"Kita beri anda amaran terakhir.

"Kita beri anda amaran terakhir.

THE ELECTION COMMISSION – A DISHONEST AND UNTRUTHFUL BUNCH

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 08:56 AM PDT

The Election Commission (EC) says that there have been some technical glitches in the electoral roll, but they stop short of accepting full responsibility. If there were only one or two glitches, then I and many others are willing to accept that there was no malice intended against the opposition. But the glitches are far too numerous in obvious intent to cheat in order to booster the BN's chances of winning hugely in the up-coming GE. I could not find a much kinder expression, but to use the derogatory word CHEAT to express rancor towards the EC for failing in their duty to maintain an apolitical stance and sworn duty to remain neutral in the management of their functions and duties. I now believe that cheating has been the hallmark of the EC all these years, and it is high time that all likeminded Malaysians put a brake to all this.

Me, being an ex soldier and a leader of men, I am always reminded of the qualities of a good leader, and what I try to hold dearly are these three qualities i.e. integrity, honesty and sincerity. It is not only me that tries to uphold such princely qualities, but there are also many others like me. You see leadership come with responsibilities and being a leader, one must set good examples all the time. It is not only the soldiers that will constantly be watching you, but their families as well. Throughout my years in the service, I have seen it all i.e. the good and not so good leaders, but I always remind myself that if I do not like the behavior and character of the not so good leaders, then I will make sure that I do not emulate their examples. But I would say that I was most fortunate to have served under some of the finest military leaders; without whom I wouldn't be what I am today.

Looking at the experience that I have gone through and comparing it with what I see happening in the EC, I think the EC is well below my standard i.e. they are not honest and a pack of liars. And mind you, the commission is answerable to the King, and if it were the military, the top echelon officers would have gone to the gallows. This is where the military differs from the civil service. It is the discipline imbued in the military training that makes all the difference. Lying and dishonestly is a serious offence in the military that is liable to punishment and even a dishonorable discharge. However such offence makes little sense to the EC, and this applies to some of our political leaders as well. Do we not often hear our political leaders make lots of promises during an election, only to renege their promises upon them winning. If they have lied once, they will continue to lie and this is the culture that I find most prevalent and disgusting among our leaders.

PM Najib now say that he intend to meet up with the EC to resolve issues affecting the commission. I suppose Najib is concern at the demands of Bersih and the many complains brought about by the opposition and civil society regarding the EC. But why leave out the very people that demanded change in the EC? Why not get Bersih into the discussion and some notable likeminded personalities as well. Najib has to show openness and sincerity in wanting to see change in EC, but openness seems to have eluded Najib. Why is this so? And what about his slogan "rakyat di dahulukan, pencapaian diutamakan". Does this slogan mean nothing to him?

CRUSADE AGAINST CORRUPTION

Umno-appointed Senator Ezam above the law - can carry out criminal acts

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 08:44 AM PDT

Senator Ezam Mohd Nor's threats to burn down news portals is a "criminal act" and the police and attorney-general must take immediate action against him, said PKR vice president N Surendran.

NONE Surendran (right) in a statement yesterday evening said, "This is an outrageous threat to the property and offices of these two news portals; more seriously, it is also a threat of grievous harm or death against their staff, writers and other occupants. We are appalled that a sitting member of the Dewan Negara has uttered such words and threatened publicly to carry out criminal acts."

He was responding to Ezam's statement at a rally at Selangor state mosque in Shah Alam yesterday when he was reportedly to have said, "Malaysiakini, Malaysian Insider, we are giving you a very last warning. Our warning is a serious one. If you do not stop this rubbish, we are going to burn you down!"

Ezam spoke in defence of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department's (Jais) raid on a church in Petaling Jaya last week.

Surendran, who is a lawyer, stressed that such a blatant threat was a criminal offence under the laws, saying, "The police and the attorney-general must take immediate action against Ezam Mohd Nor under sections 503 and 505 of the Penal Code, for criminal intimidation and mischief."

Timb Menteri Tak Setuju Kerajaan Samakan BERS✔H 2.0 Dengan Rusuhan London

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 08:11 AM PDT

-TMI

Persian comedy hour: 'Iran ready to send peacekeepers to UK'

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 07:10 AM PDT

Though this does read like a comedy, these douchebags are serious. And, of course, they're trying to get back at the UK.
(Press TV) Commander of Iran's Basij Force says it is ready to deploy peacekeeper forces in London as the unrest in the British capital drags on despite tightened security measures.

"The Ashura brigades of Basij forces are ready to be deployed to London as peacekeeping forces," Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Naqdi said on Thursday, Fars news agency reported.

Naqdi criticized the British authorities for their harsh crackdown of protesters and describing them as rioters and hooligans.

