Between Fidlot and Pakatan Rakyat's 'jenglots'

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 09:20 AM PST

It's now clear (at least) that there was no element of fraudulent or any sign of failure at the government's National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) as claimed by the Opposition. While IGP Ismail Omar gave his assurance that the police was still investigating the allegation, all parties were advised to stop making any speculation.

Pity Shahrizat for being the subject of political attack by the Pakatan Rakyat. Although she denied any hanky-panky in the deal, nobody seemed to believe her, including some BN backbenchers who found some 'personal advantage' in it.

Only a few stood for Shahrizat, especially Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin who said the allegations against the government and Shahrizat were 'a wild political attack' and 'weak in terms of facts'.

First, their accusation that NFC was given 5,000 acres (2,023 ha) of land in Gemas, Negri Sembilan, for free is false. NFC has never been given that much land. As an integrator of Pusat Fidlot Negara (PFN), KJ said it was offered 1,500 acres on lease by the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI), and this was confirmed by the Menteri Besar himself.

This means the land is not just 70 per cent smaller as claimed but it is also on lease.

So, the claims that raw beef from the farm was sold to major restaurants in Singapora, namely Meatworks, Senor Santos and Brawn were also unfounded because any imports of raw beef to Singapore is impossible because the Republic prohibits the import of raw beef from Peninsular Malaysia due to fear of foot and mouth disease.

And again, the Opposition 'jenglots' who made the allegations did not do any homework to support their claim.

The NFC project also did not fail to reach its target under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), which is 60,000 cattle a year although it only started in late 2008, a two-year delay after the commencement of the 9MP.

In fact, it was stated on page 138 of the Auditor-General's 2010 Report that the target of producing 8,000 cows in 2010 was achieved.

And the government did not hide anything pertaining to the RM250 million soft loan for NFC. Actually, not all of the amount paid for NFC's usage but the Opposition made the allegation based on NFC's financial report for Dec 31, 2009 which was already outdated.

Looks like the Opposition is losing much ammo in this 'campaign against the government'. Their jenglots (or their living dead) are all over to continue belittling the government and undermining all development policies.

I think this 'jenglots' should go speak to the 'lembu' at Fidlot for the whole truth!

More A Grant Than A Loan

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 07:53 AM PST

I have been very busy for the past few days with a visitor from Singapore who flew in to see our mutual friend who is in hospital as a result of a recent diagnosis of Stage 4B cancer of the pancreas/bile duct. So sorry I have not been able to write. I just came back from a forum on GE13 - Are You Ready? which featured Assoc Prof. Dr. Azmi Sharom and a few other speakers. I will be writing about it either later or tomorrow. In the mean time, do read the following article by Adila Razak from Malaysiakini here.

'NFC's statement show it's more a grant than a loan' by Adila Razak

The explanation given by the controversial company National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) over a government loan running to hundreds of millions supports PKR's argument that the RM250 million was more a grant than a loan.

According to PKR chief of strategy Rafizi Ramli (right), this is because NFC executive chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail had revealed that there is no repayment schedule stipulated for the loan.

"(PKR secretary-general) Saifuddin Nasution exposed that there is no repayment schedule nor interest paid for the loan. This was confirmed by NFC in a Berita Harian report today.

"So while it is called a loan, the RM250 million is more a grant, as a loan would include collateral, interest and a repayment schedule... we don't know how we can recover the RM250 million," he said.

In its report on a NFC press conference yesterday, Berita Harian said that Mohammad Salleh admitted that the company did not contravene any agreement "as the terms of the agreement did not stipulate the repayment schedule".

The daily reported that the payment needs to be made after "a certain period" and that the stipulated period has yet to expire.

'Not one condo, but two'

Rafizi, who is has experience as a chartered accountant and auditor, said that Mohamad Salleh's response yesterday also did not refute any of the allegations made by the PKR.

Instead, he said the company revealed more information which strengthens PKR's argument of misappropriation of funds.

