[TEPAT] Kajian UM: Pengundi BN Merosot Disebab Integriti Buruk Pemimpin

Seven Spooky Stories

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 06:30 AM PST

Recently, I came across Claudia Castañeda's post on 7 Spooky Stories of Haunted Houses In Bogota.

La Candelaria, the mysterious and magical birthplace of Bogota, Colombia, boasts a long and dramatic history, and some believe that the neighborhood's houses, many of which are more than 200 years old, may be home to ghosts and paranormal phenomena. Most people chalk up these stories as myths and urban legends, but residents of the sector assure people that many of them are real – scary real.

Story # 1 San Vitorio Di Torino Hotel contained 400-year-old human remains

The numerous ghost appearances in the district are attributed to the fact that formal cemeteries didn't exist until relatively recently. For hundreds of years, people buried the dead in their home gardens, as was the case in the San Vitorio Di Torino Hotel, where the discovery of 400-year-old human remains added credence to guests' claims of paranormal activity.

Motion rejected on al-Qaeda's M'sian website

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 06:04 AM PST

An opposition MP's has failed in his bid to move an emergency motion to discuss a Malaysian data centre's hosting of terrorist group al-Qaeda's Tawhed.net website and forum.
Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia decided in chambers today that "the matter is not urgent as per parliamentary guidelines". He also said there is no urgency for debate as the website is already being monitored and investigated by the relevant agencies.
A copy of Pandikar's written reply was made available to the press by DAP's Segambut parliamentarian Lim Lip Eng.
"The government must explain why our country is very welcoming of terrorists. I will not give up. I will try again," he vowed at a press conference in the Parliament lobby today. Lim had submitted the emergency motion under Standing Order 18(1) last Thursday, based on aStar report on the closure of the website. He also said that the government must explain why it is allowing terrorists into the country, as disclosed by Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein last week.
However, Hishammuddin had downplayed the threat to Malaysia, saying that terrorists only use the country for a stopover and that they are kept under surveillance.
Lim argued that the government must come clean on the level of the threat to Malaysia, and that this is why the matter should be debated in the House.

[GILA] Hadlaju 90 Km, Saman 80 Km, Bukti Kelemahan AES

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 05:10 AM PST

Menurut Zulhazmi, Pengarah Penguatkuasa JPJ, Jaafar Mohamed dalam laman web JPJ menjelaskan, kamera AES dilengkapi sistem 'speed limit buffer' (lonjakan had laju).

Jeremy's diploma

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 01:49 AM PST

Here was where we were last Saturday: at the Penang campus of the Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Tanjung Bungah. It was convocation day and my son was all prepped up to receive his Diploma in e-marketing and business.

The above pictures weren't very clear because they were not snapped directly from the stage but rather, from the projector screen. Still, I managed to catch this candid photo of a beaming son as he walked back to his seat:

After the ceremony was over, we all met up outside the hall for this picture. Can't help it if I'm grinning from ear to ear. It may only be a diploma but to me, it was his day and it was his greatest achievement.

[DASYAT] Buang Janin Depan Rumah

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 02:58 AM PST

UMNO...Still Proud Of You ...^_^

Posted: 06 Nov 2012 01:35 AM PST

Being interested in becoming an UMNO member was because my ex joined a branch in Pulau Rusa, Pekan, Pahang (about 20 years ago).
It was initially not an easy entry for us.
We were treated like outsiders, felt unwelcomed even though he was born and bred in Pekan and lived in Kuantan.

There were so many envious faces.
You could see their contempt and that sneering look.
I was so scared back then.

However, the one who went all out to give him some limelight and moral support was actress Sarimah's older brother.
He was very encouraging and coaxed my ex to try and position himself somewhere in the branch committee.
Arwah Cikgu Sahak was absolutely kindhearted.

He had complete faith in my ex's ability to ultimately be one of the top 3 UMNO Pekan division leaders.
Unfortunately, with so many political enemies within, that did not materialise.

Btw, arwah Cikgu Sahak's daughter (who looks exactly like Sarimah is married to my ex's younger brother).
They have 4 lovely children..

There were so many sabotages from those who feared that when a person is more educated, the person will be a hindrance to their dreams of climbing up the higher rankings.
This is still a major stumbling mental block attitude.
It's however a general, widespread human weakness in any political race.

