We need no fucking kangaroo!

We need no fucking kangaroo!

We need no fucking kangaroo!

Home Minister Hishamuddin Tun Hussein yesterday confirmed that the detention of Australian senator Nick Xenophon's at the budget airport in Sepang in the morning was in accordance with the law, and nothing's political about it.

He also rubbished reports the authorities saw the Australian senator as an enemy of the state and were politically motivated to keep him out of Malaysia ahead of Election 2013, and that there was nothing irregular about the immigration's move to hold the vocal Australian lawmaker until he can be deported.

Malaysians too, he said were subjected to the same rules and regulations, anywhere they go. Immigration DG Alias Ahmad confirmed that Xenophon's detention was under Section 8(3) of the Immigration Act which provided for the authorities to bar him entry as a 'prohibited immigrant'.

A report Down Under said the senator has acted as an emissary for Malaysian Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, carrying a letter warning of infringements on democracy to the federal government.

Xenophon's detention has also caused the cancellation of a visit to Malaysia by a delegation of Australian MPs from all major parties.
Speaking by phone from the airport, Senator Xenophon, an independent, described his detention as ''bizarre''.
''They have told me I am a security risk,'' he said.
In an separate interview with Sky News, he said: ''I was eventually told apologetically by immigration officials that I am on a watch list, that there are orders from above in terms of security concerns and I have to be deported on the next flight out of here.''
Only hours before Senator Xenophon's arrest, Mr Anwar lashed out at Foreign Minister Bob Carr in an interview with Fairfax Media, revealing he asked in the letter for Australia to speak about Malaysia's rigged political system...
(Political rigged system! Hmmmm... that sounds more like Australia some years ago when they turned away the Aborigines from being representatives at the Parliament. So, who's actually talking now? The fucking kangaroos?)

Of course Anwar Ibrahim rides well on his buddy's detention. He even lashed out at the Aussia PM Gillard government over its failure to speak out about widespread election fraud in Malaysia.
Mr Anwar told Fairfax Media it is hypocritical of Australia to speak out about democracy in other countries such as Afghanistan but not support Malaysia in what he described as its dirtiest ever campaign.
After a meeting and receiving the letter from Mr Anwar, Senator Carr told the ABC that Malaysia's elections are a matter for the Malaysian people.
''It's very hard for Australia to do anything about how they're run, as hard as it would be for Malaysia or another government to have a say in how Australian elections are run… we're not the election authority for Malaysia,'' Senator Carr said.
Carr was absolutely taking the right stand there. Why should Australia meddle in our political system when they themselves don't allow outside intervention to theirs?

Anwar, who was part of the alleged 'rigged political system'  now needs more than just a walking stick from his friends outside the country. Recently, he got former Indonesian president BJ Habibie's support. But BJ was not stopped or detained at the airport upon arrival as he followed all immigration procedures.

Carr has made it clear that it's not Aussie's right to step into Malaysia's political turf. So, why are Xenophon and few others got so nosy about it when more delicate political matters are brewing in their country?

We don't need these fucking kangaroos here. Better go home and screw each other in discreet. If you don't allow us to say a word about your political system, is there a reason for us to allow you say something about ours?

allah: a non issue really

our dear bishop paul tan did it again – spoken up so wonderfully well.  this time on an issue that is close to my heart…. which i used to speak up on at the time i was active blogging. therefore i just have to record down here in my blog what he had said so well.

'Allah' a non issue really
by Bishop Paul Tan
Free Malaysia Today

The reason why I write this short article is to dispel all doubts about facts, truths and rationality in the use of the word Allah, a non-issue really. It becomes an issue when it is being politicised which is the case in Malaysia. This article is not intended to be polemical.

First, allow me to make a few introductory remarks.

(1) I do not pretend to speak for every Christian, less still for everyone. I speak for many people who do not profess the Islamic faith in Malaysia and perhaps for a number of Muslims in and out of Malaysia.

(2) I do not claim that Christians must use the word Allah. It is up to everyone in accordance to his or her conviction.

(3) I only claim for every human being the right and freedom to use any word found in any language. Upholding this principle, I personally claim that I have the right to use the word Allah.

In this present Malaysian context, it must be said explicitly: it is not that Christians want to use the word to confuse Muslims; rather, it is taking a stand that no one has the power to take away the God-given right to a human person the freedom to use whatever word he or she wants to use provided the rights of others are not being violated.