"(NFC) confirmed that it did not spend RM9.8 million on a condominium purchase but RM13.8 million on two... each costing RM6.9 million.

"I am surprised by the audacity of NFC not only to deny misappropriation but to proudly say that they not only have one but two condominiums," he said.

He added that the company also did not refute PKR's claim that NFC had paid for Shahrizat's personal expenses.

Rafizi added that he has also sent a letter to Umno Youth chief and Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin, who has fervently backed NFC, to invite him to debate the matter on Dec 12.

"The venue and the style of debate can be agreed upon later," he said of the letter sent today.

Dailies Berita Harian and New Straits Times had carried a report which details nine responses for nine allegations made by PKR.

"We will be calling another press conference on Monday to answer this. Give us two days to study their response," Rafizi said.

He also expressed dismay that NFC had taken so long to respond to weeks of exposes, and only after being urged to do so by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Wise Asri sniped at silly Ali over solar bibles. Yeah!

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 07:54 AM PST

By G. Manimaran
November 18, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — Islamic scholar Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin sniped at Selangor PAS leader Datuk Dr Hasan Ali today for "insulting Muslims" by claiming they would be influenced by Christians using high-tech devices to proselytise to them.
"It is an insult to Muslims and the Islamic faith. As if Muslims who listen to Bible readings would eventually be swayed.
"This is as if the Bible's influence surpasses that of the al-Quran," Asri (picture) said in a statement to The Malaysian Insider.
The former Perlis mufti added Hasan's remarks were unsuitable as they had come from a person living in the age of technology.
"These days all readings, whether the al-Quran or the Bible, can be sourced from the Internet.
"All sorts of gadgets, whether the computer or others, can be used to download these readings," he pointed out.
Asri said by publicising the matter, Hasan was indirectly promoting the reading of the Bible to those of other faiths.
"But even then, it is not an offence. The world is not a closed one. Those who hear and evaluate for themselves can find the truth they seek.
"The role of religion in this era is not as a blockade but to help explain and educate in a mature manner," he said.
Hasan, the Selangor executive councillor in charge of religion, said yesterday that evangelical Christians were using high-tech devices such as solar-powered talking bibles to proselytise to Malay Muslims in the state.
He said the state's religious authority (Jais) had discovered that Christian missionaries were now spreading their gospel through technologically-advanced means apart from setting up welfare groups providing cash and other financial aid to single mothers and the destitute.
He added that Jais's research showed Christian evangelists were spreading their faith to young Muslim students in free tuition classes and counselling sessions, besides distributing Christian pamphlets in public places, homes, universities and places that were ostensibly called "community centres".
According to a website called Book of Joe, the palm-sized radio-like device contains all the books in the New and Old Testaments and is fitted with batteries that will run for almost 10 hours before needing to be recharged, whether by the sun, a light bulb or a nine-volt AC adapter. It costs only US$99.95 (RM310).
This latest disclosure, after the controversial August 3 raid by Selangor Islamic authorities on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) in Petaling Jaya, could trigger another Christian-Muslim conflict.
Christian leaders have consistently denied claims that they are attempting to convert Muslims, but relations between the two creeds with roots in the Middle East continue to smoulder in multi-religious, multi-cultural Malaysia where the religion of the federation is Islam as stated in the Federal Constitution.

Memang Wajar Dr.Asri Libas Hassan Ali

Dakwaan murtad kerana Injil tenaga solar hina Islam'

Mereka termasuk Dr Asri sendiri.

Mana Al-Quran digital kamu? Mana 'Solar Powered Handheld Talking Quran' kamu? Atau paling sengkek, mana portal dan lamanweb Q&A mengenai Islam kamu?

Illek!

Another child…

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 05:53 AM PST

When our sole volunteer in Taiping alerted me about a girl whose parents died of HIV related illnesses, and who herself had been suffering from various ailments, the volunteer wasn't sure when I asked if the girl was HIV+ or if she had ever been tested for HIV. The volunteer herself got the news from somebody else. I told her to try get more details, and if possible, to visit the girl.

