Loji terbakar: Seorang maut, sembilan cedera

DUNGUN – Seorang pekerja kontrak maut dan sembilan lagi cedera dalam kebakaran di pusat pemprosesan gas di Loji Pemprosesan Gas (GPP) dalam kawasan Kompleks A milik Petronas di sini, hari ini.

Pekerja itu, Rosli Mansor, 31, disahkan meninggal dunia di tempat kejadian dalam kebakaran kira-kira 3 petang itu, menurut kenyataan Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB).

Menurut kenyataan itu, jenazah Rosli yang berasal dari Kuala Terengganu dihantar ke Hospital Kemaman untuk bedah siasat.

Seorang lagi pekerja Mohd Zamri Fithri Mat Nor, 25 berasal daripada Padang Pulut di sini yang mengalami kecederaan parah dengan 90 peratus bahagian badannya melecur, dihantar ke Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah untuk rawatan lanjut.

Lapan lagi pekerja yang cedera dirawat di Hospital Kemaman dan Hospital Dungun.

Menurut PGB, kesemua mangsa merupakan kakitangan kontraktor, Hyundai PFCE, yang sedang menjalankan kerja menyenggara di loji berkenaan.

Menurut kenyataan itu, kebakaran berjaya dikawal sepenuhnya kira-kira 3.30 petang. – BERNAMA

Ulasan GB

GB sudah meramalkan dahulu bahawa:

GB dapat merasakan bahawa berita "buruk" untuk Petronas akan terus terhidang di dada media selagi Petronas gagal menunaikan kewajipannya membayar royalti kepada pihak yang sepatutnya menerimanya.

1Petronas juga bakal terbalik dan pecah perut?


Dan seperti perkataan GB dimakbulkan lagi hari ini apabila berita Carigali Petronas terbakar kali ini mencederakan 6 orang pekerja Petronas. Dulu lagi GB dah katakan:

Ada lagi yang bakal meletup jika royalti Kelantan masih tidak mahu diindahkan.

Kita tunggu dan lihat.

Tak mahu sedar dan tak mahu bayar jugak royalti?

Mungkin Petronas nak tunggu sampai ada yang mati!


Bukankah apa yang GB katakan dahulu sudah pun menjadi kenyataan kini?

Takziah GB kepada keluarga Allahyarham Rosli Mansor.

Semuga "tragedi" ini membuka mata Petronas untuk memenuhi Perjanjian Royaltinya dengan Kelantan.

Jika tak mahu sedar juga, GB serahkan kepada Allah swt untuk "mengajar" Petronas supaya tidak menzalimi rakyat Kelantan!

Having asked a colleague (fellow volunteer) to visit Maznah (the pregnant girl on methadone I blogged about earlier), and after getting a report from the colleague about the girl's background, I decided I needed to visit Maznah myself before advising my colleague on what next to do. With so many complicated details, I think she too got confused with all the facts she took down.

So today, after zohor, I drove over to the hospital at the town where my colleague works, and where Maznah was warded. Based on the earlier info we got, Maznah was supposed to be warded until she delivers so that the doctors/nurses could monitor her methadone & ARV intake. So I figured I would have to visit her at the hospital.

Upon reaching the hospital, I had to wait for my colleague to come so that  we could get in easier since it wasn't visiting hours, and she being a doctor there, would get easier access into the ward. Turned out she forgot to bring her tag/pass and we almost got stopped by the guard upon entering the O&G ward! I took out my HRPB Ipoh special pass (which is actually only valid at HRPB, but at least it helped in explaining why we needed to go in) and the guard finally took us to see the Sister to get permission. Luckily the Sister recognised my colleague. So we were allowed in, only to find out that Maznah had been discharged a week earlier! My colleague couldn't figure out where she placed the note book where she had earlier on jotted down all the details about Maznah, and so she didn't have Maznah's address. Thank God we could dig that out from the hospital records.

After getting some directions on how to get to the address given, off we went to visit Maznah at her mother's house. First to get to a particular hotel… which I was told, known amongst the locals as a hotspot for prostitutes. Parked the car there, and asked someone at a nearby warong how to find Maznah's house. The young lady we asked seemed reluctant to tell where the house was. She asked who we were looking for, and when told we wanted to visit Maznah, she asked why. Only when she was told that Maznah had already met my colleague earlier at the hospital, she told a small boy sitting in front of her to show us the way. Apparently the small boy was Maznah's younger brother! And yes, without him showing the way, we probably would be walking in circles trying to find the house despite having the address.

It was a slum area, and we had to walk through small alleys between the houses to get to Maznah's house.

As we got there, an elderly looking lady wearing t-shirt and shorts, holding a cigarette in her hand, met us first. She told us she was Maznah's mother. Later I found out she was only 44. Younger than me. Seriously I thought she was much older. 2 little boys were playing inside a water tub. The house looked like it was built from discarded materials. Frankly speaking, it's not fit to be called a house.

