This is another article out in the Malaysian Insider:

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Vernacular schools cannot be treated equally with national schools, claims Perkasa, as it "contravenes" the Federal Constitution.

The Malay rights group said today that such a demand was seditious, adding that national schools still needed to be given priority as they promoted the national language Bahasa Malaysia, unlike vernacular schools.

"The demand made by Chinese groups that vernacular schools be accorded the same treatment as national schools is against Article 152(2) of the Federal Constitution, and they can be charged with sedition," said Perkasa Wiranita chief Datin Paduka Norkhaila Jamaludin.

Her remarks were aimed at a Sun daily report today that more than 80 Chinese NGOs turned up for the launch of the "Justice for Lim Lian Geok" campaign on Sunday.

The campaign, held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the revocation of the citizenship of Lim, a revered Chinese educationist, aims to petition the government to restore his citizenship, and give equal and fair treatment to all schools that use different mediums of instruction.

According to a statement issued last week by the LLG (Lim Lian Geok) Cultural Development Centre, vernacular schools should be treated equally along with national schools and that all forms of discriminatory practices against vernacular schools should be stopped.

Perkasa lodged a police report against the campaign today.

"The late Lim Lian Geok was stripped of his citizenship because he betrayed the country and the demands are a threat to national security and against the country's laws," said Norkhaila.

You know, they have pressure groups in the US who is actually able to lobby for change in the Congress and at the White House. The effectiveness comes from a combination of know who and especially know how. The lobbyists tend to be professionals who are very knowledgeable and skillful in their undertaking. In Malaysia, we try to immitate in form, but not in substance, hence cretins like Perkasa are born. With half a brain and some inkling of what history and politics (and the constitution) are all about, they go about bandying half baked ideas of what these complex things could mean, making up things as they go along as long as it suits them and their paymaster, which is none other than powerful forces (and warlords) within UMNO.

In these few last weeks, their enemies have multiplied:
1) there was originally some unnamed bogeyman who is challenging Malay/Muslim position in the constitution (until this date we don't know who they are referring to)
2) since Sarawak state election, DAP is now a Chinese chauvinist party even though the swing to opposition is by urban voters, not just Chinese voters
3) DAP is now also a proponent of Christian state, even if BN's partner MCA has been repeatedly accusing DAP of working hand in glove with PAS to create an Islamic state (both untrue of course)
4) and now the latest twist in their increasing list of grievances, they are accusing certain Chinese groups as seditious for suggesting having a free hand to grow vernacular schools
5) and oh, they are even demanding only bumi contractors (qualified or otherwise) are given the task of building the MRT (heaven help us all)

In this land where pride overides good judgment, and sensitivity sweeps honest discussion under the carpet, Perkasa has obviously missed the whole point about this perplexing education debate. Chinese groups are pragmatic folks. Do you think they care that the entire education system only consist of national schools, if the education system is of top notch quality? Can Perkasa deny that the vernacular Chinese schools teach better math and science? Even President Obama has acknowledged that Asian schools have surpassed US schools in coming up with better maths and science students, and I betcha he ain't referring to national schools in Malaysia.

It's really not a pride issue as far as the Chinese are concerned, and even far less a Chinese chauvinist position. It is purely an education issue - people (and I mean even Malays and Indians) are sending their children to Chinese vernacular schools because it's proven that the system there works better in educating children on these subjects. Perhaps Perkasa can think of it this way - that the Chinese are very serious about their children's education. It's like being a protective parent. Can Perkasa understand this analogy? I hope so, because child protection is a human instinct that even if Perkasa refuses to engage their logic, they should be able to feel that what the educationist groups are requesting is right.

What I cannot fathom is how does asking for vernacular schools seditious or against the constitution? Are the education groups inciting hatred towards anyone else? A call for diversity in schools are equivalent to asking for more democratic space. Since when is asking for more democratic space seditious? It would have been different if the education group says "down with national schools and convert everything to Chinese medium" - now, that would not only piss off the Malays, but probably some Chinese themselves for the undemocratic stupidity that it represents. Likewise, Malaysians having the right mind would probably think the same if Perkasa keeps harping on having ONLY national schools because that's undemocratic.

