Hari Hijab Sedunia Membawa Seorang Gadis Inggeris Peluk Islam

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 11:08 AM PDT

Violent anti-Muslim riots in Myanmar prove that “militant Buddhist” isn’t an oxymoron

Violent anti-Muslim riots in Myanmar prove that "militant Buddhist" isn't an oxymoron

As Myanmar begins to rejoin the world, with a surge of Western investors and an ever-so-slightly freer press, the country has also been riven by horrific religious violence. Buddhist mobs have destroyed mosques and killed dozens of Muslims in rural parts of the country.

The idea may be incongruous for those whose conception of Buddhism is heavy on peace, love, and compassion.

"People are violent; it just so happens that some of those people are Buddhists," said Michael Jerryson, a professor of religious studies at Florida's Eckerd College and co-editor of the book  Buddhist Warfare. "Particularly in the West, Buddhists are usually seen as peaceful, and they're romanticized and idealized that way. But violence is found in all religious traditions, and Buddhism is no exception."

The violence in Myanmar, which resulted in charred bodies and mosques in the streets of Meikhtila on March 20, has been fanned by a group of militant extremist monks known as the 969 group—the name is a numerological reference to the Buddha, his teachings, and monks. The group's leader, U Wirathu, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2003 but was released last year by presidential pardon. He is now calling for a boycott of Muslim-owned businesses, with Buddhist-owned stores strongly encouraged to feature stickers with the group's logo.

"When the profit goes to the enemy's hand, our nationality, language and religion are all harmed,"  Wirathu said in a speech posted online. "They will take girls with this money. They will force them to convert religion. All children born to them will be a danger to the country. They will destroy the language as well as the religion."

Joshua Kurlantzick of the Council on Foreign Relations wrote that 969 has been "giving anti-Muslim speeches, holding anti-Muslim rallies, and distributing DVDs full of vitriol for at least a year." Another monk leading a protest last week, interviewed by Reuters, "said he wanted revenge against Muslims for the destruction by the Taliban of Buddhist statues in Bamiyan province in Afghanistan in 2001."

Myanmar, also called Burma, is predominantly Buddhist but about 5% of its population is Muslim. Strategically located between China, India, and Thailand, it is a developing market highly coveted by investors and multinationals.

In some ways the religious violence is an unintended consequence of democratization and loosened international sanctions. As the junta that has ruled the country for decades eases its grip, freeing Nobel Peace Prize winner Aun San Suu Kyi and allowing more interaction with the outside world, it has also unleashed simmering ethnic and religious tensions. Suu Kyi, thought to be a presidential contender in 2015, has not spoken publicly about the clashes.

Echoes of the country's situation can be found in Sri Lanka, where similar Buddhist-on-Muslim violence is occurring in the wake of the Sinhalese majority's victory in the country's brutal civil war. And observers have drawn another parallel that is even more troubling, labeling 969 a neo-Nazi group that is trying to make Myanmar ethnically and religiously pure.

"The Nazis engaged in various methods of dehumanizing the Jews in order for violence to take place. In many ways the 969 movement … the way they're racializing the Muslims, creating a dehumanization of them, is similar," Jerryson said. "People who commit violence like this don't see themselves as the aggressors. They see themselves as defenders from the encroachment of Islam."

What they don't tell you about elections by Maha Balakrishnan

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 06:40 AM PDT

What are you voting for in the coming general election? When you mark your ballot paper, are you voting for who you want as prime minister of Malaysia? Parliament has just been dissolved, but for months now, we have been inundated with billboards, television advertisements and snail-mail flyers of prime minister Najib Razak, touting his achievements over the last four years, his proposed policies for the future and why it is important to keep him on as prime minister to realise the dream of a united, prosperous 1Malaysia.

Sometimes, other faces may appear on these promotional materials next to him - usually, the BN candidate likely to be fielded in the 13th general elections in that particular constituency. But it is Najib's face, endorsement or words that are prominent. What do these promotional materials say to you? Do they say, "Vote for BN if you want Najib as your prime minister"? Do they say to you, "If you want our product - Najib and his 1Malaysia - then the price is your vote for BN"?

