Syahid 16 Tahun Lalu, Jenazah Seperti Baru Dikebumikan

Dia syahid ketika sedang menentang tentera yahudi laknatullah.

Dulu kawasan kubur Khalil tanpa sengaja tergali.

Jenazahnya bahkan seperti baru sahaja dikebumikan satu jam lalu.

Satu jari telunjuknya tegak, seperti orang tengah melakukan tasyahud dalam solat.

[BERGAMBAR] "Najib Penipu!" Jeritan Peserta Tuntut Kerakyatan

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 07:02 AM PST

"Najib kata 9,000, beliau menipu!

Selepas selesai ucapan, beberapa ahli parlimen (MP) PR turut memberikan ucapan antaranya MP Subang (PKR) R. Sivarasa, MP Kapar (PKR) S.

-TMI

More on the children’s schooling

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 05:35 AM PST

I may be done with the back-to-school shopping for 48 children last week, but that doesn't mean I am done with matters pertaining to my many children's schooling.

There are still a few other families who had agreed to buy first and submit their receipts to me later so I can reimburse them. Then there are the lists of workbooks/fees that need to be paid to the various schools when school reopens in January. And there are those who may need bicycles as their transportation to school. Not forgetting, I will also have to list down the amount needed for those who need to pay monthly bus/van fares to school.

So yeah, still lots of stuff for me to do before and after school reopens. I've already booked 3 bicycles from the bicycle shop I usually go to when any of my children need bicycles. One had already been delivered to Ika today. The other 2 bicycles is expected to be delivered next week.

Photo0243

Some of my clients have already given me the list of workbooks to be bought and other payments that need to be paid to the children's various schools. Not cheap, from what I've seen so far. There's one primary school which included a "program kecemerlangan" charging RM200 for each year 6 student and RM85 for those in years 4 and 5. Add in whatever else that need to be paid to the school and each year 6 student end up having to pay over RM300 while students in years 4 and 5 have to pay close to RM200. Some schools require students to buy scientific calculators and track bottoms from the school instead of buying on thier own outside.

Even average-income earners usually would find their budget rather tight at the beginning of each school year. Imagine a single mother who works as an assistant at a food stall and has 4 school-going children…

That was why in the first place, we came up with our Children Education Fund and later followed by the Education Sponsorship for Children Programme.

Ah well, I'd better now list down everything properly in my computer so that I'd have a record of all the payments made & need to be made!

The MIC's extremely bitter harvest By Commander (Rtd) S THAYAPARAN, formerly of the Royal Malaysian Navy

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 03:25 AM PST

"......of the 900,000 Indian voters, less than half are with the MIC" - G Palanivel ('Has awkward MIC thrown in the towel?' - The Malay Mail)
COMMENT Now, when former MIC strongman S Samy Vellu has admitted that during his tenure as party president, in those "closed doors, let's keep it in the (BN) family consensus building meetings", the MIC had no voice whatsoever, it is pointless kicking a running dog, so to speak. With the general elections perpetually round the corner, BN (race-based) component parties have been scrambling to find relevance in the face of Umno domination and an alternative front which has been very successful in propagating its multicultural/religious message.
NONEWhile the MCA has a record of accomplishment to fall back on (even though one may disagree with the achievements and agendas of said record), the same cannot be said of the MIC. The political party is testament to the fact that the Indian community (or at least a sizable disenfranchised section) is estranged from mainstream politics because the MIC has been derelict (I would argue criminally so) in its duties.

I could not be bothered to recite a litany of the MIC's corrosive machinations on the Indian community. As a long-time pre-Pakatan Rakyat 'opposition supporter', I think political parties like the DAP and PSM have done far more for the Indian community than the MIC ever (and recognising the state of the Indian community, but sadly, this did not amount to much in the long run). In this post-2008 tsunami era, Hindraf and elements within Pakatan have shown that there is an alternative to an established race-based party, when it comes to the communal expectations of the Indian community.

Well, let me be clear. So long as Hindraf (through the Human Rights Party) assumes an anti-establishment stance, galvanising certain elements within Pakatan, there could be an alternative to an established race-based party, when it comes to the communal expectations of the Indian community.
MIC and Perkasa

To understand Hindraf's influence in the Indian community and the fear it raises in this appeaser organisation, all you have to do is listen to the speeches by MIC president G Palanivel. When he rambles on with something like this, "We may be vocal at times, but it is really because we love this country and want it to be the best it can be," he sure as hell is not talking about the MIC. These "vocal" Indians are Hindraf and members of the opposition alliance. When has the MIC ever been vocal about the 'interests' of the Indian community beyond making perfunctory squeaks to show that they exist? Moreover, when he goes on about 'affirmative action programmes' that has benefitted the Malay community that could be used for the Indian community, he is ripping out whole pages from the Hindraf playbook.

