Sembang2 Kosong

"Akak? Masa saya kecik2 dulu, saya pernah tengok kubur aruah makcik tua ni..orang kampung nak kebumikan mayat dia tapi kubur dia asyik bertakung dengan air dan dalam tu ada banyak u..r dan k..la." kata Jun (nama samaran).

"Puas Tok Imam baca2 tapi takboleh gak..buang jer air isi balik..
Tu laah Allah nak tunjuk kan?"

"Adoi..takutnyer!"

Baik budaknya tapi haritu aku marah dia..adapulak dia panggil aku bos..macam menyindir.

("Bila pulak saya buat awak macam kuli?
Saya anggap awak macam keluarga!
Punyalah saya layan anak2 awak komain!"

"Mintak maaf kak! Mintak maaf banyak2!")

"Kalau betul lah dia berbuat begitu, nanti bila nak mati, siaplah!
Sekarang tak takutlah.
Astaghfirullahhal'azeem..seghun2!

Jun?

Aku menanya lagi..
"Makcik tu dosa aper agaknya?"

Jawab Jun.."Dia pakai susuk.."

"Takkan pakai susuk sampai gitu sekali?"

"Adalah lagi dosa2 masa mudanya.."
Aku diam..menelan cerita yang menakutkan itu.

Beralih tentang seorang kawannya yang dulu duduk sekampung..

"Kawan saya ni kak anaknya 5. Suami kaya banyak duit.
Tapi dia gi main dengan lelaki muder!
Bila suaminya keluar, dia ajak teman lelaki masuk ikut pintu belakang.."

"Kenapa dia buat gitu? Dah? Suaminya tak tahu?"

"Akhirnya dapat tahu. Cerai.."

"Bila ni?"

"Dah kat 5 tahun!

Tapi Kak.. ada satu benda..suami dia kuat minum arak!"

"O kesiannya. Kita tak tahu apa sebenarnya berlaku.
Mungkin suaminya bantai dia waktu mabuk?
Tapi dia patut jangan berlawan macam tu!
Ni menambah dosa dia!"

"Sekarang mana dia?"

"Masih dengan budak lelaki tu tapi tak kawin2!"

"Suami dia tu dah kawin semula dengan pompuan pub!"

"Ya Allah! Hancur rumahtangga dia..tapi diapun silap..
Allah menguji dia dan dia gi main macam tu! Sedihnya".

Aku bertambah terharu..

Kami berborak macam2 topik lagi.

Sampai ke bab cerita tentang seorang guru beranak 3.

"Umur 30an..Cikgu.
Lama dah dia bercerai..suaminya hendakkan perempuan lain.
Orangnya gemuk. Lepas bercerai, dia pasanglah 'body'.

Baghu ni bertunang dengan seorang polis. Katanya duda polis anak 6.
Suaminya ajak berbalik..dia taknak daah".

Sebab sekali sekala gi masjid..tu laah pasal.

Allah dah sediakan tapi akak tak rajin ke masjid..
Dah ada menunggu.
Cuma belum kutip..

3)Bagi wajah yang cantik menawan secara semulajadi;
Alhamdulillah syukur, kiranya anugerah dari Allah SWT..syukur2.

Tetapi,

9/11 remembered, 9/17 forgotten...

Twenty-nine years have past, my goodness. Their families will never forget them. Neither will they forget the extremes of inhumanity and human compassion, the ugliness and beauty, the laughter and grins while murdering with a disregard for humanity and life impossible to comprehend, and the tears and cries of deepest despair and suffering no human being, not even an animal should experience.

It was the day when the world failed the Palestinians. To the 4,800 victims (official figures by the ICRC in 1983) of Sabra and Shatilla massacre, we still remember...

Israel’s missed opportunities

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 09:28 AM PDT

by Anwar Ibrahim

In the prologue to The History of the Destruction of Jerusalem, the author Josephus tells us that works written earlier by others "were marred by inaccuracies and prejudice" and that he "hopes to comfort the conquered and to deter others from attempting innovations".

Josephus' classic account is indeed a gripping story evoking powerful emotions and leaves us in no doubt as to where our sympathy lies: As the mighty Romans lord over the powerless Jewish inhabitants of Jerusalem perpetuating cruelty and injustice, the story is as old as mankind. The oppression of human beings by fellow human beings is not a tale told by an idiot but by the chronicle of time. And as this history repeats itself, the once oppressed can easily become the oppressor. Where once it was the all-powerful Romans against the downtrodden Jews, today it is the high and mighty regime of Israel against the helpless Palestinians.

