Just visit Myanmar, no need bring Suu Kyi to KL!

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 08:31 AM PDT

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will be on a two-day official visit to Myanmar beginning tomorrow. Together with wife Rosmah, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and several ministers, it marks a new era of diplomatic and political relation between the two Asean members.

So, its part of the job of any leaders to find ways in fostering good understanding and cooperation between nations and governments. Nothing to shout about.

However, weeks before the scheduled visit, news from the PMO was rather alarming.

Someone claiming to be a close aide of Najib was contemplating on arranging a visit to Kuala Lumpur for Burmese democratic icon Aung San Suu Kyi.

What a rotten idea it is.

Bringing Suu Kyi to Malaysia will not augur well in cementing our ties with Myanmar since it was established in 1957. And I dont think Yangoon would like to see us interfering in its domestic affairs.

But the officer was so proud and convinced that such a move will make Malaysia 'rise on the occassion' as the one promoting democracy and stability to the region. And of course, its a boost for Najib.

What a load of craps!

My words to this young Dato - you dont know what you are doing. Its not part of your area of responsibility. If you know nothing about foreign policy and the wisdom of maintaining good diplomatic tools, better leave it to the experts.

By the way, do you know who will benefit most if Suu Kyi comes to Malaysia? The Opposition, of course! Anwar Ibrahim, who all this while claims of equating the credentials of Suu Kyi and Jose Rizal, will lucre from it.

So, just stay where you are...

[Bergambar] Kisah Budak Perempuan Dipenuhi Bulu Seluruh Badan

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 10:55 AM PDT

Bachok: Hampir seluruh tubuh budak perempuan berusia empat tahun ini dipenuhi bulu tebal hingga mukanya berjambang.

Malah, suaranya garau.

'Saya ingatkan kambing, tetapi rupa-rupanya lembaga aneh. Selepas melihatnya, lembaga itu hilang,'
katanya.

Asliza berkata, kali pertama sampel darah Nurul Afida diambil ketika berusia dua bulan, namun setelah dua tahun menunggu keputusan, pihak hospital memaklumkan sampel darah anaknya itu hilang.

The Running Dog

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 06:22 AM PDT

Wow, after all my complains about the heat wave that we've been going through, it finally rains this morning. I would have called it bliss if I didn't have to wake up and head out to work. But the rain was really appreciated. At least I can now officially stop melting for a while. In fact, It's actually even raining right now as I write this post :D

The day has been a pretty boring one, which I'm actually grateful for seeing as how I had a horribly stressful time last week. I think my blood pressure tripled in the space of that one horrendously awful week. I'm going to enjoy whatever 'boringness' the week will offer cos you never know when some new project will drop on my lap and give me grieve.

I've missed two days of running due to a recovering busted leg from falling in the drain during last Sunday's evening run. Yes, you read right, I fell in the drain ... hahaha! If you ask my two best buddies, they'll probably tell you I have a history of falling in drains.

There I was running along in my usual route and had to cross this drain. Normally I'd just jump over it but this time, I don't know what overcame me and I just stepped on that wooden plank and the next thing I knew I was in pain in a three feet drain.

Good thing I didn't suffer any serious injuries. I sustained two swollen toes and a twisted ... urrrmmm ... nerve? vein? something along the top of the foot that hurt like hell when I bend the ankle. Thank god, after two days of resting, the foot is getting back to normal and I can resume my running tomorrow instead of going rogue status with runs.

Speaking of running, I wanted to post about this quite a while back but was so darned lazy. During the recently concluded Brooks Half Marathon, there was this stray dog that amazed me cos he (or was it as she? I never looked) ran along with the all runners side by side and ended up in the Bukit Jalil stadium doing a lap to the finish.

I don't know if the fellow actually ran the entire 21KM with all the other runners cos I only saw him running alongside me up till the 6KM mark and lost sight of him. The fellow, though running on three legs (he had one bad leg, poor thing) completely outpaced me after that ... hahaha! All I know is I saw him making a lap around the stadium with some of the other finishers looking like he had a great time :D

The lil fellow happily doing his lap of honour alongside the other runners ...
The best part is, everyone irrespective of race or religion was happy to have him along. I would have taken the fellow home but Pebbles would have made a fuss if I did ... Imagine, if I brought the fellow home, he could run with the wife and me every evening :D

I wonder what happened to him though. I just hope the poor fellow is alright and will be a regular feature at races around Bukit Jalil in the future.

