madness! madness descent upon our country!

madness! madness descent upon our country!

madness! madness descent upon our country!

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 11:12 AM PDT

…. courtesy of the federal government and the police!!

i had wanted to blog about this few days ago but didnt' get into it. ok good to do so today – just one day before 9 july – D DAY!!  this will be me thinking aloud, not writing for a news publication, so it will be very random and with no flow, no good english. in other words i'm writing for myself… just to get it out.

our country has really gone insane! or i should rather said the government (federal) and the police had gone utterly insane!! just look at what had been happening lately and will happen. these past days, reading the news on the online media here and there really made my blood pressure goes up! so very geram!! so very mad!!

THE GOVT/POLICE IS REALLY MAKING A
MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLEHILL!!

a friend who is very non political, reading the news these days, said "what is the fuss there? actually it's such a small matter – bersih calling for a rally – but it turned out to be such a BIGGGG matter!"

WHY IS THE GOVT/POLICE SO FEARFUL OF BERSIH?

bersih is just calling for gathering of people who wants to see free and fair election.  just that… but the govt/police explode!!! insane! causing chaos in the country!!

bersih is calling for a rally and promise peaceful rally…. but it's other people who butt in to 'disturb the peace' – the peace we have in our country – when the police started arresting people who wear bersih t-shirt, people who gathered to give forums, and so on.

it was said the govt. fear that the bersih rally will be used to overthrow the govt!! oh, is that so? then this means the govt realise they were not like by the rakyat!!

at one stage the PM boasted that he can mobilised more people than bersih. really kah? well yes, but because they were forced or paid!!

i get most GERAM when i read about the antics of perkasa.  just imagine…. bersih called for a rally on 9 july, they too want a rally on 9 july. then bersih seek a royal audience, they too want a royal audience.  guess what… bersih decided to hold the rally at stadium merdeka, they too want to hold the rally at stadium merdeka!! clearly you can see perkasa is doing this intentionlly… to spite bersih!! GRR!!

and why did perkasa kept mentioning bersih rally, there will be violence breaking out? well not only perkasa of course but others too – umno youth, most umno MPs… and the silat group also got into this madness of "we are ready to fight to death, ready to defend our country" saying that violence will break up at the bersih rally.

even the stadium merdeka management foresee violence during the bersih rally! what? they all suddenly became clairvoyants?

the silat group, like perkasa had also said they can't guarantee what their members will do, they can't control their members emotions, hinting that if their members want to 'fight' they can't do anything. look, clearly here, perkasa and the silat group are being seditious, yet nothing happened to them.

why did some people, including our very own PM mind you, said the chairperson of bersih, ambiga, is threatening islam or against islam??? gosh!! how, where did they get the idea??? such stupidity!!

a friend who said he's not brave enough to join the bersih rally, and he's also a person who couldn't really care about the govt, suddenly said to me "yes i won't attend the bersih rally but looking at what has been happening lately, this made me all the determined NOT to vote for BN, not ever!!!"

CAN YOU SEE THE MADNESS HERE??

- freezing temporary bus permit during this weekend

- intercity bus in KL re-routed.

-  the public services dept. (PSD) forbid staff to participate in the rally.

- the education ministry too forbid (issue warning)  teachers and students to participate in the rally.

- police go on a frenzy of road blocking here and there.

- the police can even stop a state organised event!!!!

(to be added in more)

ok it's going to be 0002 hrs now, my sleeping time so my thoughts end here. maybe if tomorrow i have time i'll continue.  i'm going to leave some important links here so that i can come back to refer them.

Hakim Tegur Anak Sosilawati Tidak Ingat Ketika Disoal balas

Erni Dekritawati gugup, cemas ketika beri keterangan

- Bernama

Chai Ho, dirty fellow! Bersih for all Malaysians who want a free, fair election!

