wikileaks, najib and the altantuya murder

Posted: 19 May 2011 10:34 AM PDT

this is something i should not missed out posting on my blog. a murder that our PM may be involved. oops. sorry. someone will say seditious and haul me to ISA. oh but our dear de facto law minister said this kind if speech is the norm, so maybe i won't get hauled up. anyway i'm just saying 'MAY' and involved doesn't necessarily mean directly involved.  oh, on second thought, because of najib being the defence minister at that time, already publicly means in a way he was involved.

ok ok i'm now coming to what i'm going to post here which i said i should not missed posting it. this article in malaysia today entitled 'wikileaks and the altantuya murder'.  although we all will be able to read it from there, i will still CnP it to my blog here (because it is a hot issue!).  you can also read it at malaysiakini (it's 'shared' site, so non subscriber will be able to read too).

Wikileaks and the Altantuya Murder

Cables show the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur was closely watching the trial

The cables are replete with accounts of a long series of meetings with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, in which Anwar repeatedly told the Americans that Najib was connected to corrupt practices in the acquisition of the submarines as well as the purchase of Sukhoi Su-MCM-30 Flanker fighter jets from Russia. Anwar also repeatedly called attention to Najib's connection to the Altantuya murder case.

The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur closely followed the murder trial of Mongolian interpreter Altantuya Shaariibuu and frequently discussed whether now-Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was involved in the killing, according to diplomatic cables supplied to Asia Sentinel by the WikiLeaks website, and theorized that the trial of her killers was being deliberately delayed.

Altantuya was murdered in October of 2006 by two of Najib's bodyguards, Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, 30 and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 35. who stood trial and were pronounced guilty in April 2009. Abdul Razak Baginda, one of Najib's best friends and Altantuya's lover, was accused of participating in the murder but was allowed to be freed without having to put on a defense.

The murder has been tied closely to the US$1 billion acquisition of French submarines by the Malaysian ministry of defense, which Najib headed as defense minister during the acquisitions. Altantuya reportedly acted as a translator on the transaction, which netted Razak Baginda's company a €114 million "commission" on the purchase. Reportedly she had been offered US$500,000 for her part in translating. After she was jilted, she vainly demanded payment. A letter she had written was made public after her death saying she regretted she was attempting to "blackmail" Razak Baginda.

French lawyers are investigating whether some of the €114 million was kicked back to French or Malaysian politicians. Despite the scandal, the US government has not publicly backed away from Najib. In April 2010, Najib in fact visited the White House and was praised by US President Barack Obama for the parliament's passage of an act allowing Malaysian authorities to take action against individuals and entities engaged in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

A Jan. 24, 2007 cable, marked secret, wrote that "Perceived irregularities on the part of prosecutors and the court, and the alleged destruction of some evidence, suggested to many that the case was subject to strong political pressure intended to protect Najib."

In a Feb. 1, 2008 cable, the embassy's Political Section Chief, Mark D. Clark, wrote that a deputy prosecutor had told him "there was almost no chance of winning guilty verdicts in the on-going trial of defendants Razak Baginda, a close advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, and two police officers.  She described the trial as interminably long." (That, of course, turned out to be wrong. Sirul and Azilah were ultimately convicted and have appealed their sentence)

"Nearly seven months after the trial began (but with only 83 days of actual hearings), the prosecution now is presenting its 63rd witness out of an anticipated 80 and the defense has yet to make its case." The deputy prosecutor "anticipated the trial would continue for several more months and said that she actively sought excuses to escape from the courtroom monotony."

Clark called the trial a "a prosecutorial embarrassment from its inception, leading many to speculate that the ineptitude was by design.  On the eve of the trial Malaysia's Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail dropped his lead prosecutors and replaced them with less experienced attorneys.  Similarly, a lead counsel for one of the defendants abruptly resigned before the trial "because of (political) attempts to interfere with a defense he had proposed, in particular to protect an unnamed third party."

The protracted nature of the case, Clark continued, "has led at least one regional newspaper to speculate that "the case is being deliberately delayed to drive it from public view.

