If you start with a cage containing five monkeys and, inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then you place a set of stairs under the banana, before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana.

As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water.   After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with same result …. all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water.  Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put the cold water away.  Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one.   The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him.    After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one.  The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked.    The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment… with enthusiasm.

Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by a fourth, then the fifth.  Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs.    Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, none of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway to the banana.

Why, you ask?  Because in their minds …. that is the way it has always been

This is how Politics operates …. and is why, from time to time, ALL OF THE MONKEYS NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.

No immediate plan to rebuild Rifle Range Flats

Posted: 20 May 2011 09:49 AM PDT

In an interview by China Press, YB Wong Hon Wai said that there is no immediate plan to tear down and rebuild Rifle Range Flats. As the outcome of the Rifle Range Urban Renewal Competition, the State Government has received many inputs from architects and planners. The State Government is currently working on improving the cleanliness, changing the faulty lifts and sewarage pipes for Rifle Range Flats. It is the State Government's objective to make it a more comfortable space for the residents there.

Najib Bakal Hilang Sokongan Jika Tidak Bertindak Tegas Ke Atas Datuk T - Bekas Polis

Posted: 20 May 2011 09:14 AM PDT

AMK Tangguh Perhimpunan Di Utusan Elak Sabotaj UMNO & Perkasa

Enggan Disabotaj Media Arus Perdana, AMK Tangguh Perhimpunan

-tvsnews

Najib's inner circle: Big cables! Big money! Poor rakyat outside inner circle

Posted: 20 May 2011 07:44 AM PDT

RPK has joined hands with Wikileaks!

The Malaysian Insider has a report on it:
UPDATED @ 08:44:29 PM 19-05-2011
By Yow Hong Chieh
May 19, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — US diplomatic cables leaked and published on Malaysia Today earlier this evening have singled out 19 key business leaders as "actors of influence" in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's inner circle.
The cable, penned by political counsellor Mark D. Clark to help the US State Department "examine Najib's emerging administration and policy decisions", was the first to be published on the popular blog after it signed a memorandum of understanding with whistleblower site Wikileaks on Monday.
Ethos Capital chairman and partner Rohana Mahmood topped the list of corporate giants, with the cable noting that she appeared "connected in some manner to most of the companies associated with Najib (picture)".
"Among the 19 key business leaders listed, Rohana Mahmood stands out as deeply embedded in the Najib family's commercial interests," the cable said.
Rohana co-founded the now-dormant Malaysian Strategic Research Centre with another close Najib aide, Abdul Razak Baginda, who was acquitted in October 2008 of abetting in the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shariibuu.
The opposition has repeatedly alleged that Altantuya, who helped secure the US$1 billion (RM3 billion) Scorpene submarine deal, was killed over her personal relationship with Najib, a claim the prime minister has denied.
Abdul Razak's company is said to have scored a €114 million (RM488.64 million) commission from the purchase of the French submarines.
Other heavyweights who made the list were MMC Corp Bhd's Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, Berjaya Corp Bhd founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Hong Leong Group chairman Quek Leng Chan.
"MMC Corp Bhd Syed Mokhtar Albukharry [sic]... has significant business operations in Najib's constituency and in the defence sector," the cable said, adding that the billionaire was also believed to have a good, if not better, relationship with Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Malaysian Insider understands that Syed Mokhtar has emerged as a major contributor to Umno's war chest after some Chinese Malaysian tycoons, irked by lack of contracts under the Najib administration, cut funding to the party.
The Malaysian Insider also understands that Syed Mokhtar is fast gaining a chokehold over the logistics industry as he seeks to extend MMC Corp's control over Johor Port and Tanjung Pelepas Port to the country's premier port, Northport, and the port in Tanjung Bruas.
He already holds the reins to several other critical sectors including the rice import business through national rice supplier Bernas, and the gas distribution business through MMC Corp subsidiary Gas Malaysia.
Other strategic sectors in which Syed Mokhtar has a significant presence include the sugar trade through Tradewinds, the power production business via the nation's largest independent power producer (IPP), Malakoff Corp, and the water treatment sector through Aliran Ihsan Resources.
MMC Corp is also the project delivery partner for the new Klang Valley mass rapid transit (KVMRT), the costliest infrastructure project in Malaysian history, with the consortium widely tipped to be awarded the tunnelling portion of the system's construction.
Also included in the list were:
• Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Azman Mokhtar;
• Khazanah director Mohamed Azman Yahya, founder and chief executive of Symphony House Bhd;
• Johan Holdings Bhd chairman and chief executive Tan Kay Hock, who is also a member of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA);
• Sapura Group's Shahril Shamsuddin;
• Khazanah executive committee chairman and former Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) managing director Nor Yusof;
• Konsortium Transnational Bhd chairman and managing director Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh;
• CIMB Group executive director and former Economic Planning Unit (EPU) consultant Dr Gan Wee Beng;
• Ethos Capital co-founder Omar Mustapha Ong, Najib's former special assistant;
• Paramount Corporation Bhd managing director and chief executive Teo Chiang Quan;
• TH Group Bhd managing director Lei Lin Thai;
• Mamee Double Decker Bhd chief executive Pang Tee Chew;
• Multi Vest Resources Bhd (MVest) chief executive Kenneth Eswaran, who the cable said was close to Najib's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor;
• Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) Holdings Bhd chief executive Bakke Salleh; and
• Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) chief Lodin Wok Kamarudin
The leaked cable, written prior to Najib's confirmation as prime minister, follows the publication of a series of secret exchanges between Washington and the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in Asia Sentinel detailing US concerns over the trial of the two policemen accused of killing Altantuya.
The cables showed that US diplomats' misgivings about the trial, which they suggested would be subject to "prosecutorial misconduct" and delays to drive the high-profile murder case from the public eye.
"Perceived irregularities on the part of prosecutors and the court, and the alleged destruction of some evidence, suggested to many that the case was subject to strong political pressure intended to protect Najib," a cable dated January 24, 2007 said.
Altantuya was murdered in October 2006 by two of Najib's bodyguards, Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, 30, and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 35, who were pronounced guilty in April 2009.
Najib is currently on a week-long tour of the US to enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Demagogy or gaining political power by using nationalist, populist or religious themes

