Smart Advice for Life

Smart Advice for Life

Smart Advice for Life

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 10:15 AM PST

Learn to think on different levels. Consider four people talking about what we are made of. The first person says that we are made of flesh, bone, and blood. The second person says, "Actually, we are mostly made of water". The third says, "Well, if you really want to know, we are mostly empty space". The fourth says "No, we are really only light – just pure light!"

Which is correct? All of them are correct, it just depends on the level you are thinking at. Similarly, there can be ten purposes of life. Many questions in life are posed as "either, or" questions and most often the answer is both!

The purpose of life is to.............

1. Share Your Love. If you truly pursue this purpose, all the others will follow naturally! Love everyone, but start with those closest to you.

2. Give to Others. We are here to serve others, and not live wholly for ourselves. Make a difference in the world.

3. Increase in Light. Our spirits and bodies can literally flow with light. Increase your light bearing capacity by following the truth you know.

4. Learn Wisdom. Read the best books and learn all you can. Pursue wisdom not as an end it itself, but to better serve others with your increased knowledge and talents.

5. Accept Yourself. Flow with who you are. Your birth, parents, and country all have a reason. Accept your purpose and your inclinations. Feel and flow with your emotions.

6. Enjoy the Mystery. Wonder at the beauty of life. Don't try to figure everything out intellectually. Accept the world as a child does.

7. Create Your Reality. In this sphere, you can choose what you do. Be bold and decide what you really want. Move toward your dreams with vision and power!

8. Follow the Spirit. Trust that inner voice that leads and prompts you. As you listen, you will gain greater inspiration in all daily activities.

9. Revel in the Present. Find joy and engagement in every activity. Recognize your point of power in present action! Come to know the illusion of time.

10. Experience Joy. The ultimate purpose of life is happiness, but happiness comes easier when pursued indirectly.

Notice that nowhere in the top ten is the purpose, "Make as much money as possible." However, wealth can help you by freeing up your focus to pursue the top ten.

Pursue the first nine, and the tenth (joy) will flow automatically to you. Abundance will flow to you also.

K’Naan – Is Anybody Out There

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 09:29 AM PST

[Nelly Furtado]
I don't wanna be left
In this war tonight
Am I alone in this fight?
Is anybody out there?

Don't wanna be left left in this world behind
Say you'll run to my side

[K'naan]
Something 'bout mary
Never won a pageant
Never felt pretty
Never looked like cameron
Diaz was her last name
Always been abandoned
Keep your head up

Baby girl this is your anthem
There goes hannah
Showin' off her banner
Rocking that crown
Make them boys go bananas
When you're insecure about yourself
It's a fact
You can point a finger
But there's three pointing back
I can see her crying out, yeah
Is there anybody out there?

She's really counting on your love
Still struggling uphill
But you act like you don't care
Right now she could really use a shoulder
Hanging onto the edge til it's over
She's crying for your love tonight
Loneliest heart to survive, she said

[Nelly Furtado]
I don't wanna be left
In this war tonight
Am I alone in this fight?
Is anybody out there?

Don't wanna be left left in this world behind
Say you'll run to my side
Is anybody out there? yeah, yeah, yeah

Is anybody out there?
(somebody, anybody)

[K'naan]
His name was adam
When his mom had him
Dad was a phantom never took a look at him
Grew up mad and antisocial

Hated outdoors, always in playing madden
Adam was lonely
Drugs were the only
Way out of his own life
Now he's slowly losing his fire
Close to retire
With one last hope he puts his arms up higher
I can see him crying out, yeah
Is anybody out there?

He's really counting on your love
Still struggling uphill
But you act like you don't care
Right now he could really use a shoulder
Hanging onto the edge til it's over
He's crying for your love tonight
Loneliest heart to survive, he said

[Nelly Furtado]
I don't wanna be left
In this war tonight
Am I alone in this fight?
Is anybody out there?

Don't wanna be left left in this world behind
Say you'll run to my side
Is anybody out there?

[Bridge]
If you feel the way I feel
Like you've been talking to yourself
Well this one's for everyone who's felt invisible
Lonely in a crowded room
Searching for someone like you
Can't do it all alone (no one can baby)
Can't do it all alone (no one should baby)
Is anybody out there?
(somebody, anybody)
Is anybody out there?
I'm right here for your
Is anybody out there?

