Gantung Ahli Ekonomi BIMB, UMNO Menuju Kebinasaan

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 09:41 AM PST

Ramal BN kalah, Ketua Ekonomi Bank Islam digantung.

There's More To Life Than Happiness *MUST READ*

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 07:00 AM PST

In September 1942, Viktor Frankl, a prominent Jewish psychiatrist and neurologist in Vienna, was arrested and transported to a Nazi concentration camp with his wife and parents. Three years later, when his camp was liberated, most of his family, including his pregnant wife, had perished -- but he, prisoner number 119104, had lived.

In his bestselling 1946 book, Man's Search for Meaning, which he wrote in nine days about his experiences in the camps, Frankl concluded that the difference between those who had lived and those who had died came down to one thing: Meaning, an insight he came to early in life. When he was a high school student, one of his science teachers declared to the class, "Life is nothing more than a combustion process, a process of oxidation." Frankl jumped out of his chair and responded, "Sir, if this is so, then what can be the meaning of life?"

As he saw in the camps, those who found meaning even in the most horrendous circumstances were far more resilient to suffering than those who did not. "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing," Frankl wrote in Man's Search for Meaning, "the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

Frankl worked as a therapist in the camps, and in his book, he gives the example of two suicidal inmates he encountered there. Like many others in the camps, these two men were hopeless and thought that there was nothing more to expect from life, nothing to live for. "In both cases," Frankl writes, "it was a question of getting them to realize that life was still expecting something from them; something in the future was expected of them." For one man, it was his young child, who was then living in a foreign country. For the other, a scientist, it was a series of books that he needed to finish. Frankl writes:

This uniqueness and singleness which distinguishes each individual and gives a meaning to his existence has a bearing on creative work as much as it does on human love. When the impossibility of replacing a person is realized, it allows the responsibility which a man has for his existence and its continuance to appear in all its magnitude. A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the "why" for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any "how."

In 1991, the Library of Congress and Book-of-the-Month Club listed Man's Search for Meaning as one of the 10 most influential books in the United States. It has sold millions of copies worldwide. Now, over twenty years later, the book's ethos -- its emphasis on meaning, the value of suffering, and responsibility to something greater than the self -- seems to be at odds with our culture, which is more interested in the pursuit of individual happiness than in the search for meaning. "To the European," Frankl wrote, "it is a characteristic of the American culture that, again and again, one is commanded and ordered to 'be happy.' But happiness cannot be pursued; it must ensue. One must have a reason to 'be happy.'"

Malaysian PM caught up in murder, bribery scandal

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 04:58 AM PST

Najib Razak, Altantuya, Razak Baginda, scandal
THE plot has all the trappings of a B-grade movie: the murder of a glamorous Mongolian socialite amid allegations of high-level bribery, blackmail, betrayal and political cover-up.

But these are real-life events, and they could set back the chances of Malaysia's ruling coalition in an election that Prime Minister Najib Razak must call by midyear.
Mr Najib denies involvement but the allegations will not go away. The internet in Malaysia is running hot with allegations by a disaffected businessman, Deepak Jaikishan, who is well connected in the ruling United Malays National Organisation.
They relate in part to the alleged cover-up of the murder of 28-year-old Mongolian fashion model and translator Altantuya Shaariibuu in a patch of jungle in the Kuala Lumpur suburbs in 2006.

