Does KJ really got the money?

Does KJ really got the money?

Does KJ really got the money?

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 11:04 AM PDT

I am not so sure whether KJ really got the wealth as alleged by his many political enemies and rivals. To me, a politician MUST have money to move. Even political parties like Umno needs a lot of money.

However when it comes to KJ, I must admit that I never tried to find out from him or his aides as how much does he got. Besides, a few of his staffs sometimes do relate how difficult was it for him to raise their monthly allowances and wages. He doesnt employ too many even.

There are, of course, theories about his wealth being kept in Singapore and elsewhere but nobody could proof it. Just like allegations against a few Cabinet members who keep their money abroad, and still no evidence.

However, I personally believe in the political trend: that politicians and political parties do get financial support from those who are close as supporters or political funders. Umno too, and in fact other political parties, including the Opposition receive funding from time to time from various sectors.

In fact, the same contributors to Barisan Nasional's purse also help finance the Opposition. So, as a politician, KJ needs that money to operate, especially when it comes to attending to the needs of the constituents. To qualify into politics also need money.

I read KJ's answers to Yahoo's Question Time (read here) yesterday and I found reasons to believe that he doesnt have that much. During his in-law's tenure as PM, he was battered from every corner for his 'role' in the administration, which still runs on 'no proof'. His close relation with Kalimullah also put him into a very difficult situation as many believe the latter used him as his passport to government contracts, but KJ got almost nothing out of it.

It was an interesting 'interview' with Yahoo Malaysia when he gave impromptu answers to most of the questions, including his elevation to Umno Youth top post, his 'shares' in Air Asia, relations with Umno leaders and also with Nurul Izzah, the MP-daughter of Anwar Ibrahim.

He seldom gives interviews but his lengthy explanation to Yahoo Malaysia should clear him of some adverse accusations. I dont know how readers and the public would react to his statements but I saw a different KJ this time around, someone who matures fast.

I dont like asking people about their money but I hope those who have been making such allegations should come up with proof and not based on hearsay. Many people want to 'kill' him but quite a number see him as a promising up and coming Malay leader.

I have nothing against him and I dont think he likes me at all but I must admit how I helped him won the last party election... for 'free'.

Sorry bro... he he he!

Mengapa Jarang Pakai Barang Kemas Emas

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 04:38 AM PDT

Tiba2 saya didatangi dua orang bukan berbangsa Melayu atas motorsikal..motosikal biasa tu..
Honda Cup?

Saya hanya tergamam. Beku di situ jugak.
Baju blaus teashirt terkoyak sikit..mujurlah tak der free show kat sesiapa.

Serik!:D

Sejarah Buktikan Telah Ada Ulamak PAS Yang Belot [updated]

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 09:32 AM PDT

Isu ulama-profesional: PAS perlu jelas peranan, kata penganalisis

Tumpang jentera orang lain

Chinese student sells kidney for iPad

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 08:33 PM PDT

A 17-year-old Chinese student is having serious health problem after selling one of his kidneys to buy an iPad 2 and a laptop in late April.

The teenager sold his kidney for RMB22000 (~US$3400) at a hospital in Hunan after finding the deal from an online advertisement. His mother became suspicious after he brought home the gadgets, and reported to the police after knowing the truth.

Organ trading is illegal in most countries (China included), but not monitored strictly in some cases. The alleged hospital said that they merely rented out the room and have no idea what was happening, while the online contacts were unreachable after the surgery. And I guess the authority won't have much interest to deal this any further.

It's beyond my imagination that someone would sell their body parts of something that's not a necessity. It's just f**ked up.

Public flats repossessed
By CHRISTINA CHIN

THE Penang Government has repossessed 154 flat units in eight public housing projects since last year after their tenants breached the tenancy's terms and conditions.

They included six units at the Taman Manggis project on Lorong Selamat which were repossessed yesterday because their tenants owed rental arrears of between RM1,240 and RM3,968.
Breaking in: A contract worker breaking the lock of a unit at the Taman Manggis flats in George Town.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai warned that the state would continue to repossess units occupied by errant tenants.

