‘Ini Ujian ALLAH Menguji Keimanan Kami’ - Komuniti Islam Thailand Hadapi Banjir

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 10:35 AM PDT

Soi Lek, self-declared winnable candidate anywhere

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 09:08 AM PDT

Not long ago, Soi Lek blew his own horn and said, "I consider myself a winnable candidate everywhere I go."

Why limited to only three places?
Why not Penang since Koh is willing to 'sacrifice humself for Gerakan' and may not contest in the next general election?

Who knows, Soi Lek, you may be the next Chief Minister of Penang!

Chua Jui Meng talks through the hat

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 08:30 AM PDT

When Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle (here) that the country would go bankrupt if BN wins the next general election - and in referring to the Budget 2012 which he described as 'nonsense' - he was actually talking through his own hat.

Ever since joining the Opposition team about two years ago, nothing about the Malaysian economy and the way our government manages it, pleases him. Nothing about the country is right to him, not similar to his tenure as our longest-serving Health Minister from 1995-2004.

It's okay lor. Maybe we can understand why he joined the PKR. Not that he really wanted to but because of his own fumbles in MCA. That was his own fiasco but it is nor fair at all to vent his frustration on Barisan Nasional, the party he once served with Anwar Ibrahim and others.

He is showing an extreme detest towards the nation, the government and the people who once voted for him. The way he scorns the country is so upsurge, as if Malaysia is not his and hence does not deserve a single credit.

It's true that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recently revised its growth projection for the Malaysian economy from 5.5 per cent to 5.2 per cent for this year while the forecast for next year is around 5.1 per cent (here).

However, our economy is strongly supported by domestic demand. It's growth will be led by robust investment, which will offset the slowdown in export momentum.

One thing for sure, Malaysia don't need a 'Plan B' to stimulate the economy (here) even if the global economic climate worsens. The current plan that has been outlined by the government, including the Government Transformation Programme (GTP), Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and political transformation were done in such a way that they were adjustable even in the worst case scenario.

Even in the worst case scenario when things go really bad, we already have an in-built system that can adjust itself.

Perhaps, Chua should read the sixth annual Report on Malaysia published by Oxford Business Group in partnership with the EPU, which came at an important juncture when the country was making every effort to transform itself into a high-income economy.

The Report provides unrivaled insights to investors, analysts and business community on the current state and future potential of the country's economy, and serves as a reference to future investors by combining accurate reporting with independent analysis and sharp insights.

Open up your mind, please. The government will not plan and implement anything that will jeopardise the future of the country and the rakyat. Such a virtue has been in the mind of our leaders, even before the Independence.

But his wrath reflects how pompous he is now. In other countries, the Opposition will sit down with representatives of the government in finding ways to enhance the economy and the peoples' standard of living. Unfortunately, Malaysia has never had a constructive Opposition but a team of politicians who only know how to make negative infers.

You are not an obtuse person, Chua. You are a lawyer, a professional one. So stop making bad disposition about your own country.

And do remember that you were never a DAP or PAS member. You were once the MCA deputy president! It is the same government you had served and upheld, and it is still the same one!

Hanya Zaman Najib Laporan Audit Tidak Diserahkan Kepada Ahli Parlimen

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 07:48 AM PDT

Ketua audit ditekan supaya tapis laporan?'

Gagal Halang Mat Sabu & Guan Eng, Rumah YDP PAS Segamat Disimbah Cat Merah

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 07:03 AM PDT

-HD

Yes Mr Prime Minister, Sir?

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:18 AM PDT

Assalamu'alaikum Dato' Seri Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.
I hope somebody will help pass my short informal message onto your table.

Dato' Seri, how do I start this..
Kuala Lumpur is already a very overcrowded city.
I don't need to detail the woes of its city dwellers.
The standard of living is already getting more expensive by the day.
The city is bursting to its seams!

More greens are being cleared to make way for development.
Of course the city is becoming more of a furnace.

Getting straight to the point..
Dato' Seri, what's stopping us from turning Kuantan into another very bustling city?
Simple reasons like it's a gateway to the East, our lovely beaches, acres of good land, presence of an international convention centre are among some of the plus criterias.

Most importantly,Tok Seri, you come from Pahang!

If Tun Mahathir can shape Langkawi into an overseas attraction, can you not select Kuantan and bring a huge international focus to our beautiful Pahang?

We have so much potential to be even better than Langkawi!

That's all; a lenghty one may make you yawn on this hot afternoon.

Please Tok Seri, please think carefully about it..thank you.

Can Kuantan City be on our West Malaysia map?
Or is it ridiculously impossible?

Sometimes, a zany idea may bring in a lot of unexpected benefits to many of us rakyat.
Please consider on the possibility and feasibility, Tok Seri.

Make our Kuantan the first city in the East Coast!