Adding to this state of oppression is the deadly flotilla attack by Israeli commandos under the Netanyahu government, in which nine people were killed – with at least seven having been handcuffed and shot in the back of the head. Yet the latest United Nations report on the attack has completely gone off the mark by concluding that Israel's blockade of Gaza was a legitimate act of self-defence.

According to the Palmer Commission's report, the legitimacy purportedly arises from Israel having to take necessary steps to protect its people from violent acts by Palestinian militants in Gaza, such as the firing of illegal rockets into Israel.

While no one condones violent acts that threaten the security of the people of Israel, the purported rationale for self-defence in this case flies against the facts, the most telling of which is that a unilateral ceasefire by Hamas had already been in place since early 2009. Bereft of this pretext, the entire edifice for the perpetuation of deadly force by Israel crumbles.

But that is cold comfort for the 1.5 million Palestinians being incarcerated in Gaza, who are now at the mercy of Israel's land and naval blockade, which continues to deny them their right to move freely within and between all countries. Sanctioning such a military siege against a helpless civilian population is to turn the global rule of law on its head. And this is a community that has already been so dispossessed. As Edward Said once said, few national groups have been stripped of their humanity in the eyes of the world more blatantly than ordinary Palestinian men and women.

The attack on the humanitarian flotilla can neither be sanctioned nor rationalised. Apart from violating international maritime law, it was an act of ruthless aggression against an innocent party. No sovereign government can allow such a transgression to take place with impunity.

When two Israeli soldiers were captured by Hezbollah, Israel invaded Lebanon. Nine Turkish citizens have been brutally killed in international waters, and no one should expect Turkey to sleep over the death of its citizens. One of those killed was also an American citizen, the 19-year-old Furkan Dogan, about whom the Obama administration has kept silent. Turkey is therefore right in unequivocally rejecting the UN report and all attempts to justify the military siege of Gaza as legal.

Netanyahu's announcement that Israel will not apologise to Turkey demonstrates his dereliction of responsibilities and a particular callousness towards a nation that used to be a military ally. He is completely misreading the dynamic of the new Middle East, in which justice, not oppression and authoritarianism, will shape history.

More significantly, it has missed a golden opportunity to further the prospects of peace through an enhanced collaboration with democratic Turkey under Prime Minister Erdogan. There is no better time than now, particularly in the wake of the Arab Spring, for all parties to move towards a more enduring peace in the Middle East driven by universal ideals for freedom, democracy and justice.

Anwar Ibrahim is currently opposition leader of Malaysia and was formerly the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

[Video] Tiga Rakyat Malaysia Terbunuh Dalam Letupan Bom Di Sungai Golok

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 10:10 AM PDT

Ketua Polis Sungai Golok Kol Chakapon Phancon berkata, "situasi sangat kritikal.

Najib Akui Kena Kencing Dengan Pemimpin UMNO Selangor

Najib Tegur Sikap Beri 'Laporan Tipu' Dalam BN

"Jangan buat program syok sendiri sahaja.

"Jangan hantar laporan, 300 orang berhimpun, berjaya.

"Saya dengar banyak ribu nak masuk balik. Kalau betul, we are on the upward swing," katanya lagi.

Tambahnya, pemimpin akar umbi perlu memberi bacaan politik yang tepat ke atas kawasan masing-masing.

"Jangan tipu pemimpin di atas. Kalau (kawasan) hitam, jangan kata putih. Mesti beritahu betul-betul.

"Bukan nak sedapkan kita saja. Kita rasa kita cukup kuat.

"Kalau nak tubuh kerajaan, kita hendak semua ahli kita sokong BN.

-mk

[Video] Pesawat Terhempas Di Atas Penonton, 3 Mati, Berpuluh Parah

- AP

Detachment from in permanent worldly natural phenomena:

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 05:52 AM PDT

Detachment from in permanent worldly natural phenomena

  1. Youthful beauty would at last end up with ageing.
  2. Wealth would at last end with broke and poverty.
  3. Friendship would deteriorate into separation and loneliness.
  4. Life would end up in death.
  5. Progress and towering would end up in relegation.
  6. Love and affectionate would end up in loneliness and grief.
  7. Popularity, respects and praises would end up in condemnations and blames.
  8. Happiness and pleasure would end up at last in despair and dilemma.

