Last week, Manssor Arbabsiar pleaded guilty to plotting what U.S. officials have termed "a significant attack in the United States." Attorney General Eric Holder called the Iranian-born American's admission "a reminder of the exceptional efforts of our law enforcement and intelligence agencies in protecting America against terrorist attacks." Yes, that's quite right. Holder added that this outcome demonstrates that the U.S. will hold "accountable those who plan such actions." No, that's patently false.
Arbabsiar has admitted that he was working at the direction of the Quds Force — the most elite branch of Iran's powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The IRGC reports directly to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Is there anyone who seriously believes that Khamenei, the IRGC, or the Quds Force will be held accountable? Is there anyone who seriously believes the U.S. government will even try?
Fecklessness in response to attacks on Americans is a bipartisan tradition going back well over a quarter century. For example, in 1973, the Palestine Liberation Organization's Black September faction assassinated the U.S. ambassador to Sudan, Cleo Noel, as well as Deputy Chief of Mission George Curtis Moore. As my colleague Lee Smith writes:
The State Department knew from the very outset of the attack that Yasser Arafat was personally directing the operation, but neither Nixon nor any other American president ever punished the PLO chairman, who lived to become a favored guest in the Clinton White House.Ten years later, after the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut was bombed, killing 241 Marines, President Reagan vowed: "Those who directed this atrocity must be dealt justice, and they will be." But justice was never dealt to Hezbollah — now the best-armed, deadliest, and most powerful faction in Lebanon — or to Iran's rulers, on whose instructions Hezbollah carried out the slaughter.
In 1996, Egyptian cleric Omar Abdel-Rahman, the "Blind Sheikh," was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. But his terrorist organization, al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, was in no way held accountable, and in 1997 it was responsible for the massacre of 58 foreign tourists in Luxor. Last year, after the fall of the Mubarak government, al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya established an Egyptian political party, and its current leader, Sheikh Rifa'ah Taha, was among those who organized the attack on the U.S. embassy in Cairo on the 9/11 anniversary — an attack that included the raising of an al-Qaeda flag above the compound.
Also in 1996, 19 American servicemen were killed at Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia. According to Louis Freeh, who was FBI director at the time, President Clinton took no actions — not against those responsible, and not against those who sent them. Clinton refused even to ask the Saudis to allow FBI agents to question suspects they were holding. (Freeh noted, however, that Clinton did ask Crown Prince Abdullah for a contribution to the Clinton Presidential Library.)
Immediately following the attacks of 9/11, President George W. Bush declared that the U.S. would no longer distinguish between terrorists and terrorist masters. He told a joint session of Congress: "From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime." But Bush never fully implemented that policy, and President Obama rejected it outright.
The killing of U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens along with three other Americans evoked this pledge from Vice President Joe Biden: "We will find and bring to justice the men who did this." By now it should be clear that we are menaced not just by "the men" who carry out such attacks — but by the organizations, regimes, and ideologies behind them.
The plot for which Manssor Arbabsiar will go to jail was not authorized by some rogue faction beyond the control of Iran's rulers. Rather, those rulers should be held responsible for their plan to explode a bomb in a restaurant in the capital city of the United States in order to assassinate the Saudi ambassador along with everyone else in the immediate vicinity. Once upon a time this would have been called what it is: an act of war.
Also last week, the U.S. Treasury Department attempted to call attention to the fact that Iran continues to give safe haven to senior al-Qaeda operatives — operatives who maintain a "core pipeline" that moves "funding and fighters" to Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and elsewhere. "We will continue targeting this crucial source of al-Qaeda's funding and support, as well as highlight Iran's ongoing complicity in this network's operation," said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen. Three times in less than two years the Treasury has designated al-Qaeda operatives in Iran, according to Thomas Joscelyn, a colleague at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies who keeps careful track of such things.
So here are a few conclusions that should, by now, be apparent: (1) Iran's rulers collaborate with al-Qaeda, a terrorist organization with which the Obama administration says we are at war. (2) Iran's rulers, the world's leading sponsors of terrorism, do not hesitate to plot terrorism on American soil — confident they will pay no price. (3) Iran's rulers are pursuing nuclear-weapons capability and, if they achieve that goal, they will become much bolder and more dangerous. It's time we grasped this, too: Swatting mosquitoes and shooting the occasional crocodile takes you only so far. At some point it becomes necessary to devise a strategy to drain the swamp. Last fall, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) granted membership to the Palestinian Authority. President Obama then stopped all U.S. financial contributions to UNESCO, as required by U.S. law. This didn't sit well with UNESCO director general Irina Bokova. Earlier this month, she ramped up her campaign to get the U.S. to change its law — in order to get American dollars flowing her way once more.
Bokova argues that UNESCO is a valuable voice for integrity and moderation. To cut its funding is not only improper, she says, but an act that threatens programs vital to U.S. interests. Yet a close look at some of the examples offered by Bokova reveals that UNESCO is often superfluous or merely convenient rather than critical. Worse, the organization has made a number of poor decisions in recent years, decisions that undercut UNESCO's claims to be a voice of moderation, ethical standards, and human rights.
Bokova also makes a plea for sympathy, claiming that the funding cutoff was "very unexpected." In reality, the fact that acceptance of the PA would force the U.S. to stop funds was much discussed weeks before the final vote on October 31, 2011. (See here and here, for example.) Indeed, when asked about it on October 5, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton answered, "We are certainly aware of strong legislative prohibition that prevents the United States from funding organizations that jump the gun, so to speak, in recognizing entities before they are fully ready for such recognition." In subsequent weeks, the administration made UNESCO and the other member states well aware that the law allowed no wiggle room: Funding would be suspended if UNESCO granted membership to the Palestinians.
Earlier this year, Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R., Fla.), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Brad Sherman (D., Calif.), ranking member of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, reiterated the rationale for the law in a bipartisan letter to Secretary Clinton:
Bokova is right about one thing, however. It is inappropriate for the U.S. to maintain UNESCO membership while simultaneously prohibiting all funding to the organization. This leads to an accrual of arrears, creates budgetary uncertainty for UNESCO, and may fuel false hopes in Bokova and others that U.S. funding will be forthcoming. The U.S. should address these issues by withdrawing from UNESCO. National Review — Brett D. Schaefer is the Jay Kingham Fellow in International Regulatory Affairs at the Heritage Foundation.