"Unfortunately the crimes and violence of the autocratic British kingdom continues against the country's deprived [population] and not only the advice of well-wishers has no effect on the conduct of the regime's repressive police force but we witness the deprived people of this country are being called a bunch of thieves and looters," he regretted.

Back To School – Taylor’s University

Kevin To the Vietnamese geek.

Hello people, I am feeling very TL right now because I have typed a very long post and WordPress didn't auto-save it and now I have to retype again, but I am going into summary mode right now. Haha.

Steve and Wesley addicted to the new game, Fruit Processing,

So I am now back to school, back to college or university, whatever term that you want to name it. So far so good, assignment is compiling now, more and more. Stress, sleepless night, many thinking and work are coming to me. It will be tired, but I don't mind, because that's life right? How can life be interesting when there's nothing to do.

Nick the blogger, me.

Added more pool table and foosball table. All coin operated. WTH.

School has been good for the passed 2 weeks. I saw the Singaporean director Jack Neo who directed the movie "I Am Not Stupid" came to my campus to do some shooting for its sequel. So lame was that the film crew didn't allow us to take any photo of the scene and process. How stupid it was.

Just spotted a few scene and didn't bother to go check it out as there's nothing much interesting, it only get interested when the film is out and I will see my school in it. =D

One thing I dislike about Taylor's is now they started charging parking fee at RM3 per entry, though being a kiam siap (selfish) people, I park at the free zone far far away (as there's still two free rocky zone) and I have to walk under the hot sun everyday. What a money face school. And one more is they also charge their shuttle bus service for commuting students to hostel and the other campus, really ridiculous.

So now is mid-Hungry Ghost Month, don't go out so much, it's the most scariest part of the month and I heard that people same year born as me, 1992 is advised to wear red clothing on Monday, 15 August which is to block all the bad luck. I am in, how about you? =D

BERS✔H Bidas SPR Lebih Berminat Pertahan Kedudukan Pemerintah

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 06:50 AM PDT

COMPETITION IS HEALTHY! Selangor, Penang match Putrajaya’s bonus!

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — The Pakatan Rakyat (PR)-led state governments of Selangor and Penang have decided to match Putrajaya's half-month Hari Raya bonus to civil servants, two days after Datuk Seri Najib Razak made the announcement. Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said that the state would increase its initial RM500 bonus to all staff announced last week "to ensure that there is no discrimination" between state and federal civil servants.
Similarly, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today that his administration would be giving out a half-month bonus pay or minimum RM600 to civil servants in the state while Fardu Ain and Religious Class (Kafa) teachers would receive RM300 per person.
Lim said that the bonus was a sign of Penang's "appreciation" towards the contribution and efforts of civil servants in the state.
"This bonus can help civil servants prepare for the Hari Raya celebrations," he told reporters today.
Khalid has, however, denied that Selangor's move was political in nature, insisting "the state has funds so we should give according to our capability."
Najib had announced the half-month bonus to 1.3 million government staff and RM500 to 600,000 pensioners ahead of Hari Raya amid rising concerns over inflation.
The prime minister, who is expected to call a general election within the year, said that the payout totalling RM2 billion "can lighten the burden ... for the upcoming Aidil Fitri celebration" which falls at the end of the month.
Hari Raya Aidil Fitri is expected to see muted celebrations after the consumer price index hit a two-year high of three per cent in March and continued to rise to 3.5 per cent in June, when government subsidies for basic necessities were slashed.
Putrajaya said that the price hikes to fuel, sugar and electricity were necessary to keep a subsidy bill from doubling to RM21 billion this year, as it seeks to reduce its budget deficit that hit a two-decade peak of seven per cent in 2009.
Barisan Nasional (BN) has traditionally held strong in areas with large populations of civil servants such as Putrajaya, an important vote bank for the ruling coalition.
But in the landmark 2008 general election, where it ceded five state governments and its customary two-thirds majority in Parliament, BN saw its majorities cut in these areas and even lost the Shah Alam federal seat, previously considered an Umno stronghold where most of Selangor's civil servants reside.
Selangor is expected to be a major battlefield for the coming general election with Umno determined to win back the country's richest state.
Najib has called on BN's machinery in the state to reclaim it "at all costs."
Along with a two-thirds majority in Parliament, Selangor is also a prize that the BN chief is said to require to guarantee he stays in office.

Ali Kamaruddin (Mamat Exist) Hantu Dadah

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 05:07 AM PDT

Ulasan GB

Dulu-dulu lagu "Oh Ibu" nyanyian Mamat ni jadi pujaan ramai.

Makcik-makcik pun ramai berkenan nak jadikan Mamat menantu.

Rupa-rupanya kini Mamat dah jadi hantu. Hantu dadah...