I managed to put on a very thick skin and I learned some important ropes of campaigning.
Smiling and grinning no matter what became an okay habit.
There were many embarrassing moments but that was alright too.

There were only a few of us who were running around to prop up the 'newcomer'.
He was an excellent 'product' to paddle around.

When his soldiers of supporters increased in number,I went into forced retirement.
Something changed and I was not needed anymore..the spark was gone.
Still, I did enjoy helping out.

We have an amazing party..our age old antique priceless UMNO.
Though it made members like me angry at times, our fight to keep its importance is all worthwhile.

We must respect our elected leaders..the seriously good ones of course.
Our precious party must be wrapped up beautifully with potentially well groomed leaders so that we will not worry about its performance and attractiveness.

To treasure our UMNO, we must carefully select the best ones to nourish the aspirations of the rakyat.
We are not cowards..we can courageously bring our party to a glorious level again.

UMNO has been with us for a very long time.
Like a wrinkled wife, the party has lost much of its youth and beauty.
Like an old husband who has sacrificed so much for his wife and children, UMNO's good deeds are immeasurable and remembered.
And so, the loyalty remains entrenched and undivided.

Despite the flaws and wrong moves, UMNO has done its best.
An effective internal mending will surge the party forward in a more prestigious manner.
UMNO is not a horrid party..it just has its imperfections.

We love UMNO even after a bunch of insecure jerks did not do their duties with integrity.
However, I am sure we can probably agree that there were undeniably numerous applaudable work that were successfully implemented
Needless to say, there are also many admirable efforts currently in progress.

UMNO will never stop intensifying and improving its services for the rakyat..InsyaAllah.

Medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) says staff threatened by Rakhines

Source: MSF says staff threatened in western Myanmar

BANGKOK (AlertNet) – Medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) says hardline nationalists are threatening its staff and preventing them reaching victims of the latest sectarian clashes in western Myanmar which have killed 89 people and uprooted 35,000.

Many of the displaced are now living in camps, joining some 75,000 people who fled their homes after a previous explosion of violence between Buddhist Rakhines and Muslim Rohingya in June.

The United Nations says the majority of the newly displaced in Rakhine State are Rohingyas – an ethnic group which has been denied citizenship by Myanmar.

"That we are prevented from acting and threatened for wanting to deliver medical aid to those in need is shocking and leaves tens of thousands without the medical care they urgently need," said MSF Operations Manager Joe Belliveau.

Both Rohingyas and Rakhines have urgent healthcare needs, including treatment for wounds, burns, malnutrition, diarrhoea and fever, Belliveau added. He also warned that the peak season for malaria was fast approaching.

Belliveau said there had been difficulties in getting access to affected people and permission from the authorities but things had improved.

"Our bigger problem comes from threats and intimidation from certain parts of the community, people who are saying, 'You can't treat people from the other side. You can't treat our enemies. We don't allow that. We don't think that's right'," he told AlertNet in a phone interview.

Belliveau said MSF doctors and nurses, who act impartially in accordance with universal medical ethics, were unwilling to work because they were scared.

He said the threats mostly came from the Rakhine community and were general threats.

"We've been accused of overly supporting the Rohingya. In fact all we do is we simply go to where the needs are the most," said Belliveau.

MSF said its operation in Rhakine State, one of its largest in the world, treated patients from all ethnic and religious groups.

"For the past 18 years we have treated many thousands of people from all communities in Rakhine, especially in the case of malaria and HIV/AIDS, and yet there is a certain perception and a certain accusation that we favour one group over the other," Belliveau added.

He said MSF had the capacity to do a lot more to support the Myanmar government's overstretched clinics but "greater tolerance and greater freedom of movement is needed".

LONGER-TERM CARE ALSO AFFECTED

Myanmar's Buddhist-majority government, which has vowed to forge unity in one of Asia's most ethnically diverse nations, regards the estimated 800,000 Rohingyas in the country as illegal immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh.

Bangladesh does not recognise them either. They are officially stateless and the United Nations has referred to them as "virtually friendless".

MSF, which offers tuberculosis and maternal health services in Rakhine, said it was also concerned about the longer-term healthcare programmes in the northern part of the state which were suspended following the violence in June when at least 80 people died.

