The Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Testing and Commissiong of System Works for the Ampang Line Extension Project").

-Rafizi Ramli

Forty Two Point One Nine Five

I did it! I ran my first ever marathon covering a total distance of 42.195 kilometers across the city of Kuala Lumpur in the wee hours of the morning with total success in a decent time of 5 hours, 20 minutes and 30 seconds. To say I'm overjoyed is an understatement. I was so emotional at the finish line, I almost cried.

Never in my wildest dreams did I even think that I would attempt a marathon and yet here I am finally completing one :D I had no targets, no goals, with only one thought, which was to cross that finish line in decent condition and in one piece.

To say I didn't suffer would be a lie, especially in the later stages of the marathon where I suffered horrendous cramping from the 30KM mark onwards. But I didn't let it stop me, I gritted my teeth and I plodded on gamely to the finish.

Crossing that finish line is going to be an experience I would cherish for a lifetime. I came away from it unscathed and am now eagerly looking forward to my next marathon which will likely be in three months time. Yes, I'm a sucker for punishment ... LOL!

Do drop by my running blog Happy Feet for a more detailed write up on my marathon experience.

[VIDEO] MIC Tandus Modal, Sengaja Putarbelit Kenyataan Salahuddin Ayub

Kalau hina Hindu, kami pertama bantah - DHPP

"Umno pernah guna isu paria. MIC mendiamkan diri.

-HD

Salahuddin : Tiada Niat Hina Perarakan Thaipusam

The Art of Marital Conversation

Posted: 25 Jun 2012 06:03 AM PDT

The problem with communication … is the illusion that it has been accomplished.
~George Bernard Shaw

The day at work has been horrific. Emails never stopped. The voicemail light kept flashing. The boss needed the information yesterday. And to top it all off, you had a fight with your wife as you left this morning.

You feel the tension coming from the house when you get out of your car in the driveway. The kids are in their rooms doing homework and your wife approaches you and says the words most men dread: "we need to talk."

It seems at this moment, most men have the fight or flight response. I can berate her about the timing of things, continue to insist that I'm right and she's wrong. Or I can shrug it off and disappear with the TV, the Internet, alcohol, or the work I conveniently brought home.

What is it about talking that is so difficult for men? Granted, this does not apply to all men, but most have some trouble with deep conversation. Especially when it comes to conversing with our spouse.

A brief history

Men have been educated from birth to compete, judge, demand, and diagnose. We are very adept at seeing a problem that needs fixing and developing a way to fix the problem. Unfortunately, this fix is according to the man, possibly not taking into account those around him. This is due in part to our learning to think and communicate in terms of what is "right" or what is "wrong."

To add to this, we often express our feelings in terms of what has been "done to us" rather than being independent of those around us. We mix up our needs and we ask for what we'd like using demands, guilt, or even the promise of rewards. This should come as no surprise since this is how many of us were raised by our parents.

At best, the basic ways men think and communicate hinder communication and create both misunderstanding and frustration. At worst, they can lead to anger, depression and even violence.

Communicating with your spouse do's and don'ts

Talk face to face. Anytime you are in a discussion with your spouse that is beyond the scheduling or surface level, do it face to face. If this is not possible, the phone will work, although this can limit the connection and increase the possibility of misunderstandings. Never try to cover deeper issues via email or text messages.
Turn off other distractions during the conversation. If you're working on the computer, minimize the work or better yet, shut the whole thing off. If you're watching TV, turn it off. If you are afraid of missing something in the game, get Tivo.

Don't answer the phone. If it rings in the middle of the conversation, you have voicemail for a reason. Let it do it's job.

Take the time to listen to her point of view. You are only one part of the relationship. Consider her side of things and ask for clarity if you don't get what she's saying. You don't have to agree with everything she says to still love her. But it will help to understand her if you listen.