Seriously, Perkasa should stop shooting from the hip. You really don't have to meet the daily or weekly quota UMNO sets for you to make your million ringgit fees. It's ok (in a commercial sense, illegality notwithstanding) to be an extremist and fundamentalist party bent on racial and religious division (you're just doing your hatchet job), but please do your research and come up with smarter arguments that could actually change people's minds instead of idiotic pronouncements that not only turn the non-Malay/Muslims away, but probably the moderate Malay/Muslims as well. And for goodness sake, stop using the "we Malays will be angry if you do that and you won't like it when we're angry" because firstly, Perkasa are not Malays/Muslims, and then you stop meaningful dialogue and it becomes a purely intimidatory exercise. It's fine for you to intimidate under a BN government (in a machiavellian sense), but you should remember that after the 13th general elections, when the top BN leaders have escaped the country to avoid getting arrested (yes, I mean Pakatan will take over the federal government, in case you don't know how to read between the lines), the rest of you are still here, and you will be arrested for a multitude of criminal offences, and upon conviction, you can rest assured your days in prison will be a long and hardy one.

Perkasa members, bail out while you can, from a sinking vessel. It is inevitable and predestined that such a day will come very soon.

Perkasa full of crap

Posted: 10 May 2011 09:27 AM PDT

This is out in the Malaysian Insider today:

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Datuk Ibrahim Ali dubbed the Bar Council racist for picking on Utusan Malaysia for inciting racial hatred, saying today the lawyers' group should also focus on the Chinese media and others that "insult Islam, Malay Rulers and the Malay community".

The Perkasa chief's rant came after the Bar Council joined other groups to condemn Utusan Malaysia for its front-page article on Saturday which claimed that the DAP was conspiring with Christian leaders to take over Putrajaya and abolish Islam as the country's official religion.

"Why did the Bar Council not urge the police to investigate Chinese media, other bloggers, website and portals, tweets that carry news and statements which insult Islam, Malay Rulers and the Malay community.

"The Bar Council is controlled by a certain race and, of course, its actions are anti-Malay and anti-Islam," Ibrahim (picture) told The Malaysian Insider.

The Bar Council is a professional body under the Legal Profession Act that runs the Malaysian Bar, which groups all lawyers in the Malay peninsula.

The Umno-owned newspaper has been under heavy scrutiny from both sides of the political divide after it carried the report.

The report, based entirely on unsubstantiated blog postings by several pro-Umno bloggers, said the DAP should be hauled up for sedition for allegedly trying to change the country's laws to allow a Christian prime minister, pointing to a grainy photograph showing what they described as a secret pact between the opposition party and pastors at a hotel in Penang on Wednesday.

Malaysian Bar president Lim Chee Wee accused Putrajaya yesterday of giving free rein to Utusan Malaysia to publish and promote what he called lies dressed up as news reports and continue to stir up religious fear and unrest.

The lawyer joined a growing choir in urging the authorities to get their priorities in order and immediately investigate reporters and editors in the Umno-owned daily for repeatedly pushing provocative religious rhetoric rather than hauling up Christian leaders over unproven claims.

The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM), which represents over 90 per cent of churches nationwide, has also demanded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak act immediately against Utusan for false reporting and spreading dangerous lies.

"Instead of questioning Utusan Malaysia's journalistic conduct and ethics, the immediate responses from the ministers in charge of home affairs and communications were to order investigations into the alleged incidents themselves," Lim said in a statement.

Ibrahim said today that the Bar does not have any more integrity and its decisions are racially biased.

"Their attitude is always one sided and the topics they discuss is always towards anti-Islam and anti-Malay… It is not a professional body with any integrity," added the Pasir Mas MP, who was once deputy minister in charge of law under the Mahathir administration after the 1999 general election.

While the MCA and Gerakan have urged actions against Utusan, Umno leaders on the contrary have tried to dodge the issue and urged for calm.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Information Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim have jumped to Utusan's defence and issued a stern warning yesterday to Malaysians to not question Islam's position as the official religion of Malaysia.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

In a normal democracy, people like Ibrahim Ali would already be investigated for sedition, criminal defamation and even criminal intimidation. Prone to shoot from his hip, putting entire foot in his mouth, or other equivalent analogy, Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali creates a bogeyman that is entirely fictitious, and then blames it on anyone they can think of - Chinese voters, Christians, Chinese press, DAP and now the latest edition, the Bar Council.

Perkasa should check the Malaysian government's position on the Bar Council. At some point in the past, the Bar Council has been known to be controlled by Malays, Indians, then Singhs, then now Chinese. It's a superficial stance of course, because they look at the Council's head, instead of elected council members collectively, which consist of all races and of all religious make-up - and these all happens too not because of some quota system but because Malaysian lawyers choose it so in a free and fair electoral process. So I ask Perkasa - which one is which? The Bar Council cannot be controlled by Indians and Chinese at the same time.