July 07, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — A MCA leader today urged Bersih 2.0 to distance itself from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to remain apolitical, even as the troubled electoral reforms group faces major hurdles which could dampen its rally turnout this Saturday.
MCA treasurer-general Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho explained in a statement today that this was because PR, led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was attempting to hijack Bersih 2.0's rally to gain political mileage.
Anwar, he added, was aiming to steal Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan's thunder this Saturday to divert attention from the latest sex allegation against him.
"PR should not have hijacked the Bersih rally. This is a cheap political ploy to fish for votes and to achieve political milestone by inciting people to hate the government.
"If Bersih is intended to be apolitical, I encourage Datuk Ambiga to distance the Bersih organisers from PR," Tan wrote in a brief statement today.
He added that PR's "hijack" plan was mirrored yesterday when the coalition's leaders sounded a call to arms and pledged to mobilise at least 300,000 people to participate in the rally.
In a press conference after its leadership council meeting, PR leaders led by Anwar, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, PAS and PKR deputy presidents, Mohamad Sabu and Azmin Ali, declared the coalition's support for Bersih 2.0's plan to relocate its rally to a stadium instead of on the streets.
"This suggests that PR wants to link with Bersih and that Anwar wants to replace Bersih chief organiser Ambiga as the main leader at the assembly to shout out loud Pakatan's agenda and all focus would be on Anwar," said Tan.
"This move also confirms that Pakatan Rakyat has other reasons to participate in the rally. They are misusing the rally to divert attention away from Anwar's alleged involvement in the sex video and incite people against the government," he added.
The police have cast a wide dragnet to hamper Bersih 2.0's plans to rally this Saturday and today even obtained an order to lock out 91 people from the capital city on the day.

MCA, Umno running dog, who are you to tell Bersih to distance itself from who?

Bersih is of the people, by the people and for the people!

Of course, the rakyat know that Umno-led BN government is not of the people, by the people and for the people though BN MPs are so-called elected representatives!

Before election, they promise the sky. After election, they give the rakyat hell.

Get lost, you MCA! The Chinese do not need a Chinese MP to represent them.

A true Malaysian MP will fight for the rakyat!

MAFREL Selar Pendirian Najib, Sekejap Boleh Sekejap Tidak

Flip-Flop, Gambaran Buruk Kepimpinan Najib

Injunksi Mahkamah Halang 91 Individu - Puncak Kebaculan BN - Video

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 07:02 AM PDT

Polis: Perintah mahkamah halang 91 individu

Kawasan berhimpun

-mk

Malaysian PR: Real progress

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 03:25 AM PDT

Since I started my blog seven years ago I've written many times about my experiences as an immigrant and about the plight of foreign spouses in Malaysia. I wrote at least five posts on that topic in 2009, four in 2010, and then…well, this year I haven't written about it, not here anyway. Well, here's an interesting update.

No, I don't have Permanent Resident status yet. I wish. I haven't even applied yet. I don't even have the new five-year visa foreign spouses can now get, but that's because Canada didn't (but now does, I think) allow its citizens to have passports that were valid for more than five years; since my five-year passport expires next year, the Immigration Department wouldn't give me the five-year visa. I'm hoping to get that visa next year (after renewing my passport, of course). I'll be applying for PR soon after, if not at the same time.

I'm more confident of getting PR within the next two or three years. This is because there have been palpable changes in the way the Immigration Department treats foreign spouses in the last year or two. The five-year visa is evidence of that, as is the courtesy I was treated with on my last few visits to the Immigration Department in Shah Alam. On my last visit, officers actually volunteered helpful information. After the icy glares and seemingly deliberate obfuscation I'd experienced on previous visits, the smiles and helpfulness I was greeted with this time really floored me.

Another reason I'm confident my quest for PR will have a happy ending within the next few years (as opposed to the next few decades, or even never) is that I recently had an opportunity to take part in a discussion about the plight of foreign spouses with several stakeholders, including people very high up in the decision-making process. I was already feeling good about the government's new and improved treatment of foreign spouses, but since that meeting I'm even more confident that our concerns are being taken seriously.

The meeting took place Tuesday, July 5th, at the office of the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, YB Dato' Lee Chee Leong, in Putrajaya. I was there courtesy of Bina Ramanand, Coordinator of the Foreign Spouses Support Group. There were other foreign spouses present as well, like Asha Lim of the FSSG, and another lady who was representing an association of Taiwanese foreign spouses. We were there to hand over a memorandum to the Deputy Minister. Also present was Dato' Yu Chok Tow, National Chairman of Wanita MCA, and Lee Shook Fong, also from Wanita MCA. Shook Fong was instrumental in making the meeting a reality and has been keeping tabs on the progress of the memorandum since it was first drafted in 2009.

Besides representatives of Wanita MCA, present on the government side were the Deputy Minister, a couple of Members of Parliament, two senior officers from the Immigration Department, and a senior officer from the National Registration Department.

The meeting mostly consisted of a presentation by Bina, and comments by the various government officials present on the points she raised. She asked a lot of tough questions and caught the Deputy Minister off guard a couple of times. He seemed completely unaware, for example, of the requirement that foreign wives get permission from their Malaysian husbands if they want to work. Another shocker was the requirement that Malaysian women married to foreigners pay RM38 a day if their husbands are incarcerated in Malaysia. There were several other issues raised, mostly related to the plight of foreign wives but also foreign husbands and children with at least one foreign-born parent; the Deputy Minister promised to look into all of them.

