So after checking out the special Valentine's Day menu, what do you think? Hahaha. It must be expensive right? Though, you don't really want to spend your Valentine's Day with your love one at the hawker stall or fast food corner. For other alternative, or a cheaper one, you can cook a candle light dinner at home, or visit some other restaurant that offer normal day menu. I kinda dislike when restaurants offer only Valentine's Day menu during that day, it lessen the choice of ordering other food.

Happy Valentine's Day. I'll tell you where I celebrate my V Day few days later. Hehe.

Real Life Jokes about SIRI (iPhone 4s)

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 07:27 AM PST

Do you have the iPhone4s? I don't. But my son has it. When my boy came back for the Chinese New Year celebrations, we had many hilarious episodes with Siri.

One evening, we were on our way to a friend's house for a CNY dinner....

Me: Son, can you show me what Siri can do?

Son: Sure, Mom. Siri, call Mom.

Siri: I am sorry. I don't see Mom in the directory.

Son: Call Paula Khoo.

Siri: I am sorry. I also don't see Paula Khoo in the directory.

Son: Call Mom's handphone.

Siri: Which handphone? (*I have two numbers.)

Son: Just call. I don't care!!

Siri: I'm sorry. I don't care is not in the directory.

:-) So much for technology.

This afternoon, I was chatting with a girlfriend in Facebook. I asked her what she had been up to and she said 'playing'.

I said, "Oh - with what?"

Her response: With Siri.

And then she went on to say that she told Siri that he is an idiot to which he responded: "You are entitled to your opinion.

Following that, my friend asked Siri, "Can I sleep with you, Siri?"

Siri replied, "Would u like a list of stores selling beds?"

My friend said, "You are stupid."

And Siri's response was,"I can only understand if u speak UK English. :-)

All this really happened!

Anyway, if you have time, check out this post on Funny Flirting with Siri; the Apple of my iPhone.

If you want MORE laughs, then watch the following videos:

Siri on Raj's iPhone 4S - The Big Bang Theory (I really LOVE this clip hehe A MUST WATCH)

This one is also VERY funny: Raj meets Siri The Big Bang Theory S5x14

Take care and have a lovely evening. Do share your experiences with Siri. :-)

R.I.P Whitney Houston (1963 – 2012)

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 06:55 AM PST

In memory of Whitney Houston who passed away today
Wuan's collection of Whitney Houston cassettes and CDs.
Photo taken with the Samsung Galaxy S II.

"No one can sing like her. No one has a voice like that." That was how Wuan summed up Whitney Houston when she told me of the sad news this morning. Indeed, Whitney Houston had a voice that is nonpareil. Only Whitney Houston could have pulled off the hauntingly beautiful "I Will Always Love You" with such flair, with her incredible vocal range and breath.

She sang the stories of my life in those earlier years after the fateful diving accident. Her songs grieved along when I was heartbroken and celebrated the joys when I was in love. If ever there was a song that inspired me most, it must surely be "The Greatest Love Of All". That song taught me I could achieve the greatest love of all by simply learning to love myself. That I did. It made the limitations that I was living with easier to bear.

Thank you, Whitney, for your uplifting songs at a time when I needed it most. I have never stopped loving myself since. You have changed my life for the better. Thank you.

May you rest in peace.

[WASPADA] Ada "Superman" Di Kuala Berang, Terengganu

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 07:12 AM PST

Terjun ala 'Superman'

-SH

Yayasan Selangor Diaudit 6 Bulan Sekali Dibawah PR Berbanding 3 Tahun Sekali Semasa BN

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 06:19 AM PST

MB: Yayasan Selangor Di Audit 3 Tahun Sekali Ketika BN

Your Parrot is Dead, Senor!

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 04:11 AM PST

Thanks to Kassim who sent me the following post.

Your Parrot Is Dead, Senor!

At dawn, the telephone rings.

"Hello, Senor Rod? This is Ernesto, the caretaker at your country house."

"Ah yes, Ernesto. What can I do for you? Is there a problem?"

"Um, I am just calling to advise you, Senor Rod, that your parrot, he is dead."

"My parrot? Dead? The one that won the International competition?"

"Si, Senor, that's the one."

"Damn! That's a pity! I spent a small fortune on that bird. What did he die from?"

"From eating the rotten meat, Senor Rod."

"Rotten meat? Who the hell fed him rotten meat?"

"Nobody, Senor. He ate the meat of the dead horse."