Knowing and accepting the above Eight Worldly Natural phenomena of existence is not a pessimistic view but encourages us to try our best while expecting the worst. But it discourages us for perseverance to try again and again in the period of failures and give us strength to try to let go by stopping our desires to cling to worldly attachments and preparing us for the hereafter by some sort of teaching to spiritual meditation for the detachment from the worldly impermanent things.

The above is the translation of from သံေဝဂ တရား ရွစ္ပါး from Buddhist teachings below:

Remember how the Malacca Sultanate was brought down?

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 04:20 AM PDT

The Malaysian Insider reported that a Bangladesh Prime Minister's Office unit website has claimed that its citizens working in Malaysia have been asked to vote for the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government, prompting PKR vice-president Fuziah Salleh to call for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the contentious issue. That article has since been removed from the original site but can be read here.

Till now, there has been no official response from both sides as to the authenticity of the claims in that site. DSAI reportedly said here that he is asking his friends to verify the truth of that allegation. If that allegation is true, history may soon repeat itself if we are not careful to pay heed to all the signs of danger.

In the 16th century, the Malacca sultanate was brought down by merchants from India who were actually Trojan horses for the Portuguese who colonized Goa for 450 years.. The Sultan was stabbed in the back then by the Indian merchants who sold out the Sultan to the Portuguese.

According to this site:

Sultan Mansur took advantage of the breathing room he had won and gradually, through diplomacy, established good relations between the Thais and Melaka.

Would that all Melaka's rivals could have been won over by bluff followed by an olive branch! Unfortunately, a greater threat was to come from the West.

In September, 1509 European contact with the Malay Peninsula was established when a Portuguese squadron sailed into Melaka. They were considered oddities at first: The Malays called them Bengali putih, meaning "white Bengalis."

Melaka's Indian merchants are said to have pressured the sultan into attacking the Portuguese both because the merchants feared trade rivals and because word had reached them that the Portuguese were cruel to Muslims. The small squadron was duly driven off, leaving behind 20 Portuguese prisoners. (Curiously, one of the men who escaped was Ferdinand Magellan, whose fleet was later to become the first to circumnavigate the world.) Read more here.

Wikipedia says that "the Portuguese was helped by Guy Arojo, Chinese Capitans who supplied small ships to enter the Port of Malacca and the southern Indian and Javanese group who were in dispute with the Sultanate of Malacca."

Now, if that allegation is indeed true, we may have a situation where the status quo are depending on foreigners to keep them in power and once again, they WILL BE SOLD OUT - just like in the past!

In their greed for power, they have not learnt from history! If this were to happen,  the 'imported voters' will eventually become so significant they can grab the powers that be by the balls and demand all sorts of things and they will have no choice but to say yes.

Even if this is not true, let us not forget other incidents that happened in the last thirty years.

Southern Thais have been known to have fled to Kelantan as reported HERE and here although denials have been issued here refuting a Thai politician's claim that more than 200,000 southern Thai Muslims have fled the violence in the region and have taken refuge in Kelantan. Whatever the case, in the last 20 years, there have been concerns as to how even in Kelantan, foreigners could tip the scale in the ballot box.

For more information, please read Imposition of NOC-type of rule in Kelantan a subversion of the democratic basis of the Malaysian Constitution and DAP calls for general elections in Kelantan to return the mandate to the People of Kelantan and also A Vote For Continuity:The 1978 General Elections in Malaysia by Diane K. Mauzy.

Across the South China Sea, it is well known that Sabah has experienced an "extraordinary" population growth during the last decades. This site states that "illegal immigrants are said to have been issued Malaysian Identity Cards based on false statutory declarations. The so-called "Project Mahathir" changed Sabah's ethnic make-up as well as the participation in elections. Politicians are said to have made use of "Phantom voters" in order to decide Sabah elections. Finally, with the help of a petition Sabah-based NGO's demand an investigation into the case: Those who are responsible for the massive influx of illegal immigrants may soon be charged." CLICK HERE to read this excellent write up (a must -read!!!)

Free Malaysia Today also carries an excellent article here where the writer said that recent figures seem to show that the population of illegal immigrants in Sabah has not only increased, but no action has been taken to stem the tide. Political activist Dr Chong Eng Leong warned that Malaysia may one day lose Sabah. The report said:

"Already the 2010 Census told us that of the total Sabah and Labuan population of 3.309 million there are 2.654 "Malaysians" of which 1.617 million (68%) are genuine Malaysians and 737,000 Project IC citizens (32%)."

He said this was shaping up to be not just a Sabah dilemma but also a Malaysian dilemma.