Malaysia's daily newspapers rarely mention the case's latest developments, and it is unprecedented in Malaysian judicial history that a murder trial could drag on for seven months and still not give the defense an opportunity to present its case.  Such an environment has led many to conclude that the case was too politically sensitive to yield a verdict before the anticipated general elections."

A January 2007 cable called attention to Abdul Razak Baginda's affidavit confirming that he sought the help of Musa Safri, later identified by reporters as Najib's aide-de-camp, in ridding him of the jilted woman, and in other cables pointed out that Musa had never been called for questioning.

In another cable, dated May 16, 2007, Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, a deputy home affairs minister in Prime Minister Ahmad Abdullah Badawi's cabinet told US embassy officials that he was "certain that government prosecutors would limit their trial activities to the murder itself and the three defendants; prosecutors would not follow up on allegations of related corruption or other suspects."

In the Jan. 27 2007 cable, marked "Secret," embassy officials wrote that "In December we heard from one of (Anwar's) lawyers that Razak Baginda's wife was in contact with Anwar and Wan Azizah, suggesting one possible source for Anwar's information."

Razak Baginda's wife, during one of his first appearances in court, screamed that Razak "doesn't want to be prime minister." That was taken by observers as a reference to the fact that Najib reportedly had been having an affair with Altantuya but passed her on to Razak Baginda because it would be unseemly to have a mistress when as expected he succeeded Abdullah Badawi as premier. Najib has offered to swear on the Koran that he had never met the woman.

However, in July 2008, P Balasubramaniam, a former policeman and private detective who had been hired by Razak Baginda to protect him from Altantuya, filed a sworn statement saying he had been told by the accused man that Najib not only knew the murdered woman but had an affair with her and introduced her to him, passing her on because he did not want the onus of having a mistress in the event that he would become prime minister.

In a telephone interview on May 9, Anwar, however, told Asia Sentinel that Razak Baginda's wife was not the source of his knowledge of Najib's connection and that instead he had been told of the connection by Setev Shaariibuu, Altantuya's father, who said he had wished to present evidence of the then-vice premier's involvement, but was not allowed to do so. Multiple attempts to contact Setev by Asia Sentinel have been unsuccessful.

Almost immediately after he made the statement, Balasubramaniam was picked up and driven to a police station, where he was forced to withdraw the statement and write a new one saying Razak Baginda had told him nothing of the sort. Balasubramaniam fled Malaysia for India. He later said Najib's brother, Nizam, and wife, Rosmah Mansor, had met with him and that he was offered RM5 million (US$1.48 million) to forget his statement connecting Najib to Altantuya. Balasubramaniam displayed a flock of checks drawn on the account of an associate of Najib's wife. The former private detective has continued to make a series of statements from outside the country about Najib's involvement and the Malaysian mainstream press has done its best to ignore.

A February 2008 cable from Political Section Chief Clark gives a hint that then Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi may have been trying to get rid of Najib by forcing Razak Baginda to implicate him in the murder.

"In the latest turn of the ongoing Altantuya murder trial (reftels), accused political insider Abdul Razak Baginda, who has remained calm and composed through most of the proceedings, unleashed an emotional tirade shortly after the February 20 noon recess on the trial's 90th day," Clark wrote. "Referring to the Prime Minister by his nick-name "Pak Lah," Razak reportedly exclaimed: "You can die, Pak Lah! (in Malaysian – Matilah kau, Pak Lah!) I'm innocent!" according to unpublished journalist accounts.

"Local newspapers and the government news service Bernama reported the fact of the outburst, but did not print Razak's  statements. The short-lived exception was the English language newspaper The Sun, which included the quotations from Razak in its early morning February 21 edition. Sources at newspaper confirmed to us in confidence that the Ministry of Internal Security compelled The Sun to withdraw and recall thousands of copies of their first run paper in which the original quote was included. Prime Minister Abdullah serves concurrently as Minister of Internal Security."

