Flashback malware

I have to face up to the fact that my MacBook, which by the way I use very seldom nowadays, is liable to get infected by computer malware. In particular, the flashback virus has been in the news for several weeks now and users of Apple computers are rushing to get a fix for this problem.

Apple itself has come out with patches for its most recent operating systems and only yesterday, I learnt that the company has released an update for their OS X Leopard. None, unfortunately, for the OS X Tiger which I'm still using.

Fortunately though, I hope to be spared from this flashback infection because of a fortuitous decision to instal an anti-virus program on my MacBook. This was done in March 2011 - that's more than a year ago - on the advice of an old school pal from London who had alerted me to the possibility of Apple computers being affected. He had then recommended me using the free Sophos anti-virus program.

I'm still in the process of doing a thorough anti-virus scan of my MacBook's harddisk and so far, it still looks clean. Whatever, I am rather thankful that I had listened to my old friend. Better be safe than sorry.

Anyhow as an added insurance, I've also disabled Java on both the Firefox and Safari browser programs on the MacBook. Can't be too careful, can I?

Famous 45-Minutes Pork Noodle @ Ooi Noodle House, SS15

Famous 45-Minutes Pork Noodle @ Ooi Noodle House, SS15 – My friend told me about a famous pork noodle (g yok fun) in SS15, Subang Jaya. I didn't really bother about until a day, suddenly my mind feels like finding it. I search on Foursquare about the location and I not really sure, it says 'Famous 45-minutes Pork Noodle', so I follow the map on Foursquare and reaches this Ooi Noodle House.

I asked for 2 bowls of pork noodles, koay teow and the person told me, "Need to wait 45-minutes wor…". I was like, really?

I went in to the cafe, it was tea time about 3pm, I saw many people were waiting for the pork noodle, reading newspaper, playing with iPhone and iPod. Seems like everyone is OK with the wait, so me and my dear Hueisean waited together, chatting the way to our pork noodle to arrive.

It costs RM5/bowl and to be honest, the soup is really tasty. It's very sweet and 'pork-ful'. There's sinful deep fried lard, minced meat, pork liver, sliced lean pork and vegetable. I guess it really lives off with the name of 45-minutes pork noodle. I've got to say, it worth the wait (once in a while). I really like the pork noodle, but the wait is kinda long somehow, have to wait for the mood comes again and I'll visit the shop – Ooi Noodle House.

[IKTIBAR] Kepala Yatt Hamzah Terlekat Di Sejadah, Nampak Wanita Dipanggang Api Neraka

Posted: 15 May 2012 11:06 AM PDT

Sad State Of Affairs In Our Schools

Posted: 15 May 2012 07:15 AM PDT

"SIR, I don't have a desk!" These were the first few words I heard when I "went back to school" last Wednesday. They were from a puny Fourth Former at a school in the suburbs of Klang where I had volunteered to teach during the "Teach for Malaysia" week.

I had advance notice of what I was to expect – the students came from challenging backgrounds, and often brought these challenges into the classroom. Some may be shy and intimidated by the presence of strangers; others may try to seek attention. The advice given was: Be patient and know that you may not get the reactions you might be expecting.

For the sake of the students and all the young people at Teach for Malaysia, I shall not name the school but I can tell you that I taught the class of Form 4H – class No. 8 out of 12 classes.

I spent a whole hour with the students and it gave a glimpse of what is wrong with our education system. It was not just one student who did not have a chair and desk – three other students carried desks and chairs from the next class.

The blame should be not on the teachers or the schools, but an education system that has systematically eroded over the years and priority is given to pretentious projects but not basic requirements. If we can spend millions sending a Malaysian as a space tourist, it is a travesty in honesty if we can't provide such indispensable needs for schools.

If a Form One student is unable to write his own name and has to take out his identity card and copy his name, it is a reflection of the gross malaise in the basic education that had been provided in his formative years. This is the sad state of affairs in our schools, and yet, we boast that "our schools are better than those in the UK".