So she went to visit and amongst the details she got was that the girl had indeed been tested HIV+ and was already regularly going for treatment at the paed's clinic. Since it was a paed's case, it was never referred to us as cases in Taiping referred to us were only from the adults clinic. Was told that the girl's HIV status was known to all and sundry in the kampong as her case was highlighted in a tabloid paper. Guess the reporter was trying to highlight the girl's sad story and to add more impact to the story, even the girl's HIV status was disclosed.

What bothered me most was the fact that the girl was no longer schooling. My colleague wasn't able to give me a clear answer as to why the girl stopped going to school… was it because her HIV status had been known to all… or was it because of her illness? How can we help the girl?

I needed to know more. So I told my colleague to arrange for another visit – this time I myself wanted to join the visit.

Since it was my colleague's off day from work today, we decided to pay the girl a visit. There was another couple sitting outside chatting with the girl's grandma when we got there, but since the girl's status was known to all, I wasn't too worried about confidentiality. I found out that the couple were relatives anyway, and the grandma even invited us to sit together with the couple. The girl, Nasya, 13, did come out to salam with us. At one glance she looked okay.

I started chatting with the grandma and was told that since the girl seemed to be doing a whole lot better now, they were thinking of sending her back to school beginning next year. Apparently the girl went to school only up to standard 6, sat for her UPSR but after that she had to be hospitalised for whatever ailments and they never even went to get her UPSR results from school. Until now, they don't know her results.

According to the grandma, Nasya stopped going to school when she was hospitalised and even after she was discharged, she had difficulty walking. She had to go to the hospital quite regularly and at one time even had to be referred to Ipoh GH when her condition worsened. I couldn't really tell what her ailments were based on my conversation with the grandma, but it probably was somewhat related to some kind of brain infection, which I have seen quite often amongst the HIV cases referred.

The doctor had to change her to a new line of ARV which seemed to work better for her. She seemed a lot better now although not fully recovered. Although at one glance she looked okay, when we observed her walk, she wasn't really back to normal. And according to the grandma, Nasya tends to forget certain things. And when we asked her to write, she was slow. even when writing her own name. When we asked her to write her address as well, she forgot. And she even had problems reading.

I don't think it would be a good idea sending her to a normal school. She won't be able to cope.  And she'd probably end up not learning anything. We figured it would probably be better if she goes to Sekolah Pendidikan Khas. The grandma did agree with me but said that since Nasya's aunt was the one who had been arranging this and that for Nasya, she'd have to discuss the matter with the aunt first. I told the grandma that if they needed help in the registration etc, we are willing to help out.

I understand Nasya will have to be registered as an OKU before she can be accepted into such schools. Maybe we'd also need to discuss the matter with the doctor handling her case before taking the next step.

Democracy or Theorocracy (Sharia) - Debate For and Against

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 06:46 AM PST

An 88 minute debate between Robert Spencer, Anjem Chaudary and Abu Bara. The "Inquisition" of very long ago, has changed quite a bit, nowadays they are called "Blasphemy Trials". Ring a bell?

This is non-negotiable. The difference between "Man made laws" protecting our natural human rights and freedoms, and "theocratic law of God" defining what those human rights and freedoms are allowed or not allowed to be, is that under our man made laws the human being is sanctified as an individual to be honored and protected equally; but under Allah's laws that same human being is to be constrained or forced to be 'sanctified' as an imperfect being, unequally. End result is that our democratic "sanctity" of the individual trumps religious constraints on individuals; which is why we have a "separation of religion and state" in the civilized world. Where one honors the individual and respects their (God given) conscience in a democratic rule of law, the other demands that individuals obey (in submission) religious interpretations of what conscience is supposed to be. One is called Freedom, the other Tyranny.

