Midnight See People Play Ice Hockey At Sunway Pyramid

Midnight See People Play Ice Hockey At Sunway Pyramid

Posted: 16 May 2011 10:50 AM PDT

On one fine midnight, after attending the Hennessy Artistry event at night, I saw people playing ice hockey at the ice skating ring in Sunway Pyramid. It's pretty late at about 2am already, where all shops are already closed and extremely silent thoughout the mall, but the ring was noisy. Cheering and shouting from the team could be heard.

Midnight is a good time to play ice hockey because they can book the whole ring. It's pretty cool seeing people play in during the night as there's no ice skating ring in my hometown, there's actually one 12 years back (at Bukit Jambul Complex) but failed due to low reception.

I salute them can run so fast on the ice because I can't even skate. The pro part of all is that they never fell down. I couldn't imagine myself playing this. Haha. If it's a dry ground, without ice is OK, perhaps floorball or hockey. =D

We didn't know them and we just see. And our "see" already took us like half an hour. Hahaha. We really got nothing to do in the middle of the night. Cool eh, them. RANDOM.

Last Day Of Building Construction Class

Posted: 16 May 2011 09:52 AM PDT

After spending so many midnight time in campus, it came to the last day of Building Construction which was one of my subject for semester 2 of Diploma In Interior Design. It doesn't really comes to an end because I'll be taking Building Construction 2 for the next semester. Walao eh!

Well, time flies and it finally came to an end. Thanks to the sleepless night and awesome project, mister lecturer, Sivaranam. =) It's a tired day but the sky was blue, really very blue. Even though it's blue, it didn't brighten up my mentality because I was physically tired and sleep, but I still could force myself to shout (very random).

Mellysa, tired face. =D

Arvin still look so power.

I believe that day was not only me that was tired, most of everyone were. Treated myself in a good Chinese restaurant in campus as a reward for not sleeping.

Connie, the Hakka girl.

Tai lou and Zhi Inn of Muar!

Then went to feel and molested the iPad 2 (even I already had an iPad) at the campus' Apple store and it marks the end of the day. Bye bye Building Construction class. Hello, Building Construction exam! Which happening in 2 days time. I gotto read now. Cheers!

Midnight At Taylor’s University Architectural Studio

Posted: 16 May 2011 09:40 AM PDT

I spent a few nights at the studio in my campus lately due to last minute work. Yeah yeah, I bet many of you also always do last minute work. Haha. It's so last minute that I only get to go back and sleep for like an hour or 2 early in the morning, then go back in class, though the experience was fun, especially with a group of people, loud music in the silent campus and big studio room.

Building Construction's project was the troublesome one which took so many of my precious energy and nights of sleep. Satisfaction reached, yet the quality not that good due to wrong method, but anyway, we learned the lesson.

I realised the good of Taylor's University is that there's place for people to use to do work. I and my team can't be doing this at home because it will be very messy and we have to clean it ourselves, but in the studio, we can make it as messy it is, and someone will eventually come and clean it later.

To use the studio, we need to book it 3 days in advance, but then we didn't. We just "borrowed" the room from our senior who booked it. The lousy thing about studio is that there's no wifi service, which "Great, concentration" because that area is not covered in the hotspot and only one LAN connection port available.

However, the best part is the usage of projector and loud speaker. We played the music all night long.

Well, it would be great that there's 24/7 cafe or food corner open in Taylor's University, unfortunately, no. Though there's plenty of vending machines around, yet they still doesn't get on par with a plate of Maggi Goreng at the midnight mamak. Yes, we went out to hunt for food during our pauses.

I realised that the campus switch the air-conditioned to a warm temperature at a period of time in the midnight, as so it's pretty warm sometimes. Luckily it was raining out there, which the rain drop accompanied us together with the music.

I actually brought a pillow, thinking that I would be sleeping in the studio and go to class in the morning, but I failed because I just couldn't fall asleep, even how sleepy and tired I was. I just took a 5 minutes drive home and sleep. Even it's just an hour of sleep, it's still better than not sleeping.

