Yes, they are! Those working at The Economist are just parrots of international Press; at worst, its plainly demeaning.
Its special blog for Asia, namely Banyan (not sure whether the writer is based in Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok or Phnom Penh) is good at fabricating facts and figures - typical of any foreign journalists who would find ways to tamper with actualities.
Reading its analysis about Najib's reforms simply indicates how easy it is to undermine a government without the writer having to be there. Not only Malaysia but any policy introduced by the Asia governments are deemed as 'backward' and not parallel to what is being practiced in the US and Europe.
(I remember the internationally-known CNN journo Peter Arnett whom I met in Baghdad in 1983. He only reported from the lobby of El-Rashid Hotel, gathering info from other journalists and military personel).
"Some on the extreme Malay wing of the (Umno) party grumble that all this reform stuff is going too far, but they will go along with it as long as it does not touch on the most profound sources of oppression and grievance in the country, the institutionalised ethnic discrimination that privileges Malays over the country's other races, mainly Chinese and Indians (here). It is the system of ethnic quotas and divisions that is really holding the country back—if Mr Najib started to take an axe to all that, then absolutely nobody would question his credentials as a radical reformer."
I am not sure what does the writer mean by 'institutionalised ethnic discrimination' but the label comes from the Opposition.
But I am glad that there are Malaysians who are willing to stand up for the country, if not for the government. Some of the comments are not defensive of the government (in some ways) but are logically linger to the true picture of the country.
(1) "I'm not sure why The Economist - specifically, Banyan - keeps trying to imply that bumi Malaysians, or rather Malays, will blindly vote for any party just for financial gains or religious necessity. It's a bit insulting that The Economist thinks that the ethnic Malays are unable to see pass immediate financial gains or religious dogma - i.e. thinking of progressive growth reforms - when it comes to the polls..."
(2) "The reforms that will be implemented by Prime Minister Najib Razak in Malaysia will hopefully serve as an example to the rest of the developing countries in the region, such as Singapore and Indonesia. It seems as though this article was penned a little to early because it is awarding a great deal of optimism for a leader who is described as an "indecisive technocrat."
(3) It seems like Malaysia is going through some major dynamic changes in several sectors of their society. The economy is in a boom due to the cheap, but effective medical procedures that are drawing in "medical tourists", and now the slight power shift from the government to the people on the political scene. With these changes, they will probably draw more attention on the international scene. This may cause some larger powers to invest in this smaller country, causing an even greater boom, which could then create an even greater shift of power to the people. I'm going to keep a watchful eye on Malaysia for this domino effect."
However, there are also some batterings:
(1) "And to those that criticized Singapore have the similar ISA laws, check this, Singapore GDP in 2009 is 182bil while Malaysia is 193bil but Singapore GDP per capita in 2009 is USD$36,537, Malaysia is $7,030, in another word, Singaporean made FIVE times more than Malaysian. While 2 countries start at the same starting line and Singapore has much more disadvantage Lee Kuan Yew make all the right law to protect their country while Mahartir made all the law to protect his own people (excluding most Chinese). Najib is just another dog from Dr Mah kampung whilst he can be more brutal than Dr Mah, just ask Ms Mongolian lady."
(2) "Race based discrimination does more harm than good in every country where it is practiced - Nigeria, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, China, USA. Those who benefit from it will never give it up voluntarily. Malaysia will never be able to rid itself of its greatest cancer without bloodshed. This country has no place to go but down. It's better the government just does a population swap with China and India, 7 million Chinese-Malaysians for 7 million Chinese muslim-Uighurs, and 3 million Indian-Malaysian for 3 million muslim-Indians. That way 100% of its all-muslim population can benefit from affirmative action, win-win!"
PS, why hasn't anybody (bloggers, journalists, politicians, others) commented on Najib's statement about 'Bumi quotas'?