Furthermore, this whole issue of 'stateless Indians' which should also encompass 'displaced Indians' has come about only because Hindraf has been screaming about this for years and the opposition coalition has reacted in a positive manner. Think about it. Hindraf has been the catalyst for any movement when it comes to addressing 'Indian issues' for the political alliances in this country.
NONEThis is where Pakatan and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim have been very politically perceptive in dealing with Hindraf. The recent announcement by Hindraf chief P Waythamoorthy (far left) that Anwar has agreed in principle and will sign Hindraf's five-year blueprint is probably the fatal blow to the MIC.

However the decline of the MIC (and hopefully not in the "rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated" kind of way) has finally drawn a line in the sand of the simmering class tensions that have existed in the Indian community for some time. This should not be confused with the 'caste' tensions that have been a permanent fixture in MIC politics.

The strategy employed by the MCA and MIC in reclaiming their lost share of voters and holding up their end of the racial bargain has been markedly different. Whereas the MCA has either embroiled itself in a shadow play show of defiance towards Umno, (where Umno remains silent on MCA attacks on its supremacist ideology or blusters using its outsourced thugs) or zeroed in on the "Islamic" agenda of PAS, the MIC seems to have reverted to extreme sycophancy as a means of political survival.
NONEA good example of this is MP P Kamalanathan (Hulu Selangor) (right in photo) who during the course of the hotly contested Hulu Selangor seat justified the existence of right-wing pressure group Perkasa as a natural extension of communal politics and that the group was merely looking after the interests of the Malay community, much like the MIC was for the Indian community.

Helen Ang, one of the more (if not the most) insightful observers of the Indian experience in this country, dissects Kamalanathan's stance in 'Why MIC Hulu Selangor candidate defends Perkasa?' and succinctly ends her piece by alluding to the 'mandore' underpinnings of the MIC. "Kamal's defence of this ultra-movement is untenable but not unexpected as after all, this is a candidate who said that he would "take back the federal seat and deliver it to Prime Minister Najib Razak as gift for his first year in office? Like a housecat dragging in an offering of a captured mouse," writes Helen in conclusion.
Common DNA

However, what I would argue is that the MIC and Perkasa share common DNA when it comes to their role in race politics in this country. Whereas Perkasa reflects its reactionary hostility towards perceived slights outwards against other communities, the MIC turns it wrath inwards towards its own community. In other words, the MIC over the long Umno watch became the Indian communities' own little Perkasa nightmare in terms of a bullying force whose sole agenda was to keep everyone in line.

Just as Perkasa's role is to maintain the hegemony of Umno elites through the devices of race and religion, the MIC, suppressed internal dissent and any hope of evolutionary change through the perpetuation of caste politics and a culture of vulgar cronyism and sycophancy to maintain the rule of a chosen few, who seemed to revel in their 'house negro' status within the BN.
NONEBoth entities savoured the thug approach to politics. The recent history of the MIC is replete with far too many examples where brawn was favoured over rational dialogue. By its own admission, the MIC welcomes 'reformed' criminals and to say nothing of the well-documented rumours of the intersection of the criminal underworld and the plums political positions within the MIC.

As a long-time former MIC politico tells me, all of this would mean nothing if the Indian community benefitted from the corruption within the MIC. He goes on to say "the MIC representing the smallest ethnic group in this country should have had a fair easier time ... what is the word again ... 'uplifting' the community with the 'goodies' thrown our way. But our masters knew the greed of their servants, and they knew damn well the money was not going where it was supposed to go".

This brings us back to the 'class' reality of a post-MIC era. These days the more I read on 'Indian' issues, the more it becomes clear that the class divisions within the Indian community is reflected in the tensions between an 'Indian' social and political organisations like Hindraf/Human Rights Party and opposition forces that operate under a multicultural cloak like Pakatan. MIC's failure is not one of 'race' but one of 'class'. This should surprise nobody since the noxious fumes of 'caste' has always been embedded in 'class'. There is much to blame Umno for but the reality is that the MIC had a systematic agenda of promulgating a culture of subservience that served not only Umno ends but also more importantly theirs.

