Sabah RCI 'buka pekong di dada'

Sabah RCI 'buka pekong di dada'

Sabah RCI 'buka pekong di dada'

Former PM Tun Dr Mohamad admitted that his government did issue Malaysian identification card to qualified Pinoys, and that he is willing to testify before the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) set up by PM Najib's government to investigate the issue in Sabah.

Those issue with the IDs, he said qualified after meeting all the standard procedures set by the law. Its fine to me.

Home Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, on the other hand advised the public not to speculate anything on the RCI findings, forgetting it is now becoming a political package for the opposition to hammer us in Barisan Nasional.

The RCI is fast back firing at the government, and at Umno. I believe some of us are getting worried since the general election is just around the corner.

Its just a matter of wrong timing and improper handling. Just like the failed 6P program introduced by the Home Ministry in August last year (it was fasting month and the duration was too short to cover more than 5 million foreigners in the country), the RCI was called when local politics are taking a new turn due to the rise of the opposition while national poll is expected within the next few months.

It looks more like we are submitting to demands from the opposition, which in the end strips us naked all around.

I thought the setting up of the RCI was merely to investigate the number of citizenship awarded to foreigners in Sabah since the mid 1970s and find solution to it - either to accept them as Malaysians or to determine other factors in picking the really qualified ones.

Of course we cannot be seen as being to harsh on them as many of them fled their country, notably the war-torn southern Philippines during the 1970s and 1980s. They were refugees, just like the Bosnians whom we brought in and granted with PR status during the 1990s.

The Commission, to me, is suppose to carry out investigation by betting the exact number of foreigners in Sabah, including their family members and those given Malaysian citizenship.

Instead, the RCI is fast becoming a 'court' by reprimanding those involved in the 'IC project' without having a summary as to how the matter should be solved. Its more like pointing fingers and implicating those behind it.

All eight terms of reference under the RCI also did not mention anything about finding ways to solve the issue, except for conducting inquiries and to enquire. Nothing was stated about effort to solve the problems.

Of course the setting up of the Commission reflects the sincerity of BN government to address the matter but one question remains unanswered - how are we going to settle it? Is it by revoking all the ICs, applying a new method to determine those really qualified or to send home some of them?

The manner in which the inquiry is being conducted is like bringing out the dead from the graves and leave them to 'go back' by themselves.

We got to understand the situation. These people have been here for decades, some already holding senior government position and elected to party positions, including in Umno Sabah. Some have with them their parents, grandchildren and children of their own, born, studied and grew up in the State.

Most of them are still without valid indentification documents. What are going to do with them? Flush them out?

The CRI too should cover the Peninsula as similar problems occur. While the Home Ministry, via its Immigration Dept imposes strict measure on foreigners, they are short-handed at its enforcement level, thus providing enough space for the foreigners, especially from Indonesia, to establish their own settlements in many places, including Batang Kali, Ulu Langat and Sabah Bernam.

And they too have the aged and children. The 6P did not give emphasis to determine the number of illegal immigrants and foreigners in the country as it was only meant to register the legal and illegal immigrants, and not to set up a data bank on their spouses, parents and children.

The opposition, believe me, will start to point fingers at Dr Mahathir, Najib and others as those responsible for the immigration 'chaos' in Sabah. Names like former Sabah chief minister Harris Salleh and former Deputy Home Minister Megat Junid Megat Ayob are now high on the Commission's 'wanted list'.

About 167 witnesses will testify before the RCI 'court'. Just like the Suhakam inquiry into Bersih 3.0, the RCI can expect more answer that could implicate our previous governments. Like it or not, it bears negative impact on BN in facing the next general election.

So, what is the solution once the RCI completes its 'trial' on the witnesses?

Kes "Pak Janggut": Utusan Kalah Lagi, Pintu Rayuan Berakhir!

Posted: 17 Jan 2013 09:55 AM PST

-HD

Interfaith bridge building

Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus .

