak like his own family possession and wasting them.  But, Sarawak does not belong to him.  He was given the trust of the people and he has abused it spectacularly, grabbing and destroying their lands without a single care except to make himself as rich as he possibly can.

PAS Melaka Akan Pertahankan PASTI Bukit Katil Daripada Diroboh

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 06:00 AM PDT

"Kita hanya mempertahankan hak kita.

-mk

LADIES WITH TITLES

Posted: 02 Apr 2011 05:13 AM PDT

Corrupt Barisan Nasional: There is a sprinkling of  Sarawakian women who have gone into the plantation business according to the land records.  One can't help noticing how well-connected they are!
For example Datin Thersa Toyat, who is a relative of the Chief Minister.  Theresa is also married to the former State Secretary and CEO of the company managing SCORE (Taib's pet development concept) Wilson Baya Dandot.  In such an important position Dandot should of course avoid conflicts of interest, so presumably this is why the large plantation way over in the Baram region is registered in the name of his wife?
Proper spelling is Theresa Toyat (according to the Register of Companies). Theresa's daughter owns 10% of Amazing Greens and Theresa herself 90%
Theresa is also the highly successful owner of the company Saredah Sdn Bhd (which is the address given for Amazing Green).  Saredah is a cleaning company and has managed to get many lucrative contracts handling the cleaning of state government buildings and offices!

So, it is not hard to understand why so many people in the state complain that there is no chance of getting on in business or of landing contracts or concessions without being connected in some way to the Taibs or their cronies!  Take Sarawak's top plantation women Raziah and Eliah Geneid – sister and niece of Taib, of course.
The Tun Rahman daughters
Taib and his new pet politician, cousin Norah. YB and Executive Chairman of Tanjung Manis
Another lady who features as a plantation owner is Fatimah Abdul Rahman.  She has managed to acquire a very large plantation title in Sri Aman region, according to the records.
She is of course the daughter of the former Chief Minister and State Governor Tun Rahman Ya'kub, who is now reconciled with his nephew the Current Chief Minister and pushing his other daughter Norah to be the next Chief Minister herself!
Norah is the MP to the Federal Government for Tanjung Manis, which Taib has been pushing as a major industrial region, focused around his vision of creating an international 'Halal Meat Hub'.
This is planned for after the Chief Minister has generated another fortune clearing the region's 77 thousand hectares of remaining mangrove forests of course, which he describes as 'pristine agricultural land'!
As ever mixing politics with business, Taib has also found it appropriate to appoint Norah Executive Chairman of Tanjung Manis Industries, the state-supported initiative that runs the Halal Hub.
Fatimah's land title - note the telephone number.. if you ring it you get through to Tanjung Manis Halal Hub Sdn Bhd!
So what is the distinction between private business, state initiatives and Taib family interests in Sarawak?  None it would seem, because if you ring the telephone number registered for Norah's sister Fatimah above in the land record (which we did) you will find that you have been put through to the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub Sdn Bhd!
Witches too!
We have referred to another form of female influence in Sarawak, the power exerted by the Bomoh Stella,, who was until recently a trusted advisor of Taib and his household!  Should anyone question the central role she played over the years we attach this picture of the regal family, published in 2003.  The only non-family member featured in the picture is Stella (Australian Kharleen Tashman).  This was before Stella started dying her hair to become the 'Blond Bomoh'!
