Fact: Cheap 1Malaysia stuff for cheap rakyat's lives

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — The Health Ministry should instruct the operator of Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia stores to institute a refund policy for their now-recalled 1 Malaysia branded products, DAP publicity chief Tony Pua said today.
"We would call upon the minister to make the public announcement to be printed in all mainstream newspapers for all consumers who have purchased the products, to return the items to Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia stores for a full refund. (Read more @ The Malaysian Insider)

In response to Pua's call, Ameer, the Mydin boss tweeted, "Milk withdrawn on 12nov so why u still playing it up not enough cheap publicity ke."

Ameer's reaction is totally childish.

If Ameer is a genuine (and not a greedy) businessman who has the rakyat's wellbeing at heart, he would have made sure that the products were compliant with food regulations.

But then again, I guess that would have been a difficult duty to do since the cost and price of the products had to be kept as low as possible.

Whether or not Mydin is maximisng margins, it should not compromise on the quality of the products, all the more when low-income consumers are the target market.

Passed By PenangPAC (Performing Arts Centre), Straits Quay
#1: Located on Level 4 of Straits Quay.

Passed By PenangPAC (Performing Arts Centre), Straits Quay – Kuala Lumpur has the KLPac (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre), and now Penang has our very own PenangPAC – Performing Arts Centre of Penang. Oh yeah! Now I can get to enjoy some nice stage act, musical drama and show here in Penang.

It was opened on the 11th of November 2011, the 111111 day. I went to the Popular's Book Fair few days ago and passed by the PenangPAC, so I went in to check it out.

Untitled
#2: Wall of photography, illustrations and paintings.

Obviously, it's a lot smaller than the KLPac. but then it's looking spacious and nice with a simple decorations at the lobby. They have two halls which named Stage 1 and Stage 2. There's also a wall that showcases the good print artworks like photography and illustration.

IMG_6466
#3: I see they have a very nice looking interior office for their admin. Really like the workspace so much.

I think PenangPAC is a good platform on promoting performing arts to the local and also act as a stage to gather all the performing arts lover together. Will definitely go check out some show later.

[Video] A.Samad Said Seru Lakukan "Regime Change" & Koleksi Puisinya

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 09:14 AM PST

-HD

Puisi Jadi Senjata Bantah Undang-undang Perhimpunan Awam

-tvsnews

Perhimpunan Dedahkan UMNO Parti Assabiyah Bukan Wasatiyyah - Nizar

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 07:28 AM PST

Home sweet home

ALONG-AWAITED dream has come true for sisters Yap Siew Bee, 41, and Siew Thoo, 26, who have received a new low medium-cost home.

"I am so happy today and I can't wait to move into our unit when it is completed," said Siew Bee.

Siew Thoo said that previously, their large family of 10 all stayed under one roof.

"Now, we will have two units for all of us to live in," she said when they visited the soon-to-be completed Central Park project in Penang.

They were among 10 families living along Lebuhraya Batu Lanchang who were forced to move out in 2008 to make way for the project's development.
Jumping for joy: The residents expressing their happiness after checking out their low medium-cost units in Central Park on Lebuhraya Batu Lanchang. With them is Law (centre)

The families were compensated with units at the project after the state government intervened.

Another resident who declined to be named said he was looking forward to moving in.

"The unit looks very nice and trendy," he said.

Batu Lanchang assemblyman Danny Law met the affected families at Central Park and took them on a tour of their units.

Law said there were a total of 175 low medium-cost units at Central Park, with each unit measuring 16.25sq m.

"The families should be able to move into their units next month," he added.

Am I a Kala i.e. an Indian?

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 05:26 AM PST

When I born, I Kala
When I grow up, I Kala
When I go in Sun, I Kala
When I scared, I Kala
When I sick, I Kala
And when I die, I still Kala

But I am NOT going to write about others as I agree with Dr. Maung Zarni, who wrote in my FB, "We can't form our sentiments on the basis of people's skin color, hate or love.  it's the deeds and the systems that enable certain despicable deeds to take place, with immunity, which we must fight.  Otherwise we all end up racist pigs."

Yes, he is right. We need not look at others depending on Race, Religion, Skin Color, Origin etc but on its merits…i.e. Meritocracy must be practiced.

Even then, we should not be always JUDGEMENTAL or critical or finding faults on others.

