US marines urinating on dead Afghan

If you are news-conscious you probably have learnt about this, of the four US marines apparently urinating on Afghan corpses (else, read from Dailymail or BBC)…

US marines urinating on dead Afghan

Things often go beyond right or wrong in a war imo. I couldn't see how desecration of corpses are any worse than taking one's life to begin with; war is never pretty. Don't get me wrong though, it's appalling, but I find it ironic that most critics don't give much damn about the number of casualties but all hyped about this act instead.

It's unfortunate for the US troopers who risked (and many who lost) their lives on foreign soil only to have their reputation tainted by a few rotten apples. Incident like this is perfect propagandist material which could undo many other efforts.

Terbaru! Diana Amir Jawab Isu Aksi Berkemban Dalam Filem KERAMAT

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 10:58 AM PST

Namun saya redha," jelasnya penuh sesalan. -murai

North Koreans punished for poor mourning

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 12:54 AM PST

Late North Korean leader Kim Jong-ilIt's reported that North Korea are punishing people who didn't mourn enough for the death of former leader Kim Jong-il (pic), and also those who criticised the new leader and the dynastic system.

It's claimed that authorities "are handing down at least six months in a labour training camp to anybody who didn't participate in the organized gatherings during the mourning period, or who did participate but didn't cry and didn't seem genuine."

The news came from a pro North-Korea-democratisation-movement paper, so there could be bias issue. And there's very little solid evidence besides citing some "reliable" (but anonymous) sources. But still, it's North Korea, nuff said.

The First Three Chapters

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 07:33 AM PST

Today, I had my second photo-art lesson with my sifu, K.A. Tan, a talented artist dedicated to bringing out the best of nature and man via the use of traditional medium and the latest IT gadgets/applications. It was a most inspiring lesson and I have lots to do from now till the next lesson after Chinese New Year.

As such, I was inspired to put together the first three chapters of my unfinished novel "Entwined", a pet project I started in 2009 and remains unfinished. One of my new year resolutions for 2012 is to write a chapter every month till the I finish the book.

The cover of this e-book is  only a temporary and experimental version till I design one of my own. The story is original and I have had the plot since 2007. Yes, I know I am a terrible procrastinator  :-(. The first two chapters were posted over a few days in February 2009 and the third in August 2009.

Spanning three generations across three continents and two world wars, "Entwined" is a tale of love found and lost in a land torn apart by war, intrigue, greed and vengeance.

From tragedy to resilience, enduring love to perseverance, "Entwined" embodies the heart of humanity at a time when many of us have forgotten what it means to love, to cherish and to lose our identity and our loved ones.

You can read my tale AT THIS LINK.

Sodomy II is now over after a long and perilous trial. It is not Anwar Ibrahim that I cared less, but I cared more for his family members. I sense the agony, restlessness, fear and uncertainty that the family members had gone through all these years. I being a father of three children and a grandfather of four grand children could sense the suffering endured by Dr. Wan Azizah, her children and grandchildren. It is because of such great feelings of sympathy that I had for Anwar's family that had influenced me to slant most of my writings to favour Anwar Ibrahim. I am truly amazed at the strength of Dr. Wan Azizah to be able to withstand the persistent onslaught against her husband by UMNO, and to be able to keep the family glued together in times of absolute hardship. With the trial over, I hope Anwar's family members can now go on with their lives in the comfort that they do not have to endure many more trips to the Jalan Duta High Court.

The slandering, smearing, scurrilous attacks and character assassination of Anwar and his family by UMNO and their cohorts however will not cease. Even as I write, I could already hear voices of dissent against Anwar, and expectedly from none other than Ummi Hafilda, the sister of PKR's Azmin Ali. Isn't this the woman that was embroiled in Anwar Ibrahim's first sodomy charge? And wasn't she the woman that was renounced by her own father for causing a feud within the family? To be renounced by her own father is serious and hell awaits her if she does not repent and seek forgiveness from her father. I do not know if she had ever sought forgiveness from her father before he died. Ummi Hafilda has vowed to continue her personal vendetta and scurrilous attacks against the three A's i.e. Anwar, Azizah and Azmin. I am quite sure she will be a super campaigner for UMNO in the run up to the election, slandering everyone that is associated with Anwar including his own blood brother Azmin. You call this an honorable lady? It's only UMNO that honors' her. So Ummi, please keep on slandering and smearing others to your heart's contend. And after you have finished, take a look at the mirror and ask yourself if you have never sinned in your lifetime.

