Himpunan BERSIH 3.0 bermula jam 2.30 ptg.

Timely and True

Remember the cowardly lion in The Wizard of Oz? The concept completely overturned the typical belief that lions are brave. That unique and subtle message teaches us that no matter how great someone is, no matter how fearful they appear to be, they too are bound to have fear.

Each one of us has our own set of fears that stop us from attaining our true potential. If you find that you lack the courage to take that little step forward, here are some courage quotes to motivate you. Maybe if the cowardly lion had read some of these courage quotes he would not have to go all the way to Oz to find courage.

Winston Churchill
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Billy Graham
Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.

Erica Jong
Everyone has a talent, what is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads.

Harold Wilson
Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.

James Allen
Whether you be man or woman you will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor.

Lao-Tzu
Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; loving someone deeply gives you courage.

Mary Anne Radmacher-Hershey
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says... I'll try again tomorrow.

Robert Anthony
Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway.

Tori Amos
Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it.

Winston Churchill
Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.

"This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life."

Take care, folks. God bless you all.

Bendera BERS✔H Kini Di Puncak Everest & Kinabalu

-KD

Bersih on top of the world… literally

PETALING JAYA: Bersih 3.0 has literally reached the top of the world now.

Two Malaysians unable to participate in the rally at Dataran Merdeka tomorrow have decided to have one of their own as they scaled the highest mountain in the world Mount Everest throughout the weekend.

A photograph of the two men was posted on the Bersih 3.0 official page today, garnering more than 1,000 "likes" and more than 100 comments, mostly praising the duo.

In the picture, the men are seen holding a Malaysian flag and the Bersih 3.0 banner with the words "Mendaki Bantah, Mount Everest", a variation of Bersih 3.0′s theme of "Duduk Bantah."

"They don't want their identity to be known at the moment, but they are just ordinary Malaysians who supports us.

"They have put up the Bersih flag on their first day of their base camp yesterday I think," said Bersih steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah.

It is understood that the two, who had started their journey on April 16, would be putting up more Bersih flags as they climbed higher.

One commentator on Facebook wrote: "Kalau Everest diorang boleh tawan. Apasal Dataran Merdeka kita tak boleh pegang esok, kan? (If they could conquer Everest, why can't we take Dataran Merdeka tomorrow?)"

Globally, Bersih 3.0 suppporters are expected to gather at 82 locations and 33 countries.

In Malaysia, supporters are expected to gather at 11 different states. In Kuala Lumpur, Bersih 3.0 said it expected more than 100,000 people.

"Oh ya, we're expecting more than that," said Maria.

Keahlian UMNO: Abd Aziz Cawangan Sri Ampang Baru, Wan Ahmad Caw. Kubang Bunggor

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 07:09 AM PDT

Sahih! Aziz Yusof DAN Wan Ahmad SPR Ahli Umno!

Pengakuan Aziz, Wan Ahmad

Nama ABDUL AZIZ BIN MOHD YUSOF
No KP 50012410xxxx
No KP Lama 2698xxx
No Keahlian UMNO 113804
Kod Cawangan 09920036=SRI AMPANG BARU
Kod DUN 09920=LEMBAH JAYA
Kod Bahagian 099 = AMPANG
Negeri SELANGOR

Nama WAN AHMAD BIN WAN OMAR
No KP 49010103xxxx
No KP Lama 2756xxx
No Keahlian UMNO 2374564
Kod Cawangan 02213049=KUBANG BUNGGOR
Kod DUN 02213= CHETOK
Kod Bahagian 022 = PASIR MAS
Negeri KELANTAN

Bersih mahu teruskan perhimpunan esok

Nasib Bersih 3.0 sama seperti sebelumnya

PETALING JAYA: Bersih 3.0 menghadapi masalah sama seperti dua siri sebelumnya.

"Menteri (Hishammudin) takut sokongan rakyat…" kata Timbalan Ketua Penerangan, Rozan Azen Mat Rasip.