"Dead horse? What dead horse?"

"The thoroughbred, Senor Rod."

"My prize thoroughbred is dead?"

"Yes Senor Rod, he died from all that work pulling the water cart."

"Are you insane?? What water cart?"

"The one we used to put out the fire, Senor."

"Good Lord!! What fire are you talking about, man??"

"The one at your house, Senor! A candle fell and the curtains caught on fire."

"What the hell?? Are you saying that my mansion is destroyed because of a candle??!!"

"Yes, Senor Rod."

"But there's electricity at the house! What was the candle for?"

"For the funeral, Senor Rod."

"WHAT BLOODY FUNERAL??!!"

"Your wife's, Senor Rod. She showed up very late one night and I thought she was a thief, so I hit her with your new R580 XD golf club.

SILENCE . . . . . . .. . . LONG SILENCE . . .. . . . . ..

"Ernesto, if you broke that driver, you're in deep sh*t!!"

UNHCR book on Islam’s neglect of refugee laws in Quaran

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 03:02 AM PST

Source: UNHCR chief launches book on Islam's contributions to refugee law

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 24 (UNHCR) – A UNHCR-sponsored book on the influence of Islam and Arab tradition on modern-day international refugee law was released this week in Saudi Arabia, at a ceremony addressed by High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.

The comparative study, commissioned by Guterres and contained in a new book by Cairo University law professor and dean of the law faculty, Ahmed Abu Al-Wafa, was launched at Naif Arab University in Riyadh. Presiding over the ceremony were Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and head of Naif Arab University's Supreme Council and the university's president , Professor Abdul-Aziz bin Saqr al-Ghamedi.

The book says Islam's 1,400-year-old tradition of generosity toward people fleeing persecution has had more influence on modern-day international refugee law than any other historical source.

In remarks as part of Naif Arab University's commencement exercise, the High Commissioner said "all the principles embodied in modern international refugee law are to be found in the Shari'ah. Protection of refugees, their property and families, non-refoulement [forced return], the civilian character of asylum, voluntary repatriation – all are referred to in the Holy Koran."

In his foreword to "The Right to Asylum between Islamic Shari'ah and International Refugee Law: A Comparative Study," Guterres says the new book shows that more than any other historical source, Islamic law and tradition underpin the modern legal framework upon which UNHCR bases its global activities on behalf of tens of millions of uprooted people. This includes the right of everyone to seek and enjoy asylum from persecution as well as prohibitions against sending those in need of protection back into danger.

"Even though many of those values were a part of Arab tradition and culture even before Islam, this fact is not always acknowledged today, even in the Arab world," Guterres writes. "The international community should value this 14-century-old tradition of generosity and hospitality and recognize its contributions to modern law."

In his study, Professor Abu Al-Wafa describes how Islam and Arab tradition respect refugees, including non-Muslims; forbids forcing them to change their beliefs; avoids compromising their rights; seeks to reunite families; and guarantees the protection of their lives and property.

"Today, the majority of refugees worldwide are Muslims," Guterres writes. "This fact occurs at a time when the level of extremism – ethnic and religious – is on the rise around the globe, even in the world's most developed societies. Racism, xenophobia and populist fear-mongering manipulate public opinion and confuse refugees with illegal migrants and even terrorists.

We believe this book can make an important contribution in fighting prejudice and distortions about Islam.

– High Commissioner António Gutteres

"These attitudes have also contributed to misperceptions about Islam, and Muslim refugees have paid a heavy price. Let us be clear: refugees are not terrorists. They are first and foremost the victims of terrorism. This book reminds us of our duty to counter such attitudes."

The book also reflects UNHCR's close association with the member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which itself adopted in 1990 a Declaration on Human Rights in Islam stipulating that every human being fleeing persecution has the right to seek asylum and receive protection in another country.

In his foreword to the book, OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu notes that the book "demonstrates the equitable and tolerant rules Islamic Shari'ah applies to refugees and how it is keenly concerned with their welfare and interests, while confirming human integrity and man's right to a free, decent life."

Naif Arab University's Prof. al-Ghamedi, said the theme of the study "gains importance in the light of the increase in recent years in the numbers of refugees in Arab and Islamic countries."

Professor Ahmad At-Tayyib, rector of al-Azhar University in Cairo, noted that the Arab concept of asylum, or "ijarah," pre-dated Islam and was endorsed by Islamic Shari'ah "because it was one of the established good practices in their traditions and customs, involving noble manners and ethical values such as rescue of people in distress and protection of the oppressed."