Meet My Brother At Raffles Place – Raffles Place, Singapore, it's just like the Central in Hong Kong which is the CBD (Central Business District) of the city. Fill with high rise office towers and at Raffles Place, it situated Singapore's tallest buildings the OUB Centre, Republic Plaza and UOB Plaza One.
I alighted at Raffles Place MRT station to meet up with my brother who was working at that area on a Friday. It feels so "Hong Kong" when I got out of the MRT station where I was surrounded by high rise buildings. Looking around, it's just white collars and office lady everywhere, walking fast to the MRT station to get home or to somewhere else. There's nothing that looks like it in Malaysia. In Malaysia, after work, many has their own private vehicles and office buildings spread out all over the cities.

Short Walk At Clarke Quay, Singapore – I went to Singapore few months back to check out Saturday In Design event and in the trip, I went to the famous night life spot in the city, Clarke Quay at night for a short walk. It's really a fast walk at there as brother and I didn't want to go back that early after checking out Marina Bay Sands.
I have been here before few years back, and I am here again. Though, it's still walking around and didn't spend time at any of the pubs or bistro.
I see people playing the reverse bungee thingy which is pretty scary, yet expensive. I felt like want to try but I was at scared at the same time. HAHA. It looks fun and exciting from far. It's a gigantic swing, swing you up and down. Have you tried it before?
Clarke Quay is really a nice place for people who doesn't want to go home at night, it's a very happenings night life spot in Singapore with lots of pubs and bistros. I am very amaze with the crowds and everything is so well-organized. Unlike Kuala Lumpur where pubs are pretty spread out in the city. Given that Changkat Bukit Bintang has a similar function, yet it's so much smaller when compare to Clarke Quay.
Just tour the place for a while, and finally tiredness attacked me then we went back home. =D

Korean pop group T-ara has officially released their Japanese debut single, Bo Beep Bo Beep, on September 28th. Check out the MV and some album jacket images…
The song is a remake of their 2009 Korean hit (same title). The single is doing well despite the obvious slang (perhaps that's what the J-fans are craving for lol), topping the Japanese sales chart on its first day of release.

Annoyed by an Utusan Malaysia commentary criticising his debut movie Nasi Lemak 2.0, rapper-cum-filmaker Wee Meng Chee, who is better known as Namewee, disparaged the Malay daily in his latest video, calling it a "rubbish paper", saying that he can accept criticism from those who have watched his movie but not from the author who did not conduct any "research" before commenting.
She then recounted several video clips made by Namewee, that had offended many people and insulted Muslims in the country, including the controversial Negarakuku.
Responding to the article, Namewee uploaded another video clip in the Malay language to video sharing website YouTube last night entitled 'Namewee Fxxx Utusan' and said he would remove the video at midnight tonight, claiming in Chinese that he is doing this for his family and good friends and hoped people would understand his decision.
So what are you waiting for?