My patient and friend Mr Kok wrote in his Alancykok Blog, quoted from Dao De Jing the founder of Taoism:

  1. "Treat those who are good with goodness, and also treat those who are not good with goodness.
    • Thus goodness is attained.
  2. Be honest to those who are honest, and be also honest to those who are not honest.
    • Thus honesty is attained"

"Well, there are people who think that it's right to do anything in the name of their religion, their race, their family, or any organization to which they may belong," said Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

In the United Nations Human Rights Charter:

  1. The purposes of the United Nations are – - – to achieve International cooperation _ in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language and religion…"
  2. "Equality,      justice, dignity" is      the emblem      that represents the goals of the Human Rights Committee. The      comprehensive implementation of actions against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia      and related intolerances is a very important topic because these forms of      intolerances have been global issues since biblical      times.
  3. For decades,      thousands of people have been victims of discrimination, preferences      and exclusions in view of their race, skin color, sex, religion, language,      national or ethnic origin and form of expression, causing      extreme suffering and even loss of life.
  4. Racial discrimination is the ability or      power to make distinctions among people based on race, color, decent,      national or ethnic origin rather than individual merit.

The United Nations Former Secretary General, Kofi Annan stated:

"Ignorance and prejudice are the handmaidens of propaganda… Our mission therefore is to confront ignorance with knowledge, bigotry with tolerance, and isolation with outstretched hand of generosity. Racism can, will and must be defeated. Almost every country in the world suffers prejudice among its own people, either racial discrimination, xenophobia or religious intolerance."

The importance of overcoming misunderstandings and animosities between the people of different beliefs and cultural traditions is through peaceful dialogue and mutual respect.

After all, as a Muslim, I must obey the order of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the Farewell Hajj sermon:

  1. "No Arabhas any superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab.
  2. Nor does a white man have any superiority over a black man or the black man any superiority over the white man.
  3. You are all the children of Adam, and Adam was created from clay" (al-Bayhaqi and al-Bazzaz).

Of Contrasting Wind-Ups and Clashing Visions

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 04:18 AM PST

The following article from Malaysiakini is by Terence Netto.

Of contrasting wind-ups and clashing visions

The contrast between the two winding-up speeches could not have been starker.

Disdaining malice or frivolity, PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim's wrap-up remarks to the party's annual congress in Johor Baru last week was a neat demonstration of the orator's art.

By contrast, Umno president Najib Razak's summing-up to his party's annual conclave yesterday had what Shakespeare said in Macbeth about some of life's dramas: full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Both winding-up speeches were supposed to shift the party's delegates into battle mode for an imminent general election, surely a pivotal moment in the country's search for fresh directions in the face of political and economic sclerosis.

But whereas Anwar made an effort to distill understanding from past history, attempted an analysis of present challenges, and pointed to what was required to meet them, Najib opted for unvarnished jingoism.

The contrast between the two speeches was not only in their content and style of delivery; the differences in the physical settings provided suitable, or in Najib's case, ironic commentary to their separate thrusts.

Pulai Springs where the PKR meeting was held is a golfing eyrie carved out of an oil palm plantation, the tented area in which the congress convened nestling in a grove that overlooks lush greens.

The arcadian setting provided a tempting backdrop to a weary-looking Anwar's postulations about the allure of incumbency in four Pakatan Rakyat-controlled states, but that he, PKR and the opposition coalition had promises to keep and an arduous mountain to climb before they could catch their breath.

The Putra World Trade Centre, where Umno holds its annual talk fest, is a modernist architectural construct but Najib's winding-up rhetoric suggested that, no matter the ambient uplift of plush surroundings, his stock of inspirational leadership is as wan as some European nations' treasuries.

Speaking truth to power

We are told, without vision nations wither in the gap between a dearth of aspiration and a shortage of will and ability to deliver.

In what way was the vision presented by Anwar at the conclusion of PKR's annual meeting last week a substantive contrast to that unveiled by Najib at the conclusion of Umno's conclave?

Anwar's vision touched on religion by bringing up the day's Maal Hijrah celebrations to which he said PKR's non-Muslims joined in the observations of the beginning of the Muslim year and that the spectacle was reflective of the party's push for social solidarity and cohesion.

His vision touched on race but rejected exclusivist and separatist conceptions that breed the hegemony of one race over the others. He said minorities had a right to be treated fairly by the majority.

Anwar's vision brought up justice that he said was the thrust of famed thinkers from the state of Johor when it was under the Riau sultanate who took care to speak truth to power.

His vision also touched on the absolute prerequisite of successful governance: no hand that dips into the public chest be allowed impunity.

Anwar posited a vision of PKR and Pakatan responding to the dire challenges that faced the country with a higher and greater diffusion of the standards of frugality, fairness and integrity displayed thus far in the Pakatan-controlled states.

In other words, what Malaysians had seen in Penang, Selangor, Kelantan and to some extent in Kedah, would be what they would get in greater measure throughout the country should a PKR-led Pakatan government hold the reins of Putrajaya.