When these teenagers, who will step out into adult life in a few years, are unable to read a simple sentence and unable to know the meaning of simple words, the conclusion is inevitable – our system has failed them.

When schools in urban areas produce exceptional results with students scoring a string of A's, the school gets the glory but with the best teachers, teaching aids and equipment, anything less would be a letdown. Don't expect the same from schools in the rural areas because they are being given the crumbs.

The country boasts of several universities and university colleges, but with such standards in secondary schools, are they enrolling under-qualified undergraduates?

Then, the other question is: With such poor command of the language, how did they pass the PMR examinations? Were pass levels lowered to allow them to pass? Little wonder that many of the graduates of Malaysian universities are unable to land jobs.

All these show the foreseeable: These students have not been given the basics – reading and writing – at primary school level. No serious attempt is being made at this level to ensure that they have these skills before even attempting to teach other subjects like mathematics and science.

The figures from Pemandu tell us the story. The Education National Key Economic Area (NKEA) research shows that only 4% of the population is enrolled in pre-schools. A total of 46% of students pursuing tertiary education are enrolled in private higher education institutions. Equally baffling is that Malaysians make up nearly 43% of students enrolled in international schools. Is it a case of having no faith in the local education system?

Urbanites must surely account for all of this small percentage of pre-schoolers because parents are willing to spend sometimes up to RM6,000 a year on pre-school or kindergarten.

But what is there for the poor and the rural kids? They spend six years in primary school and "cruise" along. No special attention is given to slow learners or the "disadvantaged" lot and at the end, they become mere statistics when the UPSR exam results are announced.

This exam does not solve yet alone isolate the problem. The problem is "transferred" to the secondary school, where it becomes even more difficult to address and find solutions to the problem. When results are bad and pass percentages keep dropping, the teachers and the schools get blamed.

The headmaster or headmistress is taken to task but there is little that can be done as he or she is merely inheriting the problem – served on a platter of melancholy from the primary school system.

We now take pride in telling the world of being an education hub with branch campuses of Nottingham University, Newcastle University, Swinburne University, Curtin University and Monash University. Yet, what value does it bring us when we have an education system that does not address the basic needs of the rakyat?

The answer is not in building more schools or sending teachers abroad or inviting foreigners to teach in our schools. It is no use having flamboyant buildings or state-of-the-art paraphernalia when the children do not have the basics to understand simple instructions.

The education system needs a revamp. It needs a fresh re-look by someone who views it without wearing blinkers or ear-plugs. We need experts – not politicians – to draw up policies that provide quality education.

[Video] Keganasan Polis: Wartawan Beri Najib 2 Minggu Untuk Bertindak

Posted: 15 May 2012 08:01 AM PDT

Polis turut melakukan serangan terhadap wartawan lain termasuk Malaysiakini, The Malaysian Insider, Al Jazeera, Makkal Osai, Guang Ming Daily, Channel News Asia, Merdeka Review dan The Malay Mail.

-KD

English-Medium Schools

English-medium schools: No place for 'we know best' by R Nadeswaran, The Sun

LET there be no mistake. Malay or Bahasa Malaysia is the national language. It will continue to be the medium of instruction in our schools notwithstanding the existence of Chinese and Tamil schools. The Education Ministry has made attempts, albeit feeble ones, to improve the proficiency of the English Language by introducing the "Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening the Command of English" policy, but its results leave much to be desired.

Every attempt to make the younger generation competent in the universal language of English has been thwarted by self-proclaimed defenders of culture, heritage and language.

There is overwhelming evidence of a lack of basic skills such as reading and writing in English. Last week, the Dewan Negara was told that about 76,200 graduates are unemployed because they do not possess job hunting skills and are too dependent on others to convey information on job opportunities.