Documents: Dr M 'consented' to Scorpene misdeeds by John Berthelsen, Asia Sentinel

Posted: 25 Jun 2012 05:15 AM PDT

Leaked prosecution documents show a pattern of official misdeeds in two countries

A two-decade campaign by the French state-owned defense giant DCN and its subsidiaries to sell submarines to the Malaysian ministry of defense has resulted in a long tangle of blackmail, bribery, influence peddling, misuse of corporate assets and concealment, among other allegations, according to documents made available to Asia Sentinel.

Some of the misdeeds appear to have taken place with the knowledge of top French government officials including then-foreign Minister Alain Juppe and with the consent of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, according to the documents, comprising 133 separate files and hundreds of pages. They were presented to the French Prosecuting Magistrate at the Court de Grand Instance de Paris in May and June of 2011. French lawyers have begun preparing subpoenas for leading Malaysian politicians including Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, the current Defense Minister, Ahmad Zaki Hamad and several other figures.

The documents were sent anonymously to Asia Sentinel via a circuitous route that took them to Brussels, Belgium; Lagos, Nigeria; Brazzaville,Congo; Libreville, Gabon; then to Leipzig, Germany and finally to Hong Kong. The documents, written in French, can be found in a collection in Asia Sentinel's Scribd account.

ImageClick here to view documents.

The documents were compiled as a result of a raid on April 7, 2010, when scores of investigators from the anti-organized and financial crime unit of the French Directorate of Judicial Police swooped down on DCN's offices at 19 rue du Colonel Pierre Avia in Paris's 15th Arondissement, and four other locations, demanding that stunned officials give them access to safes, files and computers. They collected thousands of documents that form the bulk of the files delivered to Asia Sentinel.

Together, they present a damning indictment of Malaysian officials whose goal was to steer a €114.96 million (US$114.3 million at current exchange rates) payment through a private company called Perimekar Sdn Bhd, wholly owned by Abdul Razak Baginda. Razak Baginda was then the head of a Malaysian think tank called Malaysian Strategic Research, which was connected with the United Malays National Organization, the country's biggest political party.

The payment appears to have been in violation of the OECD Convention on Bribery, which France ratified on June 30, 2000. On Sep. 29, 2000, according to document D00015, DCNI, a DCN subsidiary, "took corrective actions" after France joined the bribery convention. Contracts concluded after that date were to be routed to Eurolux and Gifen, companies held by Jean-Marie Boivin, DCN's former finance chief, and headquartered in Luxembourg and Malta respectively Boivin is being investigated for having played a central role in the "corrective actions," with what were described as "outlandish commissions" traveling through the welter of companies that he established in tax havens around the world. Among the documents is one that shows Boivin paid to send Razak Baginda on a jaunt to Macau with his then-girlfriend, Altantuya Shaariibuu, a Mongolian national who was later murdered by two of Najib's bodyguards.

"A separate agreement sets other compensation consisting of a fixed amount independent of the actual price of the main contract," one document reads in reference to the payment to Perimekar. "This has been made to be consistent with [DCN's] internal rules and [its subsidiary] Thales and those of the OECD. The beneficiaries of these funds are not difficult to imagine: the clan and family relations of Mr. Razak Baginda. In addition, these funds will find their way to the dominant political party." Malaysia's dominant political party was and is UMNO.

Malaysian Defense Spree

The story in essence began when Najib Tun Razak was appointed defense minister in Mahathir's cabinet in 1991 and embarked on a massive buildup of the country's military, arranging for the purchase of tanks, Sukhoi jets, coastal patrol boats – and submarines. That kicked off a stiff competition between French, German, Swedish, Russian and Dutch manufacturers, who in turn went looking for the most effective cronies of the Malaysian leadership to help them out. By 1995, according to document DC00078, DCN's subsidiary Thales was losing out to the German manufacturer Kockums AB, which was represented by Amin Shah, dubbed "Malaysia's Onassis" because of his business and shipping interests, who was close to then-finance minister Daim Zainuddin and was suspected of being a front man for Daim's interests.