The MIC has no excuse for the horrid state that a sizeable section of the Indian community find themselves in. Unlike the MCA, which never allowed its corruption to get in the way of implementing tangible programmes that would ensure a larger slice of the economic pie, the MIC allowed corruption to become the raison d'etre of its existence. The same can be said of Umno, actually. What it chose to do is define Indian communal expectations in such a way that it was neither necessary nor political expedient for the Umno machine to fulfill them.
Culture of subservience
This is why an organisation like Hindraf is anathema to the current discourse. They neither pay attention to the culture of subservience that characterised the Indian community nor embrace the 'multicultural identity' of oppositional politics. However, what a Hindraf and Pakatan alliance may create is a new way of recognising and addressing the problems within the Indian community. A discourse which is cognisant of race but which (hopefully) ultimate goal is for a class-based approach. It is also a partnership of equals or at least it is a partnership that has been achieved after an extremely torturous courting phase.

NONEWhat this possible agreement/alliance between Pakatan and Hindraf demonstrates is that an Indian-based NGO can negotiate a settlement with a political party making the necessary compromises (if any) on its own trems.

And this is important after years of the MIC subservience culture. Now many would find this discomforting. When you have mocked Hindraf as a racist organisation, it is difficult to face the racial reality where compromises need to be made for political survival in an every vote counts environment.

However, what the Indian community needs to do is empower itself and the first way to do this is a rejection of the MIC and to build consensus with parties which could make their (Hindraf's) aspirations a reality.

Even if this does not work out, at least for the first time, it would have been something that was done on the community's own terms and not an agenda set out by the appeasers in the MIC. Malaysiakini

Turkey jails more journalists than any other country

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 03:12 AM PST

From Now (Lebanon):

Turkey has been hailed as a beacon of democracy in a troubled region. Many cite it as an example for post-revolutionary countries of the Arab Spring, as it is held up as a successful fusion of liberalism and Islam.

But a report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) published on Tuesday sheds a different light on the country's record of liberalism. With 49 journalists in prison, CPJ calls Turkey "the world's worst jailer," and it sits at the top of a list that includes Iran, China and Eritrea.

"There is no independent media left," says Nuray Mert, one of the country's most prolific journalists and columnists. Like her, many journalists in the country complain that an atmosphere of intimidation and self-censorship has reigned since Prime Minister Reccep Tayyip Erdogan began consolidating his power. Mert used to write for Turkey's biggest papers and was a regular guest on political talk shows. This changed when Erdogan singled her out during a public speech for her criticism of government policies.

"I wrote a column saying that we have to take the Kurds seriously and not treat them as subjects, that we have to grant them collective rights," says Mert of the 15 million Kurds in Turkey whom the government has denied cultural and political freedoms for decades.

In a speech after her column ran, Erdogan more or less accused Mert of treason. Her editors understood the message, and she was fired. "Later I got a call not to show up on TV anymore either." She started receiving a flood of hate mail and threats. "I was afraid that someone from the ultra-right nationalists would attack me."

Still, Mert was never arrested, unlike dozens of other journalists who were charged with "helping terrorist organizations." Just reporting on the outlawed Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK), passing on contact details or assigning stories on the organization is enough to be labeled a terrorist by the Turkish government.

Erdogan's officials and the courts use draconian anti-terror legislation written after the military coup in the early 1980s. The cases are handled by "special-authority courts," which can hold suspects in custody for years without trial. Detainees can have their access to their lawyers and files restricted and are often prohibited from communicating with anyone outside their detention centers.

In the past, these courts have practically erased the presumption of innocence.
"There is a new term for journalists used by the government," says Elif Ilgaz, a leading press freedom advocate. "They call it 'organized journalism' to discredit us." Hat tip: Elder of Ziyon

The Source of Evil - Iran’s nefarious influence can be seen throughout the Middle East, most recently in Gaza by Mitchell A. Belfer

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 03:09 AM PST

The victims of the latest Israel–Gaza flare-up have been buried, the wounded treated, and the damage totaled up. As the consequences of the conflict are being dealt with, it is now time to address the causes. There is a bigger picture to be examined here:  Gaza, like so many other Middle East conflicts, was the handiwork of an irresponsible Iran.