Datuk Bandar KL jangan angkuh- AMK

"Apa bezanya jika Dataran Merdeka menjadi lokasi?

Mana pernah kerajaan UMNO izinkan Perhimpunan Bersih?

-GB 20/4/2012

Backache

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 12:40 AM PDT

During my intensive rehabilitation in the 1980s, I sustained a couple of chronic injuries. Over exertion during my standing and walking exercises resulted in a bad knee and an aching back. The pain in the knee is more pronounced. It has been bothering me constantly for the past 25 years, more so just before rain.

The backache comes on and off. My bad posture, mostly from being on an ill-fitting wheelchair for too long without a break, exacerbates it. There was never a need for treatment. However, this ache that has been nagging me for the past three weeks necessitated the use of medicated plasters every other night just before bed.

It is not the wheelchair this time but an extended period on it. My buttock aches and I tend to sit with a hunch to alleviate the pain. That is the cause. Looks like I need some bed time for every four or five hours on the chair. So many things to do, so little time.

Thousands gather in Oslo to sing song Anders Breivik hates

Posted: 26 Apr 2012 11:21 PM PDT

Source:Thousands gather in Oslo to sing song Anders Breivik hates

About 40,000 people sing 1970s song Children of the Rainbow, which Breivik described as Marxist propaganda. Reuters in Oslo

Up to 40,000 Norwegians have staged an emotionally charged singalong in Oslo near the court building where Anders Behring Breivik is on trial for the murder of 77 people in a protest organisers said showed he had not broken their tolerant society.

"It's we who win," said guitar-strumming folk singer Lillebjørn Nilsen as he led the mass singalong and watched the crowd sway gently in the rain. Many held roses above their heads, and some wept.

The protest followed several days of defiant testimony from Breivik, who has admitted killing his victims but denied criminal guilt.

The crowd chose to sing Children of the Rainbow, a song that extols the type of multicultural society Breivik has said he despises and one he dismissed during the trial as Marxist propaganda.

People then marched to the district courthouse where Breivik was on trial, close to the site where he set off a bomb that killed eight people on 22 July last year.

Thousands more Norwegians held similar musical protests in towns across the country. The protest came as survivors lined up inside the courtroom to take the witness stand and describe the bombing.

"I was spitting teeth," said Harald Foesker, who had been at work in the Ministry of Justice when the 950kg fertiliser bomb went off outside his window.

"I felt at once that this was a terror attack on the government building … I called for help but nobody answered."

He said he lost 80% of his vision and his face had to be restored afterwards, but added he was proud to live in a country that treated criminal defendants with dignity.

Breivik, 33, has called his victims "traitors" who deserved death for embracing leftwing values that, in his view, opened Europe to a slow-motion Muslim invasion.

He has said he felt he had no choice but to strike back, bombing government offices and staging a brutal gun massacre at a Labour party island summer camp that killed 69 people.

Breivik has often used chillingly graphic language to describe his killing spree, but it seems to have taken his comments about the Children of the Rainbow song to touch a nerve in a country that prides itself on a tradition of tolerance and justice.

Context Matters To Meaning and Forms

Posted: 26 Apr 2012 10:05 PM PDT

An abstract artwork hangs inconspicuously on the wall outside the lecture hall. Few bother to give it a second look. "Meaningless splotches of paint on canvas," says a friend. "Looks like kindergarten art," says another.

But mount the same artwork with a European baroque frame, hang it in a swanky art gallery where you have to pay to go in, the 'splotches of paint' take on a different significance.

Indeed, context matters. It changes interpretation. It changes the meanings of forms. Which reminds me of my visit to the Tate Gallery in Liverpool last December.

Spotlighted among other home collectibles on the exhibition floor was an upright men's urinal with 'R Mutt' signed on the side.  My curiosity piqued, I googled for an image of the urinal.  And, there it was - The Fountain, 1917 by Marcel Duchamp.