Christmas a time for bridge building 12/25/2012 – Interfaith Religious Social – Article Ref: IC0612-3182 Number of comments: 34 By: Abdul Malik Mujahid

Treating Christmas with Respect

Christmas is an annual Christian religious holiday commemorating the birth of Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him. For many Muslims who do not even celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, it becomes an issue of what stand they should take.

There have been a number of legitimate criticisms of the holiday from Muslims and non-Muslims based on theological and cultural considerations. However, this cannot be used to disregard the holiday as merely an exercise in ancient pagan practices, for instance, or excessive consumerism. Muslims have to remember that for practicing Christians, Christmas really is about Jesus .

Prophet Muhammad , was so accommodating of Christians that according to the two earliest Islamic historians, Ibn e Saad and Ibn Hisham, the Prophet even allowed a delegation of 60 Byzantine Christians from Najran in Yemen to worship in his own mosque in Madinah. Lead by their bishop (Usquf), they had come to discuss a number of issues with him. When time of their prayer came, they asked the Prophet's permission to perform this in the mosque. He answered, "conduct your service here in the mosque. It is a place consecrated to God."

God expects us to stay away from mocking the religious beliefs of others, no matter how much we disagree with them. He says in the Quran: "And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides God, lest they insult God wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair-seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do" (Quran, 6:108).

We also have to remember that even if for many nominal Christians, the celebration is not really about participating in religious traditions, Christmas is a time for families to get together. In a number of cases it is the only time of year families get together, either because family members are scattered in different parts of the country or the world, because of communication and relationship problems, or because in America today, the family unit is becoming weaker and weaker.

Christmas is a great time to relate to our neighbors. We should not forget though, that "relating" does not mean "preaching". Dawa cannot be made in a rude manner. Allah says in the Quran: "Invite (all) to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful advice, and reason with them by ways that are the best and most gracious: because your Lord knows best, (those) who have strayed from His Path, and those who receive guidance " (Quran, 16:125).

In particular, when dealing with Jews and Christians, Allah says: "Do not argue with the People of the Book unless it is in the politest manner, except for those of them who do wrong. Say: 'We believe in what has been sent down to us and what has been sent down to you. Our God and your God is [the same] One, and we are Muslims before Him'" (Quran, 29:46).

This may not be an occasion to emphasis the differences as much as the commonality of our beliefs, unless someone is really asking you about them.

A starting point for a discussion about Christmas could be the Islamic belief in all Books revealed by Allah and all Prophets sent by Him. In this discussion, special emphasis could be made on Prophet Jesus . Non-Muslims are often surprised to discover that Muslims also believe in this noble Prophet and his great mother Mary (peace be upon her).

Remember that respect does not mean compromise. This article is not asking you to compromise anything. You have freedom of religion given by God to believe in what you believe in. But in a world where conflict is increasing, a Muslim should be a bridge- builder and a peacemaker. It was due to the Muslim practice of Islamic ideals of respect and tolerance that the key of the holiest Christian Shrine in Jerusalem, the church of the Holy Sepulcher, remains entrusted with a Muslim family, as it has been for over 1400 years.

These are the lessons which need to be learned by those extremists who attack Christians during their worship in Nigeria and those extremists who burn Masjids in the USA.

Blogger UMNO, Pisau.Net Akhirnya Tersungkur Kerana Memfitnah!

Isu tanah Kelantan: akui fakta silap

You Can't Cry in Space

Posted: 17 Jan 2013 03:30 AM PST

In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel, in the midst of a seven-hour spacewalk, got something in his eye.

Feustel and fellow astronaut Mike Fincke had just finished running power cables from the U.S. side of the International Space Station to the Russian, and -- at the EVA's five-hour mark -- some anti-fogging solution from the inside of Feustel's helmet had begun to flake. One of those flakes, swirling in the modified snow globe that is a spacesuit helmet, ended up in precisely the place you wouldn't want it to.

"Just as an FYI, my right eye is stinging like crazy right now," the astronaut announced to his team. "It's watering a lot. Must have gotten something in it."