He said the state housing department was monitoring the pro- jects vigilantly to check if tenants breached the tenancy agreement.

"Efforts are ongoing but we haven't been highlighting them in the media. Now we want the tenants to know that we are se- rious and will repossess the units if they leave them unoccupied, sublet them or use them as storerooms.

"These flats are for the underprivileged earning RM1,500 and below monthly. We want to make sure that only those eligible get to rent them," Wong said.

He said these public housing projects were also meant to house squatters affected by the state government's relocation programme.

He said officers from the state housing department and welfare department were in the process of interviewing tenants for the repossessed lots.

"We have to evaluate the condition of the repossessed units and do the necessary repairs before renting them out again," Wong told reporters during the operation to repossess the units at Taman Manggis.

The monthly rental for the Taman Manggis flats is RM124.

Husam Musa Diftnah Blogger UMNO, Kickdefella Nafi Temui Husam Di China

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 08:07 AM PDT

Syed Azidi meletakkan jawatan pegawai perhubungan awam Perbadanan Menteri Besar Kelantan (PMBK) akhir 2009.

-TMI

Husam: 'Saya tak pernah jumpa Kickdefella, dakwaan 100 peratus palsu'

Syed Azidi meletakkan jawatan pegawai perhubungan awam Perbadanan Menteri Besar Kelantan (PMBK) akhir 2009.

-TMI

PUTRAJAYA, June 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today the restructuring of the Penang water assets was an achievement in federal-state collaboration and hoped other opposition states would follow suit. This comes after Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said yesterday that the water restructuring agreements demonstrate the commitment of the Pakatan Rakyat Penang government towards a mature working relationship with the Barisan Nasional federal government.
"Penang is the first opposition state to sign a water restructuring agreement and I hope it will be a catalyst for water asset restructuring deals in other opposition states," he said at the signing of the restructuring of Penang water services here today.
"The signing today represents the pinnacle in achievement of the efforts that have been carried out by the federal government and the Penang state government for the well-being and benefit of the public."
The federal government said last week it was eager to take part in Selangor's proposed discussions over the restructuring of water assets in the state.
The chief executive of the national water asset management company Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman, also said in a press conference today that talks with governments of the states of Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Selangor were at the "advanced" stage.
"We hope we can get Kedah next as we already have Perlis and Penang and that will take care of the northern region," he said.
The states which have already signed water restructuring agreements with PAAB are Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Johor and Perlis.
Under the deal signed today, Penang agreed to the migration of its core assets in Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP), in exchange for a complete restructuring exercise of the outstanding federal loans owed by the state.
The terms of the agreement are as follows:
  • Penang's outstanding loan of RM655.24 million to the federal government will be converted into a grant;
  • Penang will be given a grant allocation of RM1.2 billion for the expansion project of Mengkuang Dam;
  • The federal government will be fully responsible for the source work of water supply projects;
  • The state government will be relieved of the financial burden to develop and upgrade water supply assets;
  • PBAPP can focus solely on providing water treatment and distribution services and concentrate on achieving operational efficiencies, good quality water and services;
  • PBAPP can work towards full cost recovery and financial independence in the long term;
  • Any revision or variation in water tariffs must obtain the approval and consent of the Penang state government.
In a separate statement, ACQUA SPV Bhd announced it was confident of acquiring the remaining bonds related to the Selangor water concessionaires within this week.
The company, a special purpose vehicle established by PAAB, had on May 31 announced that it had successfully acquired 99.6 per cent of the bonds amounting to RM5.8 billion from existing bondholders of Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor (Splash), Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd and Viable Chip Sdn Bhd under seven different bond programmes.

Muslimat mahu pasukan IT antifitnah

"Kita perlu kepimpinan keluarkan idea... kita mesti pakai kekuatan dalaman.