After a while Maznah came out, with a box of cigarettes in her hand. She recognised my colleague immediately. There was no living room for her to invite us in to, so we had a chat while just standing there – just at the entrance.

I was shocked to find out that 11 of them stayed there, including Maznah's cousins and their children as well. The young lady we met earlier at the warong, was one of them. Another cousin, 18 years of age, is also pregnant. Apparently, in this family, getting pregnant out of wedlock, is nothing out of the ordinary. It was too sensitive a question to ask, but I believe, by the looks of it, that Maznah's mother works as a prostitute to support the family.

Maznah's 13 year old younger brother has stopped schooling as they could no longer afford to send him to school. He now works at a burger stall. Maznah's 9 year old brother, the one who showed us the way to the house, is also not schooling. According to his mother, the boy doesn't want to go to school. Maznah also has a 6 year old sister. These 3 younger siblings of Maznah's, were all born out of wedlock. Maznah herself already has 2 children from earlier pregnancies. One given away to another family, while the other one, a boy, is now 6 years old, same age as Maznah's youngest sister.

I asked Maznah if she wants to send her child to school. She said she does, but she may not be able to afford it. Likewise I asked her 6 year old sister if she wanted to go to school, the girl just smiled and nodded. I told Maznah we should be able to help out with the children's schooling expenses, but she must promise to register them for standard one next year. Maznah seemed to appreciate the offered assistance, even though I only offered schooling assistance and nothing else.

With the kind of background they were brought up in, it's difficult to change their lifestyle. Telling them what should and should not be done will not work. While we see their family as a problematic family, to their family, probably their only problem is financial, and nothing else. For the moment I just told my colleague to be a good friend to Maznah. Let her feel comfortable with us first. Things need to be done in a slow and steady manner.

My target now is so that the 2 younger children goes to school next year. Hopefully that will open them up to a totally different environment. Maznah and her mother both agreed that the 2 should go to school next year. To me that's a good enough start…


[Wajib Tonton] Najib Tunggu Padah Bila Maki "Haramjadah" Kepada Rakyatnya

Najib maki 'haram jadah' kepada peneroka

SHAH ALAM: Kredibiliti Datuk Seri Najib Razak sebagai Perdana Menteri kini dipertikai selepas menuturkan perkataan kurang sopan kepada peneroka yang menyokong pembangkang membantah penyenaraian saham Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGVHB) di Bursa Malaysia.

Ahli Parlimen Shah Alam Khalid Samad berkata Najib sepatutnya bertindak adil terhadap peneroka kerana semuanya berhak menerima 'durian runtuh' selepas tanah mereka dicagarkan untuk penyenaraian FGVHB.

"Ini hak peneroka, tanah peneroka, apa isunya nak maki hamun…eh duit siapa ni? Cara ucapannya memang tak nampak langsung Perdana Menteri punya material," katanya dalam sidang media di sini hari ini.

Najib dalam ucapannya di Majlis Sejahtera Peneroka bersama Perdana Menteri di Jengka 8 kelmarin turut berkata dirinya tidak redha dan tidak rela pembangkang mengambil 'durian runtuh' RM15,000 itu selepas cuba menghalang penyenaraian FGVHB.

"Haram jadah mereka tu. Jangan terima kebaikan daripada penyenaraian (FGVHB). Saya nak tengok muka-muka mereka ni terima durian runtuh. Haram jadah," katanya.

Khalid berkata, walaupun ada peneroka yang tidak bersetuju dengan penyenaraian itu, keputusan sama ada mahu menerima 'durian runtuh' itu tetap terletak di tangan mereka.

Beliau turut mendakwa pemberian 'durian runtuh' itu dibuat hanya berdasarkan niat politik apabila Najib menyentuh isu 'pembubaran parlimen'.

Punca tindakan zalim

Sementara itu, beliau turut membidas mengenai kenyataan bekas Ketua Polis Negara Tan Sri Rahim Noor yang menyifatkan Mursyidul Am PAS Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat sebagai 'bapa kafir'.

Katanya, kenyataan Rahim jelas membuktikan cara Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) menanamkan pemikiran kebencian terhadap pembangkang dalam kalangan pegawai atasan sehingga dianggap musuh negara.

"Inilah yang menghasilkan tindakan zalim. Pemikiran pegawai kerajaan dirosakkan sehingga mereka ini tak boleh bertindak ikut cara profesional," katanya.

Katanya, sebagai negara demokrasi pembangkang ada hak dan perlu dihormati serta bersedia menghadapi kekalahan (pembangkang atau BN) melalui pilihan raya.

Namun bukan melalui cara kotor dengan putar belit fakta dan propaganda sehingga menanamkan kebencian di kalangan kakitangan kerajaan.