HAHAHA

TODAY, Parliament ends 10.30pm. At times like these, the following and "yang sewaktu dengannya" could go a long way to make the long day, shorter... I copy paste this from HERE

Lost and Found

The teenager lost a contact lens while playing basketball in his driveway. After a brief, fruitless search, he gave up. His mother took up the cause and within minutes found the lens.
"How did you do that?" he asked.
"We weren't looking for the same thing," she explained. "You were looking for a small piece of plastic. I was looking for $150."

The Joy of Texting

Not everyone has mastered the art of texting. Case in point:
Mom: Stop at dollar store on way home and get lunch maggots.
Me: Lunch maggots?
Mom: Baffles.
Mom: Baggies.
Mom: Ziploc lunch Baggies.
Mom: Spell-check is not helping me.
Mom: By the way, this is Dad.

Curious Kids

Our six-year-old daughter, Terra, has a need to ask questions … lots of questions. Finally, one day, my wife had had it.
"Have you ever heard that curiosity killed the cat?" my wife asked.
"No," replied Terra.
"Well, there was a cat, and he was very inquisitive. And one day, he looked into a big hole, fell in, and died!"
Terra was intrigued: "What was in the hole?

Special Pie

I was looking at the pies offered by a nearby café. They had cherry, apple, berry, peach, and Herman's.
"What type of pie is Herman's?" I asked the waiter.
"Apple," he said.
"Then why is it called Herman's pie?"
"Because Herman called in to reserve it."

Someone sent me the following post ages ago and I found it this evening while clearing my inbox.

Why Men and Women are Different - Author Unknown

Have you ever quite figured out why the se**al urges of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

FOR EXAMPLE:

One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed.

Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says, 'I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me.'

I said, 'WHAT??!! What was that?!'

So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear...

'You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man.'

She responded to my puzzled look by saying, 'Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?'

Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep.

The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take, so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said, 'Lets get a pair for each outfit.'

We went on to the jewellery department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you... she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis.

I think I threw her for a loop when I said, 'That's fine, honey.' She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement.

Smiling with excited anticipation, she finally said, 'I think this is all dear, let's go to the cashier.'

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, 'No honey, I don't feel like it.'

Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled, 'WHAT?'

I then said, 'Honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman.'

And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, 'Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?'

Apparently I'm not having *** tonight either... but at least that she knows I'm smarter than her. :-)

MB Selangor: Kos Ubahsuai Pejabat Hasan Ali Paling Tinggi & Tak Ikut Prosidur Yang Betul

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 08:08 AM PDT

katanya.

Pada persidangan DUN Selangor minggu lalu, Mohamed Azmin membangkitkan mengenai perbelanjaan berjumlah RM300,000 bagi mengubahsuai pejabat Hasan ketika menjadi exco Selangor dua tahun lalu.

Hasan Ali rendahkan martabatnya

KUALA LUMPUR: Timbalan Presiden PKR Azmin Ali terkejut dan tidak menyangka Pengasas Jalur Tiga (Jati) Datuk Dr Hasan Ali sanggup mengeluarkan kenyataan fitnah menyerang peribadinya.

Enggan menjawab dakwaan Hasan, Azmin sebaliknya menganggap Hasan telah merendahkan martabat dirinya sendiri apabila gagal menjelaskan perkara sebenar mengenai dakwaan pengubahsuaian pejabat sehingga mencecah RM300,000.

Write Better

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 04:33 AM PDT

This post is specially for my A-level students and IB students who will be sitting for their exams in May.

1. Avoid alliteration.

2. Never use a long word when a diminutive one will do. In my classes, I remind students to say the most in the fewest possible words.

3. Know the parts of speech and use each correctly.

4. Avoid fallacies.

5. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.

6. Never split an infinitive.

7. Avoid contractions.

8. Never use 'will' unless you know for sure it will happen.

9. Never generalize.

10. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."

11. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.

12. Don't be superfluous.

13. Be specific.

14. Understatement is always best.

15. One-word sentences? Eliminate.

16. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.

17. Avoid the passive voice.

18. Avoid colloquialisms.

19. Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.

20. Who needs rhetorical questions?

21. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

22. Never use double negatives.

23. Capitalize every sentence and remember always end it with a full stop.

24. Do not put statements in the negative form.

25. Verbs have to agree with their subjects.

26. Proofread carefully.

27. Avoid repetition by rereading and editing.

28. A writer must not shift your point of view.

29. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.

30. Never end with a preposition.

31. Don't overuse exclamation marks.

32. Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided.

33. Never end a sentence with a verb.

34. Avoid mixing metaphors.

35. Avoid trendy locutions that sound flaky.

36. Indefinite pronouns and uncountable nouns use singular verbs.

37. Use the correct idiom.

38. Remember the 5C's of writing - concreteness, conciseness, correctness, clarity and coherence.

39. Remember your topic/thesis statements and supporting statements.

40. Last but not least, avoid cliches like the plague. Seek viable alternatives.

K.I.S.S. Keep it short and simple.

Setelah Di"boo", Nak Tutup Malu, Timbalan Menteri Cuba Menipu

-mk

Wee Ka Siong dakwa nyaris ditumbuk

Empire Cut Dress: Mission Accomplished

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 02:58 AM PDT

Rule Numero Uno for Choosing a Tailor:

Take into consideration is your intuition.

Feel good, then go. No good feeling, no go.

Google is still the best invention of the 21st century. Can't thank Sergey Brin & Larry Page more.

(They don't have anything to do with empire cut dress, so…)

So my quest for a tailor who does (nice) empire cut dress took me to Bangunan MARA. It's really not an easy quest. Yes, a bunch of tailors claim they do empire cut. But there's a line that separates "can do" and "can do well" heh heh :p

So I almost gave up. Only problem is, I didn't know how. There must be a Cinderella out there. The Prince just have to keep on looking…

Beria brainstorm semalam pikir kat mana lagi ada tailor… lalu terfikir hahhh MARA dengan Pertama Complex! So I Googled. And through some blogs I found out that there's a bunch of cheap tailors there.

Kemas. Sebelah patung tu ada satu lagi patung pakai chiffon beaded kain duyung. Cantik jahitan dia. Kemas. Baju pengantin sebenarnya tu.

Ada gantung satu lagi empire dress tapi stail ada plaits banyak-banyak. Cantik jahitan dia. Kemas. Ada baju kurung moden beaded chiffon. Cantik jahitan dia. Kemas.

Harga tempahan untuk baju hijau tu… RM200++ katanya. Baju lain-lain? RMxxx, yyy, zzz katanya.

Boleh ke siap awal May? Boleh, katanya.

Memang jodoh lah.

Tuan kedai nye pun cantik. Comel je. ;)

Image

 (hatiku berbunga)

Go back to Rule Numero Uno, yes, I DID feel good about it.

So done deal. The rest is history.

Yang lain, so-so lah. OK la, not bad. Kan.

Tapi kebanyakannya memang so-so lah.

But girls (and boys), when I say "cheap" I didn't mean like RM30 for a pair of full-lined baju kurung la ekh. It means "highly reasonable for the quality of workmanship". Kalau nak kualiti macam Rizman Ruzaini tapi nak bayar RM30 untuk baju kurung ada lining, kat tengah-tengah Key Ell pulak, tu namanya ibarat menunggu bulan jatuh ke riba lah ye anak-anak. :p

So. You can check her out if you want to. Of course, what I just said is purely based on my first impression, and what I saw at the shop. For now, I gotta say I'm happy. Let's wait for the actual outcome early May, insyaallah.  Hopefully my dresses turn out ok. Insyaallah. I have faith hehe. Do come back for a review ok. Please mark your calendar hehe.

Want details?

Who? Where?

Eima @Dalina Design  |  No. 41 Tingkat 1 Pasar Rakyat, Bangunan MARA, KL.