The Islamic Republic is destabilizing the entire Middle East. Gaza, Syria, an insurgency in Bahrain, a war of attrition in Yemen, and dysfunction in Sudan, Lebanon, and Iraq all reek of Iranian interference. Iran is not the only destabilizing (f)actor; the region is replete with competing groups, states, and contrasting ideological movements. But Iran is the largest, and owing to its "Twelver" ideology, its nuclear ambitions, its irresponsible threats, and its use of force — internally and externally — it must be seen as a regional, if not international, threat.

Few, however, seem willing to expose Iran as the culprit behind the recent turbulence; its role is treated as an open secret. So beguiled is the international community by Iran's nuclearization and by the rhetorical games it plays with Israel that many other of Iran's destructive policies slip beneath the radar.

Take Sudan, Iran's arms-trafficking hub. Weapons from Iran enter Port Sudan and slither their way north through Egypt to Gaza, or west to the Maghreb, or remain in Sudan. Iran is also engaged in Shia missionary activities, paying for Shia conversions, while cozying up to Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, the architect of the Darfur genocide. In Syria, Iran's deployment of Hezbollah fighters, al-Quds advisers, and untold amounts of money and weapons will ensure that Assad's fall from power is long and bloody. As for Bahrain, Iran is consolidating its power on the island and training Hezbollah and the so-called Sacred Defense in the tactics of asymmetrical warfare — the dark arts of killing civilians by bomb.

Why are Iranian fingers spoiling so many pies? Its superiority complex, coupled with its colonizing ideology, makes it feel destined to be a regional superpower. Yet despite its power quest, Iran is not seeking transformation so much as it's trying to defend an untenable status quo. It does not want regional change; it is afraid of that. It expects that change will, if unchecked, knock on its own door.

If Israel and Hamas sue for peace, if the Assad regime is toppled and Lebanon maintains its stability, and if Bahrain's reforms end its recent conflagrations, Iranian regional power will be sapped and its ability to deflect public opinion from its mounting domestic problems will be reduced. Iranians are weary of having to endure yet another year of economic hardships, a valueless currency, enormous taxation on gasoline, and a lack of political liberty. So Ahmadinejad, the ayatollahs, the Basij militia, al-Quds, and the Revolutionary Guards are clutching at straws. They want to keep the region festering so they can stay politically aloft. They need to keep it in a turbulent state so they can imprison their critics at home.

In the months preceding the Gaza fighting, there were indications that Hamas and Israel were approaching a permanent truce. Gershon Baskin, a key Israeli negotiator in the prisoner swap that freed Gilad Shalit after five years, reportedly had been given a completed draft agreement just hours before the latest conflict erupted. Why then did battle ensue?

Hamas's 2011–12 evacuation from Damascus, after citing the regime's murder of civilians, and Iran's unabashed reinforcement of Assad exposed an ideological tension, resulting in the former's decision to end its support to Hamas, estimated as high as $20 million a month. Hamas responded by dissolving three paramilitary units that were directed by Tehran and by establishing a new, more unified command, the al-Aqsa Protectors, based out of Gaza's interior ministry. Iran was not about to give up its Israel pressure point, however, and instead of taking that $20 million per month and reinvesting it in its own national economy, it diverted the funding to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), an enemy of Hamas and Israel.

It is PIJ that launched an attack against an Israeli armored personnel carrier, wounding four and initiating the latest episode of violence. PIJ fired the first dozen rockets into Israel, and Israel escalated. Unwilling or unable to distinguish between groups, Israel punished Hamas, assassinated Ahmed al-Jabari, chief of the Gaza security wing of Hamas, and hit some 25 targets of opportunity. The war was on. PIJ then slipped into the background as Israel and Hamas faced off.

Such nuances are lost in the press. Spectators saw Iranian rockets soaring to Israeli targets and assumed a continued Iran-Hamas relationship. Sure, Hamas deployed Iranian-built Fajr-3 and Fajr-5 rockets. But that was what they had on hand; they had been delivered before the Hamas-Iran split. The idea that the origin of weapons indicates a political affiliation is simply misleading. Consider that the second-most-prevalent rockets that Hamas fired — and the ones that caused the most damage to Israel — were Russian-made Grads. If the weapons-origin argument were valid, that would mean Russia was also supportive of the Hamas campaign. It wasn't, of course.