"Kalau BN tak nak lepas kuasa, cakap terus terang jangan rosakkan kerajaan," katanya. -FMT

Walau dijanji RM15,000, lebih 3,000 peneroka saman Felda

PETALING JAYA: Walaupun semua peneroka dijanji `durian runtuh' RM15,000 sekeluarga, lebih 3,000 peneroka di Pahang membuat tuntutan saman RM483,000 seorang terhadap Felda.

Mereka ialah 1, 086 peneroka dari Jengka; 800 (Keratong); 770 (Chini), 800 (Mempaga) dan 500 (Bera), kata Pengerusi Biro Felda dan Orang Asal PKR, Suhaimi Said.

Peneroka Jengka, Bera dan Mempaga memfailkan saman di Mahkamah Tinggi Temerloh, manakala peneroka Chini dan Keratong di Mahkamah Tinggi Kuantan.

"Pertama, peneroka menuntut geran tanah dikembalikan setelah mereka membayar semua hutang kepada Felda. Ada yang terpaksa menunggu 10, 15 dan 20 tahun tetapi geran tanah belum dikembalikan.

"Kedua, dana tanaman semula berjumlah RM17, 000 setiap seorang peneroka, kerana ramai lagi yang tidak mendapat dana tersebut.

"Ketiga, berhubung kadar perahan gred (KPG) kerana Felda membayar tidak mengikut KPG yang menyebabkan peneroka kerugian kerana ditipu dari segi kadar sebenar.

"Sebagai contoh, mengikut pasaran KPG ialah 25 – 27 peratus tetapi Felda membayar 17-20 peratus sahaja. Kalau secara kasar 5 peratus, peneroka rugi RM1, 200 setahun.

"KPG ini sepatutnya enam tahun sahaja tetapi Felda mengambilnya sehingga 15 tahun. Ini pecah tanah," kata Suhaimi.

Beliau berkata, tuntutan peneroka itu lebih munasabah jika kerajaan benar-benar ingin membantu peneroka.

Katanya, ia tidak boleh dibantu sekali sahaja seperti bantuan RM15, 000 sebagaimana diumumkan Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Selasa lalu.

Ulasan GB

Begitu dasyat dan begitu keras makian Najib kepada mereka yang tidak bersetuju dengannya di dalam isu penyenaraian Felda Global Ventures Holding (FGVH) di Bursa Malaysia.

Jika PM boleh memaki rakyat dengan "haramjadah" maka jangan hairan nanti Najib dimaki 10 kali ganda lebih dasyat oleh rakyat kepadanya.

Misalnya rakyat pada bila-bila masa boleh memakinya semula seperti berikut:

Kamu, Najib, ingat duit FELDA itu datang dari kocek kamu sendiri, natang?

Itu pun dah cukup lembut, yang lagi keras daripada itu pun rakyat boleh hamburkan.

Najib telah memulakan sesuatu yang tidak baik maka hukum kebenaran dan keadilan akan mengambil tempatnya, sesuatu yang tidak baik itulah bakal menimpa Najib semula. You get back what you give.

GB dah ulas semalam. GB kata:

Apabila Najib memaki rakyatnya iaitu sesetengah peneroka yang tidak bersetuju dengan penyenaraian Felda Global Ventures Holding (FGVH) di Bursa Malaysia, itu tanda-tanda akan berakhirnya tempoh Najib sebagai PM Malaysia... Percayalah!

Di dalam konteks masyarakat melayu ia dinamakan "buang tabiat".

Gejala buang tabiat lazimnya berlaku di saat-saat akhir kehidupan seseorang.

Najib telah gagal dengan ujian sepertimana seorang bapa memaki hamun lantaran gagal menghadapi rencamnya karenah anak-anak sendiri. Pendek umur ayah sedemikian kerana tidak berupaya menguruskan stress.

Kenapa Polis Tak Bertindak ke Atas Pemuda PERKASA Ini?

Upacara pengebumian' depan rumah Guan Eng

Sekumpulan anggota kumpulan pendesak Melayu PERKASA hari ini melangsungkan "upacara pengebumian" di depan rumah Ketua Menteri Lim Guan Eng di Pulau Pinang bagi menyatakan perasan tidak puas hati terhadap pentadbirannnya sejak 2008.

Diketuai Ketua Wira PERKASA Risuan Asuddin, kira-kira 30 orang berkumpulan di depan rumah Lim di Jalan Pinhorn sambil membawa gambarnya berkalung bunga, melambangkan "kematiannya" kepada masyarakat Melayu.

Kumpulan itu berkumpul kira-kira 15 minit bagi meluahkan tindakan Lim yang didakwa mengabaikan masyarakat itu sebelum bergerak beramai-ramai ke pejabat ketua menteri di Komtar.