-mk

Mentimun Mengandungi Virus E-Coli, Sepanyol Timbang Untuk Saman Jerman

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 05:00 AM PDT

– AP/Agensi

Behind and Beyond the IPPs

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 04:46 AM PDT

As we all know, power rates have increased by an average of 7.12% or 2.23 sen per kilowatt hour (kWh). Natural gas will rise to RM13.70 per British thermal unit (mmBtu) from RM10.70 and go up by RM3 every month until December 2015, after which market rates will apply (Source: FMT).It is a hefty increase to a retiree like me. Filled with much indignation, I started to read up on IPPs to unravel the true story behind the energy puzzle.

According to Jeff Rector in his paper The IPP Investment Experience in Malaysia:

A massive blackout in 1992 shut down much of the country for up to 48 hours, prompting a fierce public outcry and threats of lawsuits against Tenaga. An inquiry cleared Tenaga of negligence but the incident severely damaged its reputation.

In response to the blackout, Kuala Lumpur dismantled Tenaga's monopoly on generation and aggressively pushed forward the IPP program to restore an adequate safety margin of capacity and to ensure that the country could meet its anticipated future power needs. It seems that doubts over the managerial capacity of Tenaga were more important than a perceived lack of internal financing capabilities in the
decision to aggressively move forward with the IPP program.

The IPP licenses were highly sought after: when the IPP policy was first announced, more than 150 applications flooded in to the Economic Planning Unit.

Politically wellconnected groups were formed to bid for IPP licenses and investors in the first five winning IPPs included some of the biggest corporate names in Malaysia: gaming company Genting, media and telecoms group Malaysian Resources, giant multinational Sime Darby and construction firm YTL Corp, the state-owned investment company, Permodalan Nasional, and "tycoon" Ananda Krishnan.

It seems that experience in the power sector was not a necessary qualification for securing a concession, while the strength of connections to the government was of central importance. This may have made it difficult to get lending from some international financial institutions. "What has raised concern among banks is the companies getting the licences," reported a Singapore-based international banker. "They are run by well-connected individuals who are after lucrative contracts."

"The good news is the government is getting the IPP program going," said one analyst. "The bad news is that politics and connections are playing too big a role in the way the whole process is being carried out."

Tenaga became a twenty percent or ten percent minority shareholder in all but one of the first IPPs and a was a shareholder from the project inception for later IPP projects in order to hedge its bets and get into what was believed to be a very profitable sector in the business.

After being awarded concessions, these IPPs signed long-term power supply contracts with Tenaga. While the contracts were ostensibly ordinary private contracts, they were completed with the mediation, guidance and imprimatur of the government. According to separate interviews with a Tenaga official and an IPP owner, the PPA negotiations and some of the financing conversations were three way negotiations including the IPP, Tenaga, and the government.
The private investor commented that on occasion, when there was a deadlock between Tenaga and the IPP over the allocation of a particular risk, the discussion would go offline to a political level. The parties would come back to the negotiation table and the conflict had already been resolved as if it never existed. The government's strong presence during the contracting phase was to be a factor when renegotiation discussions arose.

Former Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) chairman Tan Sri Ani Arope gave The Star newspaper an interview in 2006 (READ IT HERE) where he revealed:

How was the process of negotiations with IPPs conducted?

There was no negotiation. Absolutely none. Instead of talking directly with the IPPs, TNB was sitting down with the EPU. And we were harassed, humiliated and talked down every time we went there. After that, my team was disappointed. The EPU just gave us the terms and asked us to agree. I said no way I would.

What about the pricing and terms of the contracts?

It was all fixed up. (They said) this is the price, this is the capacity charge and this is the number of years. They said you just take it and I refused to sign the contracts. And then, I was put out to pasture.

Why did you disagree with the terms?

It was grossly unfair. At 16 sen per unit (kWh) and with the take or pay situation, actually it was 23 sen per unit. With 23 sen, plus transmission and distribution costs, TNB would have had to charge the consumer no less than 30 sen per unit. If mixed with TNB's cost, the cost would come down but that was at our expense because we were producing electricity at 8 sen a unit. We can deliver electricity at 17 sen per unit.