[Outro]
I don't wanna be left
In this war tonight
Am I alone in this fight?
Is anybody out there?

Don't wanna be left left in this world behind
Say you'll run to my side
Is anybody out there? yeah, yeah, yeah
I don't wanna do it all alone
I need your love to take me home
No one said you should be all alone
I'm right here
Is anybody out there?

Alyssa Reid feat P Reign – Alone Again

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 09:08 AM PST

[Alyssa Reid]
Til now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?

[P Reign]
I sit back and reminisce
It hurts to think about it all
We was on top of the world
Whoever though that we would fall?

Standing by the phone
Alone, ignoring your call
I feel like spider man
You got me flying off of the wall

I ain't wanna leave
But still I had to go
Cause what good a rainbow
Without my pot of gold?

And now your beds empty
And your pillow's cold
You never realized the love
Until my love was gone
Yeah

[Alyssa Reid]
When I said I could move on and go
You said I'm weak and it shows
I couldn't go on without you

Now I'm sitting in this house alone
Wondering why I left home
And I'm hoping that you know that

Til now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
(Til I met you)
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?

The phone call
Can you stop the free fall?
Can you be the reason
I can see beyond the lies
If I keep holding on?

I hear you
(Hear you)
Can you stop the screaming?
(Screaming)
Did you stop believing?
I could feel you letting go
I can't be alone tonight

When I said I could move on and go
You said I'm weak and it shows
I couldn't go on without you

Now I'm sitting in this house alone
Wondering why I left home
And I'm hoping that you know that

Til now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
(Til I met you)
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?
How do I get you alone?

I wonder where you are tonight
No answer on the telephone
And the night goes by so very slow
Woah, I hope that it won't end though
Alone…

And I'm hoping that you know that

Til now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
(Til I met you)
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?

Til now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
(Til I met you)
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?
How do I get you alone?

Terima Padah Akibat Tidur Dengan Isteri Orang

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 10:29 AM PST

Setelah terjadi pukul memukul, Tholib mengeluarkan sebilah parang.

Sekian.

Nurul Izzah Anwar
Ahli Parlimen Lembah Pantai
7 Mac 2012

=====================================================================

Nota Kaki:

Walaubagaimanapun, pengerusi mesyuarat (YBhg Dato' Hj Bakaruddin Othman) enggan memberi arahan tersebut ("The reports will not be given").

  • Detailed geological survey report, establishing accurate terrain and slope measurements
  • Detailed soil structure report over the proposed development site
  • Detailed and accurate soil erosion and potential landslide points resulting from proposed development plans
  • Geohazard mitigation measures to address risks
  • Geohazard mitigation measure-monitoring requirements that are relevant over the long term
  • Details of both JPPKSAS and DBKL planning department's technical compliance requirements, including effective monitoring of compliance and penalties for breach of such requirements by the developer
  • Hydrological report.

BN Bererti "Bankrapkan Negara"

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 07:01 AM PST

BN - Bankrapkan Negara

-malaysia-chronicle

[Video] NFC Cuba Merasuah Polis, Shamsubaharin Serah Bukti Kepada SPRM

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 06:02 AM PST

Skandal projek lembu: Shamsubahrin serah bukti

Walau bagaimanapun, Mohamad Salleh menafikan dakwaan berkenaan. -mk

Sikap Berat Sebelah SKMM Tidak Ambil Tindakan Ke Atas Blog UMNO Dikecam

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 04:39 AM PST

-mk

The River of Difficulties

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 02:35 AM PST

A very tired traveler came to the banks of a river.

There was no bridge by which he could cross. It was winter, and the surface of the river was covered with ice. It was getting dark, and he wanted to reach the other side while there was enough light to see. He debated about whether or not the ice would bear his weight.

Finally, after much hesitation and fear, he got down on his knees and began very cautiously to creep across the surface of the ice. He hoped that by disturbing the weight of his body, the ice would be less apt to break under the load.