Harga:

Baju kurung biasa / pahang:  RM50

Baju kurung pesak gantung / kurung moden: RM60

Kebaya: RM80

Dress cutting biasa: RM70

Dress empire cut: RM90

Patchwork: RM50 ke atas

(Semua harga tanpa lining. Kalau ada lining, harga kali dua).

p.s.: Counting my blessings.

Muslims need to avoid extremism to get a moderate middle path leading to justice

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 01:50 AM PDT

Most of the Muslims generally need to practice moderation according to the following Quranic verses –i.e. verse 143 of the second chapter – al-Baqarah. Lord Buddha had also taught his followers to take a middle path, avoiding the extremism.

Surah Al-Baqara

Thus We have appointed you a middle nation, that ye may be witnesses against mankind, and that the messenger may be a witness against you. And We appointed the qiblah which ye formerly observed only that We might know him who followeth the messenger, from him who turneth on his heels. In truth it was a hard (test) save for those whom Allah guided. But it was not Allah's purpose that your faith should be in vain, for Allah is Full of Pity, Merciful towards mankind. (143)

..

Many Muslims around the world are now are familiar with the clarion call to be moderate and to practise moderationModeration is something in the middle, as equitable balance, as the opposite of all sorts of extremismAccording to the above verse 143 of the– al-Baqarah, Muslims are characterised as ummah wasa and, are held accountable as witnesses over the rest of mankind while the Prophet in turn acts as a witness over them.

Ummah wasa has been translated as:

  1. "an Ummat justly balanced "by Abdullah Yusuf Ali,
  2. "a middle nation" by Marmaduke Pickthal and
  3. "a community of the middle way", by Muhammad Asad,
  4. "justice (adl)" in a number of narrations of the Prophetic sayings. Justice in Arabic connotes both al-adalah and al-istiqamah.

Al-istiqamah = "one's being steadfast and partial to truth",

Al-adalah consists of al-itidal , or adl and basically signifies "being in a right balance", pointing to "a state intermediate between two opposing conditions, whether quantitatively (fi kamm) or qualitatively (fi kayf)."

Hence, justice, as al-Sayyid al-Sharif Ali al-Jurjn, is "an intermediate position between the two extremes of excess and deficiency".

In that sense, therefore, to be just is to not transgress one's limit nor fall short of it.

And as such, justice epitomises virtue just as the extreme typify vices.

The aforementioned, however, is only a general outline or a formal structure of justice qua moderation as conceived of in Islam.

In order that such an outline or structure not be reduced to mere slogan or pure rhetoric, one needs to be clear and definite of its contents or substance.

And this, to my mind, has largely to do with what should be identified or regarded as extreme.

In this regard, it is equally important, as rendered explicit by the foregoing definitions, that one be cognisant that in almost all contexts or cases of extremes not only take the form of excess but also that of deficiency.

For an extreme of one form normally breeds an extreme of another sort.

Hasil Pasir Selangor Naik Dari RM12.5 juta Kepada RM32.5 juta Semasa PR Memerintah

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 01:57 AM PDT

-selangorku

Umno-led gov't invited Lynas to build. 4X cheaper ok

Posted: 27 Mar 2012 12:27 AM PDT

In an article in The New York Times written by KEITH BRADSHER and published on March 8, 2011, it stated:
Nicholas Curtis, Lynas's executive chairman, said it would cost four times as much to build and operate such a refinery in Australia, which has much higher labor and construction costs. Australia is also home to an environmentally minded and politically powerful Green party.

Despite the potential hazards, the Malaysian government was eager for investment by Lynas, even offering a 12-year tax holiday. If rare earth prices stay at current lofty levels, the refinery will generate $1.7 billion a year in exports starting late next year, equal to nearly 1 percent of the entire Malaysian economy.

Today, The Malaysian Insider reported the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili as saying, "They (Lynas Corp) are the investors coming here. We are here to invite investors, of course, we are here to facilitate, but we are not going to work for you. You have to go and get (the permission). You must take (your) waste out of (this) area... It is up to you, I am not going to help you."

Indeed, Malaysia is a cheap country for Lynas.

It has already saved four times even before building the refinery!

On top of that, it gets to have a 12-year tax holiday! What more can an investor ask for?