The 20-year-old Brazilian woman has been auctioning off her virginity online for the past few weeks and a man from Japan known as "Natsu" came out on top with the winning bid.
Natsu beat out five other bidders after a feverish final day where the price of Migliorini's virtue jumped from $190,000 on Oct. 23 to the final $780,000 price tag.
The news wasn't so good for her male counterpart, Alex Stepanov, whose virginity only racked up $3,000 from a woman in Brazil named "Nene B."
Although Migliorini, a physical education student, has claimed to media that she planned to donate as much as 90 percent of the auction price to charities that will build homes in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, even auction organizer Justin Sisely, who devised the plan for a proposed documentary, was skeptical.

A man and a young teenage boy checked in to a hotel and were shown to their room. The two receptionists noted the quiet manner of the guests, and the pale appearance of the boy. Later the man and boy ate dinner in the hotel restaurant. The staff again noticed that the two guests were very quiet, and that the boy seemed disinterested in his food. After eating, the boy went to his room and the man went to reception and asked to see the manager. The receptionist initially asked if there was a problem with the service or the room, and offered to fix things, but the man said that there was no problem of that sort, and repeated his request. The manager was called and duly appeared. The man asked to speak privately and was taken into the manager's office.
The man explained that he was spending the night in the hotel with his fourteen-year-old son, who was seriously ill, probably terminally so. The boy was very soon to undergo therapy, which would cause him to lose his hair. They had come to the hotel to have a break together, and also because the boy planned to shave his head, that night, rather than feel that the illness was beating him. The father said that he would be shaving his own head too, in support of his son. He asked that staff be respectful when the two of them came to breakfast with their shaved heads. The manager assured the father that he would inform all staff and that they would behave appropriately.
The following morning the father and son entered the restaurant for breakfast.
There they saw the four male restaurant staff attending to their duties, perfectly normally, all with shaved heads.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the latest round of sectarian violence against minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's western state of Rakhine.
In a statement released on Tuesday, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu censured the fresh wave of deadly violence in Rakhine, where a group of Muslims were killed after extremist Buddhists set fire to hundreds of houses.
The OIC secretary general asked the international community to call on the Myanmar government to make sure that the violence would not escalate and to protect the lives of innocent people.
"The Myanmar authorities should reinstate the legitimate rights of the Rohingya Muslims including their right of citizenship."
On October 15, the Myanmar government prevented the OIC from opening an office for Rohingya Muslims in the country, with President Thein Sein claiming it is "not in accordance with the people's desire."
The Buddhist-majority government of Myanmar refuses to recognize Rohingyas and has classified them as illegal migrants, even though the Rohingyas are said to be Muslim descendants of Persian, Turkish, Bengali, and Pathan origins, who migrated to Myanmar as early as the 8th century.
Reports say some 650 Rohingyas have been killed in Rakhine over the past few months. About 1,200 others are also missing and 80,000 more have been displaced.