And then there is a capacity charge. Nobody produces excess electricity like Malaysia and it goes to waste because there are no batteries to store that power. TNB only needs a reserve of 15% to 20%.

TNB was producing electricity at 8 sen a unit. What should have been the right price for IPPs to sell to TNB?

Twelve sen. They could not beat our price as we had already amortised our assets. But for the new guys or even ourselves to come in then and (having) to meet interest charges and to make a small profit, it would cost 12 sen a unit.

This was what we told one IPP. The IPP agreed to it but the EPU said that unless the IPP raised its price, the contract would not be given to the IPP. So he got it for 14 sen per unit.

And then, there is the cost pass-through. If the price of fuel went up, the extra cost is passed through to us. And in other words, it is passed on to the consumer.
In another interview with The Star HERE, Tan Sri Ari Anope said:

There is nothing much TNB can do as long as there is no revision to the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).
The IPPs were given favourable terms that cushioned them from many risks, which propelled them from obscurity to great fame and fortune. Business savvy and innovation do not account for their financial success. It is due to the one-sided and lucrative PPAs.

They are now being asked to cut those excesses for consumers' benefit. If IPPs can make hefty profits, they can give some back to the industry.
Do we see that happening?

At this link, it was reported:

Under the PPA, IPPs were given guaranteed earnings for over 20 years for their entire power production irrespective of demand. In short, whatever the IPPs generate, Tenaga has to buy regardless of whether it requires the electricity.

"If Tenaga were to go under financially, I think it is going to create a national financial blackout. The IPPs could only survive if we are healthy. If Tenaga defaulted on one payment, it would create a financial domino effect that would be real bad," Ani had said.
In 1998, it was reported HERE:

According to StarBiz, negotiations between TNB and the IPPs for supplementary agreements on their present power purchase agreements (PPAs) have yet to begin, the IPPs are already lobbying to extend their 21- or 25-year concessions to unidentified number of years.

In other words, the IPPs, especially the First Generation IPPs, will find ways to offset their net income. And we are talking about IPPs that have an average of 9 years left in their PPAs, and that would have recovered their investment -- using low-interest loans from EPF etc -- during the first seven years of operation.
Five years ago, Jeff Ooi wrote HERE:

All IPPs have a fuel pass-through clause where they could pass all the cost increase to TNB while you can't assure TNB won't pass the cost to you consumers.

It is to be noted that except for Second Generation IPPs, the first 5 IPPs charge all its capacity to TNB. In comparison, Tanjong Bin and Jimah exert a 85% capacity charge.

OK, too much of number crunching. Let's get some perspective of whether TNB is in a good business depite the monopoly.

If I remember correctly, TNB's net profit in 2005 was RM1.5 billion. It's in the papers anyway. But TNB's payment to Tanjong Bin alone when the coal-powered IPP is fully operational is about RM1.2 to RM1.5 billion.

Balanced account, you may say, with just payment to one IPP alone.

I suggest TNB should seriously get into the business of IPP instead of holding a monopoly energy supplier status in the country and making no money. Do the maths again.

Cost of building Tanjong Bin: RM7.2 billion

    TNB's annual payment to IPP: RM1.2 - 1.5 billion

Therefore, it is deduced that an IPP can break even within 6 to 7 years, and the remaining years of the PPA -- that range from 21 to 25 years -- will be purely profit minus a small allocation for maintenance, repairs and operation (MRO) charges.

More comparison figures on Rate of Return.

Financial analysts' report say TNB enjoys a 2.5% rate of return on asset. Meanwhile, YTL enjoys 11.9% while it's 12.3% for Malakoff.