French authorities seemed to counter by paying a "consultancy fee" according to a handwritten document called a "Consultancy Agreement" signed in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 1, 1996 between DCN International representative Emmanel Aris and a Malaysian Army major named Abdul Rahim Saad. The purpose was "to reintroduce DCNI in the short list of tenders after it was rejected by the Government of Malaysia" on Dec. 14, 1995, according to the French documents.

The remuneration was to be paid in two lots, US$20,000 before Jan. 31, 1996, and US$80,000 after acceptance. Apparently it was successful. Rahim is now managing director of a company called ARS Sehajatera Sdn Bhd., which supplies logistical equipment to the Malaysian armed forces.

However, there are questions whether Rahim was ever paid. A memo found in the DCN files said he "expresses discontent and proclaims his support for the Agosta [the Spanish manufacturer of the Scorpenes for DCN] submarines since 1996 but he 'has not had any news from DCNI to date.' He says he organized shady activities to promote the French bid…He complains of not having been paid for his services."

Eventually, according to the documents, Amin Shah began to lose his influence with the government after Daim Zainuddin left his position as finance minister. DCN and its subsidiaries began casting around for other sources of influence within the Malaysian government.

An attempt to woo Tan Sri Razali Ismail, one of Malaysia's most distinguished diplomats, failed. "It was ultimately unsuccessful and Mr. Abdul Razak Baginda was chosen in his place," the documents note. "The role of the latter was to facilitate the submission procedure to the Malaysian government and the responsible ministers, in particular the Minister of Defense, with whom he claimed to have a close relationship."

According to Document D000112, "…Razak Baginda has maintained excellent relationships with the Defense Minister and Prime Minister. Moreover, his wife, Mazlinda Makhzan, is a close friend of the Defense Minister's wife. Thus, Baginda has become the center of the network. Both companies are at the center of this network: Terasasi, related to Baginda, and Perimekar, which was initially controlled by Mohamad Ibrahim Mohamad Nor," who was also close to Daim Zainuddin. However, with Daim stepping down as finance minister after a spat with Mahathir, Razak Baginda took over sole proprietorship of that company through his wife.

"The major defense contracts in Malaysia as in other countries require substantial money transfers to individuals and/or [political] organizations," the document noted. "In Malaysia, other than individuals, the ruling party [UMNO] is the largest beneficiary [rather than Perimekar, the company to which the commission was directed]. Consultants [agents or companies] are often used as a political network to facilitate such transfers and receive commissions for their principals."

The Heart of the Deal

Over the next few years, the documents show, as the contract came closer to fruition Razak Baginda and Najib maneuvered in France to get the best possible deal for themselves and UMNO, establishing a tangle of companies through which funds would ultimately pass.

Their activities included the founding of several companies including Perimekar in 2000 as a vehicle to funnel the €114.9 million commission to Razak Baginda and others, with Razak Baginda's wife the principal shareholder. The plan appears to have had the approval of Mahathir. A diplomatic cable to Foreign Minister Juppe said, "The company chosen by the government for the submarine project is…Perimekar. This choice is the subject of an official notification from the Malaysian Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Defence... Note that this decision of the Ministry of Finance was taken while the Prime Minister himself held the post of Minister of Finance, after the departure of Tun Daim."

The French company appears to have had no illusions as to Perimekar's function. Documents note that "Perimekar was a limited liability company with a capital of MR5 million (€1.4 million) of which 1 million is available. It was created in August 1999 … it has no record of sales during 2000. Its ownership is in the process of restructuring."

As Asia Sentinel has previously reported, document D00087 shows that Najib demanded a US$1 billion "condition" for Perimekar Sdn Bhd's "stay in France." The notes, however, don't make it clear exactly what that means. The information is contained in a note faxed from Francois Dupont, the Asian representative of Thales International Asia, to his bosses but the notation in the documents presented to the court doesn't elaborate. Dupont indicated that a meeting with Najib on July 14, 2001 would take place with the above mentioned "condition" but it was not known if the meeting transpired.