"The question is, does KL want to protect Sabah's sovereignty within Malaysia or not?" he asked.

The article about the Bangladeshis which fizzled into thin air is actually talking about an ongoing scenario that goes back more than thirty years - public knowledge but one denied by the powers that be.

So why are the authorities silent about this report? How should we interpret their silence?

A government must NEVER depend on any one group to deliver the votes that they need to form the government.  In America it is the Unions. In New York -  the Jews and Italians. In Sabah, it would be the illegal Filipinos.

Centuries ago, the British used a divide and rule policy to control the people in the peninsula. Once they united such in pre-independence days, their days were numbered.

And now, we have the same scenario. Our nation has never been so divided even if we may give ourselves  a false feel good feeling with sloganeering of 1Malaysia and what other crap. The Malays are split. So are the Chinese. The Indians are also split. Then we see how within DAP/PAS/PKR - each may have differing factions. MCLM supporters are also split. Fine. That is normal. How we deal with the divisions will be the one important factor that will unite us to fight the common enemy. So, why are we fighting amongst ourselves? Who IS the enemy?

Imagine this - if indeed BN-Umno are also split and if indeed the allegations/claims/statements about the Bangladeshis/Filipinos/Thais or other illegal immigrants are true, what will happen if they later become ONE BIG GROUP?

HAH! Matilah BN if that were to happen!

It is common knowledge that Bangladeshi illegals/workers in Malaysia chase Indonesian women. If they do marry them to stay on in Malaysia, their numbers would put a strain on our nation's resources such as on our medical and education facilities. They would tip the scale and the national pie would be smaller for the original bumiputeras! By then, there would be no need to import voters.  (I have also written about reverse takeover here.)

Remember - such 'imported' voters do not share the same type of patriotism, loyalty or values as genuine true blue Malaysians. They are economic refugees or immigrants. Their loyalty is to money. That is what they are here for. And that is dangerous!

If money is their 'God', they are akin to mercenaries. Imagine what mercenaries have been doing in other countries and we can have an idea of what MIGHT be ahead IF indeed those allegations are true.

Indeed, IF the allegation as reported in The Malaysian Insider is true, and that there are those who could be depending on them to stay in power, remember -  mercenaries can change sides for more money!!!

It is imperative that the authorities concerned in both countries respond officially to the reports and even explain the delay in their responses!!

Wikipedia says that "although their presence in Malaysia is against the law, the Malaysian government has not made a serious effort to deport illegal migrants until early 2005, when it was feared that displaced Indonesians affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami would swamp the country. On June 15, 2009 the US State Department included Malaysia as one of the worst offenders of human trafficking in their blacklist of governments it believes are not doing enough to stop it in their "Trafficking in Persons" report." Read more here.

And so, will history repeat itself? Let's hope NOT!!

Please vote wisely if you want to see changes in our country. The country's destiny is in the ballot box. Remember - CHANGE IS IMPERATIVE and NOT an option any more. We HAVE to make it happen!

Kantoi: Pakaian Anwar Dalam Video Seks II Tak Sama Dengan Video Seks I

Lebanon: Sabra and Chatila Massacre Remembered 29 Years On

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 01:50 AM PDT

September 16, 2011, marked the 29th anniversary of the most grueling moment in the six-decade long Arab-Israeli conflict - the massacre at Sabra and Chatila.

On this day in 1982, Israeli-backed Lebanese Phalangist (Arabic: al-Kataeb) militiamen entered the Sabra and Chatila Palestinian refugee camps in West Beirut, and slaughtered at will. Age or gender were never a consideration, as the elderly, women, children and even toddlers became easy prey.

The death toll has never been verified, ranging from 800 to 3,500, which is testimony to the destruction wrought by the Phalangists that many bodies were never uncovered.

The massacre occurred under the watch of the Israeli Defense Force, who at the time had gained control of West Beirut, guarded the entrances to the camps, and lit flares at night to provide visibility to their Lebanese allies.

An Israeli investigation, the Kahan Commission, found then Israeli Defense Minister Ariel Sharon personally responsible, and recommended his resignation from the Israeli Government.

The blogosphere was swarming with tributes to the victims of the massacre.

DesertPeace posted a video tribute [WARNING: graphic content]:

Political blog, Pulse, recounted the gruesome tragedy:

At six on Thursday evening. In the first penetration, three hundred and twenty men were brought on thirty trucks. Four gangs invading from four approaches. These were the most blood-addicted, rape-happy, battle-addled of militiamen, men long ago surfeited on outrage, men who required ever more extreme atrocities to stir their glutted senses. Ever wilder, ever sharper.