If you do manage to read my message, thank you for your time.
Wassalam.

P.S.
A huge camel farm somewhere in Pahang would be kinda nice..hmm.

Salam and warmest regards to Datin Seri too..
thanks again.

Coming of Age – Launched

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:11 AM PDT

On 2 October 2011, my second book, Coming of Age: A Decade of Essays 2001-2011 was launched by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This is a compilation of my essays on politics, law, economics and religion since I joined politics at the age of 19 until now.

A description of the book:

As a 19-year old student, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad emerged as a voice of Malaysia's youth during the Reformasi period. Seven years later, he became the youngest elected representative in the historical 2008 General Elections. As a writer and politician, he has been vocal in articulating his vision for a better Malaysia, covering a wide variety of topics including politics, economics, law and religion.

This collection of over 40 essays spanning a decade between 2001 to 2011 provides a unique window into not only Nik Nazmi's coming of age, but also of Malaysia's Reformasi movement as it was transformed from a protest movement to a government-in-waiting and guardians of the vision for a more inclusive Bangsa Malaysia. Despite the momentous events of the years chronicled in these pages, the author's call for justice and freedom remains a constant. This is the author's second book after Moving Forward: Malays for the 21st Century published in 2010.

Below are the videos from Datuk Seri Anwar's and my speech:

I was happy to have family, friends, comrades in the struggle and staunch supporters at the launch.

The book is on sale at RM39.90 at major bookshops in Malaysia and Singapore. My first public event to promote the book took place just before Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the Popular Bookfest at KL Convention Centre. I will be promoting the book at Readings @ Seksan this month and a host of other events.

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 04:57 AM PDT

sasar 100,000 risalah sebelum hujung November

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 04:53 AM PDT

muka depan risalah
PKR Rembau (DUN Rantau)
bergambar selepas pelancaran
Gimik pelancaran bertukar kerana ribut di lokasi asal. Belon dipecahkan dan
ada booklet dalam belon. Gimik ini melambangkan usaha pemecahan tembok maklumat.
YB Fuziah sedang berucap
hanya kira - kira 500 orang sahaja yang berjaya masuk bersesak memenuhi ruang pejabat.

Kenyataan terbuka
17 Oktober 2011

Focus On Real Targets

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 03:35 AM PDT

Those who can must get the word out to focus on real targets.

First, the situation.

One, the latest budget was to bribe the fixed deposit voting cohorts. Civil servants, teachers, militia and farmers; the amount for pensioners, due only in 2013, is paltry.

In addition, no action has been taken on Taib so as not to lose Sarawak. With Sabah in tow under Umno and its fast-tracked citizenship program for illegals, six fixed deposits are now primed for Barisan to retain its government, abetted by Umno-friendly royalty, judiciary, enforcement, mainstream media and election commission constructs. The last card is of course to cheat at the polls.

Two, where finance and education are concerned, the present government plays to only one gallery - the Malays, and with only one goal - to win the next general elections.

Money is spent minor for their targets, major for themselves - because Umno has become the official engine for whitewashing cronyism, with the result the bills including financing charges based on increasing debt servicing will be for the account of the still-dreamy young of the future.

And education is based on denialism which will result in irrelevance and loss of competitiveness. After fifty four years and billions, it is still a delivery issue. And their way of solving it is to entrench the challenges even further. Because the teachers can't, education will become less about imparting real and relevant knowledge, more about imparting grades made to look good by lowering standards, with the specter that one day overseas admitting institutions will deny entry because they will have avalanches of richer students from other countries, furthermore with better international results and stronger command of the medium of instruction - there.

Three, the demographics have changed. Once the Chinese were over thirty percent of the population; today in the twenties. The slide will continue because the birthrate has dropped since more will be too busy working harder to try and maintain livelihood while dispirited of future prospects in the face of increasing costs but crumbs in state support. How the latest budget has been distributed says it all. Ask the MD of SPSetia what he now thinks of the NEP rearing its real head, and for effects what is the size of Umno's political puissance over PNB's RM124 Billion in funds as well as Petronas and EPF monies?

Four, the US and European markets for our local products are going to be sundered on the shores of fiscal calamity. The rates at which they can service their debts will never catch up with the rates at which the interests on those debts are compounding. Ergo, even if they work flat out and unless a global trade miracle happens, they will be paying just the interests due without reducing the principal debt. In the next two years, another recession may spurt which will run contrary to the wild projections of revenue paraded in the latest budget of easy dispensations, all happening when one third of national revenues come from oil and gas, depleting commodities, with its attendant effects on the other two-thirds of direct and indirect taxes. Currently our national yolk is rm442 Billion of debts, and real productivity in terms of elastic skills, not population growth numbers, is stagnant. Meanwhile the present government continues to spin, and continues to hire expensive spinners, while living it up like there's no tomorrow. That, they are correct.