This reflects the situation. If you can't prepare a decent CV for a job application, it's bound to end in failure. On the net, there are hundreds if not thousands of tips, advice and even samples of CVs. Yet, our graduates are unable to use such information. Not because they do not have IT skills but because they do not understand the language. About four years ago, I was shown a job application from two graduates of a local university. They had attached two photographs, two CVs and sent in a "joint application"!

We have students in Form Four who can't write a simple sentence in English without grammar or spelling mistakes. They have not been given a good grounding in the language to take them forward when they leave school or university.

Therefore, the announcement by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong that the introduction of English-medium schools in addition to national-type Chinese, Tamil and religious schools has to be discussed in depth is indeed welcome.

The question previously asked in this column was: If Chinese and Tamil schools can exist, why not English schools? This rather obvious question was met with typical official replies of "we are studying the matter".

However, Wee's answer in the Dewan Negara last week that stakeholders will be consulted is good news indeed. The government has finally realised that policies cannot be shoved down people's throats without seeking their views and explaining the issues to them.

But then, the next question is: Who are the stakeholders? Definitely, they cannot be confined to some high-nosed politicians wearing blinkers who see the existence of English schools as a "threat to the national language".

The biggest stakeholders are people like you and me – parents – who want to be a given a choice.

I belong to a generation which studied eight subjects in English and one in Malay which was called Bahasa Kebangsaan. A pass in the latter was compulsory for the Malaysia Certificate of Education and a pass in the former necessary for the Senior Cambridge Certificate.

In our time, for Geography, we used books by G. E. D. Lewis. In primary school, we learnt about Ah Chong the gardener, Awang the fisherman, Ramasamy the dock worker and so on.

During history lessons in primary school, we learnt about the great religious leaders – Prophet Muhammad, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ etc. We learnt about great nationalists – Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sun Yat Sen, Mahatma Gandhi etc. We also learnt about the explorers – Francis Drake, Magellan, Christopher Columbus etc. All these gave us an understanding of the world around us and the events that helped shape the future.

It was not just that we learnt history, but we acquired knowledge. These days, what we learn and the knowledge we acquire is dictated by a few who have adopted the "we know best" policy. When the syllabus was changed, there was no consultation whatsoever and the powers-that-be decided what we need to know and what we need not.

The education system has been changed, tinkered and messed around without consultation. This time around, there is reason to believe that the ministry will take views into account and perhaps publish a Consultation Paper before a decision is made either way. But do not expect change overnight or for that matter, in a few years. The whole process may take longer than that.

 Lauk paling menyelerakan

Memang best la lauk ni, pertama sebab laki aku suka makan ( penting tu jaga perot suami la konon) kedua sebab sangat senang nak masak, ketiga sebab daun kesum kat herb garden aku tu sikit lagi nak membentuk hutan hujan tropika, bunga kantan pulak sekali kembang dekat 10 kuntum jiran aku pun pelik apsal aku sekali sedekah kat dia bunga kantan mengalahkan bouquet budak U nak convo.

I lap you very strong DaddyMiki!!! Muahhhh

UMNO Mahu Jarakkan Diri Dari Tindakan Biadab PERKASA

UMNO Pulau Pinang tak setuju tindakan PERKASA ganggu Lim, keluarga

Anggota Dewan Undangan Negeri kawasan Seri Delima R.S.N.

Ulasan GB

Kerana khuatirkehilangan undi dari Gerakan & MCA, maka UMNO Pulau Pinang isytiharkan pendirian berbeza dengan PERKASA.

Walhal hakikatnya telunjuk sudah lurus sedangkan kelingking masih berkait. Sama halnya dengan Najib. 1Malaysia di depan, di belakang, biarkan PERKASA teruskan agenda perkauman.

Rakyuat kini tidak mudah ditipu UMNO lagi.

Free port status, sure?