Well, sometimes it's funny when people just come to campus and that's the time when I go back home. It's almost sunrise, and I met a bunch of friends, came all the way from Sepang, 50km away to Taylor's, early in the morning, to borrow the study room and read, before heading to breakfast. That's the power and craziness of Penangites.

Well, don't laugh. Bricks laying takes time. =D Not proud, but that's the 2 sleepless night in studio.

Foreign Investors Should Leave Malaysia Now

Posted: 16 May 2011 09:38 AM PDT

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — Politicians must refrain from endorsing media on ethnic grounds, MCA vice-president Gan Ping Sieu said today.

Gan voiced concern over Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakop's recent call for party members to support Utusan Malaysia, saying that it would only encourage the Malay daily to further its "ethno-centric" agenda.

"I am deeply saddened to learn that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakop has called on Umno members to openly support Utusan Malaysia because the daily purportedly defends Malay rights.

"Of late, Utusan Malaysia appears to be trying to rewrite the fundamental tenets of what responsible reporting entails ... It crossed the line with its coverage of the "Christian State" issue recently, earning a reprimand from the Home Ministry, after causing unnecessary alarm and anxiety among the different races in the country," said the MCA leader in reference to the daily's claims of an unsubstantiated plot to install a Christian prime minister.

Gan warned that Ismail's open endorsement of Utusan would only damage the newspaper's credibility and reaffirm the belief that it is nothing but a media tool of Umno.

Utusan Malaysia, in an article entitled "Kristian Agam Rasmi?" (Christianity the official religion?) claimed that DAP leaders and Christian priests were conspiring to take over Putrajaya, abolish Islam as the religion of the federation and install a Christian prime minister.

The Home Ministry eventually only slapped Utusan Malaysia with a warning letter for publishing the unsubstantiated report.

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali waded into the controversy last Saturday night when he threatened Christians nationwide that he would wage a crusade or holy war should they proceed with their alleged agenda to usurp Islam.

Previously, Utusan Malaysia called on its owners Umno to spearhead a 1 Melayu, 1 Bumi movement involving all Malay parties, claiming that the DAP is intent on toppling the country's Malay leadership.

Utusan Malaysia has also told Barisan Nasional (BN) to ignore the Chinese community for not supporting the ruling coalition during last month's Sarawak state election.

Why is Ibrahim Ali Not Arrested?

Ibrahim Ali is not the bogeyman but a real threat — Haris Ibrahim
May 16, 2011
MAY 16 — The Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) is sickened by the racist and anti-Christian rants of Ibrahim Ali, the president of Perkasa.

We are equally sickened by the tepid response from the home minister and the rest of the BN government to his incessant and increasingly rabid provocations.

Most recently, Ibrahim has called for a crusade against Christians. He has said that he is ready to fight, he is prepared to be detained under the Internal Security Act, he is willing to answer to a higher power if he is wrong.

His words clearly indicate that there is nothing holding him back from initiating an attack against Christians or those parties he suspects are backing the unsubstantiated "Christian conspiracy." This makes him a dangerous threat to Malaysia's peace, stability and security.

Therefore, it is alarming to note that there has been no action taken against Ibrahim. Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has merely said that Ibrahim does not speak for all Malays. He expressly denied that Ibrahim is not an extremist, but said that there were extremists in the Chinese community.

Is the home minister confirming that his ministry practises double standards when it comes to national security?

The home minister must realise that by allowing Ibrahim to continue his irrational but dangerous pro-Malay agenda, he is driving away investors and capital from Malaysia.

Already Talent Corp has had to issue a statement urging overseas Malaysians to ignore the heightening race rhetoric emanating from the country.

The MCLM has time and again called on the home minister and the BN government to act firmly and decisively against Ibrahim and Perkasa.

They should not allow these extremists to shape the public discourse on race relations in Malaysia because that can only end in disaster and bloodshed.

If the home minister cannot or will not take steps to protect the peace and harmony desired by all rational Malaysians, we will take steps to elect a government that will.

Islam Under Attack in Malaysia?