Posted: 20 May 2011 07:02 AM PDT

Demagogy ( /ˈdɛməɡɒi/) or demagoguery ( /ˈdɛməɡɒɡəri/) (Ancient Greek: δημαγωγία, from δῆμος dēmos "people" and ἄγειν agein "to lead") is a strategy for gaining political power by appealing to the prejudices, emotions, fears, vanities and expectations of the public—typically via impassioned rhetoric and propaganda, and often using nationalist, populist or religious themes. What qualifies as demagogy has been the subject of debate and ambiguity since Aristophanes first used the term, in reference to the Athenian statesman, Cleon.

Azizi Terlantar Di ICU, Pemimpin PAS Bersegeralah Menziarahinya

Tuhan, saya sangat sedar murninya harapan mereka.

Menunggu dada dibelah sangat menggerunkan. Tapi banyak rangsangan memberitahu itulah cara terbaik. "Lakukan. Aku dah mengalami," kata seorang sahabat dari Terengganu, Rahman CM dan kemudian dia memberitahu dia baru selesai solat hajat untuk saya.

Tuhan, murninya hati sahabat.

Ants in the ear of teenagers

Posted: 20 May 2011 06:41 AM PDT

Actually I had also syringed out dozens of dead ants from a Malay boy few years ago. At first I just see christle like reflecting things only. Realized that those were ants after looking at them in the syringed liquid that came out.

News source: Daily Chilli, "Ants build nest in teen's ears'

A 16-year-old Taiwanese girl was found to have a whole nest of of ants in her ears.

The girl, from Taipei, discovered this when she went to see a doctor after suffering from itchiness in ears.

Dr Hung Yuan-Tsung, chief of the Otolaryngology division of Taipei City Hospital found over 20 ants in her right ear.

There were also a few ants in her left ear.

Apparently, the girl who loves eating sweet food on her bed had scratched her ears and that had attracted the ants.

The girl said there were a few occasions when she found ants crawling out from her eats, but had never imagined that the insects were actually living there.

Her infected ears were red and swollen but luckily for her, early treatment saved her ear drums.