Second, the real targets. Take five, suck in, and think. The only things we can do - today, now - apart from disseminating walla's final post here - is to make absolutely sure that:

Penang and Selangor be retained by the Opposition
Perak be returned to the Opposition
Sarawak be denied Umno, and
the Opposition be helped to do their best in all the other states.

It may be said that the Opposition of today has kinks. But nothing in life is permanent. Was the GE12 tsunami expected? So there's hope that the Opposition will become better over time. For that they must have grounds to stand. At the least make sure Penang, Perak and Selangor remain theirs. If PAS wants help in the other states, to the extent they don't go dreaming about an islamic state for the country they should be helped.

Meanwhile, prepare your own parachutes for the family. Make sure the young ones get the best world education you can afford. Practise tax avoidance (legal), use the power of less to get by, don't spend on frivolities, talk less do more, be super-efficient with time and resources, make the money do the work but keep wise counsel all the time...and a simple thing - always always be alert. Share with one another best tips and resources. Support one another as much as can be done. Practise and teach integrity always for it is the only calling card that will be accepted anywhere in this complicated and sly world. Teach the young the value of things and the value of values; show them but nicely what sacrifices have been made for them, and how dangerous situations can be; what is easy street today can flip over in an instant. Those who have been taught all this don't seem to want to learn at all. Don't let any mistake happen twice.

And if good financial luck comes, park it where the new residence will be for them. Those places with more open-minded and smarter societies, cleaner and safer environments, more progressive wisdom about life, and more opportunities to be the best.

I should know what i am talking here. Having started posting blog comments since 2003, i have never been wrong once in all that i've written. In the field of complete knowledge, there were eighteen worldwide. Fourteen have passed on. I am number 4.

This post was a comment written by Walla in response to my post on The "I" Factor. My grateful thanks to Walla for the insightful sharing and wake-up call for all of us. Please leave a comment to share your thoughts. Thanks! Have a lovely evening!

– BERNAMA

MCMC makan angin, cari Aziz Bari & Malaysiakini!

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 02:00 AM PDT

Constitutional law professor Abdul Aziz Bari has been questioned by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission, following his statements on a decree by the Selangor sultan.

NONEAbdul Aziz had said in an email at 9.30am today that maybe this was  after pressure from Awang Selamat in Mingguan Malaysia and the meeting with two MCMC officers lasted about two hours today, with the officers following up on a report lodged against him last Friday.

Abdul Aziz said besides questions on his personal information and career, they asked about the accuracy of Malaysiakini's report and added the officers, Syukri Jamaluddin and Mazlan Othman, also asked about his areas of research, his mobile phone and ICT skills.

The commission has since contacted Malaysiakini and is due to visit its office this afternoon on the same matter.

Yesterday, the Sunday edition of Utusan Malaysia, through its 'Awang Selamat' column had taken potshots at the MCMC for allegedly being soft on Abdul Aziz and Malaysiakini, which had published the academic's views - the former for saying that the Selangor sultan's decree on the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department search of the Damansara Utama Methodist Church in August was "uncommon and inconsistent" and the latter for appearing to have "immunity" despite setting a "trap" by publishing news meant to 'advocate the setting up of a republic' in Malaysia.

TuneIn radio app

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 01:27 AM PDT

It has been a very long while since I ever thought about buying one of those Internet radios. The idea appealed to me a lot. As far as I can remember, I had been playing around with short-wave radios, dialing in to all sorts of radio transmissions from across the world. Must have been since my primary school days.

The very first transister radio in my possession - actually, bought by my father - was this Hitachi. My first window to the world. Practically slept with it. With the lever on the front, I could switch from medium wave to short wave. It's long been spoilt and thrown away but I saw the exact same model in a museum in Sitiawan last year, still with its original leather case. So you can imagine my excitement. Wow, wow, wow.

This was my favourite: the Sony ICF-7600D which I bought in Singapore. The price then was a cheap SGD100 and at that time in the mid-80s, the Malaysian Ringgit was still at near parity with the Singapore Dollar. It's still in good working condition but where I'm living, I shall need a good external antenna to pull in any decent signal. Thus, the Internet radio would be a logical progression for me. It would been able to pick up radio streams from the Internet.

How long has it been? I think it must have been at least two years. There were a few models that I was drooling after, in particular the Philips Streamium MCi298 and the Logitech Squeezebox Boom (and later, the Touch).

The Streamium was supposed to be launched in Malaysia but despite all the hype on their webpage, the model was never released locally at all. I tried to get in touch with the Philips office here but always hit a blank. And there was nobody replying to their customer service emails. Well, nobody answered my emails anyway.