After he made his slow and painful journey about halfway across the river, he suddenly heard the sound of singing behind him. Out of the dusk, there came a 4-horse load of coal driven by a man singing merrily as he went to his carefree way. Here was the traveler, fearfully inching his way on his hands and knees. And there, as if whisked along by the winter's wind, went the driver, his horses, his sled, and the heavy load of coal over the same river!

The story illustrates how many of us go through life.

Some stand on the bank of decisions unable to make up their minds about the course to take. Others stand on the banks trying to muster enough courage to cross over to the other side of the task or problem encountered.

On the other hand, some individuals crawl and creep through life for fear of thin ice.

Their faith is not strong enough to hold them up. Still there are those who whisked along whistling as they go. Their faith is UNSHAKABLE.

When we face the river of difficulties, we do not have to fear, nor do we creep through life. God has promised to help, and with God's help we can merrily make our way to the other side safely.

Pakatan Gesa Najib Lepaskan Jawatan Menteri Kewangan

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 02:36 AM PST

"Tambahan pula, Menteri Kewangan Kedua merumitkan keadaan. Kita perlukan Menteri Kewangan penuh tanpa beban tugasan lain," kenyataan tersebut dipetik.

Pada sidang media sama, Pengarah Strategi Keadilan, Rafizi Ramli menegaskan tawaran Pakatan Rakyat untuk melaksanakan Akta Gaji Minima sekira berjaya menawan Putrajaya dalam Pilihan Raya Umum ke-13.

"Bukan sekadar dasar gaji minima RM1,100, Pakatan Rakyat meletakkan sasaran pendapatan isi rumah bulanan di Malaysia ialah RM4,000.

"Umum mengetahui pasaran kerja dipenuhi buruh murah asing.

-KD

Kopi C @ China House – Cafe & Gallery In Heritage Shophouse

Kopi C @ China House – Cafe & Gallery In Heritage Shophouse – Penang has many colonial-style shophouses which are very beautiful and retro located in the heart of UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town. Nowadays, many of these shophouses are refurbished and converted into heritage hotel, inn, cafe, gallery and gift shop.

China House is a good use of colonial-style shophouses converted into a shophouse with gallery, cafe, restaurants, retail and a place to chill and relax with your friends. In China House, there's many different section, one section is the Kopi C (known as Kopi Cine) which serves nice coffee and freshly baked cakes and desserts.

Initially, I was thinking of having a nice afternoon tea at Kopi Cine, Muntri Street, later only found out that it has moved into China House. So I went to search for the China House. It's located on Beach Street, before the old fire station. The China House is linked together with the shophouse at the back, which reveal a long and narrow interior.

The interior of Kopi C is very retro, blended old Penang's  decorations with Chinese & Western-style. I ordered their in-house special cake – Tiramisu (RM12/slice) and a slice of Mushroom Quiche (RM8/slice) which is a pie filled with mushroom and onion.

With some soft music, Kopi C is indeed a nice hangout spot in the afternoon, for good cakes, good chat and good environment. Hueisean loves the place a lot, and the Tiramisu too! Besides housing the Kopi C, China House also houses a gallery at the 2nd level, an open space for event, a Chinese restaurant, a courtyard, a reading zone and also a bar with live music at night.

Updates here & there…

I was offered a few free places for the children of poor families under my care to attend a youth camp organised by a club in Ipoh. The other youths are charged RM200 per pax, which the children of my clients wouldn't be able to afford.

4 of the children attended the camp last year. So this year I was to look for other children, minimum 15 years of age. I didn't ask the children who are staying far from Ipoh, as they'd have problems coming to Ipoh early in the morning, and I won't be able to help them either as I'd be busy on the days when the youth camp will be held. I could only get hold of 2 of the children under our sponsorship programme. However, one said he couldn't join as he'd be participating in a football tournament that weekend. In the end I only managed to get Lin's youngest child who is in form 3. I offered the place to the older brother as well (he's in form 5) but he has never been interested in such activities.

When I went to visit Lin at home on Monday to get her & her daughter to sign the form for the camp, the brother wasn't even home. Although it is exam week at school, right after school, after lunch at home, off he went fishing at a nearby pond. That's his favourite past-time. When Lin asked him if he wasn't going to study, he just showed his mom the book he brought along. He was going to study while fishing!