If certain Muslims in Malaysia feel that their rights are being violated, they have only to look at history to know that for centuries, Christians in Islamic countries, especially in the Middle Eastern countries where Islam was born, have been using the word Allah without stirring up any storm in the tea cup.

To say that using the word Allah may confuse the Muslims in Malaysia is tantamount to casting aspersion on them because it is accusing them of having a faith so weak that, unlike their Muslim brothers and sisters in other countries, they are easily shaken because people of other faiths use the word Allah for God. Sikhs, Bahai's, Maltese, Mizrahi Jews, etc., use Allah. More of this later.

In the same setting, I would like to emphasise that Malaysia is a constitutional or parliamentary democracy and not a theocratic state, in concrete, an Islamic state; say what you want, the fact remains that at the inception of the Federal Constitution, our founding fathers did not want Malaysia to be an Islamic state.
Our founding father Tunku Abdul Rahman's statement on the matter is the best testimony.

The Sultan of Selangor and the Sultan of Pahang have banned non-Muslims from using the term Allah. Our Federal Constitution does not give any sultan the power to dictate to people of other faiths what religious rules that they must follow.

People of faiths other than those of Islam have their own religious heads who govern and tell them what is right or wrong in accordance with their religious beliefs.

Facts and reasoning

My claim of human right for everyone on the use of any word from any language, in this case the word Allah, is based on the following facts and reasoning.

Allah is a pre-Islamic word used by Arabs, e.g., the Arabs in Mecca, before Prophet Muhammad was born.
For these Arabs, the word, Allah, means "creator deity". It is therefore not an Islamic creation and Muslims have no exclusive claim to it although they may and have injected into it specific nuances.

If the Holy Prophet Muhammad wanted Muslims to use a specific word with special connotations that others did not have, he would have created a new word and not use a word already used by the Arabs and Arab Christians before his time.

Besides, Christians, Mizrahi Jews, Bahai's, Maltese, Sikhs, and others use the same word. The Skhs have publicly proclaimed that their Holy Scriptures have used the word Allah 37 times. The Sikhs ask the rhetorical question: Are they also forbidden to read and pray their Scriptures?

This word Allah and its cognates are found in many languages. Just to give a few examples:

in Urdu/Persian/Dari/Uyshur, it is the same word, Allah; in Bengali, and in Bosnian languages, it is also Allah; in Czech and Slovak languages, it is Allach, etc.,

In the Holy Quran, it is written clearly that Jews, Christians, Sabeans worship Allah. Allow me to quote only one surah – surah 2:62: "Those who believe in the Quaran and those who follow the Jewish Scriptures and the Christians and the Sabeans… who so believe in God (Allah) and the last day…

In our own country, in Sabah and Sarawak, our Bumiputera, e.g., Kadazans, Ibans, Bidahyus, Melanaus, etc., have been using the word Allah in their languages for umpteen years.

No country in the world, including the Arab countries in the Middle East and, closer to Malaysia, Indonesia, forbids non-Muslims from using the word Allah. Christians in these countries have been using it for centuries. At present, there are about 10 to 12 million Arab Christians using the word Allah for God.

If some Malaysian Muslims claim that non-Muslims cannot use the word because the Malaysian Muslims' understanding of Allah is unique to them, then logically they are saying that the Arab Muslims also have a different understanding of Allah from their understanding because the Arab Muslims use the word Allah for God and allow Christians to use the same word.

Consequently, we would be a laughing stock of enlightened people in the world if we were to continue to make criminals of people of faiths other than those of Islam because they use the word Allah.

I have in my possession a Dutch Gospel according to St Matthew or in Malay Language, Injil Matius, in the book "Nuevve Testament." It was translated into the Malay language in 1629. In it, the word for God is translated as Allah. There are other Christian literatures translated into the Malay language after 1629 using Allah for God.

There is only one God

Permit me to quote wholesale Malaysiakini on what lawyer Annou Xavier said:

"The May 4, 2009 order by the court, according to Annou, stated the applicant (Jilil Ireland Lawrence Bill, a Melanau Christian) be given a declaration that it is within her legitimate expectation to use the word Allah and have ownership, to obtain, use and import such materials including printing items with the word for her own practice."