Fincke's reply? "Sorry, buddy."

Which was an appropriately mellow response, because Feustel's liquid little plight wasn't an emergency: He managed to wiggle down far enough in his spacesuit to reach the spongy device typically used to block the nose in case of a pressure readjustment -- and to use that to rub his eye. Which did the trick. But the episode was a reminder that much of the science -- much of the experimentation in general -- being done on the orbiting lab of the space station is being conducted, by default, on the humans who call the vehicle home. Knowledge -- about zero-gravity's effect on the body, about space as a human environment -- reveals itself in fits and starts, through unexpected events like the flaking of anti-fogging solution in an astronaut's helmet. In this case, Feustel's tearjerker was a reminder of the fact that astronauts, technically, can't cry.

Astronauts can, certainly, tear up -- they're human, after all. But in zero gravity, the tears themselves can't flow downward in the way they do on Earth. The moisture generated has nowhere to go. Tears, Feustel put it, "don't fall off of your eye ... they kind of stay there." NASA spacewalk officer Allison Bollinger, who oversaw Feustel's EVA, confirmed this assessment. "They actually kind of conglomerate around your eyeball," she said.

In other words, yep: There's no crying in space.

Malaysia dont care about us; Myanmar Muslims or Rohingyas

Posted: 17 Jan 2013 01:42 AM PST

Rohingyas are in Malaysia for about 30 years. If their children are denied education, second generation Rohingyas would just become labourers or some bad ones would involve in drugs and could become criminals.

I HEARD (hearsay only) that some Rohingyas without Passports, are allowed to attend the UIA when DSAI was the education minister. After graduation, most of them got jobs, earned enough to go back and bribed the Myanmar authorities, obtained Passports and came back here to work or further their studies. Some even got Ph.Ds!

Mr J***te was one of those lucky Rohingyas. He is my friend and my patient. After getting M.Sc. he worked part-time and overtime to support his family and his wife's Ph. D. studies. Both of them were working as lecturers in Malaysian Universities. They applied for PR here but rejected. So they applied for PR in Canada and accepted. He went to stay in Canada to continue his Ph D and of course to get citizenship. Now only they applied again (because wife came back with family and continue working here) and got Malaysian PR.

Another Rohingya is my friend Dr. Kamal. Because his family is rich and have connections, he just crossed the border to Bangladesh. He met Malaysian NGO, ABIM President there. He managed to get Bangladesh Passport and followed here and just worked in the Rohingya section of ABIM. When his boss met me, he was surprised that I was able to work in UHKL and introduced Dr. Kamal to me to find job for him.

As a Rohingya Medical Doctor he was so simple and scared to apply for the job as his certificates were from Burma and he was holding Bangladesh Passport. Actually in the free world, born in one place, citizen of another country, holding PR from another, got degree and works in different places are no problem as long as the documents are genuine.

In short he got a job in UM and once he finished that contract Dr. Nay Aung Kyaw helped him to get a job in UKM Student Clinic. He got the Masters in Computer Science while working for ten years. When he got the youngest child he could not get extension of endorsement in the Passport as Bangladesh government became very strict with Rohingyas.

After working for 14 yrs as a Medical Doctor and with the MSc degree, his PR application was rejected. So he went to Australia with the family and declared Asylum. During the process they were allowed to stay and he got the approval (like PR) within three months. After another two years, he got the citizenship.

I could not understand why Malaysia refused to consider even for those educated Rohingyas. I wrote a letter to TAAB with the list of Myanmar Muslims and Rohingyas who were denied considering by his Home Ministry. NO REPLY.

Another Rohingya I wish to highlight was the late Ko San Lin Aung @ Altaff. My well connected Malaysian friend, Encik Ramli helped him to see the Director of Education so that he could send his daughter to the Government School. The Director asked him to get the Passport and refused his request as he had the UNHCR ID only. He was so angry and told off that Non-believer Myanmar Military government was better than his gov as he and his wife were allowed to attend universities and got degrees. At last he got the refugee status in Norway and his child was promised to be given free education up to the university graduation.