No, the rockets that Hamas held in its stocks were from 2009–10. Although Israel's interdiction of the MV Francop, which contained an Iranian consignment of some 11,000 rockets and mortars, was a major blow to the Islamic Republic's arms trafficking, it was reported that two similar-sized vessels successfully landed in Port Sudan in December that same year, and four others during 2010. [VIDEO] Bom Kedua Deepak Meletup: SD 2 Bala Untuk Sekat Siapa Bunuh Altantuya Terbongkar

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 04:45 AM PST

"Mereka kena hentikan langkah seterusnya.

Dia suruh saya cari jalan menyelesaikan masalah dia.

Biar Datuk Seri buat keputuan bagaimana".

Pertama dia telefon satu lawyer.

Saya telefon Bala, kita bincang atas telefon.

No way lah, nak keluar masuk pun susah, ada bodyguard semua.

Dia mahu kita pergi ke The Curve, dekat Mutiara Damansara.

Kemudian mereka nak buat sidang media. Bila nak buat PC, saya tak kenal siapa-siapa masa tu, saya low profile.

Sekurang-kurangnya kita menghormati pihak penguatkuasa kita menjalankan tugas bukan mengikut arahan sepasang suami isteri sahaja. Negara ini lebih dari itu. Itu saja".

Deepak dedah cerita disebalik SD ke dua Bala

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 01:06 AM PST

"Mereka kena hentikan langkah seterusnya.

Dia suruh saya cari jalan menyelesaikan masalah dia.

Pertama dia telefon satu lawyer.

Saya telefon Bala, kita bincang atas telefon.

No way lah, nak keluar masuk pun susah, ada bodyguard semua.

Dia mahu kita pergi ke The Curve, dekat Mutiara Damansara.

Kemudian mereka nak buat sidang media. Bila nak buat PC, saya tak kenal siapa-siapa masa tu, saya low profile.

Sekurang-kurangnya kita menghormati pihak penguatkuasa kita menjalankan tugas bukan mengikut arahan sepasang suami isteri sahaja. Negara ini lebih dari itu. Itu saja." - harakah online

Finding A Penny

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 12:46 AM PST

You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the home of her husband's employer.
My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. Her husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant one evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.
He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.
Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.
He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure.
How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

"Look at it," he said.. "Read what it says."
She read the words, "
United States of America ."

"No, not that. Read further."

"One cent?"
"No, keep reading."

"In God we Trust?"
"Yes!"
"And?. . ."

"And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin, I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him. Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray. I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!"

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. "Yes, God, I get the message!"

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient.

Parlimen Indonesia Kecam Zainuddin Maidin Dan Utusan Malaysia

Posted: 12 Dec 2012 12:20 AM PST

DMetrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Rapat paripurna DPR, Selasa (11/12), diwarnai interupsi.

Setuju jawab anggota DPR serentak.(Andhini)

The Habibie Center's 13th Anniversary and Democracy Take-Off? The BJ Habibie Period.

Ulasan GB

Zaw Gyi : Hyacinth's Way  – This is My Way

Rejoicing in the tidal creek, the blue coloured Miss Beda,
Giving pretext of the jasmine flower,
She wants to dock at the shore near.
Rejoicing in the tidal creek, Miss Beda of a bluish colour,
Giving pretext of the belle lady,
She fancies to stop at the shore here.
Rejoicing in the tidal creek, bluish Miss Beda,
Giving pretext of the small stupa,
She desires to land at the shore hither.
With a sail aloft while I glide,
The words of the piper I have learned to abide,
Wearing like a sash the noble wish of escape, bluish lady
Beda
Flowing up and dawn in the tidal creek's water,
She says, this is my way; no other.

- Noble wish of escape.
The wish of escape from endless births of Samsara, and
taking the other way round, it means the attainment of Nirvana

special day – today!