Along the way, Jasbir Singh Chahl, one of Razak Baginda's associates at Perimekar, decided he hadn't been paid enough. In several memos to DCN, Jasbir Chahl demanded a full fourth of Perimekar's total €114.96 million. Despite several demands, there is no indication that Chahl has ever been paid. He has been subpoenaed as a witness in the case, but after first indicating to French lawyers that he would cooperate, he has since said he knows nothing of the affair. He is said to be extremely ill and suffering from some form of cancer.

Other documents made public by Asia Sentinel earlier show that at least €36 million flowed from the DCNS subsidiary to Terasasi Hong Kong Ltd., whose principal officers are listed as Razak Baginda and his father. Najib was defense minister from 1991 through the time when the submarines were delivered in 2002. Terasasi only exists as a name on the wall of a Wanchai district accounting firm in Hong Kong.

Sembunyi Tarikh Pilihan Raya, Rakyat Tidak Sabar ‘Kapankan’ Umno-BN

Posted: 25 Jun 2012 06:36 AM PDT

Dr Mahathir sendiri kata "Umno is rotten to the core". Dah rosak, dah punah dan dah busuk," katanya lagi. -selangorku

Is Burma regime inciting Rakhine conflict to discredit Aung San Suu Kyi?

Source: Is Burma regime inciting Rakhine conflict to discredit Aung San Suu Kyi?

Conflict between Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims could force opposition leader to make an unpopular intervention

BY Edward Loxton LAST UPDATED AT 07:49 ON Tue 12 Jun 2012

CHIANG MAI – As sectarian violence continues unabated in Burma's westernmost state of Arakan, suspicion is growing that the clashes between Buddhists and minority Muslims are part of a government plot to discredit the hugely popular opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and weaken the threat she poses to its military-backed power base.

"The violence is clearly well orchestrated and not as spontaneous as we are being led to believe," said Burma expert and author Bertil Lintner, whose latest book, Great Game East, is about to be published. The book deals with "the power play in the eastern border regions of the Indian subcontinent".

Dozens have so far died and hundreds of homes have been burnt down in a week-long wave of deadly clashes between Muslim Rohingya and Buddhist Rakhine communities along the western, Andaman Sea coast, of Burma.

Religious and racial tensions have always run high in this backward state – known in Burmese as Rakhine – where the Rohingya minority are denied many basic rights, even Burmese citizenship. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya, most of them men, have fled, either overland to neighbouring Bangladesh – where they are classed as illegal immigrants – or even in open boats to Thailand and Malaysia.

Burma observers are asking why the long-dormant tensions have broken surface at this point in time, when a newly-elected government in the capital, Naypyidaw, is winning international approval for the small advances it is making in the areas of political liberalisation and human rights.

"The answer is plain to see," Lintner told The Week. "The government is very worried about the support commanded by Suu Kyi. It wants to force her into a position where she has to make a pro-Rohingya public statement that could damage her popularity among Burma's Buddhists, where anti-Muslim sentiment runs high. On the other hand, if she remains silent she will disappoint those who support her firm stand on human rights."

A long-time observer of the Burma scene, who requested anonymity, agreed.
"Suu Kyi is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't," he said. "She is in a very difficult situation, which could seriously damage her reputation and erode much of her popularity."

Maung Zarni, a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics, agreed that the government could benefit from the crisis because it diverted attention from its continuing military efforts to subdue other restive ethnic groups.

Fighting is particularly fierce in Kachin State, where Lintner recently toured the Sino-Burmese border area and confirmed that up to 300,000 Kachin refugees had sought shelter in China from bitter fighting between the Burma Army and the Kachin Independence Army.

Lintner pointed out that the Arakan crisis comes at a critical time for Suu Kyi, just as she is preparing to leave on a European visit, starting on 15 June.

"She will be expected to make public statements on the violence in Rakhine State," he said. "This is such a difficult challenge that she might even call off her trip to Europe."

Suu Kyi was further embarrassed this week by anti-Rohingya statements by two human rights activists who were previously among her staunchest supporters.

"The Rohingya are not a Burmese ethnic group," said Ko Ko Gyi, a leader of the now-disbanded 88 Students Generation activist group, who was recently given an amnesty after serving five years' imprisonment for defying the former military regime.