Sepanjang perjalanan dengan motosikal, mereka membaling poster Lim ke jalan raya dan menyambung perhimpunan 15 minit lagi di Komtar.

Ulasan GB

Kita menjadi hairan mengapa polis tidak bertindak tegas ke atas pemuda PERKASA itu yang TERANG-TERANGAN sentiasa menimbulkan kekecohan dan huru-hara di Pulau Pinang.

Kali ini siap menceroboh depan rumah Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang dan membuat sampah dengan membaling poster di jalanraya.

Yang berjalan dan hendak duduk bantah secara aman dihuru-harakan, yang betul-betul huru-harakan negara dibiar dan didiamkan.

Baguslah kalau macamtu. Sikap polis yang double standard itu sebenarnyalah yang akan merendahkan martabat polis sendiri.

Play The Game Like Men

It was only this evening that I discovered that Abraham Lincoln's speech delivered at the site of one of the Civil War's pivotal battles was only 265 words long. Meaningful, engaging and succinct, it is likely that he took less than four minutes to delver this memorable speech where he pleaded with his countrymen to pay tribute to Gettysburg's fallen heroes by honoring principles of liberty and equality - for which the heroes sacrificed their lives.

Here's the speech popularly known as the Gettysburg Address that Abraham Lincoln delivered on 19th November 1863.

Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.


Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.


But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.

Umno Tanjong Karang Jual Lagi Lima Bidang Tanah Anugerah Kerajaan Negeri

Umno Tanjong Karang didakwa menjual lima lagi bidang tanah di Tanjong Karang yang telah dianugerahkan kepadanya oleh Kerajaan Selangor Umno-BN yang dulu.

Pendedahan terbaru ini sekaligus menjadikan sebanyak tujuh bidang tanah yang telah dianugerahkan kepada Umno Tanjong Karang oleh kerajaan negeri Umno-BN terdahulu.

Tanah-tanah ini kemudiannya dijual kembali bagi membolehkan parti itu memperolehi keuntungan mudah.

Demikian beritahu Naib Yang DiPertua PAS Tanjong Karang, Misran Serman kepada TVS hari ini.

Menurut Misran (gambar), tanah tersebut sebelum ini merupakan kawasan hutan simpan pemampan hakisan pantai yang terdiri dari hutan paya bakau.

"Lima bidang tanah yang saya sebutkan ini sebenarnya hutan simpan paya bakau iaitu kawasan pemampan hakisan pantai.

"Malangnya, kerajaan negeri dahulu dah anugerahkan tanah-tanah ini kepada Umno Tanjong Karang.

"Pindah milik bagi lot nombor 25862 dibuat pada 1996 dan empat lagi bernombor lot 26429, 26431, 26430 dan 26428 pula dipindah milik pada 2001.

"Semakan saya di Pejabat Tanah Dan Galian mendapati Nombor hak milik tanah-tanah ini adalah PN 11222, PN 80339, PN80345, PN 80346 dan PN 80348.

"Lepas itu Umno Tanjong Karang jualkan kepada syarikat-syarikat dengan harga yang tidak diketahui sekaligus sekali lagi jadi jalan mudah Umno Tanjong Karang buat duit," beritahu Misran.

Dari hasil carian yang diperolehi di Pejabat Tanah dan Galian Shah Alam dan Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia, mendapati tanah bernombor lot 25862 dengan keluasan 28.3 hektar telah dijual kepada Prestige Sdn Bhd.

Manakala Lot 26429 dengan keluasan 12.5 hektar pula telah dijual kepada Camaroe Aquaculture Sdn Bhd.

Natural Adept Sdn Bhd pula membeli dua bidang tanah bernombor lot 26431 dan 26430 dengan keluasan masing-masing 4.048 dan 4.049 hektar.

QQ Sea Food Sdn Bhd turut membeli sebidang tanah bernombor lot 26428 dengan keluasan 4.038 hektar.

Menurut Misran, pada masa ini syarikat-syarikat terbabit terlibat menjalankan penternakan udang di atas tanah-tanah yang dibelinya itu.

Misran turut mempersoalkan dakwaan Umno sebelum ini yang mengaku kononnya mempertahankan hak dan kedudukan orang-orang Melayu.

"Umno kata mereka pertahankan hak Melayu, tapi dalam kes ini kita dapat lihat kebolehan Umno menjual tanah yang diberi kerajaan negeri kepada bukan Melayu.

"Sudahlah tanah itu dianugerahkan oleh kerajaan negeri,lepas itu senang-senang mereka jualkan untuk dapat untung atas angin, tindakan mereka langsung tak menguntungkan orang Melayu," kata beliau lagi.

Misran juga memberitahu, perkara ini akan dilaporkan kepada Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia dalam masa terdekat.