During the trial, Clark wrote, Razak Baginda, "appeared uneasy throughout the morning session of court on February 20. Razak's father, Abdullah Malim Baginda had whispered something to him shortly before the trial had begun for the morning and apparently upset the accused.  Razak had remained quiet throughout the morning hearings, but just after the noon recess was called and as he was leaving the courtroom he kicked and banged the door and yelled "You can die, Pak Lah! Die, Pak Lah! I am innocent. I am innocent." He was later seen crying before his lawyer while his mother attempted to comfort him."

"Speculation is rife in Malaysia's on-line community concerning what it was that set off Razak Baginda outburst, including conspiracy theories alleging the Prime Minister's office had urged Razak to implicate Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak … in return for sparing Razak a guilty verdict and its mandatory death sentence.

Regardless, the Internal Security Ministry would want to limit any possibly inflammatory reference to the Prime Minister at the trial, and particularly at this juncture due to the proximity of Malaysia's general election to be held on March 8. Any connection between the Prime Minister and the murder trial would be scandalous. The GOM (government of Malaysia) reportedly has worked hard to "drive (the case) from public view" … and is not about to allow the case to influence the coming elections."

Assignment, done!

Final exam, done!

Finally can take a break from the hectic assignments work although they were fun but I prefer taking a break right now. Hohoho. People thinking that study design doesn't have exam but in fact we do because there's still some theory subject like Building Construction.

Just one that I am not satisfy was having English exam which is just ridiculous because I'd already study for 11 years of English and I have to study again. Wow, what a waste of time and money.

Aceel, Vincent, Arvin Tang and Low Jia Hui before last exam today.

I am going to Singapore tomorrow to check out Saturday InDesign event, anyone going there too? Hehe.

Hennessy Artistry 2011 At Opera Sunway

Posted: 19 May 2011 09:38 AM PDT

Two weeks ago, I was invited to go to Hennessy Artisrty party at Opera Sunway. Well, I am not really a clubber but somehow I enjoyed this kind of event well. Last year, I went to the one at QE2 and this year I am here because o my current location which is so near to Sunway Pyramid. Arron Lim and Grace Lee of Penang joined me too! HAHAHA, their name so formal here, I'll make it Arron and Grace.

It happened on the 30th April and 2 days before it happened in Penang. Luckily I was in Sunway that time so I could attend the event. I was invited as blogger, gotta thanks Xiang and Helenness for the first invite last year and now I get to join most of the HA events.

Hennessy Artistry was all about great music and the main thing, the global art of mixing, which in simple words, the free flow of Hennessy VSOP, the best part of the night.

iPad challenge! Noob though.

The event started at 9pm sharp and we arrived like half an hour late and it'd already filled with so many hardcore party people. Luckily the flows still go on. Well, it's not just good music and Hennessy, there's still little entertainment station which like the iPad game challenge that whoever got the top 5 scores get away a limited edition Hennessy VSOP, too bad the game really lag and we were not pro. Couldn't get the free bottle back. We kept trying already, still it's not good.

Arron learning how to mix.

I thought of the purpose of the event, it's actually encourage people to enjoy the art of mixing Hennessy VSOP with other mixer like Apple, Ginger, Lime and Cranberry. Well, Apple and Lime are my favourite all the time. =D

The place was real hot, beside hot chicks, but what I meant was the temperature of the club, I wonder why but nothing we could do, still enjoyed the rest of the night with chilling Hennessy.

Nothing much, party, music, liquor, nice people, nice environment but hot and that's the night. I'll let the picture says. =)

Grace mixing.

Arron and Grace.

Arron, the bartender.

Photo corner, pretty fun.

Music mixing corner, we were too bored and we went to play everything that they offered us to play.

There's actually a Blogger zone! Rocks. Happy to be a blogger. Sharing is caring.

Not surprised to met Povy there who was actually at the Penang HA and now she's at here cause she's a hardcore party goer!

Hennessy Artistry, The Global Art Of Mixing, rocks.

Gonna sleep, going to Singapore tomorrow. Yay.

Syed Mokhtar Penyumbang Utama Dana Umno, Wikileaks Dedah 19 Aktor Utama Dokong Najib

Najib kini berada di AS sempena lawatan kerja.