In fact, I'd even go further to ask Perkasa what's its stance on DAP. If DAP is a Chinese chauvinist party, why is there an urban voter swing to the opposition parties, instead of just Chinese voter swing? If a vote for DAP is a vote for Islamic State (as MCA has repeated said in every by-election and even Sarawak state election), then why is it that PAS is alleged to "work for" DAP? And if DAP is a backdoor to Islamic State, how is it possible for DAP to gang up with Christians in this country to turn Malaysia into a Christian state? It is simply amazing that BN/UMNO/MCA/Perkasa/Utusan/Pembela are so full of contradictions that they are tripping all over themselves. For them, making allegations are so cheap because there's no consequence, since they are a protectorate of UMNO government, and are all above the law.

Someone should just sue them. Let them come up with evidence of how these supposed seditionists have raised sensitive issues pertaining to race and religion against the Constitution. Failing which Perkasa should just be dissolved.

"Saya Tukar Daulat Tuanku Kepada Allahu Akbar Supaya Pelafaznya Dapat Pahala" - Sultan Kelantan

Posted: 10 May 2011 09:36 AM PDT

Sultan Yang Prihatin

Ulasan GB

Mana nak cari lagi sultan macam ni, sanggup gugurkan "Daulat Tuanku" kepada "Allahu Akbar" semata-mata kerana mahu rakyatnya memperolehi pahala sewaktu melafaznya....

Sabda Baginda bermaksud: Barang siapa yang membaca satu huruf daripada al-Quran maka dia akan mendapat satu kebaikan dan satu kebaikan digandakan sepuluh, aku tidak katakan bahawa 'alif lam mim' satu huruf tetapi alif satu huruf, lam satu huruf dan mim satu huruf. (Riwayat Tirmizi)

Sebut sahaja seruan الله اكبر dah berpahala berlipat-lipat kali ganda. Sungguh mulia hati Tuanku yang seorang nih.

Psychiatrist: Teoh NOT suicidal. Did MACC frighten Teoh literally to death?

Posted: 10 May 2011 08:22 AM PDT

UPDATED @ 08:46:05 PM 10-05-2011
By Boo Su-Lyn
May 10, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Teoh Beng Hock was in the lowest risk group for suicide when he entered the custody of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), a forensic psychiatrist said in his report to a royal panel investigating the DAP political aide's death today.
Dr Paul Mullen also said in his report to the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) investigating Teoh's death that there was no reason for Teoh to conclude that he had shamed himself or betrayed his colleagues when he was questioned by the MACC.
"In brief, it is my opinion that Teoh Beng Hock was firmly in the lowest risk group for suicide when he was taken into MACC custody," said Dr Mullen in his report, which was provided to the press today.
"His statement (to the MACC)... does not seem to clearly implicate him, or anyone else, in offences... this is not a context which, in my experience, leads to suicide in custody... there is nothing of which I have been made aware to explain panic and distress sufficient to drive him to conclude his honour had been irreparably tarnished," added the Australian doctor.
Dr Mullen's report came as the RCI concluded hearing testimony from 70 witnesses today in its bid to unravel the mysterious circumstances behind Teoh's death.
Dr Mullen was not called to give oral testimony at the inquiry.
Teoh was found dead on July 16, 2009 on the fifth-floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after he was questioned overnight by MACC officers at their then-Selangor headquarters on the 14th floor.
Teoh, 30, had been the political secretary to Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, who is also the Seri Kembangan assemblyman from the DAP.
The graftbusters were investigating a claim that his boss was abusing state funds.
Dr Mullen, who has been a forensic psychiatrist for three decades, said his findings were based on several documents as well as joint interviews with local government psychiatrists Dr Badi'ah Yahya and Dr Nor Hayati Ali, Teoh's fiancée, family members, friends, boss and colleagues.
Dr Mullen's report as well as Dr Badi'ah's and Dr Nor Hayati's joint report were the first psychiatric evidence about Teoh's mysterious plunge as no psychiatrists had previously testified at the coroner's inquest into Teoh's death that ruled out both suicide and homicide.
MACC lawyer Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah suggested recently that Teoh had committed "honour suicide" to protect his boss and the DAP from being exposed as corrupt.
But Ean Yong has dismissed Shafee's suggestion, pointing out that the MACC had cleared him of abusing state funds.
MACC headquarters investigating officer (IO) Ahmad Shafik Abdul Rahman testified recently that Ean Yong was innocent of abusing state funds as all projects in his constituency were completed in 2008.
Ahmad Shafik said he could not conduct further investigations against Ean Yong as Teoh's testimony was crucial, adding that the public prosecutor ordered investigations to be dropped due to lack of evidence.