At one point, the Deputy Minister asked why women's groups would be concerned with problems faced by foreign husbands. I told him that when I've faced immigration difficulties over the years, I've regarded them first and foremost not as discrimination against me, but as discrimination against my wife. It's something I've been saying for a while now: discrimination against foreign men is really discrimination against Malaysian women. So yes, it is a women's issue.

That doesn't mean I totally agree with the FSSG's obvious focus on the female half of Malaysian-foreigner couples. I do think Bina often puts the plight of husbands (foreign or otherwise) in the back seat, with issues faced by foreign husbands usually mentioned as an aside, when foreign husbands have faced some major obstacles that foreign wives have not. This was my biggest criticism of the FSSG right from the start, but now that I know Bina a little better I know she's tried to get men involved and has had little success. She told me she tried to get some foreign husbands involved, but they just sent their Malaysian wives to the meetings. Ditto Malaysian men married to foreign women.

Criticism aside, I can't understate Bina's contribution to our cause. So far I've contributed little more than blog posts, whereas Bina has been relentless in her pursuit of ways to get our concerns heard by people who make the big decisions, whether it's through mainstream media or through government-linked groups such as Wanita MCA or non-governmental groups like the Migration Working Group (of which Bina and I, as part of FSSG, are members). My blog posts on immigration-related issues have, I hope, raised awareness of those issues, but the fact that we were able to sit down with so many high-ranking officials and talk to them about our concerns was due solely to the perseverance of Bina and Asha.

As I mentioned, the outcome of the meeting was positive. Many of the concerns raised by Bina in her presentation were issues that the government has already dealt with or is currently looking into. The remaining issues, we were told, will be addressed. Among the positive developments were the following:

All applications for PR made before 2009 have been cleared. Okay, I knew this almost two years ago, but it's still pretty good. This doesn't mean the applications all been approved, nor does it mean everyone whose application has been approved already has PR. But at least the applications have been cleared.

New applications for PR will be processed within a year. I've heard horror stories about people waiting years just to find out the status of their applications, so this is good news.

Foreign husbands are eligible for PR after five years, regardless of what type of pass they held during those five years. This is good news for people like me, who have had several different passes, more than one of which was considered the first one. Even if a foreign husband spent a few of those years on a professional employment pass, or even a student pass, he'd be eligible for PR after five years.

Leaving the country doesn't necessarily mean having to start the five-year wait all over again. Foreign spouses have sometimes been told that their wait for PR began when they returned from trips overseas, even if they were only out of the country for a short time. Now it's been clarified that leaving the country doesn't mean starting over.

Foreign spouses can get five-year visas. This is something I already knew, but it's good to know it's going to continue. The first five-year visa introduced by the government was scrapped not long after, if I recall correctly, and was too restrictive anyway as it depended on the foreign spouse having a five-year employment contract. This time, it seems they're serious about keeping it going, which is great news for me. Even if it takes a year or two for my PR to go through, if I've got a five-year visa, the wait won't seem so bad.

The five-year visa isn't a perfect substitute for PR; there are still a lot of disadvantages faced by foreign spouses without PR, such as higher medical and education fees, difficulties securing loans and credit cards or even opening a bank account or getting a phone line. But as I mentioned, we've been assured that these are all being looked into. Meanwhile, the FSSG isn't going to just sit and wait. While I sit here and write blog posts, Bina is already planning to meet officials from the Health and Education ministries. I'll try to be involved with those meetings as well, and to keep speaking up for foreign spouses in general, foreign husbands in particular, and the Malaysians who chose to marry us.

And, of course, I'll blog about it.

Kepala Nurruhayu Belum Ditemui. Ibu Rayu Tolong Cari

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 06:02 AM PDT

Tolonglah cari kepala arwah

Umidah Setu, 49, berkata, mereka sekeluarga yakin kecekapan polis menjalankan siasatan, namun berharap pihak berkuasa dapat menemui kepala arwah anaknya secepat mungkin.

-hm

Dengar Ayu meraung ketakutan

-BH

Najib Perlu Kotakan Cakapnya. Bersih 2.0 Tetap Akan Diadakan Di Stadium Merdeka

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 04:19 AM PDT

-tvsnews

Kes Sarbani: Siasat Segera Siapa Ganggu Dan Padam Rakaman CCTV

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 03:12 AM PDT

Inkues Sarbaini: Dua kamera CCCT 'diganggu seseorang'

Kesemuanya berpunca dari 'record off manually'. Untuk DVR 3 tiada gangguan,"
katanya.