"The root cause of the violence… comes from across the border and foreign countries," he said.

"This is astonishing stuff coming from a supposed human rights activist," said one Western observer. "Such statements go a long way to support the belief that the government is trying to manipulate opposition circles wherever it can in order to sabotage Aung San Suu Kyi." ·

"Killer Dog"s Owner Fined RM2,000

COMMENT: My immediate reaction is what a huge disappointment that an owner of a so called "killer dog" gets away with a measly fine of  RM2000.

Measly because the elderly gentleman is now dead.

Why didn't the court ban the human creature from ever owning a dog?

Send her for community service but not near any animal shelter, please!

And what happens to the dog itself? It should be spared

[VIDEO] Rakyat Mesir Sambut Dr. Mursi Sebagai Presiden Yang Baru

Posted: 25 Jun 2012 01:37 AM PDT

Mereka memandu kereta sambil mendengar radio. Sebaik menerima berita kemenangan Mursi, mereka memberhentikan kereta lantas sujud tanda syukur di atas anugerah Allah... -SO

If Najib not 'pendatang', then all Malaysians are not!

Though Najib, the PM of 1Malaysia, has his roots in Makassar, Sulawesi, he is not a 'pendatang'.

So, naturally, all Malaysians whether Chinese, Indian 'dan lain-lain', are not 'pendatangs' too.

Najib: Chinese not 'pendatang'

The undemocractic Lim Guan Eng

Posted: 24 Jun 2012 09:25 PM PDT

I do not wish to call him a dictator but dictators usually hate criticism. A dictator will not admit his mistakes either and will not tolerate adverse reporting by the media, notably the newspapers.

But Lim Guan Eng subscribes to this rule. He banned Utusan Malaysia. He deplores all BN media and barred some of their journalists from his office and his functions.

Whether its Utusan or not, he forgot one fact - that journalists, irrespective of their organisations, are one. They speak in unison when their professionalism is affected of challenged. They are very protective of each other and will not let anything to come between their relationship and duty.

(Read Stopthelies on the Chinese media attacks on LGE)

Now that LGE is under attacks, including from the Chinese media, he should realise that such a practice is deplorable and regrettable. No one can stop journalists from covering any event as stipulated in its international charter.

And for all the 'free media' bandwagon LGE and his friends in Pakatan Rakyat have been shouting around, this does not reflect their intention at all.

Under PM Najib, no media had been imposed under strict restriction except for warnings by the Home Ministry for their anti-racial and anti-religious propaganda. The BN government takes criticism openly and leaves it to the pro-govt media to play its part in countering such attacks.

Pakatan Rakyat has got Roket, Harakah, Aliran, the Bar Council website and other anti-govt media on its side. They are more mean than that of the BN but the govt will not bar their so called-reporters to cover the government's events, let along shooing them off.

How democratic is DAP, anyway and when was the last time it called for a party election?

What is LGE afraid of? He has a strong and formidable media machinery in Penang and in his party and they are well-paid, am I not right? Somebody told me Pakatan Rakyat allocates about RM100,000 per month for its anti-BN bloggers and news portal in Penang alone!

Is Pakatan Rakyat a dictatorial regime? Not only in Penang, similar things happen elsewhere. Nik Aziz has been doing it in Kelantan while Khalid really grips on Selangor media. I think if Pakatan forms a government after the next general election, they will clamp all pro-BN media.

I wonder what will happen to Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times, Berita Harian, The Star and the TV stations under Media Prima Group if Pakatan takes over Putrajaya!

LGE is a sourgrape. For all his promise for a free media in Penang and Malaysia, he is actually more evil than he looks. His only concern is for the people to have a good impression about him, that everything he says is all truth.

He never want to admit his mistakes since administering Penang since the last election and this actually what the media is trying to correct.

But LGE is another leader of a democratic party!

Airmataku Mengalir Melihat Gambar Ini...

Gambar yang memberikan 1000 makna.

Ia amat menyentuh perasaan GB.