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 08:12 PM PST

as today is a special day that comes only…. ??…. thousand?… years,  will not ever come again, i just have to blog something. i am trying to time it at 12.12 to press the post button too.  ok what shall i blog about then? been so 'dead' in blogging already, don't know what to blog. now had been active on facebook instead. well i need to revamp my blog first (how many times have i said that??) before i really get into regular blogging.

ok what shall i blog about then? ahh…. what had i been up to. well as i said, being active on facebook… then busy writing for CJMY (which is powered by malaysiakini) and herald. busy running around attending forums, ceramah, workshop, protests, press conferences, events.

speaking about malaysiakini, anyone want to subscribe to malaysiakini? it's the best online news portal you know! if you do, contact me as i'm a reseller and can give you some discount.

ok, what had happened lately? just past weekend, as my brother and family from singapore was in penang, he rented the noble villa apartment at macalister road with 3 rooms, he asked us (my mum, sis and i) to stay there for that 2 nights when he was there. very nice place, with fully equipped kitchen, good for long-term stay.

while there, on a sunday afternoon, the whole family (plus brother and family in penang) went for chinese course lunch at starview restaurant. during the night we went to straits quay. that was my second time being there. first time i was there, did not walk around. it was a friend who wanted to give us a treat that bought us there so we went straight to the restaurant – blue reef. and that sunday while we were there… again went to blue reef! arghh! it was my niece who wanted to go to that restaurant so i had no choice of course. the first time i was there, i think i had the pan fried or grilled salmon, which was nice but this time it was my mistake to choose the battered seafood galore. not that it was not nice but i can't eat too much of battered food. never mind, learn my lesson, next time won't ever order it.

after dinner, we walked around the pier and i was so fascinated by all the beautiful boats there. they must cost a bomb and probably owned by rich people, VVIP, royalty.

ok that's about my personal life… now what about the current socio political news? my blog is after all about this! oh yeah when i revamp my blog (how many times had i said that?) and started blogging actively again, i should concentrate more on socio political happenings and current news/issues than personal stuff.

the latest news that had been much talked about (at least on facebook) was the visit of najib, the PM! i'm saying "the PM" and not "our PM" since he is NOT our PM. we had no choice in choosing our PM! malaysia PM always has to come from UMNO. always the UMNO president will become the PM!!

ok back to his visit to penang. do you know he was so close to me? haha. i don't mean in person of course. i mean so close to where i stay when he visited penang – when he had a walkabout at the bayan baru market/food court. my flat is just somewhere opposite the market!

people had been talking about the promises he made when in penang – affordable housing and building MRT. huh? according to DAP, it's 'old news recycled'.  yalah, who will want to believe him? he was saying that to fish for votes! don't forget eh general election is coming.

another hot news that was well consider not recent – is about the allegation of deepak linking the PM to the late altantuya.  it seemed that he was (forced?) involved in arranging the second statuory declaration (SD) of bala, the private investigator, which means to say the 2nd SD was false and the 1st SD could be true! do you remember what the 1st SD was all about? no fear, i am here… i have blog about the 1st SD that time – you can read about it here.

interesting is no. 25:

===

25. During this discussion and in an attempt to persuade me to continue my employment with him, Abdul Razak Baginda informed me that:

1) He had been introduced to Aminah by Najib Razak at a diamond exhibition in Singapore.

2) Najib Razak informed Abdul Razak Baginda that he had a sexual relationship with Aminah and that she was susceptible to anal intercourse.

3) Najib Razak wanted Abdul Razak Baginda to look after Aminah as he did not want her to harass him since he was now the deputy prime minister.

4) Najib Razak, Abdul Razak Baginda and Aminah had all been together at a dinner in Paris.

5) Aminah wanted money from him as she felt she was entitled to a US$500,000 commission on a submarine deal she assisted with in Paris.

==

see? najib had met and know altantuya. i suppose he will swear on the koran again that he had not met altantuya before.  ahhh…. and if people are smart, they can speculate why altantuya was C4-ed based on the above.

altantuya case and the scorpene case are of course related. most people know about suaram hiring the french lawyers to investigate the scorpene case. the rakyat had been very mad when the govt. started to harass suaram over this! why is the PM so fearful for the lawyers to come to malaysia? why is the PM reluctant to be a witness? of course you know why i'm sure.

ok i'm going to stop talking now as it is near midnight. i really hope i will revamp my blog one day  and started blogging actively again (how long ago had i said that? how many times had i said that?).

note:  oops. i realised i can set my post to be published at a scheduled time, so i'll just set the time to 12.12! simple as that to get my post posted on 12.12.12.12.12 (12 dec. 2012, 12:12).