The second part of the controversy is driven by an inquiry in France into a complex money trail left by Malaysia's $US2 billion purchase of two French-Spanish built Scorpene submarines in 2002 while Mr Najib was defence minister.
Ms Shaariibuu worked as a translator in the latter stages of the deal negotiations.
The link between the two events is a Ferrari-driving businessman, Abdul Razak Baginda, one of Mr Najib's best friends and policy advisers, who was the director of the Malaysian Strategic Research Centre.
Mr Najib, who is preparing to contest his first election since being installed in power by his party in 2009, denies ever meeting Ms Shaariibuu or having any link with her. The government denies any wrongdoing in the submarine purchases.
But it was two of Mr Najib's bodyguards who dragged Ms Shaariibuu from a car, knocked her unconscious and shot her twice in the head on October 19, 2006, according to court testimony. She had begged for her life and apparently that of her unborn child.
The killers then wrapped her body in C4 plastic explosives obtained from the military and blew her up, ensuring the foetus was destroyed along with the identity of the father. For good measure, they erased her entry into Malaysia from immigration records.
The Scorpene submarine story has been tumbling out since 2002 when Mr Najib ordered them from French ship builder DCNS.
Two French investigating magistrates are looking into so-called ''commission'' payments of about $US160 million into companies reportedly set up by Mr Baginda. Documents have been seized from the DCNS offices in Paris.
Ms Shaariibuu, who spoke several languages, became Mr Baginda's lover after they had met in Hong Kong. Stunningly beautiful, she had been married to a popular Mongolian singer and to the son of a famous Mongolian fashion designer.
Ms Shaariibuu admitted in a letter found after her murder that she had been blackmailing Mr Baginda, who had jilted her after they had travelled through Asia and Europe together.
She reportedly had wanted a $US500,000 cut to remain silent about her knowledge of the deal.
Ms Shaariibuu was abducted outside Mr Baginda's house, where she was said to be causing a scene. Her murder was eventually uncovered following continued pressure from her well-connected family and the Mongolian embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
The two bodyguards were convicted of murder in 2009 but have claimed they are scapegoats and are appealing against death sentences. Pleading with a court not to execute him in February 2009, Sirul Azhar Umar described himself as a ''black sheep that has to be sacrificed'' to protect unnamed people.
''I have no reason to cause hurt, what's more to take the life of the victim in such a cruel manner,'' he said.
''I appeal to the court, which has the powers to determine if I live or die, not to sentence me so as to fulfil others' plans for me.''
A judge sensationally dropped an abetting a murder charge against Mr Baginda in 2008 before any evidence was heard and he is believed to be living in exile in Britain with his family.
Among several claims made by Mr Deepak - a carpet dealer - to opposition and independent websites are that he interceded to have a private detective change his 2008 sworn declaration that Mr Najib had had a sexual relationship with Ms Shaariibuu. The Prime Minister has repeatedly denied any relationship with Ms Shaariibuu, calling it a ''terrible lie''.
Often sensational claims and counter claims in the case have been barely reported in Malaysia's government-controlled mainstream media.
The Malaysian human rights non-government organisation SUARAM, whose approach to a magistrate in Paris in 2010 prompted the French investigation, has complained of official harassment.
But the claims are hot issues on opposition and independent websites, led by the Hong Kong-based Asia Sentinel online magazine, which published confidential files on the case last year and whose editor, John Berthelsen, has doggedly pursued the story for years.
Malaysia, with a population of 28 million, has an internet penetration of more than 62 per cent, one of the highest in south-east Asia.
Some commentators in Kuala Lumpur, including Wong Choon Mei writing in the Malaysia Chronicle, have speculated that 59-year-old Mr Najib could be forced from office before he gets to call the election. Jittery powerbrokers in UMNO fear that if he remains head of the coalition, they may lose to the opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, and his Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

There is infighting in UMNO, which has shared power in the country for more than 50 years, as the latest opinion polls show Mr Najib's approval rating has fallen to its lowest level in 16 months.
Wong wrote in the Chronicle on January 7 that UMNO watchers believed former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad had decided to throw his weight behind Deputy Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, and effect an 11th-hour change in leadership, although many have cautioned that such a move could boomerang and create even greater infighting.
But Mr Najib, the son of Malaysia's second prime minister, has emerged unscathed by the prosecution of his bodyguards and is publicly ignoring the French inquiry and Mr Deepak's claims as he presents himself as a reformist, abolishing several restrictive laws and implementing a program to bolster unity among ethnic groups.
Malaysia's economy has fared well and the country is considered by the Work Bank to be an attractive place to do business. On January 8, Mr Najib denied rumours he had suffered a minor stroke due to the pressure of the allegations by Mr Deepak, saying he is healthy. ''So don't listen to the blogs, please,'' he said.
Analysts say the election will be the strongest ever challenge to UMNO's rule. Mr Najib has called the coming election ''a defining point for the destiny of the people and country''.

The Real Cuban Missile Crisis

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 03:49 AM PST

On October 16, 1962, John F. Kennedy and his advisers were stunned to learn that the Soviet Union was, without provocation, installing nuclear-armed medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in Cuba. With these offensive weapons, which represented a new and existential threat to America, Moscow significantly raised the ante in the nuclear rivalry between the superpowers—a gambit that forced the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of nuclear Armageddon.

On October 22, the president, with no other recourse, proclaimed in a televised address that his administration knew of the illegal missiles, and delivered an ultimatum insisting on their removal, announcing an American "quarantine" of Cuba to force compliance with his demands. While carefully avoiding provocative action and coolly calibrating each Soviet countermeasure, Kennedy and his lieutenants brooked no compromise; they held firm, despite Moscow's efforts to link a resolution to extrinsic issues and despite predictable Soviet blustering about American aggression and violation of international law. In the tense 13‑day crisis, the Americans and Soviets went eyeball-to-eyeball.