Dalam pendedahan sebelum ini, dua bidang tanah di Pekan Tanjong Karang dan Jalan Sungai Kajang yang diberi milik kepada Umno Tanjong Karang turut dijual parti politik terbabit kepada syarikat swasta. -selangorku

Hi, I have something nice to share with my fellow Mommy bloggers. If you guys remember these ads we always see on Dutch Lady Growing Up Milk, about really cute and smart kids?! Well the campaign is coming to an end soon. Actually the campaign is called "Dutch Lady Malaysia's Get Smart, Get Famous Campaign" which is ending this Saturday.

The campaign, which already started in December 2011, saw thousands of entries from mothers nationwide. KUALA LUMPUR: Former inspector-general of police Mohammed Hanif Omar believes that action speaks louder than words.

In view of this, he is unperturbed by the criticism regarding his appointment as the head of the independent panel to probe the police violence during the April 28, Bersih 3.0 rally.

"They can say whatever they like. I mean… what is important is what you are and how you approach things," Hanif told FMT last night when asked to comment on critics claiming that his appointment rendered the panel a sham.

However, Hanif refrained from speaking more about his appointment since he had not been officially informed.

"I have not received any official confirmation yet. I've seen the news on Bernama but there's no letter yet. So I can't say much until I am sure as I cannot be pre-empting everything," he said.

Yesterday, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein announced the appointment of a six-member panel to "gather actual details on the riots in Kuala Lumpur" following the rally.

Aside from Hanif, the panel would comprise former Chief Justice of Borneo Steve Sim, managing director of Kumpulan Akhbar Sinar Harian Husammuddin Yaacub, Sin Chew Group legal adviser Liew Peng Chuen, Petronas corporate affairs senior general manager Medan Abdullah and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia psychologist Prof Dr Ruszmi Ismail.

Hishammuddin said the panel is expected to hold its first meeting soon to determine its terms of reference and roles.

Hanif's appointment received flak from opposition leaders as well as electoral reform group Bersih.

'Communist elements' remark
Bersih steering committee member Wong Chin Huat said the outcome of the panel's investigation was already decided based on Hanif's "prejudice" towards the movement.

"Police would be made to look innocent," Wong said, adding: "That is as much independence that you can get from the (Prime Minister) Najib (Tun Razak) administration."

Wong was referring to Hanif's recent statement that Bersih 3.0 had communist elements and was aiming to overthrow the government through a coup.

Hanif was quoted in a Bernama report stating he had recognised pro-communist individuals who were involved in the 1970s demonstrations during Bersih 3.0 based on photographs and images taken from the rally.

"The tactics of using provocateurs to cause the demonstrators to clash with police and to bring children along in the hope they would get injured were tactics learnt from past pro-communist demonstrations," he had reportedly said.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu called Hanif's appointment an embarrassment and said that the panel was not independent; while DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang urged Hanif to reject the offer.

Hanif, 73, was the longest serving IGP, holding the position for 20 years from 1974 to 1994.

In 1993, he became the only serving public servant to be awarded non-ex-officio Malaysia's highest non-royal award which carries the titleship of "Tun".

Recently, Hanif was conferred an honourary Doctor of Laws by the chancellor of the University of Buckingham, Lord Simon Tanlaw, making him the first Malaysian to be conferred such an award from the university.
He holds a basic degree in law from the British university and also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Malaya, Singapore.
Hanif is also the deputy chairman of Genting Malaysia Bhd (formerly known as Resorts World Bhd) and the chairman of General Corporation Bhd and sits on the boards of AMMB Holdings Bhd, AmBank (M) Bhd, AmIslamic Bank Bhd, AMFB Holdings Bhd and AmInvestment Bank Bhd.



刘永山拜访峇东加里水灾灾黎

(峇东加里10日讯)新古毛州选区领养议员兼甘榜东姑州议员刘永山今日率领乌雪行动党国会选区联委会委员、乌雪县议员以及峇东加里武吉嶂郎新村村委会和民友路新村村委会一起拜访峇东加里一带的水灾灾民。 


此外,刘永山也率员拜访位于峇东加里通往云顶高原的"32间"单层商店。 


这次拜访的主要目的是要来了解商民在这场水灾所面对的损失,以便能够了解水灾发生的真正原因以及损失的数额。 


由于不久之前加影也发生数场大水灾,因此刘永山也携带加影市议员李继香,以便能够在经验上协助灾民和村委会进行登记工作。 


刘永山说:"根据土地局的初步估计,共有约900户人家在这场水灾中受影响。由于当局有可能只是记录住宅区的受影响人数,因此我们今天也拜访受水灾影响的商家,协助他们获得一定程度的赔偿。"

刘永山也将会通过村委会整理所有的资料,让后把所有的资料呈交给土地局。

KUALA LUMPUR: Seorang pegawai Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) menafikan bahawa badan antarabangsa tersebut terlibat dalam 'meluluskan' senjata seperti gas pemedih mata sebagai reaksi kepada dakwaan kerajaan Malaysia bahawa gas pemedih mata yang digunakan dalam Bersih 3.0 adalah diluluskan PBB.