Dr Mullen, a professor at Monash University in Australia, said suicide rates were higher among those in custody, but pointed out that Teoh was a witness who was not charged with any offence.
"There is to my knowledge no evidence about, or even reported cases of, people who have killed themselves when having witness statements taken by authorities," said the 66-year-old expert.
"If the Commission were also to accept the claims that Teoh Beng Hock was co-operative, not showing obvious distress, and willingly chose to remain in the MACC office, this, in my opinion, would virtually exclude the chances of Teoh Beng Hock having taken his own life," he added.
He said the statements from MACC officers painted a picture of a co-operative witness who "was so relaxed about his presence in the offices that when told he could leave, he preferred to settle down for a sleep on a sofa."
The forensic psychiatrist also highlighted various factors that slashed Teoh's risk of suicide.
Dr Mullen said Teoh did not have previous suicide attempts or self-harm, or a family history of suicide.
He also pointed out that Teoh was employed, had plans to get married soon, enjoyed close family ties, had a range of friends and colleagues, had not suffered a recent bereavement and had no financial or gambling problems.
"Suicide is very uncommon among those with robust social networks in the form of close family ties, a range of friends, and positive relationships at work," said Dr Mullen.
"Teoh Beng Hock showed no evidence for a lowered mood, let alone depression, prior to being taken into custody. In fact, he appears to have been more elated than usual because of the prospect of marriage and fatherhood," the psychiatrist added.
Teoh's fiancée Soh Cher Wei testified yesterday that they had planned to wed in October 2009 after she discovered early July 2009 that she was pregnant.
The white-haired Dr Mullen, who obtained his PhD when he was just 22 years old, also said Teoh's personality did not suggest any increased risk of suicide.
"Enquiries made of those interviewed suggested that Teoh Beng Hock was a well-organised, tidy man with a tendency to be perfectionalistic," he said.
"No evidence was found, however, for dysfunctional obsessional traits, or unusual rigidity... suicide is more common among rigid, obsessional individuals when they are placed under particular forms of stress, such as being arrested and charged with serious crimes," he added.
He did not make a conclusion on a mystery note found in Teoh's bag, saying that it was up to the commission to decide if the document allegedly written by Teoh was indeed a suicide note.
"If the commission does not give credence to the note being a suicide note, in my opinion, this greatly reduces the probability that Teoh Beng Hock killed himself," said the psychiatric expert.
Teoh's sister Lee Lan insisted yesterday that her brother did not write the note.
The mystery note stirred a controversy when it surfaced after the Attorney-General's Chambers tendered it as evidence last August — some 10 months after the start of the coroner's inquest into Teoh's death.
The accuracy of the note's court translation was also disputed after official interpreter Ting Chin Kin admitted to using free online service Google Translate to do the job.
Dr Badi'ah and Dr Nor Hayati concluded in their joint report, which was provided to the press, that Teoh had "both risk factors favouring him for suicide and protective factors that reduce his likely risk for suicide."
They said Teoh appeared to be in a "fear-inducing situation" when MACC officers searched Ean Yong's office, but pointed out that Teoh did not have a history of depression, suicide attempts or a family history of suicide.
Dr Badi'ah has been a forensic psychiatrist since 2002, while Dr Nor Hayati is the principal investigator of the National Suicide Registry and has been a psychiatrist for 11 years.
"In my opinion, prior to entering custody, Teoh Beng Hock was in a low risk group for suicide," said Dr Mullen.
"If he did kill himself, in my opinion, things are likely to have occurred both to undermine his psychological stability and to frighten him literally to death," he added.
RCI chairman Tan Sri James Foong said today that all parties were to hand in their submissions by May 25.
He added that the commission has to submit its report to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by June 24 as the June 25 deadline falls on a Saturday.
The commission, which enlisted the help of Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) former chief investigator Michael Leslie Squires, had heard testimonies from forensic pathologists, chemists, MACC and police officers, MACC witnesses, Teoh's fiancée, family members, friends, boss and colleagues.
The RCI was tasked to uncover the circumstances behind Teoh's fatal plunge and to determine if there was any impropriety in MACC's investigation against Ean Yong.
Among the testimonies at the RCI, which were not heard at the inquest, were by two MACC officers who said they were instructed to cover up the role of then-Selangor MACC deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim in the probe against Ean Yong.
MACC assistant superintendent Azeem Hafeez Jamaluddin had said Hishamuddin had ordered him to testify that the operation was led by Selangor MACC investigation unit head Hairul Ilham Hamzah instead.