Thanks to the Kennedy administration's placid resolve and prudent crisis management—thanks to what Kennedy's special assistant Arthur Schlesinger Jr. characterized as the president's "combination of toughness and restraint, of will, nerve, and wisdom, so brilliantly controlled, so matchlessly calibrated, that [it] dazzled the world"—the Soviet leadership blinked: Moscow dismantled the missiles, and a cataclysm was averted.

Every sentence in the above paragraph describing the Cuban missile crisis is misleading or erroneous. But this was the rendition of events that the Kennedy administration fed to a credulous press; this was the history that the participants in Washington promulgated in their memoirs; and this is the story that has insinuated itself into the national memory—as the pundits' commentaries and media coverage marking the 50th anniversary of the crisis attested.

Looking Back....

Pasta had not been invented

Curry was a surname

Olive oil was kept in the medicine cabinet

Spices came from the Middle East where they were used for embalming

Herbs were used to make rather dodgy medicine

A takeaway was a mathematical problem

A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower

Bananas and oranges only appeared at Christmas time

The only vegetables known to us were spuds, peas, carrots and cabbage

All crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to put the salt on or not

Condiments consisted of salt, pepper,  vinegar and brown sauce if we were lucky

Soft drinks were called pop

Coke was something that we put on the fire

A Chinese chippy was a foreign carpenter

Rice was a milk pudding, and never, ever part of our dinner

A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining

A Pizza Hut was an Italian shed

A microwave was something out of a science fiction movie

Brown bread was something only poor people ate

Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking

Bread and jam was a treat

Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green

Coffee was Camp, and came in a bottle

Cubed sugar was regarded as posh

Figs and dates appeared every Christmas, but no one ever ate them

Coconuts only appeared when the fair came to town

Jellied eels were peculiar to Londoners

Salad cream was a dressing for salads, mayonnaise did not exist

Hors d'oeuvre was a spelling mistake

The starter was our main meal. Soup was a main meal

Only Heinz made beans

Leftovers went in the dog

Special food for dogs and cats was unheard of

Fish was only eaten on Fridays

Fish didn't have fingers in those days

Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi

Ready meals only came from the fish and chip shop

For the best taste fish and chips had to be eaten out of old  newspapers

Frozen food was called ice cream

Nothing ever went off in the fridge because we never had one

Ice cream only came in one colour and one flavour

None of us had ever heard of yoghurt

Jelly and blancmange was only eaten at parties

If we said that we were on a diet, we simply got less

Healthy food consisted of anything edible

People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy

Indian restaurants were only found in India

Brunch was not a meal

If we had eaten bacon lettuce and tomato in the same sandwich we would have been certified

A bun was a small cake back then

The word" Barbie" was not associated with anything to do with food

Eating outside was a picnic

Cooking outside was called camping

Seaweed was not a recognised food

Pancakes were only eaten on Pancake Tuesday

"Kebab" was not even a word never mind a food

Hot dogs were a type of sausage that only the Americans ate

Cornflakes had arrived from America but it was obvious they would never catch on

The phrase "boil in the bag" would have been beyond comprehension

The idea of "oven chips" would not have made any sense at all to us

The world had not heard of Pot Noodles, Instant Mash and Pop Tarts

Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded as being white gold

Lettuce and tomatoes in winter were only found abroad

Prunes were medicinal

Surprisingly muesli was readily available in those days, it was called cattle feed

Turkeys were definitely seasonal

Pineapples came in chunks in a tin; we had only ever seen a picture of a real one

We never heard of Croissants; we certainly couldn't pronounce it

We thought that Baguettes were a problem the French needed to deal with

Garlic was used to ward off vampires, but never used to flavour food

Water came out of the tap, if someone had suggested bottling it  and charging more than petrol for it they would have become a laughing stock

Food hygiene was all about washing your hands before meals

Campylobacter, Salmonella, E.coli, Listeria, and Botulism were all called "food poisoning"

The one thing that we never ever had on our table in the fifties ….  elbows

Nenek Rugi RM3,500 Ditipu "Scan" Penyakit Guna Handfon

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 03:24 AM PST

-SH

Deepak Perlu Terus Dedahkan Penyelewengan

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 02:08 AM PST

Deepak: Saya hanya mahu dedah penyelewengan

The New Princess At Harvard

Posted: 13 Jan 2013 08:12 PM PST

Demurely dressed in a high-necked jumper on a chilly autumn day, the pretty 20-year-old brunette could be any university student.