The promotional campaign that BN has been running these last few months tries to focus the eye of the electorate on who it is they wish to see as prime minister of Malaysia. The campaign tries to enforce a simple yet dominant connection in your mind: Najib = BN. So vote for the BN candidate running in your constituency if you want to keep Najib as prime minister. But this simple message is grossly misleading. It gives a false impression about what it is we actually vote for when we step into the polling booth. When your hand is poised to mark an 'X' on the ballot paper on polling day, you will not be voting for who will become prime minister.

You will be voting for who you want as your representative in the Dewan Rakyat (your 'MP'), and some of you will also be voting for a lawmaker to sit in your state assembly. It is our MPs, once elected, who get to decide who is to be prime minister. Under our federal constitution, the king appoints the prime minister, but the appointee must command the confidence of the majority of the MPs of the Dewan Rakyat. So, making sure that the majority of the MPs come from one particular political coalition only ensures that the prime minister will be from that coalition. It does not ensure who among the MPs of that coalition will be prime minister. That depends on who it is the majority of the MPs wishes to be prime minister.

And during their elected term, these MPs can change their minds and place their confidence in someone else to be prime minister. Is it a certainty that if BN wins a majority of parliamentary seats in the 13th general election, its MPs will keep Najib as prime minister? No, it is not. The ruling party's words and actions tell us that there is no guarantee that Najib will continue to be prime minister if BN wins the next general elections.

Their words and actions suggest that Najib can only be guaranteed the "confidence" of the ruling party if he wins a stronger parliamentary majority and regains its lost two-thirds majority. Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself has reportedly told AFP that Najib could face a ruling-party leadership putsch if he doesn't improve on BN's results in the 2008 general elections and that if Najib did not perform, there will be "some necessity to switch horses". Mahathir tempered his words a few days later by stating that what he had said was "only theoretical".

Yet Mahathir's 'theory' was not met with a collective public rejection by Najib's colleagues in BN or a public pledge of allegiance to him whatever the margin of his victory at the polls. Tied to this, the ominous lesson from our recent history, involving Najib's predecessor, no less. In the 2008 general elections, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was the incumbent prime minister, and plugged by BN to continue as prime minister if it won. But BN lost its two-thirds parliamentary majority and subsequently, the country lost Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as prime minister.

No doubt, those who voted for the BN candidates in those elections did so anticipating and perhaps seeking Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's continuation as prime minister for another term. What they got instead about a year later was someone else as prime minister, someone who did not get a mandate at the polls. Ask yourselves, what are the chances that BN will get a two-thirds parliamentary majority in the 13th general elections? Are significantly more voters likely to vote for BN candidates in the coming elections than in the last one?

Look to the independent voter surveys and election analyses - do any of them point to a high degree of certainty that BN will capture a two-thirds majority? Because that is what needs to happen for Najib to be guaranteed his position. Where does that leave you? You may be one of the many Malaysians with deep misgivings over BN or its component parties, their policies or the direction they have taken the country in the last 55 years. But at the same time, you may feel that the country is on the right track under Najib's stewardship and you may be willing to give him five more years at the helm, so long as he leads and controls the policies of the party in power.

On the strength of this, you may be ready to cast your vote in favour of whichever BN MP is running in your constituency, in the belief that a vote for that BN MP is a vote to keep Najib as prime minister. But your vote may not buy you what you seek. Between your vote and what you seek are 13.1 million registered voters and the internal power play of a political coalition whose policies and conduct you do not agree with. So when deciding who to vote, look to the party not its titular leader, because the party can change its leadership without checking with you first.

Vote based on the party's policies, track record and conduct, not only on those of its current leader. Before using the currency of your vote, weigh the costs and risks of what it is you are purchasing. Ask yourself if you could live with the next level of leadership of the political party leading your country if your favoured candidate gets the boot. Ask yourself if you are willing to take the risk that the policies of the leader that you favour may expire along with his position in a few months' time. Don't allow the gloss and spin of the election campaign to be the basis of your vote.