Bullying Rears Its Ugly Head Again

Posted: 10 May 2011 07:56 AM PDT

I am very sad to read FOUR reports on bullying in The Star today:

1. Underworld groups recruiting members online

2. Bullies get suspension for 14 days

3. Bullying case: Mum wants daughter to soldier on despite dark episode

4. Teen girl tells of months of abuse by caretaker

Bullying is a very real problem that must be viewed seriously by all parties concerned!

The following information is taken from THIS LINK:

What is bullying?
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) defines bullying as:

"Behaviour by an individual or group, usually repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group, either physically or emotionally."

Bullying can take many forms: from teasing and spreading rumours to pushing someone around and causing physical harm. It often happens in front of other people.

It includes name calling, mocking, kicking, taking belongings, writing or drawing offensive graffiti, messing around with people's belongings, gossiping, excluding people from groups, and threatening others.

Why are people bullied?
Children and young people are bullied for all sorts of reasons. It can be due to their race, their religion, their appearance, their sexual orientation, because they have a disability or because of their home circumstances. People are bullied for being black, white, fat, clever, gay or red-haired. These are a few examples.

But people are sometimes picked on for no reason.

Cyberbullying is increasingly common both inside and outside school. Cyberbullying is any form of bullying that involves the use of mobile phones or the internet. For example, sending offensive text messages and emails, circulating degrading images on the internet, or impersonating someone on social networking sites such as Bebo and Facebook. For more information on cyberbullying and how to respond to it, see How to deal with cyberbullying.

The effects of bullying
Bullying makes the lives of its victims miserable. It undermines their confidence and destroys their sense of security.

Bullying on can cause sadness, loneliness, low self-esteem, fear, anxiety and poor concentration, and lead to self-harm, depression, suicidal thoughts and, in some cases, suicide.

Bullying can also affect children and young people's attendance and progress at school. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.

If you are being bullied or if you know of a victim or if your loved one is a victim, keep silent no more. Make a police report or inform the authorities concerned and take preventive measures.

STOP BULLYING NOW!

Waspada Jemaah Haji: Jangan Terbeli Air Zamzam Palsu

Posted: 10 May 2011 08:17 AM PDT

Makkah: Sejumlah besar pendatang haram dan sesetengah warga Arab Saudi menjadikan kerjaya menjual air Zamzam palsu kerana mampu meraih keuntungan lumayan.

– Agensi

"Saya Tukar Daulat Tuanku Kepada Allahu Akbar Supaya Pelafaznya Dapat Pahala" - Sultan Kelantan

Posted: 10 May 2011 06:40 AM PDT

Sultan Yang Prihatin

Ulasan GB

Mana nak cari lagi sultan macam ni, sanggup gugurkan "Daulat Tuanku" kepada "Allahu Akbar" semata-mata kerana mahu rakyatnya memperolehi pahala sewaktu melafaznya....

Sabda Baginda bermaksud: Barang siapa yang membaca satu huruf daripada al-Quran maka dia akan mendapat satu kebaikan dan satu kebaikan digandakan sepuluh, aku tidak katakan bahawa 'alif lam mim' satu huruf tetapi alif satu huruf, lam satu huruf dan mim satu huruf. (Riwayat Tirmizi)

Sebut sahaja seruan الله اكبر dah berpahala berlipat-lipat kali ganda. Sungguh mulia hati Tuanku yang seorang nih.

[Video] Ada Cubaan Untuk Membunuh Anwar

Posted: 10 May 2011 06:48 AM PDT

Pemandu dakwa kesan usaha mahu bunuh Anwar, brek kereta diusik

-TMI

The proposed 1M’sia health plan is based on ineffective and failing NHS-UK model

Posted: 10 May 2011 06:23 AM PDT

Second Life: National Health Service (UK):

I am just sharing this interesting letter in MKini by Drs Steven Chow & Ng Swee Choon (members of the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners' Associations Malaysia): "Referendum badly needed on 1M'sia health plan". I hope and pray that MOH & MMC officials would refrain from attacking this messenger.

We read with great interest and agreement, the article by Dr HT Ong and others '1Care outpatient scheme – middlemen didahulukan?', on the planned 1Malaysia Healthcare transformation reported in Star May, 24.

When this plan was revealed three years ago, the FPMPAM had cautioned that introducing a national health insurance, will not necessarily improve patient care and lower cost of delivery. In fact, our contention is that it may disrupt the continuity of present patient care in the country.

Our proposal is instead of a transformation is to allow the system to evolve, paying particular attention to areas of weaknesses, which cause the under-performance and poor delivery in the existing system.