Our "human sanctity" is not negotiable by mullahs, priests, prophets, politicians, universalists, shamans, moralists, preachers, internationalists, or communists and fascists. That Sanctity is our God given right. That is what democratic, constitutional rule of law (so-called Man-made laws) seeks to protect above all else, that we are free human beings, free to pursue our right to happiness with our conscience, reciprocally for all equally, without harming or trespassing on that right for others. That is why Freedom is far far far superior to Theocracy. Jihad Watch.

Why Does America Defend the Weak and Small? - Our Small Friends By Victor Hanson Davis

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 05:55 AM PST

Recently, an open mike caught French president Nicolas Sarkozy and American president Barack Obama jointly trashing Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Sarkozy scoffed, "I cannot stand him. He's a liar."Obama trumped that with, "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day."

Two days later, in one of the most bizarre op-eds published by the New York Times in recent memory, Paul Kane suggested that the United States could literally sell out its support for democratic Taiwan for about $1 trillion. He argued that the Chinese might be so thankful to us for letting them get their hands on the island that they might forgive much of what we owe them.

So why does the United States take risks in guaranteeing the security of countries such as Israel and Taiwan? Surely the smart money — and most of the world — bets on their richer enemies. The Arab Middle East has oil, hundreds of millions of people, and lots of dangerous radical-Islamic terrorists. China is more than one billion strong, with the fastest-growing economy in the world.

But President Obama should remember that America does not think solely in terms of national advantage. In fact, only the United States seems to have an affinity for protecting tiny, vulnerable nations. In two wars, and more than twelve years of no-fly zones in Iraq, America saved the Kurds from a genocidal Saddam Hussein.Greece today has few friends. Its northern-European creditors are furious with its profligacy and duplicity. Nearby, an ascendant Turkey is flexing its muscles over occupied Cyprus and new finds of gas and oil in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean. In short, a bankrupt Greece of only 11 million people, residing in one of history's most dangerous neighborhoods, has few strong friends other than the United States. The same is true of Christian Armenia, which likewise is relatively small and near to historical enemies in Turkey and Russia.

All of these peoples — Israelis, anti-Communist Chinese, Kurds, Greeks, and Armenians — have a few things in common. They have relatively small — and often shrinking — populations, aggressive neighbors, few strong allies, many expatriates and refugees in the United States, and tragic histories of persecution and genocide. Half the world's Jews were lost to the Holocaust. Had Mao Tse-tung — the most prolific mass murderer in history — gotten his way, the entire anti-Communist Chinese population who fled in terror to Taiwan would have been wiped out. In the early 1920s, nearly a million Greeks perished in Asia Minor — ethnically cleansed by a Turkey that had at one time conquered and occupied Greece for more than 350 years. A million Armenians perished in the breakup of the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The stateless Kurds have often been persecuted by Arabs, Iranians, and Turks.

Seleweng Tanah : ADUN BN Minta Satim Bertanggungjawab

Isu penyelewengan berhubung penjualan tanah kerajaan di Science Park 2 membabit Ketua Pembangkang Dun Selangor, Datuk Satin Diman turut mendapat kecaman dari pemimpin Barisan nasional.

Adun Sungai Burung dari Barisan Nasional(BN), Shamsudin Lias mengesa Ketua Pembangkang Selangor, Datuk Satim Diman tampil kehadapan bagi membuktikan dirinya tidak bersalah atas dakwaan penyelewengan tanah ketika era pemerintahan BN dahulu.

"Sekiranya terbukti beliau (Satim) lakukannya, beliau perlu bertanggungjawab, prinsip kita jelas, saya sendiri jelas sekiranya kita langgar undang-undang, kita perlu bertanggungjawab.

-tvsnews

Sebelum persidangan DUN Selangor bermula, Wak Satim Diman komain hebat buat kenyataan kononnya mahu "belasah" kerajaan PR Selangor sebab tak tunai janji pilihanraya katanya.