Guterres also presented the book to Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, president of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority.

"We believe this book can make an important contribution in fighting prejudice and distortions about Islam," the High Commissioner told the prince. "It can help to show the true face of Islam."

Ayuh Rakyat Johor, Tamatkan Segera Keangkuhan & Ketakburan UMNO BN Johor

Keputusan pilih Salahuddin bagai 'menempah maut'

Saya sendiri akan 'all out' kalau Salahuddin mahu bertanding di Johor," katanya.

Tetapi begitulah kehendak Ilahi.

MCMC - too much power and autonomy for the boss

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 02:36 AM PST

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is among the government's largest entities and perhaps the most 'glamorous' in terms of scope of duty and the ranks of people who come under its business jurisdiction.

Ananda Krishnan of Maxis and Astro, Shazalli Ramly of Celcom, Digi, the Media Prima Group of Companies and Axiata, to name a few.

They are very much 'attached' to the MCMC regulatory body as to ensure hiccup-free services to their respective clients. As communications and multimedia business generates tonnes of money annually, relations with the MCMC must be kept intact.

MCMC is really in power. As it comes under direct supervisory of Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim, its most senior executives do report to him... or to ministry's sec-gen Kamaruddin Siarap.

But do Rais and Kamaruddin 'really are the bosses' to those few people at the helm of MCMC? And does Rais really keep track on the on-goings at the Commission?

So 'powerful and glamorous' is the MCMC that the executive chairman also holds the chief operating officer position. This '2 in 1' is not something recommendable in any government's agency and institution.

Why is such a situation?

I am not sure if the person in charge is given the power to hire and fire or being paid handsomely for that two positions but the management of the Commission is said to be in the hands of a few, including someone who recently was brought in from another Commission to deal with MCMC most important matters.

Important matters could be a say in issuing out contract to companies deemed close to the inner circle.... or other things.

Is it so difficult to find a COO among the MCMC top guns or someone from outside who has the knowledge and experience in communications and multimedia? I think its not a difficult task to find such a brain as there are abundant of them.

Power and authority should be put to a limit. Those in power, especially the appointed ones, should bear in mind that they are there for a temporary basis and sooner or later, others will take up their positions.

Or is this 'temporary' status that prompted them to wrest whatever opportunity at stake, knowing there won't be a second chance once they are out of the organisation?

I do not wish to comment any further as those at the top should understand the whole situation and evaluate it before it eats up on certain individuals.

There are times when the ones we appointed will in the end turn their back on us!

Bangkok: Famous Erawan Shrine / 4 Faced Buddha

Bangkok Trip: Famous Erawan Shrine (Day 3) – Erawan Shrine, also known as Thao Maha Brahma, or simply known as the Erawan 4 Faced Buddha is a famous little shrine that is located in the city centre. Many people know about this, especially Malaysian tourist. Every Buddhist who visits Bangkok will definitely go there to do a little prayers. I've went there before, 4 years ago and I just went again, last week. Haha.

Very simple, every visit to Bangkok will bring us to this 4 Faced Buddha. Even artists from Hong Kong will visit it too.

Bangkok: Famous Erawan Shrine

It's very cool is that this Four Faced Buddha is located in the city center, at Pratunam area and near to Central World shopping mall. Cab dropped us here, did some prayers, only then we head to shopping along this road as there's many shopping malls here. It's easy to reach here by BTS, and stop on Chitlom Station. The shrine is located by the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, at the intersection of Ratchaprasong.

Buddha's Face #1.

Buddha Face #2.

Buddha Face #3.

Buddha Face #4.

According to the history, this Erawn Shrine was built in 1956 as part of the government-owned Erawan Hotel to eliminate the bad karma believed caused by laying the foundations on the wrong date. A very funny fact is that you can find a replica if this shrine in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. =D

Bangkok: Talad Rot Fai – Retro Train Night Market

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 11:16 PM PST

Click here for more posts about my Bangkok Trip.

Bangkok Trip: Talad Rot Fai – Retro Train Night Market – I believe many visitor to Bangkok does not aware of this night market that's called Talad Rot Fai, included me until I found it on CNNGo website. Talad Rot Fai, also known as Talad Dek Naew or in English – the Train Market is a night market that features retro stuff, antiques, second hand clothing and also a hangout place for Thai's retro hipster.