Posted: 16 May 2011 09:23 AM PDT

Yusri Mohamad, a product of the International Islamic University, ABIM and Pembela, and onetime personal aid to PKR President Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, claims that Islam is under attack. And should we be surprised when Muslims make a mockery of Islam? Anyway, this "Islam under attack" is all in the narrow minds of Muslims.

Islam's position under siege in M'sia, warns Pembela

(Malaysiakini) - The Coalition of Muslim Organisations (Pembela) has claimed that the position of Islam in Malaysia is under siege.

Speaking to reporters today, spokesperson Yusri Mohamad said this is particularly in relation to recent developments in Islam-Christian affairs.

Specifically, he cited the designation of a non-Muslim affairs exco in Penang and the 'pseudo-appointment' of Christian Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala to handle issues pertaining the Malay-language Bible as threatening Islam's position as the official religion.

He claimed there is no provision in the federal constitution for any official non-Muslim affairs body, and that making Idris the go-to minister for Christian affairs is thus unconstitutional.

"There is a (threat). These sorts of threats come in seasons but now have become more serious and are putting a lot of pressure on the way we deal with issues pertaining to Islam," he said.

"Islam is the official religion and is a pillar of our nation, but attempts are being made to make its position equal to other religions.

"Followers of other religions are portrayed as marginalised and oppressed... Islam and Muslims are dressed in an ugly mask and is made to seem guilty so that they give in (to demands)."

The fact that Idris was appointed to handle the Al Kitab issue was also wrong, he said, since Idris cannot be said to be non-partisan because he is Christian.

"He says he is non-partisan politically but this is a religious issue, and he is partisan. As we understand it, the (10-point proposal) was produced without consultation with the Fatwa Council, religious scholars and Muslim NGOs," he said.

Instead, he said the matter should have been handled by two ministers in the Prime Minister's Department - Jamil Khir Baharom who is in charge of Islamic affairs, and Koh Tsu Koon who is in charge of national harmony.

"We feel that the government can act within their powers...but Christian groups are now using terms like 'deface' and 'desecration' which is pushing the issue ... out of hand," he said.

As such, Pembela, a coalition of about 80 NGOs, will be hosting a conference on Saturday to discuss the issue of the sovereignty of Islam in Malaysia.

Themed 'Islam under siege: What will we do?', the event will be open to all Muslim NGOs and will feature a forum on the topic.

Among the topics to be discussed are the Al Kitab, conversions to Islam, religious freedom and the way such matters are handled by the government.

"We hope to then take the outcome of our discussion to the cabinet, prime minister, Rulers Council, political parties and mufti," he said.

Pembela not 'extremist'

Commenting on a police report recently lodged by a Christian against Pembela, Yusri said said the coalition is not an extremist group as perceived.

"We feel that the police report was a way to blow up the issue. Pembela has been around for a while and anyone who does a background check will find that we are not an extremist group," he said.

Pembela has never officially said it is willing to 'shed blood against Christians', as stated in the police report, he said.

"But perhaps during the peaceful demonstrations there were harsh words said, which is normal in a demonstration. You can't expect us to berbalas pantun.

"It is wrong to say that our movement is a threat to our non-Muslim friends," he said.

He added that police had contacted Pembela a week after the report to ask for recordings and materials distributed during the demonstration in March to assist in their investigation.

"No member (has been) called for questioning," he added.

UMNO Backing Crusade Against Christians?

Posted: 16 May 2011 09:10 AM PDT

The DAP rebuked the government today for refusing to punish Datuk Ibrahim Ali over his crusade threat against Christians, declaring this as proof that Umno backs the leader's controversial Malay rights group Perkasa.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng described Perkasa as Umno's "alter ego" while his deputy Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said both parties were playing a game of "good cop, bad cop" to woo Malay support.

"We have always believed that Ibrahim Ali is working hand in hand with Umno. Umno is using Perkasa to stir up Malay fear to force unity and make them support Barisan Nasional (BN).

"They are trying to use this common enemy syndrome and BN hopes to use Perkasa to actually send the message that Umno has been trying to send all this while," said Ngeh.