Ia perlukan siasatan.

Jangan ada cover-up.

Second Phase of Air Itam market upgrade completed - Pakatan Rakyat Government helping the traders

Work on Air Itam market on schedule

PHASE Three of the RM1mil facelift for the Air Itam market in Penang is scheduled to begin next month.

Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai said this phase involved the upgrading of six stalls for poultry.

"In the first two phases which ended last month, 20 sundry goods stalls, 25 fish stalls, 18 tofu stalls and 12 stalls from the pork section have already been given a facelift," he told reporters at the market.
In progress: A worker laying tiles at the Air Itam market which is currently undergoing renovation works

He added that the upgrading included improvements on the lighting and drainage systems, and new tiles on the walls.

"The new stalls are equipped with roller shutters and their own water supply," he said, adding that the fourth and final phase would be the upgrading of the vegetable stalls.

"This market was built before World War II and minor upgrades were carried out over the years. The entire facelift project is expected to be completed by the end of this year," he said.

He said the new public toilets at the market were expected to be completed next month.

It was reported in January last year that the Air Itam market was among five markets earmarked for upgrading works under the Penang Municipal Council's 2010 budget.

The other markets in the upgrading programme are those in Cecil Street, Jelutong, Batu Maung and Pulau Tikus.

Wong also said that the RM27,000 resurfacing works on two roads in Air Itam — the road leading to Kampung Pisang and another road in Happy Valley (Taman Lembah Ria) — were completed two weeks ago.

On another matter, Wong urged the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry to get to the root cause of the rising price of fish instead of issuing notices to traders who had increased the price.

It was reported on Friday that three fishmongers accused of profiteering had each been served with a notice by the state Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism enforcement division, under the newly-implemented Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

in Penang will have the opportunity to purchase their first home at RM67,500 in Paya Terubong.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said that buyers who fulfilled the criteria would be eligible to buy the low medium-cost Suria Vista apartments.

"Interested buyers have to be Malaysian citizens above the age of 18 who have never owned a home, with a monthly household income that must not exceed RM3,500," he said.

Wong said the project had 123 LMC units but only 90 units were opened to the public because the remaining 33 units were meant for relocating squatters from the Air Itam area.

"Interested buyers can fill up the application form which will be submitted to the online portal of the state secretary's office (SUK) for screening and assessment," he said.

OHM Group marketing executive Saw Chong Seng said each of the 700sq ft units had three bedrooms and two bathrooms and did not come with a parking space.

"Parking space and renovations come with an optional price of RM22,500," he said, adding that the project was 68% completed and expected to be ready by year-end.

He said eligible buyers could visit the show unit in Suria Vista Apartment at Paya Terubong between 10am and 6pm, from now until this Sunday, and fill up an application form there.

They can then go to http://erumah.penang.gov.my to check the status of their application. - By Han Kar Kay (The Star)

Polis Dan Tentera Malaysia Buat Latihan Ala Mesir Untuk Hadapi BERSIH?

Posted: 07 Jul 2011 01:00 AM PDT

Ulasan GB

The Pregnant Pause

Posted: 06 Jul 2011 11:58 PM PDT

Some of you must be wondering why I have been silent on some pressing current issues.

Firstly, it is a volatile situation that is dynamic and the rules of the game seem to be changing at lightning speed, with many refusing to play by the rules, some playing by their own rules and others who choose to go against all odds for the greater good of all. As such, the less I say the better and I will leave it to online sites to give us the latest updates.

Secondly, the current landscape borders madness. There seems to be such an intense power play that it almost reminds me of a scene from Transformers or X-Men. Barely have people finished clapping at one disclosure when kaboooooooom comes another statement that stumps us till we say "Now - what in the world happened between then and now? Who has the greater say or more clout in the matter?"

Thirdly, the developments echo scenes from recent world events. There seems to be a pregnant pause as we all wait with bated breath, fingers crossed on bended knees to see what might happen next.

Fourthly, I really salute all those heroes and heroines who in great perseverance are crossing every hurdle with dogged determination to achieve their aims and objectives in spite of the brickbats/flak and consequences of the risks they are taking.