As with the purchase of any advertised product, before casting your vote, find the fine print, conduct your own research and be certain of what it is you are buying. With the current BN campaign, you are not seeing the fine print. Not your fault; the fine print is invisible.

But let me summarise what it says:
  • Seller does not warrant that final product will be as advertised.
  • Seller reserves the right to replace product with a completely different or inferior product.
  • The final product provided is non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
And remember: if you are unhappy with the uncertainty of what is on offer, you are free to see what other products are on the market. Or, choose not to buy this time around. The decision is yours. But since your fate is tied to mine, I hope the decision is an informed and well thought out one. Malaysiakini

Taib Mahmud Perlekeh SPRM, Apakah Tiada Tindakan Terhadapnya?

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 08:27 AM PDT

"Biarkan mereka (SPRM) buat kerja.

Classic Joke: The Biology Exam

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 04:16 AM PDT

Subject: Biology Exam

Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term exam.

The last question was: Name seven advantages of Mother's Milk?

The question was worth 20 points. One student, in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages.

However, he wrote:

1) It is the perfect formula for the child.

2) It provides immunity against several diseases.

3) It is always the right temperature.

4) It is inexpensive.

5) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa.

6) It is always available as needed.

And then the student was stuck. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test, he wrote:

7) It comes in two attractive containers and it's high enough off the ground where the cat can't get it.

He got an A.

New Mandore on the block, an alliance of MIC, Hindraf and HRP rooting for UMNO

lie detectorSo the real Uthaya has emerged targetting PR seats and the blueprint issue was just sandiwara. The moment Waytha got back his passport, passed through immigration unhindered and long time Hindraf leader Jayanthas quit to join PKR,  I could smell something fishy. Hindraf has trampled underfoot the blood of all those who died in custody. Shame! Shame! Shame!

Uthaya forces three-way fights in Pakatan seats By Ahmad Fadli KC The Human Rights Party will force three-cornered fights in eight Pakatan Selangor seats that are largely strongholds of Pakatan senior leaders. The Hindraf offshoot today announced their intention to contest in three parliamentary seats (Kota Raja, Kelana Jaya, Kuala Selangor), five state seats (Seri Andalas, Seri Muda, Ijok, Bukit Melawati, Seri Setia).

The Hindraf offshoot today announced their intention to contest in three parliamentary seats (Kota Raja, Kelana Jaya, Kuala Selangor), five state seats (Seri Andalas, Seri Muda, Ijok, Bukit Melawati, Seri Setia). Their leader P Uthayakumar will be vying for both a state and parliamentary seat. "Our candidate for P111 Kota Raja and N49 Seri Andalas will be P Uthayakumar," said HRP's protem national treasurer A Sugumaran at a press conference today. HRP is one of the factions that resulted from a multiple split in the Hindu rights movement Hindraf after its milestone street protest in 2007.

Uthayakumar's brother Waythamoorthy heads another offshoot that has been attempting to court both Pakatan Rakyat and BN with its blueprint to solve the problems of the Indian community. Uthayakumar said he has chosen to run in Kota Raja because the constituency has roughly 29 percent Indian voters, whom he expects to support his movement. azlanHe expects the 44 percent Malay voters to be split between BN and Pakatan. He is counting on getting the full Indian vote and a part of the Chinese vote to secure him a safe win.

He added that BN is unlikely to have a strong presence due to the absence of Felda voters, Orang Asli and army postal voters that are the ruling party's "fixed deposit". Uthayakumar said their theme for the election will be 'Send the first Hindraf MP to Parliament'. He said having a Hindraf rep in the house will be able to solve the problems of poverty and statelessness afflicting the Indian community. "If I have power, I can do a lot more, but up to now all I can do is to highlight the issues," he said. HRP, an attempt to turn the Hindraf movement into a political force, has however been frustrated by the Registrar of Societies' rejection of their application.Malaysiakini

They have been bought over, one guy wants to fix the problems and poverty of Indians, if that ain't a joke, that is why Samy Vellu says he is a winnable candidate. Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) has now challenged DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, to a debate, provoked by what it alleges as the party's plagiarism of the movement's five-year blueprint document. HRP N ganesanIts national adviser, N Ganesan (right) said after studying the contents of the DAP Gelang Patah Declaration for the Indian community, it was obvious the plan was plagiarised from their blueprint.