Israel lit the sky for them. White phosphorus flares trailing and dancing. Fire above like a terrible sun in the ceiling, a sun switched on in anger, while the children are sleeping…

Carelessly, they shot small children too, and their annoying mothers. Plus things that shrieked and things that ran. House to house, to the inner room, to the furthest wall. Hot work. Soon they shot with greater care, enjoying the sport, slashing and chopping and stabbing too. They swigged whisky and araq, snorted cocaine from flesh and knife blades.Throughout Thursday night bulldozers levelled the buildings closest to the camp entrance. A machine was sent in to dig trenches. Wailing and shooting whirled around the streets. People shut themselves in, waiting. They whispered amongst themselves, guessing the direction of the slaughter, or making excuses for the noise. Some still didn't know the extent of it, or didn't believe. Tomorrow would make believers of them.

They huddled in the darkest dark. Outside the night sun shone; inside not even a candle. Dark as dark as ignorance. The dawn brought smoke and a smell of blood.

On Friday the massacre intensified. Reached its fiercest height in the area surrounding the Gaza Hospital. Finally waned to a dribbling halt around 8am on Saturday morning. A long debauch. More than 36 hours of it.

Christof Lehmann offers his tribute at the Sabbah Report:

Twenty nine years have past, my goodness. I'll never forget you wonderful people. Neither will I forget the extremes of inhumanity and human compassion, the ugliness and beauty, the laughter and grins while murdering with a disregard for humanity and life impossible to comprehend, and the tears and cries of deepest despair and suffering no human being, not even an animal should experience. The days of terror I had to share with you were also the greatest lesson on human greatness, and the deepest beauty of the collective Palestinian Spirit, I ever had to endure.

Confused ? So am I.

Even after 29 years I still can't comprehend the full impact the experience has had on me, nor on you. At least I had the privilege to leave after it was possible to get out of the ruins of Sabra and Shatila. You could not. It makes me sad, really. So sad that I never returned to face the demons in my memory and my bad conscience over leaving you behind. There is so much I don't know because I left you behind, beaten, bloody in body mind and soul. Broken glass that shines like a diamond in the sun, crying out to the world, "let us live in peace". The only thing I know with absolute certainty is this:

Neither you, nor me, nor anyone should ever experience the inhumanity of pure unleashed evil, and until my last breath I will do what I can to prevent anything like Sabra and Shatila from ever happening again.

As you see, I am utter failure.

David Samel brought attention to Israel's other crimes during its invasion of Lebanon in 1982 in a comment at Mondoweiss:

As terrible as these atrocities were, they were only icing on the cake of Israel's June 1982 invasion of Lebanon, based upon a false pretext, that took the lives of about 15,000 to 20,000 Lebanese and Palestinians. "Liberal" Israelis actually point to Sabra and Shatila to demonstrate how progressive their country is. After all, hundreds of thousands of Israelis demonstrated against the massacres, and the Kahan Commission held bigwigs Sharon and Eitan indirectly responsible. The movie "Waltz With Bashir" showed Israeli veterans sensitively coping with their memories and their guilt. But the whole summer of 1982 was filled with savagery that exceeds the more recent 2006 Lebanon and 2008-9 Gaza bombings/invasions combined. It's a crime that Begin and Sharon died (in Sharon's case, virtually) without ever having to answer for this high-water mark of mass murder and state terrorism.

Marcy Newman at Body on the Line argues that marking the anniversary is in vain while the plight of Palestinian refugees continues to be ignored:

What I find especially disturbing about all of this is how everyone remembers the anniversary of the Sabra and Chatila massacre but no one seems to remember the destruction of Nahr el Bared refugee camp. It is rather convenient that Mitchell and his Lebanese cohorts discussed Palestinian refugees, but of course did not reveal any tangible information about their right of return. For Palestinians from Nahr el Bared this right of return is now two-fold: first to their camp and then to Palestine. If only that first step could be eliminated and they could return home immediately.

This is why I am feeling like I am against anniversaries. Anniversaries, ideally, should be a time when you reflect upon the person/people/event. It should make you act in a way that honors that memory. The only real way to honor the memory of the massacre in 1982 or the destruction of Nahr el Bared in 2007 is to fight for the right of return for Palestinian refugees. But no one is talking about that, nor are they talking about reconstructing Nahr el Bared

Twitter tributes also flooded in:

@motantawi: A tragedy is a tragedy. Commemorating 9-11 doesn't outdo or erase the memory of the tragedy of Sabra and Chatila so why the comparison?

