penang – rule by PR or by the police?

penang – rule by PR or by the police?

penang – rule by PR or by the police?

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 11:00 AM PDT

the police stop a state government organised activity! an in an enclosed premise too! (not out on the street). for context, read here at the malaysian insider and at malaysiakini (it's a 'shared' site, so i hope all of you will be able to read it).  it's about the bersih rally.

seems that the police had been getting very paronoid, arresting people who support bersih and raiding NGO's premise and arresting those who possessed any bersih materials. what lah? no other work to do eh! as suaram penang pointed out to them – arrest criminals, not activists!!

ok the penang case. first of all, it is a state-organised event. secondly, it is not on the streets, and thirdly… like someone said… how can the police said that the bersih rally is illegal when it has not even been carried out yet? finally, the police acted with no respect to the CM. the CM was not consulted at all! this clearly shows the police is working for umno! (ruling federal government).

i remember at one of the anti ISA protest at the speakers square, esplanade penang, the police said it out – that the speakers square is not to be used for speaking up against the government. so this shows the police is on the government (federal) side. huh? speakers square not for speaking up against government? then whatever for that it is call speakers square? it is call speakers square means one can speak up on anything!!

so what now? all state government activities/events now must get the permission from the police? is penang becoming a police state?  so mad lah!

(to be continued.)

Cancellations

Darn it, I just received some bad news today and I'm pissed! The Siemens 10K run which I've signed up for has been postponed. It was scheduled to be for the 10th of July a day after the planned Bersih march but I guess the organizers are just being cautious and not taking any chances.

While I'm all for the Bersih march, I don't see why the heck people (read the government and it cronies) are making such a big fuss about it. If they've got nothing to hide or be afraid of, then why are they so pissing their pants in fright cos of this peaceful march?

I know the march is a peaceful one and will remain a peaceful one unless some moron goes and instigate trouble and give those high handed men in blue a reason to arrest everyone but I still am disappointed that the run has been postponed.

Though only a 10K event, I've had my mind set to run this event and now I don't even know when they're going to schedule the race ... siggghhh ... hopefully they don't reschedule it to clash with some other race I've signed up for. Then I really will be pissed and maybe throw some gold bullion at the organizers ... LOL!

There is one good news though, the MPSJ run has also been postponed for the same reasons as above (I'm only guessing, it could also be because they want to buy gold bullion) but this time I'm glad it is postponed cos I didn't sign up for this race as it was going to clash with my Siemens run the next day. Now, with the postponement, I hope they reschedule it for a weekend I can take part :D

My weekends are so filled with race events (albeit short distance races) that that I'm having a hard time remembering all of them. Remembering to buy bullion would be so much easier :D Now, with all that said and done, I wonder if I were to use my yellow Brooks running vest for my races, will I be arrested as I cross the finish line? LOL! If I were Ronald McDonald, I'd be in hiding now cos that yellow suit of his is just asking for trouble ... hahaha!

Water Tank Collapses

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 06:47 AM PDT

The water tank at my daughter's rented house collapsed this evening at about 6 something.
Fortunately Alhamdulillah, she was not back from work yet.

Luckily Dato' had an outside meeting too.

Neighbours heard a loud crash and informed the landlady who lives nearby.

One wonders how such an incident can happen in a modern house in a locality like Kota Damansara.

Obviously the developer must have done a shoddy job.
Her rented house is within the Kota Damansara mosque area.

As for now, the whole upstairs area is in a mess.
The water tank wreckage has just been cleared.

Of course now the Persian cats count is short by one..Lola is yet to be found.
Hopefully she is safe and not lying injured somewhere in the darkness of the double-storey semi- D.. the other 6 Persians are shaken but safe.

The water had gushed right on to the road in front of the house.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but who'd expect a water tank to crash right on the landing of a corner-lot house in a rather rich-looking neighbourhood?

p.s. Lola has been found..Alhamdulillah.
She was hiding among the plates arranged on the rack in the kitchen..Thank God!

Enggan Guna Dakwat Kekal, SPR Tukar Alasan Baru Untuk Tipu Rakyat

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 09:52 AM PDT

Hampir mustahil'

"Lagipun kita sendiri tak pernah tengok orang mengundi dua kali...

Terlokop duit rakyat beli dakwat kekal tetapi kemudian dibuang begitu saja.

Kini alasan baru pula diberikan, kononnya penggunaan dakwat kekal ketinggalan zaman, tak standard, orang kini dah pakai biometrik. Hilang alasan dakwat diseludup masuk.