"After having been through the effort to draw up the blueprint ourselves, we cannot understand how a serious document in this category can be developed otherwise within 24 hours.

" Since, a large part of the Gelang Patah document really comes from the Hindraf blueprint, we cannot understand why in the first place DAP does not want to endorse our blueprint itself or negotiate on it," he said

Ganesan added that this questions the DAP's sincerity in coming out with the document. "In our opinion all of this reeks of political opportunism and another impending grand deception for the Indian poor. Malaysiakini

As long as UMNO rules there will not be justice for Teoh Beng Hock, Ahmad Sarbaini, Aminurasyid, V.Kugan and others, a vote for MCA, MIC or Gerakan is a vote for UMNO

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 03:52 AM PDT

We are here to remember Teoh Beng Hock, cruel victim of injustice and misgovernance, and to reaffirm our commitment to continue to do all we can to ensure that we will not cease until justice is done to Beng Hock and his family. The death of Teoh Beng Hock at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters at Shah Alam on July 16, 2009, together with cases of Ahmad Sarbaini, Aminurasyid and V. Kugan will be among the priority cases of "transitional justice" in a new Pakatan Rakyat government in Putrajaya after the 13th General Election to address human rights violations and rebuild social trust in a democratic system of governance.

What is "transitional justice"?

Let me quote from the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ): Transitional justice refers to the set of judicial and non-judicial measures that have been implemented by different countries in order to redress the legacies of massive human rights abuses. These measures include criminal prosecutions, truth commissions, reparations programs and various kinds of institutional reforms. Transitional justice is not a 'special' kind of justice, but an approach to achieving justice in times of transition from conflict and/or state repression. By trying to achieve accountability and redressing victims, transitional justice provides recognition of the rights of victims, promotes civic trust and strengthens the democratic rule of law.

In the aftermath of massive human rights abuses, victims have well established rights to see the perpetrators punished, to know the truth, and to receive reparations. Because systemic human rights violations affect not just the direct victims, but society as a whole, in addition to satisfying these obligations, states have duties to guarantee that the violations will not recur, and therefore, a special duty to reform institutions that were either involved in or incapable of preventing the abuses.

A history of unaddressed massive abuses is likely to be socially divisive, to generate mistrust between groups and in the institutions of the State, and to hamper or slow down the achievement of security and development goals. It raises questions about the commitment to the rule of law and, ultimately, can lead to cyclical recurrence of violence in various forms. As it is seen in most countries where massive human rights violations take place, the claims of justice refuse to 'go away.' In recent decades, transitional justice has gained an important foundation in international law and increasingly, all states are expected to enshrine and uphold four fundamental obligations of vital importance in the area of human rights in the fight against impunity and respect for victims' rights. These are:
• To take reasonable steps to prevent human rights violations;
• To conduct a serious investigation of violations when they occur;
• To impose suitable sanctions on those responsible for the violations;
• To ensure reparation for the victims of the violation.
In the tragic case of Teoh Beng Hock, the Malaysian government has failed to live up to all these four fundamental obligations – powerful reasons why transitional justice has to be invoked when there is a change of government in Putrajaya in the 13GE. The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak broke his solemn undertaking to Teoh Beng Hock's family on July 28, 2009 that "no stone would be left unturned" to find the causes and circumstances of TBH's death. It is clear that the Najib administration is not serious in wanting to bring Teoh's killers to justice.

Two weeks ago, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamad said the MACC would decide on the form of disciplinary action against three MACC officers named by the TBH Royal Commission of Inquiry of having "driven…Teoh…to commit suicide…by their aggressive, relentless, oppressive and unscrupulous interrogation" – when the three should be charged in court for a variety of criminal offences including perjury at the RCI and the TBH inquest as well as the re-opening of high-powered investigation into Teoh's killers as the RCI has found that the initial police investigations had been undermined by the conspiracy of "blue wall of silence" of MACC officers to thwart police investigations from establishing the truth and to pervert the course of justice.