Posted: 15 May 2012 03:42 AM PDT

One of the news items that I've read in recent days is this one in theSundaily and other newspapers, that quoted the newly-minted Penang Barisan Nasional chairman, Teng Chang Yeow, as saying that his party, if it recaptures the state in the next general elections, will push for Penang to get back its free port status.

Bunkum. Nonsense. What a big load of bullshit. Crap. This is plain old-fashioned dangling of a bait. Why talk in terms of "if it recaptures the state" and not now, as in "immediately?" If this is not dangling a bait, the only other way to describe it is daylight bribery.

The point is, if Teng and gang are serious about giving back the free port status to Penang, which the old Alliance, pre-Barisan Nasional, government took away in 1969, they do not have to wait until the general elections are over. Give it back to us now and prove your sincerity that it is not bribery or an election bait.

We do not mind if you hang up a signboard later on to declare that it is another "Barisan Nasional gift to the people of Penang" just like what you did shamelessly with the new Penang Hill railway station. We can live with the boasts. Just do it with no strings attached and I shall respect you for it, okay? Or else you are no better than your bosses in Putrajaya. Hot air....

Or, by the way, I'm sure that if the Pakatan Rakyat captures Putrajaya next, the free port status for Penang will be in the pipeline too, without the state having to ask too much.

Why the descendents of migrants have no sympathy but showing hatred on the new migrants?

See recently, although all the Singaporean Chinese were the descendents of migrants, there are a lot of animosity even on their same race Chinese Migrants.

Read this news: Ferrari crash fuels Singapore anti-foreign sentiment at MY Sinchew

Singapore, May 14, 2012 (AFP) – A wealthy Chinese expatriate who crashed his million-dollar Ferrari into a taxi killing himself and two others has sparked outrage in Singapore, where anti-immigrant sentiment is on the rise. Disgruntled locals seized on the incident as another reason to attack the government's immigration policies and the presence of more than a million foreign workers and professionals in the crowded city-state.

Foreigners are blamed for pushing up living costs, straining public transport and stealing jobs, with mainland Chinese bearing the brunt of attacks.

Hundreds of indignant comments were posted online.

"I hate to drag nationality into this tragedy but the stupidity of a single (Chinese) possibly drunkard driver has caused such catastrophic damage to so many people," Tan Wee Meng posted on Facebook.

And few days ago, a Pakistani-Malay mixed blooded Foreign Minister even advised the OIC leaders to push out the refugees But ofcourse, he used the the very sweet sentence of day dreaming: voluntary repatriation and re-integration of returnees are practical solutions to the problem of refugees facing the Muslim world.

Even if ALL GREAT OIC countries or US President or UNSG try, they would not be successful to push the Palestine Refugees into Israel or Gaza strip. Even if Israel PM agree to accept, he would face the fate of Yitzhak Rabin.

The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin took place on November 4, 1995 (12th of Marcheshvan, 5756 on the Hebrew Calendar) at 21:30, at the end of a rally in support of the Oslo Accords at the Kings of Israel Square in Tel Aviv. The assassin, a far-right-wing religious Zionist named Yigal Amir, strenuously opposed Rabin's peace initiative and particularly the signing of the Oslo Accords. (Wikipedia )

Now read this The real answer to refugee woes from the StarOnline

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia feels voluntary repatriation and re-integration of returnees are practical solutions to the problem of refugees facing the Muslim world.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said countries in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should work together and assist each other to address this issue.

"The strategies and methods to create a safe and conducive environment for the return of refugees are steps that OIC countries should discuss expeditiously," he said during the OIC International Conference on Refugees in the Muslim World in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Noting the Muslim world faces the problem of hosting more than 50% of the world's refugees, Anifah stressed that each refugee situation had its own peculiarity and there was no "one-size-fits-all" solution.

"We need to recognize the social and humanitarian dimensions this problem brings and the urgent need for us to address its root causes," Anifah said.

He said the international community had an important role to play, particularly in assisting the countries involved to facilitate the voluntary repatriation and successful re-integration of returnees.