Shocked Beyond Words

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 08:19 AM PDT

This evening, my friend T.O. sent me the following link about how two schoolgirls were part of a 'shocking' family plot to kill their own grandfather and steal his inheritance early, a court heard.

According to THIS ARTICLE, the sisters, aged 14 and 15, scoured the internet with their 48-year-old mother, 18-year-old brother and his 16-year-old girlfriend for 'the easiest way to kill an old person', it is alleged.

They are accused of hatching a number of plans and carrying out a savage attack on the 89-year-old dementia sufferer using bricks in plastic bags.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE REST OF THE ENTRY (who photographs).

My heart goes out to the grandfather. Why in the world did they do such a heartless thing to an old man? Is money more important than the life of a loved one?

Sighs...I am truly shocked beyond words!

MCMC and its '1001' towers

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 07:47 AM PDT

I am impressed with MCMC announcement today that another 1,000 communication towers will be erected nationwide this year. At least its chairman Tan Sri Khalid Ramli is honest about it (here).

However, the only issue here is which and what type of companies will be awarded such a luxury project? Is it going to be the same 'group of few' and 'close MCMC allies' or to other NSP license holders whose duty is only to pay their high annual fee without being given a chance to build even a single tower?

Numerous complaints were made against the irregularities in which such projects were issued out to MCMC's small number of registered contractors.

I know a few Bumiputera contractors still owing the Commission a few hundred thousands ringgit in NSP license fee, which they got more than five years ago. However, as most projects were awarded to the same companies, the rest are being neglected and only made to pay the fee annually.

NSP license is not cheap. If it costs you RM100,000 a year, you may end up owing MCMC RM500,000 after 5 years although your company fails to get any of the contracts. Its a big sum, you know, especially for the few Bumiputera contractors.

However, I am most impressed that Khalid's speech was read by MCMC Chief Strategy Officer, Datuk Mohamed Sharil Mohamed Tarmizi. What a guy he is! Isn't he the man being 'too close for comfort' with Rais Yatim's special officer DATUK Nazri Abdullah who is still under MACC investigation over the alleged 1Malaysia notebook scam?

Wow! Am I glad that Sharil is back at MCMC again! But who should I congratulate for having such a 'powerful' keyman? Info Minister Rais Yatim or sec-gen Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf... or Khalid himself?

By the way, it was a good announcement. Let us hope this 1,000 towers would not end up like the 1Malaysia notebook!

"Fatwa" Hishamuddin Tercabar, Ahli Parlimen PR Berpakaian Kuning

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 07:43 AM PDT

Malah dalam merealisasikan sokongan mereka, hampir semua Ahli Parlimen Pakatan Rakyat memakai tali leher kuning manakala ahli parlimen wanita pula memakai pakaian kuning.

"(Mereka turut) memanggil Sasterawan Negara Pak Samad Said ke Balai Polis.

-tvsnews

Protes: Ahli parlimen Pakatan berpakaian 'kuning'

Ahli parlimen wanita pula memakai pakaian kuning.

-hd

Baju Kuning - Wakil Rakyat Jadi Sasaran Polis

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 06:20 AM PDT

Saya tanya ketua jenayah Ipoh Mr Glenn mengapa tahan mereka? Dibawah undang-undang apa mereka ditahan?

-tvsnews

PAS Tetap Sertai BERSIH

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 04:48 AM PDT

Mat Sabu: PAS tetap sertai perhimpunan 9 Julai

-mk

The Talking Labrador

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 03:30 AM PDT

A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale'. He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever lying there.

'You talk?' he asks.

'Yep,' the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?'

The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.'

'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down.

I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.' 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.'

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

'Ten dollars,' the guy says.

'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?'

'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that sh*t.

Kedai Komputer Di Dungun Terbakar, Iktibarnya Apa?

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 03:22 AM PDT

Ummu Salamah Radiallohu `anha berkata: aku mendengar Rasulullah Sholallohu `alaihi wa sallam bersabda:

-HR. Ahmad dll. Hadith Sohih

Pemerintahan UMNO BN Terengganu terus melampaui batas-batas Allah dan terus mengundang kemurkaanNya. Tunggu saat dan ketikanya:

Sebab Undang-undang Dalam Ini Negeri, Kanda Yang Bikin....

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 01:23 AM PDT

Mat Sabu: 'Musang Berjanggut' jawap SPR

"Pernah tengok (filem) Musang Berjanggut?