For the downtrodden Myanmar Muslims who came to Malaysia, I have wrote and requested many times not for IMM 13, refugee status, PR or citizenship BUT to just give easily the visas, extension of visas to work or to study. But the Malaysian government doesn't care for us whether we are Burmese Muslims or Rohingyas.

But they cannot even give a IMM 13 or temporary visa for Rohingyas (Note: I am not a Rohingya). We know that 30,000 Achenese are still holding those refugee status here although the Ache rebels are now allowed to gov their own state. No war, no disaster. (Tsunami is already a history)

Malaysian Gov had built 3000 schools (NOT a school for 3000 students) for the Indonesian Illegal Immigrants in East Malaysia and the Indon gov helped back by sending teachers for those 3000 schools. This was reported while our PM visited Indonesia, each leader thanking one another. Why gov never build schools for refugees from Myanmar including Rohingyas. They are also not allowed to attend gov schools. If gov build schools for them there are A LOT of NGOs willing to provide with teachers or could even bring in teachers from Myanmar if Malaysian gov is going to give visas for them like the Indonesian teachers.

Flying AirAsia or JetStar?

Posted: 16 Jan 2013 10:28 PM PST

I happened to be away from Penang earlier this week. Caught an AirAsia flight on the way out on Sunday and returned by JetStar on Tuesday. This was only the third time that I had flown by Jetstar while returning from Singapore.

In my opinion, JetStar's cabin services remain far more superior to AirAsia's. Their cabin crew are much more polite and helpful. Without being asked, they would unhesitatingly help the passengers with stowing away their bags in the overhead compartments, whereas AirAsia's cabin crew would invariably just stand and watch the passengers struggle on their own. Big plus point for Jetstar.

That's one of my two main reasons that sets the two airlines apart. The other reason?

Jetstar uses the aerobridge at the Penang International Airport while AirAsia forces their passengers to walk up and down some flights of stairs just to get into their aircraft. It precludes and discriminates the elderly from flying their airline. This was actually my primary concern last year when I brought my aunt and my in-laws to Singapore for a holiday. Choosing Jetstar over AirAsia became a no brainer.

It is a very stupid policy by AirAsia. It has been mentioned before by the media - for example, here and here - that the cost is only about 25 cents per passenger to use the aerobridge based on a full load of passengers. Apparently, AirAsia looks too stingy to fork out this amount, true to their low-cost business model, but in the process they inconvenience and alienate a significant segment of those who want to fly with them.

If I have a choice, I wouldn't use AirAsia and I know that I do have a choice on the Penang-Singapore sector.

Anti-Inflammatory Herbs that Crush Pain

Posted: 16 Jan 2013 10:30 PM PST

This article by Jesse Cannone was first posted HERE.

Anti-inflammatory herbs are much like a gift within a gift.

Not only are these herbs a versatile and delicious way to liven up your meals…

They're one of nature's most potent weapons to stop and prevent pain.

In this article, I'd like to introduce to six most powerful anti-inflammatory herbs that are some of mother nature's safest and most effective pain relievers.

And the best part?

These herbs make delicious ingredients for cooking and drinks you can enjoy while healing:

#1: Chamomile

Remember the classic children's tale, Peter Rabbit?

Peter's mother gave him chamomile tea when he was feeling ill. Turns out she knew what she was doing and it's worth your while to drink chamomile tea, too!

Scientific studies demonstrate chamomile is an excellent anti-inflammatory…

Well-known to help with stomach aches, but helpful with pain elsewhere too.

It's also a very calming herb, so if you experience stress it can help you relax.

#2: Fenugreek

Fenugreek (which in Latin means "green hay") is another excellent anti-inflammatory.

Studies have even shown it can reduce high triglyceride blood levels! Some say its taste is similar to maple syrup.