"Talad" means market and "Rot Fai" means train in Thai which reflects the venue which is actually an abandoned train warehouse and tracks.

It was kinda hard to communicate with the taxi driver about this place even I showed him a map of the location, many of the taxi drivers are not from Bangkok itself and not really familiar with all of the road in Bangkok. I told him about Kamphaeng Phet MRT Station, somewhere near there then he brought us there. Sucking blood, he charged 250Baht for the trip.

Anyway, forget about the cab driver, he brought us there safe and sound. I was pretty worried it didn't open or not exist as I couldn't find much info about it on the Internet. When I saw the light and sound of Thai, I became excited and found many people going in and out of the "Talad Rot Fai" train night market.

Bangkok: Talad Rot Fai - Retro Train Night Market

The Talad Rot Fai is actually located near to Kamphaeng Phet MRT Station, so it's easier to take the MRT here and then you walk towards west of the station, which is also the way away from Chatuchak Weekend Market.

A little bit history about this train market is that it's started off 2 years back in 2010. It was just an abandoned warehouse and railway track and Rod's Antique rented the place to sell antique stuff. Rod's Antique was actually located near to Chatuchak Weekend Market. Then Rod's invited many vendors to sell stuff at here for free. When it was free, there's not much stalls and vendors, but once they started collecting rental, more and more vendors come in. Funny right.

This train market sells a lot of 2nd hand retro stuff, clothing, antique and has many modified Volkswagen van which then turned into a mini vehicle bar playing retro music, offering beer and other beverage. You can find some cool artsy futsy printed tee here as well as some nice retro home decor.

Mom dislike second hand clothing, but those clothing looks as good as new. I find this place quite interesting because it's a retro theme night market. Many youngster dress up in retro fashion too! What I like the most is the Volkswagen modified van which I feel it's very cool.

Deep in the warehouse is outlets of different antique shops including Rod's.

You may also grab a beer and sit at one of the outdoor bistro too. We walked for about 2 hours at there, explored, only then we headed back to the hotel.

Talad Rot Fai / Talak Dek Naew / Train Market is opens on Saturday and Sunday from 5pm. Get there as late as 8pm when all the stalls are out in full force.

To get to the Talad Rot Fai, take the MRT to Kampaeng Phet Station. Get out at exit 3 (Or Tor Gor Market) then cross the road and walk about 450 meters west on Kampaeng Phet Road, away from Chatujak Market. For a map (in Thai) click here.

Bekas Banduan Rogol Adik

Tindakan pantas polis berjaya menahan suspek beberapa jam kemudian. Ujian awal air kencingnya mendapati suspek positif pil kuda.

Open letter to the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia to help lobby for the Myanmar Muslims in Malaysia

Open letter to the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia to help lobby for the Myanmar Muslims in Malaysia

As a Minority Religious Group in Myanmar, Myanmar Muslims must try to made peace not only with the majority Bamas but with all the other Minority Ethnic Groups and Minority Religious Groups. We must not only engage with the people but with the government, military, opposition and all the democratic forces i.e. we must engage and try to work together with all the people on the both side of the political divide.

Some of the Muslims from Myanmar tried to migrate, temporarily or permanently: as refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented migrants and some with the Work Permits or Employment Passes.

But we are surprised that even in the Muslim Dominant countries like Malaysia, we are discriminated unfairly when compared to other migrants. We understand that most of the governments need to maintain a cordial diplomatic relations with Myanmar Government for the economic reasons. And also understand that they could not freely open the door to Myanmar Migrants only as there are other races and religious groups who would jump the bandwagon to migrate into your country.

But when they could welcome other Muslim Migrants like: Acehnese, Indonesians, Southern Thais, Southern Pilipinos, Bosnians etc but I am sad to see that they have the heart to neglect the Muslims from Myanmar.

I still remember the Former Deputy Home Minister late Tan Sri Megat Junid Megat Ayoub's statement in the Malaysian newspapers, about 25 yrs ago, that Rohingyas were not recognized as refugees, must be arrested as the illegal immigrants, must be subject to work in the prisons to earn for their deportation fees. And one Former PM went to Thailand and spoke in the Bangkok Post's interview to push back the Rohingya boat people into the deep Indian Sea and not to allow them to land on ASEAN shores.

So please kindly lobby with the Malaysian Government, ASEAN and OIC to kindly change their hostile attitude on the Muslim Migrants from Myanmar.