Peringkat akhir saman kerajaan

Puspa Wangi bertanya,

"Kanda, bolehkah dinda bertanya tentang undang-undang Negeri di sini?"

Dato Nikah Kawin pun jawab,

One To Touch You

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 12:10 AM PDT

Growing old is a difficult process. I am half a century old. Gosh! I can be a museum artifact. Some of you may be older or younger but whatever stage you may be in, I am sure you have had to take care of an older member of the family, be it your parents, grandparents or relatives.

This morning, I was chatting with my former classmate via FB and we were reminiscing about our school days and how in time to come, each of us will go, one by one. Both of us agreed that this is the time to reconnect with our friends and loved ones so that before we die, at least we have mended bridges or said whatever we did not say but should have said in the past.

Then we started talking about our parents. Alexandra used to sit in front of me in class and as I visited her often, I remember her mom and grandmom fondly. So that put me in a very sentimental mood as I have been thinking of my parents a lot. It has been 37 years since my mom passed away and I still remember the last week of her life as if it just happened yesterday. And it has been almost four years since my father died. And I really miss them so. :-(

The dam burst when I watched this video that Angela sent me today. It really made me realize what might befall me when I get old, feeble, and cannot blog any more, cannot talk or walk etc. I sent it to my sons. My older boy was very touched and messaged me on FB and then I called him. My younger one will only be home at 5pm.

Watch this VIDEO AT THIS LINK and be touched.

Cherish, treasure the moments/memories ....

Live, love and touch others with your life....

We only have one life. Let's live it to the fullest and always love, respect, cherish our parents, grandparents, children and loved ones.

WHICH BOMOH DID THE IGP USE TO COME OUT WITH SUCH LUDICROUS ANALYSIS?

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 12:02 AM PDT

IGP Tan Sri Ismail Omar has come out with this ludicrous statement, quote "based on our observation and analysis of the impending gathering, we believe that it would cause tension, chaos and destruction of property, injuries and maybe even loss of lives" unquote.

I am just wondering how the analysis was derived at, and what observation methods were used to conclude the statement that the IGP had made above. If the analysis were to come from the Special Branch of yesteryears, I would tend to believe it because they are experienced and capable officers, but I doubt it now. I know some of them, and they are truly a professional lot.

All along, I have not read nor heard any single statement made by the organizers' of Bersih, nor from any one of the NGO's and opposition party leaders that they are out to create chaos, destruction that can result in injuries and even loss of lives, as declared by the IGP. What I did hear are some stern warnings issued by Ibrahim Ali of Perkasa and supporters of the government, including UMNO Youth to expect trouble should the Bersih rally proceed. Wasn't UMNO Youth involved in an attempt to burn the PKR office at Petaling Jaya? What wrong has the building done to UMNO Youth that the building deserves to be raised to the ground?

Tell me, was it not Ibrahim Ali who had said that he will not able to control his people if they turn violent at the rally? What violence is he talking about if the intended violence is to be instigated by the sordid and rowdy Perkasa members themselves? Did the IGP not know this, and why wasn't Ibrahim Ali arrested and kept in solitary confinement at 'Kamunting Resort' for insinuating violence? Did the IGP hear anything from Bersih or its supporters to words that there are out to create trouble? Certainly, I have not heard of any, and I am neither deaf nor blind.

Bersih leaders has repeatedly said that the rally will be peaceful, and even PAS leaders has allowed the police to arrest any of its members if they are found to be trouble makers. So clearly, it is Perkasa, UMNO and its supporters that are inclined to create disorder, and not Bersih. How then did the IGP and the government come out with such negative and frightful analysis, which makes them appear that they are going to be the perpetrators of violence during the rally? We have had Bersih 1.0 prior to the GE 12 and did we see any dead bodies then? Who then created the fracas if it wasn't because of the water cannons? And what was the outcome of Bersih 1.0? I do not need to tell you.

Lynas plant safe by world standards, says review panel. Yeah close case!