Malaysia’s Food Price Increase In The First Four Months Of 2011 Is Double The Global Average

Posted: 20 May 2011 03:13 AM PDT

Press Release

The latest inflation statistics released by Bank Negara Malaysia[1] for the first four months of 2011 (up to April 2011) is alarming. I am particularly concerned with the prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages that saw a 4.9% increase for the period January to April 2011 when compared to a similar period in 2010.

If this pattern persists for the remainder of the year, 2011 will register the second highest food price increase for the people to bear since 2006. This will repeat the pain of 2008 when food prices increased by 8.8% due to a sudden hike in petrol and fuel prices.

2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011*
Food price increase 3.4% 3.0% 8.8% 4.1% 2.4% 4.9%

Table 1:

Food price increase was highest in 2008 due to petrol and fuel price hike; the similar trend is expected to repeat this year (*2011 is an estimate)

Food prices in Malaysia increase at more than twice the rate of global food prices in the first four months of 2011. A comparison of consumer price index (CPI) for global food prices published by United Nation's Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) against BNM's statistics foretells the economic misery that will affect millions of ordinary Malaysians if the Federal Government is reckless in its subsidy rationalisation program:

Jan 2011 Feb 2011 Mar 2011 Apr 2011 % increase Jan – Apr
CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages (Source: BNM) 102.6 103.7 103.7 104.0 1.4%
Monthly Food Price Index

(Source: FAO)[2]

230.7 237.2 231.0 232.1 0.6%

Table 2:

Malaysia's food price increases at more than twice the rate of global food price increase

There is a direct correlation between haphazard removal of subsidies that affects the majority of Malaysians and the persistent food price increases registered in the first four months of the year.

Furthermore, the moral and social justification for offloading more financial burden to the public to solve the Federal Government's budget deficit is weak; when the main excesses and wastages that led to the budget deficit in the first place are left untouched. The rakyat will find it hard to swallow the reality that they have to shoulder the responsibility for a decade's worth of Barisan Nasional's economic mismanagement especially when they know the tycoons and cronies who benefitted most from the largess of the past decade are left unpunished.

Pakatan Rakyat has outlined a clear set of steps to be taken in order to reduce the national budget deficit without overly burdening the rakyat in its Buku Jingga. This includes the removal of the RM19 billion corporate subsidies given to the elite and well connected companies including the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and instituting an effective war against corruption to prevent an estimated RM28 billion leak and wastages suffered by the Federal Government each year (as concluded from the 2008 Auditor General's Report).

At the rate that the food price is increasing, by the end of 2011 the rakyat will have to pay an extra 30% cost for each food item compared to 2005. Within 6 years, the food prices have increased by 30% when the average pay increase for Malaysian workers over the period of 2001 and 2010 is only 2.6%.

A vote for Barisan Nasional is a vote for economic mismanagement and escalating food prices.

Jan 2011 Feb 2011 Mar 2011 Apr 2011 % kenaikan Jan – Apr
Indeks Harga Makanan Bulanan

(sumber: FAO)[1]

230.7 237.2 231.0 232.1 0.6%

Jadual 2:

- AFP

Anti-Lynas: Ratusan demo depan kedutaan Australia

Turut hadir ketua Pemuda PAS Nasrudin Hassan, Naib Ketua Pemuda PKR Azmizam Zamanhuri, setiausaha agung PSM S Arutchelvan dan exco kerajaan Selangor Rodziah Ismail.

-mk

HOUSTON, May 20 — Can you run a mile (1.6km), and if so, how fast? If you're middle-aged, researchers claim that this fitness test could predict your chances of having a heart attack or stroke over the next decade.

In two separate studies announced May 18, American researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern have found that how fast a middle-age man can run a mile can help predict his risk of dying of a heart attack or stroke decades later; for women, running performance could be an early indicator of cardiovascular disease.

In one study, researchers examined heart disease risks in men aged 45, 55, and 65 and discovered that a 55-year-old man who needs 15 minutes to run a mile has a 30 per cent lifetime risk of developing heart disease. In contrast, a 55-year-old who can run a mile in eight minutes has a lifetime risk of less than 10 per cent. A second study had similar findings based on treadmill running. The research used data from tens of thousands of participants from 1970 to 2006.