He further brought MAIS's attention to a circular, dated April 11, 2011 and endorsed by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak himself, which stated that the government has agreed that non-Muslims may import, buy, print, distribute, read and use the bible in any language, including Bahasa Malaysia.

Further to this, although the issue is still pending on the appeal to the court of appeal, KL High Court has ruled on Dec 31 2009 that the ban on the use of the word "Allah" by people of faiths other than those of Islam is illegal.

There is only one God, call Him/Her/It whatever you want, Brahman, God, Almighty, Absolute, Allah, Shang Ti or Tian or Tian Zhu. The One Creator does not change just because we humans change the word or the meaning of the word. He is the One Creator of all creatures.

Hence, to forbid people who profess faiths other than those who profess Islam is to say that Allah is not the creator of non-Muslims.

This would indeed be a blasphemy to Allah. A greater insult would be to confine Allah to Muslims and consequently logically to admit that there are other gods, true or false, besides Him/Her/It. This would be against the very tenet of Islam that there in only one God.

God does not speak in human words. Words are created by the human mind that wants to convey to others that which he or she sees, hears, smells, touches and tastes.

From what comes through these senses, the human person extrapolates with his/her intelligence all the common features of similar things and comes up with a symbolic word, e.g., that is a "tree".

God is spirit. The Absolute has no human body through which It comes to know. The Almighty does not speak in any human language. He/She/It is beyond and above all limited human language.

Why must one pray in a particular language, be it in Latin or in Arabic or in Pali, etc.,? This human rule seems to say that God or Allah can only understand that one language. This is tantamount to limiting the power of God to being able to understand only one language.

It is also equivalent to saying that there are other gods who can understand other languages. It defeats the basic belief of the monotheist religions that believe that there is only one god, one god, creator of all things.
Hence, to limit that absolute being to any human word would be equivalent to making Him/Her/It a human being. This is what we humans say: "to anthropomorphise" the Absolute Almighty. It would be an insult to make Him/Her/It less than what IS.

From the above, it is clear that to forbid anyone from using any word for that Absolute Almighty is to fall into irrationality and absurdity. It is against all reasoning, all facts and truths.

Dato` Siti Nurhaliza Rasa Lengkap Setelah Berhijrah

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 09:47 AM PST

-Murai

What the f**k are they doing about this armed invasion? Pussies!!!!