His younger sister however, was the opposite. She loves joining activities like this camp, and was ecstatic when I told her we may have flying-fox activities during this year's Family Day. Yeah, my kind of gal there… ;-)

Remember Shidah? The foreign lady married to a local and whose husband passed away recently? You may have read about her movements being constrained by her in-laws and since she didn't want them to know about her HIV, she was having problems coming to the hospital on her own for her appointments. Her appointment was supposed to be last week, but she simply defaulted her appointment just like that. I told her to just inform them that she had an appointment at the hospital for whatever ailments without informing them of her HIV, but she simply didn't have the guts.

I think probably last week the staff nurse called her after she missed her appointment and scolded her. 2 days ago, Shidah texted me, asking if she could meet me at the hospital on Wednesday. I thought she must have fixed an appointment with the nurse. I wasn't on duty today, but since it's difficult to meet up with Shidah, I decided to go to see her.

When I got to the hospital, I checked with the nurses, and they themselves weren't aware that Shidah was planning to come today. Apparently the nurse herself didn't want to fix an appointment for her as Shidah herself could not give an affirmative answer if she'd be able to come for her appointment. So the nurse just told her to make sure she comes on a Wednesday, not on any other days. And that was why Shidah decided to come today.

I was actually wondering what excuse Shidah gave to her in-laws to come to the hospital. Did she finally tell them the truth? Or did she come up with any other stories?

So yes, I finally got to see Shidah today, the first time ever since her husband passed away. She had told her mother-in-law she needed to go to the hospital for some back pains she was having.

Initially Shidah gave me the impression that her in-laws wouldn't let her go back to her home country to be with her family, but today when I asked her straight in the face, she admitted she herself doesn't want to go back to her country. In fact, she wants to go on living in Malaysia, but she doesn't want to stay with her in-laws as her movements are constrained, and she doesn't want them to find out about her HIV.

Now she says, her in-laws just want her around so they could get her late husband's EPF & Socso. I told Shidah that under the faraid, her mother-in-law does have a right to her late husband's properties even if Shidah had any children. According to Shidah, her sister-in-law told her that if she doesn't want to stay with the family, they will not support her. Hmmm… earlier on Shidah said they wouldn't let her stay on her own, now she says they won't support her if she stays on her own. So it's all about money after all eh?

Anyway, she wanted to stay on her own, but when I asked how she was going to pay for all the rental etc, she couldn't answer me. She didn't have any savings of her own. I gave her another option – that she stays at a shelter home temporarily until she settles all her problem and until she can get herself a job to support herself.

Shidah seemed interested. Her only concern was if she could still renew her visa once it expires later this year. When her husband was still around, he'd bring her to renew her visa every year, as she still did not qualify to apply for PR. I'm not well versed with all the visa applications and renewals, so I didn't dare answer her question on that matter. However, I told her I could help her if she wanted to stay at the shelter home but she must be sure of herself and that she mustn't give me too short a notice if and when she decides to go to the shelter home.

Whatever it is, the next move is hers, not mine…

While I was getting ready to go to the hospital this morning, a text message came in from Mrs K. About  2 weeks ago Mr & Mrs K met with an accident (they were on their motorbike) with another motorist. The other fellow involved in the accident is still in coma, while Mr & Mrs K, although back home, are on MC.  With their salary being based on day to day basis, being on MC only means less or no income for them this month. No, this time Mrs K didn't mention anything about the need for money, but although I may be a bit tough on them, when they really need help, I will try my best to help.

Am trying to slot in a visit to their home soon to assess their situation before deciding on the next course of action.

Shanghai: Dinner, East Nanjing Lu Pedestrian Street, Street Food & The Bund

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 11:05 PM PST

Click here to read more about my China Trip.

China Trip – Shanghai: Dinner, East Nanjing Lu Pedestrian Street, Street Food & The Bund (Day 3) - The Apple Store at Nanjing East Road was really awesome, but then we got hungry after checking out of the Apple Store, hungry of Apple products, and also hungry of food too! It's time to hunt for some real Shanghai food on the famous East Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. Shanghai food initially was very cool in my mind, but then, it's not as delicious as I expected.