Looking Beyond "Lolita" Part 1

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 04:10 AM PDT

Earlier today, I put up "Lolita" and me to revisit Nabokov's famous novel. I was supposed to write this post after that but was a tad distracted by the issue of patrol boats. Now that I have finished that post Lest We Forget, the time has come for me to talk about Lolita - again. :-) You can read Lolita online HERE.

Scholars who read the original manuscript of "Lolita" aka "The Confession of a White Widowed Male" surmise that the story is a confession as Humbert, the protagonist dies in jail. While some argue he is a pedophile, he is in fact being tried for murder rather than pedophilia. The book, "Lolita" can be viewed as Humbert's confession about his  pedophiliac affair (or love affair, as Humbert argues) and of the strange nymphet character, Lolita.

What I find interesting is Nabokov's doubling of the title that mimics the doubling of the author's pseudonym, Humbert Humbert. Throughout the book, Nabokov uses the linguistic pattern of doubled words and doubled characters to suggest the play of and even the overlap between opposites. .

Many readers wonder if indeed 'Lolita' existed in Nabokov's life. Obviously, Nabokov teases us and plays games in order to keep us guessing. What is most interesting is that factual truth is ultimately less interesting than the manner in which that truth is recounted by Humbert!

If you have read Nabokov's other works which you can view HERE, you can clearly see that to him, words are meant to be revered and if used properly, language can elevate anything to an art form. Despite the shocking content, Nabokov uses language to give the story the shades of beauty which some may feel it does not deserve! And why? "Lolita"  is filled with elements of rape, murder, pedophilia, and incest.

And yet, via the use of puns, literary allusions, and repeating linguistic patterns Humbert Humbert tells his story, most enchantingly. You may be filled with chagrin, like I was, because Nabokov craftily uses Humbert to 'seduce' us and win us over, much like the way Humbert seduces Lolita!

In the story, Humbert's power and strength lies in his words which he uses to the max to distract, to charm and even to confuse! Despite being a pedophile and a murderer, he builds up elaborate justifications for his actions, and his mastery in the use of language shields him from condemnation.

I don't know about you, but I feel that the winning element about "Lolita" is that fact that Nabokov subtly transforms readers to be complicit in Humbert's crimes. The worse thing is, much as I may hate the whole question of pedophilia, rape, and murder, as I read and move into the story, I am completely immersed in Humbert's words, forced to think about the hidden meanings in a feeble attempt to understand what makes Humbert tick and who he is! As one falls prey to Nabokov's persuasive and skillful use of language, I really cannot keep Humbert at a distance far enough to assess who he is! In short, I am became an unwilling victim of Nabokov's wiles and charms! Sighs.

"Lolita" also shows us how the interactions between European (Humbert) and American cultures (think Charlotte Haze) result in perpetual misunderstandings and conflict. While Charlotte Haze accepts Humbert  because she is charmed by his glamour and intellect, Humbert does not reciprocate accordingly for Charlotte.

Quite openly, Humbert mocks the superficiality and transience of American culture and most condescendingly, regards Charlotte as nothing but a simple-minded housewife. In sharp contrast, he adores every one of Lolita's vulgarities and chronicles every detail of his tour of America. Perhaps this is a subtle hint as to how much he enjoys the possibilities for freedom along the open American road. Eventually, Humbert admits that it is he who has defiled the country rather than the other way around.

As Humbert and Lolita travel together, they develop their own version of peace. Ironically, their union is clearly not based on understanding or acceptance. On one hand, Lolita cannot understand the depth of Humbert's devotion for art, history, and culture. On the other hand, Humbert could never truly recognize Lolita's unwillingness to let him sophisticate her. As the story develops, Lolita abandons Humbert for the American Quilty, who does not bore her with any high culture or grand passions.

I guess we can never understand Humbert's passion for Lolita which goes beyond basic psychological analysis. In the story,  Humbert does his best to discredit the entire field of psychology thrown scorn on Freudian psychology.

A good example is how Humbert lies through his teeth to the psychiatrists at the sanitarium. He states that Pratt, the headmistress of Lolita's school, has diagnosed Lolita as sexually immature, completely ignorant that Lolita has an overly active sex life with her stepfather.

With such a plot. Nabokov goes against authority and logic by demanding that readers view Humbert as a unique and deeply flawed human being, but not an insane one! As Humbert rationalizes in his thoughts and descriptions of his feelings for Lolita, Humbert has actually redefined his feelings as one huge and uncontrollable emotion beyond comprehension or classification. Obviously, since Nabokov himself was deeply critical of psychiatry, he uses "Lolita" to attack that field.