"Tengok skandal melibatkan Shahrizat. Mereka sengaja lengahkan perbicaraan.
-KD

This has been one of the most stressful of days I have had in a long time. From the time I woke up things have been going downhill all day without relenting for one single minute. It was one thing going wrong after the other and what made it even worse was that it was't my fault at all.
I had everything planned to perfection and things just got screwed up because of external factors and who else but me got all the blasting from the client. Every time my cell rang, I cringe cos it wasn't going to be a very civilized conversation.
I think I totally aged 5 additional years in the couple of hours. Sigggghhhh ... I just felt like curling up under some rock and skipping a century or two. After some much heavy juggling and shuffling, I've got things back on track. Lets hope it stays that way and I'll be able to deliver what I promised on Monday.
Good thing it's a public holiday over here tomorrow. Gonna go out and do some running accessories retail therapy to ease the soul ... hahaha! At least it's a nice long weekend to look forward to. The wife and me will be heading for the JW Cameron Highlands Friendship run on Sunday and that I'm totally looking forward to.
We'll be heading to Cameron Highlands on Saturday morning and spend the night there for the race the following morning. We'll be treating this as a holiday cum race event seeing as how the both of us have never been to Cameron Highlands before. What better holiday can one have then one that has a run event thrown in ... LOL! Wonder if I could win some tball trophies or not :D

-TMI

The "master race at work" - edit. A group of parents have lodged police reports against a teacher at SK Bihai in Pos Bihai, near Gua Musang in Kelantan, for slapping their children because they did not recite the doa (Islamic prayer) after having their lunch. One of the parents, Atar Pedik, said his two 12-year-old girls were slapped about 1.30pm on Tuesday, after the children were made to recite the doa even though they are not Muslims.
"I was angry when I learnt what happened to my daughters," Atar said when contacted. Atar, along with two other fathers - Hassan Achoi and Along Pandak - whose 12-year-old daughters were also slapped in the incident, made the three-hour journey from Pos Bihai to lodge their reports at the Gua Musang police station.
Pos Bihai is located in the interior of Kelantan, near its border with Perak. A check with the Gua Musang police station confirmed that the reports were lodged. According to SK Bihai Parent-Teacher Association deputy chairperson Arom Asir, the children's faces were bruised after they were slapped by the male teacher. Arom said that the primary school has at least 100 children, all of whom are Orang Asli, and the children were eating lunch together after sports.
"They were made to recite prayers the Muslim way before and after meals but they didn't know how, so they kept quiet. "Then the teacher picked out the older children and slapped them for being quiet," he said. Arom added that the parents did not know their children were being taught Islamic studies at the school or being made to recite Islamic prayers until earlier this week. "We then made a complaint on this to a Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) representative who came to visit us on Oct 23. Later that day, we found out that the children were slapped," he said.
Agencies in the dark
The phone number listed for SK Bihai connects directly to the Education Department and an officer there who answered our call referred Malaysiakini to the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa). However, Jakoa when contacted said that it has received no report on the matter and that it was gathering information about it. Arom said the parents would also lodge a complaint on the matter with Jakoa. The community is now arranging to hold a dialogue on the incident among the parents, the Education Department, Jakoa and Suhakam on Oct 30.
"We feel that parents should have been consulted if the children are to be imparted with Islamic teachings," he said. Meanwhile, Orang Asli rights NGO Jaringan Kampung Orang Asli Semenanjung Malaysia (JKOASM) in a press statement called on the relevant agencies to take stern action on the assault of the children. "Stern action should be taken against the teacher involved if he is guilty.
"The relevant agencies should also investigate the claim that Orang Asli children are made to study a religion that is not their faith," JKOASM said. It also called on the government to put greater efforts to improve the quality of education provided at schools in the interior regions, such as SK Bihai. "Our observations show that... teachers only teach two or three days in a week," it said. Malaysiakini