By Roel Pareño (The Philippine Star) Updated February 16, 2013 - 12:00am
MANILA, Philippines - The more than 100 fully armed Filipinos holed up since Wednesday in a remote coastal town in Sabah were on a mission to press the claim of the Sultanate of Sulu on Sabah, an official of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) said yesterday. "They went there because they wanted to go back to their homeland Sabah, which is part of the Sultanate of Sulu," said Habib Mujahab Hashim, MNLF central committee member and chairman of the Islamic Command Council.
"However, they were rounded up by the Malaysian security forces because close to 100 of them were armed," Hashim said, citing reports he received from the field. He said there were more than 200 Filipino Muslims involved in the standoff. He stressed the armed men were not detained but were merely invited for questioning. He said the group was sent back to Tawi-Tawi "after hours of negotiation." It was not clear as of press time if the group had indeed left the secluded coastal village of Lahad Datu some 500 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu.
A ranking military official said MNLF chairman Nur Misuari orchestrated the standoff to attract the attention of the Philippine government and the international community.  "It has something to do with Misuari's continuing claim of Sabah being part of the Philippines. Misuari just wants to show off. The MNLF may have forged a peace agreement with the government but Misuari has not given up on his claim of Sabah," the military official who declined to be named said.
He said the so-called Royal Sultanate Army began to recruit members in the early 2000s. "The following years they never gave the Philippine government any problem until this standoff in Sabah. The Royal Sulu Sultanate Army has been behaving well since then, until they went to Lahad Datu and declared they have the right to stay in Sabah," the source said. The source also linked the Sabah standoff to MNLF's attacks on Abu Sayyaf strongholds in Patikul, Sulu.
"It was even what we call in the military an acoustic war as no bodies of the dead turned up but only sounds of weapons being fired," The STAR source said.He said Misuari attempted to seek refuge in Sabah after his men launched attacks in Zamboanga City. "But always the Malaysian government turned him over to the Philippine government," the source said. "That is why Misuari would always be bitter against Malaysia." Foreign affairs officials said they were informed by Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman yesterday morning of the ongoing negotiations with the armed men, who identified themselves as members of the "royal army" of the Sultanate of Sulu.
In a press briefing, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said they were still verifying information regarding the standoff. She said that contrary to allegations by Malaysian authorities, the Filipinos were not armed based on information from the Department of National Defense. "We are trying to ascertain the facts that are attendant to the story. The Philippine embassy in Malaysia had already dispatched our police attaché to that particular area to see what's happening and we continue to monitor the situation," Valte said. She also said the Philippine government is ready to extend whatever legal or humanitarian assistance those involved in the standoff might require.
"As a general rule, it is the duty of the government to help extend assistance to any Filipino abroad, wherever they may be. At this point, however, we would like to ascertain the facts first," she said. The Philippines has a standing claim on Sabah, which is part of the Sultanate of Sulu leased to the British North Borneo Co. in 1878. In 1963, Britain transferred control of Sabah to Malaysia. The Sultanate of Sulu protested the handover, saying it was a violation of the Sabah Lease agreement of 1878.
'Decolonization'
The arrival of the armed group was a prelude to the filing of a petition before the United Nations for the "decolonization" of Sabah by the Sultanate of Sulu, a lawyer with links to the sultanate said. He said the sultanate should first show proof that it is occupying the territory in question before filing a UN petition to reclaim it. "The Sultanate of Sulu wants to file their petition next month when the 50-year lease of the British government on the island expires," he said. "I believe the presence of the Sultanate royal army is to bolster their claim that they have already re-occupied their ancestral land," he said.
He said Malaysian authorities may have them arrested but such action may only confirm their physical presence in the territory. The Bureau of Immigration (BI), for its part, said it was trying to determine if the Filipinos involved in the standoff passed through the bureau's three border crossing stations in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. "I will still have to check with our Immigration Regulation Division if there were any reports forwarded to them regarding this information," said BI spokesperson Ma. Antonette Mangrobang. Mangrobang raised the possibility that the Filipinos had reached Sabah on speedboats. Sabah is less than an hour from Mindanao by speedboat.
If they had used a speedboat, Mangrobang said they might have departed from any part of the country's long coastline and not necessarily from an international seaport. If such was the case, "we would not be able to monitor because our borders in the southern backdoor are so porous. The only international port in the area is in Zamboanga," she said.
Don't create trouble
Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, for his part, urged the Filipinos involved in the standoff not to start trouble in the territory. "They should not create trouble. They should not give Malaysia the impression that they are rocking the boat in Sabah. The Malaysians have been our friends. In fact, they have been helping us resolve the problem of Muslim separatism in the south," he said. Rodriguez, president of the Christian Democratic Party, said Malaysia hosted the series of talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front that led to the recent signing in Malacañang of a historic framework agreement for peace in Mindanao.
He said the armed men who claim to be part of the royal army of the Sultanate of Sulu should resolve their problem peacefully with the authorities in Sabah. Rodriguez, one of the authors of the Philippine Baselines Law enacted in 2009, said Congress did not include Sabah in the definition of the country's territory in such law "due to the fact that Malaysia is occupying it."
"We have to accept the reality that Malaysia rules Sabah, though we have a dormant claim to the island. We would have elicited protest from Malaysia against our baselines law had we included Sabah in our territory. Besides, our law would not have complied with UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea)," he said. He said only the disputed Spratlys group of islets off Palawan and Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal near Zambales were treated as "regime of islands" that belongs to the Philippines. "The United Nations and the international community have accepted our baselines law," he added.
'Arrest them'
For the chairman of the House committee on national defense and security, Philippine authorities should apprehend the still unidentified Filipino armed men as soon as they return to the country. Muntinlupa City Rep. Rodolfo Biazon said that while the identities of the armed men or their affiliations were not yet clear, he said he was inclined to believe that they were militants fleeing government security forces in Mindanao.
"The government should be really, really interested in the identity, status and nature of these armed men, and if our authorities conclude that their existence constitute a threat, and their activities and weapons illegal, then our security forces should take the appropriate action against them," Biazon told The STAR. – With Paolo Romero, Jess Diaz, Evelyn Macairan, Edith Regalado, Perseus Echeminada, Cecille Suerte Felipe Hat tip:  Lt Col Idris Hassan