Fifthly, it is time to take a look at lessons we can learn from recent events. If you have the time, please read:

Let's Get into Action-the truth about BERSIH 2.0 Rally 9th July 2011

"When the elected misuse their powers and undermine the vital organs of the government, they have lost the right to stay in office. There are two ways to punish political perverts who have raped democracy: vote them out or take to the streets. The ballot box is the ideal choice, but the date with destiny has not been fixed." Editorial, Herald News, July 3rd, 2011

The upcoming BERSIH 2.0 Rally scheduled for 9th July 2011, is all about making the voice of the voiceless heard for free and fair elections in Malaysia. Propagated by the government and government supported organisations like PERKASA , TV and newspapers have been portraying BERSIH with much controversy and myth.

For the record, BERSIH 2.0 is an independent coalition of 62 non-government organisations and they are unaffiliated to any political party. BERSIH is headed by Ms. S Ambiga . She has made it clear that this rally is about the 'rakyat' demanding for a free and fair election. She has also voiced that the reason for such a rally, is because the Election Commission has not been committed in making the necessary electoral reforms. While she did acknowledge that there were some small reforms, more is needed to ensure a free and fair election.

The demands of BERSIH 2.0 are stated below:

1. Clean up the electoral roll to address irregularities,

2. Reform postal voting,

3. Use indelible ink,

4. Establish a minimum campaign period of 21 days,

5. Ensure free and fair access for all political parties to the media,

6. Strengthen public institutions,

7. Get rid of corruption, and

8. Put a stop to dirty politics.

The issue of the BERSIH Rally being illegal has been challenged by many. The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) has thrown its weight behind all three planned rallies on July 9 by stating "the "supreme law" of the court, the Federal Constitution guarantees the freedom of assembly."

The Federal Constitution of Malaysia in Article 10 states that citizens have the right to "freedom of speech and expression," which includes the right to peaceful assembly as well as the right to freedom of association.

It is tragic that many have been arrested during the past few weeks, just for supporting the BERSIH 2.0 rally. The authorities have used many laws and reason for the arrest. Some of the arrests go beyond explanation or justification. As of late, six, including Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar, were re-arrested, under Section 3(1) of the Emergency Ordinance because they were suspected to be involved in activities disrupting the peace in the country.

The Emergency [Public Order and Prevention of Crime] Ordinance 1969 ("Ordinance") came into force on May 16, 1969, in the aftermath of the race riots which erupted against a backdrop of the ruling coalition's loss of its two-thirds majority in Parliament. In the wake of these riots in which over 200 people were killed, the King declared a state of emergency. Consequently, Parliament and the Constitution were suspended and the Ordinance was enacted. The Ordinance was devised as a direct response to the race riots. Just like the Internal Security Act 1960 [ISA] the Ordinance is another preventive detention law which allows the executive branch of government to detain an individual without trial. In brief, Section 3 of the Ordinance allows a Police Officer [PO] to arrest an individual if the PO suspects that an individual having acted, or being about to act, or being likely to act in any manner prejudicial to Public Order or if he has reason to believe that it is necessary for the suppression of violence or the protection of crimes, the individual may be detained in police custody for a period not exceeding 60 days ("initial period"). Upon expiry of the initial period the Minister by virtue of Section 4(1) of the Ordinance can detain the individual for a period not exceeding 2 years.

In recent times the Ordinance was used against violent criminals and suspected gangsters . The usage of the Ordinance on six Parti Sosialist Malaysia members is however, unprecedented.

This Ordinance has long past its due date and its relevance in today's Malaysian legal context. The authorities however continue to abuse it for its own vested interest.

Whatever you do unto the least of my brothers, you do it unto me. ( Matthew 25:40)

As Chirstians we cannot confine our faith lives to inside the church. We are called to live our faith vibrantly and to respond to the injustices that grip our society. In the context of the aforesaid arrest and detention, Chirstians can act in solidarity by sending memo's, letters, emails and sign online petitions to the Prime Minister and Home Minister's Department demanding for the immediate release of these activists and all those who were arrested in the course of this week.

As Christians, in faith, we are strongly guided by the teachings of Jesus, who always stood for truth, justice and fairness. Today, as Malaysians, we are faced with discrimination and violations to human rights in many forms. Drawing our strength from the Holy Eucharist, our weekly celebration must enable us to speak up and exercise our rights as the citizens of Malaysia. Let us 'Stand up and Be Counted' for all the victims violations. We take courage in the Gospel of Luke 4:18, which invites us to "proclaim liberty to the captives".

Rest assured God is with us on this journey of change.

And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindly, And to walk humbly with your God Micah 6:8