Pengerusi Ethos Capital Rohana Mahmood mengetuai senarai personaliti korporat.

• Pengarah urusan Khazanah Nasional Azman Mokhtar;

• Pengarah Khazanah Mohamed Azman Yahya, pengasas dan ketua eksekutif Symphony House Bhd;

• Pengerusi dan ketua eksekutif Johan Holdings Bhd Tan Kay Hock, yang juga anggota Lembaga Pembangunan Wilayah Iskandar (IRDA);

• Shahril Shamsuddin dari Kumpulan Sapura;

• Pengerusi jawatankuasa eksekutif Khazanah dan bekas pengarah urusan MAS Nor Yusof;

• Pengerusi dan pengarah urusan Konsortium Transnational Bhd Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh;

• Pengarah eksekutif CIMB Group dan bekas konsultan Unit Perancang Ekonomi Dr Gan Wee Beng;

• Pengasas bersama Ethos Capital Omar Mustapha Ong, bekas pegawai khas Najib;

• Pengarah urusan dan ketua eksekutif Paramount Corporation Bhd Teo Chiang Quan;

• Pengarah urusan TH Group Bhd Lei Lin Thai;

• Ketua eksekutif Mamee Double Decker Bhd Pang Tee Chew;

• Ketua eksekutif Multi Vest Resources Bhd (MVest) Kenneth Eswaran, yang menurut kabel rapat dengan isteri Najib Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor;

• Ketua eksekutif Felda Holdings Bhd Bakke Salleh; dan

• Ketua Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera Lodin Wok Kamarudin.

Have you heard of Friends of Maiti Nepal?

The Founder and Executive Director of Maiti Nepal is Ms. Anuradha Koirala. Born in Nepal and former English teacher, Ms. Koirala started Maiti Nepal in a small house in Kathmandu with her own savings. Today she is a widely recognized activist and lecturer who has dedicated her life to combating the sexual exploitation of women and children.

Recently, she won the CNN Heroes 2011 Award.

According to her official website:

Her accomplishments have been recognized through numerous awards. Her work is often dangerous and requires great personal sacrifice. The criminal elements that "deliver" young girls are a ruthless enemy and have political connections at the highest levels in India and Nepal. Maiti Nepal's main office in Kathmandu has been destroyed twice and Maiti workers must travel with a bodyguard when overseeing rescue missions in India.

Her commitment has been an inspiration to her largely volunteer staff. Most of the workers are rescued girls and young women who are healthy enough to work. "They need little incentive from me," states Ms Koirala. "They are working to help their sisters and they know the horror of the victims." She adds, "Society rejects me and my girls, but they are the most important thing in my life.

Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple On Wesak Day

Posted: 19 May 2011 08:21 AM PDT

2 days ago was Wesak Day, how did you guys celebrate your holiday? I as a Buddhist went to pray and joined the celebration too. Every year, I do go to the nearest temple to my home to pray on this holy day, but then this year I am so far away from home, I am now residing in Klang Valley. Being a stranger to this place, I didn't know where can I go to pray, I went to Google online and I found the Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen temple at Jenjarom, Kuala Langat. =D

If you not really a local around there, you might not here about this place. I told dad about Jenjarom, but he didn't know too, but when I talk about Kuala Langat, he knew and he was pretty surprised why I went till so far. The place was like 40km from my home in Sunway and took about half an hour plus drive to there.

I knew the place is far, but I was curious because I heard about the temple and want to go check it out. So I don't mind taking the not-very-long drive. Hehe. I went there with my Indonesian classmate, Arvin. Since he's new to Malaysia, and I am new to Klang Valley, we went to explore around.

Jenjarom is actually a Chinese kampung in Kuala Langat. It's very not city and has nice and friendly people there. Good that a temple is built far away from the city for a sense of peace.

Unlike the Kek Lok Si temple in Penang, it's not that huge, but yet fascinating, with a big praying hall. What Buddhist normally do on Wesak Day is go to the temple to pray and help to bath the little Buddha for blessings. We help to clean the body of Buddha statue.

Well, even though it's far from the city, there's still many people went to the temple to pray.