Wak ni dah lama tak baca Al-Quran ni.

[Fatir: 43]

It’s Official: To Protect Baby’s Brain, Turn Off TV

It's Official: To Protect Baby's Brain, Turn Off TV

A decade ago, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggested that parents limit TV consumption by children under two years of age. The recommendations were based as much on common sense as science, because studies of media consumption and infant development were themselves in their infancy.
The research has finally grown up. And though it's still ongoing, it's mature enough for the AAP to release a new, science-heavy policy statement on babies watching television, videos or any other passive media form.
Their verdict: It's not good, and probably bad.
Media, whether playing in the background or designed explicitly as an infant educational tool, "have potentially negative effects and no known positive effects for children younger than 2 years," concluded the AAP's report, released Oct. 18 at the Academy's annual meeting in Boston and scheduled for November publication in the journal Pediatrics. "Although infant/toddler programming might be entertaining, it should not be marketed as or presumed by parents to be educational."
Since the AAP made its original recommendations in 1999, passive entertainment screens — televisions, DVD players, computers streaming video — have become ubiquitous, and the average 12-month-old gets between one and two hours of screen time per day. (Interactive screens, such as iPads and other tablets, are considered in the new recommendations.) The 0- to 2-year age group has become a prime target for commercial educational programming, often used by parents convinced that it's beneficial.
As screens proliferated, so did research. "There have been about 50 studies that have come out on media use by children in this age group between 1999 and now," said Ari Brown, a pediatrician and member of the AAP committee that wrote the new report.
Those studies have found that children don't really understand what's happening on a screen until they're about 2 years old. Once they do, media can be good for them, but until then television is essentially a mesmerizing, glowing box.
Used at night, TV might help kids fall asleep, but that appears to come at a delayed cost of subsequent sleep disturbances and irregularities. While the result of TV-induced sleep problems hasn't been directly studied, poor sleep in infants is generally linked to problems with mood, behavior and learning.
At other times, media consumption comes with opportunity costs, foremost among them the silence of parents. "While television is on, there's less talking, and talk time is very important in language development," said Brown.
'The way these kids' programs came out was, 'These are really educational!' Well that's great, but prove it. Show me the science.'
Three studies since 1999 have tracked educational television use and language development, and they found a link between increased TV time and developmental delays. Whether that's a cause or effect — parents who leave kids in front of televisions might simply be poor teachers — isn't clear, nor are the long-term effects, but the AAP called the findings "concerning." In the same vein, there may also be a link to attention problems.
Even when media plays in the background, it distracts babies from play, an activity that is known to have deep developmental benefits. And for parents who use media to carve out a few precious, necessary free minutes in busy schedules, Brown recommended letting kids entertain themselves.
"We know you can't spend 24 hours a day reading to your child and playing with them. That's okay. What's also okay is your child playing independently," she said. "That's valuable time. They're problem-solving. They're using their imagination, thinking creatively and entertaining themselves."
As for iPads and other kid-friendly interactive computing devises, Brown said research has barely started, much less come to conclusions. But she counseled skepticism of promotional claims, which have been made with some of the same zeal as products of now-dubious standing, such as the controversial Baby Einstein videos.
"The way these kids' programs came out was, 'These are really educational! They're going to help your kids learn!' Well that's great, but prove it. Show me the science," Brown said. "I don't have a problem with touch screens, and they're not necessarily bad. But we need to understand how this affects kids."

Selangor Tak Ikut Bubar DUN Jika Pilihanraya Sebelum Jun 2012

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 03:28 AM PST

-tvsnews

Skandal ‘Lembu’ Lambang Transformasi Najib

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 01:01 AM PST

Operasi dijadual bermula Februari 2008.

NFC kacau bilau

Pemimpin Umno bela Shahrizat

-FMT

NFC Salleh put blame on everything except the cow

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 10:29 PM PST

National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd chief executive chief officer Mohammad Salleh Ismail has put the blame on renegade staff for triggering the controversy over the company's finances, according to a Sinar Harian report today.