We dinnered at a Shanghai restaurant, serving Shanghainese food, we ate Xiao Long Bao, some very oily vegetable with pork, spicy mapo toufu and steamed rice. Well, Xiao Long Bao did taste better than ours, but the other dishes were special, yet weird, because of too oily and spicy. Alright, dinner done but not super awesome.

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao soup dumpling.

Spicy Mapo Toufu.

Oily cabbage fried with pork slices.

We went to tour the famous East Nanjing Road Pedestrian Shopping Street, it's a very cool shopping street with historical Shanghainese building which blends Western architecture with Chinese culture. You can see huge Chinese signboard on Western-style building. If you watch movie about old-Shanghai where there's many nightclub and supper happenings, this is the street. But now, there's no nightclub anymore, it's a whole stretch of shopping retail outlets. It's still very happenings, and beautiful at night when spotlight shines on the building.

Beautiful Shanghai East Nanjing Road.

The walking street, dedicated for pedestrian, designed for walking.

Street community karaoke going on.

There's the music man.

There's the conductor with the Chinese song lyric.

At the end of East Nanjing Road.

Some very stupid thing occurred at the East Nanjung Road was that there's 2 Chinese girls tried to scam us. First, they asked us about directions to People's Park, then we said we don't know; then they asked whether are we students on travel to Shanghai, we said yes, later then they wanted to join us to walk around the place, like trying to be friendly to us. It's just felt very wrong and weird because one must always beware of scam in China. We ignore and rejected them then they walked away with a "failed" face. After checking online, it's actually the coffee scam, which always is 2 girls approaching young tourist, especially college students, and they will bring you to a coffee shop, where they will order some expensive drinks, end up paying hundreds of dollar for cheap drinks. So, beware of this. We actually came across 3 different pairs of girls at there. Haha, they really failed on scamming us.

Actually there's nothing much to shop at there for us, there's departmental stores, clothing, footwear, and more, which are pretty normal to us. It's just walking around, looking at people and buildings. Things are not cheap at there too. Another thing is, you will be annoyed by the people standing outside of sportwear shop like Niki & Adidas, offering you some cheap fake shoes with a piece of catalog paper. Very annoying, but just ignore them and they won't bother you anymore.

A beggar on the floor.

Since it's still early, it's only 10.30pm when we walked the whole stretch of Nanjing East Road, we walked to the famous riverside – The Bund to see the skyline of Pudong Shanghai. We walked pass many colonial Western-style building along the way and it's quiet. Unfortunately, the sad thing was the lights at the skyscrapers were off at that time although the skyline of Shanghai's Pudong area is really awesome. So, we planned to visit The Bund at the next day.

Walking along the quiet street.

The skyline of Shanghai's Pudong area, awesome but then not perfect without the light on at the Pearl TV Tower.

While on the way back, we found some street food stalls, selling BBQ food and fried noodle. I bought a chicken wing and a stick of mutton. Well, it tasted, BBQ, not really very interesting to me, but the locals and the caucasian like it.

Ustaz Dituduh Cium Remaja Lelaki

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 12:02 AM PST

-SH

Altantuya murder: Motive 'not essential', says clown

Altantuya judgment: Murder motive 'not essential'

The judge in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial did not allude to the motive behind the killing of the Mongolian woman by two police officers in his written judgment, which was released recently following his verdict two years ago.

The Shah Alam High Court judge Mohd Zaki Md Yasin said in his 70-page judgment, "Whatever the motive was, it is a matter of law that the motive, although relevant, has never been the essential to constitute murder."

razak baginda acquitted 311008 09He however noted that one of the three accused, Abdul Razak Baginda (right) who was a close confidant of then deputy premier Najib Razak, may have had a motive to murder Altantuya as she was blackmailing him, but added it cannot be the basis to call for the political analyst's defence.

Abdul Razak was acquitted without his defence being called.