Based on our knowledge, the proposed transformed system is supposed to be modelled from the NHS system of the United Kingdom. A brief view of the essential changes is as follows:

  1. There will no longer be separate public and private healthcare funding.
  2. All healthcare costs shall be met by way of a central fund that is in the process of being designated.
  3. All residents will be allocated to their GP in their locale, and given a number. They must see the GP in their locale should they require medical help. The GP will act as their primary doctor and if necessary, will refer them for a specialist opinion and care.
  4. All hospitals (no longer demarcated as private or public) will treat the patients referred and charge the national health insurance/fund who will reimbursed based on a "fees schedule "
  5. Patients can buy additional private insurance should they wish.

Among others, the reasons given to justify this healthcare transformation are:

  • The inefficiencies in the present healthcare system, especially the long waiting list.
  • The never-ending issue of rising healthcare cost and that the government can no longer afford to subsidise it.
  • The new system solves the brain drain to the private sector.

Not a solution

What we, as practitioners fail to see (and we have discussed this extensively amongst ourselves), is how the government's proposed transformation will solve what it is planned to solve for the following reasons:

1. Firstly, the proposed model will only increase waiting lists as clearly exemplified by NHS-UK which is the model for this transformation. Public complaints of unduly long elective surgery waiting list in terms of many months in many cases, have been substantiated by the recent reports in the BBC news.

Clearly at the end of the day, that is no different from what we have now. In addition, the NHS-UK is in trouble with many cases of the GP 'gate-keepers' being sued for unacceptable delay and denial of secondary care. The question of why Malaysia is adopting a model which has been acknowledged even by the UK government as riddled with problems remains unanswered.

2. Our prediction is that the healthcare cost will surely continue to rise and at a more rapid rate. This is exactly what is happening despite many decades of the NHS. The system has failed to contain costs. Healthcare cost in the UK continues to increase year by year resulting in more and more cuts which in turn is aggravating the ability of the system to efficiently deliver the care that it was designed for.

The creation of another bureaucratic layer in the form of the health insurance payers (another business entity) will add a substantial cost item to healthcare delivery. This is the middle-men that will be appointed to administer the cost in healthcare .We have already seen this happening in many other examples of privatisation in Malaysia. The additional cost involved will eventually be borne by the rakyat. So, why use this business model again?

3. With the proposed plan, the rakyat will be burdened with more taxes, whether direct or indirect. What seems to be buzzing around is perhaps a GST of 7 percent for healthcare? The contention that the patient need not pay is not correct, as at the end of the day, the payment comes from the patients and the public alike. The difference is you pay whether you fall sick or not.

What is clearly needed is for the government to increase the present budget allocation for healthcare. We are merely committing 4.3 percent of our GDP as healthcare expenditure compared to UK (8.2 percent), Australia (8.7 percent) and USA (15.3 percent).

To be realistic we need to increase spending to 6 to 7 percent of GDP in keeping with the increasing demands and cost of advances in healthcare today.

This, together with stringent and meaningful cost-efficient measures to improve the productivity of the public healthcare system, will provide the patients with a system far better than what the NHS-UK has to offer.

The excellent standard of care that many public hospitals have achieved should be made available to all needy patients by cutting red tape at all levels. At the same time the cost of private hospital care should be closely monitored and controlled with the appropriate market forces and necessary regulatory oversight.

Why the rush?

There seems to be a strong desire to have this transformation in motion within the next three years.

This is an unrealistic expectation and will surely upset the continuity of our present healthcare delivery. One must not forget that even the NHS-UK system took more than 30 years before it could be fully implemented by which time all the so called cost-cutting measures had been overtaken and neutralised by the rapid advances in medical technology, costly treatment modalities and patient-population demographic changes.

We propose that we evolve rather than transform our system which has been acknowledged by WHO as one of the best around. This claim has been regularly promoted by the Ministry of Health itself.

Our exemplary healthcare performance indices have been duly documented and acknowledged in the yearly National Healthcare Accounts.

Are we in the throes of a 'new car syndrome', where everything seems wrong with the old car once we have decided to buy a new one? Will appropriate servicing and change of parts to more than sufficient to keep it in pristine condition?

Should we transform the system or fix only what is broken?

We do feel that it is time for a public referendum on this issue as it ultimately involves the rakyat's money and welfare.

Gaddafi is not a “Terrible Dictator and Blood sucking monster”

Posted: 10 May 2011 05:35 AM PDT

My good friend/patient Mr Alan Kok sent me this interesting e-mail: Gaddafi is not a "Terrible Dictator and Blood sucking monster"

Did you know this about Libya ?