From the statements made by UMNO/BN leaders following Anwar's not guilty verdict, there isn't the obvious fear shown by them that more trouble can be expected from Anwar, given his new found freedom. The show of 'confidence' can either mean that UMNO/BN is fully equipped and ready to take on the full brunt of Anwar's onslaught, or that the party is now too confused and digging hard to device new strategies to counter Anwar's new wave of popularity that is so obviously seen at all his political rallies. This new wave of popularity is a photo copy of the scene that led to PR unexpected victory in denying UMNO/BN their two third majority during the 2008 GE.

While PR leaders are already in the forefront in their daily political rallies, UMNO/BN leaders are still tugged in the comfort of their stately homes, officiating functions and possibly attending dinners as its guest of honour. Maybe, some would return home on the weekends to their constituencies for a meet-the-members session and to hand out a gift or two.

It is interesting to make a comparison on the people's appeal and response at UMNO/BN's and PR political rallies. I note that there is an obvious mismatch between the two political parties, notably in the quality of the speakers and their fluency at articulating issues. I think PR has an upper hand at this. PR also seems to have a retinue of young and able speakers at any particular rally and their appearance is pleasantly received by the audience who are also generally young. I wonder why is the UMNO genius Khairy Jamaluddin so quite now? Has he not started his rallies? I am just waiting to hear him debate with PR's Rafizi over the NFC scandal.

In UMNO/BN it is only PM Najib that seems to be making his rounds at meet-the-people sessions, but the audiences that attend his political rallies are certainly far short of the numbers attending Anwar Ibrahim's rallies. If this can be taken as a measure of popularity, I think Anwar Ibrahim is one up on PM Najib. Anwar Ibrahim's oratory skills and the way he appeals to the audience to communicate with him is no match for PM Najib. PM Naijb's is too stereotype in his speech and presentation. He also does have the right vocal to attract the audience attention.

I think UMNO/BN has yet to be awakened to the political realities that surround them; made worse by the recent corruption scandals plaguing the party leaders. Despite the obvious misdeeds, PM Najib has yet to level blame on anyone of them. On the contrary, PM Najib has declared that there are no claims of corruption against anyone of them i.e. Shahrizat, Awang Adek, Jamil Khir and I suppose this includes the two aides of Ministers. And what about Azalina Othman Said? A decision like this I think will be the cause for the eventual downfall of PM Najib and that of his party.

If indeed UMNO/BN is to fall this upcoming GE, then it is the number 13 that is to be blamed.

Ah Mei Berusia 71 Tahun Berpuasa Untuk Pembebasan Anwar

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 07:28 AM PST

'Bersihkan Malaysia' Pecutan Akhir Pakatan Ke Putrajaya

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 04:30 AM PST

An Orwellian assault on free speech by Clifford D. May

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 03:25 AM PST

It's funny, in an Orwellian way, that in Europe there are now militant groups with such cutesy names as Sharia4Belgium and Sharia4Holland. Less funny, but perhaps more Orwellian, is this:

Last month, the European Foundation for Democracy (EFD) held an event in Amsterdam featuring two speakers who favor liberalizing Islam. More than 20 members of these pro-sharia groups pushed their way in shouting "Allahu akbar!" They demanded the event be stopped, called the speakers apostates, spat on them, threw eggs at them, and threatened to kill them. Proud of these actions and apparently not overly concerned with legal consequences, they even made a YouTube videoof their "protest."

Now here's the least funny and most Orwellian part: Very few Europeans — very few journalists, politicians, members of the self-proclaimed Human Rights community, or Muslim organizations claiming to be moderate — have expressed outrage over this boot-stomping suppression of free speech in a city, country, and continent that claim to value freedom and tolerance. Imagine if the situation had been slightly different — if, say, a Muslim Brotherhood event had been violently disrupted by spitting, egg-throwing, death-threatening Christians or Jews.

Roberta Bonazzi, EFD's Italian-born executive director — a friend and colleague of mine — bravely vowed not to be silenced. "We are united and will continue to support inspirational Muslim reformers across Europe," she said. The speakers she had attempted to feature also kept a stiff upper lip. Irshad Manji, Canadian author of The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim's Call for Reform in Her Faith, said that she and Dutch parliamentarian Tofik Dibi had "refused to leave, even when police asked. We wouldn't play on jihadi terms." Dibi, of the Green-Left party (and of Moroccan descent), said "the disruption shows that even in the Netherlands it is necessary to continue the debate on reforming Islam."