Malaysia after regime change - PAS and Islam

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 09:03 PM PST

As Malaysia prepares for its 13th general elections, due no later than April 2013, the long-standing competitive authoritarian regime will face one of its most difficult tests. The 2008 elections dealt a surprise blow to the incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN), and ever since, Prime Minister Najib's government has struggled to protect its now-fragile majority. After four years of renewed opposition activism, rumours of defection from UMNO (the United Malays National Organisation), and the recent acquittal of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysians will have the chance to vote the BN out of office once and for all.
In a post-BN Malaysia, observers will closely monitor the role of Islam in public life. Much of what happens will depend on the shape of the government that follows. In terms of the composition of a post-BN government, two outcomes seem most likely: (1) a multi-ethnic Pakatan Rakyat-based (PR) coalition in which PAS (Parti Islam SeMalaysia/Pan Malaysian Islamic Party), PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat/People's Justice Party), and the DAP (Democratic Action Party) all participate, perhaps along with one or more East Malaysian parties; or (2) an UMNO-PAS "Muslim-Malay" coalition, again perhaps involving the cooperation of one or more East Malaysian parties. Either way, PAS—an explicitly Islamic party—will be part of the government.

That PAS would advocate for a greater role for Islam in Malaysian public life is undeniable. PAS describes its goals as follows:
[Fighting to create a society and government that is run according to Islamic principles and the laws which please Allah]
[Defending the sanctity of Islam alongside independence and national sovereignty.]
The prospect of PAS in government alone is worrying for those many Malaysians (both Muslims and non-Muslims) who express concern about the Islamisation of Malaysian politics and society. Moreover, a PR-based government would struggle to balance PAS's goals with the DAP's largely non-Muslim constituency. That would make an UMNO-PAS alliance all the more attractive to PAS, while UMNO, whose membership is not restricted to Muslims but is overwhelming Muslim anyway, would likely not hesitate to return to power with a new coalition partner.

Questions about PAS after the BN may reflect the concerns that many non-Muslims in Malaysiahave about the role of religion in public life, and Malaysia's Hindu minority in particular has cause for grievance on this account. But this obscures the corrosive effects that six decades of ethnic partisanship have had on the prospects for Malaysian democracy. It is a mistake, in other words, to focus narrowly on PAS, or broadly on Islam itself, when anticipating Islam in a post-BN Malaysian political order. Doing so confuses the potential consequences of PAS in government with the factors that have contributed both to PAS's popularity and to the current state of Islam in Malaysian public life.

PAS itself has not played a major role in the Islamisation of Malaysian politics or Malaysian society. Rather, it was Malay politicians in the pre-independence period (the very same group that went on to found UMNO) who enshrined Islam in the constitution and legally defined Malay-ness with reference to Islam. This was done not in the name of Islam, but to protect what were perceived to be "Malay interests" (see for example A History of Malaysia, pp. 256-257). After independence, with communism illegal, social democracy discredited (through its historical affiliation with a largely Chinese opposition party), liberalism cast as antithetical to Malaysian values, multiculturalism or pan-ethnic solidarity discouraged through the party system, and the bumi/non-bumi split underlying every aspect of social and economic policy, the only "Malay" alternative to UMNO's Malay platform was PAS's Islamist platform.

Today, in a society in which economic function and demographic characteristics such as urbanisation no longer distinguish Malays from non-Malays as easily as they once did, core issues such as religion have a new importance for voters whose political identities are constructed through an ethnic framework.

The strategic logic of political competition in Malaysia's plural society therefore rewards parties seeking Malay votes when they appeal to the characteristics that define Malays in opposition to non-Malays. It should not surprise anyone that when Malay voters find UMNO politicians wanting, they are likely to vote for the only opposition party whose political outlook has not been labelled as "un-Malaysian" for the past half century.

Facing this, non-exclusivist opposition parties such as the DAP and PKR have struggled to transcend the ethnic paradigm in Malaysian politics. The choice for non-Malay, non-Muslim voters has been whether to cast their lot with their own regime-allied (and ethnically-constituted) parties, the "un-Malaysian" multiethnic opposition, or the Islamist PAS.
The fundamental challenge for public life in a post-BN Malaysia is not Islam, it is ethnicity's dominant role in defining Malaysians' political identity, and this challenge is just as pressing today as it would be if a new government with PAS comes to power following the upcoming elections. Of course, PAS's explicitly religious goals are important to note, but there are few things that it could do in government that are not already within UMNO's capacity today.