After prayers, we went to explore around the place. Actually there's nothing much. However from what I have known, the Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen temple has an open house during Chinese New Year and has many activities during that time. Miss the opportunity this year and I'm going to check it out next year if I am here. =)

It's quite a hot day and I was perspiring all the while, but then you couldn't believe that it rained very heavily in the afternoon. The weather have been going crazy lately, rain, hot, rain, hot.

After exploring, we went away from the place because nothing much to see around the little kampung. The next stop was to Bukit Bintang to wait for the Wesak Day Parade, it's pretty exciting to check out the parade in KL because previously I saw was in Penang, my hometown. Cheers! =)

Honey - The Real Story

Posted: 19 May 2011 08:15 AM PDT

I love honey and take it a few times a week. Thanks to some friends, I get raw honey from the Orang Asli in Perak and sometimes get Manuka honey from friends who have migrated to NZ. This evening, I would like to share with you an article (authorship unknown) I received via email from my dear friend Angela. May it help you to understand the benefits of consuming honey. Take care and have a restful evening. Sorry for this late post. I have visitors in town and was busy taking them around the various heritage sites in Penang.

Honey is the only food (liquid) on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call "crystallizing" When this happens I would loosen the lid, boil some water, and let the honey container sit in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey.

Cinnamon and Honey

Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue, dated 17 January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack.. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University , it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder..

Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of  Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, were found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours as mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

Those suffering from common or severe colds should  take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ' Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea.

Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old..

Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

Anwar Tahu Siapa Si Perut Buncit & Tetek Labuh Itu - Transkrip Penuh Sembang Lansung [updated]

Posted: 19 May 2011 08:20 AM PDT

Anwar menjawab, "apa isunya?

"Kita patut mengatasinya," janji Anwar. -TMI

Video seks fokus utama chat Anwar di Yahoo!

Isu video seks menjadi fokus utama segmen interaktif Yahoo!

Yes, Jews Are the Chosen People. For good or ill

Posted: 19 May 2011 06:20 AM PDT

I assume that the type of person who reads columns such as this one has wondered at one time or another why, for thousands of years, there has been so much attention paid to Jews; and why, today, so much attention is paid to Israel, the lone Jewish state.

How do most people explain this preoccupation? There is no fully rational explanation for the amount of attention paid to the Jews and the Jewish state. And there is no fully rational explanation for the amount of hatred directed at them.

A lifetime of study of this issue, including writing (with Rabbi Joseph Telushkin) a book on antisemitism (Why the Jews? The Reason for Antisemitism) has convinced me that, along with all the rational explanations, there is one explanation that transcends reason alone.

Now, believe me, dear reader, I am well aware of the hazards of making such a claim. It sounds chauvinistic. It sounds racist. And it sounds irrational, if not bizarre.

But it is none of these.

As regards chauvinism, there is not a hint of inherent superiority in the claim of Jewish chosenness. In fact, the Jewish Bible, the book that states the Jews are chosen, constantly berates the Jews for their flawed moral behavior. No bible of any other religion is so critical of the religious group affiliated with that bible as the Hebrew Scriptures are of the Jews.

As for racism, Jewish chosenness cannot be racist by definition. Here is why: a) The Jews are not a race; there are Jews of every race. And b) any person of any race, ethnicity, or nationality can become a member of the Jewish people and thereby be as chosen as Abraham, Moses, Jeremiah or the chief rabbi of Israel.

And with regard to chosenness being an irrational or even bizarre claim, it must be so only to atheists. They don't believe in a Chooser, so they cannot believe in a Chosen. But for most believing Jews and Christians (most particularly the Founders who saw America as a Second Israel, a second Chosen People), Jewish Chosenness has been a given. And even the atheist must look at the evidence and conclude that the Jews play a role in history that defies reason.

Can reason alone explain how a hodgepodge of ex-slaves was able to change history — to introduce the moral God-Creator we know as God, to devise ethical monotheism; to write the world's most influential book, the Bible; to be the only civilization to deny the cyclical worldview and give humanity belief in a linear (i.e., purposeful) history; to provide morality-driven prophets; and so much more — without God playing the decisive role in this people's history?