He also accused Ibrahim of being a bad Muslim for professing himself as a protector of Islam but at the same time inciting unrest by calling for violence against the Christians.

He charged that Ibrahim's main agenda was to cause fear among the Muslims and fabricate a struggle between the races in order to emerge as a "hero of Islam".

"Religion should remain pure but far too often politicians use it for their personal agenda. In my opinion, he is not practising Islam at all... by making false accusations, inciting hatred, he is not a good Muslim," he said.

The DAP leaders also agreed that the government's failure to punish Ibrahim for his threat, which they said was a form of "criminal intimidation", was clearly a case of double standards by the administration.

As an example, DAP national organising secretary Teresa Kok pointed out to The Malaysian Insider that an investigation had immediately been called when an article alleging a conspiracy by the Christians to usurp Islam was published in Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.

"Why, when Utusan published a blogger's article talking about rumours that Christians want to change the religion of the federation, which is not at all the case, the cops came out to say that they were investigating it. And so many people were called up.

"What about this one? Is this not equally as inflammatory?" she said when contacted.

Kok added that all eyes would be on the government now to see if any action would be taken against Ibrahim.

Lim said the statement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein yesterday in explaining the issue was unsatisfactory and only further confirms Umno's backing of Perkasa.

When asked for his remarks yesterday, Hishammuddin appeared to brush off concerns, saying Ibrahim does not represent the sentiments of all Malays.

"I don't think Ibrahim Ali represents all the Malays or all the Muslims. Same as Osama bin Laden, he doesn't represent all the Muslims.

"There are extremists, I'm not saying Ibrahim Ali is an extremist, please don't quote me wrongly but I'm saying that there are different levels of understanding so let the public decide who they want to represent (them)," he said, adding that there are extremists in the Chinese community as well.

"This is a weak excuse by Umno because if action is only taken based on the strength of your representation not the nature and ill-intent of your violence, why then act against terrorists because they also do not represent all the Malays?

"This latest justification by Hishamuddin on why no action is taken against Ibrahim only confirms that Perkasa is Umno's alter ego," said Lim.

He pointed out that when Ibrahim launched his crusade threat against Christians on Saturday during the ceramah organised by the Komunity 1 Malaysia group in Kampung Changkat in Gombak here, several Umno leaders were present — Gombak Umno chief Abdul Rahman Kamaruddin, his deputy Abdul Aziz Jantan and division information chief Ismail Ahman.

In his speech, Ibrahim had called for a crusade or holy war against the Christians if the community proceeds with its agenda to usurp Islam.

"Please record my words — if there is any party in Penang, especially the Christian priests who are being backed by the Penang DAP, should continue with their agenda which we already know, I would like to offer that if they want to hold a crusade, we can," he had said.

Anwar ordered to enter defence from June 6-30

Posted: 16 May 2011 09:02 AM PDT

Sodomy II:
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court on Monday ordered Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to defend himself against a charge of sodomising his former personal assistant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan three years ago.

High Court judge Justice Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah determined that the prosecution had established a prima facie case and the 63-year-old PKR adviser must enter his defence in a continuation of his trial fixed from June 6 to June 30.

"The accused is charged with carnal intercourse against order of nature.

"The defence tried to paint Saiful as a witness who was not credible and that he was not a good Muslim. With great respect to defence, these arguments are irrelevant.

"Saiful appeared to be a truthful witness and his evidence reliable, with the minute details given in his account.

"Therefore, the next question is whether there is evidence to corroborate Saiful's statements.

"The three doctors who testified confirmed that there was penile penetration.

"As for contamination of DNA evidence, all samples taken were immediately sealed. I find the possibility of contamination of samples to be remote.

"Based on all the above reasons, the prosecution has made a prima facie case against the accused. The defence is called," he said.

A total of 27 prosecution witnesses were called to take the stand during 59 days of hearing.

On Aug 7, 2008, Anwar pleaded not guilty to performing carnal intercourse against the order of nature on complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at a condominium unit in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

The alleged offence took place between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

He is charged under Section 377B of the Penal Code and if convicted, could be sentenced to up to 20 years' jail and whipped.