Conditions of Chinese and Indians in Malaysia is more than a million times better than their countreparts in Myanmar

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 05:24 AM PST

But in Malaysia, no doubt the majority get the best status but there are NUMEROUS CHINESE, INDIAN, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu MPs, politicians on both side of political divide, many Political secretaries, Deputy Ministers and Ministers. …May I know how many Myanmar Muslim and Pure Burmese Chinese in those high places in Myanmar…LOOK…In today's Business news from official Bernama news…there is a list of 20 Top rich persons in Malaysia..majority are Chinese and Indians…Malays are a minority…Read here in my previous posting.

Malay PM and Ministers would join the Chinese, Indian, Hindu, Christian celebrations and festivals. They send the greeting messages, but in Myanmar totally different.

When I arrived here…?1987 Merdeka (Independence Parade) I was surprized to see a short Chinese man on the stage between the PM and King, talking (I even suspect he was showing off) to two VVIP alternately while the parade and saluting was going on. Later only I found out that he was Tan Sri Vincent Tan, a Chinese Businessman. And during every National day celebration, they prominently give priority to Malay+Chinese+Indian +++(Other Ethnic Minorities) Myanmar Muslim population is more than 10 million and is fare more in number than other ethnic minorities. But instead of giving proper representing in the political and administrative field to us, Ultra-nationalist Myanmars are jealously attacking the Muslims of Myanmar and Islam.

Semseng UMNO Pekan Terajang Siswa, Rentap Tudung Siswi, Bukti UMNO Bakal Berkubur

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 07:11 AM PST

Mahasiswi pula kena tarik tudung.

Pukul mahasiswa berkempen bukti kelemahan pentadbiran Najib

Najib perlu minta maaf & bertanggungjawab

[EDISI BINGAI] Di mana Anwar Berpidato, Di situ Umno Pacak Khemah Ceramah

Posted: 16 Feb 2013 04:32 AM PST

Student Mana Nak Lawan Tok Najib Kat Parlimen Pekan?

Posted: 15 Feb 2013 11:51 PM PST

Ish dek...toksahlah..buat per nak menghabiskan boraih..adek nak lawan ker atau sekadar syarat saja..jangan jadi badut buat kelakar..kalau nak lawan hantar betul2 calun yang ada kekuatan.
Nak lawan gergasi Goliath tapi anta budak berhingus yang boleh jentik jer...tonjol kat dahi dengan jari telunjuk pun dah menciput lari..nampak sangat PR penakut besar..

Saya nak cadangkan..biar blogger AK 47 @ Sakmongkol lawan DSN kat Pekan.
Tu dia..baru betul.

Dua2 buat Analytical Econs for their degrees..rasanya.

Betul Dato' Ariff Sabri pernah jadi Adun Pulau Manis selepas PRU 11 dulu.

Bomoh mana dia pakai?

Apa nickname arwah bapak Dato'?
Dobi??
Sebab arwah Haji Abdul Aziz rajin menggosok dan mengkanji baju sekolah yang dipakai..alahai.

Lawan..lawan..lawan kat home base!
Dato' Ariff kan keturunan Tok Gajah/Mat Kilau/ Dato Bahaman/darah Bugis/Acheh/Siam/Kelantan/Trengganu/mamak Penang/Cina/India..bancuhan darah pendekar semua cukup..

Penahanan Xenophon Cemarkan Imej Negara & Langgar Protokol Antarabangsa

-TMI

Penahanan Nick Xenophon langgar protokol antarabangsa – Anwar

"Malaysia bukan dimiliki Umno. Ia kepunyaan rakyat Malaysia tanpa mengira fahaman politik," tegas Anwar.

"Saya mendapatinya luar biasa.

Top 20 Richest Malaysians 2013

Robert Kuok, Ananda Krishnan maintain top spots in rich list

February 16, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Robert Kuok, the Hong Kong-based Malaysian tycoon, is still the richest man in Malaysia with a wealth of RM46.1 billion, up 0.88 per cent from last year's RM45.7 billion, followed by businessman Ananda Krishnan and Public Bank's Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow.

Ananda, in second position since 2004, suffered the biggest wealth decline, falling by 23.5 per cent from last year, with his assets held via Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd worth RM32.90 billion as at the tabulation date of January 18, 2013.