"PBB tidak menetapkan piawai antarabangsa terhadap sebarang jenis bahan iritasi, atau meluluskan 'CS Gas' sebagai bahan pengawal rusuhan," kata Dr Lin Mui Kiang, penyelarasan pakar PBB bagi Malaysia.

Beliau merujuk kepada satu laporan oleh akhbar milik MCA, The Star yang memetik Ketua Penolong Pengarah Jabatan Logistik (Persenjataan), ACP Syed Mustafa Raja Syed Nordin sebagai mempertahankan penggunaan gas pemedih mata, bom gas pemedih mata, kanister gas pemedih mata dan semburan lada di perhimpunan Bersih 3.0.

"Kesemuanya diimport dari Amerika Syarikat (AS), Kanada dan Switzerland serta mematuhi piawaian antarabangsa yang ditetapkan Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB). Alat ini mengandungi 'gas CS' yang diluluskan oleh PBB sebagai ejen kawalan rusuhan. Kebanyakan negara mengesahkan penggunaan gas ini tidak membawa maut," beliau dipetik sebagai berkata.

Mengutuk kekurangan profesionalisme oleh media perdana Malaysia dan pegawai awam, Lin turut melahirkan rasa kesal bahawa PBB tidak dirujuk terlebih dahulu sebelum The Star membuat laporan tersebut, yang disifatkan beliau jauh tersasar daripada ketepatan maklumat.

Beliau mengingatkan walaupun dalam situasi di mana kekerasan dan senjata perlu digunakan, pihak berkuasa mestilah bertindak secara terkawal, minimakan kerosakan dan kecederaan, hormat dan lindungi nyawa.

"Kita di PBB menyeru agar para wartawan untuk menyelidik dan melaporkan secara betul dan tepat atas segala maklumat dan prosedur yang melibatkan PBB. Kita percaya bahawa professionalisme sebegini perlu juga ada pada pegawai awam," kata Lin.

Sebanyak lebih 250,000 peserta telah menbanjiri Kuala Lumpur pada April 28 yang lepas untuk menyatakan sokongan terhadap Bersih 3.0 untuk menuntut penambah-baikan segera pada sistem pilihanraya negara.

Lebih 500 peserta telah ditahan, ramai yang tercedera termasuk polis dan wartawan.

Kerajaan Barisan Nasional terdahulunya telah menolak tawaran seorang pelapor khas Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) Frank William La Rue, untuk menyiasat Bersih secara objektif.

CAUGHT LYING BY THE UN: From Utusan to NST to the Star, Najib shames M'sia

The United Nations in Malaysia would like to refer to the article published in The Star newspaper on May 7, 2012 titled "Police: Tear gas used at rally safe, UN-approved'.

We very much regret that the UN in Malaysia was not consulted before the publication of this article as it contains serious inaccuracies. The UN has consistently condemned the excessive use of force, including through the use of tear gas.

Please also note that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council have on various occasions publicly expressed concerns about reliable reports indicating that civilians who died from tear gas suffered complications from gas inhalation, and that security forces have been firing metal tear gas canisters from grenade launchers into crowds.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression after his mission to the Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) in December 2011 noted that "while the use of tear gas to disperse a crowd may be legitimate under certain circumstances, tear gas canisters should never be fired directly at demonstrators."

Moreover, unlike what is alleged in the article, the UN does not set international standards on different kinds of irritants, nor has the UN approved 'CS Gas' as a 'riot control' agent.

Journalists AND public officials should be professional

As far as the use of force is concerned, the relevant UN instrument is the Basic Principles on the use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials, which was adopted by the Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in 1990, not the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) of 1993. I provide its general provisions below:

1. Governments and law enforcement agencies shall adopt and implement rules and regulations on the use of force and firearms against persons by law enforcement officials. In developing such rules and regulations, Governments and law enforcement agencies shall keep the ethical issues associated with the use of force and firearms constantly under review.

2. Governments and law enforcement agencies should develop a range of means as broad as possible and equip law enforcement officials with various types of weapons and ammunition that would allow for a differentiated use of force and firearms. These should include the development of non-lethal incapacitating weapons for use in appropriate situations, with a view to increasingly restraining the application of means capable of causing death or injury to persons. For the same purpose, it should also be possible for law enforcement officials to be equipped with self-defensive equipment such as shields, helmets, bullet-proof vests and bullet-proof means of transportation, in order to decrease the need to use weapons of any kind.

3. The development and deployment of non-lethal incapacitating weapons should be carefully evaluated in order to minimize the risk of endangering uninvolved persons, and the use of such weapons should be carefully controlled.