Hard to believe……..Not many people know about it !

Some other facts (that mainstream media will never tell you) about this "terrible dictator and blood sucking monster" Gaddafi who "terrorizes" his own people:

- Credits to Libyan citizens were given with NO interest. Almost all loans eventually get converted to grants

- Students would get paid the average salary for the profession they were studying.

- If you'd be unable to get employment, the State would pay them full salary as if they were employed.

- When you got married, the couple would get an apartment or house for free.

- You could go to college anywhere in the world. The state paid 2,500 Euros plus for your accommodation and a car.

- Cars in Libya were sold at factory price with no government taxes.

- Libya does not owe money, (NOT a cent) to anyone. No credits.

- Free Education and Health care.

- 25% of the population with university degree.

- No beggers on the streets and no homeless (until recent bombing).

- 20 loaves of bread cost $0.15.

- And many more !

No wonder the US and other capitalist countries do not like Libya.

Gaddafi would not consent to taking the IMF or World Bank credits at high interest rates. In other words Libya was INDEPENDENT!
That is the real reason for war in Libya! He may be a dictator, but that is not a US problem.

ONCE AGAIN, THE US HAS MADE AN ISLAMIC NATION THEIR ENEMY.

Video Seks, Kristian & Kini "Pandi Kutty"

Posted: 10 May 2011 08:01 AM PDT

Pandi Kutty - Anwar dakwa difitnah lagi

Tapi puak UMNO "terasa macam begitu".

Kalau tak silap GB ada satu pepatah Inggeris menyatakan begini: "Whatever you think - you're right."

Grandmother's Vase

Posted: 10 May 2011 04:38 AM PDT

One day I was lying on the bed, reading, when my mother came into the room. She held out a vase--a rather ugly vase. She asked, 'Would you like to have this vase?'

"I replied quickly, 'No, I don't want it.'

"As she turned to walk away, I picked up something that said to me, 'Wait a minute, don't shut this off yet.' So I asked, 'Where did you get it?'

"She said, 'Oh, I got it when I filled an order.' Filled an order? I thought--no communication here. So I asked, 'What do you mean, filled an order?'

'Well,' she said, 'when I was a little girl, the Smith Company mailed catalogs to people. I would take the catalog around the neighborhood, and I'd get people to order from it. When I filled an order and sent it in, they gave me a prize. One time, I got a porch swing for my family.'

"Now you have to understand," said Hensley, "that my mother is 81 years old. She is one of six children in a family that her father deserted when she was quite young.

Money was real hard to come by. My grandmother managed to keep the family together through the years, although I don't know how. For my mother to win a luxury like a porch swing was a significant accomplishment.

Although she no longer had the swing, she had the vase--a vase full of meaning--which she offered to me.

Instantly I said, 'Mom, I want the vase.'

Now it sits in a prominent place in my living room. It symbolizes a precious meaning which my mother and I share: Unless you and I are sensitive to the other person and hear meaning, we may well have a communication problem.

Isu Kristian: Hishamuddin Dan Rais Perlu Dipertanggungjawabkan

Posted: 10 May 2011 04:34 AM PDT

Kristian: Konspirasi Umno-Utusan?

PAS gesa Hisham, Rais minta maaf berhubung laporan Utusan

-TMI

ACT MEAN AND FAST AGAINST UTUSAN MALAYSIA

Posted: 10 May 2011 03:32 AM PDT

What words can I use to describe Utusan Malaysia's (UM) recent report that some Christian group is plotting to turn Malaysia into a Christian State? What words can I describe a UM report which says that a Christian group together with the DAP is plotting to appoint a Christian as the Prime Minister? The only words that I can used to describe all this are DISGUSTING, IRRESPONSIBLE, DANGEROUS and a pack of LIES.

How on earth could the editors of the daily approve such a report that is unsubstantiated, and knowing full well that the report can be a cause for serious racial strife between Christians and Muslims of this country. This is not the first time UM has reported on issues that can bring devastation and worse still the disintegration of a well tested multi racial and multi cultural Malaysian society. How could the Home Minister be so lame in not wanting to impose stricter rules to prohibit UM from publishing reports that can bear serious effect on racial harmony?

Personally, I have had enough of UM, and I dread the day when this blessed nation of ours sees the repeat of the bloody May 13 incident. I would like to ask the entire UM editorial board, where were they during May 13, 1969 i.e. 42 years ago? I think most were mere kids sucking milk bottles. Some may be slightly older who knows not what suffering and fear is all about. Just ask the soldiers on how they felt trying to maintain the peace throughout the entire troubled period, and most will say that they do not wish to go through a similar period again. I was lucky because I was in Tawau then, but my parents who were residing at Kg. Datuk Keramat lived in fear.