Ananda is worth RM32.9 billion.

Teh, kept his place for the third year running with assets worth RM13.73 billion, business magazine Malaysian Business said in its February 16 issue. It said that the combined wealth of Malaysia's 40 richest individuals rose slightly this year despite the volatile and choppy capital markets.

They were collectively worth RM194.86 billion as at January 18, a slight increase of 0.86 per cent compared to RM193.2 billion a year ago.

When Malaysian Business first started counting the wealth of Malaysia's 40 richest individuals in 2002, their combined assets stood at RM41.7 billion and Kuok came out on top.

The magazine said that fourth on the list is Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, who jumped from sixth position last year, replacing Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng of IOI Group, who slid to sixth.

Quek's wealth, through his flagship Hong Leong Group and Guoco Group, is valued at RM11.09 billion this year.

Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary keeps his fifth position this year with a wealth level of RM10.60 billion, up from RM9.53 billion last year.

Lee slips from fourth position in 2012 to sixth with assets of RM10.56 billion.

Genting Group's chief, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, and his mother, Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua, maintain their seventh and eighth positions respectively. Lim's wealth rose 7.06 per cent to RM8.12 billion while Lee Kim Hua's increased 9.82 per cent to RM7.23 billion.

Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King, through his vehicle Rimbunan Hijau Sdn Bhd, is at ninth place this year with assets worth RM6.35 billion, a slight fall of 1.01 per cent from that of last year.

Rounding up the Top 10 list is Singapore-based property tycoon Ong Beng Seng, via Hotel Properties Ltd, with a wealth level of RM4.02 billion, a decline of 18.36 per cent from last year.

Malaysian Business said that one interesting fact was that since 2002, 81 tycoons have joined the 40 Richest Malaysians list and of that, 15 have managed to remain on the list continuously.

Overall, the steady increase of these tycoons' wealth can be attributed to share market performance and price inflation, given that their wealth is largely based on their shareholdings.

It is also reflective of the performance of their companies and Malaysia's positive economic growth over the past 12 years.

As for this year, there were 31 billionaires — one more than last year — and 23 of the 40 in the list saw their assets increasing from last year. Of these, 14 registered growth of more than 10 per cent.

There were three newcomers to the list. Datuk Desmond Lim of Pavilion REIT made his debut at number 15, with a wealth worth RM1.869 billion. The other two, Datuk Tan Heng Chew of Tan Chong Motors Holding and Tan Sri Kua Sian Kooi of KSK Group, returned at number 37 and 40 respectively.

The full list of the 40 tycoons and details of their wealth appear in the magazine. It also presents a list of the 10 richest tycoons on the ACE Market.

As in previous years, the wealth of the Top 40 was assessed based on the value of their stake in listed companies as at January 18. — Bernama

Immigration officials in Burma's restive Arakan state have been instructed by authorities to prevent all Muslims from travelling outside of their townships, according to local sources.

An immigration official in Sandoway township in southern Arakan state told DVB that authorities from the state government had called their department on the phone on Monday to pass on the order.

"I don't know much about it apart from that it [came by] phone instruction from the Arakan state government," said the official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "We just found out today when our supervisor spoke to senior officials on the phone."

A local resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity in Sandoway township said she was told by the chief district immigration official that they had received orders to prevent Muslims, including those with identification cards, from travelling.

"I was planning to go to Rangoon tomorrow but was unable to buy a plane ticket as there has been an order to not allow [Muslims]," said the local, who has an official identification card.

According to the resident, the order was sent out to checkpoints and officials. When she asked the district immigration chief whether the orders applied to everyone in the state, he allegedly replied: "No, only Muslims."

"The immigration office said they couldn't approve our travel as there is an order from the state [immigration authorities]. They said they can't allow even those with citizen ID cards without approval by state immigration."

The order came as UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights to Burma Tomas Ojea Quintana visited the state and a prominent Rohingya activist was arrested by police earlier today in Sittwe.

While stateless Rohingyas have long-since had their movements restricted by state authorities, Muslim residents in the western state with official papers have been allowed to travel more freely.