Anifah added that the role of the international community would be to provide appropriate funding and logistical support for this exercise. — Bernama

[Video] Askar Pencen "Berpenyakit Buasir" Bersenam Depan Rumah Ambiga

Posted: 15 May 2012 04:39 AM PDT

'Orang Islam, minum air suam'

"Kami orang Melayu orang Islam, kami minum air suam.

Gangguan, bukan himpunan aman

-mk

Senaman punggung: Jangan dilihat macam lembu meragut

oleh Mohd Insan Kamil

Laporan portal berita mengenai tindakan sekumpulan bekas tentera mengadakan 'senaman punggung' depan rumah Pengerusi Bersama Bersih Datuk S Ambiga dekat ibu negara pagi tadi janganlah sampai dilihat seperti lembu-lembu sedang meragut rumput.

Ulasan GB

Macam orang kena penyakit buasir layaknya.

Laknatullah Ke Atas Perancang & Pembikin Video Yang Memfitnah Nizar Ini...

Aku malas dah nak ulas panjang-panjang... korang tengoklah sekali lagi video kat atas tu, lepas tu apa yang tak betul korang tinggalkan komen kat bawah tu...

Macammanalah pencacai UMNO ni edit video tu.. jalan cerita tak lancar langsung.. Nampak sangat dah dieditnya..

[Fatir: 43]

The Ultimate Irish Coffee Joke

Posted: 14 May 2012 03:30 PM PDT

An Irish woman of advanced age visited her doctor to ask his advice on reviving her husband's libido.

'What about trying Viagra?' asked the doc.

'Not a chance', she said... 'He won't even take an aspirin.'

'No problem,' replied the doc. 'Give him an 'Irish Viagra'...

'What is Irish Viagra?', she asked.

'It's when you drop the Viagra tablet into his coffee. He won't even taste it. Give it a try and call me in a Week to let me know how things went' the doc explained.

It was a week later when she called the doc, who directly inquired as to her progress.

The poor dear exclaimed, 'Oh, faith, bejaysus and begorrah! T'was horrid! Just terrible, doctor!'

'Really? What happened?' asked the doc.

'Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in His coffee and the effect was almost immediate. He jumped straight up, with a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and with his pants a-bulging Fiercely!

With one swoop of his arms, he sent me cups and saucers flying, ripped me clothes to tatters And took me then and there passionately on the tabletop! T'was a nightmare, I tell you, an absolute nightmare!'

'Why so terrible?' asked the doc, 'Do you mean the s** your husband provided wasn't good?'

'Freakin' jaysus, it was the best s** I've Had in 25 years! But sure as I'm sittin' here, I'll never be able to show me face in Star***ks again.

Tunku Aziz, a true Malaysian!

Posted: 14 May 2012 12:05 PM PDT

As expected, Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim finally quits DAP as its vice-chairman, barely three years after joining it.

In his short text message to Bernama, he did not give any reason for the decision but it is publicly known that the row over his dejection for Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28 prompted him to leave the opposition.

Personally, I perceive it as a true gentleman's move. Besides, being the only Malay general in the Chinese-dominated circle, he probably realised how he has all the while been made as strap for the party's leadership.

He couldn't speak louder than Karpal, Kit Siang or Guan Eng. He got to spell out everything before the top leadership for any statement he wanted to make.

However, Bersih 3.0 was his wake up call. At 78, he believe in his country's stability, prosperity and peace as most important than extreme politics. He is old enough to detect the rotten agenda behind Bersih and its devastating impact on national security.

Even as a DAP leader then, the Senator was seldom heard. Despite being with the opposition, he valued national harmony and didn't believe in unseating a popular government by means of force. He loves the country just like others who objected to Bersih.

As for the DAP, it has to find a 'Malay replacement' for him to give the impression that it is a multi-racial party. But who would be the donkey this time?

Tunku Aziz's next move is still unknown. However, he is a wise man...