The prioritisation of the case of Teoh Beng Hock for transitional justice will serve eight broad objectives – establishing the truth, providing victims a public platform, holding perpetrators accountable, strengthening the rule of law, providing victims with compensation, effectuating institutional reform, promoting reconciliation, and promoting public deliberation.

All cases of victims of gross violation of human rights and the culture of impunity, whether the mysterious deaths of Teoh Beng Hock, Ahmad Sarbaini, Aminurashid, V. Kugan, will be proper cases for transitional justice if Pakatan Rakyat forms the new government in Putrajaya in the 13GE.

What Are The Lessons Learned from Sabah Invasion?

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 03:50 AM PDT

Mar 08 2013
Malaysian superior and mighty security forces has flushed out the Sulu Sultanate armed invaders – BRAVO to our brave and courageous boys. It was reported 52 of the intruders, together with their general were killed. Although there're still leftover from the 100 – 500 who came and try to invade Sabah, Malaysian military should have sufficient firepower to neutralize them, once and for all. The best news – none of our security forces personnel was injured since the "Operation Daulat" started with an airstrike by jet fighters of the Royal Malaysian Air Forces. For once, it gets you thinking – what were these intruders thinking – that they could defeat 100,000 Malaysian military forces with their 100 – 500 Rambos?

Sabah Invasion - Air Force Sukhoi Su-30MKM

However, there were confusions and doubts as to the effectiveness of the airstrike as the "mopping up" operations couldn't find any bodies, according to Agence France Presse. On the other hand, spokesman for sultan Jamalul Kiram III claimed the bomb exploded as far as 1 km away from his men's location. It would be a magnificent scenario, with intruders watching the fireworks while devouring their barbeque chicken wing 1km away. They even claimed that the airstrike had actually hit Malaysian own soldiers who moved in to the camp left by the intruders.

While every Malaysian is celebrating the victory, the self-proclaimed sultan Jamalul Kiram III is now proposing an exchange of hostages. It seems conflicting reports are making everyone frustrated. Malaysian authorities should be transparent as to the claims made by the intruders. Like it or not, this Sabah invasion issue will not disappear so soon. Nevertheless, what can we learn from this crisis and the weaknesses exposed? The country has lost 8 lives and most importantly the permanent lost-love which is irreplaceable, even with promotions and millions of dollars in assistance funds.

[ 1 ] Chain of Command & Crisis Management

The most sparkling question - can the 8 fallen heroes be avoided, or at least minimized? Based on the ultimate airstrike and ground attack decision which saw no casualties from Malaysian securities forces so far, the answer is obvious. The 8 families could still enjoy their father and husband's loves, if a clear chain of command and a competent leader was in order in the first place. You do not negotiate with terrorists, let alone sending KFC and Tropicana orange juices to them (*grin*), to the tune of 2 weeks before recognize they're dangerous. If Cuba were to do the same to Florida, US military would have finished them within hours, the most – mission accomplished.

Sabah Invasion - Commandos Sent to be Slaughtered

If there's one thing that PM Najib should do after this crisis, it is to transfer Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, his cousin, to probably Ministry of Youth and Sports. This man's incompetence is beyond anyone's imaginations. In fact, there's no difference if you put Hishammuddin or Ng Yen Yen in charge of the Sabah invasion crisis management. Both would screw up big time since they tend to use their mouth instead of brains to do the thinking. Regardless of their religion, a terrorist is still a terrorist and you do not negotiate when your sovereignty has been breached. You do not call for a time-out to negotiate for 2-weeks when you're being raped, do you (*tongue-in-cheek*)?

To make things worse, the chain of command was not visible at all. People do not know if the Home Minister or the IGP (Inspector General of Police) Ismail Omar was in charge initially. Their statements contradicted each other so much so the terrorists were having lots of fun and time exploring their newly invaded land as if they were tourists. Thereafter you've Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi and Armed Forces chief Gen Zulkifeli joining the party, and yet there was no clear sign of who was actually in charge of the operation. Once, IGP claimed the airstrike killed 12 Filipino gunmen but later the Armed Forces chief clarified that the 9 bodies of Sulu militants discovered were of those killed in last Friday's shootout, and not by the air strikes.