The greens and sprouts are a tasty addition to a salad and the seeds provide excellent seasoning to a variety of meats, stews, and sauces.

It's a common addition to Indian cooking (and you can typically find it in Indian and ethnic markets.)

#3: Ginger

Ginger is a welcome and extremely versatile ingredient in many foods, from meats and veggies to drinks and desserts.

In fact, ginger's anti-inflammatory properties have been known and appreciated for centuries.

It's traditionally been used as an excellent herb for migraines and stomach pains.

By the way, ginger tea can be a big help if you experience heartburn, and it's even been shown to be very helpful with those experiencing morning sickness!

Bila "Anjing Tersepit" Dilepaskan: KJ Tak Mengaku Tarik Balik Kenyataan

Posted: 17 Jan 2013 12:34 AM PST

Bangang!

Time we learn bridge building Musings By Marina Mahathir

In the past when mutual suspicion and mistrust increased between Malaysians of different faiths, very little has been done to build the bridge of trust and friendship we badly need.

I WATCHED an extraordinary video the other day.

In it, the imam of the Omar Makram mosque in Cairo, Egypt went with a delegation of 1,000 from his congregation to attend a Christmas service at the Qasr Al-Dubarah Church, also in Cairo.

Invited to speak, the imam sounded a clarion call for tolerance, respect, dignity, humanity and unity amidst difference and tumult.

He also stated that Christians and Muslims must be united against any foreign and internal plots at increasing sectarianism or imposing imperialist / colonialist designs on the Egyptian nation.

When I reposted this video on Facebook, people responded with delighted surprise, both Muslims and those of other faiths.

Obviously we are all hungry for positive actions and messages like this.

A group called MyJihad that aims to reclaim the word 'jihad' to mean a personal journey and goal to do something good first posted the video.

At the end of it, MyJihad stated that their jihad was to build bridges between faiths.

It struck me that in the past few years when mutual suspicion and mistrust has increased between Malaysians of different faiths, very little has been done to build bridges and create peace.

Everyone, especially politicians and religious officials with a political bent seem keener on burning bridges instead.

Each day another hurtful word is said, another suspicion aroused, another seed of mistrust sowed.

It is only because ordinary Malaysians are far more sensible than their leaders that there has been so little violence unlike say, in places like Pakistan.

For that we have to be thankful.

Yet, it doesn't take much if one were so determined to build up the seeds into a many-branched tree of hatred.

Not only are bridges being set alight between faiths but also within faiths.

Those of us who want to be more respectful, conciliatory and generous are told that we are at risk of losing our faith.

Yet in this video, here was an imam, educated in the venerable institution of AlAzhar, who walks into a mosque, embraces his Christian brothers and states that it's his Islamic duty to be kind and neighbourly to them.

He stresses that what Egypt needs now more than ever is unity between all her people, regardless of faith or creed, because they have so much to do the right the wrongs of the past, and repair the damage done by years of misrule.

It struck me that unity is also what Malaysians need: all of us, not just some.

Once upon a time we stood firm against attempts by colonialists to divide and rule us.

Starting now, we must do so again.

We must therefore find ways to reach out to each other in peace.

I know a lot of people have great ideas on how to do this, especially on neighbourly and community levels which is where it is most needed.

But the idea that struck me most while watching this video is one that seems most obvious.

Just as we have twinning of cities in Malaysia with cities around the world, why can't we have twinned places of worship?

Why can't a mosque and a church pair up and do things together?

For example, they could, like the imam of Omar Makram mosque and the pastor of the church, visit each other especially during special occasions.

At other times, they could do gotong-royong at each other's premises or have family days.

In this way, the congregation of the mosque and the church can build a relationship with each other to not only understand each other better but also in building that bridge of trust and friendship we so badly need.

[MELETUP] Surat Nikah Fathul Bari Di Selatan Thailand Tersebar

Posted: 16 Jan 2013 09:30 PM PST

Fathul Bari Berkahwin Gadis Filipina?