Belliveau said hundreds or thousands of people, who are not displaced but whose movements have been restricted as a result of the violence, have not had access to healthcare for months.

A U.N. situation report released on Oct. 28 said strong feelings against the United Nations and non-governmental organisations "has been fuelled by some elements in the Rakhine State".

"Several pamphlets have been distributed and threats have been articulated against the entire humanitarian community," it said, adding that certain partners had been told that their relief operations were biased.

"As a result, some assessment teams have been denied access to locations where people are displaced or relief supplies, including that of the government, have been refused," the report said.

Last week, MSF had to postpone the opening of a new clinic in Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine, because of protests. The clinic intends to provide primary health care including AIDS treatment.

"It's a small group of people who have this very strong line that organisations such as MSF are providing too much support to the Rohingyas, that we are somehow supporting their greater political ambition," said Belliveau.

"The problem is that it's our staff who are on the frontlines, who sometimes receive direct threats. They're too scared and understandably so."

A New Culture of Idiots *MUST READ*

Posted: 05 Nov 2012 10:00 PM PST

A few days ago, this site hosted an excerpt from Aaron James book called  "Assholes: A Theory" AARON JAMES holds a PhD from Harvard and is associate professor of philosophy at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of Fairness in Practice: A Social Contract for a Global Economy, and was awarded the Burkhardt Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies, spending the 2009–10 academic year at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He's an avid surfer (the experience of which has directly inspired this book) . . . and he's not an asshole.

According to Amazon.com which sells the book here:

In the spirit of the mega-selling On Bullshit, philosopher Aaron James presents a theory of the asshole that is both intellectually provocative and existentially necessary.

What does it mean for someone to be an asshole? The answer is not obvious, despite the fact that we are often personally stuck dealing with people for whom there is no better name. Try as we might to avoid them, assholes are found everywhere—at work, at home, on the road, and in the public sphere. Encountering one causes great difficulty and personal strain, especially because we often cannot understand why exactly someone should be acting like that.

Asshole management begins with asshole understanding. Much as Machiavelli illuminated political strategy for princes, this book finally gives us the concepts to think or say why assholes disturb us so, and explains why such people seem part of the human social condition, especially in an age of raging narcissism and unbridled capitalism. These concepts are also practically useful, as understanding the asshole we are stuck with helps us think constructively about how to handle problems he (and they are mostly all men) presents. We get a better sense of when the asshole is best resisted, and when he is best ignored—a better sense of what is, and what is not, worth fighting for.

Some of the editorial reviews on Aaron James' book that have been featured in Amazon include:

Advance Praise for Assholes: A Theory:

"Aaron James provides us with a delightful philosophical romp through the world of assholes. I was especially tickled by his analysis of different types: smug assholes, royal assholes, the presidential asshole, corporate assholes, the reckless assholes, to name a few."

—Robert I. Sutton, Stanford professor and author of the New York Times bestsellers The No Asshole Rule and Good Boss, Bad Boss

"Aaron James explores a very rude term that many now find unavoidable in the description of an alarming human type. His witty and accessible study of the personal and social problems the asshole creates draws on his lucid and brilliant accounts of the best in contemporary moral and political philosophy. James's analysis of asshole capitalism is a tour de force of philosophically astute political analysis and criticism. This is a book that should appeal equally to the general reader and the philosophical specialist."

—Marshall Cohen, founding editor of Philosophy and Public Affairs and university professor emeritus, University of Southern California

‘Myanmar’s leaders must send out strong message of reconciliation to Rakhine’

'Myanmar's leaders must send out strong message of reconciliation to Rakhine' ASHOK NIGAM: 'A large number of people need economic and social development … these are all elements that the government needs to address on a medium and long-term basis.' Photo: U.N. Information Centre, Yangon

Clashes between Rohingya Muslims and Rakhine Buddhists have left 89 people dead.

Clashes last week between Rohingya Muslims and Rakhine Buddhists in Myanmar's Rakhine state, for the second time this year, have left 89 people dead, more than 100 injured and tens of thousands homeless. Ashok Nigam, United Nations Resident & Humanitarian Co-ordinator in Yangon, tells Nirupama Subramanian in this interview in the Myanmar capital that the situation has now been brought under control by the Thein Sein government, but a "tense calm" prevails in the region, and leaders of "all political parties" need to be forthcoming with messages of peace and reconciliation. Excerpts from the interview:

Can you give us an update of the situation in the Rakhine state?