Without the Jews, there would be no Christianity (a fact acknowledged by the great majority of Christians); and no Islam (a fact acknowledged by almost no Muslims). Read Thomas Cahill's "The Gifts of the Jews" or Paul Johnson's "History of the Jews" to get an idea about how much this people changed history.

What further renders the claim for Jewish chosenness worthy of rational consideration is that virtually every other nation has perceived itself as chosen or otherwise divinely special. For example, China means "Middle Kingdom" in Chinese – meaning that China is at the center of the world; and Japan considers itself the land where the sun originates ("Land of the Rising Sun"). The difference between Jewish chosenness and other nations' similar claims is that no one cares about any other group considering itself Chosen, while vast numbers of non-Jews have either believed the Jews' claim or have hated the Jews for it. Five Free Scientific Calculators

In my school we've occasionally had a problem with scientific graphing calculators growing legs and walking away for good. I'm sure we're not the only school to have that problem. One possible solution to the problem of disappearing calculators is to have students use calculators on their laptops, netbooks, or tablets. Here are five free calculators that you can either use online or install on your computer.

Microsoft offers scientific calculator that you can download for free (Windows only). Microsoft Mathematics 4.0 is a graphing calculator that plots in 2D and 3D. Of course, the calculator does many other functions such as solving inequalities, converting units of measure, and performing matrix and vector operations.

Encalc is a free online scientific calculator. Encalc describes itself on its homepage as follows, "Encalc is an online scientific calculator. Its strength lies in its ability handle units and dimensional analysis, to define variables and its large database of constants. Parenthesis and scientific formulas are also supported." One of the features that I really like about Encalc are the explanations of how different variables and constants function within an equation or formula.

Web2.0calc is a free online scientific calculator. While it won't replace the TI-84 Plus, it can do what your average high school student needs it to do. The best part is, you don't have to use it on the Web2.0calc site because they offer three widgets that you can use to embed the calculator into your own blog or website.

Speed Crunch is a free scientific calculator application for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Speed Crunch performs all of the functions necessary for high school Algebra and Geometry courses except graphing. In addition to performing all of these functions, Speed Crunch has a "math book" containing commonly used equations and formulas. One Speed Crunch feature that appealed to me from a design standpoint is the color coding of equations to differentiate between constants and variables. is a free online graphing utility that I found in the Google Chrome Web Store. allows you to plot multiple functions through its dynamically resizing grid. To graph an equation on just click the "+" symbol to enter a new equation. Click here to watch a short video of in use. One thing that the video doesn't show and isn't clear the first time you use is that you need to delete the existing default equations before you start.

Bersedia: Tarif Elektrik Bakal Dinaikkan.

Posted: 19 May 2011 05:15 AM PDT

-mk

Tenaga climbs on expectations of tariff hike

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares of'' TENAGA NASIONAL BHD [] rose to a high of RM6.18 in morning trade on Wednesday, May 18 on expectations of a tariff hike.

At 11.17am, it was up 17 sen to RM6.15 with 3.00 million shares done.

The FBM KLCI rose 5.35 points to 1,541.62. Turnover was 366.04 million shares done valued at RM708.63 million. There were 271 gainers, 303 losers and 262 stocks unchanged.

OSK Research said for TNB, there could be a small hike in electricity tariff as it needed a 1% hike to cover the Renewable Energy feed-in tariff (FiT) scheme.

'The 1% tariff hike to cover the costs associated with the FiT scheme is expected to have a very minimal impact to electricity demand. FIT. So a 3-5% hike is not out of the question,' said OSK Research -yahoonews

Apa Ada Disebalik Penggabungan BIMB & Bank Muamalat ?

Posted: 19 May 2011 04:37 AM PDT

-mk

PAS persoal tindakan Bank Islam 'selamatkan' Bank Muamalat
Oleh Syed Mu'az Syed Putra dan Latifah Kasmuri
May 19, 2011

"Kalau Bank Muamalat tiada masalah mengapa nak jual?

-TMI