In the Malay language daily, Mohamed reportedly said that the issue arose from the actions of two NFC staff who went rogue and attempted to sabotage the company. Mohamaed believed they told the opposition about the company's internal finances because they were upset with the company and added that his company has filed a police report on suspicion that the duo had taken the company's thumb drive.

On calls for his wife Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who is women, family and community development minister to resign over the fiasco, Mohammed declined to comment but he told the daily that the matter was in the hands of his wife, the prime minister and his deputy.

When contacted, PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli laughed off the new development but refused to confirm if the duo investigated by the police are the source of the leak to PKR and said, "I would not confirm or deny the (source) of the leak...it would be dangerous for the whistleblowers."

Rafizi, who expects the police to come knocking soon, however, added that any probe on the whistleblowers would be a "distraction" from the real issue and told Malaysiakini that the police should instead focus on the report on the condominium, not chase after these poor whistleblowers.

Rafizi had revealed that the RM181 million government soft loan to NFC to manage a beef centre was used to buy luxury condominiums and several Umno leaders had benefited from the money and added that PKR has "a lot more information to reveal" if the company and its political ties do not own up to the irregularities exposed.

Rafizi who is scheduled to hold a press conference on the matter later today, said, "Politics aside, I personally just want them to admit that they made a mistake and for the government to take back the money."

Is the financial information of a public company a secret? Is it not open for public scrutiny? Is it not subject to internal and external auditors as well? So, what's the big deal about these two so-called whistleblowers unless there is indeed hanky-panky in the finances of the company? If in fact they're whistleblowers, then there should be more 'hidden' info than those already in the Auditor-General's Report.

[Video] Aaliyah, 8 Tahun, Pemenang Pingat Emas Termuda Sukan SEA Ke 26

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 11:11 PM PST

Sementara itu kakak tiri Aaliyah, Philippa Yoong turut menyumbang emas buat kontinjen negara semalam apabila menjuarai acara slalom wanita sukan ski air.

-hm

'Lepas menang boleh minta hadiah'

Mama (Norzeela Sulaiman) ingatkan jangan jatuh saja: Aaliyah Yoong

-BH

If NFC not in a mess, then A-G's Report in a mess!!

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 09:12 PM PST

'Feedlot project not in a mess'
The National Feedlot Corp (NFC) has denied that the project is in disarray, instead it has met the target set by the government.

The AG's Report said that NFC was in a mess and its production last year were only 3,289 head of cattle or 41 per cent of the target set but its chairman Mohamad Salleh Ismail said as the 30-year contract was only in the third year, teething problems during initial stage were to be expected.

pakatan rakyat convoy visit national feedlot corporation 031111 abbatoirWhen commenting on the Auditor-General's Report at the NSC office in Gemas today, he said, "In fact, NFC has raised 8,016 head of cattle in 2010, surpassing its target of 8,000 head of cattle. We are importing cattle from Australia and we have to feed them for between four and six months. We do not slaughter them soon after arrival. We will not slaughter the cattle if there is no market. And when they are not slaughtered, cattle feed costs will also increase."

Aiyo if like that, no point having the annual Auditor-General's Report when its findings are always either disputed or denied by the affected parties.

Pemuda Cabul Gadis Dalam Bas Ekspres, Dihalau Turun Oleh Pemandu

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 08:28 PM PST

Kajang: Helah seorang lelaki yang pura-pura tidur selepas cuba mencabul seorang pelajar perempuan di dalam bas ekspres gagal apabila dihalau keluar selepas mangsa memaklumkan perbuatan kejinya kepada pemandu bas berkenaan, 11 November lalu. Gambar Fail

Katanya, sangkaan mangsa meleset apabila suspek tiba-tiba memegang bahu mangsa beberapa minit.

Kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 354 Kanun Keseksaan kerana mencabul kehormatan. -hm