Creating fear and insecurity

In contrast to the PKR supremo's vision of national challenge and response, Najib sought in his winding-up speech to create fear of what the opposition would bring about if they should win the next general election.

Perdition would be the result of a Pakatan victory, claimed Najib, with the Malay race, Islamic religion, and the country's economic advancement brought, for sure, from boon to blight.

It was as if Umno and its leader have inhabited a space totally shut off from the Pakatan-controlled realms. Or that what they see is not what Pakatan says it is.

In democratic politics, every citizen is entitled to his or her opinion but not to the facts.

Fortunately, the latter is in a domain over which no governor has exclusive sovereignty, not even one that has had power-of-attorney for over half a century and behaves like it has it for eternity.

Standard Chartered Marathon 2011

Link to SCM Pictures: Here!

To begin with, track is my passion, my entire life.

I had never really want to give it up. And it had been a roller coaster ride since the fall in May 2003.  It was raining that day, and the staircase was kinda wet. I remembered wearing my new shoes – US Master (scream: MY FAVOURITE!!!) and I was talking to my friends. Didn't quite pay attention to the steps. So instead of stepping onto one of the "steps", my feet was 45degrees on one of the edge. That was it. I basically went: TOINK! TOINK! TOINK! Down the stairs. It was the most unglam thing ever. My skirt flared up (Obviously, I had wore shorts underneath!). In front of me was the 2 table tennis tables. Crowded with BOYS playing. THAT VERY MOMENT, I really wished I could dig a hole and hide!

And so that was it. Since it was recess time. I went back to class as per normal. only to reach home with a very swollen knee. Mummy was extremely worried and sent me to the chinese sinseh. It got well after a while. But it left me… with quite a lot of problems. I could still run my 100m and 4x100m without much issues and still get the Top3 spots. 2004, I was quite scared to compete because I was afraid to lose it due to my knee injury.  But thank god, we had a bronze for our relay event. Back then I was still having issues with my knee. I was in and out of SGH for checkups and X-Rays. I even did a MRI scan. I was given a All-Clear despite the pain I'm still having whether or not I'm running. And all the doctors said was -

It's all in the mind. You have to get over it psychologically.

Besides those checks, I even went for physiotherapy – learning how to walk properly. My therapist – male even made a comment that he think I was more "chor-lor" than him. -.- And back then my walking was \/ instead of ||. Attempts to correct my way of walking didn't quite go through until like 2008, it became \| . Every time I try to turn my knee inwards and to walk straight, it was hurt so freaking bad. It is only recently that I managed to walk || and it doesn't quite hurt.

Back in 2007, while I was still at NgeeAnn, I couldn't quite run my 2.4km during the NAPFA Test. I think I took more than 45mins to finish it. My knee started hurting when I was on my second round of run, probably the 600m mark. And I had ended up walking the rest of the 2km. By the time they kept the timer, I was still… on the track. =X

I had joined NgeeAnn Track in my attempt to continue my passion for track. But the knee doesnt quite listen to my heart nor my brain. Since my knee wasnt as good as before, the coach suggested I should do stamina training. 3.2km every training. But instead of running 3.2km, i was actually WALKING the 3.2km. Feeling demoralized, I decided to withdrew from the NP Track Team. That was 2006.

From 2006 to now, I had took part in TNP Big Walk, which was just 5km which I think was a gimmick. The markers was "strategically" placed instead of correctly placed. the first 1km seems like 400m and the last 400m seems like 1km. And I also took part in one of the SIM Red Cross Charity Run event. 4.7km in 45mins.

Looking at friends going for marathons runs somehow made me envious and miss track even more. Especially I took the time off to let my knee to recuperate fully. Mummy also cooked a lot of frog legs and pig trotters for me. And I decided, this is it. I'm gonna sign myself up for Standard Chartered Marathon. Since I had always pick 5km, why not be a little ambitious and go for 10km instead!

Months before the race, I had actually planned to train. But recently there had been so much things happened till I didn't really had the mood nor the time to properly train myself for the race. I even got my shoes one month before the race, and I didnt wore it out to season it. I wore the new shoes straight for the race. (Crazy, but yes. I'm now with a 2cm wide blister – now raw skin). So is the arm band. I bought it just less than a week before the race.

When I woke up this morning, I was feeling a lil anxious and fidgety. Afterall, its my first competitive marathon and I'm doing it for myself . Naturally the stomach was feeling a lil excited too. Dropped by at City Link Mall's toilet for a quick toilet break before the flag off. And by the time I crossed the underpass to Butter Factory and then to the start point, it was already 8.17am (flag off at 7.15am) And I see some 10km and 5km ppl are already on their way back to the finishing point. Then while I was after the 1km mark, my left calf muscles started to have this burning sensation. And actually before the race, my two feet were already having blisters.