@rida_faisal: So why is it that the victims of Sabra and Chatila don't get a massive memorial ceremony? News coverage? Oh right, it's not American blood.

@HamzehLattouf: #Sabra and Chatila are ugly crimes, the uglier crime was committed by the "civilized world" for letting the murderers get away with it

@fadiseikaly: and here are my 140 characters dedicated to the victims of Sabra And Chatila in 1982. I hope in his coma, Sharon sees their faces every day.

@omerrcelik: Today is the 29th anniversary of Sabra and Chatila massacre. The day of one of the most brutal attacks in history, carried out by Israel

@IamDiijah: The world will not observe a minute of silence for the 3,500 innocent Palestinian victims of Sabra and Chatila

@KShihabi: #Sabra and Chatila massacre 16-19/9/1982… No one has paid the price yet #Palestine #FreePalestine

@hamna_: Tomorrow, Sept 16-17th 1982 marks the Sabra and Chatila massacre. But of course, no one will remember as much as 9/11 was remembered.

While the remembrance of Sabra and Chatila is widespread across social media, the Lebanese blogosphere remained largely mute on the massacre.

As with the entire Lebanese Civil War, an air of forgetful silence is embraced by many Lebanese, as evident by the blogosphere's near complete avoidance of the Sabra and Chatila anniversary.

For many Lebanese, the Civil War and its atrocities remain a dark memory that one never mentions, suppressing the wounds.

Rather, life goes on as normal, oblivious to the crimes against humanity once carried on Lebanese soil.

As such, no Lebanese perpetrator of the Sabra and Chatila massacre, or any massacre in the Lebanese Civil War, has ever been brought to justice.

Well, I happened to see a post in my Wall in Facebook yesterday that pointed to the Bangladesh website.

Here's the history to prove it.
Then, I visited the site http://www.ngoab.gov.bd/Main.php?Id=66 and read about the 'FREE' citizenship!
Of course, by now if you were to go to http://www.ngoab.gov.bd/Main.php?Id=66, there's a message that says, 'No Item to show!'

Too bad, I didn't do a print screen the first time I visited it at 10:50 PM yesterday. Didn't know that it would turn out to be a 'HOT' item but if you google for http://www.ngoab.gov.bd/Main.php?Id=66, you can still see a snap shot of the original posting with something to show!
If you download the snap shot, you will see this:

Kezaliman Kerajaan Melaka Berterusan, Mahu Rampas Tanah PASTI As-Solihin Merlimau

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 02:21 AM PDT

-SH

Perasuah Negara, Pengkhianat Moden

Posted: 17 Sep 2011 01:06 AM PDT

-FMT

Najib, credit neither BN nor PR. It is only right to remove these archaic laws

September 17, 2011
SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — No one else should take credit for the law reforms mooted by Barisan Nasional (BN) two days ago which saw the repeal of the Internal Security Act (ISA) and other restrictive laws, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
In apparent reference to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) claims that BN had lifted the idea from the opposition's Buku Jingga manifesto, the prime minister said the decision to scrap the ISA was part of his promise to amend the controversial law when he took office in 2009.
"These are not the fruits of their struggle. This was a decision made by the Barisan Nasional government because we listened to Malaysians who want this change," Najib (picture) told some 600 BN supporters at Universiti Teknologi Mara here.
He said that the law reforms would put Malaysia on the right track to becoming a more open and progressive democracy while ensuring harmony.
On Thursday night, the prime minister announced the repeal of the ISA and the three Emergency Declarations when both the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat have their next sitting.
He said new laws will be enacted to protect the peace, harmony and security of the country.
He also announced that the government will do away with annual printing and publishing permits with permits that can be cancelled if regulations are flouted.
PR has claimed credit for the bold move, which it said was the result of sustained opposition pressure.
Najib stressed today the need for a stable government and urged the mainly Indian crowd to throw their support behind the ruling coalition to ensure the country's future prosperity.
"If politics in our country is in a state of flux... and we do not have political stability, it will affect the country badly," he said, adding that any lack of stability would put off foreign investors.
He said if Malaysians could show strong support for the government, the effect on the economy will be tremendous and jobs would be guaranteed.
Najib added that BN would look after the people's welfare, and promised that the ruling coalition will continue to address the problems faced by the Indian community.
He later received some 7,000 BN membership forms from former Selangor PR members.