There is so much more that I want to discuss in this post but it is 7.07pm and I am supposed to be at a friend's bbq by 8 p.m and have not showered because I have been at the laptop since 2pm. I started this post and then detoured to Lest We Forget and then came back to this post. I will continue in Part 2 after the bbq. :-(  Have a lovely evening!

* Update @ 12.30am...Too tired to write Part 2 of this post.....To be continued tomorrow....Good night!

No Hair Cutting, Shaving Or Hanging Clothes!

Posted: 13 Aug 2011 03:22 AM PDT

Cutting hair, shaving, going for outings and hanging clothes outside the house are among the things people should avoid doing at night throughout the Hungry Ghost Festival.

People should also avoid moving house and getting a new vehicle, as it is believed that the chances of bumping into ghosts are higher by doing all these.

'Keep away from the walls because ghosts love sticking to it,' said Master Szeto Fat-ching, a famous exorcist and feng shui guru from Hong Kong.

Now, I don't know about you but I seriously find that hard to believe. First of all, let me say that I am in no way insulting this festival, but do you seriously think cutting your hair, shaving or moving house would really make you bump into ghosts?

Come on, has anyone of you actually bumped into a ghost after doing any of the above (I know there are many more taboos about this festival) during this period? Seriously, if you have, please do share as I would really like to know if all this warnings are really true.

I'm a self confessed coward when it comes to all things supernatural and have had my fair share of ghostly incidences but I don't believe doing everyday things like moving house or buying a new vehicle would increase your chances of bumping into ghosts. Sometimes, I think all these are just made up to scare people :D

I mean, take my grandmother for instance. She used to say that we cannot cut our fingernails or whistle after 6pm or the bogey man will come get you. I religiously followed that warnings when I was a kid and I would never touch a nail clipper after 6pm or whistle even if my life depended upon it. These days though, I cut my fingernails at ungodly hours and even whistle in the middle of the night and I'm glad to say that the bogey man hasn't turned up yet, though I hope that by saying that, the darned bogey man doesn't decide to come taunt me the next time I cut my nails at 10pm at night ... hahaha!

Sometimes I think these so called Feng Sui guru's are just a bunch of people who love to make up stories just so they can sell people things that will supposedly make their lives better and become super rich or something. Heck, if I was a Feng Sui guru and knew how to become super rich by just placing a frog statue at the foot of my couch, I wouldn't share that knowledge with anyone and might as well just become filthy rich all by myself ... hahaha!

I'm sorry if you're one of those who believe in Feng Sui and I apologize if I many have insulted you with this post but I think the only one getting rich when it comes to Feng Sui are the so called Feng Sui guru's themselves. But then, I guess each to his own. If you think placing your chair or couch facing the planet Jupiter will bring you massive wealth, then good for you.

But just to be safe, I'm going to stay far away from my walls during this hungry ghost festival since they apparently love sticking to walls, I guess they must all be spider man fans ... hahaha! Ok, ok, I should really stop making fun of this but heck, I really can't help it. Oh wait a minute, I better go check to see if it's safe to run late in the evenings or early mornings cos I don't fancy a bunch of hungry ghosts running along with me!

UMNO Terkedu. Perlis Dah Lama Kuatkuasa Larangan Pembesar Suara Waktu Suboh

Larang pembesar suara: Perlis sokong Pulau Pinang

-mk

Pentagon scientists on Friday acknowledged they were puzzled by the failed flight test of an experimental hypersonic plane and said they were trying to understand what went wrong.

About nine minutes after separating from a rocket Thursday, researchers lost contact with the unmanned aircraft, a prototype global bomber designed to travel at 20 times the speed of sound.

Tajuddin settlement proof political patronage alive and well

Tajuddin settlement proof political patronage alive and well, says Pakatan
By Shannon Teoh August 11, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 —Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has flayed Putrajaya's decision to drop all claims against Tan Sri Tajuddin Ramli, calling it proof that Barisan Nasional (BN) is resorting to political patronage to fund its war chest ahead of the next general election.
Opposition lawmakers said the out-of-court settlement was a "scratch-your-back, you-scratch-mine" deal that would allow the former chairman of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to further reduce an initial RM1.8 billion owed to state-owned debt restructuring firm Danaharta.

[...]

DAP publicity chief Tony Pua also said that "this shows that political patronage is alive and well in the country."

"This sounds the death knell of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's New Economic Model and Economic Transformation Programme when the prime minister can allow cronies to get away at the expense of public interest," the Petaling Jaya Utara MP said.

He added that as 37 other parties were told to drop suits against Tajuddin, a poster boy of the Mahathir-era policy to raise Malay corporate captains on government largesse, total funds including interest lost to the public could be in the tens of billions.

The Malaysian Insider reported today that Putrajaya has directed all government-linked companies, including MAS and Danaharta, to cease all civil suits against Tajuddin.