No prizes, but do tell me who the IPP owners are. You better find out now because the Thatcherite Curse won't be over till 2034.
Recently, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin said that the government cannot compel the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to be made public as they are signed by private entities. He said that the PPA is signed between the several independent power producers (IPP)and national utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

Malaysiakini reported that critics, in particular opposition parties, have been pressuring for the government to disclose the PPA to justify its refusal to restructure the contracts. The report said that those parties argue that IPPs stand to make guaranteed profits from this venture and yet they are entitled to gas subsidies by tax payers.

Malaysian Bar president Lim Chee Wee said today the federal government should and could make public the controversial PPAs in the public's interest based on the law.

FYI, an independent power producer is a private entity that owns facilities to generate electric power for sale. There are currently 26 IPPs in the country, and all of them purchase gas at discounted prices. You can view the list of Independent Power Producers in Malaysia AT THIS LINK.

The DAP has branded subsidies for the IPPs as 'big opium', following Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's remark, after the government reduced subsidies on fuel and sugar, that subsidies in general were 'like opium'.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng claims that the fuel subsidies enjoyed by IPPs and TNB are as high as RM19 billion and formed the bulk of subsidies dished out by the government. Chin denied this HERE and claimed that the RM19 billion is profit forgone by Petronas by selling below market price to IPPs and TNB.

Today, DSAI argued HERE that the government's apparent reluctance to renegotiate profitable power purchasing agreements reflected the "stranglehold" of the IPPs.

Even Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin joined the fray against the power purchasing agreements signed with independent power producers (IPPs), calling them "unfair" and "lopsided". (READ MORE HERE)

Two days ago, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said HERE that independent power producers (IPPs) will not benefit from yesterday's increase in electricity tariffs. He explained the introduction of the Fuel Cost Pass-Through (FCPT) mechanism, where Petronas will forgo part of its revenue by selling natural gas below market rate to power producers who would sell power at a cheaper rate. He said it goes straight to consumers as a pass-through tariff, so nobody benefits.

The government has a responsibility to provide public/social goods to citizens at minimum cost as it has at its disposal tax revenue. If so, why are we paying market price for essential services? Worse still, does it seem as though the government subsidises these privatised operators of essential services at an escalating pre-determined price (profit) over the privatised period and passes the price increase to us, consumers?

It is ridiculous that the government is not worried at how citizens are being burdened UNNECESSARILY by these tariff increases and are MORE WORRIED about whether the PPA is going to be revealed to the public. We were not born yesterday and it is common knowledge that TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) is a government-linked company so it will be a piece of cake for them to make public the agreements IF THEY SO DESIRE! As the energy minister, Peter Chin can get Parliament approval that the contracts be released.

So what is stopping them from making it public? When it does not suit them, there is inertia. When it suits them, price increases can be made at rocket speed! Pffffffttttt!!! So who suffers? Who gains?

What is more important? They have to decide, failing which, they are making it MUCH EASIER for the rakyat to decide who to vote for in the next GE.

Hong Kong: North Point and Central

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 04:40 AM PDT

Let's go to Hong Kong now shall we? =D Almost forgotten that I have many photos to share with you during my Hong Kong trip few months back. Hong Kong is indeed a lovely place that I wouldn't feel bored after visiting for so many times. In this post, I will bring you to Central from North Point.

Central 中环 in Hong Kong is the CBD (Central Business District) and have various high rise office building and shopping malls too! And North Point 北角 was the place I stayed during my trip in Hong Kong. Hehe.

Because of cheap fare (HK$2 to everywhere) and want to sightseeing early in the morning, we took the tram connected straight to Central. It's pretty nice to take the tram with cool weather out there and you can see the city slowly. It was around 10am and we wanted to go Central to "Yum Cha" which literally means drinking tea, but actually is to look for dim sum breakfast. I found out that there's a very old and famous Hong Kong dim sum tea house.

After alighting the tram, we tried to look for the place to the dim sum tea house. No one of us actually been there before, we walked there with the guide of Google Maps. Luckily I've got a Hong Kong SIM card on my iPhone. =)

Central area is really pretty because of the huge office towers and old Hong Kong – British architecture. People in suits and OL walking everywhere, it's really a busy place and I like it. =D

The morning Hong Kong is so pretty. I just couldn't resist myself from pressing the camera shutter. I wanted to capture every bit of the place to keep in my photo album and share with you guys. The Hong Kong city is just so beautiful.