Disgusted with the Philips lack of information, my attention turned to the Boom. I happened to be in Singapore and friends took me to Sim Lim Square. If ever there's a place where you can find computer peripherals, this must be it! But despite walking all the floors, I was disappointed. None of the outlets carried the Boom but there was one shop carrying the Touch which they claimed was a never model than the Boom.

I was rather hesitant because what I was looking for was a portable Internet radio that I could carry around the house. The Streamium or the Boom would have been ideal. The Touch would require it to be hooked up to a hifi system or at the very least, a pair of small portable speakers. I wasn't particularly interested in keeping a radio that could not be moved anyway easily, although the idea of connecting it to my hifi system was very appealing.

So I didn't buy the Touch as well. A second visit to Singapore followed months later. By then, my resolve was already weakening. Surely, this time I will buy a unit. But as fate would have it, I didn't. Again, I hesitated. I'm due to make a visit there again sometime next year. Surely, I will pick it up then? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Then yesterday, a Singaporean friend asked me to download the TuneIn radio app for my new ipad. It's really good, he said, lots of good channels. Stephen knows me well enough; he knows what I want and he knew I was still searching for a good Internet radio.

True enough, TuneIn is a very interesting app for the ipad. It pulls in streaming signals from all over world so I'm able to listen to transmissions from far-flung places like the States or Britain or Australia or wherever. I'm only limited by the speed of the Internet line.

And last night, I wondered how the sound would be like if I were to connect the ipad to my hifi system. Well, it sounded alright. The music resonated out through my speakers with clarity and good separation. No fuzziness or distortion at all. I suppose it would be the same if I were to hook up the Touch to the hifi system as well but now, I'll never know.

I'm glad that I did not buy the Touch earlier. To me, the ipad performs just all well. It serves my purpose.

EATING HUMBLE PIE

Quote "Please humble yourselves. There is no guarantee we can rule forever. We are facing a whole new political landscape today and are assessed and judged by the people each day" Unquote.

The above was a quotation from PM Najib during Sunday's Negeri Sembilan BN Convention.

At long last, PM Najib is beginning to say something sensible about the current state of the ruling party, and his concern that the up-coming GE would be a difficult one. I am rather surprise with this sudden change in PM Najib's assessment on the fate of BN and likely outcome of the next GE. This is in deep contrast with what was thought off by his Deputy Muhyiddin Yasin when he said the nation would go bankrupt if the opposition were to rule. I remembered too that Senator Idris Jala by his estimation did say that the country would go bankrupt by 2019, and all hell broke loose soon after. It wasn't the opposition that said that; it was a 'solicited member' of the ruling government.

PM Najib no longer talks about 'crushing dead bodies' to defend Putrajaya or to do what is necessary to win back the 'jewel of the nation' i.e. Selangor. Indeed, PM Najib had humbled himself by saying what is in his heart, and not to say anything that he hears from his 'pak pencacai' that clings to him like leeches.

You see, one can easily identify a 'pak pencacai' merely by looking at the way they dress, talk and move around. You so often see them loitering around KLIA awaiting the return of the PM or DPM from an overseas visit. They would rush in at the sight of the PM or DPM and quickly kiss their hands. I have seen lots of them while I was in service and let me tell you this, that I have never in my life kiss anyone's hand except that of my parents, my closest uncles and aunties; not even the hands of Royalties. As a soldier, I accord them (Royalties) the smartest salute and that has been the training.

Honestly, I am pleased that PM Najib has now acknowledged that there are some of his people that always say rosy things concerning the state of the party, which in actual fact is the contrary. If indeed PM Najib has identified them, my brotherly advice is to ignore them, and be forthright by saying to them that their advice is no longer needed. My advice may sound hard, but as a leader one cannot be taken for a ride all the time when untruth is being advised to him.

Now to get at what was said by DPM Muhyiddin that the country would go bankrupt if ruled by the opposition, just let me asked this – are any of the states ruled by the opposition bankrupt? On the contrary the four opposition held states have done reasonably well; much better than before. Kelantan despite being 'victimized' is still very much alive; notably free of the scourge of corruption. Selangor and Penang have performed outstandingly with surplus state revenue. Please do not deny this Muhyiddin, and I guess this is the very reason why the ruling government is so determine to get back Selangor and Penang, where only a miracle can change the ruling status of the two states.

I do not know much about Kedah that has always been a poor state even during the previous rule. But from what I read, the PAS government has alleged that problems saddled by the state today are merely the 'left-overs' from the previous government. I read too that the state opposition members are beginning to question the PAS government of its failures, oblivious to the fact that the problems were of their doing when they (BN/UMNO) had been ruling the state for 54 years.

Much that I would like to predict the outcome of the up-coming GE now; I thought I would rather wait to see how each state performs and the conduct of its leaders. I do not believe that the election would be held anytime before the close of this year; certainly not before the effects of the 2012 Budget is felt by the rakyat.