4. Law enforcement officials, in carrying out their duty, shall, as far as possible, apply non-violent means before resorting to the use of force and firearms. They may use force and firearms only if other means remain ineffective or without any promise of achieving the intended result.

5. Whenever the lawful use of force and firearms is unavoidable, law enforcement officials shall:

( a ) Exercise restraint in such use and act in proportion to the seriousness of the offence and the legitimate objective to be achieved;

( b ) Minimize damage and injury, and respect and preserve human life;

( c ) Ensure that assistance and medical aid are rendered to any injured or affected persons at the earliest possible moment;

( d ) Ensure that relatives or close friends of the injured or affected person are notified at the earliest possible moment.

6. Where injury or death is caused by the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials, they shall report the incident promptly to their superiors, in accordance with principle 22.

7. Governments shall ensure that arbitrary or abusive use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials is punished as a criminal offence under their law.

8. Exceptional circumstances such as internal political instability or any other public emergency may not be invoked to justify any departure from these basic principles.

We at the United Nations appeal to all journalists to correctly and accurately research and report all matters and procedures related to the UN. We believe that such professionalism should also extend to all public officials.

Dalang Penculik Nayati Sudah Terbang Ke Eropah

Dalang disebalik insiden penculikan kanak-kanak berusia 12 tahun Nayati Shamelin Moodliar dipercayai telah melarikan diri ke luar negara sebaik sahaja kanak-kanak itu dibebaskan minggu lalu.

Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Bukit Aman Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin berkata polis sedang meminta bantuan Interpol bagi mengesan lelaki terbabit.

Beliau hari ini mengesahkan lima suspek — empat lelaki, seorang wanita — setakat ini telah ditahan bagi menyiasat kes berkenaan.

Kesemua suspek ditahan dalam operasi berasingan di Perak dan Selangor antara Ahad hingga awal hari ini.

Turut difahamkan pihak polis turut berjaya menemui lebih dari RM100,000, dipercayai sebahagian daripada wang tebusan yang dibayar keluarga Nayati kepada penculik terbabit.

Jumlah sebenar wang tebusan bagaimanapun masih tidak didedahkan.

Pasukan khas dari Bukit Aman turut merampas satu laptop dan telefon bimbit yang digunakan penjenayah untuk berhubung dengan keluarga Nayati bagi berunding berkenaan tebusan kanak-kanak Belanda ini.

Nayati diculik ketika sedang berjalan seorang diri berhampiran sekolahnya di Mont Kiara International School.

Dia dibebaskan Khamis lalu di Hentian Rehat dan Rawat Sungai Buloh selepas keluarganya membayar wang tebusan.

Kes ini telah mendapat perhatian umum dengan poster kanak-kanak terbabit diedarkan di sepanjang jalan.

Nayati dikatakan telah ditarik dua lelaki ke dalam sebuah kereta bewarna hitam tidak jauh dari sekolahnya.

Singapore diplomats visit Pas Command Center... fuuuhhh!

I waited for two days to write this. And now that its confirmed, here I go...

What were some Singapore diplomats doing at Pas Command Center in Kedah yesterday? Its okay to have meetings with Mentri Besar Azizan at his office in Alor Star but to step into Pas Command Center is completely out of context.

What was their motive? They could always turn down the MB's invitation, knowing very well the political sentiment in Malaysia, and also in the Republic.

After all, such an action is against all diplomatic norms.

We welcome the visit by Minister of State (MOS) for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli for three days in Malaysia. His program includes meetings with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Richard Riot Jaem, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop and also a trip to Kedah and Perlis.

In Kedah, he had meetings with Azizan and Md Isa Sabu in Kangar. He was also scheduled to have and audience with the Raja of Perlis His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.

But the 'program' went beyond arrangements.

Singapore ruling party PAP has always been associated with Malaysia's opposition DAP. And now that DAP, Pas and PKR are together in the Pakatan Rakyat, I don't think its wise for any diplomats to rub shoulder with them. If they really support the Opposition, better not to make it public.

There were accusations that PAP has been providing political funds to the Opposition, and that the DAP-PAP connection is undeniably making some Umno leaders and members to believe that Singapore do have some 'hands on' in Malaysian politics.

We still cannot accept what former US ambassador to Malaysia John Mallot did in tarnishing the country's good image. It was a blatant act to interfere in a country's politics.

I believe the Singapore High Commission will deny this but we have too many witnesses to testify for this posting.

I do not expect any comment from our government, especially the Foreign Ministry but I do hope Singapore diplomats - and those from other countries - will observe the diplomatic code first before deciding on anything about the host nations.


Khalid Ibrahim Masih Ahli UMNO Bukti Umno Tidak Kemaskini Rekod Keahlian

Shah Alam: Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim menafikan dakwaan bahawa beliau masih merupakan ahli Umno di Pasir Tuntung seperti ditulis sebuah blog pro-Umno baru-baru ini.