First impressions of Penang open 2012

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 07:24 PM PST

About a year ago, I mentioned to Lee Ewe Ghee, the current and fourth president of the Penang Chess Association that the PCA should be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012. The association had been founded in 1972 and is possibly the oldest surviving chess body in the country, being established even earlier than the Malaysian Chess Federation which was formed two years later. Obviously this significant opportunity had not been lost on Lee and his committee because the moment I stepped into the Grand Ballroom of the Red Rock Hotel in downtown George Town yesterday, this was the banner I saw:

Notice the "40th Anniversary" tucked away in the top left corner of the banner? Yes, that's the absolute fact that the members of the Penang Chess Association should be proud to mention to any other chess player friends from overseas or outstation. I can't speak for them, of course, but personally as one of the association's founding members, I'm immensely proud of the long journey which the PCA has covered so far. Long may the PCA still thrive.

The joy of experiencing the 40th anniversary is somewhat tinged by the revelation that the association's founding president, Fang Ewe Churh, had passed away only nine days earlier, on 2nd December. I wasn't around for the opening ceremony in the morning but I did hear that a one-minute's silence was called on the players and officials present to observe before the start of the first round. This is a fitting tribute to the man who galvanised the chess movement in the state.

The opening ceremony was officiated by one of Penang's most active State Assemblymen, Ng Wei Aik, who made the ceremonial first move on the top board game which was played on the stage, while the other games took place in the ballroom.

When I moved through the hotel and walked its narrow corridor before mounting the stairs to the first floor, I had not exactly prepared myself for the size of the tournament venue. I had to take a deep breath when I walked in. The ballroom was immense and suddenly I remembered that this was actually the old Gala Cinema. Years ago, this was one of newest cinemas that had sprung up on the island in the 1970s. Then it closed down and was used as a church premises for several years. The cinema hall had reverted back to the hotel when the new owners bought up the complex in 2007.

As I said, the size of the tournament hall was immense. Yet with the 200-plus participants here, the playing tables stretched from one end of the hall to the other and from one side to the other side. The players could not have asked for a better playing venue. It is a shame, though, that the PCA had to pay close to RM20,000 to use this impressive hall for five days. It is a greater shame that the hotel management had not deemed it fit to give the PCA a better discount especially since I heard that the association had also arranged to reserve 50 rooms for outstation players.

Definitely, I must comment on the hard work by these boys who were tasked with data entry of the players' scoresheets. They were so efficient that I was surprised to see all the games from the Open section already updated to chess-results.com within one or two hours after the end of the rounds. Great achievement, this. Do keep it up.

Isu Khalwat: The Star Jatuh Martabat Macam Utusan Malaysia

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 09:34 PM PST

Altered Immune Cells Beat Leukemia

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 07:00 PM PST

The following article written by Denise Grady was first featured HERE.

Emma Whitehead has been bounding around the house lately, practicing somersaults and rugby-style tumbles that make her parents wince.

It is hard to believe, but last spring Emma, then 6, was near death from leukemia. She had relapsed twice after chemotherapy, and doctors had run out of options.

Desperate to save her, her parents sought an experimental treatment at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, one that had never before been tried in a child, or in anyone with the type of leukemia Emma had. The experiment, in April, used a disabled form of the virus that causes AIDS to reprogram Emma's immune system genetically to kill cancer cells.

The treatment very nearly killed her. But she emerged from it cancer-free, and about seven months later is still in complete remission. She is the first child and one of the first humans ever in whom new techniques have achieved a long-sought goal — giving a patient's own immune system the lasting ability to fight cancer.

Emma had been ill with acute lymphoblastic leukemia since 2010, when she was 5, said her parents, Kari and Tom. She is their only child.

She is among just a dozen patients with advanced leukemia to have received the experimental treatment, which was developed at the University of Pennsylvania. Similar approaches are also being tried at other centers, including the National Cancer Institute and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

"Our goal is to have a cure, but we can't say that word," said Dr. Carl June, who leads the research team at the University of Pennsylvania. He hopes the new treatment will eventually replace bone-marrow transplantation, an even more arduous, risky and expensive procedure that is now the last hope when other treatments fail in leukemia and related diseases.

Three adults with chronic leukemia treated at the University of Pennsylvania have also had complete remissions, with no signs of disease; two of them have been well for more than two years, said Dr. David Porter. Four adults improved but did not have full remissions, and one was treated too recently to evaluate. A child improved and then relapsed. In two adults, the treatment did not work at all. The Pennsylvania researchers were presenting their results on Sunday and Monday in Atlanta at a meeting of the American Society of Hematology.

Pahang Dan Terengganu Berebut Kawasan Telaga Minyak Bertam