Let me tell this to the entire UM editorial board that you don't know what it is like to go without sleep. You do not know what it is like to be shot at. You do not know the ordeals that your parents have gone through to protect you. You do not understand what fear is and how it affects your physical and psychological well being. You do not understand what pain is, and there are thousands of others that you do not understand. So please cease writing all this garbage, and stop practicing gutter journalism.

Personally, I do not think what was reported is true. And I do not believe the Christians in this country would want to do what was stupidly reported by UM. The repercussion is too great and no one would want to see this country disintegrate and destroyed by some unscrupulous instigators of violence who gleefully hides themselves behind their sponsors. And if ever your report turns to be true and is realized in the future, I will not blame anyone else but the UM and your sponsors for their own stupidity.

To the Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein, you have to act mean and fast, and do not let the instigators and those behind these reports be left scot free. The people know who owns UM and if you fear to act professionally, then you deserve to be called a COWARD.

Cuaca Panas Luarbiasa - Disebabkan Ribut Tropika Aere

Posted: 10 May 2011 03:31 AM PDT

-BH

One Down, Four or Five More To Go.

Yesterday I did manage to complete one painting for my son Azrin which was long overdue since he had moved into his new house quite sometime ago. Since I started painting again I had been working diligently on that painting to ensure that it will be ready before we leave for KL on 29th May 2011. Thank you Allah the new found enthusiasm and drive has spurred me on to complete the painting in double quick time.
On my first visit to his house he had even shown me the wall where the painting would be hung. It was quite a large piece of wall immediately visible after entering the house. No mention was made as to the kind of painting that he wants other than that he wanted a big one if possible 3 feet wide and 5 feet long. Ya Allah, that is large and I have never attempted something that large!
Upon coming back to Pasir Mas I immediately started working on his painting since I already had a piece of canvass stretched on a wooden frame just the size that he wanted. It didn't turn out right and I tried painting over. Unfortunately painting over such a big piece was a tedious job and would have expended a lot of expensive oil paint should I have continued. So I left it at that. That was the reason why I stopped painting for so long. Only lately the desire to paint again came to me and I started with his painting. This time I was determined to have it completed.

The initial coat of oil paint was for the background. Look I have no studio so any open space with sufficient light will do.

Putting in more colours. Now the painting seems to be getting more interesting.

Further touch up.

My wife is the harshest critic. She said the background doesn't look nice.

Reworked on the painting. Now how does it looks? I consider it done and will sign it soon.

Immediately after feeling that the job is done, I started on the next painting for my daughter Azini who had also moved in into a new house in Kerteh, Trengganu after she and her husband were transfered there from Labuan.

Azini wanted a three piece of something in black and white. It sounds easy but do you think so?

When I did finish this job for Azini I need to start working on the painting for my son Azuan. Actually his painting of the sanserveria was already done along time ago. Unfortunately for him my dear friend the late Dalilah aka Raden Galoh of the Blog One Breast Bouncing (may her soul ret in peace) had asked for it after she had already acquired another painting of The Bird Nest Fern. Knowing the situation Dalilah was in at that time, I was so moved and had to let her take that painting too. Both Raden Galoh and husband Red Alfa came to my son Azuan's apartment in Shah Alam one evening to collect the two paintings. Hopefully the two paintings would still adorn the wall of their house and remain the token of friendship between the family and me.
I have yet to decide on what to paint for Azuan. He is a bit critical of my work as he had been exposed to some of the great paintings by the many great artists that now adorned the wall of Bank Negara Malaysia, where he works. Azuan will often criticize on the lack of depth on some of my paintings. I believe in him and often reworked on the painting he so commented.
Of course my eldest daughter Azura wanted a piece of my painting too. Sincerely, I believe my children must keep at least one of my paintings in their respective houses. That is one way for them to remember me when I am gone.
Only after all of my children has got hold of what is due to them, ten only will I be able to start work on the many other paintings that I still owe my blogger friends. These blogger friends are still waiting for their pieces:
HJ Angus of Malaysia Watch, Kerp of Lets Go Land, Shah of My Neverland and a certain En. Zainal from JB.
Anybody else out there that I still owe a painting?
Please pray for my good health and longevity, God willing I will deliver on my promise.

Isu Kristian Agama Rasmi: Helah Untuk Gunakan ISA?

Agama Rasmi : Jangan Provokasi, Kemudian ISA

Ulasan GB