Seriously at the point of time, I really feel damn demoralised. People are finishing and I have such a long journey ahead. Blisters, calf muscles hurting, my toes are getting a lil sore. I saw an old couple walking. The old man with a stick was holding on to his wife's arm brisk walking for some distance. When I did my u-turn and reaching the 6km mark, I saw the oldman keeping his stick and decided to jog with his wife. Somehow that brighten my morning a lil. Then on two different occassions, I saw one auntie brisk walking, taking photo, really enjoying herself for the 10km run. And another whereby the dad was pushing a pram with his daughter sitting inside looking at ppl running.

Things got a lil bored when it was the 4km-7km mark. I started to people stare and start telling myself I will made it to the finish line. The pain, the blisters are all in the mind. And now looking back, I actually don't feel THAT tired even after walking that 10km in under 2hrs.

I knew it was the final lap when I was soon back onto the Singapore River but this time on Fullerton Hotel's side. The curve where all the photographers were all sitting on stools taking photos. And I was back on the bridge! And it all coming back to me now, just a year ago, I was one of those volunteers channeling the runners to be on the correct track to finish the race at the correct lane.

It was the final 150m. That was it, I cut through the crowd and really ran pass the finishing line. That was the moment nobody else in the world could understand – how much finishing this race could mean to you. You went through so much trouble, with all the knee problems, took a few years off track to recuperate and now you finished your first 10km competitive marathon race halved of your targeted timing.

I knew I need about 3 hours to walk about 11km. So I actually targeted to finish this race under 3 hours on the fact that I didn't train at all for this race. And I managed to get it cleared in 1hr 39mins! Not a very fantastic timing, but its good enough for me, at least for a start. At least now I know how good/bad I am running 10km. When I have more time, I could train and aim to keep it under an hour. Now, that's my next target. Cheer me on alright? =)

Track, I miss you baby!

Aziz Bari Bakal Ucapkan "Selamat Tinggal UIA" Awal 2012

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 04:55 AM PST

Akhir bulan lalu, Aziz memberitahu The Malaysian Insider bahawa beliau tiada langsung cita-cita mahu menyertai politik ataupun bertanding pilihan raya meskipun kalangan pemimpin Umno mencabarnya berbuat demikian.

-TMI

Char Koay Teow Basah (Wet) @ Sungai Rambai, Bukit Mertajam

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 02:22 AM PST

Char Koay Teow Basah (Wet) @ Sungai Rambai, Bukit Mertajam – When we talk about Char Koay Teow, the place "Penang" came into mind, and then it came the huge shrimps, and the dry flat noodles with beansprout, a little bit of hot chilli paste, cockles the the flat noodle pan fried with special soy sauce – Penang's Char Koay Teow.

Have you ever wonder what it is when Char Koay Teow is fried by our local Malay friend? It turned from dry to to wet. Malay-style of Char Koay Teow is basically has a special salty and sweet wet sauce which pour onto the flat noodle and is believe that it's from the little town of Bukit Mertajam.

With the absence of pork lard, it still however brings another type of surprise to you. It's a whole new experience of Char Koay Teow.

On one of the road connecting into Bukit Mertajam town – Jalan Sungai Rambai, lies a Malay-style Char Koay Teow that provides delicious dinner and supper for the locals. It's located in front of a furniture shop and you can easily spot the place when you see the AIA building, where the stall is just right opposite of it.

At RM3.00 per plate, you will see a bowl of waterish wet dark brown sauce which half flooded the flat white noodle. Beansprout, cockles and small shrimps are accompanied with the little dish. The sauce is special as it's cook with egg and tasted salty, and a little bit of sweetness.

Ask for "udang kopek" which actually means for removing the shell of the shrimp when ordering to ease your eating experience. The little Penang's street food by our local Malay friend is special, nice, yet I found the portion is rather small. It went in my stomach in just a short period of time.

Nevertheless, it's something that should be try. I've read that at Alma, Bukit Mertajam has another stall that sells this kind of Char Koay Teow and I would like to try it one day.

Langkah UMNO Tiupkan Api Perkauman Dibidas, Tak Mungkin DAP Pimpin Pakatan Rakyat

Posted: 04 Dec 2011 02:48 AM PST

-mk

Indeks Jenayah Pulau Pinang Turun 20.1 Peratus

Manakala jenayah pecah rumah mencatatkan penurunan sebanyak 445 kes berbanding 1,996 kes dilaporkan tahun lepas.

Walaubagaimanapun menurut Zahruddin kes samun motosikal mencatatkan peningkatan sebanyak 10 peratus berbanding tahun lepas.