Hong Kong is too densely populated already. CBD is not really CBD, there's still people living around that area, rich and poor; wet market and groceries store. You can see all walk of life at there too. The Hong Kong culture is really strong. People are walking everywhere, every alley, it's people all the time and walking.

I wonder why construction site in Hong Kong are so pretty. They are so colourful that I want to take photos of them. Unlike the one at here are so dull and boring.

After 20 minutes of walking, we found the dim sum tea house, Lin Heung Lao 莲香楼. It's just so crowded and there's not even a spot to sit. We waited for 10 minutes and there's no people moving out of their seat. The waiter told us that whenever some one get up, we must go to sit down, but then it's just hardly get 4 people seats together. And in the end, we decided not to eat at there and eat at the opposite.

It's so much better. =D

I met 3 of my crazy buddies, Yiphing, Chien Chern and Raykee Aw (Chen Yuen) last week! It's really long time no see. The last time I saw Yiphing was, I've forgotten, last year I guess, the last time I met Chien Chern was 4 weeks ago and the last time I met Raykee Aw was last year too! It's really had been a long time.

Yan Chien Chern.

Moving on and getting apart is just some part of our life right? Still remember we hang out almost all the time during the time after high school and before college. But after that, everyone have their own life and busy with their own thing. It's not easy to get back to what it was when everyone was busy with different things.

Raykee Aw Chen Yuen.

I guess, that's life? Meeting friends once in a while is happy. The time we spend most with friends are during high school, so cherish your moment.

Yiphing.

Not saying friends are the most important people in your life, there's still your family. When you get apart from your friends, family are they one that you should get close to, no matter what, family is still the closest and friends comes next. With the equilibrium of friends, family, work, and enjoy, that's a perfect life.

Hello friends, are you still reading my blog? =D I miss you all.

Muktamar Tahunan PAS: Perwakilan Tegur Kepimpinan Pemuda Gagal Tunai Tanggungjawab

SHAH ALAM: Kepimpinan Dewan Pemuda PAS Pusat dibidas kerana gagal menjalankan tugas terutamanya bagi mencapai sasaran mengambil alih kerajaan menerusi slogan 'Pas menuju Putrajaya'.

-mstar

First Day With Sigma 8-16mm At Hard Rock Hotel Penang

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 03:14 AM PDT

This is what I did after getting my new Sigma 8-16mm super ultra wide angle lens for Canon mount last week. =D I asked my girlfriend, Hueisean together to go to the Hard Rock Hotel to try some shots with the latest lens.

I think I can be the ambassador for Hard Rock Hotel Penang because I always go there to take photos and walk for fun, then post onto my blog. =D I guess that's the best relaxing place to take photos and because they have parking spaces too!

You see the lens, it's so wide that it can capture almost everything with little and unnoticeable distortion. It was a quiet afternoon with no live band at the lobby as live band is only available during the night. Though, the laughter and shouting of kids and adults playing at the pool can be heard. What a lovely evening.

It was close to sunset but sunset was no where to be seen. It's not super hot yet, sun shines on our faces and the warm sunlight touched our skin. We spent a little time at the beach, taking photos and chit-chat with each other, at the same time see people playing water sports.

The ivory golden sandy beach outside Hard Rock Hotel is no doubt the cleanest beach in Penang. The other beaches are dirty.

She jumped.

Perspiration started coming out from the pores and it's also the time for us to leave the hotel for some cooling in the vehicles. It's nice to try out the lens at this place but what I wanted to shoot most is some nice interiors.

Interiors like something below:

The lobby and a male toilet. =D I've no regret of getting this lens because it's serve me well as a interior design student and a photography enthusiast. Welcome to Hard Rock Hotel.