Necessary, yes; safe, no. In Europe, increasingly, free speech ends where Islam, Islamism, and even Islamic terrorism begin. Two months ago, the Paris offices of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo were firebombed and its staff targeted with death threats after publication of an issue "edited" by the prophet Mohammad.

In 2004, Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh was murdered on an Amsterdam street: He had directed a film about the treatment of women in Islamic societies. The film's author, Somali-born Dutch parliamentarian and writer Ayaan Hirsi Ali, also was subjected to death threats. She subsequently fled to America.

In 2005, the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published a dozen cartoons satirizing terrorism in the name of Islam. That led to protests, riots, death threats, an assassination plot, and the bombing of the Danish embassy in Pakistan.

All of this continues a trend begun more than a generation ago: In 1989, Iranian revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini ordered any Muslim willing and able to murder British author Salman Rushdie, whose novel The Satanic Verses Khomeini deemed blasphemous. Rushdie has required body guards ever since.

Had he been resident in any of the more than 50 states that hold membership in the Saudi-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (formerly called the Organization of the Islamic Conference but the new name is so much friendlier), that probably would not have saved him. Last year, Salmaan Taseer, the governor of Pakistan's Punjab province, defended a Christian woman sentenced to death under Pakistan's blasphemy law for having said something some Muslims found offensive. One of Taseer's own bodyguards shot him 27 times with an MP5 sub-machine gun. Many Pakistani clerics and religious scholars praised the killer and prohibited praying at Taseer's funeral.

Not a single OIC member state seriously guarantees freedom of speech. Some, notably Saudi Arabia, also actively prohibit freedom of worship. Nevertheless, in association with the OIC, the U.S. State Department last month hosted, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attended, a three-day, closed-door international conference in Washington on combating religious "intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization."

Behind those closed doors, the conference reinforced the OIC tenet that all religions are equal — though one is more equal than others. OIC members are concerned only about the "defamation" of Islam and, evidently, they do not view militant Muslims attacking reformist Muslims as defaming their faith.

Nina Shea, who serves on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, was able to attend parts of the conference. She argued that the Obama administration "erred" in portraying it as "as a meeting of minds between the OIC and America on freedoms of religion and speech." On the contrary, the conference "immediately reignited OIC demands for the West to punish anti-Islamic speech" as Saudi clerics and Iranian mullahs interpret that term.

Shea noted, too, that speakers at the conference "gave a sweeping overview of American founding principles on religious freedom and how they have been breached time and again in American history by attacks against a broad variety of religious minority groups — including now against Muslims." The audience was reassured that "the Obama administration is working diligently to prosecute American Islamophobes and is transforming the U.S. Justice Department into the conscience of the nation, though it could no doubt learn a thing or two from the assembled delegates."

From which delegates exactly? The Saudis whose school textbooks describe Jews as apes and Christians as swine? Or those of the European Union, which, in response to the violence incited over the Danish cartoons, has mandated religious hate-speech codes that shield Islamic militants from criticism but, as the attack against EFD's speakers illustrates, do little to protect the rights of liberal Muslims, much less of non-Muslims?

Will the day come when Europeans and Americans again stand up on their hind legs and defend their freedoms, values, and traditions? Or have we effectively given up the fight in an attempt to appease such groups as the OIC and Sharia4Belgium? If only Orwell were still with us: I bet he'd have some pungent answers to these questions.

Shahrizat takes leave as minister

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 03:04 AM PST

Shahrizat Jalil will be on leave for three weeks from tomorrow as Women, Family and Community Development Minister.

She has put in the leave application to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"I hope the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be able to undertake the investigation to determine whether I was associated with or not in any of the decisions made by the Government on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) in which my husband, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammad Salleh Ismail, is the executive chairman," she said in a statement.

The NFC issue cropped up after the 2010 Auditor-General's Report issued last October said the corporation's cattle-breeding project in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, to boost production and reduce import of beef had failed to meet its target.

The issue heated up following allegations by the opposition political parties of irregularities in the government allocation of RM250 million to NFC.

Speculations are rife that Shahrizat will not be chosen as a BN candidate in the next general election. Her Senate seat also will not be extended.

I don't want to speculate and contemplate. Its the prerogative rights of Najib as Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman.