Anwar remained composed after he heard the ruling on Monday. He smiled as he greeted supporters.

The lawyers then entered chambers.

Supporters said they were not surprised by the ruling as it was widely expected.

Saksi Pembela Diugut Dan Kewibawaan Saiful Jadi Persoalan.

Anwar : Polis Ugut Saksi Pembela Kes Liwat Fitnah

KUALA LUMPUR 16 MEI : Ketua Pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim mendedahkan tindakan polis "menakut-nakutkan' saksi pembelaan yang dijadualkan memberi keterangan apabila perbicangan bersambung bulan depan.

Berikut petikan penuh ceramah Saifuddin :

"Dia (polis) soal siasat Hasanudin dan isterinya Kak Sham. Bila Saiful buat aduan, polis serbu kondominum, ambil semua contoh, gunting karpet sana sini semua.

-mk

Kes Anwar- Hakim/Pendakwaraya Bersekongkol, Kata Aziz Bari

-tvsnews

Ulasan GB

"Tali menjerut Anwar semakin mencengkam" tulis Wira Arjuna.

Tangkap Ibrahim Ali Segera - NGO Aman

Posted: 16 May 2011 08:16 AM PDT

NGO Aman mahu Ibrahim Ali ditahan guna Akta Darurat

Semalam, Presiden Gerakan Senator Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon meminta polis agar menyiasat ucapan-ucapan Ibrahim sejak beberapa hari lalu.

-TMI

Perang Salib: Pemimpin gereja mahu tindakan

Teruskan.

Razali, an Umno member & an invited guest at 'Christian conspiracy' event

Posted: 16 May 2011 07:31 AM PDT

Police have quizzed eight pastors who were present at the gathering in Penang that Utusan Malaysia had alleged to have hatched a so-called 'conspiracy' to make Christianity the official religion.

jeff ooi on utusan mohamed razali report 140511 01Speaking to reporters in Kuala Lumpur, Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi who was present at the dinner last weekend where the 'plot' was supposedly hatched, said that the pastors were called up in the week following his police report on May 8 denying the Malay daily's claims and the police's questions to the pastors suggests confusion of the authorities over the manner of Christian worship with the taking of a pledge.
Ooi added that the fact that a Muslim man, Mohamed Razali, had now come forward to make a report which authorities claimed gave the Utusan Malaysia report "some basis" was also illogical because should there be a conspiracy, they wouldn't have invited anybody, moreover a Muslim. Ooi said, "That is common sense and to allude that I was the organiser to call for such a pledge - they should take note that I am a practicing Buddhist."

Yesterday,Mohamed Razali, a member of DAP's Jelutong branch, had lodged a police report on the controversy.

The Arab spring unleashes Islamists on Egyptian Christians by Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted: 16 May 2011 06:48 AM PDT

Screaming "With our blood and soul, we will defend you, Islam," jihadists stormed the Virgin Mary Church in northwest Cairo last weekend. They torched the Coptic Christian house of worship, burned the nearby homes of two Copt families to the ground, attacked a residential complex, killed a dozen people, and wounded more than 200: just another day in this spontaneous democratic uprising by Muslim hearts yearning for freedom.

In the delusional vocabulary of the "Arab Spring," this particular episode is known as a sectarian "clash." That was the Washington Post's take. Its headline reads "12 dead in Egypt as Christians and Muslims clash" — in the same way, one supposes, that a mugger's fist can be said to "clash" with his victim's face. The story goes on, in nauseating "cycle of violence" style, to describe "clashes between Muslims and Coptic Christians" that "left" 12 dead, dozens more wounded, "and a church charred" — as if it were not crystal clear who were the clashers and who were the clashees, as if the church were somehow combusted into a flaming heap without some readily identifiable actors having done the charring. MP Kelana Jaya Pula Terima Video Seks, Polis Lansung Tak Bertindak

Posted: 16 May 2011 06:53 AM PDT

-FMT

Ulasan GB

Malaysia Today Kerjasama Dengan WikiLeaks

Posted: 16 May 2011 05:30 AM PDT

Raja Petra pula banyak menggegarkan politik Malaysia apabila membuat pelbagai pendedahan.