Source: Ethnic Kaman Muslims from Kyaut Phyu Escaping to the Sea in Arakan State . October 24, 2012 M-Media Reporting by Htun Taut
Many ethnic Kaman Muslims in Kyaut Phyu township have been injured and killed by Rakhines' attacks today. Many houses were burnt down and destroyed as well.
M-Media's local contacts said many Muslim families are trying to cross the sea towards Bangladesh to escape violence. There were 40 boats this morning, and another 30 were waiting for the tide good enough to move the boats.
"Many Muslims are dead due to Rakhines' violence and terror today. We have only Bangladesh to run to, but we cannot run to anywhere else in Arakan state. If Bangladesh does not allow us to take refuge there, we can only be floating in the sea. We couldn't bring food with us, and we don't have fuel for the boats," a Kyaut Phyu resident told M-Media as he sits on a boat.
His home was burnt down by Rakhines today.
A majority of Muslim residents in Kyaut Phyu are ethnic Kaman. M-Media learns that Rakhines have destroyed many mosques in Kyaut Phyu and that there are almost no Muslim left in town.

The following story is about how sometimes in life, there could be people who try their best to rain on our parade. Remember this story the next time someone be it a Mr/Miss Know-all, or Mr/Miss I-am-better, know-more, done-more-than-you type tries to make your life miserable.
A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:
"Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty.. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"
"We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"
"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser.. " That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome ?"
"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste."
"Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump."
"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."
"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant.
Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."
A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome .
"It was wonderful," explained the woman, "not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot.
And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"
"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope."
Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me."
"Oh, really! What'd he say ?"
He said: "Who on earth did your hair?"
:-) Have a nice day, everyone!

Dear US State Dept,
In the last 4 days in the mid-Rakhine region, what appears to be large mobs of Rakhine monks and civilians have forcibly evicted over 1000 Rohingya families, killed reportedly anywhere from 200-500 Rohingya and burned down 4 Rohingya villages. This violence occurred reportedly with military and police in attendance and without any attempts to stop the violence. The few fire brigades that have reportedly responded have made no attempt to put out the fires.
This current violence was immediately proceeded multiple Buddhist organization's resolutions forbidding financial and further contact and aide to Rohingya with threats including label of traitor. The AP story from Yangon that has hit the international news today reports that the violence above is bilateral aggression with Buddhist casualties and property destruction. This was verified by the Myanmar government spokeperson for Rakhine Myo Thant and Rakhine StateAttorney-General Hla Thein. These two gentleman are members of the ruling regime, which has been implicated in attacks on Rohingya in June and July by human Rights Watch's report "The Government Could have Stopped This."President Thein Sein's most recent call for more benevolence toward Muslims in Burma was nice but ineffective in halting third party aggression nor absolving the State of any role in direct violence and other human rights violations of Rohingya.
The US and international community will not step in to stop the violence, nor call this violence genocide or ethnic cleansing which obligates intervention.
The violence is at such a high and diffuse level that Rohingya are not able to go outdoors to collect money from banks, or get to transportation out of Rakhine. They are still turned away from close by Bangladesh. The Rohingya are trapped in Rakhine.
As much as I absolutely agree that the Rohingya have the right to stay where they and their ancestors have lived, Rakhine, Myanmar, aka Burma. Rohingya in harms way and threatened by harm who are inside Burma, especially Rakhine, should have the freedom to chose whether to stay or leave. I believe survival and life free from humiliating and torturous persecution is their priority. Right now they do not have the choice because they are trapped in Rakhine. They are sitting ducks with Rakhine violence increasing and State security forces watching, not intervening.
I propose the US take the lead in negotiating a facilitated exodus for the Rohingya who chose to leave. The OIC has proposed ~200 million dollars in relief. Have this money go for immediate transport, refuge and long term resettlement of Rohingya, if they chose. It is not undoable. The Muslim world is upset specifically about the lack of US and other Western country attention let alone aggressive negotiation or intervention on behalf of the Rohingya. Other rational and irrational anger is being funneled into complaints about the plight of Rohingya.
Please don't let this be another Bosnia, Nazi Germany and Rwanda where