But this photograph posted on Facebook shows Xi Mingze, the new 'princess' of China. As the cherished only daughter of China's new president Xi Jinping, Ms Xi, nicknamed Muzi, is being expensively educated in the US, where she has been enrolled under a pseudonym since 2010 at Harvard University, Massachusetts.

'She is a bookworm, very quiet and studious,' one of her acquaintances, a Chinese writer, told The Mail on Sunday last night.

Though she is said to be protected by bodyguards, she has shunned the party lifestyle of another Chinese 'princeling' at Harvard, Bo Guagua.

Mr Bo, whose mother Gu Kailai murdered British businessman Neil Heywood, was renowned at Oxford and Harvard as a playboy. His politician father, Bo Xilai, faces corruption charges.
In contrast, friends of Ms Xi say she devotes herself to her courses, which include political studies. She attended a discussion last spring about the political tumult convulsing China's Communist Party, where she reportedly listened 'intently' from the top row of the lecture hall.

Powerful: Xi Jinping became China's new leader last week

Flamboyant: Xi Mingze's mother Peng Liyuan is a well known singer

Her mother, a flamboyant People's Liberation Army singer, Peng Liyuan, 49, is Mr Xi's second wife.
Ms Xi was said to have been sent to America because her father is an admirer of Western culture.

PASCA HKR112: Peniaga Untung Besar, Makanan SOLD OUT

Posted: 13 Jan 2013 10:43 PM PST

-KD

No to 'Allah', no to women!

Posted: 13 Jan 2013 06:06 PM PST

"You say yes, I say no...you say high, I say low... I say hi, you say go go go...you say goodbye and I say hello...you say why and I say I don't know..." is part of The Beatles' song 'Hello, Goodbye', one of the hits during the 1970s.

I think it fits well in depicting Pakatan Rakyat's non-unison over some major issues, including the use of 'Allah' by Muslims and non-Muslims, PAS' hudud and the ban on women dancers to usher the Chinese New Year.

What a farce!
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS Syura Council has decided that the word "Allah" cannot be used to describe God in any non-Muslim publications.
The council in a written statement issued after a two-hour meeting to discuss the matter said that while the word "Allah" was universal and had been used by pre-Islamic Arabs, it could not be used as the translation for the word "God" from any other language.
"Therefore, translating 'God' or 'Lord' from any non-Muslim religious book into the word 'Allah' is forbidden because it is wrong in terms of meaning and use, does not fulfil the actual requirement and can bring confusion.
"Therefore, it must be prevented," read the six-paragraph statement signed by PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and his deputy Datuk Haron Din.
Looks like Nik Aziz refused to compromise with Penang CM Lim Guan Eng's Christmas message that the use of 'Allah' should be allowed among non-Muslim as a reference to God.

I wonder whether Lim himself uses 'Allah' in his daily prayers.

And in Kedah, non-Muslims expressed their shock over a State Government's ruling that adult women dancers are barred from any public performance during the festive CNY.

(In Kelantan recently, the social ruling imposed on non-Muslims met with heavy criticism from all quarters, including DAP and pro-Pakatan NGOs, on grounds that non-Muslims should be exempted from such regulations, and that is was against the basic individual rights).
ALOR STAR: The PAS-led Kedah government has threatened to interrupt a stage performance to usher in the Chinese New Year in adult women performers take part in the event.
The warning was relayed to the event organiser, which had drawn up plans to hold the performance in a shopping complex here on Feb 15.
The two-page directive was signed by state Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Dr Hamdan Mohamad Khalib.
The letter, dated Jan 19, also stated that if women performers were needed, only secondary schoolgirls should be engaged.
Since its going to be the Year of the Snake, let me suggest PAS to call in some snake-charmers to replace the women!

Pakatan Rakyat, amid avowing unity in organising street demonstrations which affected thousand or traders in Kuala Lumpur and other places, causing them millions of ringgit in losses, is still unable to find settlement to their teething problems.

So, how to rule Malaysia when PAS, DAP and PKR each takes different approach in solving matters like these? They will turn our Parliament into a monkeys cage!

Isu Kanak-kanak: UMNO BN Boleh, Org Lain Tak Boleh, Mengapa Dwi Standard?

Posted: 13 Jan 2013 07:21 PM PST

-mk

Ulasan GB

Dah bagus dipuji-puji kerana berjaya mengawal keselamatan semasa #HKR 112, tiba-tiba polis buat kenyataan nak siasat penganjur.