Sabah Invasion - Who in Charge

Maybe Malaysia has been enjoying too long a peaceful period that the distance instance of war was not considered into the national security SOP. A clear chain of command should be drafted (if there's none) for such crisis, and if there's already one, why wasn't it followed? If their intention was to be front-paged in newspaper as if they're war hero, politicians should be thrown out from the command centre's windows. Let the real man do the job.

[ 2 ] Military and Defence Logistic

The Defence Ministry got RM15.2 billion and RM13.7 billion in their 2013 and 2012 annual budget respectively. While the country has a total of 44 fighter aircraft ranging from Sukhoi Su-30, F/A-18 Hornet, MiG-29, Tiger and Hawk, there seems to be a serious lack of military transport aircraft. The country has 16 units of Lockheed C-130 Hercules with capacity of 92 troops each. Considering you need to transport military hardware into the warzone, there's hardly any decent transportation means to deliver soldiers to the battleline. This was the reason why the request for AirAsia Berhad's (KLSE: AIRASIA, stock-code 5099) commercial flights to transport more army into Sabah warzone.

Sabah Invasion - C-130 Hercules

Perhaps PM Najib failed his geography or he didn't know that Peninsula Malaysia and the East Malaysia is separated by South China Sea. If the country can afford a US$75 million Boeing 737-700 for his VIP usage, surely a decent number of military transport aircraft should be in the inventory to transport personnels between Peninsula Malaysia and the East Malaysia, no? As former defence minister, PM Najib should know the importance of such basic necessity. Wouldn't that be more important than 2 units of Scorpene submarines purchased at the cost of RM3.4 billion? Heck, the money spent on submarines alone can be used to purchase 10 units of Boeing 737-700 with lots of loose change left.

Sabah Invasion - PM Boeing 737-700
Sabah Invasion - Boeing 737-700

Sure, you may argue that even US military utilizes commercial flights to transport their army. But in the case of US, they only activate such plan during a major operation involving hundreds of thousands of soldiers and tons of hardware equipments. They used it when they need transportation far away, such as in the Middle East. Do you think the US army would be made to check-in at commercial airports before being transported if their own country is invaded? US would be reduced to the size of Singapore if they need 2-weeks to transport army when attacked by Cuba (*grin*).

[ 3 ] Security Loopholes in East Malaysia

Admit it – Sabah and Sarawak are sitting ducks waiting to be invaded anytime by anyone. During the Sabah invasion crisis, up to 7 battalions (about 7,000 soldiers) from Peninsula Malaysia were sent to Sabah. Does that means Sabah alone cannot defend itself from 200 terrorists, since the state does not even have 7,000 soldiers, out of the country's 100,000 strong army? If Sabah has the numbers, why wasn't it used instead? Even if Sabah doesn't have 7,000 soldiers, couldn't some be sent from Sarawak instead? AirAsia operates between Sabah and Sarawak right?

Sabah Invasion - Map Lahat DatuSabah Invasion - Malaysian Army 2

While Sabah has a long coastline to defend, you do not have to be a genius to figure out where the pirates' favourite landing points are. Unless they come in using submarine or aircraft carrier, chances are they would be using the same routes as how they migrate illegally into Sabah and subsequently given their "ICs" by former premier Mahathir. If you think the military intelligence does not have this information, then you're insulting one of the best intelligence units in the world. Furthermore, it's not as if only Malaysia has coastline on the planet.

Sabah Invasion - Malaysian Army

Now that Sabah has been breached easily by a mere 200 terrorists, there's a need to restudy the existing national security scope and coverage. If the Sulu Sultanate managed to invade Sabah about a month ago, chances are they would be able to do it again in the future. They must be stopped at all cost, unless you want to grant more "ICs" to them in exchange for their votes.