"Heart disease tends to cluster at older ages, but if you want to prevent it, our research suggests that the prescription for prevention needs to occur earlier – when a person is in his 40s and 50s," said Dr. Jarett Berry, corresponding author on both studies.

Staying fit has been linked to the fountain of youth in recent research, with researchers from Tel Aviv University discovering that endurance exercises, such as jogging or bicycling, can increase the number of muscle stem cells and enhance their ability to rejuvenate old muscles.

The World Health Organisation also recently advised people engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise a week to reduce the risk of breast and colon cancers.

If you're lacing up your running shoes for the first time in middle age, then pay attention to your nutrition, stay hydrated, and start slowly, according to health and fitness website Livestrong. Also, wear the right shoes and be careful of temperature extremes, and first talk to your doctor if you have a heart condition or other ailment.

Kes Isteri Dilarikan Mat Indon: Suami Tak Percaya SMS Isteri Kahwin

Posted: 20 May 2011 04:37 AM PDT

Sabri berkata, sejak kehilangan isterinya sebulan lalu, kehidupan mereka sekeluarga sepi terutama anak bongsunya berusia lapan tahun yang sering memanggil ibunya.

-BH

The Ball Is Now In Their Court

Posted: 20 May 2011 02:37 AM PDT

With their lives, home and livelihood at stake, six busloads of concerned citizens from Kuantan, including old ladies and children, left for KL at just past midnight this morning to make their way for the protest against the rare earth plant in Gebeng, Kuantan. This was to avoid being stopped along the way.

According to Dr. Pa of the People's Green Coalition, about 500 people gathered in front of the Australian High Commission to voice their concerns over radioactive hazards it will pose if the project is carried through.

The protestors from various parts of Malaysia gathered at the KLCC for the protest march after Friday prayers. With one purpose in mind and hearts knitted as one, they braved the rain and marched to the Australian High Commission, reaching their destination at 2.15pm.

There to give their warm welcome was a barricade of riot police, many policemen and about ten FRU trucks police stationed at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng here.

Regardless, the protestors with much courage and conviction shouted "Stop Lynas!" because of their concerns regarding the radiation pollution from the Lynas plant that is said to be the biggest in the world upon completion.

Despite the heavy police presence, the protestors held posters that read "Too toxic! Too risky!" and "We don't want Lynas" and "Lynas, go back to Australia."

Six representatives went into the Australian High Commission including Dr. Jaya and Mr. Tan (Kuantan) and handed a memorandum protesting the building of the Lynas plant near Kuantan to a representative of the embassy who assured them that the memorandum would be passed to the Australian government.

Also present were Batu MP Tian Chua and Bukit Lanjan rep Elizabeth Wong, Charles Santiago, PAS Secretary- General Nasaruddin Mat Isa and other activists from as far north as Penang.

From the start, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh (who was present at the protest)has been working together with her counterparts in Australia's Green Party to pressure the government to look deeper into the environmental and health risks posed by the US$230 million (RM700 million) project and set up safeguards before Lynas starts operations at the Kuantan facility.

It is heartening to see how local residents and environmentalists in Malaysia are working together against the project which will leave behind a huge amount of radioactive wastes containing a cocktail of other hazardous substances.

Their concerns include health issues, impact on property prices, impact on the livelihood of Kuantan residents as KL-ites are less likely to holiday there with such a hazardous situation should the plant commence operations. Kuantan will lose its source of income from tourism and even the fishermen's livelihood will be affected. Retirees will not choose Kuantan for their retirement and the negative effects outweigh the benefits by leaps and bounds.

This morning, the Malaysian Insider said that two Australian environmentalist groups have accused Lynas Corp of withholding critical information to push through its RM700 million refinery in Gebeng, touted to be the world's biggest rare earth processing plant once built.  Mia Pepper from Conservation Council of Western Australia claimed the Lynas rare earth concentrate will also be transported through Fremantle in hessian bags, which she said was the same method used by Magellan Metals to transport its lead export. These bags had leaked and caused contamination, forcing the iron miner to shut down.

"It's not good enough for WA and it's not good enough for Malaysia," she said, in a show of solidarity with the Kuantan residents' movement.

So will Lynas Corp be allowed to go ahead in Pahang, the Prime Minister's State?