From October 21, there were a series of incidents in a number of locations. In eight of the townships, we know there have been incidents, and there has been a significant displacement. The President has issued the figures of roughly now about 32,000 people [displaced] as a result of the inter-communal conflict. He has also given the figures of the number of dead [89].

I have been to five of these townships [last] Friday and Saturday. We've seen a large number of people in this area. In Myebon, where the area and the houses have been burnt, the people have moved to a hill very close to where there were living. In Minbya, they've also moved. This was a totally rural area where there were incidents. Then in Yinthie village in Mrauk-U township, where a number of people died, and people have moved to temporary shelters they've built on their own. There are roughly 2,000 people displaced in that village. We also saw down south in Kyaukpyu, where there was a large area close to the coast which has been burnt, there were a number of people in a temporary shelter behind the military base. Finally, in Ramree township, further south, it's an island, we've had a number of people displaced.

There were reports of possible incidents over the weekend in Ramree and in Kyauknimaw on Tuesday. We did speak with the minister, and they'd sent in 200 security forces there. I believe no incidents happened, but certainly there is a lot of concern that the area may be susceptible. The government has managed to send in security forces now. We've not heard of any incidents but clearly there is still fear among a number of these people.

How would you describe the situation in Rakhine now? Is it stable?

It is stable, but I think it's a tense calm among the people. I know some people are concerned and worried and fearful but so far the government has managed to control this new eruption that took place. They've indicated a number of arrests that they've made. … I've also made statements to the minister that they need to send out strong messages of reconciliation from all the leaders in the country. Many of these people have been living very peacefully in these areas and it is important that messages of reconciliation are sent by the government and by the senior leaders of the country across the political parties. Some have started making those statements. They've made these statements in the past as well, so I think reinforcement of these statements is important.

The third element is the humanitarian effort. We're working with the government to ensure food and shelter, the two main, initially the priorities, reach these people. Some of these places are hard to reach.

When you said that all leaders must convey messages of reconciliation, were you referring to Aung San Suu Kyi?

It is up to all the leaders to make this determination and we certainly believe that messages of reconciliation and calm are important. I don't wish to name individual persons, but I think the onus is on everyone …

The U.N. report of a couple of days ago, talked about how humanitarian workers were being denied access because of their perceived bias, and that they were being threatened…

There is a security issue in the sense that we've to go with the security forces in some of these areas because of the communities in some of these areas making it difficult for some of our national workers, not so much our international people, to work and access those areas. We call upon the government in those cases to provide us with security…And the government has been very supportive in providing us with that element where it is required.

…Of course we want independent access because it is very important for our own neutrality and our humanitarian principles that we deliver assistance in an impartial and neutral way. And we continue to work on that basis with the government.

How real are the fears of radicalisation in the region?

Well, I think in this country, people of various religions have lived very harmoniously. So I don't think we should do anything which cites any divisions. Their leaders have emphasised all the time that this should not be seen as a religious issue, it is an inter-communal issue, certainly, but it does not really extend to other parts of the country, and we certainly hope it does not.

You said it was not a religious conflict. So what is the conflict actually about?

The issue in the North has been the issue of statelessness of many of the Muslims, who they call Bengali Muslims. The issue has prevailed for a long time and we impress upon the government that they need to address this issue of statelessness of these people. The government has its Citizenship Act. The President has said they would apply this Citizenship Act and that the rule of law needs to prevail …that is a legal process…

In the meantime, we believe all these people need to live harmoniously. The root causes of this are also the lack of economic and social development of the state. Rakhine is the second poorest state in the country after Chin, and the population is significantly larger. So a large number of people need economic and social development. That's one of the root causes beyond statelessness.

Statelessness is also linked to the issue of mobility of these people; again that is an issue that needs to be addressed simultaneously. But the lack of education has been one of the factors, the lack of employment opportunities [is another] — these are all elements that the government needs to address on a medium and long-term basis, and we believe that investment is critically important for the infrastructure, plus social development is critically important in the medium and long term.

Patutlah Temberang Semacam Suruh Lapor SPRM, Rupanya Beliau Ada Kuasa Ke Atas SPRM

Rafizi desak Nazri bercuti, SPRM memulakan siasatan

-TMI