UMNO has presided over—and its campaign messages and public policies have encouraged—the rise of Islam in public life. It is tempting today to see what Judith Nagata called the "reflowering of Malaysian Islam" as merely a local instance of a global Muslim awakening, but this misses the very politics of Islamic politics in Malaysia.

In the Malaysian context, the rise of religion is the unavoidable consequence of the politicisation of ethnicity. A PAS-led government might go further than the BN has in prosecuting perceived insults to Islam, or in expanding the domain of Islamic family law, but such worries already mark Malaysian public life. The religious issues facing Malaysia are far deeper than the ruling party's religious outlook, and having PAS in government is best understood as the outcome of decades of social change and religious conflict rather than a possible independent cause of future religious tensions.

It is reasonable to wonder what Malaysian politics would look like with an avowedly Islamist party like PAS in government, but as always, the meaning of Islam in Malaysian public life cannot be separated from the dominance of ethnicity in Malaysian politics.

The "solution" to the "problem" of Islam in Malaysian politics—if one believes that Islam is indeed a problem—is the same as the solution to many of the other issues that face contemporary Malaysian society: a post-ethnic movement (not merely a multi-ethnic one) in which Malaysians identify, assemble, and act as Malaysians rather than as representatives of ethnic groups in a zero-sum competition for power and resources.
This is what many hope that a PR government would mean, and in rhetorical terms, that is what Najib's 1Malaysia campaign promises. A recent article in the Economist suggests that many young Malaysians would welcome such a post-ethnic politics. But they will have to wait, for Malaysian politics as BN-versus-PR restates the ethnic politics framework without moving past it.

Setengah Bilion Ringgit Lesap Dari Yayasan Selangor Semasa BN

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 09:28 PM PST

," katanya seperti dilapor Malaysiakini.

-KD

Ketirisan Y S'gor: Selcat cadang forensik audit

-FMT

Najib minta maaf, pulangkan hak rakyat

Riduan Mohd Nor,
06 Mac 2012

-HD

OFA coffee table book, part 19

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 07:02 PM PST

D-24 days. I've keyed in the first batch of corrections and amendments resulting from the efforts of our proof-reading volunteer. Having written off as unreliable the Penang Free School teachers who were suggested to us, I must say that I am very glad for the effort of Kuei Yin, who is Molly's friend from the church. She's a former English language teacher from Johor with a lot of experience teaching the language in local government schools and private schools in Singapore.

Now retired, she relocated to Penang with her husband who is attached to the Universiti Sains Malaysia. This lady has sharp eyes because she spotted so many typographical errors in our manuscripts. Typo errors are always critical. For example, can you imagine that instead of typing "cremated", I had unknowingly typed "created"? The missing em threw the whole meaning of my sentence off! How embarrassing it would be to have this silly typo appear in the book.

Of course, the fact that she was from Johor meant that she would be unfamiliar with the histories of the Penang Free School and The Old Frees' Association and could look at our efforts with a fresh, critical eye. But I hear that she has now become our most ardent fan. "You should be proud of your history and tradition," she commented.

That's what we wanted and hopefully, that's what we will achieve. When non-Old Frees read the book and they can express the same appreciation for our history as Kuei Yin, then I shall consider our job to be well accomplished!

Having said all this, there is of course a second round of proof-reading to do tomorrow, just to make sure than the layout team has done all of them.

In a short while, I'll be going out to the island. Destination is, of course, The Old Frees' Association. I can't wait to pick up the envelope that Dato' Anwar Fazal had left for me at the club house yesterday evening. I was on the telephone with him yesterday and I casually asked whether he had any new pictures to share with us. I'm glad that he had kept them aside in case we asked him. He wasn't certainly going to force them on us to use in the book but in case we wanted them, they would be readily available. That's good anticipation.

Mahkamah Tolak Rayuan "Rasul Melayu" Abdul Kahar Ahmad

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 07:54 PM PST

Panel tiga hakim, Tan Sri Ibrahim Lembut, Datuk Md.

-BERNAMA