June 30, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — Australian rare earths miner Lynas Corp won today international approval for its RM700 million plant being built in Malaysia's east coast after a UN review panel said it posed no radioactive risks to the thousands who live and work there.
But International Atomic Energy Agency-appointed (IAEA) panel recommended 11 improvements for Putrajaya to implement before awarding Lynas further licences, including the one the miner needs to start pre-operations.
The federal government has also pledged it will adopt all the suggestions.
The Sydney-based company had previously hoped to fire up its plant by September; it will be announcing its next step later today.
It had earlier requested a halt to trading on its shares.
Putrajaya, under pressure to show that the plant does not pose any radioactive risk, had called for experts from the IAEA to form an independent panel to review the health, environmental and safety aspects of Lynas' rare earths plant in Pahang.
"The IAEA report concluded that it did not find any instance of 'any non-compliance with international radiation safety standards' in the Lynas project," said Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (picture) and Datuk Maximus Ongkili in a joint statement today.
The nine-man expert panel found Lynas to have complied with international health and safety standards, after a month-long review.
Mustapa, who is International Trade and Industry Minister, previously said although Lynas was given a manufacturing licence to build its plant, for economic reasons "issues of public safety and health, and environment were also" considered.
Lynas has said that its plant — which will extract rare earth metals crucial for high-technology products such as smartphones, hybrid cars and wind turbines — will create a RM4 billion multiplier effect annually and will hire 350 skilled workers, 99 per cent of whom will be Malaysians.
Although reports say the plant may earn RM8 billion for Lynas, more than one per cent of the Malaysian GDP, critics have questioned the real economic benefit of the project, pointing to the 12-year tax break the Australian company will enjoy due to its pioneer status.
The government estimates investment spinoffs of RM2.3 billion from the plant, including the RM300 million already poured into two factories in the Gebeng industrial zone that will produce hydrochloric and sulphuric acid needed to extract the rare earth metals.

Polis Lebih Jaga UMNO Daripada Jaga Rakyat - Mat Sabu

"Melainkan dia (polis) lepas gas pemedih mata.

Mat Sabu: Kami komited tewaskan BN guna demokrasi, bukan cara lain

"Kami mahu menewaskan kerajaan (Barisan Nasional) menerusi pilihan raya, bukan cara lain.

Mandalay by Rudyard Kipling

By the old Moulmein Pagoda, lookin' lazy at the sea,
There's a Burma girl a-settin', and I know she thinks o' me;
For the wind is in the palm-trees, and the temple-bells they say:
"Come you back, you British soldier; come you back to Mandalay!"
Come you back to Mandalay,
Where the old Flotilla lay:
Can't you 'ear their paddles chunkin' from Rangoon to Mandalay?
On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!

'Er petticoat was yaller an' 'er little cap was green,
An' 'er name was Supi-yaw-lat — jes' the same as Theebaw's Queen,
An' I seed her first a-smokin' of a whackin' white cheroot,
An' a-wastin' Christian kisses on an 'eathen idol's foot:
Bloomin' idol made o'mud —
Wot they called the Great Gawd Budd
Plucky lot she cared for idols when I kissed 'er where she stud!
On the road to Mandalay . . .

When the mist was on the rice-fields an' the sun was droppin' slow,
She'd git 'er little banjo an' she'd sing "Kulla-lo-lo!"
With 'er arm upon my shoulder an' 'er cheek agin' my cheek
We useter watch the steamers an' the hathis pilin' teak.
Elephints a-pilin' teak
In the sludgy, squdgy creek,
Where the silence 'ung that 'eavy you was 'arf afraid to speak!
On the road to Mandalay . . .

But that's all shove be'ind me — long ago an' fur away,
An' there ain't no 'busses runnin' from the Bank to Mandalay;
An' I'm learnin' 'ere in London what the ten-year soldier tells:
"If you've 'eard the East a-callin', you won't never 'eed naught else."
No! you won't 'eed nothin' else
But them spicy garlic smells,
An' the sunshine an' the palm-trees an' the tinkly temple-bells;
On the road to Mandalay . . .

I am sick o' wastin' leather on these gritty pavin'-stones,
An' the blasted Henglish drizzle wakes the fever in my bones;
Tho' I walks with fifty 'ousemaids outer Chelsea to the Strand,
An' they talks a lot o' lovin', but wot do they understand?
Beefy face an' grubby 'and —
Law! wot do they understand?
I've a neater, sweeter maiden in a cleaner, greener land!
On the road to Mandalay . . .

Ship me somewheres east of Suez, where the best is like the worst,
Where there aren't no Ten Commandments an' a man can raise a thirst;
For the temple-bells are callin', an' it's there that I would be —
By the old Moulmein Pagoda, looking lazy at the sea;
On the road to Mandalay,
Where the old Flotilla lay,
With our sick beneath the awnings when we went to Mandalay!
On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!