Until investigations are concluded, better not write any further...

Timeline of "mysterious" deaths and blasts linked to Iran's nuclear program

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 02:30 AM PST

From Haaretz:
January 11, 2012

Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, 32, is killed by a bomb placed on his car by a motorcyclist in Tehran. According to the semi-official Fars news agency, Roshan was a university professor and nuclear scientist who supervised a department at Natanz uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan province. Fars cites witnesses as saying a motorcyclist stuck a magnetic bomb on the side of the car which then exploded, killing one and wounding two people inside.

December 11, 2011

At least seven people are reportedly killed in an explosion at a steel mill linked with Iran's nuclear program in the city of Yazd.

November 28, 2011

An explosion rocks the western Iranian city of Isfahan, home to key nuclear facility, according to a report by the semi-official Fars news agency, which adds that the blast is heard in several parts of the city.

November 12, 2011

A massive explosion at a military arms depot near Tehran reportedly kills 17 members of the Revolutionary Guards including a missile expert, and wounds 15, in what officials say they are treating as an accident.

July 23, 2011

Dariush Rezaeinejad, a 35-year-old member of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, is reportedly shot dead by two gunmen firing from motorcycles. State-run media initially identify the victim as Darioush Rezaei, a physics professor and expert in neutron transport, but later backtrack and name him Dariush Rezaeinejad, an electronics PhD student who participated in developing high-voltage switches, a key component to setting off the explosions needed to trigger a nuclear warhead.

May 24, 2011

An explosion blamed on a technical problem reportedly causes a fire at an oil refinery during a visit by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. One person is killed and six injured but Ahmadinejad was not hurt and appeared on state television giving a scheduled speech to mark the inauguration of a new phase of the refinery in Abadan, south-western Iran, close to the Iraqi border.

Wonder Girls – The DJ Is Mine music video (ft. School Gyrls)

New English music video by Korean pop group Wonder Girls, The DJ Is Mine, featuring American pop group School Gyrls. The song will be used as OST for upcoming Wonder Girls themed TV-movie (co-starring the School Gyrls as well)…

Wonder Girls DJ Is Mine with School Gyrls

Everything looks/sounds more westernised than ever. Not my cup of tea, but Wonder Girls probably have better chance to make it in the US with this genre. I've always felt that it's pointless though, for K-pop artists to make it big in the west by adapting too much to western pop while bringing nothing new. Perhaps I'm expecting too much.

Suami Wardina Diikat Dalam Kejadian Samun

Penjenayah mengambil masa 45 minit menyelongkar seluruh rumah sebelum melarikan barang berharga termasuk lima komputer riba, empat telefon bimbit, cincin emas, kunci kereta dan wang tunai RM200.

Katanya beliau membuat laporan polis di Balai Polis Hulu Kelang pada 4.30 pagi dan Ketua Polis Daerah Ampang Jaya ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin ketika dihubungi mengesahkan kejadian serta siasatan sedang dijalankan. - BERNAMA

(GAMBAR) Keadaan Rumah WARDINA Yang Dimasuki PEROMPAK

Will AG appeal acquittal? Will AG charge Soi Lek?!

January 11, 2012

Remember on 2:37PM Mar 29, 2010, Malaysiakini reported 'AG accused of 'prosecutorial dishonesty'' and I posted:
He has charged Anwar with sodomy, but not another politician who was caught with his pants down.
Attorney-General (AG) Abdul Gani Patail has been accused of "dishonesty" and the lack of even-handedness in prosecuting Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy.

lingam tape panel meeting 031007 abdul gani patailAnwar's lawyer Sankara Nair said this in a statement today, in which he questioned why similar action has not been taken against Dr Chua Soi Lek, who has admitted to involvement in oral sex.

Sankara did not name Chua, but referred to the video footage implicating "a former minister of health of the ruling (coalition) ,who has just won the presidency of his party".

"The (DVD) has been in the public domain for about two years. The video shows him engaging in oral sex with a woman. He also publicly admitted that he was the actor in the video.

"Indeed oral sex with or without consent is no different from anal sex and it clearly falls within the same Section 377B of the Penal Code under which Anwar is charged."

Wardina Saffiyyah Dirompak.. Suami Dipukul..

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 10:04 PM PST

Terkejut kami apabila melihat akaun Twitter milik Wardina Saffiyah kecoh sebentar.

Gambar fail: Wardina bersama anak-anaknya.

-sedakasejahtera