[ 4 ] Stop Training Foreign Fighters (Terrorists)

The allegations about Malaysia being training camps for terrorists can be googled on the internet. And it's a known fact that Malaysia trained many of the MNLF (Moro National Liberation Front) commanders during their war against the Philippine government. Hadji Acmad Bayam, former chief propagandist of the MNLF, revealed to the Manila Bulletin that these MNLF forces may have at their disposal a huge arsenal, which they hid deep in Sabah's rugged terrain when they returned to the Philippines after their rigid training. He claimed among the firearms are Belgian-made G1 and FAL, which the late Libya leader
Colonel Gaddafi supplied through Malaysia.

Sabah Invasion - MNLF Terrorist

To add insult to injury, Bayam said he was confident the Malaysian authorities will not able to find the hidden MNLF firearms because they were kept very well by the MNLF commanders who stayed behind in Sabah. Now, before the Malaysian government rubbish such claims, Najib administration should confront his mentor Mahathir about this extremely dangerous allegation, unless he wants to keep a time-bomb behind his backyard. If this is true, Sulu Sultanate followers or any Filipino Malaysians can stage another havoc within Sabah itself, whenever they feel like doing so. The sight of these people who can appear to be an innocent citizen and yet can change to a terrorist with a blink of an eye is absolutely scary.

Sabah Invasion - UMNO Project IC
As of now, it's still too early to declare a complete victory over the crisis. The Sabah invasion has opened up a new chapter or wound that may not heal as fast as it started. The war is not over yet. But there're already 8 families who have lost their father's and husband's love forever, thanks to politicians' incompetence and arrogance. Via e-mail, author unknown.

PRU13: Pakatan Rakyat Perlu Ganti BN Kuasai Putrajaya

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 05:10 AM PDT

– Roketkini

Ladder in the Water

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 12:52 AM PDT

Recently, The Actors' Studio held a successful reading of the book 'Ladder in the Water' by Feroz Dawson at The Actors Studio @ Lot 10 which saw the likes of Dato' Faridah Merican (author's mother), Joe Hasham OAM, and Ida Nerina among the readers. This evening, the same event will be held in Penang at Gallery 2, penangpac, Straits Quay @ 8 p.m. The book is published by The Actors Studio Sdn Bhd (Malaysia).

According to Mr. Ooi Kee How, Theatre Manager of penangpac:

Feroz Dawson's stories feature Malaysians bonding in their carefree besotted youth, arriving at the cusp of adult responsibilities and maturity to be confronted with weightier matters like death, marriage, politics.

'Fireworks' is about complex responses to the loss of a friend in a road-accident; the good dying young may be fine in a rebel song lyric, but the reality of a coffin is a different thing altogether. The juvenile vandal expressing political dissidence in 'A Drop of Silver' grows into the unmoved protagonist in 'No One Has Claimed Responsibility' who listens to a political rant dictating spiritual purity and thinks of food. Enduring relationships show signs of strain and fissure in 'Ladder in the Water' while a new one is formalised in 'The Licence'.

A generation grows up together and then moves on, away, takes different paths, and if that generation is lucky there will be a writer like Feroz Dawson to record their emotional starts and stops and stutters, as in these stories.

Dr Tom is actually the principal of Enhance Education, Straits Quay. Dr Craig-Cameron has extensive leadership and management experience in the fields of international relations, international education and English language teaching. He has served as Director of the British Council in Malaysia and in Pakistan, and as Counsellor for Educational and Cultural Affairs in the British Embassy in China: in all those operations teaching English and managing British Examinations were major businesses.

He also was Education Attaché to the British Embassy in Washington DC, USA, and Science Programme Manager for the British Council in China and in Saudi Arabia. Within the British Council in the UK he was Director of UK Partnerships responsible for all levels and types of education from universities through colleges and language schools to primary schools. He chaired the Management Boards for the UK Educational Counselling Service and for Accreditation UK* - a special partnership with English Language schools throughout the UK to quality assure and accredit language schools and ensure high standards of English language teaching and professional ethics.

If you are free, please attend this reading. It will be a very meaningful evening. Come and discover why...See you there!