Beliau sebaliknya berkata, Umno mungkin tidak mengemaskini keahlian di kawasan terbabit.

"Saya tidak tahu saya masih ahli. Pasir Tuntung itu alamat rumah mak saya. Boleh jadi Umno tidak kemaskini.

"Sepatutnya macam Keadilan (PKR), jika orang itu tukar (parti) maka mereka batalkan keahlian," katanya dalam sidang media selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat mingguan exco di sini hari ini.

Menyentuh mengenai teguran Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah berhubung isu air, kerajaan negeri mendesak agar Kerajaan Persekutuan segera melaksanakan penstrukturan semula industri pembekalan air di negeri itu.

Abdul Khalid berkata, kerajaan negeri turut berharap agar Menteri Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui agar tidak berdolak dalih dan menggunakan kuasa untuk memastikan syarikat konsensi memberi persetujuan.

Penstrukturan semula industri air

Ujar beliau, penstrukturan itu diperuntukan oleh Akta Industri Pembekalan Air 2006 (WSIA) yang membolehkan kerajaan negeri mengambilalih pengurusan air.

"Kita amat hargai pandangan Sultan Selangor yang mengambil berat perkembangan yang berlaku di negeri ini dan setiap teguran oleh Baginda akan dijadikan panduan untuk meningkatkan keberkesanan urus tadbir negeri.

"Maka kita mendesak Kerajaan Persekutuan mengambil teguran Sultan dan laksanakan penstrukturan semula ini," katanya.

Semalam, Baginda mengingatkan kerajaan negeri supaya tidak mempolitikkan isu air demi kepentingan rakyat dan pembangunan negeri itu.

Sebelum ini kerajaan negeri menawarkan penyelesaian arbitrasi antarabangsa untuk memberi keadilan kepada semua pihak dan sepatutnya syarikat konsesi tidak mempunyai masalah untuk terima tawaran kerana ia munasabah.

Dalam pada itu, exco negeri Dr Xavier Jayakumar pula berkata kerajaan negeri turut memperuntukkan perbelanjaan sehingga RM5 juta bagi mengatasi masalah banjir.

PUTRAJAYA, May 9 — Tun Hanif Omar was named today as the head of a six-man independent panel to investigate allegations of police violence against journalists and other participants of last month's Bersih 3.0 rally for electoral reforms.

Besides the former Inspector General of Police, the other members of the panel are former Chief Judge of Borneo Tan Sri Steve Shim, Sinar Harian managing director Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, legal adviser to Media Chinese International Liew Peng Chuan, Petronas corporate affairs senior general manager Datuk Medan Abdullah and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia psychology Prof Dr Ruszmi Ismail.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who announced the names today, said the panel was expected to convene its first meeting to set its terms of reference in the next few days.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had pledged last week that "credible, experienced and respectable" individuals would form the independent panel tasked with investigating allegations of police brutality.

Najib added that he, along with the entire government and members of the public, are keeping a close eye on investigations into the allegations that journalists, both local and foreign, had been roughed up during the rally for free and fair elections.

Six local pressmen and about 12 photographers and journalists from the foreign media were reportedly assaulted during the fracas on April 28, after the police sprayed water cannons and tear gas to disperse Bersih 3.0 protesters.

Both local and foreign media groups have condemned the hard-handed tactics used on the media, whom they pointed out were merely doing their jobs.

Chaos reigned on the streets of Kuala Lumpur for over four hours after 3pm on April 28 when police fired tear gas and water cannons and chased protesters down the streets of the capital to disperse what had initially started out as a peaceful protest calling for free and fair elections.

The Bar Council has said that its observers found that police brutality at the rally was "magnified" as compared to already chaotic scenes during a similar gathering for free and fair elections last July 9.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons after some demonstrators breached the barricade in front of DBKL and rushed into Dataran Merdeka, which the court had barred the public from entering across that particular weekend.

Police fired as far as the DBKL premises, which are across Jalan Parlimen, and the move broke up the crowd who fled helter-skelter but police chased them down at Jalan Tun Perak and Jalan Raja Laut.

In an immediate reaction, Bersih coalition co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan objected to Hanif's appointment and needed somebody independent.

She said she was "deeply horrified by Hanif's appointment", especially after his recent comments on Bersih 3.0.

Ambiga (left) said, "As a lawyer, Hanif should know that his previous comments would immediately disqualify him and all the other former IGPs who made some extreme statements from sitting on the panel. We trust that he will do the right thing and decline the appointment. In any event it is our view that the government ought to have appointed Suhakam and accepted the invitation from the UN rapporteur to assist the inquiring panel." 

In another immediate reaction, veteran opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang said in a tweet, "He should decline the appointment after his horrific support of Najib's wild allegation on coup d'état attempt or Bersih 3.0 panel will lose all credibility."