Polis: Letupan Empire Gallery tiada kaitan kerja sabotaj, pengganas
-TMI

The moment I walked into the HIV clinic this morning, SN told me about the guy whose transportation to a shelter home in Penang was sponsored by us some time ago. The guy ended up leaving the shelter home just like that without even notifying the management of the place. I guess all he wanted was a place to stay where he could do as he liked without being subjected to rules and regulations.
According to SN, the guy passed away last Sunday. I asked SN who claimed his body since he was homeless. SN never thought about that. She said she'd check with the mortuary to find out.
There were supposed to be 3 new cases today but when I first got to the clinic, none had turned up yet. But it didn't take long before the first case was referred to me. One of the junior nurses at the HIV clinic came in and behind her was a guy on a wheelchair helped by another nurse from a district hospital where the guy had been hospitalised for the past month.
Nizam was initially hospitalised for Hep C and TB, and subsequent tests found him to be HIV infected. In addition, he was also diagnosed with cerebral toxoplasmosis.
Well, he didn't talk much. Even the questions I asked, he'd just give me a single word answer. I ended up just giving him our brochure and the number to call in case one day he needed to talk to someone.
The next case referred was Lim, a guy in his early 50's who couldn't speak much Malay. I was on duty alone today so didn't have any Chinese-speaking volunteer to help me out. Luckily Lim came with his brother who could at least speak broken Malay.
Lim had been diagnosed HIV+ since 2 years ago when he was working overseas. He had already been on HAART before he came back to Malaysia and so his case wasn't really a new case. I didn't really have to brief him about HIV as he was already well informed. But with his asthmatic problem in addition to his HIV, is unable to work and while he is currently staying alone in a rented house (he is unmarried), his financial needs are being covered by his siblings. Since the siblings aren't well off either, the brother was hoping some sort of welfare help could be arranged for Lim.
Next case referred was another single Chinese guy, in his late 50's. Again, this wasn't a newly diagnosed case. Tan had been diagnosed since more than ten years ago and had been going for his follow ups in KL but when he moved back to Ipoh to stay with his mother, he didn't bother to get a referral letter and so didn't go for any more follow-ups until recently when he finally decided he'd better arrange to see the doctor so he could start on his HAART soon enough if his CD4 level plunged.
While I was still talking to Tan, SN walked in with another guy to be referred to me. Again, this wasn't a newly diagnosed case. But according to SN, he needed to talk to someone about the future of his wife and children.
Imran was diagnosed HIV+ since a few years ago and had been on HAART for 3 years. Ever since diagnosed, Imran had been working hard to earn some income for his family and did so quite successfully by setting up his own small business, with the help of his wife. However, of late he had been unwell, easily feeling tired… sometimes to the extent that he had to close shop as early as noon. This had affected his business and so Imran is worried what would happen to his wife and children should he die in the near future. With 3 children, all still in primary school, they have a long way to go to complete schooling.
I assured Imran that we should be able to help out with the children's schooling. Just as I was about to suggest that he employs someone to help out with his business, Imran mentioned about wanting to employ a worker so that the business can still continue even when he's not around, but for the moment he doesn't have enough capital to do so. He had gone to a bank to apply for a loan. Loan was approved but he needed a guarantor, something he couldn't get. I suggested to him to seek assistance from agencies like MARA to help out.
I could see that Imran wanted to say more to me, but by this time he already had tears in his eyes. He somehow felt that his time will come in the not so distant future and he's afraid he won't be able to put the business on track for his wife to just take over when the time comes…

Kuota Bumiputera: Najib ikut kata Soi Lek?
KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Sept: Adakah Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Razak mengikut kata Presiden MCA, Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek berhubung penghapusan kuota ekonomi?
Terdapat keperluan hindari sistem kuota, kata Najib

The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their weekend assignment had been to sell something, then give a talk on productive salesmanship.
Little Sally led off:
"I sold girl scout cookies and I made $30," she said proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civil spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success."
"Very good," said the teacher.
Little Mary was next:
"I sold magazines," she said, "I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events."
"Very good, Mary," said the teacher.
Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath...
Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk. "$2,467" he said.
"$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling?"
"Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny.
"Toothbrushes!" echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell
enough toothbrushes to make that much money?"
"I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny, "I set up a Dip & Chip stand and gave everybody who walked by a free sample."
They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog shit!"
Then I would say, "It is dog shit. Wanna buy a toothbrush?"
"I used the government approach of giving you something shitty for free, and then making you pay to get the taste out of your mouth."

Alamak! Either it was not a lucky day for former Penang Chief Minister and Gerakan President Tan Sri Kon Tsu Koon or... it really was a jinx!
He fell off his bicycle during PM Najib Tun Razak's 1Malaysia Charity Ride for Education 2011 in Penang last week. It was simply a 7km route and the riders merely took about 30 minutes to finish what was essentially a fun ride on a Sunday.
"But it came as no surprise that our Koh Tsu Koon aka Durian With No Seeds could not finished the race."He tumbled, claming two bikers tried to overtake him and he fell off his bike. Well, we feel sorry for him but we could not help speculating if he was too clumsy, too slow and just too incompetent," said Stopthelies.
I wonder what is the 'message' behind the posting...
Bad omen? Sorry... dunno lar!

- Agensi

Bahan Cetakan Al-Quran Ditemui Di Kawasan Perindustrian Mergong