Marcel Duchamp

Duchamp was a French artist who lived in New York in 1917. Pricked by the elitism at that time, he pulled a prank on the art establishment by submitting to an avant-garde exhibition a common men's urinal, signed with a pseudonym 'R Mutt' - just to prove a point that modern art shouldn't take itself too seriously, that it should be amusing, provocative, inclusive and accessible to the common person.

Unsurprisingly, the Society of Independent Artists rejected the urinal because they saw it as nothing more than a vulgar piece of toilet fixture.

To justify the submission, Duchamp wrote an anonymous letter to a magazine, 'The Blind Man', in May 1917.  He wrote in part: "Whether Mr Mutt with his own hands made the fountain or not has no importance. He chose it. He took an ordinary article of life, placed it so that its useful significance disappeared under the new title and point of view... he created a new thought for that object."

A colleague who is familiar with Duchamp's work says when we look at a piece of artwork, it's not in the painting or the objet d'art that matters as much as the artist's ideas and the creative process behind the artwork.

The interpretation and thinking that we, as the audience, bring to the artwork becomes part of the creative process. In a sense, art doesn't need a clear definition. The audience's perplexed interaction with the artwork suffices to reward the artist.

Context and process - yes, they're as important as the outcome. Which brings me to the commonplace yellow T-shirt that's been making money for some enterprising Facebookers.

Wearing a 'yellow T-shirt' was once quite uncool, gaudy in fact. But since Nov 10, 2007, 'yellow' has created a new point of view, a new thought. An everyday apparel has come to represent the people's discontent.

Although revered as the colour of royalty and the Agung's flag, 'yellow' is now seen as a colour of subversion by the men in dark blue .

Then, there is 'red', Umno's corporate colour, and its red-shirted 'Patriots' seething in their hot-blooded reactionary politics at each Bersih rally.

What a picture it would paint on tomorrow if the yellow and red were to blend into orange, one of the colours in Buddhism that symbolises wisdom and self-control - attributes that are completely alien to the black-shirted goons, who, in the stealth of a few hours after midnight, swooped down on the hapless college students encamped at Independent Square. From the video clips, the goons in black - signifiers of hate and ignorance - looked like lost warriors from the underworld.

The 'occupiers', many of them donning 'yellow', may not have achieved their objectives.  But their tents have amused the public and provoked the authorities. It has sent a clear message that the votes of college students could make a significant difference in the next general election, if not, then in the one thereafter. The students will by then be in their mid-20s. They'll realise their future lies beyond treading on the yellow brick road.

Indeed, the student polity may already have what it takes to bring about fundamental change in the system. They just need to look within and live by their convictions for the greater good. Like Dorothy and her friends who realised that they had, all along in their fantastical journey, the power within themselves to find their way home to Kansas, the American heartland during the Great Depression.

They didn't need the wizard who turned out to be just another fraud in the land of Oz. Just like our politicians in Putrajaya who promised so much but delivered so little to the rakyat. Remedies to the current system rest in the rakyat.

The yellow, red, black and dark blue mob will be out in force tomorrow. As a matter of course, the mainstream and alternative media will run various claims of success and failure of the campaign. The government will issue its standard security warnings and the police will detain some 'trouble-makers' amidst reports of police brutality and denials. Citizen reporters will come up with different video accounts of the same event.

Contextual accuracy and verifications will fly out the window as emotions and political persuasions take over rational reporting. Indeed, it will take many more campaigns to clean up the system.

Nevertheless, we'll keep the true reformasi fire burning in the Malaysian collective intelligence as we continue to seek ways to take the country out of its slide past mediocrity. As Duchamp noted, the process is just as important as the product.

My well-wishes to the true believers back home in their sit-ins at the Independence Square tomorrow. I'll be joining Bersih 3.0 in Martin Place, Sydney at 2pm (12 noon in KL).

This post, written by Eric Loo, was first published HERE under a different title. I used a different title and translated a few Malay words into English :-). I really love his analogies and the way he has correlated key points this article.