-HD

Memories of the Old Penang

Posted: 16 May 2011 05:07 AM PDT

If I am not blogging or doing housework or skyping with Angela, I normally while away my time Facebooking. Yesterday, I went down memory lane with my old friend's brother T.O. who lives in Hertfordshire.

It all started when I posted the youtube link of Do You Love Me? from Fiddler on the Roof.

We started talking about movies and this is how it all started:

T.O.: I remember going to see this movie in Capitol Theatre (Penang) - demolished long ago.
Yesterday at 4:03pm · Unlike · 1 person

Me: Ah - I also watched it there!! Think it was in early 1970s!! Have a wonderful Sunday!
22 hours ago · Like
Phil Y:  Yep, The Capitol definitely. Just diagonally across the road from where I lived. Many memories of movies caught there.
19 hours ago · Like
T.O. : 3rd class 65 sen, 2nd class $1.00, 1st class $1.40 and balcony $2.00.

Phil Y: Yep ;)
19 hours ago · Like
T.O:  ‎3rd class - first 3 rows in front of big screen.... there was a Chinese school adjacent to Capitol... and Paramount, Royal, Eastern and Rialto (?) further down the road....
19 hours ago · Like

And on and on we went....

Subsequently, I asked TO to share his input on Great World Park and this is what he wrote in a few emails. He also sent me a sketch of the area!

Here's what TO wrote:

Rialto was very adjacent to that carousel (I still call it merry-go-round).

When riding on the carousel (as a kid), one could see that Rialto cinema in full view.

Rialto was the "cheap" cinema – lowest ticket prices (as in Globe within New World Park). It only showed re-runs of old Chinese movies.

Those who paid for entrance into Great World Park, got option to see movie for free at Rialto, if prepared to stand at the sides of the auditorium.... sort of open-air but for the roof and side and back of the cinema.

And those who paid to see a movie in Eastern got to enter Great World Park without any further charge.

Eastern was attached to Great World Park and there was a cheap cinema inside of Great World Park... those didn't buy seats could watch from the sides of "open" cinema....

The one in Campbell Street was Sun cinema (showing Chinese movies only)... now a "disco" for a long time.

There was Oriental Emporium adjacent to Capitol....

Lido was at NEW World Park in Swatow Lane. With Globe actually inside of New World Park.

Royal was outside of Great World Park... adjacent and opposite the big ferris-wheel. Rialto was inside of the park and adjacent to the merry-go-round. It was without walls on two sides, so those who already paid for entrance into the park could stand and watch the movie for free. Globe was the same sort of cinema inside of New World Park. Royal was also adjacent to Paramount (which only showed Indian movies).

And dodgem cars! My mum took me to ride the merry-go-round when I was a child. From the top of the ferris-wheel one could see Royal opposite the road (i.e. outside of the park). Rialto only showed re-runs of old Chinese movies.

Same in New World Park.

If you paid to watch a movie in Lido, you could also enter New World Park.

And Globe (within New World Park) was same sort of cheap cinema as Rialto in Great World Park.

Paramount Cinema only screened Indian movies only.

Royal nearby also showed predominantly Indian movies, but changed later (i.e. showed non-Indian movies).

Remember the wrestling matches and Rose Chan at New World Park?

Don't forget the annual "Trade Fair" held in New World Park.

A major event in Penang in those old days!

We thought so much to see at the Trade Fair then. I first saw televisions at the Trade Fair!

I think Great World Park (along with Rialto and Eastern cinemas) closed down to make way for the development of Komtar at that time (I was already in England). Remember the Indian stalls selling used books and magazines along that road where Eastern was sited?

Those Indian bookstalls were once on top of the big drains outside of St John's.

Thanks, TO, for sharing these beautiful memories.

I invite Penangites who have fond memories of these places to leave a comment to share their memories.

Thanks! Have a lovely evening!