Meteorite explodes over Russia, more than 1,000 injured

Meteorite explodes over Russia, more than 1,000 injured By Andrey Kuzmin

CHELYABINSK, Russia (Reuters) – A meteorite streaked across the sky and exploded over central Russia on Friday, raining fireballs over a vast area and causing a shock wave that smashed windows, damaged buildings and injured 1,200 people.

People heading to work in Chelyabinsk heard what sounded like an explosion, saw a bright light and then felt the shock wave, according to a Reuters correspondent in the industrial city 1,500 km (950 miles) east of Moscow.

The fireball, travelling at a speed of 30 km (19 miles) per second according to Russian space agency Roscosmos, had blazed across the horizon, leaving a long white trail that could be seen as far as 200 km (125 miles) away.

Car alarms went off, thousands of windows shattered and mobile phone networks were disrupted. The Interior Ministry said the meteorite explosion, a very rare spectacle, also unleashed a sonic boom.

"I was driving to work, it was quite dark, but it suddenly became as bright as if it were day," said Viktor Prokofiev, 36, a resident of Yekaterinburg in the Urals Mountains.

"I felt like I was blinded by headlights."

The meteorite, which weighed about 10 tonnes and may have been made of iron, entered Earth's atmosphere and broke apart 30-50 km (19-31 miles) above ground, according to Russia's Academy of Sciences.

The energy released when it entered the Earth's atmosphere was equivalent to a few kilotonnes, the academy said, the power of a small atomic weapon exploding.

No deaths were reported but the Emergencies Ministry said 20,000 rescue and clean-up workers were sent to the region after President Vladimir Putin told Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov to ease the disruption and help the victims.

The Interior Ministry said about 1,200 people had been injured, at least 200 of them children, and most from shards of glass.

WINDOWS BLOWN OUT

The early-morning blast and ensuing shock wave blew out windows on Chelyabinsk's central Lenin Street, buckled some shop fronts, rattled apartment buildings in the city centre and blew out windows.

"I was standing at a bus stop, seeing off my girlfriend," said Andrei, a local resident who did not give his second name. "Then there was a flash and I saw a trail of smoke across the sky and felt a shock wave that smashed windows."

A wall and roof were badly damaged at the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant but a spokeswoman said no environmental threat resulted.

One piece of meteorite broke through the ice the Cherbakul Lake near Chelyabinsk, leaving a hole several metres (yards) wide.

The region has long been a hub for the Russian military and defence industry, and it is often the site where artillery shells are decommissioned.

A local Emergencies Ministry official said meteorite storms were extremely rare and Friday's incident may have been connected with an asteroid the size of an Olympic swimming pool that was due to pass Earth.

But an astronomer at Russia's Academy of Sciences, Sergei Barabanov, cast doubt on that report and the European Space Agency said its experts had confirmed there was no link.

The regional governor in Chelyabinsk said the meteorite shower had caused more than $30 million in damage, and the Emergencies Ministry said 300 buildings had been affected.

Despite warnings not to approach any unidentified objects, some enterprising locals were hoping to cash in.

"Selling meteorite that fell on Chelyabinsk!" one prospective seller, Vladimir, said on a popular Russian auction website. He attached a picture of a black piece of stone that on Friday afternoon was priced at 1,488 roubles ($49.46).

RARE EVENT

The Emergencies Ministry described Friday's events as a "meteorite shower in the form of fireballs" and said background radiation levels were normal. It urged residents not to panic.

The first footage was shot by car dashboard video cameras and soon went viral.

Russians also quickly made fun at the event on the Internet. A photo montage showed Putin riding the meteorite and Nationalist politician Vladimir Zhirinovksy said in jest it was really a new weapon being tested by the United States.

Experts drew comparisons with an incident in 1908, when a meteorite is thought to have devastated an area of more than 2,000 sq km (1,250 miles) in Siberia, breaking windows as far as 200 km (125 miles) from the point of impact.

Simon Goodwin, an astrophysics expert from Britain's University of Sheffield, said that roughly 1,000 to 10,000 tonnes of material rained down from space towards the earth every day, but most burned up in the atmosphere.

"While events this big are rare, an impact that could cause damage and death could happen every century or so. Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop impacts."

The meteorite struck just as an asteroid known as 2012 DA14, about 46 m in diameter, was due to pass closer to Earth – at a distance of 27,520 km (17,100 miles) – than any other known object of its size since scientists began routinely monitoring asteroids about 15 years ago.
